Logan, Be Curious! A FIRST Birthday party By: CREATING AWESOMENESSITY!

I
n September, I had the pleasure of hosting a first birthday party for the most adorable little guy. His name is Logan and he didn’t have a good prognosis for the future when he got here, so it was truly a blessing to be able to celebrate this milestone. Mom tried to warn me that everyone falls in love with him when they meet him…I was absolutely no exception! When I spoke with mom, there were some elements that she wanted from some of the ideas I’d researched on Pinterest. She requested the “Man in the Yellow Hat” cup and plate settings that I’d found from another Curious George party. It fit perfectly with this (popular) theme and I was delighted when some of the kids arrived and recognized the place settings! In addition to the “hats” I added stuffed monkeys as centerpieces; I found them at a local Babies R Us. Since it was a kids’ party and we were in the park, I wanted to keep the elements as concise and organized as possible. The lunch containers doubled as functional decor… each one contained chips, Curious George fruit snacks, a themed sugar cookie, and a napkin; each container was tied with red and white twine which held individual eating utensils. For lunch, there was a simple menu which consisted of hot dogs and cole slaw and the items in the lunch boxes. The drink station had sodas, fruit juices, and water; the water bottles were personalized to match the party with labels which said “Logan is One!” and “Be Curious!” I also made up a scavenger hunt based upon a template that was shared from Tip Junkie. I customized it based on our park and it was a great way for the kids to have fun and reduce costs for activities.

The dessert table had a cake and cupcakes…everything in different flavors so that there was a little bit for everyone to enjoy. The confetti cake was made to match his birthday sign and was a yellow cake, with gumballs in the colors of the party; the cupcakes were chocolate and strawberry, both with cream cheese icing. When the kids asked for a piece, they ordered by the number of gumballs! At the end of the day, the kids had a blast playing and having the freedom to run and be outside. All of the adults had a great time socializing and celebrating the first year of Logan’s life. It all turned out to be pretty awesome!
DIY Elements: To make the bunting behind the cake, I used pieces of construction paper in the party’s color scheme and cut them into rectangles. I then folded them over apiece of red and white baker’s twine to make a bunting. For the customized sign, I found and edited a coloring book page; The PBS Kids website has a lot of free printables that are available for personal use. I colored it in with coloring pencils and a metallic sharpie pen. The name “Logan” was made with letters found at Michaels and painted to match the party. They were secured to a shelf that I found on clearance at a Pottery Barn Outlet Store. The lunch boxes were ordered from Nashville Wraps and decorated using strips of construction paper and 2” discs of Curious George graphics which were glued to the front of the box. It was then secured with the individual utensil tied with red and white baker’s twine. They included customized cookies, which doubled as a favor and dessert. The thank you favors were simple tags that were printed out and affixed to red and yellow card stocks. The favors were put into brown lunch bags from Dollar Tree, two holes were punched in the tags so they would lay flush against the bag, and they were tied closed with the red and white baker’s twine. The favor bags included coloring sheets and crayons. lanning a party is such fun! The reason I became interested in parties was, like most people, because of my kids. My son, Henry recently had his Christening and it was a perfectly special day spent with family and friends. The theme of the party was Up Up and Away with hot air balloons and airplanes. I worked with so many talented people to put Henry’s party together. Without them the day would not have been possible. I love all the details, from the cake to the menu to the party invitations. My whole style was to feel like that you were at an airport and that you were looking out a window and out into the air and seeing the hot air balloons in the sky. The color scheme was a light blue chevron with red highlights. The invites fit the theme perfectly and were the first thing I did. I love cute little invites as it sets the theme that carry’s through to the party. Next, I looked for an outfit for my little boy didn’t think a white christening gown was going to cut it. I ended up with an outfit that looked like a little suit that came with an aviator hat. They can be ordered from H&C Stylish Kids Party Packs. I then contacted Jennifer at the Prettiest Print Shop and began designing the beautiful printables for the party. Jennifer, a graphic designer, was wonderful through the entire process of designing the printables. Every little detail was discussed and my input was welcomed. It was awesome to see my ideas come to life. It is my belief that a cake is an important part of any party and it has to not only taste delicious but look awesome too. Unfortunately my cake decorating skills don’t match my dream for the cake that I wanted for this party. So I started to search for someone to make the cake, and what a talented lady I found! The lovely Amy from Amy Brassington Cakes in Chinchilla, Queensland made this wonderful cake for Henry’s party and it tasted as good as it looked. It was the talk of the event! The cupcakes were another hit of the party. These were the creation of Nerrisa Binding from Simply Cupalicious, another very talented lady from Chinchilla. Nerrissa also made the airplane cake pops and these were also a huge hit with the kids especially the big kids at the party and I have to say it was money well spent.

