In this edition, we want to highlight our school’s commitment to paving the way for our students' academic and professional futures Starting from Secondary Y4, we encourage our students to be inspired by their parents’s talks, teachers and peers, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and being proactive in their guidance For this reason, we believe that open communication is key to helping them explore their interests and talents
To facilitate this process, we organize a university fair each year at the school, allowing students to discover various academic options We also encourage them to visit different universities, giving them the opportunity to experience firsthand what lies ahead These experiences are essential for students to make informed decisions about their paths
Together, we continue to work towards helping each student build their path to professional goals and achieve the success they deserve.

Welcome to the 2024-2025 Science Week! A week where the school dives into the fascinating world of knowledge, exploration, and discovery
The central topic of this edition will be "Ethics in Science and Technology" a highly relevant topic in today’s world Scientific discoveries and technological innovations are transforming our society at a rapid pace, and with them arises the need to reflect on the ethical boundaries of research and its applications Fields like biotechnology and the management of natural resources such as water and energy will be the main focus
Throughout this week, science will have a special presence in our school. We’ll have a wide variety of activities: laboratory experiments, talks, contests, and much more. We want to invite all students, from the youngest to the oldest, to experience science in a fun, educational, and above all, thoughtful way.
To promote awareness of sustainability and the responsible use of resources, we have prepared proposals tailored to each level. The youngest will enjoy stories about caring for the environment and will conduct simple experiments on the responsible use of water and energy.
Primary school students will have the opportunity to participate in projects on renewable energy, recycling, and resource optimization, encouraging them to reflect on the ethical implications of our actions. In secondary school, we will host science olympiads and hold recycling workshops to raise ecological awareness. For Baccalaureate students, we’ll have Dr. Meritxell Serra, a former student of our school, who will explain the applications of biotechnology in cancer research.
We hope this Science Week inspires everyone to think, reflect, and above all, live science in an ethical and conscious way. Everything is set for you to enjoy science through the following activities!

On Friday, 25th October, EISB students proudly represented their school at the 16th BMUN (Barcelona Model United Nations) Conference held at St. Paul’s School. A group of 34 students from our IB, National Baccalaureate, and Secondary Education Year 4 programs joined peers from the American School of Barcelona and St Paul’s School for a day of intense debate in the school’s theater They tackled two critical issues affecting today’s society:
The spread of misinformation on social media and its impact on minors
The large-scale migration to Mediterranean coasts in Europe and the associated refugee management challenges
Following UN protocol, the delegates represented various countries, bringing diverse perspectives to the table By the end of the day, their goal was to reach a consensus on each issue and draft a final Resolution for both topics.
We are now looking forward to attending our next MUN Conference abroad in Winter 2025!

Learning is an exciting journey of discovery, made even more enriching through hands-on exploration When children engage their senses – touch, sight, smell, hearing, and taste – they connect with the world around them on a deeper level These multi-sensory experiences and the emotions they evoke lay the foundation for lasting learning and offer significant benefits for cognitive development.
Sight sparks their curiosity and helps them explore the world
Touch lets them experience the world directly They can use their hands, feet, and whole bodies to explore and understand the world around them.
Smell helps them investigate and formulate hypotheses and taste, their most natural sense, lets them explore and learn about the different properties of things they encounter.
Finally, hearing helps them understand the world of sounds and learn how their actions can affect things around them.
By using all their senses, they piece together a complete picture of the world around them. This hands-on learning helps them understand new ideas and encourages them to explore without the need for additional external stimuli. This kind of sensory experience sparks curiosity, encourages problemsolving, and helps children develop essential skills, coordination, and creativity
Hands-on learning isn't just about having fun – it's a powerful way to boost critical thinking skills and help children really absorb new information When they actively participate in the learning process, they're more likely to remember and understand what they've learned
So, next time you see a chance for your child to experiment and explore, grab it! These hands-on activities are packed with opportunities for learning and growth Let's encourage their curiosity and help them discover the world around them!

Since joining the school in 2013, Paola Pezzini has made a lasting impact on both her students and our academic programme. Starting as a Robotics teacher, she quickly expanded her role to include Physics and Chemistry in Secondary Y4, and Physics and Industrial Technology in Baccalaureate. Her passion for science and technology has inspired countless students. Paola fondly remembers her memories of her first experience as a tutor in the 20182019 academic year and is incredibly proud of the achievements of her former students, many of whom are now completing their university studies. ‘How exciting!’, she says
Not only does Ms Paola provide a solid grounding in science, but she also shares her passion for engineering, particularly her own specialism, Electrical Engineering In her classes, especially in Baccalaureate, she encourages students to explore the diverse world of engineering and its impact on our everchanging world This year, she is particularly excited about her STEM group, which has a perfect balance of boys and girls who are all enthusiastic about programming and technology Paola's goal is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of gender, feel empowered, motivated and capable of achieving their goals in the world of STEM
For Paola, teaching is about more than just academics She strives to guide her students in both their intellectual and personal development "I always look to the future, and I want my students to be able to do that too," she says Her approach involves providing consistent support, whether it's answering questions, encouraging passions, or addressing difficult topics She wants each student to discover and fulfil their potential, feeling supported on their journey of self-discovery and learning
Paola believes that families play a crucial role in supporting young people during these important decision-making stages She encourages parents to trust the process, offer guidance, and champion their children's academic passions As an educator, she understands how vital it is for students to feel supported and empowered to take ownership of their future and embrace the joy of learning
In her free time, Paola enjoys travelling, spending time in nature, and attending concerts. However, her true passion lies in supporting her students and helping them build a strong foundation for their future.

Ingredients:
1 loaf of bread (1 baguette)
2 cups (500 ml) milk
3 tbsp sugar (or honey if you prefer)
Vanilla powder (1 sachet)
3 medium eggs
Butter for frying
Sugar and cinnamon for sprinkling
Torrijas are a quick, sweet, and simple dish, similar to French toast and they are made by soaking slices of stale bread in sugared milk, often flavored with cinnamon or vanilla This treat is not only ideal as a dessert or a snack, but it is also a cheaper alternative and a clever way for those with limited resources to use up leftover bread; today, you can even buy bread specifically for making torrijas
Instructions:
Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until fully combined
Add
stir
Soak the Bread: Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture for a few minutes, making sure they absorb as much as possible.
Heat the Pan: Heat a skillet over a medium-high heat. Add the butter and melt it, swirling the pan to coat the base.
Cook the Torrijas: Place 2 slices of soaked bread in the skillet. Cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden and toasted.
Serve: Transfer the golden torrijas to a serving plate and dust generously with sugar and/or cinnamon. Enjoy! 7.
Tips:
Use Stale Bread: Let the bread go very stale before soaking so that it can absorb more liquid an achieve a creamy inside.
Slice Before Drying: Slice the bread before letting it dry overnight for easier handling.
Soak Thoroughly: Ensure the slices soak up as much milk as possible; check after about 20 minutes If the bread has absorbed all the milk, feel free to add more to ensure thorough soaking
