EXCLUSIVE LIFE IS… FEELING BLESSED
five years and so much more…
Exclusive Life to celebrate such a round, Elegant number. We’ve designed an issue in which fashion and jewellery, in addition to the best local, national and international entrepreneurs and companies from different sectors, hold a special space in the following pages.
Culture, art and beauty continue to be featured in every edition, because Marbella progresses with each year that passes; promoting excellence and the typical lifestyle of a city that is bathed by the sun, sea and light, not forgetting the cheerful nature of its people.
We’re proud of our city, its people, its traditions, its fresh challenges, innovative projects and new restaurants. But there’s still room for improvement! The future holds success, and if our businesses succeed, Marbella succeeds!
If an entrepreneur can efficiently streamline their new projects, their success will be shared by all of us! Let’s be more productive and agile in our work performance. Let’s all be advocates of EXCELLENCE, to create a revitalised city, culturally and architecturally. Let’s go the extra mile, and set the bar higher for ourselves as a city. Anything can be accomplished, if we draw inspiration from good references.
“We’re fortunate to live in a city that is a true paradise. MAR-BELLA, as beautiful as its name indicates, and which is already an international benchmark for elegance, luxury and glamour, on a par with places like Monaco.”
Let’s strive to keep it that way! Let’s be proactive advocates, with a forward-looking vision, so that our city continues to prosper, and remains in the spotlight and in the hearts of those who visit our area.
I wish you all the best, and I hope you like this edition as much as I do.

A word with
ERIC EBBING
ENTREPRENEUR & CEO OF HOMERUN BROKERS
Eric’s entrepreneurial career started at a young age back in Malmo, Sweden. With a passion for music and a keen interest in the hospitality sector, Eric founded “Big Slap”, one of Sweden’s largest, annual music festivals. Looking to keep challenging his creative mind, he started investing in real estate. In 2017 he decided it was time for a change and moved to Marbella. Whilst continuing his journey in the property development and investment sector, in 2018 he also founded Occo, a Lebanese restaurant and now a Marbella hotspot.
After being involved in the Marbella real estate market for some time, he founded Homerun Brokers in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. Eric is a sharp and resilient individual who understands the true value of relationships and anticipates opportunity. He swung a real Homerun and can now proudly say he manages one of Marbella’s leading luxury real estate agencies.
Teamwork makes the dream work!
What’s the key to success at Homerun Brokers?
At the end of the day, a company is based on having a clear vision and people with the right set of skills and tools. Every individual in the team is unique and brings a different set of assets to the company and compliment each other. I don’t expect everyone to follow the same rules because they are not the same. Instead, we focus and acknowledge each persons potential and highlight it.
Although we follow a family based work culture, we like to think outside the box, do things differently and stay a step ahead. Of course there is competition but respect is the base of all. All titles are important and every person must have initiative to continue growing. Everyone’s opinion is valid, as a leader you must trust your team and take their ideas into account within their field. That’s the only way to keep them motivated and keep growing as a company.
How does the company differentiate itself in the market?
Authenticity. We passionately live and breathe what we offer. That’s why it’s so important to carefully handpick every team member in the company. Most people move to Marbella in search for a better quality of life and there
is no more organic way to advertise our services than by showing our own lifestyle.
The properties we offer are similar to the ones we live in, the surrounding activities we show and recommend are actually our own after work hobbies. Our clients are similar minded people, therefore, creating content to brand our company comes so naturally to us - with great attention to detail, expertise and quality of course. That’s how we created a unique brand identity.
What is the main challenge for Marbella real estate market right now?
The biggest issue at the moment is supply. While the demand has been so high, there are only a few new developments left that justify their price. The good news is, that there is new construction under way - the number of new building permits in the province went up 12% last yearalthough this will take time to be ready for the market. As a result, prices have gone up significantly. A two-million euro property is now three million euros. Clients may need to raise their budgets in order to buy a decent property in Marbella.
“The aim is to create a lifestyle you fall in love with, and make a living from it.”
- ERIC EBBING
Villa Aguila sold & now exclusive rental !
Beautiful exclusive listing sold in Monte Halcones to a direct client for €9.000.000 and now exclusively for rent at Homerun Brokers.
Homerun Brokers in the future…
Where is the company going?
I can not be more proud of what we have achieved in just a couple of years since we founded the company. However, it does not stop there, my vision is to continue growing within every department of the company: Sell, buy, rent and developments. We have over fifty fantastic exclusive listings for both for sell and rent, our aim is to double this number by the end of the year and consecutively. We just introduced a new department; Homerun Developments. We are currently working on over ten projects and our goal is to continue searching for new renown Architects and Project Managers to join our in house team. Further more, to continue doubling our sales turnover on a yearly bases as we have been doing and to continue expanding our brand and introduce it to foreign markets.

Founder of Omeo Design & Co-fuunder of Palmeras Property Development
OLIVIA
Explore the world of property developer and interior designer Olivia O. Wickerts, CEO and Head of Design at Omeo Design and CCO at Palmeras Property Development. From her early beginnings as a one-woman team, to her current team of experts, we explore the life events that have shaped her unique design style. Follow us as we journey through a typical day in the life of Olivia and get a sneak peek at OMEO’s upcoming projects.
Olivia’s journey as an interior designer began in 2012 when she moved from her hometown in Sweden to the sunny shores of Marbella. In 2015, her first project marked the start of her career in property development and interior design. Olivia’s work is not just a job, it’s a lifestyle. She admits to not having days off, as she loves what she does every day. Olivia’s dedication to creating unique spaces is seen in her incorporation of secret spaces into her designs, adding surprise and function to any space. OMEO design’s bespoke furniture also adds a layer of personalisation to each project, as each piece is custom made for each client to create a one-of-a-kind project.
Can you describe your approach to working with projects and clients?
When I take on a project, I fully immerse myself in it. I take the design process very seriously and I view it as more than just a job; it’s a lifestyle. I find myself constantly thinking about my projects, even when I’m not actively working on them. Whether I’m waking up in the morning or sitting down to dinner, my mind is always turning over ideas and considering the best options for each project. I think in extreme detail and this level of engagement takes up a lot of my time and mental capacity.
Because of this, I limit the number of projects I take on to ensure that each one receives my full attention and dedication.
Olivia’s personality and experiences have had a profound impact on how she approaches interior design. Olivia’s design inspiration was shaped by her childhood and upbringing. She grew up in a safe, warm, and loving family. Her father is an art dealer who had one of Stockholm’s biggest private art galleries. She has been surrounded by modern art all her life, visited artists’ studios, and met some of Europe’s biggest private art collectors. “I think all these impressions since an early age have influenced me and shaped how I see and use colours,” she says.
One of Olivia’s hobbies includes organising parties and celebrating life events. Her attention to detail as an interior designer is reflected in her event planning, and she has even created weekly “Ollybollyranch” hangouts at her home for friends and family to gather. Her love of celebration extends beyond her own home. She is particularly drawn to Spanish ferias and never misses a chance to attend the famous Feria de Abril in Seville every year. For Olivia, every moment is an opportunity to create a lasting memory, and this philosophy is reflected in the way she approaches each and every project.
Another passion of Olivia is animals and animal welfare. She rescued a dog from the streets of Greece, and later on in Spain, a donkey, and 3 mares. “I rescued them once, but they have rescued me countless times,” she explains. Her spontaneous
“I rescued them once but they have rescued me countless times.”
