BLAST from THE PAST Crochet is a process of creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn, thread or strands of other materials using a crochet hook. The name is derived from the French term crochet meaning small hook. The main difference between knitting and crochet is the completion of a stitch before proceeding to the next one, in knitting stitches are kept open.

In the year 1965 the crochet made a comeback. This is when the crochet dresses became a hit. The item of clothing was a crochet dress, the only thing that needed to be worried about was what would go under it. Pattie Boyd was one of the first that brought this dress back to life. You have to be brave to wear when the classic version was a white figure hugging mini dress with a generous supply of holes which were sometimes just a little too large and a little too close together. An idea that can be worn with skin-tone underwear or if the holes are small enough that you can get away with it underwear precisely the same colour as the crochet yarn.
It was during this time where the comeback of cut outs were in, letting the risquĂŠ appeal of the crochet dresses move fashion forward. It was more socially acceptable to wear a dress that revealed more skin. Therefore, it would only make sense for consumers to flock towards crochet dresses and thus the popularity came back with vigor.

The line express the title “BE BOLD” and this is something they both believe in. The confidence to feel good in what you wear is key, we believe in being yourself, let your clothes express the beauty of who you are. You wear your clothes, not the other way around. COLOR & EMOTION
We have created the simple concept of a personal ID. The personal ID does not represent citizens of a country, but they are rather the number codes that derive precisely from the year, month, day, hour and minute of our births, and take into account the longitude and latitude of the birth place, as well as the true solar time. There are a total of nine numbers. The numbers 0 and 5 are repetitive. These two numbers are our main elemental attributes. Through these nine numbers, we can balance the five elemental energies that we need. The same IDs are also attached to all products. Therefore, you can buy the products to match with your elemental requirements.

The officially name is the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit. This black-tie event is held every year on the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute the only department that has to find the means to fund itself. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night, since guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit. Each year the event also has honorary celebrity event day chairpersons. This year, the exhibit is “MANUS X MACHINA: Fashion in an age of technology”, the hosts are Anna Wintour (chairman of the gala), Johnathan Ive (Chief design officer of Apple), Taylor Swift, and Actor Idris Elba. The honorary chairs are the Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld; Miuccia Prada (CEO of Prada); and Nicolas Ghesquière (Louis Vuitton’s artistic director). Lagerfeld, however was not in attendance due to the Chanel Cruise set the day after the gala.
This year’s theme fused technology and fashion. With it, some of the most beautiful pieces were introduced, pieces that left you speechless in the best way.
Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief and a chair of these events since 1995, she oversees both the benefit committee and the guest list, with Vogue staffers helping assemble the list of invitees. This Gala is said to rival the Vanity Fair Oscar parties. These glamorous are where the fashion trends start, they are breathed into life by viewers all around the world and continued by the purchases they make.

Designer Zac Posen has worked with LED’s in the past and for this show this amazing dress was another one that dropped everyone’s jaws. What’s in a name? That which we call a Rose by any other name would be so sweet? The rose is the flower of the goddess Venus but also the blood of Adonis and of Christ. It is a symbol of transmutation - that of taking food from the earth and transmuting it into the beautiful fragrant rose. The rose garden is a symbol of Paradise. It is the place of the mystic marriage. In ancient Rome, roses were grown in the funerary gardens to symbolize resurrection. The thorns have represented suffering and sacrifice as well as the sins of the fall from Paradise.
In the practice of Feng shui roses are a remedy for imbalances situations. The color red can enhance and balance chi flow and the fragrance from such a beautiful flower will enhance your personal chi. Roses are beneficial when you plant an odd number of them in your garden. Remember, when planting these roses have them away from your front door. These are best placed along your walls for protection.