The styling was done by myself but I have to admit without all of these wonderful businesses on board, my party would not have been half as stylish. I purchased a vintage hot air balloon
for Henry’s room, as well as a model airplane. These are things that he will have in his room for a long time to come. The doors I picked up second hand and painted them white so that I could lean them up against the wall and stick material between them. I bought cloud material and hot air balloon decal wall stickers to stick on the material. The menu cards were placed on little easels so that the guests could see what they were having for lunch. The hot potato station was an awesome idea. The rest of the sweets and treats I had little food labels to inform guests what they were eating. I had a baggage claim area for gifts, with a sign to inform them that if they left more than one present they would incur an excess baggage fee. I also had a refueling station where drinks were served and a small candy buffet where guests could fill their own thank you bags with lolly pops and chocolates. We also had an arrival and departure board announcing the guest’s arrivals and where they were from. Gate signs with arrows to direct them to the closest gate for arrivals and departures. All of these printables from the Prettiest Print Shop. The hot air balloon lanterns I bought and took the original basket off and made tiny blue chevron bunting and glued them around the basket. I then tied the basket on to the hot air balloon. A huge thank you must go to Karri from Karri Shannon Photography who took the wonderful photos of Henry’s Christening and left us with wonderful memories of the day. I
was recently able to style a Breakfast SPArty for 4 lovely young ladies! We chose teal, black, white & silver colors for the party to add a touch of elegance to a younger child’s party. The backdrop was created with black and silver tissue paper accented with beautiful teal and black and white paper fans. The girls were able to eat a simple, but kid friendly, breakfast and drank YUMosas (look for the recipe on the Everyday Party Magazine webpage) before being pampered for the morning. After the girls finished at the breakfast bar they sat down and were treated to mini facials. When they finished getting their facials, each girl was asked to choose their favorite nail polish and were treated with a manicure. This party was such a special one to throw for the girls, they loved being pampered like a lady, but were still able to enjoy the innocence of childhood with their BFF’s.

ur Valentine’s Day party theme this year was inspired by the love that kids have for animals, as well as the “unconditional love” a pet provides its owner. My decision to incorporate “adoption” into the theme was something I did to promote the importance of animal adoption. My “go-to girl” for party printables is Lauren McKinsey. She always knows how to add the “CUTE” to a party. I was ecstatic to see some of the first images she sent me to peek at when she was creating the “Puppy Love” and “Purr-fect Love” collections for my party, because they were JUST what I had envisioned for this occasion. After that, I was on a mission to find stuffed animals that matched, for use in our adoption station. I had a lot of luck at my favorite place, Target, however, all of the animals needed to then be adorned with ribbons and bows, and even a glittered bell for the striped kitty.

My daughter insisted on wearing a top that coordinated with this theme for the party. Her tank top was such a simple DIY. We just used the online template on the Avery.com site, along with some of the images from the valentines collections, and then transferred the im-

age onto a white tank top. She loved that it matched the party details. Fondant cupcake toppers to match the Lauren McKinsey printables were a definite necessity for our party and I knew immediately that I wanted to have Arlene, from She Wears the Crown, make them because she does such amazing fondant (and cookie) work! When I picked up my toppers from her, I literally let out a squeal when I saw how adorable they’d turned out! When the children arrived at the party, they were so were excited to visit to the “Adoption Center” first and choose either a puppy or a kitty to “adopt” and give a new home. After they chose their new “forever friend” there were personalized adoption tags to attach to the pets. They then spent time at the the valentine station, playing “Tic Tac Meow”, enjoying some sweet treats, and posing for the camera with their pets, using photo booth props! It was a purr-fect Valentine’s Day party!