“I love my work. Design and development is more like a lifestyle for me so I don’t see myself as ever having “days o ”. Everyday feels like a blend of Monday and Saturday for me”.
decisions to rescue animals have led to a life full of joy, love, and positive changes. “For me, the meaning of life is to connect with as many species as possible”, she says.
In what ways does your love for animals influence and inspire your designs?
I can’t imagine life without animals close in my life. I most often include animals in my designs, whether it’s a statue of an animal or a console that doubles as a dog bed. In our most recent project, “The Nest,” I’ve taken inspiration from a bird’s nest and created a seat group that floats high at the edge of the plot. Animals are not just a design element for me, they are a source of inspiration, bringing joy and warmth to any space they occupy.
When Olivia started OMEO, she took care of everything herself, from design to project management to delivery. Now, OMEO has a team of four architects, a CFO, two logistics managers, and a 3D rendering visualizer. “I would never be able to do what I do without them and my other close teams of suppliers and manufacturers,” she says. The success of OMEO has been a team effort. Olivia has strongly emphasised how deeply grateful she is to all the clients and suppliers who have
contributed to OMEO’s success, and she takes great pride in the skill and professionalism of her team, for whom she is extremely thankful.
Can you walk us through what a typical day is like for you when you are onsite for a project?
These site meetings are some of the most important moments in my week! We all gather on location and share ideas and insights. I always find it interesting to hear everyone’s point of view. I usually bring at least one of my architects and one of my installers, along with my two dogs. Once we arrive at the project site, we meet with the building team, including the foreman, site manager, technical architect, and any suppliers involved. We walk through the project and address any questions or requests from both sides. Site meetings for me are important and inspiring.
Any new exciting OMEO projects to look forward to?
So many exciting projects! We are currently working on 8 in-house projects with Palmeras property development. At OMEO we have 15 external additional projects with both developers and private clients, located in la Quinta, la Cascada de Camoján, Nueva Andalucia, La Zagaleta, Madroñal and Madrid.
“In the beginning I did it all by myself, a long side as I was studying interior architecture. I took on the roles of designer, project manager, installer, delivery person, storage organiser, accountant, and handled all client connections.”

DAVID Chipperfield
Minimalism with a vocation
for permanence
David Chipperfield’s approach to architectural thinking is what has led the British architect to win the Pritzker Prize 2023. In his designs, construction comes together on all levels. From urban buildings that make up a city skyline, to the most intimate interiors that recall the legacy of what once was the building that houses them.
avid Alan Chipperfield was born in London in 1953. He studied architecture at the Kingston School of Art and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. After working with renowned architects including Normal Foster, he set up his own practice, David Chipperfield Architects, in 1984. The firm has since expanded to include offices around the world, in London, Berlin, Milan, and the representative office in Shanghai.
Chipperfield’s architecture is usually included within the stylistic current of minimalism, applied at all levels, from warm interiors to the most colossal urban buildings, and including private homes, offices, hotels, museums, art galleries, offices and libraries.
Chipperfield has taught at the UK’s top schools of architecture and lectured at several European and American universities, a career that has been crowned with the Pritzker Prize as the culmination of his international recognition.
ARCHITECTURE AND THE PASSAGE OF TIME
The architect, who once defended that the Neues Museum in Berlin should preserve some of its traces of war damage, has been an advocate throughout his career of not destroying buildings with a past in order to build from scratch, but rather respecting them so as to create something better.
As a designer, he understands heritage with the humility and perception that only the great possess. His designs include Mies van der Rohe in Berlin, the Medienhafen in Düsseldorf, the Hangzhou residential complex in China, the MUDEC Museum in Milan, the San Michele cemetery in Venice, the Hepworth Wakefield in the United Kingdom, and in Valencia, the colossal Veles e Vents building.
“We have to build less but better. Good design includes ideas, materials, understanding of the place, and dedication of time.”
Now that the scarcity of resources results in an architecture that does not have permanence as its ultimate goal, David Chipperfield nevertheless argues that this should be its aim. In the architect’s opinion, building well, regardless of the time it takes to complete each project, is always an obligation.
BUILDINGS THAT LAST
“We have to build less but better. Good design includes ideas, materials, understanding of the place, and dedication of time. Study all that and optimise your relationship. I don’t build well because I’m a genius, just because I’m not, I have dedicated myself to digging in places to understand them and get the project they contain from there”, says Chipperfield.
The building’s permanence is one of the key elements for this architect, who points out that even when we build a sand castle on the beach, we protect it so that it will last. “Architecture is about brands that symbolise permanence. The spectacle of power has never interested me. The staying power does,” says the architect.
DAKOTA JOHNSON A self-carved life
Dakota Johnson has carved out her career as an actress. In the spotlight since birth as the daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, her life has certainly not been a bed of roses, despite having everything at her fingertips.
“I absorb the moods around me like a sponge, so it gets complicated when I have to shoot dark films.”
D
akota was born in Austin, Texas, in 1989. While she was being delivered at Brackenridge Hospital, her father, Don Johnson, was filming the movie The Hot Spot. Photographers were waiting outside the hospital, eager to get a shot of Melanie Griffith leaving the hospital with the baby in her arms.
The daughter and granddaughter of actors - her maternal grandparents were child actor Peter Griffith and actress Tippi Hedren - she says she always wanted to be an actress. However, her parents insisted that, apart from some sporadic work, she should focus on her studies. This firm decision meant that while she was at secondary school she took on part-time jobs in local shops, which she combined with her ballet lessons.
A TROUBLED ADOLESCENCE
During her adolescence she was diagnosed as hyperactive, which was the reason for her changing schools seven times and ending up studying from home. Since then, she has been taking medication and seeing a psychiatrist, having also been diagnosed with depression.
Her first cinema appearance was in the film Crazy in Alabama, in which she acted alongside her mother in the role of protagonist, and directed by her then stepfather, Antonio Banderas. When she was 12 years old, after a photo shoot with other celebrities’ children for Vogue magazine, she decided to try her hand at modelling, and posed for different jobs, sparking her interest in the fashion world.
In 2006, she signed up with IMG Models, and went on to do campaigns for Mango and the Australian fashion brand, Wish. Soon after, she started taking acting classes with Tom Todoroff, who had trained a still unknown Angelina Jolie some years earlier.
The role of Anastasia Steele in the film Fifty Shades of Grey, which was an instant worldwide success.
THE LEAP TO FAME
After several films and television appearances of little significance, she got her big break with the role of Anastasia Steele in the film Fifty Shades of Grey, which was an instant worldwide success. “I completely disagree with people who think Anastasia is weak. Everything she does is her choice. I’m a strong advocate of women doing what they want with their bodies, and not being ashamed of it.” she told reporters on the day of the premiere.
Apart from her film career, Dakota is still involved in the world of fashion, participating in campaigns for Uniqlo and Intimissimi. The actress is also the muse of Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michelle, who has used her image as a brand ambassador for the firm’s fragrances.
Dakota Johnson has admitted that she has never really felt comfortable in her own skin. Having been a victim of bullying, she rarely uses social media, preferring to practise Bikram Yoga. “I absorb the moods around me like a sponge, so it gets complicated when I have to shoot dark films,” she says.
A COMMITTED ACTRESS
Committed to long-term relationships, the actress is now living with British musician and singer Chris Martin, although she is very protective of her private life. She is, however, known to be a great animal lover. She has an adopted dog, and she once donated €6,000 so that 12 horses would not be slaughtered due to the closure of a shelter.
