Partnering with our clients each and every day allows us to achieve our practice’s mission to be “Our Client’s Trusted Advisor”. Ed Vance, FAIA | EV&A Architects

September 19, 2018 2018 AIA Nevada Distinguished Service Jury AIA Nevada 401 S. Fourth Street, Ste. 175 Las Vegas, NV 89101 RE: Nomination of EV&A Architects for AIA Nevada Architecture Firm of the Year Dear Chair and Members of the 2018 AIA Nevada Distinguished Service Awards Jury, I am pleased to nominate EV&A Architects for AIA Nevada’s 2018 Firm of the Year. This Las Vegas firm represents, with stature and skill, every attribute that we seek to advance in practice: excellence in design, unparalleled devotion to client and context, respect for our professional community, dedicated service to the Institute and an incredibly positive model for the value of architects and architecture in our communities. EV&A’s portfolio of commercial, hospitality and healthcare projects demonstrate the ability of modern design to respond to program and context. From the iconic design for the Dynasty Hotel and Casino on Flamingo Boulevard to the vernacular interpretation evident in the Magnolia Bluffs Casino, from the strikingly welcoming LL Bradford Ambulatory Surgery Center to the forward-looking VA Community Living Center, and in the incredible range of their work, EV&A demonstrates fluidity in design thinking and passion for beauty. Garnering thirty-eight project design awards to date, their impact on the skyline and streetscape of our state and beyond is without question. Equally impressive is EV&A’s ‘on the boards’ portfolio. Their expansion of the World Market Center, with its nearly six million square feet of showroom space, welcomes the international furniture industry with dynamic and vibrant architecture. EV&A’s donation of pro bono services to Opportunity Village, UNLV's Center for Autism, and St. Jude's Ranch brings this high caliber of professional service and expertise to organizations typically low on resources for design projects. Founder, Edward A. Vance, FAIA, exemplifies Institute service and leads EV&A’s AIA engagement on national and local levels. Ed is looking ahead as the 2019 Chancellor of the AIA’s College of Fellows—the first Chancellor from our State and second from our WMR region—as the culmination of decades of professional service beginning locally and extending nationally. His leadership was critical to AIA Nevada’s AIA 150 initiative, Envisioning Nevada's Future, resulting to alliances between AIA NV and the State legislature on strategies for economic diversification at a time when we needed it most. Ed also volunteers his time and firm resources as a force for bringing transparency and consistency to AIA award systems and leadership practices. EV&A’s principals and professionals are shaping touring venues for the upcoming A’19 Conference, and firm personnel support and advance the AIAS LV mentorship program and high school design competition while mentoring countless students and emerging professionals in practice and through community engagement. The Firm of the Year Award is one of the most significant awards AIA Nevada Chapter bestows—an honor reserved for firms with a sustained portfolio of distinguished architecture and persistent commitment to professional and community service. EV&A represents all these things and extends awareness of Nevada’s unparalleled professional talent and influence beyond our state’s borders. For all these reasons, I nominate EV&A as AIA Nevada’s 2018 Firm of the Year. Sincerely,

Jonathan Sparer, FAIA President, AIA Nevada Past President, AIA Las Vegas Nevada Silver Medal 2017 Co-Chair AIA Las Vegas A’19 Conference The American Institute of Architects AIA Nevada | AIA Las Vegas 401 South Fourth Street, Suite 175 Las Vegas, NV 89101 T (702) 895 0936

