I
loved styling this Kentucky Derby Bridal Shower. The colors were plum, lavender, lime green and gray. The focus was on horses and roses because of the famous “run for the roses” at the Kentucky Derby. My husband was sweet enough to build cupcake “grandstands” that surrounded the horseshoe shaped cake topped with horse cake pops. Mint julep cupcakes were served with purple roses and a mint leaf. Beautiful rose cookies dusted with silver, lavender French macarons with a rose on top, and chocolate covered Oreos were also served. Plum and lavender colored roses were added to the rag bunting to look like winner’s ribbons! The backdrop was a “Bride to Be” banner and a hand-crafted horseshoe shaped coffee filter wreath. The coffee filters were dyed matching colors of the theme, dried, and then cut and made into roses. Such a fun DIY project! Tutorial available on www.theprettypartyshoppe.com. A Mint Julep Bar was created with fresh mint, ginger syrup, and mint syrup. Plus a pretty little lime green paper straw to sip it from. It was a fun way to create a derby drink your own way! e’ve all heard the joke about “Summer Parties”, right? Some are great, some are not. Well, here is one that is even better than great. This Farm Girl Party is simply off-the-charts incredible. The event was planned and coordinated by The Party Designer, Inc. Her prep time took her about 1 1/2 weeks, and she incorporated colors of pink and white, with splashes of green through out. This party included pony rides, a petting zoo, a balloon artist, and other assorted outdoor children’s games. To achieve the look she wanted, TPD rented wooden picnic tables and benches, farm tables and chairs, and wooden serving platters. A large tent was also rented, and was decorated by Hollywood Pop. She paid a visit to Etsy the handmade wooden games, which included tic tac toe and a ring toss. Both large and small hay bales and vintage style milk jugs rounded out the decorative details. Nautical Baby Shower by: Natalie Bradley Events
L
ast summer, I planned, designed and styled a nautical themed baby shower for good friends of ours, and it was fabulous! The mom-to-be inspired us with the nautical theme as that was the nursery’s theme as well. When it comes to any event, as you know, details make the design. So around every corner, we wanted to surprise guests and our honored mama with well-thought out touches. For the decor, sailboats, anchors, seashells, and lanterns were used as fabulous accents, but were also a gift for the guest of honor to take home and incorporate into the nursery. At the entry, guests were greeted with jumbo-sized white balloons on the front lawn and a life saver inspired wreath. Our signature raspberry lemonade was red in color to coordinate with our color scheme, and served out of mason jars decorated with little life savers and red and white bakers twine. Dozens of note cards were created using rubber stamps, designer scrapbook paper and double-faced satin ribbon for advice to mom on her little sailor. Cupcakes were the couples favorite recipe and were nautical themed as well. And as guests departed, they were given little packets of life saver breath mints in bags stamped with an anchor in either red or blue. Everyone had the best time, especially our guest of honor! very now & then, I love having my girlfriends over for drinks. With Cinco de Mayo coming up, I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to share delicious margaritas & tasty appetizers! Lisa from Sweet Pop Studio created some fun & festive printables for my fiesta. Decor: My backdrop consisted of a Mexican serapi. I then added big yellow tissue balls, and tissue fans in green & red. I clustered them together, and hung them on both sides. With all the fun printables from Sweet Pop Studio, I made banners for my dessert table, party favor tags, cupcake toppers, mini table signs, and photo booth props. Menu: I served strawberry & mango margaritas on my favorite drink cart. I spray painted it green to tie in with my theme. I displayed chips inside of a sombrero, with two kinds of salsa, taquitos, mini tacos, and chicken pazole. Little cupcakes with festive toppers were for dessert. On my table, I used a serapi as a table runner. I added flowers inside of used chili cans, and served our meal on earthenware. I wrapped the eating utensils inside cloth chili napkins, added a chili pepper, and tied it all with twine. Guest favors: All my girlfriends enjoy a cocktail, or two. I made sure I sent them home with a little something fun for them to enjoy for later. Each guest received mini bottles of margarita mix, and little shaker bottles. I attached a “muchas gracias mis amigas” favor tag, and cut out a paper lime. My girlfriends loved their party favors, and can’t wait to get together again next year. Ole! Summer Happy Bee-day Party by: Printable Parties to Go hen I think of Summer I imagine bright colors like the shade

of yellow. With this color shade in mind I came up with idea of a Bee-tiful design. I kept the design simple with a Cute Bee which reminds me of the summer time. With my primary focus on Summer and the Bee I knew I needed a color scheme of yellow, black and white. Keeping up with the latest trends I used black and white chevron with accents of yellow. I purchased the desserts from a local vendor and photographed the table set up of all the goodies! Pinwheels & Kites