She has also participated in campaigns in defence of children’s rights in countries such as Uganda, and against domestic abuse and sexual harassment of women, using the red carpet of the Oscars and the Golden Globes as a platform to raise awareness.
Dakota Johnson points out that, despite the difficulties she has had to overcome, she is a self-made woman. If there is one thing she is proud of, it is striving for a fairer and more egalitarian society, which earned her second place in InStyle magazine’s list of 50 Badass Women Who Are Changing The World.
“I completely disagree with people who think Anastasia is weak. Everything she does is her choice. I’m a strong advocate of women doing what they want with their bodies, and not being ashamed of it.”

Located in Dénia, Restaurante Quique Dacosta aims to deliver unique sensory experiences. Imaginative, avant-garde, innovative gastronomic moments, where the table serves as the perfect stage, and food becomes the most wonderfully powerful communication medium.
TEXT: EVA DEL AMOuique Dacosta endeavours to nurture his emotions in order to tend to those of his diners. Over and above the aesthetics, technique and technology, even the product, he aims to convey via a harmonious, creative language and provide a unique sensory experience. The ambitious result has been accomplished. Those who go to the restaurant bearing his name in Denia do so in pursuit of something that only a select few of the global gastronomy elite can offer: sheer beauty on the palate.
A CHEF BY PROFESSION
Born in Extremadura and Valencian by adoption, Quique Dacosta has been developing his professional career as a chef since 1986. At the age of 14, he was already researching the latest culinary trends, mainly in books by French chefs, convinced that food had to be something more than pure and simple sustenance.
At the age of 18, he began visiting Spain’s best gourmet restaurants, and in 1988 he started working at El Poblet, which would later become Quique Dacosta Restaurante. Under his management, a menu offering a selection of local seafood gave way to a new Valencian cuisine, brought up to date with the most innovative techniques.
This avant-garde gastronomy seeks to lighten cuisine as a central concept, and to adjust the cooking points of the products and their preparation. Using local products, the aim is to create a window open to the world, to the cultures of other countries, so as to enrich his expertise and proposal.
THREE MICHELIN STARS
From his foie-gras Cuba Libre in 2001, when Quique Dacosta started to spark interest in the national culinary scene, by 2012, he had attained three Michelin stars for Restaurante Quique Dacosta in the Michelin Guide 2012/2013.
In 2019, the chef was recognised as the best businessman in the Spanish restaurant industry by the Royal Academy of Gastronomy. A year later he was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts by the Spanish Government.
One of the things that characterises Dacosta is his profound respect for the product. The environment embraces and enchants the chef, leaving its mark on many of his creations. If in the 1990s, Quique contextualised this new Valencian cuisine, in the first decade of the 21st century, he has been inspired by landscapes and the arts. Since 2011 he has been developing a new structure for building
menus and dishes, divided into acts and tasting sequences that make up a menu of around 40 tapas.
At each lunch and dinner service, 30 clients have the opportunity to live the culinary experience proposed at the restaurant. It consists of a series of phases divided into acts which combine snacks, tapas, themed or sequential product dishes, desserts and sweet snacks. You can experience it with wine pairing, and both savoury and sweet snacks are served in the glassed or outdoor garden, weather permitting.
Valencian innovation and avant-garde prevail to crea-
te an experience that will leave no diner indifferent. “I believe in beauty as a tool for living, a steady beacon that nonetheless evolves and moves. I’m interested in creating from a place of beauty and harmony. Cooking beauty is a language with an intellectual and intentional foundation that unites. I believe there are many forms of beauty, and they express themselves in a multitude of ways. I too have evolved with them according to my moods,” says Dacosta.
His delicious creations, such as flower salad, prawn fossil, rice spores or Mediterranean pine are proof of this fact.
Welcome, digital nomads
ith the publication in the Spanish Official Gazette of Law 28/2022, of 22nd December, promoting the start-up ecosystem, also known as the Start-up Law, we already have a variety of entrepreneurs and “remote” workers from rather heterogeneous companies arriving or preparing to arrive in Malaga and our coast, and not just start-ups.
With this new Start-up Law, the preparation of which we announced a couple of years ago in another article for this magazine, something that was easy to predict has become a reality: Malaga in general, and Marbella in particular, have become unbeatable destinations for a new subtype of international citizens, the “digital nomads”.
In its fifth final provision, this law introduces a new type of visa and authorisation for residence and work by international teleworking to support entrepreneurs and their internationalisation.
In addition to the general requirements regulated by the Entrepreneurs Law, the Start-up Law creates a series of specific requirements for the stay or residence of international teleworkers: (a) proof that the company for which the worker provides services has been carrying out genuine and continuous work for at least one year; (b) proof that the employment relationship can be exercised remotely, and (c) proof of an employment relationship between the worker and the company for at least the last 3 months preceding the date on which the application is submitted, as well as the company’s permission for the worker to work remotely.
This new law enables these teleworkers, via visa, to enter and reside in Spain for a maximum period of one year and during this time, if they so wish, to apply for a residence permit for a maximum period of three years with a subsequent renewal for two years.
As is also the case with the investment residence option, the rule offers two possibilities. On the one hand, you can apply for residence by teleworking directly in Spain with a tourist visa, thus obtaining a residence permit for three years or, on the other hand, you can obtain a visa in your country of origin for one year in order to enter Spain and,
once you are in the country, you can obtain a residence permit for three years. Personally, I believe that this second option is more conservative and enables better organisation of the teleworker and their family’s new life in Spain.
Furthermore, the resolution of the application is quick (20 days), with administrative silence being positive (if there is no response within this period, the application will be considered approved).
The Law has defined the requirements to be fulfilled in order to access this type of residence permit, with the difference that they vary slightly for employees whose company allows them to work remotely from Spain or for self-employed workers with income derived from online activity outside Spain.
As special requirements the applicant must provide proof of the following:
1. The company for which the applicant works must not be located in Spain because the income received in Spain or by Spanish companies cannot represent more than 20% of the total.
2. The period of employment with the company the applicant works for or the professional relationship they have as a self-employed professional must be at least three months prior to application. In case of working for a company, the duration of the contract must be at least one year.
3. Sufficient experience and training must be proven or demonstrated. For this, it would be sufficient to demonstrate 3 years of work experience prior to application, or to prove a degree or postgraduate degree from a university or business school of recognised prestige or appropriate professional training.
The following general requirements must be met by the applicant:
1. No criminal record or prohibition of entry to Spain, provi-
ding a criminal record certificate, valid for at least 90 days, duly legalised and apostilled.
2. Have private medical insurance, with full coverage throughout Spain.
3. Provide a bank certificate proving the possession of at least 25,000 euros for the main applicant and slightly less than 10,000 euros for each additional family member for their maintenance in Spain. Means of support can also be justified with employment contract, payslips, certificate of income, etc.
4. Submit application form and pay visa fee.
Finally, there is a small difference depending on whether or not the applicant is self-employed: If the applicant is employed by a foreign company, the company must have been in operation for at least one year prior to the application and the company must provide for the possibility of remote working.
If the applicant is self-employed, they must be registered as such outside Spain, working for at least one client outside Spain, with the possibility of being able to work remotely. Unlike other types of residence, this type of residence benefits from a special, specific and more beneficial tax regime. Holders of this residence permit will be subject to income tax in Spain as non-residents at the rate of 24% for income derived from employment up to 600,000 euros instead of the progressive Spanish rate of 47%, provided that the holder of this residence permit has not been in Spain for the last five years.
