Cinco de Mayo Celebration

e hosted this fun Cinco de Mayo Party for my Mom’s dog’s birthday (yes, you read that correctly) recently.

It was a fun family party with a DIY Taco Bar, good drinks, dogs dressed in sombreos and ponchos, and delicous treats.

I created printable bunting flags and tags for the party that will be a free download on the blog tomorrow, May 1.

Mother’s Day Brunch for Our Super Hero

ou will never realize how much your mother loved you, until you have had a child of your own. I remember hearing this after I had my first baby and thinking about how much more I loved and appreciated my mother for all that she did for me growing up. Being a Mom isn’t easy, but boy is it the most rewarding job you will ever have, just like being a superhero!

For this Mother’s day I wanted to create a beautiful intimate brunch for my superhero, my Mom. Light shades of pink seem to be the most traditional colors for Mother’s Day and my theme was anything but traditional. I decided a cooler color pallet with navy, mint and teal would be fun with pops of bright yellow and hot pink. Since I was using white dishes I was excited to find this striped tablecloth and coordinating napkins at Target, which gave the table some color. Instead of using cut flowers for the centerpiece and buffet I used spring plants and put them in white containers. This was less expensive than cut flowers and I can plant them in our yard later.

In addition to the potted plants, the buffet area was decorated with a print I created and framed, a fun hexagon banner from The Flair Exchange and some small yellow honeycomb balls. All of these items helped create pops of color on my old white dresser where the food was placed buffet style.

The food was simple; my 5280 Hash Brown Pie, apple and cherry strudel, and fresh fruit. A choice of water, coffee and juices were available, but not shown. Each guest could easily fill up their plates from the buffet and not feel over-

whelmed with too many choices.

5280 Hash Brown Pie

*Ingredients:* - 2 cups frozen shredded hash browns - 1/2 cup pieces of cubed ham - 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper - 2 Tablespoons minced yellow onion - Pinch of garlic salt - Pepper to taste - 1 cup Colby-Jack shredded cheese.

- 4 eggs - 1/4 cup milk - Cooking spray *Instructions:* Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bow mix together hash browns, ham, green pepper, onion, seasonings and cheese.

In a separate bowl whisk the eggs and milk together until light yellow in color. Spray a pie plate with cooking spray, pour hash brown mixture in, pat it down and then top with egg mixture. Bake for 25-30 minutes until eggs have set and light golden brown around the edges. Let cool for 10 minutes, cut and serve.

Garden Party

his table was designed for the wedding of Kelly and Miguel, a sweet and young couple. They wanted a modern table with vibrant colors, they chose a bold color combo: Yellow, red and orange, that was a little intimidating to work with, but it turned out to be a stunning table!

The modern, yet elegant table was filled with a delicious array of desserts that ranged from simply perfect vanilla meringues to tiramisĂş shooters to mini pancake stacks.

Pineapple Spa by 4 Kids Cakes

I

s it just me, or do your kids come up with party themes out of thin air? I happen to love this part of the creative process, and it was so fun to include my daughter in the planning. Her list of requests included: (her favorite fruit) pineapple, pink, (sparkly) gold, a spa, and a sleepover. Hmm..... she must be a planner’s child. Ha! We started off the party with the spa. Green Party Goods had the perfect metallic foil fans that I paired with others I found at Party City. I hung them with invisible thread – it’s one of my best kept secrets for party styling – it never shows up in pictures, and unless you are looking for it, you don’t notice it, even up close . It was perfect for the borrowed shoji screen backdrop. (Thanks Amy!) Gold spray painted shelves from a garage sale were the perfect display for all the fun spa related items. Don’t be afraid to pull furniture from around your house when creating your look, there is no need to buy new when you can re-purpose what you already have! Labels were added to lip gloss. Nail polish, combs, make-up, brushes, wash cloths, & facemasks were all bought at local discount and dollar stores. I made sleep masks for each of the party guests from fabric found at Walmart. I’m lucky to be surrounded by lots of talented people, one of which makes custom soaps! (Thanks Leslie!) A little paint & glitter was all that was needed to create the pineapple spa print on canvas. As the guests arrived, the birthday girl was decked out in a gold bubble skirt that moved like liquid gold as she twirled, paired with an embroidered shirt by Stitch This.

The girls were outfitted in the cutest custom pajama pants by Kera of Stylish Tailor. Her creativity always shines through everything she creates. T-shirt transfers from Party On Designs were added to shirts from Walmart, tying the pineapple theme right into their pj’s. Sadies Stitchery created the beautiful monogramed robes for the girls, pulling the spa feel together perfectly. Chunky bracelets by Beck’s Custom Creations pulled all the colors together perfectly & popped against their pj’s. Princess Mirrors made the most adorable hand held mirrors that were the perfect way for the girls to check out their faces!

From custom paper dolls, to making their own coconut sugar scrub to be put into the little glass jars from Kate Aspen, the girls had plenty to keep them busy after their spa treatments. The cork topped jars worked perfectly to hold the scrub. We added gold glitter to the top of the cork stop-

per and a cute label by Anders Ruff. The gold glitter favor boxes held their nail polish, make up brushes, and hair ties.

Body wash was placed in the hinge topped jars. Michelle’s Party Plan It made the cutest gold fortune cookie boxes – but instead of a fortune, we put elastic hair ties in them for each girl.

The photo booth was a blast! Once they had all had their spa treatments, they loved being silly 8yr olds with all the fun props that Little Retreats created for us.

The dessert table had to sparkle. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow a CandyCrushEvents table cloth from Banner Events. Everyone loved it! Ten23 Designs made our gorgeous pineapple backdrop. Lollipics custom lollipops showed off the logo’s from Anders Ruff perfectly.

Sweets From Heaven’s sourbelt kabobs were fantastic with the pineapples on them. My go-to custom sugar cookie shop is Sweet Themes Bakery, in Kent Wa. Alison and her staff outdo themselves each and every time. The cookies for this party were gorgeous! I’ll admit, I’m a sweets snob – and their cookies not only look amazing, they taste fantastic too! Cake Pops, Pretzels, and Cookies stacks are always crowd favorites too. I had a blast creating the cake, cupcakes, fondant toppers, rice krispie treats, chocolate covered oreo’s, & macarons. We completed the sweets table with the birthday girls favorite candies in gold/pink/white colors.

I always tend to stress about the table settings, and ensuring the guests’ table looks just right. Partie Poupee always has the most beautiful table runners. I chose a black and white striped runner, and it totally tied in the other parts of the party to the guest table. The amazing tropical floral arrangements from Jessica of JNJ Floral were breathtaking.