hen I saw the adorable kites and pinwheels party printables from Hostess Ink I knew I had to use them! The bright colors and fun patterns just screamed summer to me. It was just what I was looking for our end of the school year summer vacation party. We had our party at the park to kick off our summer fun. My fabulous friend Becca from Batter Up! Sweetery made the amazing cake for our celebration. I made the fun kite Rice Krispie treats. I simply cut store bought treats into kite shapes and drizzled them with melting chocolates. I stuck them on cute paper straws, added the adorable paper flags, and voila! Every summer party needs ice cream! I painted paper mâché cones, added a little rick rack, layered some cupcake wrappers to make them food safe, and filled them with cotton candy. It’s ice cream without the mess. And of course, no summer party is complete with out lemonade. I served icy cold lemonade in Starbucks Frap bottles embellished with printable wrappers. The favor boxes were filled with all the FUN summer essentials for kids; bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and of course pinwheels. The table was adorable with the fun cut outs that matched the printables, as well as signs and the beautiful colored flowers! The kids had a great time running around the park with their pinwheels and blowing bubbles while we celebrated our summer vacation kick off!

American Girl Tea Party by: Eyecandy Creative Studio
L
ittle girls LOVE dolls and also having tea parties. So when my daughter suggested we do something for her birthday that involved both of those things . . . the ‘American Birthday TEA Party’ was born. We chatted up the theme for awhile and what she wanted was a fun day where she could invite her closest friends, have them bring their American Girl dolls and have a tea party WITH their dolls! No problem, this momma got to work on the theme by illustrating some graphics for the invite along with choosing the color scheme of red, pink, soft teal, white & khaki. I wanted the feel of a shabby chic tea party with some lace & fabrics but with a modern edge. The menu for the party consisted of an assortment of heart-shaped tea sandwiches, pasta salad cups, fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries and a cheeseball and crackers to munch on. The guests loved having a variety of finger foods to choose from and enjoyed trying it all. For dessert we had some amazing cookies that were designed by Whip It Good cookies, that matched the theme perfectly as she sent cookies in the shapes of tea cups, tea pots, flowers and cookies with the birthday girl’s name on them. Guests also enjoyed cakepops from Blondie’s Treats in the shapes of birds and tea cups with cute hearts on them. The baskets I placed the cakepops in were from Tag me Chic. I also made heart-shaped whoopie pies with an amazing vanilla crème center that were gone before we knew it. We set up a tea party for all of the girls and their dolls, after the birthday girl opened all of her presents. The best part about this tea party is, everything that the girls got to have, we had a mini one for their dolls too. We had a place setting for each girl using vintage plates and tea cups along with tiny plates and cups for their dolls. Each one had a mini cake stand holding a mini heart shaped cake, at their place setting to enjoy! Whip It Good cookies also sent along mini cookies, that were the perfect size for the dolls to “enjoy” at the tea party. The girls enjoyed snackEveryday Party Magazine 33 Summer 2014