This advantage, undoubtedly attractive in an unattractive country from a tax point of view, guarantees the success of the formula, although the application for non-residence for tax purposes must be filed with the Spanish Tax Authorities within six months of obtaining residence. Camino de

The controversial Temporary Solidarity Tax of Great Fortunes
Despite what has been indicated, the truth is that the tax is applied to individual assets greater than 3,700,000 euros in the case of residents since there is a minimum exemption of 700,000 euros. This means that for the most common case in our country, of marriage under community property, it will only affect them if their joint assets exceed 7,400,000 euros. In addition, given the application of the tax benefits existing in the IP, it falls, fundamentally, on financial or real estate assets, given the exemption of those of a business nature.
According to the justification of the amendment presented by the Socialist Parliamentary Group to the Bill on non-tax public patrimonial benefits to the energy and financial sectors, where it is incorporated, there are two primary purposes. The first, collection, in order to demand, in these times of energy crisis and inflation, a more significant effort from those with greater economic capacity, that is, a show of solidarity from the great fortunes.
The Temporary Solidarity Tax of Great Fortunes (ITSGF) is regulated by Law 38/2022 of December 27 (LITSGF). It is configured as a tribute whose objective is to guarantee that great fortunes contribute in accordance with art. 31.1 of the Constitution (CE), to support public spending. It is a state figure and complementary to the Wealth Tax (IP), since its regulation is mimetic and its fee is deductible from that of the latter. It is not subject to transfer to the Autonomous Communities (CA/CCAA) and is levied, with an additional fee, on the assets of individuals for amounts greater than 3,000,000 euros. The latter can be resident in Spanish territory or not, paying tax, in the latter case, for the assets and rights they own, when they are located, can be exercised or have to be fulfilled in it.
The second harmonizing, with the aim of reducing the differences in the tax on assets in the different CCAAs, especially so that the tax burden of taxpayers residing in those who have suppressed the IP, totally or partially, does not differ from those who do not They have acted in the same way.
For this reason, the ITSGF follows the IP scheme and is articulated as a temporary tax in the first two years in which it accrues from its entry into force (2022 and 2023). However, it includes a clause to review its performance in the framework of an analysis of property taxation, carry out an evaluation to assess its results and propose, where appropriate, its maintenance or suppression.
Its regulation raises a series of questions. In the first place, if it invades the powers of the CCAAs, since art. 19.Two.c) of the LOF-
CA, grants them the following regulatory powers over the IP: “the determination of the minimum exemption and rate, deductions and bonuses”. In our opinion, the ITSGF is a surcharge of that. We find the latter in the justification of the amendment where it is indicated, as one of its main purposes, the harmonization, and the fact that the IP share is deductible.
The Organic Law 8/1980, of September 22, of Financing of the Autonomous Communities (LOFCA), does not contemplate the possibility that the State establishes surcharges on the ceded taxes, since those are state surcharges. However, his art. 12.1 allows it for the CCAAs in certain of them, where the IP is located, as long as they do not imply “a reduction in State revenue from said taxes, nor distort their nature or structure.” Therefore, applying this last provision, but in the opposite direction, the establishment of the ITSGF means distorting the deductions and bonuses established by the CCAAs. In short, a kind of legal fraud against the LOFCA, because it alters the structure of the IP.
Secondly, its application in the year 2022, supposes retroactivity of a medium or improper degree, contrary to a consolidated constitutional doctrine on applying the principle of legal certainty. Because the proposed regulatory amendment entered the Congress of Deputies in November 2022 and is going to be applied this year, it is evident that a tax resident in Spain, whose situation has been consolidated due to the course in our country of 183 days, cannot change it. In addition, in the case of residing in Andalusia, Galicia or Madrid, he means paying a very significant amount for the new tax (the Government foresees 1,500 million euros); hence the decline in that principle is evident.
In third place, art. 12.1 of the LITSGF establishes that the full ITSGF quota, together with the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) and IP
quotas, may not exceed, for taxpayers subject to unlimited tax liability, 60 percent of the sum of the tax bases of the first.
For these purposes, the rules on the limit of the entire IP fee are applicable, “although, if the sum of the fees of the three taxes exceeds the previous limit, the fee of this tax will be reduced until it reaches the indicated limit, without the reduction being able to exceed 80 per 100”. Hence, it can become confiscatory if the tax is applied definitively (art. 23), without limitation to only two years.
Fourthly, the ITSGF “taxes the net worth of natural persons of an amount greater than 3,000,000 euros” (art. 1), so that, from that figure, the taxable base will be taxed with a percentage of 1 ‘7 per 100 and that rises to 3.5 per 100 if it exceeds 10,695,996.06 euros. We think that the application of the limit supposes the consecration of a jump error of difficult constitutional protection, when damaging, among others, the principles of equality and economic capacity of art. 31.1 of the CE.
Fifth, any natural person is taxed by limited tax liability for the assets and rights owned by them, when they are located, could be exercised or had to be fulfilled in Spanish territory (art. 3.Uno of the LITSGF).
Securities representing the participation in own funds of any type of entity, not traded in organized markets, whose assets are made up of at least 50 per cent, directly or indirectly, of real estate are considered to be located in our territory [art. 5.One.b) of Law 19/1991, of June 6, on IP (LIP)].
In order to calculate the asset, the net book values of all the recorded assets will be replaced, on the one hand, by those of the market-determined on the date of accrual of the ITSGF. On the other, in the case of real estate, they must operate as a tax base in each case (art. 10 of the LIP).
Regarding the computation of the liability, only the charges and encumbrances that affect those located in Spanish territory or can be exercised or have to be fulfilled in it, as well as debts for capital invested therein, will be deductible (art. 9.4 of the LIP).
These rules have been introduced by the third final provision of the LITSGF that justifies them, in its Preamble, “to enable the power to encumber shareholdings in non-resident entities with underlying real estate assets located in Spain, thus correcting unjustified discrimination concerning of the resident, since the non-resident, by filing a non-resident legal entity, evades the assessment of said tax”.
The difference outlined in the Preamble indeed existed, but the modification carried out also exists, but in the opposite sense since it discriminates against non-residents compared to residents.
Thus, the former should not substitute values for those provided for in the IP regulations, only apply the rules analyzed, which does not occur in the latter.
In this sense, the criterion traditionally maintained by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU/EU) is that if there is no difference between the objective situation of a resident and a non-resident, any difference in treatment is discriminatory and, therefore, contrary to EU law. In this sense, the STJUE of September 3, 2014 (Commission/Kingdom of Spain, case C-127/2012) declared the breach, by our country, of the obligations incumbent upon it under arts. 63 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and 40 of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, regulators of the free movement of capital, by allowing tax regulations on inheritance and donations to establish differentiated treatment between successors in title and resident grantees and non-residents in Spain, between the deceased residents and non-residents in Spain and between donations and similar dispositions of real estate located in Spanish territory and outside it.
Furthermore, it is that, according to reiterated jurisprudence of the CJEU, “constitute, in particular, restrictions on the movements of capital, within the meaning of Article 63(1) TFEU, measures imposed by a Member State which may discourage investors from that State from making investments in other States, or which may prevent or limit them their possibilities of doing so.
Given the foregoing, it does not seem unreasonable for the CJEU to extend its consolidated line of argument to the discriminatory assumption that we have advanced since the objective situation of the resident and non-resident is identical (the indirect ownership of real estate located in Spanish territory to through corporate forms), the treatment given to them is different.
