hat a year! EMG is constantly finding, training and successfully placing amazing models and talent worldwide. EM Magazine has some new and wonderful columnists. And I’m in the process of managing all of it at the same time as moving house, looking after two children (three if you count the 46 year old). Juggling the career life thing never gets any less manic. But it never fails to keep me feeling alive and full of purpose. And also really old, tired and longing for retirement - jokes! During the house move I came across a number of old photographs. Some immediately hit the shredder (honestly WHAT was I thinking?). But some way back when press clippings that make me look back and think, oh actually yes, I did that! It was hard work and I put 110% into all of it. I’ve got the grey hair and wrinkles to prove it! We say this time and time again here at EMG, but to cut it in any industry, especially one as competitive as this, you have to give everything to it. That means dropping your personal plans and putting your career first. No excuses! Yes that can be really tough, but if you don’t, someone else will gladly take your place. Harsh, but that is the way it is. Do you want to look back in ten years from now and regret not taking an opportunity that could have created your own success and achievement? Wisdom can often come all too late, as regrettably we are not actually born with it. Listen to the people who care about you, and the experts in the field in which you work. If I had my time again... We have a packed edition of EM Magazine for you this Winter. Interviews, industry related features, our eagerly awaited gift and goody pages, model updates and future opportunities. Read about some of our very own models and talent along with views and advice from top casting directors, bloggers and industry influencers. We wish you a very happy, merry and relaxing Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Ask the CASTING DIRECTOR Ruthie Deane catches up
with Mark Summers to talk
casting, discipline, reality and MAKING IT HAPPEN!
Follow Mark on Instagram! Mark Summers Casting is a well respected who looks after actors, dancers and choreographers, organisation of over twenty years. Remind us mainly for commercials. We are a very a visual agency. We also run a very well established dance agency how you first came to be a casting director? So I was a child actor which has always been something I wanted to do from a young age. I remember seeing things like Janet Jackson‘s Rhythm Nation and I knew I wanted to work with these kind of people. So I became a director as I was totally fascinated with all that goes on behind the scenes. I came across phenomenal directors such as Tony Kaye and Jo Pytker and started working with them. I knocked on doors. I worked hard and the rest is history.
Mark Summers is also a management agency. Tell us a bit how that works and how someone might apply to be represented by you? The agency is separate from me as a casting director. We are a brand and have a management division run by Sarah EM 4
looking after some of the biggest choreographers in the world. We have provided dancers and actors of all different ages and we are known as the leading dance agency in the UK which is known all over the world. We have cast various roles and worked on feature films such as Sean of the Dead and Human Fury.
How do you feel about Brexit and any impact this has had on the industry? Stop the panic and let’s get on and make business happen. I think at first it was all a bit of a mad panic, but I say be positive, don’t rest on your laurels and get on with it! I’ve been bringing huge volumes of work to the UK and will carry on with that. Budget restraints do see many people opting to shoot all over the world. There is a lot of casting currently in Spain, Portugal and Prague. Who knows who will be the next London?
In England though we are so lucky to have every single type of person right here. We have continued being proactive and worked really hard in a positive way. You have to make it happen. The key to surviving is networking. I would advise every single model and talented artist to grab every opportunity they can, use your wit and be on it.
What advice would you give to someone attending their first ever casting as an actor or dancer for a televised commercial? Be on time, prepare and be open.
Can you offer any advice to parents bringing We see your amazing casting calls on a regular children to castings? basis. You have some incredible ones by the way. What would consider to be the one stand out Parents need to understand you can’t choose when you project of your career so far you have cast for? take them to a casting. You must have a network around That question is so hard. As a creative person I like projects on the spur of the moment and there are so many of them. Maybe I haven’t even done it yet? In the last 6 months I have loved working on the Jo Malone campaign for Christmas that I have just cast for. I was also really inspired by the Pearson Teacher’s campaign including a 16 year old girl who couldn’t read or write who with the help of her teacher passed all her exams in two years and now runs a national power company. We also did a beautiful photographic campaign for Sainsbury’s back to school with a lovely fresh approach. Another one we were asked by Esso to cast for included 200 boxers for a commercial. The choreographed result is just spectacular even if it has been banned from certain countries!
you so that kids can always get to casting, no matter what your plans are. It’s tough and you have to be committed. Also remember that it is not your dream, it’s their dream. If a kid doesn’t want to do it then they shouldn’t be in the industry as they won’t ever get cast. Understand as a parent you are being watched and interviewed just as much as your child. Without you your child can’t do it so don’t be an annoying parent! If you need advice speak to other parents, get educated and stay informed. A casting is not a playgroup, it’s an interview! One thing that really annoys me is when a parent says - she will be OK on set - an audition is about delivering right here and right now. When they’ve got it they’ve got it. If they haven’t got what it takes that’s it. Disciplined dedication will lead to success.
With such a busy and International career, do you You have worked with some HUGE names all over get time to relax? If so where and how is your the world. Please indulge us a little and name drop ultimate? a few. Pretty please?! Darren Aronofsky who directed Black Swan who I have loved working with this year. Over the years we’ve worked with the likes of Shakira, Whitney, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Metallica, George Michael. The list is just too long really. What would you say is the ultimate NO NO at a casting? There are so many NOs. The first is, never forget that its a job interview. Quirks are fine, but you are being watched in exactly the same way as any other job interview.
I love to get on a plane and travel. I’ve recently been hiking and walking my dog. Doing normal things I find relaxing, like cooking and cleaning.
What's on the agenda for Mark Summers in 2018? We seem to be working with our international partners a lot and adapting to the needs of the market. There are a load of cool things coming up but I can’t really talk about them yet. That’s the nature of the business. That’s what NDAs are for, which is 100% a future article Ruth!
Fitbit - Still got it!

