Expanding Horizons: The Power of Global Learning

At EISB, we believe learning goes way beyond the classroom! Travel, cultural exchanges, and language learning are key to helping students become open-minded and globally aware By experiencing different cultures, they become more curious, empathetic, and develop a deeper understanding of the world

Our multilingual programmes, including the Home Language Programme, allow us to celebrate diversity and help students communicate across borders Learning a language isn’t just about words it’s about connecting with others and embracing different perspectives On top of that, our students engage in study trips, exchanges, and international experiences that take them out of their comfort zones These opportunities teach them resilience, adaptability, and expand their view of the world

Our teachers play a big part in sparking curiosity and encouraging students to explore both inside and outside the classroom We’re here to help them build confidence and embrace the diverse world around them By opening their minds to these experiences, we prepare students not just for academic success but for meaningful relationships and lifelong learning

Let’s keep inspiring them to embrace diversity and make the most of every opportunity that comes their way!

Let’s celebrate Carnival 2025: A Celebration of Fun, Creativity and Sustainability!

From February 24th to 27th, our school came together to celebrate Carnival 2025. This year’s focus was on sustainability, creativity, and community spirit On that note, students were encouraged to design costumes using recycled or reused materials, raising environmental awareness while enjoying the festivities

Each day featured a fun and unique dress-up theme, from wearing House color sweatshirts to sports-themed attire, wacky hairstyles, and homemade costumes Primary students took on the extra challenge of creating outfits from recycled materials

The week concluded with an unforgettable after-school Carnival Party on February 27th, bringing together the whole school community The event was filled with excitement, featuring a lively fancy dress party, a solidarity makeup stand run by Secondary students to support Chazon Africa in Kenya, and a hot chocolate treat for all. The Carnival Parade was the highlight, with students, families and EISB staff showcasing their creative home-made costumes and filling the school with music, dance, and vibrant energy.

This year’s Carnival proved that fun and sustainability can go hand in hand, making it a memorable event A huge thank you to all the families and students who attended and made the celebration so special! We also want to extend our gratitude to the amazing EISB team, whose hard work and dedication created a week filled with surprises and made this wonderful event possible

We're already looking forward to next year's Carnival, where we'll continue to find creative ways to celebrate while being mindful of our environment

Let’s celebrate Embracing Diversity: International Home Language Day at EISB!

On February 21st, our school came alive with excitement as w celebrated International Home Language Day! It was a wonderful da filled with fun activities that not only showcased the beauty of language but also helped us connect with each other's cultures Students from a year groups came together to make this day extra special

In Infant School, our youngest students got creative by making a one minute video at home, highlighting different aspects of their hom language and culture and shared them with the class It was a great wa for them to start learning about the importance of their own language an how it connects them to the world around them!

Primary students from Years 1 to 3 worked on vibrant posters featuring words in their mother language. These colorful creations decorated the hallways, making our school look like a beautiful patchwork of languages! Meanwhile, students in Years 4 to 6 took it a step further by writing texts and preparing presentations about sayings, proverbs, typical celebrations and delicious foods from their cultures. They shared their stories with pride, giving everyone a glimpse into their unique backgrounds

Secondary students got involved by creating an exciting, multicultural Kahoot quiz! They worked hard to prepare questions in multiple languages, and enjoyed a friendly, fast-paced game during W.I.N hour on the big day Two students volunteered as hosts, keeping the quiz energetic and fun as everyone learned about each other’s cultures

The International Homeroom also had an exciting role in this celebration A group of talented Primary and Secondary students participated in the XXI Edition of the Literary Contest in Mother Language, organized by Amics per la UNESCO They competed in categories like storytelling, poetry, drawing, and comics, alongside students from other schools in Catalonia

To top it all off, we created a special display in the reception lobby, with the theme “Home language is key…” , featuring characters from the different languages spoken by our students

It was truly an inspiring day, full of learning and celebration! Everyone came together to honor the languages that make our school community so rich and diverse We can’t wait for next year’s celebration!