If you can plan your parties well in advance, you can take advantage of holiday sales, and discounts. I did this for the place settings. I used plates from the Target Dollar Spot from their Valentines Day section, and the glittered silverware from their main Valentines Day dept. I topped them off with custom disposable plates from Create Ur Plate.

Lisa Frank Parties makes the cutest candy wands that completed the plate setting. I Have a Favor made custom cups for each of the girls that became keepsakes they could take home with them too. Gold frames from Kate Aspen with the girls names were gorgeous place cards. More amazing sugar cookies from Sweet Themes Bakery became the centerpiece of this table.

Squatles makes the most adorable felt friends for your kids.

The girls were all given a Squatles teddy bear with a pink pineapple sleeping bag. Most of the girls slept with them right next to them.

Breakfast the next day was fun. Fresh chocolate covered strawberries, layered yogurt cups, mini donuts, and mini pancake stacks w/coconut syrup were the buffet options.

Store bought juice put into fun bottles from Hobby Lobby showed off the drink options. Glass milk jars were garnished by dipping them in white chocolate & hot pink sprinkles ahead of time.

While after every party, I am utterly exhausted, but it is totally worth it. To see the smiles on all of the kids’ faces, and the joy and laughter in their voices, I’ll do it again and again!

Coconut Syrup Recipe by 4 Kids Cakes

Coconut Syrup Recipe: 1 (13 oz) can coconut milk 2 Tbsp. cornstarch 2 Cups light corn syrup ½ Cup white sugar 1 Tbsp. coconut flavoring Whisk together coconut milk and cornstarch in saucepan.

Add corn syrup & sugar, bring to a boil, stirring constantly. As soon as it starts to boil – remove from heat. Add coconut flavoring. Cool completely before serving.

ate Spade Inspired parties are very trendy right now, and with good reason! Bold black and white stripes with pops of vibrant colors are fantastic for so many party themes! This style can easily be replicated on a budget with minimal DIY skills needed too.

How to replicate this table top look.

Supplies: *D.I.Y. Black & White Striped Table Runner 16”x7’ You can make your own using white butcher block paper or craft paper rolls (available in the children’s art department of IKEA) and black tape. It’s a good idea to start with both sides, then the middle. Then space accordingly. Also, be sure your sides are not the same color as the base table cloth. *White table Linen (they can be rented from your local party rental for just a few dollars)* Chargers (They can be rented from your local party rental or purchased after seasonal sales from Michael’s, JoAnn’s, or Hobby Lobby) *Cupcake Stands different heights (they can be rented from your local party rental, or made with Dollar Store supplies) *Cups/cutlery,striped napkins (from your local party store) *Napkin rings from your local dollar store *2 Paper Lanterns (From your Michael’s store or online party stores) *Paper Straws,hats, striped & floral wrapping paper (from your local Target Start by covering your dessert and dining tables with a white table cloth.

For the dessert table, I added black polka dots to the front drape of the table cloth. Vinyl stickers are perfect. Another alternative would be to iron on black HTV dots to an inexpensive white sheet. I used bright floral gift boxes and bags to help balance the table. The back drop was made with vibrant fabric strip garland. I placed the cakes and cake pops on varied cake stands.

The dining table was a little more fancy with a floral rosette table cloth, but a simple white one would work too! I layered the DIY striped table runner on top of the table cloth.

Domed cupcake stands lined the middle of the table, but floral arrangements would look nice too! White plates were placed on top of white chargers, and topped with black and white napkins in rings. Sparkling pink beverages served in glasses with paper straws adds more pops of color to the black and white tablescape. Each place setting had a fun black birthday hat for guests to sign and wear for photo booth fun.

Kate Spade Inspired Po ol Party Hi, Jen Carver here of Banner Events, and I am thrilled to share the sophisticated soiree I styled for my daughter’s 10th birthday! Fashion and fun paired up for one fabulous fete in this Kate Spade inspired pool party! Entering double digits called for an extra fun celebration full of all the glitzy and girly details that preteen girls love. Sequins and glitter, polka dots and stripes, hot pink and gold--this party was full of stylish decorations, fashionable favors and delicious desserts. A Fresh Take Photography beautifully captured the enjoyment of this pool party with friends, inspired by Kate Spade.

I love building anticipation for an event by sending out creative invitations. Adria from Anders Ruff, designed an adorable Kate Spade inspired invitation and tied in our pool party theme. I love the stripes and gold glitter bow that provided the inspiration for the rest of the party decor.

To add that bit of unexpected fun for recipients, I packaged each invitation in its own square gift box filled with coordinating hot pink paper shred, from Nashville Wraps. I added a custom return address label designed by Adria and tied off each box with lovely striped ribbon (also from Nashville Wraps).

Prior to the party, we had fun decorating the pool deck.

When possible, I love transforming the party location to coordinate with the theme. I wanted this area to be festive and fun, but most importantly—functional! When water is involved, you have to be careful with the kinds of decorations used. I knew I needed something large that wouldn’t be dwarfed by the size of the indoor swimming pool space.

I turned to Lollipop Lights to create me 20” large marquee letters inspired by the fun color palette and theme. Her lights are battery operated, which was important so I didn’t have to compete with cords which could be a safety hazard near water (plus an eye sore). I just love how they turned out! We flanked the lights with two oversized round balloons and attached tissue tassel garland from GlamFete to each one to dress them up a bit. I wanted to add some color to the pool itself, so we filled it with affordable gold

and hot pink beach balls from Oriental Trading and cute black and white striped beach balls from 4Fun Parties. To bring in pops of color around the pool deck, we staged lounge areas with custom pillow covers from GreatStitch. com (stuffed with super inexpensive pillow forms from Ikea), more colorful beach balls, printable pennant garland from Anders Ruff ’s collection, a hot pink parasol (Via Blossom) and plenty of water bottles wrapped in custom labels for quenching guest’s thirst. Along with all of the décor, we also displayed darling striped beach totes from Discount Mugs. These bags full of fashion goodies would be the main party favor for guests. Each contained either a pink and white beach towel or cabana striped black and white towel with a gold spade monogram from Monogram Muse. I love including practical items as party favors that I know will be used time and time again. In addition to the towels, I wanted each girl to receive some pool party fashion essentials inspired by Kate Spade. I relied on my go-to packaging company, Nashville Wraps, for stylish boxes and tissue paper to wrap up gifts for each girl and accented each one with DIY 3-D bows from the Anders Ruff printable package. (They were such an easy DIY using gold glitter tape.) Inside each box was a gorgeous pool loungewear outfit for the girls to wear before and after swimming.