Sprinkle Some Love By: Let’s Get This Party Started!

prinkle Some Love was inspired by one of my party pal’s Pinterest page. I saw her Sprinkle Love board and quickly asked if I could use that as a starting board for a less traditional Valentine’s Day celebration. Upon receiving her blessing, I went to work. I order POUNDS of sprinkles online, and bought several sizes of mason jars to hold candy. I also found some vibrant cupcake toppers and wrappers at Target on clearnace. My boys love very few things, candy, cupcakes, their family, and sports are tops on the list, and as their mama, I am totally fine with that! With their eager approval, I set up their Valentine’s Day table with lots of candy, sprinkled sugar cookies, cupcakes, sprinkled marshamllows, and sprinkled chocolate dipped strawberries. I wanted to add a Sprinkle Some Love printable to a frame near the table, so I designed one! (Look for it on the Everyday Party Magazine Webpage as a free download.) I used a simple white crinkle fabric as the backdrop, and I placed the colorful candy on a white bookshelf my dad built years ago. The desserts were placed on white serving trays, and the boys ate off of white paper plates embellished with sprinkles. They LOVED the sprinkles on their plates and cups. This party was so much fun for all of us, and can easily be replicated on a budget! Styling, photography, marshmallows, and cookies by Let’s Get This Party Started! Valentine’s Day Bookmark DIY by DIY Modern Holiday Supplies needed: Cardstock, Embroidery Floss, Thin Sewing Needle, glue, thin ribbon, hole punch and scissors. 1. Cut 2 of each desired card stock 2” by 6”. 2. Using a pencil, lightly sketch your design on one of the pieces of card stock. 3. Punch small holes with your needle along your design--this will make it easier for the needle and thread to pass through the card stock and maintain your pattern. 4. Divide floss into pieces 2 threads thick (embroidery floss is generally 6 threads thick) and thread your needle. 5. Using a simple back stitch, follow your pattern until it is complete. 6. For the heart pattern, get 4-5 thread colors that will form an ombre pattern and separate them into pieces 2 threads thick. 7. Sketch a simple heart with a pencil and use the needle to poke one hole in the center of the heart and then multiple holes around the edge to make it easier to sew. 8. Starting with the lightest color, stitch long back stitches using the center hole as the start of all of your stitches. 9. Continue stitching a section of the heart with each color until you fill the entire heart. 10. Take the other pieces of card stock and glue them to the back of your bookmark so that the wrong side of your stitching is covered. This will help prevent damage to your stitches during use. 11. Punch a hole at the top of each bookmark. 12. Loop a length of the thin ribbon through the top and you are all done! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Ballet Princess Party By: Favors and More

hat little girl doesn’t dream of being a ballerina? We know it has always been a dream of our awesome little client Gianna. For Gianna’s 3rd birthday celebration, we styled a Princess Ballerina party for her and her friends with lots of tutus, tasteful sweets and of course lots of pink and gold! To make sure we covered the aspect of Princess and Ballerina, we incorporated hand-made tutus for all the princess’ and hand painted cardboard crowns in gold. Each ballerina had a personalized name tag on her tutu and the girls all changed into their ballerina outfits as soon as they arrived to this royal gathering. The venue was at Gianna’s home so we created a customized Candy & Dessert display as the main attraction. We ordered delicious sugar cookies in the shape of Ballet Slippers and Pink Princess Dresses and got gorgeous custom-made Ballet Slipper Cakepops. We made sure every guest took home a personalized box of sweets as the party favor. To feature this beautiful table display, we custom made a lovely table skirt and since the table was placed in front of a nice window area, we sewed a shimmery pink Satin Window panel to tie it all together. Lastly, we created a personalized Banner and matching Tulle Pom Poms to hang from the window as well as the ceiling. The entire project was so much fun to create by hand! We are excited to share details for some of our DIY projects for this special event: The jewelry box and The Gold Glitter Letter G. Believe it or not the jewelry box was a Garage Sale find that we spray painted in Ivory. To add a touch of royalty, we sprayed gold glitter paint to the top of the drawer. As a last minute purchase, we got a cute Vanity set at a dollar store and used Liquid Gold Leaf Paint to make it Gold and added some pearls for the finishing touches. As a gift to Gianna, we decided to add the letter G to the Display, which she could use to decorate her room. This wooden letter (with a wooden base) can be found at AC Moore, Michaels or other craft stores. We also used Liquid Gold Leafing to paint it gold, and then sprayed it with Krylon Glitter Spray. his little princess's third birthday consisted of pink, white and purple and candies galore! The themed birthday party designed by Jennifer Lynn Events, featured Doc McStuffins' figurines, a candy bar that highlighted Doc's favorite colors and gift baskets for the kids. Date Night with the Oscars!