Sixth, art. 3. Nine of the LITSGF applies the exempt minimum to residents. Its literality offers two interpretations. The first would start from the classification of the minimum as a tax benefit or technical exemption. If so, the discrimination between residents and non-residents is without foundation and, instead, seems to be a mistake by the legislator. Moreover, this is because it is contrary to the community legal system for the same arguments we have exposed when dealing with the indirect ownership of real estate through companies.
The second would be consistent with the qualification of true minimum exemption. If so, it should only apply to residents, who are the ones who are taxed by their world heritage. To do so with non-residents, the former would be treated worse, since the latter only pay taxes for assets and rights located or that can be exercised in our territory.
The STJUE of February 14, 1995 (Roland Schumacker, case
C-279/93) has dealt with this situation, and even though it refers to personal income tax, its arguments can be transferred to property taxation. Part of the fact that “it corresponds to the State of residence, which is the only one that has the right to tax said income, to take into account the personal and family situation, the State in whose territory the non-resident works should not take into account their personal and family situation, since, then, the personal and family situation of the non-resident would be taken into account twice and he would obtain the corresponding tax advantages in both States” (paragraph 40). However, in “a situation such as that of the present case, the State of residence cannot take into account the personal and family situation of the taxpayer, since the tax burden in that country is insufficient to allow it. When this is the case, the Community principle of equal treatment requires that, in the State of employment, the personal and family situation of the non-resident alien be taken into account in the same way as concerning resident nationals and that they be granted the same tax advantages” (paragraph 41).
Once exposed both interpretations and unless the legislator modifies the art. 3. Nine of the LITSGF, it can be defended, following the doctrine of this STJUE, that, given the worldwide absence of figures similar to the ITSGF, it is obligatory to apply the exempt minimum, since in their country of residence, the non-resident does not you will have the right to do so. However, more is needed with Countries that do have them, such as Norway or Switzerland.
In these cases, a double application of minimums may occur. In any case, the dispute and the appeal route are open.
Finally, it is an obvious disincentive to attract new residents to Spain. We have always defended that, considering the above, Spain should reconsider introducing a regime similar to those existing in Italy or Portugal. Our country has all the necessary conditions to become a preferred destination for high-level individuals, even more so when large fortunes in Latin America consider transferring their tax residence and even creating foreign securities holding entities, seeking a legal security framework.
ROBERTO
COIN
The magical ruby signature
The idea of the ruby as a symbolic signature comes from an ancient time and the pages of antique books. The passion for history and mythology led Roberto Coin to discover three very special stories. Three tales that mixed reality and imagination, as is the nature of every true legend, and led him to a fundamental choice for his future.
“The ancient world of legends held in a magical signature.”
he first legend belongs to the world of ancient Egypt. The pharaohs believed that the ruby was a sort of talisman capable of, if kept in contact with the skin, guarantee love, joy and everlasting health.
The second legend narrates the tale of Burmese warriors who wore the ruby for protection on
Tthe battlefield. And lastly, the third legend comes from an old Hindu myth in which rubies were considered to be the precious fruits of the sacred Kalpa tree – the tree of hopes and desires.
Roberto Coin found a passionate, meaningful symbol in the ruby and decided to identify the soul and the mission of his creative world with this little precious stone.
LOVE IN VERONA
Inspired by the city of Verona, symbol of love and set of the love story between Romeo and Juliet, Love in Verona strengthens the bond between Roberto Coin and the Italian cities that inspired him. Love in Verona has a minimal and contemporary look yet holds a soul as ancient as eternal love.
The jewels in the Love In Verona collection are part of the thread that connects the Roberto Coin brand to cities around Italy and takes us on a countrywide tour where the pieces become ambassadors of beauty.
“The ardor of courage, the passion of love and the vitality of hope are combined in a single, heartfelt message of goodwill, hidden away in a little ruby.”
THE BRAND’S STORY
In 1996, for the first time a jewelry collection is signed with a small ruby set on the inside of each of its pieces. This collection is Appassionata and, together with its unusual signature, it marks the beginning of the history of the Roberto Coin brand; a brand driven by its founder’s passion for life and creativity.
Coming from a constant search for new sources of inspiration, every single creation of Roberto Coin is the result of an exciting journey through cultures and influences, nature and landscapes, experienced in a rare balance between the past and the future. Each of his jewels tells a different story, a story that shrouds it in an unmistakable allure of uniqueness and style identity. Every day then the hands of Italian craftsmen, guardians of the ancient traditions of jewelry, are entitled to translate into reality Roberto Coin’s imagination. It is a real universe of miniature masterpieces that comes to life thanks to their ability, each one of them embellished with the famous ruby signature and with a story to tell to the world.
Defined esthetics and experimental design make every jewel a unique example of elegance and innovation, and are the rea-
sons why the brand has become in a very short time one of the best-known name on the international horizon of jewelry.
It didn’t take long also for the worlds of fashion and film to become excited about Roberto Coin’s collections. The jewels appear more and more frequently on the fashion and lifestyle pages of international luxury magazines and have had the honor of shining brightly on many red carpets. Roberto Coin is now universally recognized by the press as a pioneering spirit and the creator of some of the most interesting jewelry trends of the last decade.
With his constant desire to create something new and different, Roberto Coin launches about 5 complete collections every year that are able to fulfill the market’s myriad of desires. The collections are available in over 1,000 boutiques located in 60 countries all around the world. Each one of them is an ambassador with a clear message that conveys the mission of the company’s founder himself: to offer every woman the possibility to own an original and particular piece of jewelry capable to exalt the esthetic and spiritual qualities that make every woman unique and distinct.
“In 1996, for the first time a jewelry collection is signed with a small ruby set on the inside of each of its pieces.”

MICHEL MEEUS
OWNER OF INTERNATIONAL GOLF SCHOOL - THE RANGE
For how long have you been interested in Golf?
How did your passion begin?
I love golf since my youngest age. I was probably around 10. For many years my father was my sole partner and teacher. I used to follow my father to some of the best golf courses in England, France, Portugal and Austria. I lived over 20 years in London till 2008 and was a member of Wentworth, one of the best course in the Uk. Close to my retirement my passion for golf transformed more into an positive addiction.
What motivated you to become the owner of this Golf School?
I knew the Range for over 10 years and I had the opportunity to buy it one year ago.
I had great support from Manuel Cardena, Secretario General del Partido Popular y Teniente de Alcalde Delegado de Deportes and Pablo Mansilla, The President of the Andalusian Golf Federation. We all share the vision to promote golf to the kids and residents of Marbella and bring professionals to Marbella.
What are the latest developments for the near future
We have plenty of projects depending of the extension of the concession to be received very soon from the Ayuntamiento. We want to build a state of the art chipping area with few short holes; we look to bring Trackman or Top Tracer in our facility, create new green and a great adventure golf.
Which kind of client visits The Range?
There is a very wide variety of clients coming to the Range. We have a good mix of Spanish and foreigners, with all the ages and levels being represented.
Why should I choose The Range to practice golf?
The Range is very central and close to Marbella and Puerto Banus. It has 50 covered bays protecting from the rain and strong sun offering nice shadow. Our restaurant The Green is offering healthy food and is open every day. There is a nice playground in a tent for kids.
How many players can The Range accommodate?
The Range has over 50 bays in total, with bunker, green and chipping area. We are often accommodating over 70 clients at the same time.