I am a peer of Ed Vance's and for over two decades as a colleague, competitor, and friend, I have witnessed the firm's transformational leadership, passionate services and limitless advocacy within and for the American Institute of Architects at the local, state, regional, and national level. I have been fortunate to serve with many talented architects with the Institute, and I can unequivocally state that EV&A Architects led by Mr. Edward A. Vance, FAIA is one of the finest firms for their approach to practice, service, and impacting the professional experience of students and emerging architects. The firm is a very successful practice in Las Vegas--no small feat in of itself--while simultaneously dedicating countless hours toward successfully serving and advancing the Institute. When Ed Vance was a national representative of our chapter and region, he put boundless energy to craft, advocate, and implement initiatives and special projects with the Institute that have more strongly unified and aligned individuals and components. His leadership has also placed architects and architecture more soundly at the forefront of policymakers and the public. When I served as one of Nevada's champions for the AIA 150 Celebration, Ed played a vital role as committee chair and in organizing our 24-hour Town Hall efforts. The results were so well received by our legislature that Nevada State Senator Steven Horsford reached out to AIA Nevada to help investigate solutions to diversify the Nevada economy. Ed stepped forward, offering to lead the AIA Nevada task force as Chair. Through his efforts, the book Envisioning Nevada's Future was published. This volume has helped state leaders craft a framework for future legislation that is based soundly in AIA values of sustainability and creating livable communities. This endeavor simply would not have been successful without Ed's tireless commitment, enthusiasm and public advocacy skills. Other examples the firm's significant contributions include creating and authoring websites, directories, newsletters, awards programs, committees and books that unify and expand membership and celebrate milestones for the Institute and its professionals. In addition, he has mentored countless students and emerging professionals through his lectures, presentations, YAF participation, IDP leadership, NCARB, advice, counsel and practice. My support of EV&A Architects is rooted in complete respect for its leadership, impact on our profession, the Institute, the quality of architecture in the State of Nevada and service to the community. I strongly encourage and support the selection of EV&A Architects to receive the 2018 AIA Nevada Architecture Firm of the Year award. Regards,

Letter of Recommendation – EV&A Architects

Dear Selection Jury: I am very pleased to provide this recommendation for EV&A Architects as Firm of the Year for the Nevada Chapter of AIA. I have known Ed Vance through AIA for over two decades. In fact, whenever I think of AIA, I think of Ed Vance and EV&A. I cannot think of anyone who has been more earnest and giving of his time for AIA matters than Ed. He and his firm have been deeply committed to the mission of our institution. Fentress Architects is currently teamed with EV&A on two projects and both have been terrific experiences. We have worked together in our office and in theirs. One visit to their studio reveals the creative and collaborative environment they have built and nurtured. They are smart, curious, and love talking about culture—they are just plain fun to work with! As a peer, I see the quality of design and the manner in which EV&A does its work as something all firms could learn from. The portfolio of EV&A is always sensitive to context. From the Lucky Dragon Hotel Resort in the heart of Las Vegas to the elegant World Market Center, their designs are exciting, dynamic, and focused on the experience of the user. I truly admire the work this firm has done as an advocate for the profession and our institute. In addition to their contributions on a national level, they have been instrumental in elevating the awareness of the architecture of the Western Mountain Region to the greater community. And as side note, I am confident their Principal Ed Vance will be an outstanding Chancellor for the College of Fellows next year. I know there are many notable firms in Nevada, but EV&A stands for everything that Firm of the Year represents: integrity, great depth and breadth of work, community, and the advancement of the profession of architecture. I heartily recommend them as the AIA Nevada’s Architecture Firm of the Year. Sincerely, Fentress Architects

EV&A is a leader in Nevada’s design industry, producing innovative designs for the future of corporate campuses focused on sustainability, technology, and amenities while completing corporate campuses for The Howard Hughes Corporation, Gardner Companies, and Aristocrat Technologies. They are creating innovative Expo and Convention space for the International Market Center expanding the World Market Center, Expo Center and Building D, contributing to the growth and economic development in the downtown area. And, EV&A are active champions for AIA at regional, state, and local levels. Ed Vance, FAIA is working to advance the College of Fellows for the State of Nevada and across the nation, members of the firm are serving on AIA'19 committees, and others provide ongoing efforts for the AIA and the High School Design Competition program. This firm makes me proud to be an architect. I can confidently say these statements could be made by numerous other architects in Nevada and throughout our Western Mountain Region. Sincerely,

Glenn H. Fellows, FAIA