The outfit consisted of the most adorable black and white striped swimsuit cover-up dresses from GreatStitch.com, a coordinating hot pink hair bow and flip flops. To add in a little extra sparkle and glam, Anders Ruff created me earring and necklace cards, customized with Kaylee’s theme and colors. I found sweet little bow earrings at Forever 21 and commissioned the talented jewelry designer at The Copper Fox to make gold initial necklaces for each attendee. Each girl was able to choose her own favorite pair of heart sunglasses from The TomKat Studio. The girls absolutely loved donning their new outfits and accessories.

You’ll notice a handful of girls wearing coordinating striped and polka dotted swimsuits with a retro flair. Red Dolly Swim custom made suits to match our Kate Spade inspired theme. It’s hard to find cute swimming suits with a modest fit and stylish look. The girls loved them and had fun posing in front of the photo booth wall (step and repeat printed by Print My) and playing around the pool.

Once guests arrived, they excitedly pulled out the gift boxes from their beach totes and dressed for pre-swimming refreshments. I just love how cute they all looked in their dresses and accessories!

One of my favorite parts of styling any party is designing the dessert and dining tables. Using a homemade PVC pipe stand which I covered in striped fabric from Ikea, I created my dessert table backdrop. I added some 2” hand punched confetti inspired circles from gold glitter scrapbook paper and adhered them to my backdrop fabric. Anders Ruff created me a beautiful large format centerpiece sign, using the invitation as inspiration. I mounted it to recycled foam core board and hung it from fishing line. My tabletop was glammed up with a gorgeous gold sequin tablecloth from Candy Crush Events, topped off with a hot pink runner.

I love the look of tissue tassel garland and dressed up the front of the table with a black, white, gold and pink beauty from GlamFete. I used various black wood risers and a mix of my favorite gold, black and white cake stands, candy dishes and serving trays to display the beautiful confections created for the event.

The focal piece on the dessert table was a lovely three tiered cake by 4 Kids Cakes. It was kept elegant and simple with fondant confetti, a simple bowtie and heart and topped off with fresh flowers from JNJ Floral. Christina also baked up fresh cupcakes, each embellished with edible glittered balls and printable cupcake toppers. To keep with the sophisticated flair, Christina made pink macarons enhanced with gold. The girls thought it was fun to try something that is popular in Paris! Gold trays lined with coordinating patterned papers looked beautiful covered in gorgeous themed cookies by NatSweets. How darling is that striped swimsuit? Popcorn—one of my daughter’s favorite snacks—was served up in mini gold popcorn boxes. To dress them up, I layered party logos on blossom cups from Via Blossom and added sparkly gold acrylic bow sticks from Ten23 Designs to tie in the theme. A mix of preppy pool and fashion inspired cake pops by Vypassetti Cake Pops were a popular addition to the table. Mini desserts are trendy and perfect for a quick grab and go dessert. I enlisted the talents behind Green Mountain Mini Baked and Bella’s Bakery & Bowtique to work their magic in customizing some of their specialty treats to match our theme. Super cute mini baked donuts in party colors, accented with edible bows sat perched atop their own striped favor boxes (Nashville Wraps), as did custom mini chocolate covered Oreos with the sweetest edible spades and bows. I wanted to reinforce cute boutique style packaging that fashionable jewelry, clothing and accessories might be packaged in for customers. To complete the sweets, Bella’s Bakery also whipped up some scrumptious spade shaped chocolate dipped Rice

Krispy treats. I don’t need to tell you that the desserts were absolutely amazing and gone in a flash!

I wanted the girls to feel like they were dining in style and set up a glamorous table, complete with more sequin tablecloths from Candy Crush Events and striped table runners from Koyal Wholesale. I gussied up the chairs with white satin chair covers from Dawn’s and black satin chair sashes from Koyal Wholesale. Ten23 Designs created me a custom wood spade centerpiece which I affixed to the top of stacking boxes from Nashville Wraps that I spray painted in party colors. I added beautiful gold votive candle holders and mint julep cups (Koyal Wholesale) filled with lovely fresh flower arrangements from JNJ Floral. To add a little bit of custom detailing, Adria created Kate Spade inspired art prints describing my daughter’s characteristics which I framed for the table. Each place setting included an empty gable box accessorized with a party label and thank you tag. Guests were invited to fill these with their favorite treats after swimming for the car trip home. (Trust me when I say there was not a single treat left on the table when the party was over!)

I love adding some money saving DIY projects to my events, especially when they are easy to do! For this event, one of my favorite DIY details was making my own polka dot plates! I picked up black dishes from the dollar store and used white vinyl dots to create the look of a much more expensive version I had seen for purchase. I had Lauren of Ten23 Designs cut me white vinyl circles, gold spades and black number tens which I adhered to the center of the plate for a custom look. The plates took only minutes each to make, but added a fun detail to the table.

I also picked up inexpensive champagne flutes from the dollar store to spare any catastrophes with my real stemware.

To give these a Kate Spade inspired makeover, I topped straws (Via Blossom) with more DIY bows Adria included in the printable package. I love the look!

Across the room, a simpler table was styled to house some party essentials like beverages, plates, cups, utensils and napkins (from Via Blossom) for parents and siblings mingling at the party. While more a table for function and not the main refreshment table at the party, I still dressed this area up with printed bow and pennant banners, balloons and some theme coordinating extras! Guests loved grabbing mini candy bars and water bottles wrapped in custom wrappers and topped with darling bows. Also displayed on this table were cute chocolate bar clutches—a genius brainstorm that resulted when Adria and I were trying to find a new spin on a custom chocolate bar wrapper. I loved displaying them from the velvet jewelry holder.

My favorite part of this party? I didn’t have to plan any activities! The pool provided hours of fun entertainment, and I got to sit back and be a guest enjoying the smile on my daughter’s face as she celebrated with friends and family.

A big thank you to the McCombs family who opened up their home and pool and helped pull off such a special celebration for my daughter. Also, a heartfelt thank you to my sweet mom who was my right hand “man” serving as my assistant during party set-up. I think I’d like a Kate Spade inspired party for my next celebration!

I Love the 80’s

ife moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Which is why I decided to bust a move, get in the groove and have a totally rad party!

I wanted to take a girly tween and teen approach to the theme which is why I settled on pink, green, black and blue. Paint splatters and checkerboard were a MUST! Want to achieve the look I did? Here are some tips!