Let’s celebrate EISB at the EYP Spain Regional Conference

Last weekend, from January 31st to February 2nd, some of our students in Secondary Year 4 participated in the European Youth Parliament (EYP) regional session held in Sant Cugat, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey

The EYP is a non-profit organization that empowers young people across Europe by providing them with a platform to discuss political and social issues Its mission is to equip youth with the skills they need for their future, promoting critical thinking and independent ideas With its widespread impact, EYP has become one of the largest platforms in Europe for political debate and cross-cultural exchange

The event, which brought together young minds aged 16 and 17, allowed participants to engage in thoughtful discussions about Europe’s current and future challenges

Our students had the opportunity to experience the EYP’s dynamic environment firsthand, participating in workshops, debates, and discussions that encouraged them to consider both the present and future of Europe, while learning how to effectively collaborate and debate with peers from diverse backgrounds.

This experience was more than just a weekend event – it was an opportunity for our students to step outside the classroom and engage with pressing global issues in a meaningful and practical way

Congratulations to all the students who participated – their involvement in such a prestigious event is something to be proud of!

Let’s celebrate EISB Students Shine at BOSMUN 2025 in Boston

From February 7th to February 9th 2025, a group of our Secondary and IB students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Boston Model United Nations Conference (BOSMUN 2025), a premier three-day high school-level simulation of the United Nations. Hosted by Boston University, BOSMUN welcomed over 2,000 student delegates from around the world to engage in debate, diplomacy, and global problem-solving.

We were honored to be among the few schools worldwide granted the privilege to participate in this prestigious conference, making this an extraordinary opportunity for our students to engage at an elite level of diplomatic dialogue and international relations

Accompanied by Mr. Alexis Eggens, MUN-Director and Global Politics teacher in the IB programme, our students immersed themselves in a dynamic environment where they developed critical skills in public speaking, negotiation, research, and teamwork Whether they were experienced participants or attending their first conference, BOSMUN provided a platform for each of them to enhance their leadership abilities, broaden their global perspectives, and form lasting friendships with like-minded peers.

The conference challenged students to represent different countries and viewpoints, tackle real-world issues, and find creative solutions to address pressing international problems. Our students not only honed their communication and analytical skills but also demonstrated their potential as informed and engaged global citizens

We would like to express our gratitude to the EISB Team members, who enabled this experience, and to our students for inspiring us with their hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm in representing EISB on an international stage

We look forward to seeing more of our students take on the challenge at future Model UN conferences and continue making a positive impact on the world!

Let’s celebrate

SKI WEEK Primary Year 3 and Year 4

From February 9th to 14th, the students of Primary 3 and Primary 4 had the chance to enjoy an unforgettable week at La Molina This year’s Ski Week offered the students a mix of winter sports, exciting challenges, and plenty of fun, all while fostering teamwork and friendship

The Primary 3 students had an action-packed week filled with thrilling activities like high-speed motor sledge ride, as well as tubbing and an exciting

obstacle course, which pushed them to work together, test their limits, and have fun while learning new skills

For Primary 4, the adventure continued with their own set of winter challenges In addition to sledge riding and tubbing, they took part in some lively snow games and even had the chance to solve mysteries in an Escape Room set up in the forest, which was a unique and thrilling experience that encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity

The week was made possible by the hard work and dedication of Mr Joan Carbonés and the rest of the EISB team, who ensured that the students had an unforgettable and safe experience Their leadership and support allowed the students to fully embrace the adventure and enjoy every moment to the fullest

We can’t wait for next year’s Ski Week adventure!

The EISB Bot Busters in the First Lego League 2025

Our Bot Busters team had a blast at the First Lego League in Girona on February 22nd! This is a worldwide competition that challenges young people to develop their creativity and scientific thinking through robotics.

THE COMPETITION

The First Lego League is divided in two main challenge areas: Robot design: the teams must build and programme a robot using Lego pieces to overcome a series of challenges on a game board.

Innovation project: participants are presented with a problem related to the year's theme and must develop an innovative solution.

This year’s theme focused on ocean conservation

OUR INNOVATION PROJECT

The challenge we decided to address was: ‘A marine biologist who studies the distribution of sharks uses tracking devices to determine their migration routes, but the results are not effective Can we help her?’

After intense brainstorming, we came up with an innovative solution: installing underwater cameras on the underwater cables that carry internet data This way, we could monitor sharks without using invasive tracking devices, obtaining valuable information about their movements more efficiently and without affecting their natural behaviour

FINAL REFLECTION

Although we didn't achieve the results we had hoped for, the First Lego League experience was a great opportunity to learn about teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving We are very proud of the effort and dedication we put into every step of the process, and we will definitely be back next year with more enthusiasm than ever!