I
wanted to style something different, something unique, something you wouldn’t see every day. I chose to do an Oscar theme. To make it more unique, I focused on a “date night” at home.
As a mom and wife myself, I know how hard it is for couples to enjoy a night out…so why not bring that night out home! I used my own family room for the set up. I arranged some red pillows on our sofa, complete with a tray that held our plates and napkins for all the goodies. I completed it with a custom designed ballot made by Gemini Celebrations to follow along with while watching the Oscars. What would the Oscars be without the Red Carpet!? I knew I wanted to include it in my setup, so I lined my floor with a red velvet fabric that ran from my sofa to the entertainment center where all the goodies were displayed. My entertainment included handmade rosettes made by Gemini Celebrations, OSCARS Marque Letters lit up with a Hollywood style lighting, the TV, which was draped with red curtains behind it for the stage feel, and many delicious goodies! The amazing, Gemini Celebrations, handmade the paper rosettes that I attached to the entertainment center for the main accent piece. I bought paper mache letters, a can of red spray paint (both letters and paint bought at JoAnn’s with coupons!), and a string of Christmas lights to make my featured DIY projects. The lights presented that little “extra touch”, and gave the perfect glow to the room! Look for the full DIY tutorial on Everyday Party Magazine’s web page soon! Not only did I want some yummy treats, but I wanted to feature a dessert drink. I kept it simple with a

mudslide recipe but dressed up the glasses with some gold sprinkles and disco dust and created The Hollywood Mudslide. You should ALWAYS have popcorn when watching a late night delight on tv! I bought gourmet chocolate peanut butter popcorn and lightly sprinkled some gold disco dust on top for a sparkle. I called it Film Lovers Popcorn. For my Nominee Crisps, I dipped Pringles chips in colored candy coating and then sprinkled with gold disco dust. And who can resist salty AND sweet? I had to go with dipped strawberries. I decorated them to look like tuxedos with bow ties and gold dresses with necklaces. I awarded them the name, Best Dressed Berry. To keep with the Red Carpet theme, I went with the Red Carpet Cupcakes that Everyday Party Magazine 49 Spring 2014
were red velvet cake made by the fabulous Sweet Bites by Karen. I then took some extra fabric I had left over from the carpet and made some fabric cupcake liners. Loved the look of the red velvet liner with the gold shimmering icing!The food labels were all designed and handmade by Gemini Celebrations, along with the paper rosettes and Oscar awards on the napkin rings. he Three B’s.....Books and Birthdays on a Budget! This is the perfect little gathering for a child who loves to read, like my daughter. The most absolute budget friendly little party that won’t break the bank. It cost less than $20. Yes..I said $20. The key to keeping it budget friendly was to take advantage of all things local, kid friendly and free in your area. The Book Mart which is a local bookstore and cafe that has been around since the 1970’s was the perfect location. They have a variety of kid friendly areas inside. We used their upstairs book area that is used to house all sorts of amazing used books and hold reading time. The area had seas of kid books that dated back to my child hood. Such a great find. We were able to find tables and chairs that were the perfect size for guests. As decor we used what else... all the amazing books that they carried..from old.. big, small..They gave the table lots of character. I was able to shop at a local $1 Store for party supplies such as cute party hats, blowers, miniature gumball machines and gumballs. The table cloth was actually polka dotted wrapping paper that I purchased there as well. I used the wrapping paper as inspiration when tying everything else together. The pink and turquiose polka dotted plates came from my own home. The flowers were gathered from a past party and used as book ends on the table..loved that idea! We also took advantage of the many games the book store had. They can be used as entertaining guests. We used them as platters to hold snacks such as mini cupcakes. Many libraries and book stores have bargin bins and discounted books. A great party idea is to hold a book buffet where instead of candy and lost trinkets, guests can pick out some of their favorite books to take home as favors in their goodie bags. Even though we love things that are grand, all parties and gatherings don’t have to be over the top and empty our pocketbook. A party that involves reading to kids can be both fun and rewarding! Since Dr.Seuss books are colorful, it’s easy to make it budget friendly by mixing colors and patterns that you might already have. There’s also tons of FREE Printables online but I only used 1 for this party to keep things simple. can’t think of any two more happy colors together than blue and yellow. Blueberry and lemon are two of my favorite tastes. Our menu for the meal is a Summer Berry & Walnut Salad with Poppy-seed dressing, blueberry muffins, lemon pound cake, blueberry yogurt & granola Parfait and fresh squeezed lemonade. When I was ready for the girls to come over to discuss our latest book, I went through my husband’s books and removed the jackets to discover two stacks of blue shaded books. On Pinterest I found Folded Book art and made a few book ornaments to hang from my canopy and I used one of my Garden Chandeliers ( made from Scalloped Garden Fencing). I love letters of all kind and found my “M” at Anthropology. I always like to have something for the gals to make and take home with them.