I found some cute checkerboard fabric at my local JoAnn’s Fabric that I just couldn’t pass, so I purchased some to use as a table cover. The paper fans that are on the front of the tablecloth I either made myself (search paper rosette tutorial on Pinterest) or purchased from Oriental Trading. I then used painters tape to attach a safety pin to the back of the

rosette. Once the pin was taped on, I pinned the rosettes to the table cloth. The cake stands were created with candlesticks and plastic chargers from Hobby Lobby. I designed all the printables, and they added the perfect finishing touches! Candy bar wrappers, milk bottle wrappers, straw flags, banners, and snack labels helped bring together the look I was going for. Slinkys and Rubix Cubes are something you can’t live without for an ’80’s Party! I purchased mine at my local Dollar Tree.

Paper lanterns in different colors are fun to scatter around the party table and add a “fun & funky” feel. The backdrop was made from a piece of poster board that I layered with different shapes, sizes and colors of scrapbook paper. Instead of purchasing a whole paper package try choosing your own papers from places that sell “open stock” paper.

Experiment with different levels by using boxes and hat boxes on the dessert table. The MOST important party detail, and I mean most important, is making sure you have different snacks and treats! You can go the DIY route and purchase things from the store/make things yourself...or you can use some of the AMAZING vendors that I did!

Sweets Indeed made the most yummy candy kabobs! They were so sour, tangy and delicious! I have worked with Katherine from Creating Awesomenessity several times when I am need of cookies and I am thrilled to say that she is wonderful! She is super nice and always hits my vision spot on! Katherine’s cookies are almost too pretty to eat! I always have a hard time eating them because I feel like I am ruining a masterpiece! Speaking of masterpiece’s, Autumn from Sparkling Sweets Boutique, made the cake pops, chocolate graham crackers, chocolate cassette tapes and boom box Rice Krispie Treats! I literally squealed when I received all the sweets! The Pac-Man cake pops were gnarly and the boom box Krispies were “like so totally awesome”! Not only was everything perfect, but so, so yummy! I hope I have inspired you to have your own “totally rad” celebration!

W

hen my son turned 10, we joked with him and told him he was done with birthday parties. So, as his 11th birthday came near, he believed we would just take a few of his friends to the movies and be done. However, unbeknownst to him, with the help of some fabulous party pros, I was orchestrating an awesome night of kart racing fun for him and a handful of friends.

It was a little out of my comfort zone to throw a surprise party away from home, but the employees at Tampa Bay Grand Prix were so accommodating, and the vendors I worked with for the party truly helped make my job so easy!

The party was on a Friday night, I was able to set up the party room several hours before the party, while my kids were in school. We told my son we had to pick up a teammate for baseball practice from his dad’s job, and we drove to the race track. Like any boy, he was super excited to check the place out. We walked him to the party room, telling him that his friend was in his Dad’s office in the back…then he saw the sign from Handmade Sunshine Boutique. It took a minute to process, but the look of shock and delight was so worth all the work! Soon after we arrived, his buddies arrived, and they all raced.

The party room was decorated with vintage race car decor in reds and blacks. The Chic Gal made fantastic paper rosettes, I used them for the backdrop above the table. Handmade Sunshine Boutique sent smaller cupcake pick size rosettes, straw flags, a banner, and thank you cards. I hung the banner on the front of the table, and put the rosettes in the cupcakes. Amazing race car cookies from LauraMegs Sweets were the hit of the party. One of the guests has severe food allergies, so we had allergy safe candy for him to munch on. We also had veggies and dip on the dining table. The cake came with the party package from the track, so I added a large cake topper from Handmade Sunshine to

the top.

I bought a racing graphic and uploaded it to my Cricut design software, and cut out heat transfer vinyl to make each guest a t-shirt. I packaged them in food boxes from Nashville Wraps, I added a little candy, including fun chocolate covered Oreos from Rosebud Chocolates to the boxes before I sealed them with red striped ticking ribbon (also from Nashville Wraps). I attached a tag from Handmade Sunshine to each box, and placed them on a high top table in the corner of the room. I used my old metal milk crate to stack them, and had a jar of giant Pixie Sticks for the kids too! I knew my niece wouldn’t be able to drive the go karts, and I knew she would be upset, so I looked for a small battery powered go kart online. I was THRILLED to find one for her, and I set it up next to the favor box table. She was able to drive it around the game area of the go kart track, and thought she was quite the hot shot!

At the end of the party the guests were given medals and trophies based on their race times, and the kids were so excited!

This was a fabulous birthday, and we all had so much fun surprising the birthday boy!

lanning a party can be easy when you choose a theme that your child is crazy about. When it came to planning my son’s first birthday party, his passion for cars and trucks made for an instant celebration. Mixing toys from his own collection with colorful printables from our shop, Katarina’s Paperie, I created a whimsical outdoor brunch for family and friends that celebrated his first loves and milestones.

We held the party at a historic home in Pennsylvania. The original stone walls, vintage windows and wooden doorways created a natural aesthetic that was beautiful in itself.

I organized the tables in a semi-circle around a road map rug. The rug was filled with Max’s favorite cars and trucks.

Since he couldn’t walk yet, he happily sat there and played in the middle of all of the guests during the party. This kept him front and center for the entire celebration.

For brunch, we created some of my favorite dishes including French toast roll-ups, breakfast pizza and fruit salad skewers. To stick with the cars and trucks theme, donuts became spare tires and bagels transformed into truck wheels.

The highlight of the dessert table was the Sundae Drive Bar or better known as ice cream sundaes. I also made stoplight brownies by frosting rectangular brownies with white icing and topping with red, yellow and green M & Ms. Oreo cookies became some more spare tires and I spiced up basic bakery cupcakes with red, yellow and green sanding sugars to fit the theme.

Of course, a first birthday party wouldn’t be complete without a smash cake. Unfortunately, Max wasn’t really interested in eating cake after a huge breakfast. Luckily, we grabbed a few rainbow sprinkles from the ice cream sundae bar and drizzled them on top. This at least gave him something to explore and play with!

For decorating, I used paper cut-outs of cars and trucks featured on the invitation to add more color around the space. Using more cut-outs, I also created a car and truck bunting by attaching them to a thick black ribbon. The decals and black ribbon were also used to adorn the centerpieces. I created road signs and attached them to wooden dowels to make centerpiece sticks. Colorful tissue paper filled glass vases to add a touch of color. Cars and trucks from our toy chest were scattered about the tables to keep all little hands busy. Max’s dump trucks even became serving vessels for smaller snacks and desserts. To make food safe, simply line with a napkin or plastic wrap. Then, fill with your favorite snacks.

