1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Throughout PPP I have developed many different skills, I have learnt a lot about how a business can be put together and the all the different things that go with this, to do with money and the different types of business there are, these skills I can now apply to setting up my own business or even to freelancing. I have gathered information on how to make things like business cards and how important they are, another important skill is networking, where a presentation from John was really informative and he really emphasised how important it is, so I have set up a Behance and linkedIn profile, this will then hopefully get me a little more exposure. Throughout this module I have also gained more confidence in my presentation, having this skill is vital when it comes to presenting my work, after the presentation which I felt went well I feel like I have improved just slightly from last year. Developing this skill is something that is vital and I feel like I am doing even if very slightly.
2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
Approaches to design that I have gained over this module have mostly come from the final brief of branding myself, where I have been able to look at what I have to offer and what skills I have, then showing these as a brand, after doing research I was able to see how people were able to create something really unique. I then developed my own brand and identity through this research that gave me something that looked strong and professional.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? Some strengths in my work I feel were the brand and identity, where I was able to produce something that I feel represented me well and was professional and looked strong. Creating this will allow me to get my look/brand out there and I will become recognisable and it will benefit me a lot in the future getting me more clients and work. Another strength I think I have is the crafting of my work, in terms of the notebook and the business cards I feel I have produced a high quality finish, doing this I can carry it over to other projects an because I know how the cards have been made and what to do I can reproduce these more efficiently.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? A weakness I feel I have is still presentations, although I said id improved I still feel it is a weakness, in the future I will prepare better for the presentation, practicing it and having it prepared before the night before, this will then calm me down and will hopefully relax more when I do them, learning the presentation before hand will also mean I wont need to look at my notes as much and I can engage with the audience more. Another weakness I have is blogging, I think if I was more organised I would be able to blog as I go and keep on track with it, so in the future I will try and be ,ore organised and leave time for blogging.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? 1. I will prepare my presentation in advance so I have time to rehearse it and be more confident when presenting 2. Another thing I would do is blog as I go, so I can show all my development as I go and will keep me up to date and leave me time for other work. 3. I think in terms of quantity of work if I feel I could have done more, this could be achieved by being more organised. 4. I think sourcing printers and booking print slots in advance will help me because the things I have printed vary in colour because of the different printers used. 5. I think next time I again leave time for my presentation, then I will be able to produce a better presentation that has a stronger visual quality.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 x Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