It’s that time of year again! My favourite being filled with love, family, joy and FOOD! Yes, Christmas can be an indulgent time for most of us. I have fallen in to the trap of “It’s once a year let’s stuff in as much as possible!” and then I end up feeling sick the rest of the day and the next! Remember, moderation is everything. I have been listening to my body a lot more recently and found the art of intuitive eating. It’s been hard to learn as I have some bad habits such as I eat way too fast and I until I feel stuffed! Especially when I’m really enjoying something I just won’t stop! But believe it or not our bodies are telling us when we are full and when we can stop. Last Christmas I took the pressure off myself. I didn’t feel like I had to eat everything that was presented or laid out on the kitchen counter and the little sweets and cakes on the coffee table.
I ate what I wanted. I didn’t over indulge and it meant I enjoyed the things I did have a lot more. Plus I wasn’t curled up with a sore stomach at the end of the night. So, enjoy the deliciousness of Christmas. If you feel like you have room for a 2nd pudding go for it. But remember to listen to your body. Another good thing about Christmas? Parties! I know it can be a pain to find the perfect outfit but we have a lot more options now. SimplyBe.co.uk and Very. co.uk are smashing it right now. Providing affordable fashion for us curvy ladies. (Plus, with Very you can split the cost and pay over 3 months interest free.) From jumpsuits to dresses you’ll find something that you will love. Make sure you follow me on Instagram - @CurvyLiving as I’ll be sharing my #OOTD’s and tips on styling during the Winter season for a curvy figure. If you hate shopping bring a fun friend or ask for help in store. You want to find something that flatters but you also want to find something that YOU love! You want to look in the mirror and say “yes! I think I look really good!” Because that’s all that matters – what you think of yourself. Inner confidence shines from within, walk with confidence and believe you are a goddess! Because honey…you are! Have a fabulous Christmas and embrace the amazing body you have! Lots of love,

The EM Magazine competition WINNER is....
ATLANTA Photography by Ruthie Deane

uring 2017 EM Magazine has been running a model and talent competition across the UK. Via a number of platforms we have received thousands of entries from aspiring models, actors and talented individuals. Our judging panel selected eleven year old Atlanta as this year’s overall winner and as part of her prize was invited to attend a photo shoot with EM Magazine. Alanta is already 5’4” tall at just eleven years of age and began year 7 in September 2017. Born in Guildford her hobbies include horse riding, sea cadets and trampolining. Atlanta says of her win, “I did not think I would win the competition and I am very pleased to be selected. I really enjoyed the photo shoot, it was really fun I got to meet two miniature shetlands which were so cute. Thank you, I had a great time.” Atlanta will receive the images from her photo shoot along with appearing in this edition of EM Magazine. EM 11