In the Body Source Code book, the 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches are characteristics used to calculate time periods in the Chinese calendar. The heavenly stems were created to represent days. The earthly branches were created to represent months. One symbol from each set creates a pair that characterizes our energy at our particular time of birth. These pairs constitute our Body Source Code, which reveals our personality. Knowing and utilizing our talents gives us direction. Everything you wear affects your life no matter how subtle it may be. The garments that you gravitate towards are chosen for a reason. They correlate to the five elemental energy levels that you produce and can either work to hinder or grow those energies. Every piece of clothing has a specific combination of energies that will work with your elemental energy. When you consider what elemental energy you produce, while also considering how every garment produces its own energy, you can affectively decide and introduce positive energies for your days ahead. Using the Color & Emotion App, you can de-code what energies your garments produce and how compatible they are for you.

CORE CONCEPTS
109TM.com
A special 9-digit ID number system is used to sort and categorize individual garments, and is derived from the concepts of Zeus Sensor and Body Source Code. The 9 digit system is broken down in the same manner as a person’s Destiny Number. Each digit is associated with one of the Five Elements and a Yin or Yang polarity. Like the Body Source Code, these elements are assigned to the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches of the four pillars of year, month, day and hour. The comparison between your Body Source Code and the 9 digit ID number of a garment allows you to understand the compatibility between the personal energies you produce versus what you choose to wear. When considering these 9 digit ID numbers, we take into account what makes up the garment. An in-depth analysis is done, from the source of the materials used to the country of manufacturing. The generated codes are true representations of the energy levels. Every garment has two specific deities that represent the base elemental structure. It takes multiple ideas strung together to form a concept. The same is true in fashion. An item of clothing is made up of multiple inspirational minds and factors, therefore when devising these ID numbers, a combination of two deities are used, each representing a specific element. The combination of these deities produces the basis for the 9 digit ID number of each garment. This coat’s energy is comprised of the combination of Zeus and Hestia. Its 9 digit ID number is:

Fabric code
To calculate this digit of the year stem we consider the element of the second god in the combination. Hestia = Yang Water = 1 Each type of fabric is associated with one of the 14 gods in Zeus Sensor, which are represented by the elements and their corresponding numbers. Wood = Zeus = Yin Earth = 0
Month: Heavenly Stem.
4
Month the garment was introduced. Month: Earthly Branch.
3
Yardage of materials used.
Using the 24 solar terms featured in the Zeus Sensor, we can pinpoint the elemental energies featured in the month the garment was released. September = Yin Metal = 4 The amount of fabric used (in yards) will directly affect the amount of energy in every garment. If there is more than 1 digit in the length, break down the number by adding together the individual digits (for example: 15 = 1+5 = 6). *3 yards - In this particular dress, the yardage used was 3 yards (single digit)
Day: Heavenly Stem.

FASHION HISTORY
EMERGENCE OF THE PRINTED TEE

Fashion & Living Summer 2016

HISTORY
This movement started with the Great Katharine E Hamnett, it was the mid 1980’s where her oversized t-shirts with large block letters made its way into the world of fashion. During this time, the printed tees were quite a splash in the fashion industry, since this was never attempted before to such a powerful degree. The difference this time was the political impact of these shirts.
“Good words are worth much, and cost little.” -George Herbert
In 1983, Hamnett created a silk T-shirt printed with big block letters which read: Choose Life. The move was essentially a stunt, but the shirt proved to be immensely popular. Hamnett continued designing variations on the slogan tee over the course of her career, (perhaps inadvertently) branding herself as fashion’s most political designer. Fast forward 20 years, and now these powerful stamped t-shirts are found in every line, from the basic fashion to high fashion. The impact of this designer has her work echoed past two decades. The look that was portrayed is seen as street wear when worn correctly, this laid back style is popular today as it was twenty years ago.
In an Interview with FashionSpot she was quoted these profound words about her ethical practices: It originated from the concept of ‘right livelihood,’ which is about earning your living without hurting any living thing, for the good of all living things. So it’s quite a tough call. And originally when I went into the clothing industry, I was deeply interested in Buddhism, but I didn’t think we were doing any harm. In the late 80s, we did some research to make sure… I think the challenge is, in fashion everybody wants to get rich and famous and it’s easy to get rich and famous by being a bad person. But the challenge is to achieve your goals — whatever they are — while staying a decent human being. That’s where it came from. Today, these messages still stand true, as the impact of the cotton industry continues to hurt our earth. The pollution, the labour and the cost of clothes left to the winds in landfills. She was the first to step towards a future where fashion and politics mix, where these graphic tee’s were more than just statement pieces on the runway they are here to convey a message one that everyone should be listening to.