At the end of the party, we sent all of our little guests home with “Wheels for the Road”. I filled 3” x 5” cello bags with two small race cars. I added our “Wheels for the Road” treat bag topper and created an easy favor all of your guests are sure to enjoy long after the party.

I loved creating this celebration for my son because it truly embraced everything he loves. It was truly a party that celebrated who he is and all of his first year milestones.

Train Party

y youngest son has always very specific ideas and details he wants included in his birthday celebrations‌ this year was no different. He wanted a train party. He wanted to ride a train at the party. He needed to have a candy station, rag fabric bunting, and trains for the kids to play with too. He was turning 8, he seemed too old for anything I could find online for party favors and decor. I reached out to my fabulous party friends and in just a short time, had everything I needed for his party!

Gretchen from Three Little Monkeys Studio sent me one of the very first things I ever pinned on Everyday Party Magazine’s Pinterest page, her amazing vintage train printable package. I wish I had had more time, I would have used everything in the package. Her attention to detail is spot on, and everyone loved the invitations, favor tags, and printable banner. This set has always been a favorite of mine, and I am so glad I was finally able to use it!

I decided to host the party at a local park that has a mini train track. I was able to rent the train for a small fee, and all the guests above the age of one could ride the train. The kids and parents had a blast! And the birthday boy was satisfied with the train ride. I reserved the train and station shelter for less than $200 for the afternoon, and it was well worth the money. A fun chalkboard sign from Urban Oasis Decor welcomed the guests. I ordered a custom Rail Road crossing hand stamp from Blush Printables to stamp on the guests hands too. The train provided wrist bands for the riders, but the stamp was way more fun! Both Lue and Jennifer are amazingly talented women and I cannot wait to work with them again. The station shelter is just a regular park shelter with train track access, so decorating was necessary! The picnic tables, like so many public park tables, were a little gross, so we ran to Walmart and bought twin size flat sheets to use as table cloths. We had 4 dining tables, one had a battery powered train and track on it. It is just a tiny bit larger than HO scale trains, but a lot more

affordable. The kids really enjoyed playing with the trains. The other tables had snacks in Ball Canning jars.

The dessert table was covered with a blue and white chevron table cloth I have had for years. I hung a fabric scrap backdrop from Pretti Mini above the table, and it was perfect! My son has it in his room now. Jennifer was fantastic to work with, and executed my vision perfectly! I used our vintage milk cooler to hold drinks for the party. I placed it on one end of the dessert table, and I used our vintage milk crate on the other end of the table to hold bags of chips. Of course one of the cakes was in the middle of the table. Unfortunately, I had to keep the cover on the cake for most of the party because of bees! And since I wasn’t at home, I didn’t have my pretty domed cake lids. We bought several footlong subs from Subway, per the birthday boy’s request, and had them cut into three inch sections. I wrapped each one in saran wrap before the party to keep them fresh. They were a big hit. I asked for the condi-

ments to be left off, and I used red berry boxes from Michael’s to hold them.

The favor table was set up next to the train boarding gate.

My wonderful husband made me the perfect candy box for the party using a wine box! (Look for a DIY for that on the blog soon) The birthday boy was thrilled! I filled it with gold candy gum, lollipops, gold nuggets, Hershey Kisses, and chocolate coal. The guests filled the cutest little luggage boxes from Kate Aspen with candy! We had cotton candy train smoke from Toast from the Host. Those were a hit with the kids and the adults! Each child was given a wooden train whistle with a tag from Three Little Monkeys Studio tied to it. I ordered them from Amazon, and they are half the size of typical wooden whistles, and about half as loud‌so maybe a blessing? We also had popcorn in berry boxes on the table with cute tags from Three Little Monkeys Studio.

Vintage Boxing Party G

rowing up, I used to love to hear stories of my Grandfather’s boxing days. He would always paint a vivid picture of his fight nights, and I could picture myself sitting ring side.

He would tell me how Larry, one of the original 3 Stooges, would come watch him fight!

He recently celebrated his 88th birthday, and I wanted to do something special to celebrate. I asked my Grandmother to borrow one of his old boxing posters that they had framed, and hanging in his office. I also wanted to know what his current favorite meal was. He loves In-N-Out Burger, so we made sure to have his favorite menu options for his birthday meal.

I wanted his boxing poster to be the main focal point of the party table. I framed the poster with black drapes, and a shimmery gold background.

I had some vintage boxing printables created especially for his special day. I loved the houndstooth background that showcased boxing gloves, and two fighters. The birthday banner was strung over the boxing poster, and really set the tone for his celebration.

I found some houndstooth fabric at JoAnn fabrics, and used it as my table cover.

I was unable to locate my Grandfather’s original boxing gloves, so I improvised, and purchased a new pair. My color options didn’t coordinate with my party decor & color, so I opted for a quick fix, and spray painted the red Everlast boxing gloves in a metallic gold, from Rustoleum. They turned out great, and really brought a special pop to the

I added a couple of his favorite snack foods: microwave popcorn, and candy apples! I also had some store bought cupcakes dressed up with some amazing boxing themed fondant toppers. The fondant golden gloves were my Grandfather’s favorite!

I decorated some paper party cups with black festooning, and added circle tags to the straws. I also set out black favor boxes, and added a square tag from the printable set. My Grandpa loved that he could fill up the box with treats, and eat them later that night. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with him, sang Happy Birthday, and reminisced about his boxing glory days. Truly a special day!

Vintage Ice Cream Sundae Party

t’s summer which means it’s the perfect time to throw an ice cream party and that is exactly what I did but with a little bit of a 50s inspired twist. I used some checkered fabric for my table cover and made my paper decorations using my Sizzix Big Shot and dies. I gave my guests two options in which to serve their ice cream, either in a ice cream glass or in cones. I placed my sundae centerpiece on top of my cake plate and I also used it to display the cones. The ice cream glasses were embellished with a Fab 50s retro tag. For my cupcakes, I added a straw and a paper cherry to make them look like “ice cream milkshakes” I think they turned out so cute. Now for the ice cream, here is a budget friendly tip I bought the huge party pail and just scooped some into a smaller container and just refilled as necessary. An ice cream party is a great hit and a fun way to kick off those summer parties!!!

I

wanted to do a Father’s Day party and I just happen to be talking to my sister and she mentioned a “Seafood Cookout”. I fell in love with the idea, jumped on it and there began the process of this set up. I thought of a play on the words for a boil and came up with “CrawDAD Cookout”.