ing on mini heart shaped PB&J cookies, shortbread cookies along with their “tea”, that was a special pink lemonade, served to each of them by myself & my two helpers, so they could relax & enjoy themselves while we waited on them during their tea party. Each guest AND their doll, were given a special hair clip designed by Skylar Raine, as a party favor to remember their fun time at the tea. It was so cute to see the girls pick out the one they wanted to wear & also choose one for their own dolls. We did however have one boy at the tea, and he received a special bow tie to enjoy. A special area was set up for the girls to “shop” for things that they thought their dolls would enjoy during the tea party. They could find an assortment of “play” desserts, cake stands and baking supplies along with party favors for themselves to take home. One of the best ideas we came up with, was filling a little container full of mini hair clips and mini bobby pins, so each girl could have one a collection of items to ‘style’ their dolls hair during the party. Towards the end of the day, the girls had the opportunity to show off their creative sides, by making necklaces for themselves using wooden, hand painted beads and ribbon. The guests also enjoyed having loads of fun, getting their photos taken, with all of the photo props I had available, for the picture taking. Before the guests headed home, we sang happy birthday to the birthday girl and enjoyed an amazing cake. I baked and decorated it myself, but I used fondant pieces on the cake and the mini tea party cakes, that were made by Country Cupboard Cakes. The wooden “doll & me” peg dolls were made by Craft My Party and she did an awesome job painting them for me to match. I
have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. I am patiently waiting for the day when I can take them to a real tea room where we can sip on tea and enjoy fancy pastries. While waiting for this day to come I decided that we should spend an afternoon sipping tea, eating yummy deserts, and enjoy each other’s company. As much as I enjoy over the top parties, sometimes having something simple and on a budget is the perfect fit. On a beautiful sunny early afternoon we, with the help of my husband, walked over to the nature spot right next to our home and set up for our tea party. The table cloth was a sheer drapery panel. We used cake stands that I have collected over the years and a tea set that I had been itching to use. The rest of the decor is items from around the house. One thing I was taught growing up was to never be afraid to use your fine china. Believe it or not those crystal glasses are part of our everyday stemware. When it comes to food, with us, the simpler the better. The table spread included different flavors mini bunt cakes, croissants along with raspberry jam, chocolate chip muffins, raspberry white chocolate cookies, and of course fresh fruit. For drinks we had tea, lemonade, and water. When it comes to food for at party I always go for what’s going to be most likely to be eaten rather than what sounds fancier. I have starved at too many weddings to let that happen. I loved seeing my little girl’s face light up every time she sipped her tea or ate one of the mini bunt cakes or trying to act proper. Operation Shower Red, White, and Coo O
peration Shower’s recent “Red, White and Coo” event was featured on Extra on June 20, 2013.
Operation Shower recently teamed up with the Travelers Championship, Birdies for the Brave®, Carousel Designs and the entertainment news show Extra to host a baby shower for 40 military moms-to-be whose spouses are deployed members of the U.S. Navy and the Connecticut Army National Guard. The “Red White and Coo” themed event was hosted by Extra lifestyle correspondent Hilaria Thomas Baldwin, an expectant mother herself and wife to actor Alec Baldwin. “I’m thrilled to host this event with Operation Shower, Birdies for the Brave and Extra,” said Baldwin. “Preparing for a baby is incredibly exciting, but can also be very expensive. I’m so proud to be able to support and spend time with these military moms-to-be while providing them with the necessities for welcoming their new bundles of joy into the world.” During the shower, the honored moms enjoyed a lunch provided by Applebee’s. They were able to win prizes and be among the company of other military moms-to-be. Each mom received an array of gifts, such as diaper bags, crib bedding and baby clothing. All gifts were donated by various companies, including Carousel Designs, Travelers Insurance, Petunia Pickle Bottom, Extra and 4moms. “Our goal is to bring the moms together with other moms who are in the same situation to provide them with lots of fun gifts, but also to bring together a group of people that want to say thank you and tell the moms that we appreciate and love them and we know that what they’re doing is hard and that they deserve a baby shower,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey. Throughout the years, Operation Shower has significantly

impacted the military moms-to-be. This event was particularly special for mother Victoria Magnusson who had previously never heard of Operation Shower and was delighted to be able to meet and discuss with other mothers in similar situations. “[Operation Shower] is mind-blowing. It’s so beautiful, and the service that they’re doing for us…just to even be thought of as important is a blessing,” said Magnusson. During the ceremony, Admiral Kenneth Perry and his wife took the stage to say a special thank you to all of the mothers. “Our submarines are doing terrific work for the country and for the Navy, and your husbands are doing superb work aboard the ships. I
designed a snack table for my celebration of a television show I was starring. My mom said I could have a watch party and invite friends. My design was around my personality. I like fashion, pink and Hollywood. I love to act. When you put all that together you get me! My mom gave me $10 to shop at my favorite dollar store and I bought snacks that I love and decorations. I couldn’t forget the root beer! I love root beer! My mom let me use an old party backdrop and I added paper superstar food signs. I also had VIP invites that I made myself. I made pink velvet cupcakes with sprinkles and added a pink sparkling tablecloth. It was fabulous. It was a great day! ~ Nyiah L. hen Rachel and Chris told me they wanted a vintage arcade themed wedding, I could not have been any more excited! I love themes that break the mold, and are anything but “normal.” Chris is a web designer and programer, he designed my webpage, and subsequently he and Rachel hired me to coordinate their wedding. It was so special to get to know them before I worked on their wedding! Because of Chris’ design knowledge, he and Rachel created their own save the date cards, invitations, and RSVP cards! Chris and Rachel’s creativity did not stop with just the paper products! Rachel designed and hand made each of their wedding rings too! Together with her bridesmaids, Rachel also made the bouquets and boutonnieres. The happy couple’s friends played a huge part in their wedding and reception celebration as well. One of Rachel’s friends made the amazing Rice Crispie treat cake and individual treats with gummi dinosaurs on each one. The dinosaurs represent the couple’s nicknames for each other, stemming from the book, A Lovely Love Story. The reception was hosted at Arkadia Retrocade, with carnival style treats and desserts. The guests nibbled on mini corn dogs, sliders, veggie shooters, cotton candy on coordinating yellow and grey straws, popcorn, and candy from the color coordinated candy buffet. The guests were also treated to wine brought in by a friend from Caduceus Cellars Winery in California, owned by the lead singer of the band Tool, Maynard James Keenan! The guests played video games in super hero masks, and danced the night away to celebrate the union of this amazing, fun loving, couple that wanted to wed in an intimate and unique way with their close friends and families.