What other sports do you practice besides golf?
I love tennis and have discovered more recently paddle that is great fun and less agressive than tennis. I go skiing regularly in Sierra Nevada.
Do you have a new project in mind?
We focus to further promote our restaurant The Green and offer food service on The Range. The Green is offering healthy food and is open every weekday from 9:00 till 19:00 and on WE from 9:30 till 19:00.
We have now created a partnership with Decathlon to have all their Inesis Products available at The Range.
One of the most popular Physiotherapists Center Costaspine has opened a centre at the Range offering Massage and other Therapies.
Also we work closely with Gaetan Bikindou with his Vega Truck offering professional fitting advice. He is permanently at the Range with his fully equipped truck.
I hope to create very soon with Spanish partners a brand new range facility near Barcelona.
What are the available offers for children and adults who practice golf?
There are always promotions in our Academy and you could look at them on our website www.therangemarbella.com or on our Instagram @therangemarbella
We have a nice playground in a tent for kids next to the restaurant and we are further developing it.
ROBERTA PANELLI
What is your role at El Lago Restaurant and Greenlife Golf?
“I’ve been working at El Lago Restaurant and Greenlife Golf for three years now. I started out as a hostess at El Lago Restaurant and receptionist at the golf course. Now I’m in charge of the digital marketing, public relations and event organisation for all the facilities.”
What background do you have in the restaurant and tourism sector?
“In 2020, I graduated in Translation and Interpreting, specialising in Marketing. During the pandemic, I reflected on what I really wanted and looked for a new challenge. As soon as it was possible to get back to “normal” life, I booked a flight and moved to Marbella. It was a difficult time, because travel still wasn’t permitted, and we had very few clients. But it did provide me the opportunity to get to know all areas of the company in depth, and to really understand and focus on my goals. I decided to further my training in order to broaden my knowledge and help my company. I’m currently studying for a Master’s in Events Organisation, Protocol and Business Tourism, because I realised that this is the part of my job that I’m most passionate about.”
How do you coordinate such a large team as that of El Lago and Greenlife?
“Communicating in a direct, transparent manner, of course. This is the basis of teamwork. Communication problems cause confusion and stress among employees, which negatively affects their work and lowers morale, and in turn, productivity. What’s more, a team requires leadership and inspiration, therefore setting a good example is essential in order to earn respect. It’s also crucial to recognise effort and results, and important to foster creativity.”
What’s your view of the hospitality sector on the Costa del Sol?
“I think that Marbella and the Costa del Sol have increased in popularity and luxury as a result of the pandemic. This has encouraged the hospitality sector to gain momentum, with more and more establishments opening in recent years. This
reality is possible thanks to its multicultural tourism, and the fact that Marbella has earned a reputation as one of the most exclusive destinations in Spain and Europe.”
Is this a boom time for golf in Andalusia?
“There’s one special quality that makes us the perfect destination for golf enthusiasts, and that’s our excellent climate, as we have a very mild winter. And in the case of Marbella, specifically, it also helps that the city has consolidated itself as one of the best-known destinations in Andalusia. The pandemic had a great impact on the golf sector, as it was the only sport people could do during lockdown. As a result, more and more people, especially younger generations, have taken up the sport. So yes, you could say that golf in Andalusia is enjoying something of a boom.
As for our facilities at Greenlife Golf Club, in addition to the 9-hole course, we have a large driving range, in which we have just made a major investment to install Toptracer technology. The future of golf is becoming more and more technological and, as in everything, you have to be up to date. We have 28 stations on two floors, and in the centre of the course, we’ve installed five different coloured targets to make the game even more fun. With this new structure, we’ve become the largest Toptracer centre in Andalusia, an added appeal for the Marbella area and for the Costa del Sol.”
How would you encourage someone who’s never been to El Lago to visit the restaurant?
“El Lago is a magical setting that has always fascinated me, even as a child, when I used to walk around the terrace of the restaurant, without knowing that one day I would be part of the team. I’m confident that anyone who comes here will not only appreciate the restaurant’s cuisine, but will also be captivated by its charm. El Lago is a popular choice of venue to celebrate important, special, romantic occasions, as well as to have a good time with friends and enjoy haute cuisine.”
“Every day, we work as a team to provide the best service to our clients, paying careful attention to every last detail and request we receive.”

In 2015, I opened my beauty studio in the heart of Paris. By appointment only, I received my clients in a beautiful, peaceful private apartment. My most demanding clients appreciated the calm, caring ambience. I offered women 100% natural treatments, combining tradition and refinement. Ancestral beauty secrets from all over the world, cleverly mixed to obtain immediately visible and long-lasting results.
A unique, pure, sophisticated Lifestyle collection, inspired by beauty traditions from around the world
As I dedicate so much time and attention to embellishing my clients’ lifestyle, wardrobes and interiors, I have created exceptional and truly unique pieces, all entirely made by hand. My creations add a touch of elegance and sophistication, whether to a room or a silhouette.
This collection is founded on eco-sustainable values, which not only I esteem, but also my clients, who seek authenticity and are increasingly sensitive to earthly knowledge.
I have taken great pride in this first Lifestyle accessory collection. Each piece faithfully represents my own personal concept of luxury and authenticity. Our designs are timeless, elegant and cosy. They are respectful to nature, and a real tribute to this ancestral heritage, for which I have a passion and deep respect.
Pure Comfort, Authentic Luxury Collection
A staple in every summer wardrobe, foutas are a must-have accessory while lounging by the pool or sunbathing. Also for the spa, sauna, steam room, or simply getting out of the bath, they are fine yet very absorbent.
Is there any particular reason for choosing Marbella?
Marbella, especially in recent years, has become the most highly demanded residential destination in Europe. Moreover, the city offers an outstanding quality of life.
As each apartment or villa project is unique, our idea is to offer everyone an exclusive, unforgettable scent. According to the location, setting, decoration, and atmosphere you want, you can choose the perfect option.
My collection is aimed at individuals, as beach-wear or outfits for evening cocktails, as well as interior designers, hotels, or spas who wish to provide their clients with a unique, refined, elegant product that is eco-responsible and of the highest quality.
Marbella has a very pleasant climate throughout the year, so it is the ideal place to use and wear my items.
How and where are JK Beauty Beldi Fouta towels and robes made?
Our fouta towels and robes are made by Turkish artisans who have grown up with the tradition of weaving, in remote villages from Central & Southern Anatolia to the South East of Turkey. Apart from the work of these artisans and a few scattered individuals, there is virtually nothing left of Turkey’s once-thriving weaving industry. In just 35 years, practically all the country’s traditional weaving villages have disappeared.
Organic Natural - Handmade - Ecological - Healthier Hygiene
The towel you are about to use is UNLIKE ANY OTHER you have ever used before.

Christina Colding THE ALCHEMY JOURNEY
A path to self-discovery through breathwork, sound healing and voice activation
From this April, Christina Colding, a holistic healer and master of vibrational and sound adventures, joins Marbella Club Wellness as an in-house expert.
She is widely travelled and has lived in many places around the world, touched various cultures and crossed many forms of ancient wisdom teachings, cultivating a unique level of insight and consciousness.
“Facilitating Breathwork and Sound Healing ceremonies is a result of a lifelong spiritual quest, healing traumas, burnout, depression etc., which I have turned into my present-day resilience and intuitive guidance skill.”
Her signature meditative experience, The Alchemy Journey, blends breathwork and electronic music, followed by the soothing sounds of the alchemy crystal singing bowls and voice activation.