Before researching design ideas I immediately thought, Newspaper, Kraft paper, Reds and Navy. I designed a Newspaper print that matched the theme that way it was throughout the entire feel. The photography was by the lovely, Megan Long Photography.

Coming into the party, guest walked through Shepard hooks and hanging from them were rope glass lanterns from Kate Aspen with sand and tea lights inside.

Dining table set up included monogrammed napkins made by Great Stitch and acted as everyone’s place settings. Inside each bucket was a bib, wet wipe, utensils with tiny vinyl crab & lobster decals by Classy Detailed Events, personalized Crab Mallets by J.O. Spices, and personalized Beer Koozies by Vinyl Eloquence. All of these were on each plate that Create UR Plate customized just for this party with our crab image. The table was also adorned with some items like blue vintage votives, white lanterns, melted butter dishes & spices by J.O. Spice.

With a Craw DAD Cookout you have to have crab, right?!

So here is a fun way to set up a table scape for your food and drinks. For the drinks, I decorated them with rope and used rugby striped straws from Kate Aspen. Also included on the table was a fun navy stripe Mason jar from Just add glitter by Marla.

Next to the food and drink table, I added a “Cleaning Station”. I created a printable sign, added some wash cloths

and lemons and lemon water for easy clean up of our hands.

Kids table was very similar to the adult table, but theirs had some fun elements like a Mini Crab Pinata and Candy wands made by Lisa Frank Parties. I made the tiny boats that held colored candies and gum. Vinyl decals on the drinks and galvanized buckets were by Classy Detailed Events.

Dessert table set up had lots of fun items for all ages. I wanted to stick with a similar theme so the desserts carried that throughout. I used these cute Beer and Corn on the Cob Cake Pops made by Stick a Cake in it.

Bella’s Bakery & Bowtique made the The Chocolate Covered Oreos had my custom newspaper print and a little chocolate crab on them. I also had cupcakes with a tiny chocolate crab added and placed inside striped baking cups from TomKat Studios. The yummy pretzel rods and super cute lobster pretzels were by Sugar & Spiked Inc. Auntie Bea’s Bakery made the Corn on the cob, beer, lemon and crab claw cookies and the kids enjoyed playing with the faux crab claws. I found small gable boxes and knew they would be perfect to hold my S’more kits. The red and white mason jar I used to for the flowers was made by Just add glitter by Marla. I added some texture by layering the table cloths and the adorable banner was

Glamping Party

Camping is the quintessential summer activity for many families. When I was a child, we would camp on my birthday each year, always somewhere different. My mom always made my birthday so magical. No matter where we were, somehow some way, a beautiful cake and presents would appear.

I was never very fond of camping on the ground; I never liked to get dirty. My parent’s camper was where I spent my camping nights. As my daughter’s eighth birthday approached this year, we started to think of a fun eight is great theme. My husband and son were preparing to attend a father-son camping trip, earlier in the year. As we talked about the upcoming trip, my daughter showed interest until she found out they would be sleeping on the ground and there would be no real restrooms. She then decided camping should be more “girlie” with beautiful tents and sleeping bags. Her idea of “roughing it” became more glamorous as we spoke. Thus came the Glamping theme for her party, Glamorous + Camping = Glamping! She was over the moon with excitement!

I reached out to several of my friends, in the party industry, to obtain the Glamping items we wanted for this very special glamorous eight year old birthday party. The first request, of many, was to have a slumber party. This was not a surprise to me as she had asked many times to have her girlfriends spend the night, over the last year or so. I found the perfect DIY a-frame tent and put my best prop guy in charge of that task, AKA my husband! Twelve tents later, yes twelve! We were ready for the party, or at least the tents were.

Once we had the theme, we now needed to design the paper elements to make it come to life, keeping in mind the colors my daughter had chosen. First up was the tent design. I knew it had to be something very girlie but different from all the other Glamping images out there. Should it be stripes, polka dots and hearts, since those are her favorites?

Well of course it should and it also should include a beautiful chandelier, after all, this is a Glamping party!

By March, we had completed the designs and had ordered and received her beautiful birthday tank top from the fabulous Kristina of Modern Frills. We have worked with Kristina on many occasions and love her birthday tanks!

When it was time for the invitations to go out, we hand delivered them, since the girls live so close. We always try to add an element of surprise with the invitations and this year was no different. We added a super adorable mini tent favor box that matched our designs, by Piggy Bank Parties. Each of the mini favor boxes held a mini s’mores kit {a mini Hershey’s chocolate bar with a decorative wrapper, two graham crackers and three mini marshmallows on a ribbon tied toothpick}. The girls giggled with excitement when they received their invitations and mini s’mores kit.

This set up, what was only to come!

One of my favorite elements of the party was an old camping stove I bought on Craigslist for $20. It was pretty dirty inside and out, but I saw a vision of beauty and glamour.

With a few hours of elbow grease, spray paint and glitter, I transformed it into the perfect centerpiece for the party and it looked just like I had imagined! No one could believe it once looked the way it had when I first bought it.

As the date of the party inched closer and closer, we received many more packages which held party essentials.

By the day, Isabella’s excitement grew! Lauren of Ten23 Designs/Custom Event Décor, created the perfect mini wooden chandeliers for each guest’s tent. We glittered them in the colors to match her party perfectly. Our sweet friend, Toni, of Creative Designs by Toni created our dessert table backdrop out of an old wooden pallet and added vinyl design images to match our party suite. The dessert table was filled with some fabulous goodies. Katherine of Creating Awesomenessity designed glitter tents, eye masks, chandeliers and match stick cookies! The girls were delighted when they saw these and they tasted so good too! Marie of Sweets Indeed made the most magical candy kabobs; these were scooped up almost as soon as the girls had arrived.

Keeping with the Glamping theme, we added bling around the daisy mason jar lids, our sweet adorable friend Jenny of Bloom Designs Online provided for us. Our super talented friend and photographer Kristin of KristeNicole Photography captured it all beautifully.

As you entered our house that evening, a large sign welcomed our guests and set up the theme inside. The long entry hall housed decorated empty white gable boxes, which would soon be filled with awesome goodies. The large living room was transformed into a “campground” which included a tent for each guest with a mini chandelier, eye mask and mini metal lantern to light the tent when the sun went down. As each girl arrived and entered the “campground” they squealed with delight! Our long white mantel was decorated with a beautiful ribbon banner, by our talented friend Bethany of Sweet Georgia Sweet, and held berry baskets from our friend Katie of Celebration Lane, each included a personalized water bottle by Toni of Creative Designs by Toni, mini flashlight, scavenger hunt card and a colored pencil.

