1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Throughout this module I have developed a lot of academic skills, learning and gaining a deeper understanding of form and function, this then carried through into my design work making me think about what’s really necessary and what’s not. Another thing I have gained is a strong understanding of sustainable design, this is something I found really interesting, I then used this for my essay and practical piece, doing this made me think a lot about how design should used to help the environment and not hinder it. One thing I gained was the skill of designing backwards, this allowed me to reduce my waste from projects and gave me a better understanding of what can be used and done.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? A approach to design I have developed again is designing backwards, this has informed my design by reducing my wastage from projects and gave me an understanding of different papers and stocks that can be used because of there sustainability, such as using recycled paper, or recycled inks and glues. These all produce design that is just as strong as design that hasn’t had these materials. Developing a concept is also something that is vital to this module, and I feel my approach and concept to sustainable design relates well to my essay and forms a fusion between the 2, they help promote awareness. Another approach I have gained through looking at sustainability is not wasting paper and printing unnecessary things, mock ups are vital and can help but wasting appear for other things that aren’t needed has lead me to become more economical with my design.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? Some strengths I have gained are using different materials that give my work a unique aesthetic and also keeping it sustainable. A strength in my final outcome is how professional it looks and the quality of the crafting. I also find the colours I have used are strong and relevant and again these give me a unique look to my work that is used throughout. Another strength is how I have applied the message that I wanted to, I feel through the use of illustration creates something that is playful and friendly and easy to understand for all ages.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? A weakness in my work is maybe the quantity, I feel with a little extra work I would have a really strong outcome, with better time management and being more organised I would have a stronger outcome with more work.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? 1. Next time I will book print slots further in advance so I can have a higher quality in the print side of things. 2. Another thing I would do is blog as I go, so I can show all my development as I go and will keep me up to date and leave me time for other work. 3. I think in terms of quantity of work if I had done more research then I could have produced more. 4. Although I have sourced a range of different sustainable papers I feel there could have been more I could have looked at, this would then of given a larger range to look at. 5. Another thing I could have done differently is experiment more with different layouts of the a5 cards and maybe adding more information, this would then make my audience more informed.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 x Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