One Planet, Five Elements
LUCKY COLOR AND LIVING STYLE
In this book, we convert the elemental energies of the universe into numbers and Colors, making it easier for us to manipulate them to bring about balance and harmony in our living and working environments. Identifying the activation of magnetic energy fields that interact at different times and in different locations is the simple theory of Feng Shui. We believe that different magnetic energy fields, which generate electricity continuously, surround our environment. They affect the development of our physical structure. The strength of the signals transmitted by these different elemental energies will vary, just like the strength of the wifi signal that we receive will also vary from place to place. This book enables us to determine the Body Source Code of a building, so that we can match its suitability with ours. It also uses the creation, complement, and trade-off relationship cycles of the Five Elements to interpret “Feng Shui.

Designs include a combination of both strapless and sheath wedding dresses design. The fabrics that are commonly used in making these summer wedding outfits are usually light and breathable to provide a snug fit and to maintain the bride’s fresh outlook. With the heat of the summer months you will tend to lean towards a more minimalist dress, simple, breathable, and last but not least why not show off some skin? After all it will be warm.
Here are some tips to keep you happy on your big day.
FUN IN THE SUN When looking for a dress keep in mind the power of the sun, you may want to consider whether you need a bolero dress that can keep your shoulders safe from the harsh UV rays of the sun. Standing at the altar under the sun is wonderful, minus the sunburn you may get later.

For our readers who do not know how amazing you are, please tell us what your profession is and what you do!

My personality, I’m very caring and hardworking and I love feeding my passion by continuing to upgrade with new skills and keeping up with the latest trends. I am very easy going but when I work I’m very focused and My dedication to my craft shows I love what I do. Beauty is my passion, I love what I do and I’m really grateful for the ability to help women look and feel great with confidence. I believe it is so important for women to look and feel great about themselves because when we look good and feel great that’s the greatest gratification I get from my clients. Therefore, we have the abilities to take care of our family and love ones. As a woman I believe we are greater than we think and there is nothing we cannot achieve when we truly love ourselves and what we do. I entered the beauty industry as a hairstylist because hair was the only thing I love to do since I was 8 years old. I remember making my own perm rod with two bamboo sticks and elastic band to perm my friend’s hair so getting into the hair industry was a natural process for me. I’m also a makeup artist, a certified trainer for Motives cosmetics, eyelash extensions artist, founder of Pretty Bloom custom bridal hair accessories, and permanent makeup artist specializing in eyebrows and sculpting micro blading by Tiffiny Luong. My mom always asks why I love learning so much. After 15 years in the beauty industry I have an answer for her. From all the training, learning and perfecting my skills and knowledge I discovered I love teaching and paying it forward.

As a woman of many talents, why didn’t you just chose one?
Wow, we are nearing the end. How do you keep motivated every day?
I love the beauty industry so much and I think because of my personality I love to take care of my clients and provide more services. All my services are one on one services; very exclusive and I dedicate my time to one client at a time. I rather take care of one client with 4 different services than 4 different clients with one service. This is the reason why I’m different from many other artist and why I have great relationship with all my clients/friends.
Just making people feel beautiful every day. The gratification I see on their face makes it not feel like a job and actually rewarding to make a difference in people’s lives.
Summer is here! What trends should our readers look out for? Hair? Makeup? Beach curls is really trendy right now because it’s simple and gives you an effortless glam look. Just take vertical section and start the curls a few inches away from your scalp and leave 1-2inches on ur ends straight. How do you keep your skin looking so healthy? It’s so beautiful, it glows!
What advice would you give to a teenage girl who feels she is not “beautiful”? Beauty is not simply defined by the physical but also the person you are inside. Everyone has something in them that makes them beautiful. You have to learn to love who you are and what you’ve been blessed with. Always remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As a strong woman of many talents and a beautiful personality, what would you like your legacy to be? I want my legacy to be someone who worked hard to achieve her dreams. An independent ever trending multitalented icon. Inspired by and cultured by the world.
Fresh look is always great for summer, I recommend custom blend mineral liquid foundation for flawless daily wear, clean thicker brows are trendy and more youthful, light shimmer bronzer, and light pink or peach lips color. For woman who face acne day to day, what advice would you give them? Acne prone clients I would recommend to modify their diet to meet proper nutrition guide lines eliminate acne trigger foods like dairy and sugar, Drink more water, and get more sleep.