Loyalty Equals Popularity The basics of business stem from customer satisfaction and network growth. With the fast transition of our virtual world, our wealth is now created through the interconnectivity of the Internet and progressive use of technology. Staying up-to-date with technology to keep your business vibrant and growing is essential. As a mum of two under two with a small business in the photography sector, the days of

attending last minute networking events in hope of securing a new contact are gone for me. I now rely on a combination of my established relationships and social media for meeting new connections to develop my business. The question is whether the virtual world of communication has eradicated the value of face-to-face networking? Social Networking Disadvantages Social networking sites cleverly track your most commonly searched profiles and genres to share similar content with you. This content is deciphered via popular hashtags, largest number of content views and promoted posts. Whilst this is helpful, it also alienates a large proportion of a worldwide network, plus creates a herd affect whereby we follow what is deemed to be popular, rather than actual talent. On the contrary, face-to-face networking allows a business
to share their talent without competing against someone who is less experienced and talented, but nonetheless considered a stronger competitor because they have a larger social following. Advertising Budgets The option to advertise content on social media is easier than ever before. Whilst this is a great way for a business to expand their audience and post engagement, small companies with minima or no advertising budgets are at a disadvantage to those who can afford to pay. Therefore, they become reliant on wordof-mouth recommendations or customer/ client online posts to increase their social presence. Industry Relative The benefit of virtual networking over face-to-face relationship building is arguably industry relative. For example, e-commerce businesses are reliant on virtual relationships and can do business without meeting, whereas those in a financial sector would be very unlikely to sign a trade without meeting clients face-to-face. It’s safe to say, a brand is worthless if it doesn’t connect with the right audiences in a relevant way. Social Networking Tactics Your understanding of social networking will affect your online presence. There are social media workshops set-up so people can learn how to use the platforms to grow a business using social media but some still have neither the time or technical understanding that’s needed to expand their online persona. This puts businesses at a distinct disadvantage. Unrealistic Expectations It’s believed social networking creates an unrealistic ideal. This can be disadvantageous to
growing business relationships if our perception about an online persona does not live up to expectation when meeting that person in ‘real-life’. Likewise, we can miss out on opportunities simply by giving off the wrong impression on our profiles. Content Sharing The content we share reflects us. It can be very difficult to know what content to share when establishing a presence- I’ve found this particularly with my photography. For example, I want to show my versatility as a photographer but struggle to know which images to share, and how often. On the other hand, I find meeting the client face-toface makes things far easier as you get an understanding about the style of photos they like, and most importantly can create a rapport, which ultimately seals the deal. Social Networking Advantages Arguably one of, if not the biggest benefit of social media, is the opportunity to advertise for free on a global platform, whilst also meeting like-minded people outside of your reachable network. It offers Mums like myself an opportunity to still launch a successful business without having to travel or spend large amounts on advertising. Online Popularity Equals Money A large social media following is hugely influential and if used properly can create great financial opportunities. The industry of ‘Influencers’ is a fast-growing network of individuals who have large online presences and use their followings to generate significant incomes purely because they can advertise to a large global network. On this basis, increasing your understanding of social media and how to
establish an online presence will benefit you and your business significantly moving forward. Cuts Costs Overhead costs affect company profit. Virtual networking can potentially create more admin but will equally cut entertainment and travel costs significantly, plus offer a far cheaper, yet still effective alternative form of global advertising. Face-to-Face Disadvantages Face-to-face networking relies on personality, likability and the ability to sell yourself. If you wish you were born with ‘the gift of the gab’, you’re not alone. Those who are confident with meeting new people and talking face-toface are at distinct advantage over those who struggle. In this instance, social media is preferable as it allows your keyboard to do the talking. Keeping Up Appearances Although there has been a significant shift in mentality, I’m still not convinced the human eye will ever stop ‘judging a book by its cover’. I believe appearances make an impact, and in person, if your look doesn’t fit the bill, neither do you. However, social media allows us to conform to ideals by creating a relevant version of ourselves. Time Effective Networking events require time and money, and it’s really deflating to walk away from an expensive business lunch not gaining anything from it. Social media is a 24/7 portal, which enables us to network around our own schedules for free.
access the town. Your location will affect face-to-face networking as it entails travel costs and requires time spent that you may not have. Social media however, is instant, free and doesn’t require travel. Face to Face Advantages Arguably the most established relationships are those created face-to-face. Putting a face to a name enables you to get closer to who that person really is, rather than relying on a created social media version. Loyalty & Trust For me, to find someone who is loyal and that I can trust in business is worth more than a million followers. Social media interaction demonstrates an interest in eachother’s lives outside of the business world, but working together face-to-face creates a team ethic, whereby you can help develop eachother’s careers, even offering introductions to eachother’s contacts. Old Skool Professionals The Millennial generation will never know a world outside of social media but everyone before will. It’s important not to alienate this sector- amongst them are some of the most wealthiest, successful individuals whose business knowledge can hugely benefit us all.
Conclusion In conclusion, though the virtual World has massively impacted our lives across the spectrum, I do not believe it has yet replaced the human need for physical interaction, and the sort of loyalty, trust and respect, which can only be established faceto-face. I believe relationships Location, Location, Location built and maintained on those The house wife located in a values will offer more longInstagram daniellebymadeup remote village is at disadvantage term benefits regardless of to she who is able to quickly social media popularity.

