GET TO vs. GOT TO It’s all a matter of perspective. Not too long ago, Troy and I were doing morning walks across the Biloxi Bridge, getting in 3 miles each day. One morning I told Troy begrudgingly, “I’ve Just Got To Get To The Other Side Of The Bridge.” Troy looked at me and said, “It is a lot easier if you think of it as a GET TO versus Got To. You get to look at the beautiful view as you cross the bridge.” What if we all looked at life with the perspective of Get To versus Got To? In life we GET TO experience so many things each and every day that some wish they had the chance to do. We have heard several say, I’ve got to go show houses. What if we changed just one word and said “I GET TO go show houses.” Realize, as a Realtor we get the opportunity to be part of a process that is monumental to everyone. And we are blessed with the ability to show houses with our profession as a Realtor. We are even blessed with the physical ability to get out and show houses. We have heard, and are also guilty ourselves of saying, “I’ve got to go get groceries.” The fact is, we are blessed that we GET TO go buy groceries. Many people do not have the means to buy enough food for themselves or their families. Some may not have the transportation to even go get food. And in this country we are blessed with many places and options to go get food and necessary items. So many times we all use the wrong word. Nothing in life is a GOT to, it’s all a GET TO. Life itself is a GET TO. We are blessed in so many ways, but many times we are missing that blessing because we are using the wrong word and emotion. When you change just one word it can bring a whole new meaning and also makes us realize the blessing in front of us.

Can you find the blessings in the statements above? When you look at all the kids that are being homeschooled right now, I know it is tough, and it is a change, but when they are grown, those kids will look back and cherish the quality time they got to spend with their parents. The parents will also appreciate that special time. We may not see it right now but we will all look back and cherish the time that we spent with our loved ones during the pandemic. And for

those of us that did not have loved ones to shelter in place with, we will cherish family relationships even more. Maybe we could all look at this year differently. Has it been challenging? YES! But are there blessing to be found in this year? Absolutely! Maybe year “2020” is all about finding the right vision on how we see things...Maybe we should all focus on what we GET TO do and not what we’ve GOT to do. Find blessings in your day and know that we all GET TO do this wonderful thing called LIFE. We appreciate each and every one of you. With Love, Troy and Kathy

NEWS UPDATE! Hello EXIT Family! With everything going on in the world we find ourselves adapting to a new normal at every turn. EXIT’s “adaptation” is built right into the Formula, so many of our associates are thankfully able to still move forward with their day-to-day business. Residuals are doing exactly what they were created for - filling in the gaps between closings. How awesome is that?! Unfortunately, some things do need to be altered, and these decisions did not come easily, particularly with our Training and Events Department. All current and some upcoming face-to-face trainings (Broker Owner, MINDSET, etc.) have been cancelled. Of course, we have received inquiries as to the fate of our most anticipated event of the year, The EXIT International Convention, and unfortunately, we must announce that it too is cancelled. This decision was very difficult as we know what it means to our associates and our EXIT culture. There is no other event like it. The confusing statistics, uncertainty of the symptoms, lack of clear research and the ever-changing number of cases makes it very difficult to plan responsibly. Restrictions at the venue would cause us to change the event so drastically that it would be impossible to provide the same experience you have come to expect, and that we would be proud to deliver. As much as we did not want to go this route, it is the corporately responsible thing to do. All associates now have the option to cancel their convention registration for a full refund. To manage your tickets, you can log onto the RC, click EXITize Me, then EXIT Convention, and “Click here for more details” under Registration. For anyone who has already cancelled their registration, the $75 fee will be refunded as well. If you do plan on cancelling, please do so prior to August 31st, 2020. You can email convention@exitrealty.com if you have any questions. If you have already made your hotel accommodations at the Omni Amelia Island, your reservation should have already been cancelled automatically by the hotel. On a positive note, you also have the option to keep this year’s registration in force and we will transfer it to the 2021 convention. The benefit of this, of course, is that you will be able to keep the 2020 rates. Once next year’s registration opens in the fall the registration rates will increase. As a special incentive, for anyone transferring their current registration to the 2021 convention you will receive an extra 2 ballots in the grand prize draw! Any registrations not cancelled by August 31st, 2020, will be automatically transferred to next year’s event. On an even more positive note, we would like to announce the location of our event next year! We have been to this venue once before and it was an overwhelming success. It was a non-stop experience full of fun, excitement, fabulous food and magic. We are excited to announce that our 2021 venue for the EXIT Realty Corp. International Convention will be the Disneyland Resort® in Anaheim, CA, October 19th - 22nd! Again, keep your eye on your emails for more info! Hope you are safe, healthy and in good company. FOCUS Focus is so important, especially as this year has not gone as most people planned and we’ve already had several distractions. Because of this, I thought I would share some easy ways to get focused and stay focused. First, you need to know what you want – what your goals are. How many transactions? Income for the year? Number of sponsors? That gives you a target. You see, we cannot hit a target we do not have. Following are the top ways I have found to stay focused: 1. Do not begin and end your day with your phone. Take deliberate breaks from it. 2. Start your day in quiet. 3. Do affirmations daily. 4. Have a vision board with goals and dreams. 5. Keep a small list of your goals with you. 6. Before you head to work, close your eyes for 120 seconds and picture how you want the day to go. 7. Every time you get distracted or overwhelmed take some deep breaths. It will calm you and help you to refocus. 8. At the end of your workday take another 120 seconds to close your eyes and ask yourself what worked today. When you open your eyes, write it down so you start tomorrow focused in the right direction. 9. When you get home put your phone away for at least an hour to show your family and your significant other how important they are to you. Actions speak louder than words. I hope this helps you to feel more fulfilled.

