about

European Wind Academy (EWA) is a wind energy training provider located in Szczecin, Poland. The company is associated with FairWind A/S - a global provider of wind turbine installation and service solutions. Since 2017, EWA is a certified Global Wind Organisation Basic Safety Training provider. In 2018 we have extended our training portfolio with Basic Technical Training (BTT).

Our GWO trainers come from the industry and have many years of experience installing and servicing wind turbines around the world. This allows us to offer our customers a product which is not only professional but also provides the benefits of experience developed in a real work environment. We know wind and we realize that sometimes things can get complicated. Therefore, we do our best to combine professional, safe training with the flexibility that is essential in the wind business.

good to GLOBAL WIND ORGANISATION Safety is the number one priority for companies in the global wind industry, so to contribute to a better and safer work environment, GWO was set up by 13 leading wind power companies in 2009. Since then, a few major changes were implemented, such as the introduction of GWO Basic Safety Training and Basic Technical Training – an absolutely must-have for wind professionals.

NO MORE PAPER CERTIFICATES

In 2016, GWO launched a Global Wind Industry Training Records Database - WINDA. WINDA is a global database designed with the primary purpose of verifying the certification status of GWO Certified Training Providers and the training status of Delegates who have attended GWO certified training courses. Therefore, there are no more “hard copy” certificates.

o know WINDA means

QUALITY & CONTROL

WINDA helps to: • eliminate the risk of fraud from non-certified Training Providers • increase trust in competence records and the validity of the Training Provider’s certification status • reduce compliance costs by avoiding repeated employee/contractor verification checks

Additionally, it is expected that WINDA will soon include an obligatory evaluation form which will allow you to choose the best Training Providers.

In the 1st year of its activity, EWA issued almost

2000

GWO certificates and provided training in Polish, English, Spanish and Ukrainian.

GWO WORKING AT HEIGHTS The BST Working at Heights module is designed to give necessary basic knowledge and skills to people working at heights in a wind turbine environment. Working at Heights training is essential to all who engage in any activities that require you to work, supervise, plan or organise work at heights. Theoretical and practical training focuses on how to use basic PFPE and perform safe work at heights, alongside with emergency rescue and escape from wind turbines using dedicated equipment. This two-day module is fully executed in accordance with Global Wind Organisation Basic Safety Training Working at Heights standards. Our high level of standards, together with real life turbine work experience, allows us to provide training of a quality we would be happy to receive ourselves.

COURSE CONTENT After completing the course, the participant will learn about: • Risks and hazards when working at heights, specific to a wind turbine environment. • Local legislation regarding working at heights. • PPE identification and PPE inspection, service and storage. • The use of relevant PFPE in different scenarios. • Safe evacuation and use of evacuation devices. • Rescue situations in wind turbine generators and use of rescue equipment.

GWO FIRE AWARENESS The BST Fire Awareness module is designed to provide basic knowledge and skills to people working in a wind turbine environment. Wherever there are electrical cabinets, mechanical parts etc. there exists the risk of fire. Theoretical and practical training focuses on how to prevent fires, make initial and appropriate judgments when evaluating a fire, and perform proper evacuation of personnel while ensuring all are safe. After this course, participants will know how to efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic hand held firefighting equipment. This 4-hour module is fully executed in accordance with Global Wind Organisation Basic Safety Training Fire Awareness standards. Our instructors provide a high level of training based on years of real life firefighter experience.

COURSE CONTENT After completing the course, the participant will learn about: • Fire development and spread. • Causes of fires in wind turbines together with related dangers. • Identification of signs of fire in a wind turbine generator. • Appropriate activities related to the operation of fire-fighting equipment to extinguish a fire in a wind turbine generator.

GWO MANUAL HANDLING The BST Manual Handling module is designed to teach participants the importance of carrying out work duties in a safe and sound manner according to local rules. Whenever heavy work is performed, we are at risk of injury, and the aim of this course is to prevent that. Participants will gain awareness through theoretical and practical training designed to encourage positive manual handling behavior and perform manual handling activities in a safe manner in the wind turbine industry/environment, in accordance with the GWO Manual Handling standard. Our instructors demonstrate Manual Handling risk reduction techniques that our trainees’ backs will certainly be grateful for in the future.

COURSE CONTENT After completing the course, the participant will learn about: • The importance of carrying out Manual Handling work duties in a safe and sound manner. • How to identify aspects of their job tasks that could increase the worker’s risk of developing muscular skeletal injuries. • Safe practices of Manual Handling, including the correct handling of equipment. • How to demonstrate a problem-solving approach to Manual Handling in a wind turbine environment. • How to demonstrate Manual Handling risk reduction techniques.
