Breast Health Center Combines Technology and Soft Touch Connie Wahlin is 63 years old, and she doesn’t care who knows it. “I’m proud of every birthday,” she says. Connie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. She endured a mastectomy, four rounds of chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiation. Now Connie is cancer-free, and she volunteers at Evergreen’s Breast Health Center, where she helps women prepare for mammograms and teaches the importance of breast self-exams. Connie is an example of the breast center’s “high-touch” care – the reassuring, kindly and very personal attention that women Horizons promotes a healthy outlook beyond age 55. www.evergreenhospital.org Evergreen Horizons is a service of Evergreen Senior Health Services. receive here. Even more reassuring is the knowledge that Evergreen’s cancer cure rates are among the best in the country, and that the breast center’s technology is current and cuttingedge. Evergreen is the first comprehensive breast center in the Puget Sound region to offer 3-D mammography (tomosynthesis), a revolutionary breast imaging technology that takes multiple pictures from many angles. Evergreen also provides a softer and warmer mammography experience with the MammoPad, an

ergonomic cushion that leads to 50 percent less discomfort for most patients. “The introduction of 3-D mammography helps us stay at the forefront of important technological advances in breast health screening and diagnostic tools,” says Dr. Kara Carlson, medical director of the Evergreen Breast Health Center.
