WALK FOR LAURALYNN

4
L-R: Helen McConnell, Ciara Donnelly, Nicole Forbes,

Children live the little moments, and so do we.

In February Team Jones took part in the 150km Challenge for LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.

LauraLynn makes the most of short and precious lives by providing a community of care and support for children and families with palliative care and complex care needs.

By taking part and supporting this challenge, we are helping children with life-limiting conditions in Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice.

Over the course of the challenge, over 80 fantastic Jones employees took part. As a result the combined distance covered by all was a whopping 12,000km.

This is the equivalent of walking from our HQ in Ballsbridge to our office in Dubai and back!

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part or supported this challenge. We raised €10,385 which the company then matched bringing he final amount raised to €20,770 - an amazing achievement and one you should all be very proud of.

Last Friday we are met up with LauraLynn to hand over the cheque so keep an eye out on our social media channels.

INTEGRATED MODULAR SOLUTIONS

6

March saw another successful delivery of a bespoke Integrated Modular Solution to a repeat client which was built at our Manufacturing facility in Carlow.

Jones Engineering Manufacturing provided this solution which consisted of 2no. 7,000LPM LPCB Diesel Driven Fire Pumps within a BCAR compliant pumphouse - ready to plug and play.

As we continue to embrace our clients’ concepts to help them realise the off-site manufacturing potential through collaborative DfMA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly) workshops; the benefits to our clients and their design teams are clear.

By involving Jones Engineering Manufacturing at concept stage it allows us to fully investigate Design for Manufacturing Excellence from the outset . This can include investigating energy efficiencies, ESG targets, reducing lead times, improving quality and portfolio standardisation, while reducing activities on site.

ESB SCIENCE BLAST

ESB Science Blast is a free, non-competitive educational programme for primary schools (3rd to 6th Class/Key Stage 2), that involves the whole class investigating the science behind a simple question.

Inspiring the next generation

has always been our goal, and that is why we are always so excited to meet the curious minds of the future and discover their research and findings.

This year our stand offered experiences with our virtual reality world and challenged students to beat the bleep.

Now in its fifth year, over 35,000 children have participated in ESB Science Blast to date, making it the largest primary school programme on the island of Ireland.

We are feeling super inspired by the next generation of Engineers and Scientists and look forward to the future of engineering.

Well done to all the students who inspired us with their fantastic projects and thanks to everyone who visited our VR world and tried our Beat the Bleep challenge.

Let’s keep making the impossible, possible.

WELLBEING WEEK

Nothing is more important to us at Jones Engineering than our employees’ wellbeing.

Our Mental Health First Aid programme has been rolled out and our company aims to have a certified mental health first aider on site for all staff to access.

There are many great resources out there to boost our wellbeing both inside and outside of our workplaces. ‘Take Control with Stress Control’ is an online service organised by the HSE inviting people to avail of six freeof-charge classes at the click of a button (https://stresscontrol.ie)

It also provides relaxation and mindfulness tips along with positive psychology skills to help with our day-to-day activities and fight stress.

Face your fears; be more active; boost your wellbeing – the courses are run by a consultant clinical psychologist and participants are finding it great therapy. In fact, the courses aim to help you ultimately become your own therapist with tips to control your own stress for a more positive and healthy future.

You can also find some very good mental health support/services here: https://www2.hse.ie/mentalhealth/issues/

WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION

With new generations there will be more glass ceilings being shattered and more women feeling empowered enough to do the unexpected.

One of the central missions of International Women’s Day is to forge inclusive work cultures where women’s careers thrive and their achievements are celebrated. At Jones Engineering we continue to promote engineering to all. We recognise the importance of encouraging the next generation of women into a career in engineering, and to stymie the notion that it is a choice just available to men.

In March we celebrated Women In Construction Week and championed women’s achievements and recognised the important role they play in the construction industry.