utdoor picnics are always a favorite Summer pastime of ours. I thought a small backyard picnic for Father’s Day would be the perfect way to tell Dad how much he is loved & appreciated. Using printables from Printabelle, I was able to create a quick, and fuss-free dessert table that was fit for a fabulous Father! I fell in love with the blue tones of the printable kit, and knew I wanted to pair it with rich brown tones. I attached chicken wire to a pallet, and spray painted it brown. I also found a weathered table that was perfect to display some of Dad’s favorite snacks. Treats: I filled up pails with bottles of rootbeer, peanuts, and donuts on sticks. Chocolate cupcakes were also a must. Printables: I added a ‘Best Dad’ banner that describes Dad

to a tee! Not only did I put cupcake toppers on the cupcakes, I added them to mini ties that were placed around the bottles of rootbeer. I attached the toppers to the front of pails, and tied one onto the pail of peanuts. I took Printabelle’s larger thank you tags and added them to paper fans from Oriental trading, and placed them to the tops of the skewered donuts. An 8x10 printable ‘Best Dad Ever’ sign was used as part of the backdrop, and the mini candy bar wrappers were added to the striped paper straws. My little guy wanted to plan the menu for his & daddy’s backyard picnic. He decided on hot dogs, and taquitos. We packed the food, and a couple plates inside of a picnic basket, and then set out a blanket. The conversation that afternoon was priceless. Backyard Food Truck Rally Birthday Party by: Let’s Get This Party Started!
W
hen my son told me he wanted a bounce house at his birthday party (along with every cartoon character known to man) I knew I needed to have more than just a bounce house plopped in the back yard. It’s totally fine to do that, I just wanted to have more. Tate is my different thinker, he marches to his own beat, and we all just go with it. Tate also likes food, he’s not terribly picky and he will usually try new things. With that in mind, and the need for a big bounce house, I decided we would have a food truck rally style party in the back yard. My husband and I went to Home Depot and bought several types of wall board, cheap lumber pieces, and spray paint. We knew what we wanted the trucks to be shaped like, 2 panel trucks, a teardrop style travel trailer, and a classic VW bus. Together we drew out our outlines and cut the boards with jigsaws. Once they were cut, I got to work spray painting them to match their food theme. The more kid friendly food was served in front of the Food Junkies truck. We had corn dog muffins in cupcake cups with tiny plasticware, macaroni and cheese in cupcake cups with hand stamped wooden serviceware, and sliders in chevron paper bags. I put all the food in a tiered tray from Target, with a galvanized bucket of juice for the kids next to it. The Green Truck was a fruit and veggie truck. I served salad in Ball Canning Jars, fruit in cupcake cups, and carrot and celery sticks in the cutest little chevron bags I have ever seen! I decorated around the Green Truck with our potted herbs and some flowers, as well as pretty floral bunting. We decided to use the VW bus and name it Epic Eats to serve the more traditional food truck foods. We made the most amazing pulled pork in the crock pot, and served it on slider rolls. My hus-

band made a batch of his nearly famous chili. And, I ordered a tray of Chick Fil A chicken nuggets and sandwiched them between two mini Eggo waffles with appetizer forks. These were a HUGE hit, and my kids even asked for them for dinner again the next night. Finally, we had a dessert truck. I really wanted to make a mini teardrop camper that the kids could play in, but time and rainy weather prevented us from being able to make one. We cut out a facade instead, and it was perfect! We decided to name the dessert truck Chubby’s and we served cupcakes from Sam’s Club, fresh funnel cake, woopie pies from My Sweet Things, and caramel apples and popcorn. Because the party was primarily outside, I wanted to have handi-wipes and bleach wipes readily available for the guests. I made the most adorable containers for the wipes using the new green Ball Canning Jars, a rubber grommet, and my drill. (Look for the DIY on the webpage soon) Gretchen from Three Little Monkeys Studio was such a great help with this party! She designed a perfect invitation, and coordinating printables for the party. I just love Gretchen! Each child left the party with a popcorn bag full of goodies to represent each truck style. Fruit and veggies seed were added from the Green Truck, a cupcake shaped crazy straw from Chubby’s, gummi candy coke bottles from Food Junkies, and choco-straws from Epic Eats. y Aubrey LOVES Ariel, but I’m not a huge fan of character parties so we compromised on a whimsical mermaid theme. The color scheme was mostly blues and greens with hints of pink and lavender. I wanted the dessert table to be the focal point of the party. I fashioned the backdrop to look like it was under water. I used paper streamers to simulate water and topped it with beautiful paper medallion “bubbles” I got from the party store. I found the idea for the paper lantern jellyfish from Party City. My friend Donna from Swish Printables designed all the invites, food tents and game signs for the big day nad my friend Glory from Glorious Treats helped me get everything in place! Party Food: Everything had an ocean theme, the food, the games, the decor. The kiddos munched on goodies like Sea Shell Cookies, Pearl Pops, the Catch of the Day (Goldfish), Mermaid Tails (rock candy sticks) and Jell-O Fish, just to name a few. They searched for buried treasure in our sandbox, made messages in a bottle and went fishing for