pray paint glass jars I hold a 2’ wood stake, place the jar on the end of stake and then I can paint without getting it all over me. Once jar is dry sand around letters with a fat nail file to remove the paint from just the letter edges. Use your wax to finish the jars with a matte look.

ut legal size paper into four columns. Cut blue card stock to fit the paper and use sand paper along the edge of a hard corner for that denim seam look. Punch two holes at the top of all paper and thread ribbons, lace or burlap to secure. Tie on pencil. Leave for each guest to write notes, contacts and thoughts about our book.

ire Birds— Found the idea by looking up wire birds on Pinterest. Supplies: Wire hanger / thin wire/ assorted buttons / needle nose pliers. Cut curve off hanger and straighten wire. Use bird shape on sheet to see where to bend wire. Cut off excess for legs and feet and make a tight curl to close wires together. Wrap thin wire around the body of the bird and thread buttons on wire. Continue back and forth adding assorted size buttons. Wrap wire ends around bird and use pliers to help with sharp edges. Fold bird feet and legs attach to bird body. t’s sheer fun celebrating when a child turns 1! The birthday boy, Jacob, and his party guests had a seusstastic time at this Dr. Seuss themed 1st birthday party. The bash was hosted by the birthday boy’s parents, with the planning and design assistance of Sensational Soirees. The toddler friendly party took place at a community party room in Hyattsville, Maryland, and featured a cute DIY play area in the center of the room that the kids loved. Some of the décor elements included the famous Cat in the Hat, chalkboard party signs featuring Seuss quotes and images, tissue poms and a fun color scheme of red, caribbean blue, white and yellow. The favor table included an array of mini Dr. Seuss books, bubbles and yummy Cat in the Hat marshmallow pops made by the birthday boy’s mom, who also made cake pops and cupcakes for dessert. There was a Dr. Seuss twist on the menu that included clever items such as “Green, Eggs and Ham”, which were green deviled eggs and ham sandwiches. The highlight of the party was a visit from the Cat in the Hat himself! No birthday party is complete without birthday cake, which was made by Walid Rahali and included a smash cake that the birthday boy loved dipping his fingers in. ne of our favorite parties we styled this year was for a set of very girly twins, turning 4! Who says bowling is just for little dudes? With the help of our client, we went all out and every last detail was spot on at this upscale Dallas alley. First, we started with the twins favorite colors...Pink and purple! Add a little stripe and polka dot and you’ve got yourself a sweet, custom designed invitation. We even added a picture on the back of the invite- too cute! We then designed a logo for the party- Peace. Love. Strikes. When each kiddo arrived, they picked out their own hand tye-dyed and custom shirt. Each guest was given a super cute bowling pin water bottle, adorned with their name which was cut out on a vinyl machine and tied with a piece of card stock that was punched in a scalloped circle. Each circle had a cute stripe and dot label- it’s all in the details, people! There was a face painter- a fabulous touch to the party when the kids needed a break from bowling. Tons of fun food, which was served on pink and purple plates. The decor didn’t need to be extremely elaborate because of all the other details. There were pink and purple polka dotted balloons and a cake that was to.die.for. Once the candles were blown out and the cake was eaten, each guest received a goodie bag with a custom designed label. aissez les bons temps rouler! Let the good times roll! I pulled out the beads and masks for this Mardi Gras inspired birthday. Purple, green and gold set the tone for a traditional Mardi Gras celebration. A king cake, cupcakes and popcorn balls were served to all the little guests. Mardi Gras garland and stars hung from the front of the dessert table with tissue fans and a large mask creating the focal point. Everyone went home with a bag full beads and parade trinkets. Cheers to 50 Years By SK Designs