AN
ENGLISH GIRL IN
NEW YORK words by Frankie Spooner Photography by Nick Starichenko, NYC
As I landed in New York I was full of anticipation and excitement to get started. I wanted to experience as much of the city as I could whilst being able to work hard and evolve as a model. However, the first couple of weeks were a little slow and could have been rather disheartening, but instead of viewing them as a negative I used the free time to roam freely around the city without any time constraints or commitments. Due to this, I began to fall in love with New York. I loved the buzz, the unrelenting sun, the cheesy American accent, I even began to like the infamous rudeness all New Yorkers seem to have. I guessed it must have evolved from an arrogance of living in the self proclaimed, best city in the world, which highlights quite how in love with New York I was if I was even beginning to shed light on people’s blatant rudeness. I also took this time to meet with some of the girls from the agency. I met up mostly with girls from the curve division. What I found most interesting was that almost all of them were passionate about promoting a positive body

image online. Or if they weren’t passionate about it they still wanted to spread a positive message online, whatever that may have been, which I found very telling of the messages the industry has given to them. Almost all accounts that are promoting something are because the account holder, in my opinion, feels like they would have appreciated the message they are spreading at one point in their life. For example, Iskra Lawrence promotes no retouching and no photoshop, because she used to compare her natural self to the final products of the phtographers edits of her. This became damaging to her self esteem and as a result, created an online account where she vowed to never upload edited or retouched pictures of herself. This is why I kept my social media as real as I possibly could. When I went on a couple of shoots in New York I made sure I uploaded a picture of the shoot and then a picture of me with no make up and no retouching, so as to not promote an edited version of myself. I did this because I often compared myself to other models online who only uploaded edited pictures of themselves. Ultimately, this ended up with me comparing myself to edited versions of people. This comparison only led to low self esteem because no one is perfectly edited all the time, so the comparison is pointless and the ‘goal’ to look that way is unobtainable. So I made sure I kept my Instagram page as real as I could, whilst keeping it fun and informing my followers of what I was doing in New York! If you follow me on Instagram you will know that we shot one designer on the top of a penthouse which was amazing as we could see the Empire State Buidling from the roof. I also got the chance to visit the beautiful Fire island. It was a train, bus and a ferry away from the city and inhabits some of the most beautiful scenery as there are no roads, just stretches of greenery and white sandy beaches. It was absolutely boiling but I was shooting for winter so had to wear coats, scarves and gilets all day so you can imagine the sweat. It was still so much fun though, I wanted to stay on after the shoot! But unfortunately my train ticket was returning that day. When I am next New York I will definitely be visiting there again and hopefully all the lovely girls I met out and about in the city. Until next time New York!