prizes. As a special thank you they took home a Squinkie Ariel in a jar (I found this idea via the TomKat Studio) and pearl bracelets. The kids all had a blast! And my little mermaid got the party of her dreams! Red, White, and BOOM! by: My Thrifty Sister

ourth of July is one of my favorite times of the year. My son was born in July and I remember celebrating the fourth with sparklers in the street, He has a son of his own now but he’s still my little firework. Now I’m spending my July’s in Phoenix and it’s time for a fun indoor BBQ with friends and watching fireworks pool side. If you live where there is better weather in July, move all this outside. For this year’s party I gathered everything red white or blue and started putting my table scape together. Mardi gras beads, flags, napkins, red and blue plates. It’s surprising how many items I can find, including a can of spray paint in all 3 colors. You can’t have a good party without some good music and a song list including “I’m proud to be an American” If you have a Spotify account there are several patriotic song lists to choose from for your party. I’ve been saving this Lace and Ribbon Flag since I saw it on Pinterest and with a My Thrifty Sister twist added a Denim pocket and buttons. I bought rolls of white and red ribbon, lace and rick rack and glued the strips to a 5 gallon paint stick and the back side of the pocket. My inspiration came from Pinterest. The painted bundt pan idea came from Goodwill where I found one blue and one cream I knew right away to buy a third one and use my can of red paint! The Menu: Hot Dogs :: Hebrew National or Nathans, no cheap dogs at our house. I <3 S.F. BBQ beans with my friends secret ingredient [but I’ll tell you, add ¼ cup liquid smoke to your canned baked beans, it makes them taste amazing]

Patriotic fruit kabob :: Alternate Strawberry and banana slices with blue berries at the end for the flag. Walk and Talk Veggie Jars. I add a layer ranch dip in the jar and then sliced veggies. Guests can walk and talk with their own jar with as they mingle with friends, include a toothpick for the last couple veggies, and no double dipping this way. Blue and White Corn Chips with Red Salsa. I always include black beans and yellow corn and of course cilantro. Firecracker Sugar Cookies. Start with a good sugar cookie. I bought some frosting from my local grocer’s bakery, and added the frosting to a ziplock bags and cut off the corner tip for piping. Make concentric circles in all 3 colors then drag a toothpick from the center to the edge of the cookie to make the firework look. Patriotic Sprinkle Rice Krispie Bars. I love all the colored paper straws and saw a cute way to use them on pinterest as handles for a rice krispie bar to go. I dipped them in white chocolate candy melts, then into my patriotic sprinkles. Let them dry completely on wax paper before putting them on your display plate. Tea dyed flag + Mason jar + battery tea light will be my take home gift for my friends. There are times I feel I have an original idea, then I go to Pinterest and find that 1700 other people had the same idea I didn’t like the look of the pure white of the flag so I tea dyed them in some hot steeped instant tea [pretty strong, you wouldn’t of wanted to drink this glass]. I heated up ½ cup water with instant tea, dropped my flag in and let it steep with the tea. Pull a couple threads from a yard of burlap and wrap the flag to my jar. I love an easy gift that let my guests know I was thinking of them as I made it and then as they see their jar at their home they will remember our fun Fourth. elebrating Fourth of July as Independence Day has been something that I had to adjust to when I came to the United States seventeen years ago. Almost eleven years ago I met my husband during Fourth of July weekend and thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s how the holiday became a little more special to us. It seems that every year Independence day is a low key celebration for my family. We usually spend the day swimming, visiting the local fair and later going see the fireworks. When it came to this styled shot I decided to do something that we would usually do: a last minute get together with things that we have around the home. As much as we love homemade food, when it comes to putting parties together at the very last minute my husband and I believe in the 70/30 rule: 70% store bought or made by someone else ; 30% homemade by us. In this instance everything in the dessert table was store bought and everything for the main course was homemade. I decided to arrange the dessert table on a outside bench that my husband made for me. I love simple design and being able to bring items from inside the home. In this instance my big piece was the American flag that we painted and used for the focal point of the table. I have been told that there is noting more American than pies, popcorn, caramel apples and Coca Cola. I used apple, cherry and salted caramel apple pie along the traditional ice cream that I think should be part of any event during the summer. For the main course we had pork ribs done by non other than my husband, orzo salad, corn on the cob, corn bread, fresh strawberries and chips and salsa. about the food is that everything was done in less than three hours. The table was dressed with fresh flowers placed in mason jars. Fourth of July means to me to celebrating our freedom, spending time with family and friends and the official start of summer. Hope you have a great celebration this year! Neon Skating Party by: 4 Kids Cakes
W
hat little girl doesn’t like to dress up in bright neon colors to go roller skating? For our daughters 7th birthday, that’s exactly what she wanted - with glitter of course. We had 2 locations for this party. We started out at our house, and finished off the party at the skating rink. Brilliant on our part - we gave them lots of sugar and then let them burn it off at the rink! There were so many fun parts to this party. I am always in awe of PartyOn!Designs way of pulling our parties together with their printables. From water bottle labels, to centerpieces, to using their tags to label the nail polish bottles - their work is flawless! It was really helpful to have the chair signs that were finished off with the tissue fringe from PartyOn! Desings too. No questions about who got to sit where - and with 10 little girls - that was a lifesaver! They even offer iron-ons for t-shirts! The kids loved them and looked so cute. Amberlynn Chocolate Sins made the cutest chocolate suckers for each place setting. Hoopla Events has the cutest party supplies - we used their new striped boxes to hold t-shirts, neon-socks, necklaces by Beck’s Custom Creations, and even hair bows by Tallulah Twinkletoes. We added some glitter & a tag from PartyOn! and were all set! The boxes are wax lined, so they would be great to hold treats/ food in them too. For the dessert table, the birthday girl had some requests. 1) There HAD to be a cake in the shape of a roller skate. 2) Something had to have glitter. 3)She NEEDED cotton candy. Our daughter LOVES cotton candy - so much that she got a cotton candy machine from Santa this past Christmas. Now if you’ve used one of those machines before, you know it takes way too much time to make 11 kids happy - so I have an awesome solution! Soiree Event Designs makes custom cotton candy to match your party! They were a HIT with the kids & the first thing eaten from the dessert table. Cupcake With Character has mad sewing skills & made the ruffled table cloth. We finished off the table with a cake, roller skate cake pops (although one child called them cars, oh well), glitter chocolate covered oreo’s, sugar cookies from Kima’s Everyday Party Magazine 77 Summer 2014

