Existuje mnoho publikací o Jihlavě, kde se čtenáři v úvodních řádcích, odstavcích a stránkách dostane množství informací o důležitých historických událostech a datech, o okamžicích šťastných i nešťastných, o významných rodácích nebo osobnostech, které ve městě žily, o architektonických památkách jednotlivých období. I Jihlava je městem, které má ve svých dějinách celou řadu tak význačných událostí, tak výrazných osobností, že se dá bez nadsázky říci, že její význam přesáhl uzavřený okruh hradeb a svůj vliv uplatnila nejen v zemích českých a moravských, ale i daleko za hranicemi. Stavební památky se tu řadí k architektonickým skvostům, a v nich se odráží stopy dávné, ale i nedávné historie města. Celá řada kvalitních publikací o historii Jihlavy i o jejích památkách již byla mnohokrát sepsána. Záměrem této publikace je proto představit Jihlavu současnou – město, kde se přirozeně prolíná minulost se současností, kde památky a místa nejsou jen tichými prázdnými svědky minulosti, ale především aktéry živé přítomnosti. Jihlava je město krásné, ale není prázdné – přesně tak, jak to říká růžím Malý princ v půvabné knize Antoine de Saint Exupéryho – protože jen ta jedna růže byla ta jeho – stejně tak jen ta jedna Jihlava je ta naše. A právě tuto krásu a jedinečnost Jihlavy lze prožít na stránkách této publikace.

There are many publications about Jihlava where, in the opening lines, paragraphs and pages, the reader receives a number of important points of information about historical events and dates, the happy and unhappy moments of famous natives and personalities who have lived in the city, and about the architectural monuments of each period. Jihlava is a city which has had a number of such notable events and prominent personalities in its history,that it is no exaggeration to say its importance has spread beyond the confinement of the city walls and its influence has been felt not only in Czech and Moravian regions, but also far beyond their borders. Architectural monuments are among the city’s treasures and reflect traces of the past as well as the recent history of the city. A number of high-quality publications have already been written on the history of Jihlava and its monuments. Therefore the aim of this publication is to present the current Jihlava – a city where the past naturally blends with the present, where monuments and sites are not just empty silent witnesses of the past but are also an important part of the present face of the city. Jihlava is a beautiful city but it is not empty – exactly as The Little Prince says to the roses in the charming book by Antoine de Saint Exupéry – because, just like the one and only rose was his – the one and only Jihlava is ours. And it is precisely this beauty and uniqueness of Jihlava that can be experienced on the pages of this publication.

Es gibt zahlreiche Dokumentationen über Jihlava (Iglau) wo man in der Einführung und dem nachfolgenden Text viele Informationen über die wichtigsten historischen Ereignisse und Daten, über glückliche und verhängnisvolle Momente, bedeutende Töchter und Söhne der Stadt und deren architektonische Sehenswürdigkeiten einholen kann. Auch Iglau zählt zu den Städten, deren Geschichte durch zahlreiche Vorkommnisse und herausragende Persönlichkeiten geprägt ist, so dass man ohne Übertreibung sagen kann, dass Iglau in der Vergangenheit einen bedeutenden Einﬂuss auf das Geschehen in Böhmen, Mähren und sogar weit über die Grenzen hinaus ausübte. Die städtischen Baudenkmäler gehören zu architektonischen Juwelen und tragen Spuren der längst vergangenen und neueren Zeiten. Über die Geschichte Iglaus und seine Sehenswürdigkeiten wurden mehrere Veröffentlichungen herausgebracht. Diese Publikation möchte deshalb das gegenwärtige Iglau als eine Stadt darstellen, wo die Vergangenheit und Gegenwart ineinander ﬂießen und die Baudenkmäler und Stadtteile nicht nur stille und leere Zeitzeugen sind, sondern in der Gegenwart leben. Iglau ist eine schöne Stadt, die jedoch nicht leer ist, wie es der Kleine Prinz aus dem anmutigen Buch von Antoine de Saint Exupéry den Rosen sagt. Denn er hatte Beziehung nur zu einer Rose, genauso wie wir als Bewohner Iglaus Beziehung nur zu unserer Stadt haben. Die Schönheit und Einmaligkeit von Iglau kann auf den Seiten dieser Publikation vermittelt werden.