“How I empower clients is by turning their awareness to breathing, and consciously taking steps to improve the quality of the way they breathe. Using breathing can transform the negatively-charged energy in our system, while at the same time deepening our expe-
rience with life positively, and tapping into our inner wisdom for true purpose.”
The Alchemy Journey is for those who wish to dive in and explore more about themselves, and experience transformation on multiple levels - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Through breathwork and sound healing, it is possible to enter into non-ordinary states of consciousness, which are like deep meditation and profound relaxation. This is a wonderful way of nurturing the body, mind and soul.
“Everything in existence is energy, vibration in different frequencies, so we are merely fine-tuning our body temple like an instrument… I teach my clients that their greatest asset is their vibration; it is the very signature we send out into the world.”
Each sound bath is a unique experience of vibrational sound, which leads to self-exploration and profound healing.
As an artist, Christina thrives on constant creation and beautiful surroundings, which has resulted in many incredible ventures with sound healing, such as: celebrity weddings; features in Vogue or on the BBC; collaborations with venues like Six Senses Ibiza, Nobu Ibiza, Soho House CPH, and now the Marbella Club Hotel.
With Exclusive Life Magazine, she will launch the first ever Sound Healing experience while an extremely talented artist paints in a live art event. Christina is also available for private sessions for individuals, groups and corporate events.

Vertical gardens, a trend?
he beauty of a vertical garden for the interior design is that it allows nature to take over the decoration.
Due to its great decorative appeal, environmental and health benefits, as well as its versatility, vertical gardens have ceased to be a trend to become an important element to take into account and include in every interior or exterior design space. Both in private environments as public, even as photocalls at fairs.
With the right selection of plants, pots, and accessories, you can create a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. From vibrant flowers and foliage to edible plants, there are plenty of options to choose from.
The key to creating a successful vertical garden interior design is to think outside the box.
You don’t have to limit yourself to traditional plants and containers.
There are many unique options that can add interesting and vibrant touches to your space.
Consider using artificial plants, as well as hanging plants and pots. There is also a variety of materials such as metal, glass and ceramic, which can be used to create interesting and functional pieces for your vertical garden.
To ensure your success, it’s important to do your research on the plants you choose. Take into account the light and water needs of each plant, as well as its space needs. It’s also important to research the right pots and plants for the space you have.
When you do the installation, make sure that it is well installed so that it receives the right amount of sunlight and water.
And if you do not feel safe, do not hesitate to consult a professional who will always be happy to help you.

CHÂTEAUX IN FRANCE
Nobility in the Loire Valley
France has more than 40,000 stunning castles and fortresses, the majority of which were built during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. They rival each other in architectural prowess and beauty in all their splendour.
The romantic atmosphere of these châteaux bewitches all their visitors. Just taking a stroll and getting a closer look at them invites you to let your imagination soar and envision yourself living like a king.
Most of these spectacular châteaux are concentrated in the Loire Valley region, a World Heritage Site visited by many in pursuit of their architectural legacy on a route across France that connects the most iconic castles.
There are châteaux of all styles, although the one thing they have in common is the serene beauty of the constructions whose walls possess nobility, and their interiors, the legacy of a rich history.
CHÂTEAU DE CHAMBORD, ETERNAL MAJESTY
Château de Chambord is located between Blois and Orléans, and is always included in the lists of the ten most beautiful French châteaux. Built in the 16th century, it is the dream come true of King Francis I, and was built by some of the finest builders and artists of the Renaissance. The interior does not fall short of its marvellous exterior architecture and its incredible French-style gardens. Attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, the double helix staircase topped by an impressive ceiling is well worth seeing. Likewise, the Royal Chapel and the private chambers of Louis XIV, known as the Sun King.
To contemplate a unique panoramic view of the castle, the locals recommend you head towards the north-west side of the moat. In sunny weather, the château is reflected in the water, as if gazing into a fragile mirror.
CHÂTEAU DE CHAUMONT-SUR-LOIRE, A FAIRYTALE CASTLE
Located between Blois and Amboise, within the Loire Valley region, the construction of this fairytale castle began in the 10th century. For five centuries it was owned by the Amboise family, but in 1465, it was completely burned to the ground and rebuilt again, to be bought by Catherine de Medici in 1550.
Château de Chaumont-Sur Loire has hosted illustrious guests, from the astrologer Nostradamus to the Duke of Anjou, who stayed there on his way to being crowned King of Spain, in 1700. Since 1840, when it was listed as a Historical Monument, it has been under the care of the French government.
Nowadays, Château de Chaumont-Sur Loire hosts the International Garden Festival from April through to October. This
event attracts numerous visitors eager to enjoy the most innovative garden designers’ proposals, showcasing their creations against the backdrop of an English-style garden.
CHÂTEAU DE CHENONCEAU, FEMININE BEAUTY
Château de Chenonceau is located 30 kilometres from Tour, in the department of Indre-et-Loire, and spanning the river Cher. Its arches reflecting in the water on bright days makes such a picturesque setting that no visitor is left indifferent.
Its architecture combines late Gothic and early Renaissance styles. It is known as The Ladies’ Castle, because of the many aristocratic women who were captivated by it. Illustrious figures such as Catherine de Medici, Louise of Lorraine and Diane de Poitiers all fell under the spell of its charm and palatial elegance.
The interior conceals magnificent bedrooms, a pharmacy and an enormous ballroom. It is easy to envision the gatherings among the nobility that were held here, in which the festivities would begin at sundown and last through until dawn.
POLO
a “sport of kings” and 3 reasons that explain why
PHOTO: MATÍAS CALLEJOExclusivity, wealth and prestige are a few of the terms associated with this sport of Persian origin that has conquered the aristocracy since its beginnings more than 25 centuries ago.
Polo and aristocracy go hand in hand. Dating back to 500 BC in ancient Persia, polo is still high society’s sport par excellence, and a strong favourite with today’s celebrities. From the very beginning, it became the ultimate status symbol among elites, from Persia itself, to Arabia, Tibet, Japan or China, later extending to Western Europe, and in particular to the United Kingdom.
This is undoubtedly how polo came to be known as a sport for the wealthy that only a select few can access, but why exactly is this the case?
1. SUMMIT MEETING FOR ROYAL FAMILIES
Polo occupies an undisputed place among the sports associated with royal families and their entourage, along with golf, horse-riding or sailing. Apart from the economic dimension, this sport represents a true tradition among the aristocracy. For this reason, Sotogrande not only welcomes members of the Spanish Royal Family, but also others, such as the British, Malaysian or Brunei royal families every summer. Among them, Prince Harry has enjoyed watching Spanish polo matches from the stands, and also taking part on the fields of Ayala Polo Club.
2. HIGH ECONOMIC COST
Polo is one of the most expensive sport disciplines in the world. Being able to afford everything involved (owning three or four horses, plus equipment, maintenance, registration fees, etc) is quite an economic privilege.
However, as one of the fastest-growing sports among those with a high spending power, polo also generates a large number of jobs. During the season, which starts in May and lasts throughout the summer, the prestigious Sotogrande International Polo Tournament, with 52 years of history, is organised and hosted by Ayala Polo Club, one of the best polo clubs in the world. “The figures that this sport moves are more than 35 million euros in 3 months” - according to Ayala Polo Club.