hen most people think about planning a 50th birthday party, “Over the Hill” jokes, gag gifts, and lots of black generally come to mind. This party was a little bit more special because it wasn’t just celebrating one turn of the century, it was celebrating two! The party was a surprise for my parents, who were born 3 days apart. Since it was a joint party it needed to fit for both a man and a woman in both color and theme. Many themes came to mind but Cheers to 50 Years seemed the most appropriate for this particular party. The color scheme that was chosen was Black, White, Gold, and a brillant Blue to really pop the other colors. There is a lot of work that goes into a party and this particular party had many projects to complete including the Cheers to 50 years backdrop piece, photo booth props, the treats, and the candle cake toppers. (Be sure to check out the end of the article for a quick DIY that you can try for your next party!) I contacted my friend Christy at Itsy Belle and she made the cordinating printables for the party, cupcake wraps, bottle wraps, party circles and banners that matched the theme perfectly. The custom printables really add that special feeling to the party! Todd Pelland was able to catch the spirit of the party (and the guests!) through his amazing photographs, one of the best parts of the night was the photobooth - the guests really seemed to enjoy the props they used to strike a silly pose! In place of a traditional guest book each guest’s silly photobooth pictures were added in to a photo album along with a handwritten note from the person in the photo as a momento from the night. The beautiful custom designed flowers on the table were from a local family owned flower shop called Grassis, who never dissapoints for any occasion! The party table had many homemeade treats such as a chocolate dipped pretzel sticks, gold tipped rock candy, brownie bites, shimmery vanilla meringues, and various other candies and sweets. Of course you cannot have a party about getting older without the references of being old! In addition to the sweets table there was also “Turn of the Century” rounds and “Older than Dirt cups.” The big surprise was the two cakes (one

for each of the guests of honor) that were frosted white and revealed a blue color inside once they were cut. During the party guests took a walk down “Memory Lane” by listening to events from that year and the cost of things like a new house - only $7, 000! Guests brought up funny antedotes about the couple from over the 50 years. The usual gag gifts were given and guests ended out the night with black and white striped treat bags filled with delicious chocolate chip cookies and topped with a “Thank You” tag. It was a great way to bring people together to celebrate 50 years past, and the many more to come! plan design and style parties and weddings for a living, so I love any time I get to actually put something together for my family (especially my daughter Reese)! Reese’s sixth birthday party theme this year was Peter Pan – one of Reese’s favorite movies. For young children’s parties, I like to make it to feel more homespun. I really think it’s important to have arts and crafts as part of the details, and make the party more about the activities and games that are age appropriate. After all, kids just want to play! You’ll find that everything we did was inspired by the classic Peter Pan book (and movie), and while it was visually over the top in some respects, it was a success because it was focused on what the kids wanted to do. We invited friends and family (young and old) to dress as Peter Pan characters and enjoy various themed craft and game stations. When the children walked in, their eyes were huge with excitement and wonder over our Never Land back yard. The children just loved these kid-run stations including Mermaid Lagoon sand art, Tink’s bubble blast and watercolor art, Lost Boys hideout, Captain Hook’s ring toss and pirate’s duel, and Indian Country archery practice and photo booth. I think the adults had as much fun watching the kids play and be silly as they did actually enjoying the activities! At the end of the party, we topped it off with favor bags filled with fun toys and prizes! his year St. Patrick’s Day is on a monday. I love celebrating holidays with my kids, but I have to be honest, a monday morning isn’t the most ideal time. Life can be quite hectic getting ready for work and school and whipping up a fancy breakfast just doesn’t always happen. In order to protect my sanity, I decided to have some fun with store bought foods. I poured some bowls of fruit loops and lucky charms, stacked some powdered donuts on paper straws, set out some pop tarts and mini pancakes served with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. I grabbed all of my green paper fans from my stash and hot glued on some gold coins. I bought some shamrocks and a scarf from the dollar store and gold coins and shamrock cupcake picks from my local craft store. I wrapped some scrapbook paper around milk bottles and made a shamrock tags with their names on them for a personal touch. I didn’t have any green ribbon so I used my scarf to decorate my cake plate. St. Patricks Day Backdrop DIY By 4 Kids Cakes

ere is a quick and easy St.Patrick’s Day Back Drop. Almost everyone made a paper chain when they were a kid. This is a fast way to add some color behind your display, and an easy way to get your kids involved!
Step one - supplies - I purchased a pack of assorted green cardstock at Michael’s Craft store. You’ll need a paper cutter (or scissors), a stapler, clear thread, and clear tape. Step three- Once you have all your chains made, string them onto the clear thread. Make a loop on each end. Attach each loop to the wall (I used a thumb tack). Using the clear tape, add a piece between each chain -it will keep the chains spaced just how you want them & no one will be able to see the tape.
Step two- To make one chain, you’ll need 4 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11” paper. Cut each paper into 8 strips. Using your stapler, connect each strip of paper to the next. I kept to one color per chain, but you can mix it up if you want.