THREE MUST TRY EXOTIC FRUIT TEXT BY ALISON FOO
Living in North America, fresh exotic fruits are not only difficult to find, but also intimidating to try. Here is an introduction to three, less commonly known, exotic fruits that I recommend you try. Be sure to keep your eyes open for them in your local Asian grocery stores.

MANGOSTEEN Purple mangosteen, also known as the “Queen of Fruits”, are my absolute favourite fruit. They are grown mainly in Southeast Asia. The best ones that I’ve ever had were from Malaysia. The white flesh on the inside of the fruit is soft, juicy, and refreshing. It has a light and sweet flavour that’s unlike anything else. It’s very difficult to describe the heavenly taste of mangosteen. I would say that it has subtle hints of grapes, plums, peaches, and lychee, but this description doesn’t do the fruit any justice.
HOW TO BUY:
HOW TO EAT:
Depending on where they’re grown, mangosteen are in season between April and October. Choose the ones that have a fresh and green-coloured stem. Also, the purple shell should be firm all over.
The purple outer shell is inedible. To open a mangosteen, squeeze the purple shell between the palms of your hands just until you hear a crack and you feel the shell give way. Then twist the two halves and pull the shell pieces apart. Be very careful not to stain your clothes, as the purple dye is almost impossible to wash out of fabric. In fact, many hotels in Southeast Asia ban their guests from bringing mangosteen into their rooms. Mangosteen have large, soft and inedible seeds within each lobe of the white flesh.

OROBLANCO (USA) & SWEETIE GRAPEFRUIT (ISRAEL) If you like grapefruit or pomelo, then you will love oroblanco (also known as Israel’s sweetie grapefruit). Pomelo is a very large citrus fruit that tastes like a sweeter and milder grapefruit. The oroblanco is a sweeter and juicier cross between pomelo and white grapefruit. Oroblanco fruits are also, for the most part, seedless.
HOW TO BUY:
HOW TO EAT:
Depending on where they’re grown, oroblanco are in season from September to March. When picking an oroblanco, the skin should be bright green in color and have a strong citrus smell. Also, the fruit should be heavy and somewhat soft when pressed.
To peel oroblanco (and pomelo) fruits, use a sharp knife to cut an X into the top of the fruit where the stem would have been. Make sure that you cut all the way through the thick rind. Peel the rind off in large pieces. Then use your hands to pull the fruit apart so that you have two halves with exposed flesh. Remove the juicy flesh from the bitter white pith and enjoy.

LANGSAT Langsat are small fruits that are mainly grown in Southeast Asia and India. They have a thin peel and translucent lobes of flesh. They are subtly sweet and sour with a flavour that resembles longans, pomelo, and grapes. The flesh is slightly firmer than that of grapes.
HOW TO BUY:
HOW TO EAT:
Depending on where they are grown, langsat are in season from April to February. When langsat are ripe, they smell fragrant and their peel is pale yellow (no green spots). At its sweetest, the skin will be light brown in color with some dark brown spots. However, if the brown skin has black spots, then the fruit is overly ripe. Also, the skin should not be overly wrinkled or loosened from the flesh.
Peel a langsat similarly to the way that you would peel a longan or lychee. Hold the langsat with the pointed end facing up and the rounded part facing down. Using both of your hands, pinch the pointed end of the fruit with your pointer fingers and thumbs, and then pull your hands apart to open the skin. Peel off the rest of the skin. Alternatively, you could use your nail to break the skin before using your fingers to peel it off. Take out the lobes of fruit and enjoy. Langsat have inedible seeds within the lobes of flesh.