A jar of tootsie rolls & a jar of gum balls for fun were also on the table. After the usual food, cake, and presents, we headed to the skating rink. Tiffany’s Skate Inn has been recently remodeled to offer a pro-shop & a game center. Sponge Bob even stopped by to play the hokey-pokey with the kids. PartyOn!’s giant balloon and tissue fringe was as popular as Sponge Bob - kids asked if they could touch it & wanted pictures with it. The neon outfits were adorable in the dark lighting - making the kids stand out. From races, to just skating around the rink, the kids had a blast. hen I heard the news that my dear friend Joanna was expecting her second baby, I knew I wanted to throw her the most special baby shower! As a party stylist myself, this baby shower had to be over-the-top amazing and one that would not be forgotten! Once Joanna told me that her sweet baby boy’s nursery would be nautical themed I knew I had found my inspiration! I would throw my friend the best nautical theme baby shower! The color palette for the shower consisted of navy blue, yellow and gray with an emphasis on stripes and polka dots. We used anything and everything “beachy” as décor; from driftwood garland, to shells, a wooden anchor, oars and life preservers. It was all brought together by the adorable printables by The TomKat Studio. Upon arriving, guests were greeted by monthly onesies hanging between two navy window panes. The onesies, courtesy of Two Crafty Teachers, doubled as darling nautical theme party decor and a great gift for the mom-to-be. In keeping with the idea of the nautical theme party decor doubling as a baby shower gift, we couldn’t pass up using darling custom pillows from CW Happy Creations. As guests mingled, they sipped mimosas from the mimosa bar and then were invited to a sit down brunch which included salads, baguettes, yogurt parfaits in mini mason jars and seasonal fruit that sat in nautical theme navy and white striped baking cups. When it came to the decor for each table, again we enlisted the help of the very talented gals at Two Crafty Teacher, to create canvas prints that worked with our nautical theme baby shower; navy and blue stripes with a gray sailboat. The extra large balloons hanging at from the top of our tent were a WOW to the guests. We were giddy with excitement when we were able to collaborate with Glassy Baby, as they provided