t was exciting to style a budget friendly party setup for Jessica at Everyday Party Magazine. I admire the latest trends and decided on the “What Does the Fox Say?� theme. I kept the design simple with a Young Fox which reminds me of the Spring season. With my primary focus on Spring and the Young Fox I knew I needed a color scheme of Navy Blue and Gray. I designed coordinating printables, photographed all details of the set up and items from wonderful local vendors. It was a fun and exciting set up to style! y family loves spening time outdoors, in the Spring. We also love having get togethers with friends and family, eating pizza and too many sweets, and cook outs in the back yard. Spring in Florida is delightful, it’s not too hot, the bugs aren’t big enough to carry away small children, and the days are longer. I have asked my hubby to help me build a farmstyle table for a long time., and this party was the perfect reason to finally get it done. I love it so much and it truly fit the style of the party so well. I placed all the pizza making supplies and ingredients on the table, as well as a few little decor items, the caprese salad appetizer, and a pitcher of Sangria. I put the pizza toppings in small glass dessert bowls and lined them in the upcycled wooden box I made in the fall. To give the bowls height in the box, I poured my collection of wine corks in the box and placed the bowls on top. I used a Dollar Tree clear vase with water to hold the green onions,. The onions looked like a floral centerpiece on the table, and I loved it. The dessert table was a simple one, I used a variety of green candy from SweetWorks as well as a few store bought treats. I added my son’s herb garden to the table and my son’s wattering can. The watering can once belonged to my great grandmother, and is a big source of pride for my son to use and call his own, so he was quite delighted to have it on the table. The herbs were used on the pizzas and with the appetizers, and their colors looked wonderful next to the apothecary jar of candy. I also had mini cannoli and gelato from the grocery store,. The cannoli had chocolate chips on them, but I took those off and added small shimmering green pearl candies instead. I put them on a bed of more green pearl candies on one of my white cake plates. The gelato was served in shot glasses with sixlets on the bottom and an Ovation chocolate and carmel candy stick on top. The gelato was also placed on a white cake plate. I used a glass milk bottle to hold the gumballs, and it kept the kids from taking handfuls at a time. Finally, I aded sliced fruit to the table in small glass bowls. The boys and our friends girls enjoyed playing late into the night, and the adults enjoyed the food, drinks, and beverages around our fire pit. Everyday Party Magazine 101 Spring 2014

Daffodils and Pinwheels By Sentiments & Occasions
T
he inspiration for this theme comes from a combination of my daughter’s absolute love of pinwheels and my adoration of the spring season. I tried to invoke the feelings of spring through the use of simple, fun, and whimsical decorations. I love mixing patterns and bold colors and incorporated the fuchsia and yellow polka dot and chevron prints throughout the décor from the banner to the utensil wrappers. I designed a bunting banner using the theme colors/ patterns to fill in the letters and accented each letter with a daffodil or pinwheel, then layered the flags on fuchsia card stock so that it would stand out against the yellow polka dot backdrop. The backdrop was made from fabric that I found at Jo-Ann’s. The treat table carried the theme, as well, consisting of pink lemonade cupcakes topped with a whipped cream cheese icing, pink and yellow candy apples (why does Fall get to have all the fun?!), and homemade caramel popcorn with peanuts. The cupcake and candy apple stands are decorated with a white picket fence that I bought at Hobby Lobby. I made all of the treats, as well as the cupcake wrappers, cupcake topper, candy apple toppers, and favor tags. The candy apple recipe can be found at Rose Bakes. Two of my favorite features are the cute daffodil straws and daffodil treat cups that were inspired by a tutorial I found at Bless This Mess Please. I used cardstock for the straw toppers, as in her tutorial. However, for the treat cups, I used a yellow napkin, which made four daffodils per napkin. I used the same napkins used in my table setting to ensure they matched. I like the delicate feel and look of the thin paper for the treat cups. Also, I opted to use a yellow-orange mini cupcake liner for the center of the daffodils because this offered more contrast.