Thank you to everyone who supported us in this adventure!

Job Shadowing in Athens: Ms Ruth’s Journey

At EISB, professional development is a priority, and I’m always encouraged to grow, learn, and bring fresh perspectives into the classroom This year, I was very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in teacher development through the Erasmus+ Programme

I spent a week at Verita International School in Athens, Greece This was a new teacher exchange for them, as they had never participated in Erasmus+ before and I am incredibly grateful to EISB for giving me this chance I was especially excited to visit Miss Chrysa’s new school in Greece

I was warmly welcomed by both the students and the teachers, and everyone was so friendly! I had a fantastic time participating in activities with the children and trying out new methodologies I spent most of my week in Years 1 and 2, as I was keen to see how they teach phonics and early literacy It was almost like returning to school myself! The Greek alphabet is very different from ours, and I was able to experience firsthand what it must be like to learn to read and write all over again. The children even taught me how to write my name in ancient Greek! In Art class, we also attempted to create Ancient sculptures. I was truly inspired by the dedicated team of staff and of course, I also tried the local cuisine prepared by their school chef

Thanks to EISB’s commitment to teacher development, I returned from this experience energized and inspired Programmes like Erasmus+ not only help to enhance teaching practices but also ensure that students benefit from educators who are continually evolving and striving for excellence

I really hope that this will be the start of a very positive school collaboration! A huge thank you to Verita International School for their warm hospitality and to EISB for making these valuable opportunities possible Together, we grow, learn, and inspire!

Learning Beyond Borders at EISB: Mr Víctor and Mr Manel Share Their Insights

VALUE AND IMPACT OF THESE EXPERIENCES

Study trips and exchanges aren’t just about traveling; they’re about growing, learning, and discovering new perspectives Before each trip, students dive into research to get to know their destination Once they arrive, the adventure begins with cultural visits, hands-on workshops, and fun activities designed to boost their independence, teamwork, and language skills. And when they return, they wrap it all up with a final reflection to solidify everything they’ve learned.

According to Mr Victor and Mr Manel, members of the EISB Team and Secondary Coordinators, these experiences are transformative for students They become more adaptable, more confident, and more aware of the world around them They develop essential skills like critical thinking, creativity, and responsibility skills that cannot be fully taught in a textbook Plus, they build friendships and create memories that will stay with them forever These experiences are invaluable in shaping them into global citizens who are ready to take on the world

THE ACADEMIC PROJECT TRIP: CONNECTING LEARNING TO REAL LIFE

The Academic Project is a key component of these trips, connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences Mr Víctor explains that this project allows students to bring together knowledge from different subjects through a meaningful and hands-on assignment The goal is to foster critical thinking, independence, and teamwork while enabling students to apply their learning in an authentic setting The project consists of three main stages: pre-trip research and planning, gathering information and experiences during the trip, and a final phase where students synthesize their findings and present them.

Secondary Year 2 students - Study Trip to Geneva 2024
Secondary Year 1 students - Study Trip to Lyon 2024

EISB Community Learning Beyond Borders at EISB: Mr Víctor and Mr Manel Share Their Insights

This approach transforms the trip into an active learning experience Students analyze, reflect, and create something new based on what they've seen and done The Academic Project is deeply connected to the real world, mixing different disciplines and encouraging students to use multiple languages It also helps them develop essential skills like communication, time management, and creativity, which are crucial for success in their future endeavors

THE ACADEMIC PROJECT IN SECONDARY YEAR 4

When students reach Secondary Year 4, they also take on an Academic Project, which is quite different from any project they've done before Mr Manel explains that, unlike previous projects where everyone works on the same theme, this time each student chooses a specific research topic from a preselected list related to their study trip to Berlin. They work in pairs (or sometimes groups of three) and present their research entirely in English.