lovely votive holders and of course, Washington State’s most beautiful season flower, the yellow dahlia. The nautical theme party table runners could not have been more perfect with their bold navy and white stripes. Thank goodness for Long Runners having them available. We couldn’t resist the matching nautical theme striped plates and napkins. They just worked brilliantly with the entire look. After brunch, guests enjoyed all kinds of sweet treats from the dessert table. The nautical theme inspired cupcakes from Trophy Cupcakes and Party were the focal point on the dessert table, along with dessert favorites which included the most light and sweet macarons from 4 Kids Cakes, sparkly and yummy cake pops that utilized striped straws and custom designed and delicious sugar cookies from Sugar Canvas Boutique Bakery. The anchor ribbon around the cake stand, that we used to hold the macarons, was a small detail, but it is all in the details! What party doesn’t end with a party favor and a little thank you? Guests took home a pint size mason jar of homemade Marion berry jam that were sealed with matching navy striped fabric from the table runners, a miniature spoon and yellow bakers twine. It was fun using small containers with sailboats on them for the utensils. At Hoopla Events, we know, it’s all in the details. Whether throwing a nautical theme baby shower for a close friend or a wedding with all of the pomp and circumstance, we style it finesse. Every event must never be forgotten. Once upon a time... by: The Pretty Party Shoppe
O
nce upon a time…. there was a princess named Elizabeth… whose only wish was to become a mermaid... My daughter has wanted to be a mermaid ever since she was two and a half. It’s all she talked about. She would even tell her teachers and administrators that her name was Ariel, which was quite confusing for while. I’m pretty sure she was convinced that she was Ariel. So, I’ve been dreaming of throwing her a mermaid party for the past 3 years. I was thrilled that she finally wanted to have a mermaid party, because the she kept changing her mind on me each year! Of course she did not want it to be any ole mermaid party, she said it had to be a “Mermaid/Ariel/ Princess party.” She is such a girly girl, so I decided to have it at the Little Princess Spa, which is the cutest little party place for girls to get manicures, pedicures, hair do, makeup, and facials. Yes, all of the moms were jealous. The focus of the party was the mermaid tail. I wanted the party to tell a story, so I created 3 signs saying “Once upon a time…. there was a princess named Elizabeth… whose only wish was to become a mermaid.” She has always dreamed of having a mermaid tail (which is how we were able to get her to eat her veggies when she was little we told her it would help her tail grow, and it worked!), so all of the sweets on the table were created with a mermaid tail in mind. Fancy Cakes created beautiful pink and purple fondant mermaid tail toppers (her favorite colors) for the cupcakes. I baked the cupcakes in flower baking cups from Kids and Cakes and made the frosting look like blue ocean waves. Creating Awesomenessity really brought my vision to life by making the sweetest mermaid tail cookies! She also made adorable sea horse and starfish cookies, all with a little sparkle. ed pink mermaid tails. They were a huge hit with the girls! Sweets Indeed made matching candy kabob skewers that the girls took home with them. The table was set up on the most beautiful ruffled tablecloth custom made for us by Cupcake With Character. The simple, but elegant cake was made by Elle Bakes and topped with an Ariel cake topper. I created a special treasure box for the table. I painted it lavender, glued matching sequins on the edges, and added a pink glittery starfish in the center. There were lots of jewels spilling out of the box, and my daughter was able to take it home as a keepsake for her room afterwards. I made an inexpensive cake plate by spray painting a large terra cotta pot and saucer with pink spray paint and glued them together, but upside down. Arielâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s jewelry box was placed on top. For favors, I made each of the girls a special favor box with their name on it. I used Photoshop to add their name to a mermaid that looked similar to each of them, then printed and cut them out and glued to the front of each box. So cute! I also made them starfish wands. by spray painting them each pink and purple, then added a little glitter on top. I then glued them to a long stick and added ribbon. The girls loved them! Each of the girls took home a princess crown, a starfish wand and a personalized box with jewels and Ariel tattoos. They had such a great day getting pampered like princesses! Little Traveler 1st Birthday W

e were recently invited to San Diego, California to set up a Vintage-Travel Theme 1st Birthday. After about a month of planning we flew to the West coast and set up this event for our little Aviator Davian. The young man has traveled more than 5 times in just his first year so this was the perfect theme for him. We heightened the excitement by sending out these adorable “First Class” Boarding passes, inviting little Pilots-in-training to come travel with Peralta Airlines. We ordered the invites from Etsy, created by Louisa of “Flipawoo Designs” & they were perfect. The colors we used were Navy Blue, Red & Beige Burlap. We wanted the guest to feel like they were traveling the world with him, so we handed out Boarding passes as lanyards for the kids, as well as little Pilot Pins for them to wear throughout their flight. The venue was outdoors which gave it an amazing feel to be outside, just like in an airplane. To make sure we covered the aspect of the travel theme we decorated the tables with Vintage Airplanes which sat on a bed of clouds, and every other table had Vintage Globes. We made a special table for the “Little Pilots” they each had a Vintage Map for their place mats to guide them around the world, & a decorated Mason Jar for their Keepsake cups. To top it off we created two tables for the guests to enjoy. One table was filled with Sweets along with these “In Flight-Treats” that we custom made. The Cake was designed to look like a luggage with an airplane on top, can you find it in the display? We hand crafted a Banner that showcased each Month of Baby Davian first year. We ordered these adorable chocolate covered Oreos & that had planes & clouds on them, as well as Marshmallow pops from Vanessa of V’s Indulgence. There was also a “ Baggage Claim” table where all the kids were to claim there favors which were hand painted airplanes and luggage’s for the boys & Hand crafted Vintage Style Everyday Party Magazine 91 Summer 2014