Since the girls were spending the night, we knew we had to plan many activities. Roasting hot dogs in the outdoor fire pit, going on the scavenger hunt and making s’mores, were just a few. Each girl had their own personalized roasting fork, so it was easy to keep track of. As the evening wound down and cake and ice cream were served, the girls changed into their pajamas and grabbed their fabulous sleep masks

by Shauna of Cupcake with Character, to watch Disney’s Teen Beach Movie. Did I say winding down? Not so much with this movie! As each girl laid their tired heads on their pillow, they found a sweet little note card that read, “Sweet Dreams Glampers” with a mint attached. Because here at Camp Isabella, we care about our Glampers!

The following morning, breakfast was served; mini pancakes and waffles with whip cream and strawberries on top with several different types of beverages from flavored milk to raspberry orange juice. We cannot forget about the bacon on a stick because we were still “roughing it”.

The girls had a great time on their first “Glamping” trip and received many fun items to take home. They were ecstatic about taking their tents, chandeliers, berry baskets, mason jars, gumball tubes, cookies, personalized roasting fork, eye masks and mini lanterns! Whew, I’m exhausted just thinking back on it.

Miles Smiles

hen our son Miles was born, the first thing the doctor and nurses exclaimed was,“DIMPLES!!” His dimpled smile instantly captured our hearts. Over the first year of his life, our family went through a difficult time; my mom passed away from Pancreatic Cancer shortly after being diagnosed. During our time in the hospital and even after, Miles’ smile was an amazing source of comfort for everyone. One night in the hospital before she died, my mom and I decided a Smiley Face theme in turquoise and yellow would be perfect for his first birthday. I wanted to give it a fresh and modern twist to this traditional theme, so I decided to use some trendy details, like tissue confetti and chalkboard art to bring it up to date. The invitation was sent out in cake bags filled with confetti so guests could experience some festive happiness from the moment they touched their invitations.

As the guests walked up to the clubhouse, they were greeted by an oversized chalkboard print and balloons welcoming them to the party. Inside the clubhouse, a sign reading “Smiling Faces This Way” and a trail of bubbles from an automatic bubble blower led the way to our party space.

I filled clear balloons with paper confetti and glued confetti circles to a cut-out of the number one, which created a festive backdrop for the dessert table. I didn’t want to go overboard with the smiley faces, so I opted for a custom, laser-cut name topper on a plain white cake, which was the perfect way to keep the dessert table simple but cheerful.

The custom smiley face cookies paired well with the cake and were as delicious as they were beautiful. The cupcakes were decorated with laser-cut number ones and fondant smiley faces that matched the theme flawlessly. And because no dessert table is complete without candy, I added a pedestal of bright yellow Lemon Heads candy and turquoise swirl lollipops.

For the food table, I used a circle garland and a custom chalkboard birthday print as the backdrop. Since it was a

first birthday, we served baby treats including cheerios and goldfish crackers in individual paper cups. In addition, we served Caesar Salad, Fruit Summer Salad, Pizza, and Cuban Sandwiches.

The party tent was lined with a photo garland of Miles’ first year, featuring highlights of his “smilestone” moments.

Underneath the tent, the tables were decorated with bright flowers in vases hand-decorated by Miles’ big brother and sister. It’s one of our family traditions to let the siblings participate in the event décor to some capacity. The flowers were paired with chalkboard prints in white frames with our favorite happy quotes.

Guests enjoyed themselves cooling off in the pool, splashing in the fountains, and playing with their new smiley face beach balls. “Balls” was one of Miles’ first words,so we filled the space with bright yellow smiley face balls; a dream come true for him. When the happy guests needed a break from the water, they were all smiles at the photo booth. I made the backdrop with tissue paper and placed fun props nearby. At the end of the party, guests enjoyed individual ice cream cups.

Fun Party Tip: We used glitter duct tape to wrap the water bottles.

I

recently held and Americana themed birthday party for my daughter, Aubrey. She’s a 4th of July baby and I’ve always wanted to hold a vintage style Americana party for her! We had just moved to our ranch in Northern CA, and thought this would be the perfect first party at our new home.

The decor was minimal, we held it in our arena and I wanted to keep it simple and rustic to show the ranch’s beautiful nature.

The food was fun and festive! Everything was what you would expect from a traditional 4th of July party. Hotdogs, potato salad, watermelon, baked beans and a super fun layered red, white and blue punch. I’m a baker so the dessert table was front and center. Everything from All American Apple Pie to Patriotic Popcorn, Candy Sparklers and hand decorated 4th of July themed cookies. The kids went wild for all the goodies!

Since we live on a ranch, I didn’t really have to plan any games! The kids entertained themselves, running through steer chutes, roping steer dummies and having their own watermelon eating contests! It was really the perfect first hoorah in our new home!

e are super lucky to have the perfect view of our town’s amazing fireworks display right from own backyard! So every year we invite our friends and family over to celebrate and enjoy the fireworks with us. If you are from California like myself, then you know that we have limited options for the fireworks we can set off at home, so it really nice to be able to watch the big show from the comfort of our own backyard.

I created a simple dessert table with a vintage feel. I kept the desserts light and simple because let’s face it, by the time we get to dessert we have already been eating non stop for at least 4 hours! A simple cake, cupcakes, mini donuts because if you know me at all you know that donuts are my kryptonite, and what forth of July is complete without apple pie. For a little pop of color, and an excuse to buy that fabulous drink dispenser, I made a fruit punch.

Of course you can’t invite people over to sit and watch fireworks without providing them with a place sit. I had a crate with pillows and blankets to throw down on the lawn, and my friend made the chalkboard sign for me. Isn’t her writing to die for?!?!?!

There is nothing better than gathering with family and friends and celebrating this amazing country that we live in! HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

F loral Baby Shower

have the pleasure of including in this issue the pictures from a “different” experience as an event designer--being the guest of honor! For the first time, my friends {bravely} stepped into my shoes to plan a baby shower to celebrate the impending arrival of our new little girl. And I couldn’t have been more happy with the results. They not only dealt with me throughout planning, they created a gorgeous and special event that I will always remember.

The theme of the shower was a modern black and white stripe with florals, which was carried throughout using paper goods and decor. The other colors included were varying shades of pink, peach, and aqua with subtle touches of gold.