Often they can be customized, personalized, and you are able to print unlimited copies! This is such a delightful theme and makes me cheerful just looking at it. English Garden Inspired Spring Celebration By Cupcake Wishes and Birthday Dreams Everyday Party Magazine 109 Spring 2014

hen thinking of a way to celebrate the coming of spring, my mind immediately is drawn to the many sights and sounds of the season. I envisioned a tranquil English manor greenhouse or garden filled with the sounds of chirping birds , topiaries, birdcages and various shades of mossy green. This inspiration led me to create a lovely garden inspired celebration adorned with dainty and delicate handmade paper pieces and lovely gifts to welcome in the wonders of spring. The dessert table was a simple and easy to set up. A canvas cloth and paper garland served as a backdrop. Chocolate cupcakes were placed into small terra cotta pots and topped with green pom pom toppers to look like topiaries, store bought finger print cookies in these shape of flowers were displayed on a plain white platter and a sheet of patterned paper was added for a pop of color. A plain iced cake played centerpiece to the table outfitted witha mini yarn pom pom topper. Various other gardening elements complimented the table to keep with the look and feel I was going for. I used a birdcage decorative wall piece to display a paper banner that reads ‘spring’. Glass jars and containers were also filled with other sweet treats, porcelain birds, and yarn wrapped decorative eggs which were showcased in an apothecary jar. Under the table, wooden and wire crates and baskets held garden bulbs, potted flowers and other garden faire. An antique birdcage was dressed up with several tissue paper tassels, potted flowers and a porcelain bird. A simple burlap and lace bunting ties the front of the table together with the rest of the overall design.

The dining table also had reflections of spring dĂŠcor. I used a good quality wrapping paper for the table cover and a length of extra wide burlap ribbon served as a table runner. Mini bird cages and more porcelain birds were used to tieinto the look of the dessert table and three vases filled with bloomed hyacinth finished the look of the centerpiece for this table. In keeping with the green hued color scheme, bottles of sparkling water were added to each place setting. The small square plates are a perfect size for dining at a small affair. Each one was topped with a vintage look packet of seeds. At the end of the party guests can go home with a gift to show your thanks. Using scrapbook paper and a few embellishments, ordinary paper bags become beautifully decorated bag of treats. It was a true joy to put together this lovely spring filled celebration and share ways to usher in the beauty of spring with a small host of friends! I created a festive table with items from the 99cents only store, and items around my house. I repainted a gardening table that I picked up from a neighbor’s yard sale, for $10. I filled the center sink bin with artificial flowers, and stuffed mini clay pots with cupcakes. I put together a simple pink bunny & Easter egg banner for $2. y beautiful friend Amanda from Av & Addi Children’s Shoppe, had the most adorable little girl so I thought it would be fun to have a spring sip and see with a few friends to show her off. I knew I wanted a rustic, shabby chic, country farm feeling with some modern, whimsical touches. So I contacted the amazingly talented ladies from Edible Details, Embellished Paper, SewFab, and Simply Sweet Photography and my fabulous friends Tammy and Wally, shared my idea with them and they made my vision come to life! I am a serious DIYer so I had a ton of fun creating projects for the event. I recently became a little obsessed with fabric so it turned up everywhere! The dessert table tablecloth was made from a piece of green burlap and strips of torn fabric knotted together. It turned out even better than I imagined it! I used the extra fabric from the tablecloth and covered clothes pins, wrapped strips around the vases, and dishes and made dozens of fabric flowers. I painted four grapevine wreaths from the dollar store, added some of the fabric flowers and tied them to the back of the chairs with more fabric. {I told you I am obsessed!} I created the fun feather place mats from yellow circle place mats I found on clearance and hot glued the feathers on. The chicken wire backdrop was a little out of my league so my fabulous hubby built it for me. The perfect little chick cupcake toppers were created by the amazingly talented Brittany of Edible Details. The beautiful banner, food and lemonade labels and place cards were created by Megan of Embellished Paper. The adorable baby chick sugar cookies came from Bake Me Pretty. The amazingly cute little dress, shoes and matching hat were all handmade by SewFAB. The beyond amazing photos were taken by the Everyday Party Magazine 117 Spring 2014