of TALENT
Follo on In w Kate stagr am!
If you’re a mum who boasts a list of talents including, music, acting and modelling, then your son has to be pretty cool right? RIGHT! Mother of son Dani talks to us about her achievements, her life and her future. Welcome to team EMG! How are you and in fact where are you at the moment? Hi EMG, currently sipping coconut water in my garden and feeling fabulous in Incredible India! So do you split your time between the UK and India? I feel I have always been a gypsy at heart and traveling is my thing, I love exploration, it’s enriching for the soul and senses! It truly makes you richer in knowledge too...! Yes we split the time and always hopping back and forth. What acting training have you had? I have a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts but the best training I got was from my old boss, ‘Death Wish’ Film Director Michael Winner. I learnt a lot from him! Sadly he is no longer here but I have some great memories of my time spent as his assistant, I was the actress in his Esure Car Insurance Commercials and I was blessed to meet the people I did through him including Roger Moore, Michael Caine and John
Cleese. I also gained experience behind the camera which I really enjoyed and would like to explore that side a bit more maybe one day. What productions have you been cast for and which one stands out as being your favourite so far? I would say shooting on Green Screen for ‘Ciro’ E-Cigarettes TVC as I was a scientist on a spaceship so that was cool! Always been a fan of Star Trek so it was similar and so much fun we had on set, great production company called Carbon Digital run by husband and wife team Paul and Sue McHugh. Your gorgeous son Dani is also now part of the EMG team. How cute is he? Do you think having a talented mum and dad has always meant a future for him in the limelight? Dani is My Darling! I hope his future will be whatever makes him most happy with no pressure. Of course he absolutely loves being in front of the camera and making people laugh. Coming from thespian parents it comes quite naturally to him. EM 29
Dani & Kate EM 30
Dani’s father is Indian Bollywood Singer/Actor Lucky Ali and his Grandfather is Bollywood’s beloved comedian and film actor ‘Mehmood’. Dani is quite driven by the legacy of his grandfather and is quite the natural in all things showbiz. You are also a musician. Tell us a little about that? Music is in my Blood, in the 60s my father Peter Hallam was a very talented guitarist and his father was a Saxophonist in a Big Band, it goes through the ancestry. I was a keyboard player in a ShowBand at age 14 travelling around England. My dad and brother were in the same band and it was fun being on the road in a 6-piece band performing for a variety of crowds and seeing the audience enjoying our shows. Music makes me so happy. I also play bass guitar with ‘The Barberians’ Most recently I was fortunate to perform on stage at The Royal Albert Hall playing lead guitar with The Beach Boys, that was a real honour. Dani came up onto the stage with me as Mike Love invited Dani to come and dance as he watched me perform, he enjoyed the fun. I’m so happy Dani got to be on such an iconic stage at his age with his mummy and of course one of the most famous bands in the world.
things come to “ Good those who believe.
Better things come to those who are patient. And the best things come to those who don’t give up!
”
What are your aspirations for the future? To enjoy the journey of my career in acting, not take life too seriously and be excited for what is to come and where it will take me next. I absolutely love what I do and you never know what you can be auditioning or shooting for next. What advice would you give to aspiring talented people who want to give the industry their best shot? To be grounded, take it all in your stride.Enjoy yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Don’t be in too much of a hurry, it’s a journey. Persistence is key, if you truly want it and it’s in your blood then go for it! Where are you spending this Christmas? I haven’t planned that just yet although I do like Christmas to be in a cold country with the tree up and the mulled wine and snow! Most importantly with family! Most likely England. Final words of wisdom from you Kate... EM 31

League Table look like?
W
e have many compartments to our lives such as career, purpose, romance, family and for some of us we make compartments of alcohol, drugs, food and the like. Some years ago, I decided to score my compartments and then I put

them into a league table. I gave the top place to the compartment I was giving most of my power to. As you can see I was in the relegation zone and clearly this league was being managed by the Pessimist, the side of the brain that does not always care for my well-