Using simple white linens and aqua napkins, the tables were adorned with custom menu cards and one of my most favorite parts of the shower: amazing floral displays created by one of my close friends. Her designs were placed in varying forms of milk glass, and created an elegant but casual feel to the tables. Place cards were actually the guest favors, individual potted mini roses that were placed in kraft paper boxes crafted on a die cutting machine, with a custom sticker and tag tied to a black and white straw. Upon arriving, each guest was given a mimosa with custom paper straw tags that said “Baby” and “It’s a Girl.”

Since I also have an eight year old daughter, she was also a guest of honor. She had her own table where she and her friends sat. At each place setting was a kraft paper gift bag decorated to match the shower that contained activities for the girls. My daughter was so excited to have her own little shower and it was easily her favorite part of the day.

I think it was the part we had the most fun putting together.

All of my friends were able to see the process behind my planning dessert tables, and although they probably think I am crazy, they really did an awesome job. Black and white striped fabric served as a simple backdrop, with a custom “Baby” sign, paper garland, and DIY confetti balloons anchored in milk glass vases. A gorgeous cake decorated with more fresh flowers (I couldn’t get enough of those peonies) was placed on a vintage milk glass cake stand as a gorgeous centerpiece. Other desserts included were: french macarons, custom sugar cookies, DIY chocolate covered oreos, coconut tea cakes with chocolate roses, italian wafer cookies, lady locks, and cannoli bites. Guests were also provided with take-home bags (brown paper lunch bags with custom stickers) to gather cookies for the ride home.

I am so thankful for all of the hard work that my friends put into such a lovely shower, and I hope everyone enjoys looking at the photos.

o celebrate baby clothing line Sammy & Nat’s {S&N} 1st birthday, we hosted a shower for Lexi & baby Chase. To keep all things {S&N} we stuck strictly to the line for inspiration. The all white pallet with a splash of black was soothing to work with. Allowing for the complimentary peeks of color to stand out in addition to the colors of the printables by Nellie Design and paper accessories from JenT by Design.

Sammy & Nat is a prima cotton baby clothing line which thrives on its values of being 100% authentic.

For Lexi & baby Chase’s shower, we did exactly the same thing. Keeping mind that the small intimate gathering was perfect to highlight the uniqueness of the baby clothing. Starting with the sweets table. The tassel + balloon backdrop drew all eyes in that direction. Made by Stephanie Shives Studio, they added great height and creative detail. Then, the fondant top-

pers by 4 Kids Cakes on the cupcakes in stripe baking cups {found at Hoopla Events Etsy shop} were handmade with Lexi’s favorite filling inside. Next, the memory game and drink station paper items {also by JenT by Design} fit with the overall feel of the shower. The table decor showcased a fun white on white framed 8x10 print, surrounded by simple white floral arrangements in square plastic jars {found at Celebration Lane} and coordinating milestone stickers for the onesies by Painting Paris Pink. The chair backs were garnished with pompom clothes line garland by Keisha Sibert.

While playing a laid back game, the guests were able to enjoy a variety of beverages from the drink station, followed by a simple salad and champagne lunch. While

some sipped champagne from their birch paper straws {found at Celebration Lane} other enjoyed a yummy frappachino out of plastic cups with lid from the TomKat Studio + custom paper sleeves by JenT bu Design.

Each guest left with a personalized menu/keepsake card and crushed flavored rock candy in clear tubes. It was such a pleasure to style Sammy & Nat’s 1st birthday celebration.

hen a wedding stationary designer’s daughter turns one, the planning for this fabulous “Yay ONE!” themed party is going to be over the top fun and amazing!

Illiah of Two Twenty-Two design had a vision for a beautifully decorated and bright celebration with sophisticated decorations. The party palette was full of gorgeous pinks, corals and gold with a generous sprinkling of pineapples!

We wanted the decorations to be enjoyable for grown ups, while having the functionality needed for a child’s party.

Celebrating a child’s first birthday, in a way, is like celebrating the mom as well. It’s a milestone in her life that she won’t ever forget! For this party, we wanted to highlight mom and baby together (and a little of big sister as well)!

We got a chance to pamper mom and celebrate baby, and it was perfect!

The Vintage chalkboard (from XOXO Vintage Rental) was decorated by the fabulous calligrapher at Just Write Studio.

She is so incredibly talented and translated V’s one year characteristics beautifully! La Cakerie made us a stunning ombre vegan cake to accommodate V’s allergy. Two Twenty-Two Design created all of the festive paper goods and the pineapple canvas birthday “guestbook” where all the guests left their thumb print as their proof of attendance and having a blast!

Big Hero 6 BirthdayParty Every year, I have such a hard time convincing my son to have a non-character party, and this year was no exception. Big Hero 6 is popular with both of my kids, and he asked for nothing else for this 7th birthday party.

I scaled back our party a little bit this year, but by making simple and creative choices to use for decorations and food items, I tried to achieve a cute and affordable party that will appeal to all moms facing a Baymax party in their future.

The biggest project for my kids’ parties is always the dessert table--it’s their favorite part and they love getting involved! I used a collection of lanterns that I’ve been holding on to for a quick and easy backdrop. The centerpiece was a 3-tier cake designed to match the theme of the movie and paper goods. The “scale back” part of the cake? My son wanted a big cake, but with a smaller guest list, it didn’t make sense. The top and bottom of the cake are inexpensive cake forms covered with fondant, and the middle tier is the actual cake. I also made a batch of cupcakes that I dipped in sprinkles and topped with mini Baymax face sugar cookies. A major part of Keaton’s request was “lots of candy.” I used inexpensive containers from Amazon to hold candy that matched each of the main character’s Hero personas, as well as test tubes that were filled with an assortment of small candies. Also included were sugar cookies designed to look like the pain scale emojis from the movie, candy sushi (another birthday boy request), and mini donuts (store bought, dipped in nonpareils). To serve cake and accompany the desserts, I ordered awesome plates from Create Ur Plate. Everyone thought they were a really nice addition and I loved that I could design them to match the party!

The other project Keaton and I worked on were the takehome favors for the kids invited. Take out boxes from Michaels were a quick solution to match the theme, to which I attached custom stickers to match the party. Inside the boxes, there was large Swedish fish, directions to make an origami Baymax and a Sanfransokyo postcard (both downloaded from the internet), lollipops (the kind you get from doctor offices), and an inexpensive First Aid kit from the travel section at Target that was also customized with a sticker. The kids loved them!

Even with a “scaled back� party, using the dessert table and favors as a way to focus on what Keaton wanted worked our perfectly. He was able to help, and I saved a ton of prep time. Look for the party goods coming soon to DIY Modern Hostess!