Solas and the Government are introducing many initiatives to encourage women in this sector by providing mentorship and networking opportunities as well as training and apprenticeship programmes.

Thank you to all our incredible women working in the field who are crucial to everything we do at Jones and are integral to this growing industry.

PLUMBING CHAMPIONS FRANKFURT

In March our very own Jamie Bermingham travelled over to Germany to take part in a 5-day “Plumbing Champions” event in Frankfurt working alongside up to 10 different nationalities from across the world.

Jamie is not shy of the spotlight having recently been awarded the winners medal at the WorldSkills Ireland Plumbing and Heating Final at the end of 2022.

Jamie worked with a team of 12 plumbers & apprentices building pre-wall geberit frame systems for bathrooms which were donated to a local sports centre and installed at the end of the week.
Another life changing opportunity to say the least and I am very grateful to be where I am today.
I look forward to this amazing opportunity. I Can’t thank all at Jones Engineering enough for their support

At Jones Engineering, we are committed to conducting business in a responsible manner, playing an active role within our communities, and creating value in the areas we work. We strive to make a difference by fostering the next generation of talent, sponsoring organisations and supporting charities through company and employee efforts.

Carlow

During our planting day in Carlow we visited three schools, a special needs facility and community gardens near our Manufacturing facility. With the help of 70 enthusiastic children from junior infants to sixth class, we planted 10 trees at Gaelscoil Eoghain Uí Thuairisc in Carlow town, 5 trees at St Brigid’s and 10 trees at Queen of the Universe National School in Bagenalstown. We also visited BEAM Services, a training and services centre for adults with special needs in the Carlow area, leaving another fruitful orchard behind.

It was so rewarding to see the joy the planting day brought to both the school children and BEAM Services’ members who were delighted to say they had helped plant over 50 trees and choose creative names for them! We also donated an orchard to the new Bagenalstown Community Garden being created by Bagenalstown Improvement Group. This new community garden will improve wellbeing by servicing thousands of people in the local area.

Since the opening of Jones Engineering Manufacturing Facility in Carlow in 2019 we have created hundreds of jobs and introduced modular construction to the small town of Bagenalstown. We are delighted to give something back to the local community to help increase wellbeing and provide support in the area where we work.

Roscommon

We have worked on several large pharmaceutical projects in both the west of Ireland and the midlands and have recently been named Mechanical and Electrical contractor on the new Limerick Hospital. We allocated several orchards to the local community in Roscommon and over 30 students from both fifth and sixth class participated in our planting day at Lisaniskey National School, leaving behind positive feedback and an expert group of energetic young tree planters!

“We really appreciate what Jones Engineering has done in giving orchards to our facility and providing a fun planting day for our members. It is thanks to generous local companies that we can run facilities like these.” John Murphy, BEAM Services.

IRELAND GRAND SLAM

Ireland were crowned Guinness Six Nations Grand Slam Champions thanks to a bonus point 29-16 win against England at the Aviva Stadium.

A raucous home crowd cheered Ireland on in a nervy first half but Ireland pulled away in the second half and ‘The Fields’ rang out around the home of Irish Rugby.

KILREE CELTIC

FC

Congratulations to Kilree Celtic FC who won our jersey competition in the last issue of our newsletter.

We are delighted to sponsor the 20-year anniversary kit and support the lads who play in the Carlow & District Football League.

Best of luck to the team in their upcoming matches!

THE JONES SAFETY TOUR CONTINUES

In February our second safety seminar took place, hosting over 80 people in the Cork region. The inspiring seminar was filled with engaging live performances from Theatre at Work, and special guests all displaying the importance of proactive health and safety in the workplace.

The event guests included Mick Loughran, who discussed working with machinery and his traumatic accident; Alan Quinlan, former Irish rugby player who presented his helpful tips for coping with mental health; and Alan Browne from ESB who warned of the dangers of working with electricity lines.

Always remember to keep safety as your number one value.