here I am, number one and if I look after number one, number two equally divided, will look after everything else. being. This table spoke volumes to me and told me I was running my life predominantly from a fearful place. For the first time I saw how unmanageable my life had become and how I was neglecting the most important compartment, that being me. I could see what I didn’t want and when this happens it means I can make room to learn what I do want. Today I aim to co-create a table managed by the optimist. The optimist table considers me as priority, the optimist manages from a place of love. My aim is to increase the presence of the optimist and reduce the presence of the pessimist who in fact is never present, he manages based on thoughts and feelings from the past and projection into the future. I believe being human means the pessimist will never be totally absent. I need the contrast from time to time to grow and launch new desires. We never reach the best, there is always more to desire and manifest. Here, I am number one and if I look after number one, number two equally divided, will look after everything else. I don’t believe everyone is as extreme or unhealthy in all areas, my Pessimist table just highlights
the dangers and risks and what can happen when we do not attend to our own needs. Without awareness we can be living a life that to the outside world looks functional but inside are we really caring about how we feel? These days I do care about how I feel, do you? I want to feel happy, joyous and free. Ask yourself honestly does your league table look a little closer to that managed by the pessimist or the optimist? Is it the way you want it to be? Are you satisfied or are you selling yourself short? Once I admitted I didn’t want to sit at the bottom of the pessimist table anymore and I wanted to hand more of my power to the optimist things started to change. That was a great day and whilst it took time for my feelings to change they did. This is a life time commitment, one day at a time and I am having such fun. I won’t pretend the Pessimist doesn’t visit from time to time but I have learnt to outwit him and continue to improve. If you would like to know more and how you can create more optimist presence for 2018, visit my Website www.theoptimists.co.uk or Facebook page www.facebook. com/theoptimistlifecoach/

EM MAG TALKS TO CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPIST FIONA LAMB ABOUT HER LIFE, CAREER AND WHETHER WE CAN ALL BENEFIT FROM THis WELL KNOWN THERAPY
Hi Fiona. So tell us a bit about how you got into hypnotherapy. I got into hypnotherapy years ago when I had it myself for anxiety and it was the only thing that worked for me. I wanted to learn why and the power of the unconscious fascinated me. I became a total geek and learnt everything I could. I never thought I’d be doing it as a career but everything since has snowballed. You’ve appeared in a number of magazines. Which two would you say are your all time favourites. My favourite was Tatler. A bit of a pinch me moment being reviewed by them. Also a great way for clients to gain trust in what you do and raise awareness of hypnotherapy in general - not many people understand it or the benefits. Our editor suffers with emetophobia and has tried hypnotherapy in the past with no success. What would you say to her about that? So this is the fear of vomiting. It could be an emotional reaction or simply a habit but her mind is simply trying to protect her from a perceived threat, causing an increase in stress hormones. She needs to change the images in her mind when she is thinking about sick and also change any underlying beliefs she may have about it (probably picked up in childhood)! Hypnotherapy is an umbrella for a lot of different tools so the practitioner has just not removed all the resistance to change. I would say another session would be needed or try a different therapist. EM 34
Is everyone receptive to hypnotherapy? Yes! Believe it or not... but that is because it is purely a guided meditation. There is nothing magic about it like many people think. We just relax the body and it is a process of focusing on the part of the mind that usually we are unaware of. If our minds have created a problem then unconsciously we know what needs to happen to remove it. Those who say they cannot be hypnotised usually have a need to be in control which is an issue in itself we need to address. What are your plans for the future? I was working on a book at the moment which is super exciting explaining how the mind works, how we create habits and patterns of thoughts and behaviour and how to undo them. It’s a lot of work and little overwhelming but will be worth it. I also have a client out in Bali so I am hoping to be doing
some mind and body cleanse retreats soon. There is a lot going on and everyone is really interested in the work I’m doing which is amazing. Awareness of mental health is really improving at the moment so it’s a great time. Where do you spend your free time and what do you do to relax? I hadn’t had much time off lately but I am all about self care Sunday. Having a day to yourself when you can potter and pamper around. I live near a park too so I find walking with my dogs to be the best, so calming and really helps clear my mind. Running on the treadmill too actually is a great way to let out any pent up energy out and I listen to guided meditations (basically self hypnosis) daily to keep me motivated and focused. I’m big into the law of attraction and the power of mindset so it’s important I practice what I preach!