The week of July 19th was nothing short of GRAND! From the amazing leaders, fabulous new offices, comradery, powerful teamwork, refreshments, details - even right down to the customized masks; new offices across the region celebrated in a GRAND fashion (Covid-friendly of course)! Regional Owners, Troy and Kathy Dooley, and Franke Joehl, Director of Operations, traveled 4 states, held 6 Grand Openings in 2 states, met with 2 new owners, sold a franchise, held a Leadership Summit, and renewed an amazing franchisee for another 5 years, while traveling over 2000 miles. Now, one of the most GRAND aspects of the week was having Tami Bonnell, CEO of EXIT Realty Corp. International, take part in this phenomenal week. She spent the entire week in our region visiting offices, Brokers, Owners, and Administrators. Tami has a true passion for EXIT Realty and people, and strives daily to share both of those with anyone she meets. He was a veteran wanting to use a VA loan. In those days, if you can believe it, the average sales price was $35,000 and qualifying for the Million Dollar Club was a real accomplishment. I had scheduled three showings that day and kept what I knew was the best for last. Excitement built as we turned the corner into a short cul-de-sac with a small sloping hill where at the top on the left was a cute two-bedroom, 1600 sq. ft. house, yellow with white shutters. You could see the house well from there, so I stopped in the street, pointed, and said, “It’s that yellow one at the top.” I was not expecting the squeal that came from the backseat. The rear door flew open and the young lady began to run up the hill, both hands over her mouth crying like a little girl saying, “I love it!” First Listing, $155,000 - Conventional Loan: On another day, as I listened to a couple at their kitchen table explain why they needed to sell their elegant 2300 sq. ft. California ranch style home, the husband told me that they had lost their teenage son in an accident and his mother could no longer go down the hall to his bedroom. She had to get out. I could not help but to choke up as I explained my services and the CMA. Not a hard close, just the facts. I was holding both of their hands across the table, telling them I would work quickly to get it sold. What I love about our business is that when we are prepared to engage fully in this job, that is what we do. Repeatedly. We are either helping people solve a problem or we are helping people realize a dream. Over the years I have found equal joy and pride in both. The key to our job as real estate professionals is to prepare ourselves to lead with empathy, to listen, understand, and then do what it takes to make it happen. This is our ‘why’ when someone asks the question, “Why are you in real estate?” It’s not to make money, have flexible hours or because we just love houses. No, it’s because we love people. We love getting the training we need, adding designations, building a team of solid service providers around us so that we can do what we do best: Serve.