As a finishing touch we also created an Arrival & Departure Open photo booth were guests were able to take pictures with a Polaroid for Davian’s scrapbook & keep one for themselves. We also got those photo booth Props on Etsy from Sabrina of “Lil Faces Printables” as well. Real Mom Party Mermaid Party
essa’s mermaid party was done on a thoughtful, yet creative budget. Tessa invited 6 of her closest friends to her party. She said she wanted crafts and sea inspired food. To set the mood, we played spa type music in a room of blue crepe paper and wall covering filled with ocean wonders. Each guest hand painted a mermaid, a Pinterest inspired project I found

online. When the girls finished painting their mermaids, they each painted their own treasure boxes filled with treasures from under the sea. They all thoroughly enjoyed mixing paint to create their own colors and make their own masterpiece and party favor. After the girls painted, they sat down to enjoy a lunch from under the sea. They ate octopus hot dogs and spaghetti that was col-
ored green to look like seaweed. They also ate whale and goldfish crackers, as well as a salad made with all types of sea inspired veggies. Finally, the girls got their mermaid wiggles out by dancing to tropical sounding music. The birthday girl and her guests had a fabulous time celebrating under the sea! My total budget for this party was just $40!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Birthday Party by: DIY Modern Hostess
T
here is nothing better than hosting a character party for your kid--and by that we mean a character that you loved as a kid (we admit, we were nerds)! Our little guy Keaton wanted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles party for his 6th birthday, and we were happy to oblige! We started with what we feel is a more “modern” approach to the theme, using a mono-tonal grey brick pattern, green polka dots and sunbursts, and a multi colored ninja star pattern we designed. Keaton is no stranger to a dessert table, and had some specific requests for what was included! He requested a cake that featured the blue ninja turtle, so that is what we had! A two-tier green fondant covered cake was instantly created into a ninja turtle replica by adding some fondant details and ninja swords made out of cardboard and fondant. Keaton helped make the “pizza” cookies that were an integral part of our design (and were turned into an awesome favor for everyone to take home)! Small glasses were filled with lemon lime jello and labeled with a “radioactive symbol” to create “ooze,” and there were chocolate covered Oreos that had personalized fondant sewer lids. Using the colors and weapons of each Ninja Turtle, we created brownie pop displays that were easily the most loved feature for the pint-sized guests. Simple chocolate fudge cupcakes were dipped in sprinkles and topped with paper circles that matched the theme, and paper wrappers we designed. Mini appetizer plates were topped with a selection of candy “sushi” that was almost too adorable to eat! We created the sushi with rice kris pie treats, a selection of different colored gummy candies, and colored fondant. One kind was even rolled in black sesame seeds for authenticity. A set of chopsticks with a custom label was included with each plate. Also included were mini cheesecakes (to represent New York City)! For food, we kept everything NYC themed, and a Ninja Turtle party must include pizza! The food table

also included selections like Chinese take-out style food, Asian noodle salad, pastrami sandwiches, and mini hot dogs. On the food table, we also had a large drink dispenser that was labeled with custom “OOZE: Risk of Mutation” text and filled with green-colored juice. We created a simple favor bag for the children invited with green bags labeled with a “Thank You” sticker. Inside were Ninja Turtle coloring pages, notebooks, temporary tattoos and stickers, and a pizza cookie in a striped treat bag. Each bag also had a Ninja Turtle Easter egg (random, but April is a great time of year to plan a party because small character treats and containers are everywhere)! That held mutant “ooze” that we made following one of many instructions on Pinterest. It was SO easy to make, and the kids loved it! Each kid also got to take home a water bottle (a score from the dollar store)! That had a vinyl Ninja Turtle Mask and custom tag. All the other guests took home a custom mini pizza box with a label containing a pizza cookie that the birthday boy made. This Ninja Turtle party was so much fun to put together, and the kids loved every bit of it. And, all the parents at the party were talking about all of the movies and cartoons we watched as kids! It was a little guilty pleasure that we all indulged in for the afternoon. We look forward to sharing more DIY Modern Hostess parties in the future!