3. LUXURIOUS AMBIENCE
It is not only a question of the cost of simply practising or engaging in the sport, everything related to polo is synonymous with luxury, exclusivity and privileges. The numerous tournaments that take place during the season include experiences that range from the most cutting-edge cuisine, to live music and even luxury shopping areas. A proposal that elevates this plan for the summer to the highest levels.
“Ayala Polo Club is indisputably making a firm commitment to the Sotogrande area in general and to polo in particular, by continuing to take charge of the full management of the International Polo Tournament, first undertaken two years ago. Its economic and human effort have been increased in order to achieve a sporting and social event of the highest order, positioning it as the best polo tournament to be found in continental Europe.” - Antonio Alés, CEO of Ayala Polo Club.
During this season, Ayala Polo Club takes a step further, positioning Sotogrande as a worldwide polo reference. It is the place to be in summer, with leisure options that range from terraces at the foot of the field, evening entertainment with dj’s and live music, gourmet food, shopping areas with stands of luxury brands, private parties, and even a children’s play area for the little ones to enjoy.
Tippi Hedren
The heads and tails of cinema
Nathalie Hedren, better known as Tippi Hedren, was born in Minnesota (USA) in 1930, and is one of the last legendary actresses of the golden age of Hollywood cinema.
TEXT: EVA DEL AMO
Tippi Hedren is the daughter of a Swedish father and a German-Norwegian mother who emigrated to California. Although her real name is Nathalie, the nickname Tippi, as her father called her and by which she is known all over the world, is a play on “tupsa”, which means “sweetheart” in Swedish.
At a very early age, Hedren was already a department store model, and when she was 20, she went to New York to try her luck as a professional model. In less than a year she had made her film debut, but it was when director Alfred Hitchcock cast her in the film “The Birds” that she achieved fame, winning a Golden Globe for Best Female Newcomer and making her well-known all over the world.
Hitchcock cast Hedren to play the role in his film after seeing an advert for Sego diet drinks starring a very young Tippi. Her classic elegance turned out to be a great success, admired by critics and audiences alike.
A TOUGH SHOOT
However, the filming of “The Birds” was a terrible ordeal for the actress due to the demands of the director, who forced her to repeat scenes to the point of exhaustion. Tippi was injured in the last scene of the film, under the attack of a flock of live birds, thrown at her by members of the crew following the orders of Hitchcock, who was determined to make the filming as realistic as possible. As a result, one of the birds just missed the actress’s left eye, leaving her with a deep flesh wound. The blood that appears in the film is real. Once the director had yelled “cut”, Hedren collapsed, sobbing from sheer exhaustion. Under doctor’s orders, she was put on sick leave for a week before returning to finish the film.
Years later, the actress claimed that Hitchcock was obsessed with her, to the point of suffering harassment. As she confessed, and her filming companions corroborated, he insisted that she should not meet the rest of the crew, isolating her from her colleagues.
Invitations to dinner every night gave way to more explicit sexual harassment, and the actress’s refusals resulted in Hitchcock, who had an exclusive contract with the actress for two years, not allowing her to make any more films during this time. “I’ve made mistakes in my life, but saying no to Hitchcock was not one of them,” Hedren stated.
After starring in the psychological drama “Marnie”, and once she was free again, the actress went on to star in more than 80 films and television programmes, including Charlie Chaplin’s last film, “A Countess from Hong Kong” with Marlon Brando and Sophia Loren. Her prestigious career led to her receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
AN ANIMAL LOVER
Shooting two films in Africa in 1969 marked a turning point in Tippi Hedren’s life. In an attempt to raise awareness re-
garding the plight of African lions, she set up the Roar Foundation, a non-profit organisation to support the Shambala Preserve.
The film “The Great Roar” was the trigger for her to establish this sanctuary in California that takes in animals that cannot be returned to the wild, including those used by Hollywood in their filming, and lions from Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.
In her personal life, Tipi Hedren has been married four times. Her only daughter, Melanie Griffith, was born from her first marriage. Now retired from the world of cinema, she has occasionally been seen on the red carpet, accompanying her granddaughter, Dakota Johnson. Her style and natural elegance led to her being voted the sexiest actress alive by Glam’mag in its March 2023 issue, at the age of 93.
Es arte gallery organised two events for the presentation of the artist. The first one, on the 31st of March with a vernissage for collectors and friends and the second one, on the 14th of April. A colourful lunch with an interesting presentation by the artist Carles Azcon who talked about the meaning of his work and concluded with a raffle of one of his pieces.
Carles Azcón, a young artist committed to the environment, whose creative force is driven by the need to capture the splendour of nature.
These are paintings, some of them in large format, in which the colour green predominates with an almost blinding intensity, as if it were a cry emerging from the depths of the earth, with a message of awareness that we cannot ignore.
The abstract gesture of Azcón’s brushstrokes resolve the photosynthesis of colour, creating stains that in their interaction wink at a guration of great expressive quality, enveloping the spectator in a unique experience.
ON MARCH 25TH WE WELCOMED THE EXHIBITION “FUTURE REMAINS” BY PIM PALSGRAAF AT WADSTRÖM TÖNNHEIM GALLERY IN MARBELLA
Inspired by the decay and irregularities of the city, Pim Palsgraaf (b. 1979 in the Netherlands) explores the discord between nature and urbanity. His work is a result of an ongoing investigation into the erosion of the inner city, finding fascination in empty spaces that are about to collapse, where nature is stepping in to take over. The installation for Wadström Tönnheim Gallery is a unique site-specific artwork that responds to the architectural features of the exhibition space. The piece with the title ‘Membrane structures’ aims to create a thought-provoking experience for viewers, inviting them to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature and the artwork creates an illusion of movement and dynamism.
On display at Wadström Tönnheim Gallery in La Poligono Nueva Campana, Local 37B until the 28 of May.

Boho Club Restaurant presents a new concept of gastronomic event with A Memoir. A proposal that combines history, culture, and gastronomy, where the common thread is the memories of a chef conceptualized in experiences.
Boho Club presents A Memoir, a total of five gastronomic experiences by Diego del Río. As if it were a book of memoirs, during this year, the chef will recreate his professional career in the kitchen in five chapters and with different tasting menus, prepared together with the kitchen colleagues who have marked his history: Juanjo Carmona, Cávala (Málaga); Celia Jiménez, Restaurante Celia Jiménez (Córdoba); Daniel Ochoa, Montia (El Escorial. Madrid); Miguel Ángel de la Cruz, La Botica (Matapozuelos, Valladolid); Julio Vázquez, El Campero (Barbate, Cádiz); Mauro Barreiro, La curiosidad de Mauro Barreiro (Cádiz); Pedro Aguilera, Mesón Sabor Andaluz (Alcalá del Valle, Cádiz); Daniel López, Kokotxa (San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa); and Álvaro Garrido, Mina (Bilbao, Bizkaia).
In the words of Diego del Río himself: “A Memoir is an excuse to pay tribute, in the form of events told in chapters and conceptualized in different menus, to all those professionals who have marked my career as a chef. An ephemeral legacy embodied in the form of unique events, whose succession of events aims to leave a testimony of experiences in which I have learnt, of which I have dreamed. Thus, my memories and anecdotes will be captured in the form of the dishes prepared together with my colleagues”,
Each experience or chapter of A Memoir will have a limited capacity and a price per person of €190, which includes the wine pairing proposed by Boho Club’s sommelier, Richard Mena. Tickets can be booked through the Boho Club website: https://bohoclub.com/es/a-memoir-donde-la-experiencia-supera-al-paladar