This year, there's a new twist: instead of a traditional report, students will write a 2,500-word academic-style article. They'll choose a topic, develop a research question, and craft their article following proper academic writing guidelines. This prepares them for the more extensive research projects they'll encounter in high school and beyond, such as the National Baccalaureate Research Project or the IB Extended Essay

MAKING THE MOST OF THE EXPERIENCE

Mr Víctor and Mr Manel emphasise how impactful a supportive environment can be for students embarking on these educational experiences These trips are opportunities for personal growth, cultural enrichment, and creating lasting memories When students feel encouraged to embrace the experience with an open mind and enthusiasm, they are more likely to develop greater independence, resilience, and confidence.

Travelling with classmates strengthens friendships and fosters a sense of adventure With the right mindset and encouragement, students can make the most of these opportunities, returning with new perspectives, valuable skills, and unforgettable stories

Alumni: Cristina Grau & her entrepreneurial journey

At EISB, we take great pride in celebrating the achievements of our alumni, whose journeys continue to inspire and shape the future. This month, we are delighted to highlight Cristina Grau, a former student whose entrepreneurial spirit and innovative vision have led her to an exciting new venture Twintual, which represents her vision for the future

After years of dedication and innovation, Cristina has recently launched the pre-campaign for Twintual, a groundbreaking project with the potential to make a real impact As part of this exciting journey, Twintual will have a stand at 4YFN (4 Years From Now), the startup event of MWC 2025 the largest mobile technology conference in the world taking place in early March in Barcelona. If you’re attending, it’s a great opportunity to meet Cristina and discover Twintual in person

If you are curious to learn more about Twintual and Cristina’s vision, you can explore her website and introduction video, which was recorded at our school’s facilities You’ll find the links on the right-hand side of this page Additionally, Cristina’s crowdfunding campaign is now live, allowing her to take Twintual to the next level In case you are interested in supporting her initiative, you will also find the link to her crowdfunding page on the right-hand side, where you can register your contribution

Beyond her entrepreneurial journey, Cristina has also remained deeply connected to the EISB community Earlier this month, she graciously hosted a tour and talk at MIT for our secondary and baccalaureate students who traveled to Boston with Herr Alexis to participate in the BOSMUN Conference It is truly inspiring to see how our alumni not only pursue their own dreams but also take the time to mentor, guide, and give back to the next generation of EISB students

At EISB, we are committed to supporting innovation, creativity, and ambition, and Cristina’s journey is a great example of what can be achieved when talent, hard work, and vision come together. We could not be prouder of her success, and we stand behind her and all our alumni as they continue to make a difference in the world

Meet Ms. Heleen Leper: From Challenges to Growth

Since joining the EISB team back in September 2017, Heleen Leper has become an essential part of our school community Starting with first grade, her role has grown over the years, and now she works with students from grades 1 to 4 Her job is super varied she helps with everything from spotting learning difficulties to providing emotional support, resolving conflicts, and leading group activities. She’s also there for the kids outside of class, helping out in the cafeteria, keeping an eye on the playground, and getting involved in outdoor activities like camp.

Heleen’s job goes beyond just working with students She’s always in close contact with teachers and coordinators to make sure every child gets the support they need She’s also there for parents, whether it’s through consultations or helping new students settle in “Psychology is one of those fields where you always have to keep learning, ” Heleen says “And with the world changing, so are the needs of kids It’s great that we’re more aware of how important it is to understand their emotional and mental world ”

Outside of work, Heleen enjoys recharging with a few personal activities “I love biking it’s something that connects me back to my Belgian roots!” she laughs “And I make sure to find time for yoga too; it helps me relax and stay grounded ” These moments are a great way for her to balance out her busy work schedule

One of the things Heleen loves most about her job is the diversity she encounters “Every family and child is different, which makes it so interesting,” she explains Being part of an international school also means she gets to interact with people from all over the world “It’s amazing to see the kids grow and change over the years, and I really value the trust parents place in me I’m so lucky to work with such a great team of teachers and coordinators ”

When it comes to advice for parents, Heleen has some great tips “Childhood is a time to let kids enjoy being kids, ” she says “Life can be so busy and stressful, but sometimes it’s important to remember that ‘less is more’ for kids There’s a lot of pressure on parents, but at the end of the day, you are the experts when it comes to your own child Trust your instincts and do what feels right for your family ” Heleen’s advice is a reminder that, no matter how busy or chaotic life can get, it’s important to focus on what truly matters: supporting and nurturing our kids.
