The kitchen table is the principal companionate space and functions as common ground of getting- together, conversation and pleasure. For us, it was a space for work, for chatting and heavy meals, and the space to get to know each other. Distancing it from the steady spatial structure of a kitchen, the original idea for the SOFTABLE was formed, in 2016. It was about a wearable fabric that could function as a table, as space that could be carried and connect the convives anywhere and anytime, with the bodies themselves acting as supporting pillars.
After the isolation of the quarantine due to the COVID19 pandemic, when meals became more lonesome, or more en famille, constantly in the closed spaces of homes, aside from the need for the outside, even
more intense was the need for the outside together. To experience public space with others, amongst others. The desire to reencounter the collective kitchen table and the sensation of sharing the common was visible. The SOFTABLE had to return.