Founder of Red Daisy, Phylise, a lifelong fitness buff through a turn in her life has become heavily involved in supporting women in the fight against breast cancer. Phylise has sought to create a sports bra line that combines fashion and function while giving her a means of giving back in the fight against breast cancer. Phylise's long and unexpected journey began one fateful week in 2005 when she had just come home from the tailor for the umpteenth time having had yet another inadequate sports bra tailored and altered to her liking when she got the news: her mother and sister were diagnosed with breast cancer. This was beyond devastating for Phylise but as a lifelong athlete and a fighter at heart, she didn't let the news break her. Instead, she used this life change to take a stand and let it fuel her to find a meaningful way to give back so other women wouldn’t have to go through what she went through. This new perspective on life and her constant altering of sports bras came together in this fateful moment back in 2005 and it gave her the idea and the courage to pursue Red Daisy. After several years, hundreds of prototypes, and countless hours of hard work, Red Daisy is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
The small team is comprised of Lily Sands, Cormac McCooe, and Phylise Sands. Lily, the daughter of Phylise, manages the social media, graphic design, web development, and marketing. Cormac McCooe, a close family friend, and lifelong entrepreneur was brought onto the team to help propel the sales effort and ensure Phylise is responsible for design, manufacturing, and the big picture. Red Daisy is on a mission to create an amazing women's activewear line that acts as more than a clothing company but as a vehicle for raising awareness about women's health, emphasizing the importance of preventative care and giving back. The brand integrates into that they do by not only including the Check Myself Charm to promote regular self-checks but also donating $5 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for every item sold. Red Daisy is a proud member of the Survivors Circle in affiliation with the BCRF and are committed to doing their bit in the fight against breast cancer. Their mission is to raise awareness of the benefits of an active lifestyle and the importance of practicing good breast health. They look to stand as a symbol of hope in the battle against breast cancer.

VERYVEGAN CHRISTMAS words by
Chloe Jasmine
With the rise of Netflix documentaries such as Cowspiracy, vegan restaurants popping up, vegan dedicated magazines appearing, veganism has turned into the ‘it’ healthy trend over the couple of years. Many adopt veganism for different reasons, some for animal rights others for health and many because of food intolerances. With a string of celebrities backing the plant-based diet including the likes of Natalie Portman, Ariana Grande and Jared Leto, should we all be taking note? November celebrates World Vegan Month, which raises more awareness of veganism, vegan certified foods and consumer goods. We have researched the benefits of a vegan diet and the beauty and health pros and cons that are a product of this trending lifestyle. Especially for you, the lovely Chloe Jasmine brings us her very vegan tasty treats for the festive season. EM 39

Natalie Taylor Gray and her father
Graham Gray
released their single ‘Believe In Me’. EM Magazine talks to Natalie about her life and reasons for this particular track. My life is all about living it to the full, enjoying every moment, and being with the people that I love. My family and friends are my everything - we have always supported each other in all we do. When I was 3 years old I remember walking downstairs in our home in Manchester wearing my mum’s make-up, jewellery and shoes listening to music blaring out, and I sang (or rather shouted) along to it. I knew then that music was the key to my heart. I knew I had to sing, and enjoyed seeing people respond (sometimes positively!). My biggest thrill in my life so far though is to be able to sing a fabulous song that was first penned in its original form by a dear friend, Paul Johnstone, who my dad met on a song-writing course 6 years ago, and who he then introduced me to on the same course. We hit it off straight away. And then, seemingly like in the blink of an eye, we lost Paul at the end of 2014 to a terrible lymphoma cancer. I lost my grandma to cancer, and I know what a horrible experience it can be for people, and just how terribly important it is to keep ensuring that research
is done to get better and better treatments. Just before Paul passed, he asked my dad if he would finish the song, rearrange it and produce it with me singing it (as we had all messed about with an acoustic version a couple of years earlier) and for any proceeds due to Paul to be donated to a cancer charity. It was originally launched to raise money for Bloodwise the charity and it is now commercially available. This song means everything to me - it’s true you need to believe in yourself, strive to always do your best, and whatever, keep your head held high. This is what Paul did. He was an incredibly talented song-writer, funny, and most of all just a brilliant person. In the short time I knew Paul, he gave me so much encouragement, showed me so much love, and who believed in me.
