Circumstances Don’t Define You Wow, Christmas is upon us already, and the end of the year could not come quick enough for most! By now, many of you may have seen one of the virtual photos of this year’s Christmas Tree as it arrived in New York at Rockefeller Center. It really looked pitiful when it first arrived. It was tattered and torn from the top to the bottom. The journey from upstate New York really took its toll on the tree. You probably also saw the comments about the tree when it arrived as the pictures started to circulate. Horrible names like Covid Christmas Tree, Charlie Brown Christmas tree, or a tree fitting the year of 2020. As we watched all this play out on social media and tv we realized there was a moral to this story... Let’s reflect on all our lives this past year and the journey we have been on. We have all been tattered and torn by the crazy twists and turns of this year. All of us had to change how we live our daily lives. What started as a great new year at the beginning of 2020 quickly took a turn for the worse. We spiraled into a worldwide pandemic that basically shut the world down, and we became hermits by sheltering in place. Shortly after, we saw our nation being burned and pillaged during riots and civil unrest. And, this fall we saw storms and natural disasters in many areas of the country. Then to top it all off, we went into an election that seemed to polarize neighbor versus neighbor. We would say it’s been a rough journey, much like the Christmas Tree had to go thru to get to Rockefeller Center. But there is more, and it’s time to heal personally, and for our nation to come together as one. Let’s compare what we have gone thru with that of the Christmas Tree. You see, someone saw potential in that tree while it was in the ground in Upstate New York; just as we see potential in each and every one of you. We know you all have had a rough year, with some experiencing greater loss than others. Our thoughts and prayers have been with each and every one of you. Remember, all of you have unbelievable potential and talent, and now is the time for you to shine much like the PHOTO TAKEN FROM ETONLINE.COM A Publication of EXIT Realty Alabama & Mississippi

beautiful Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center. The Christmas tree always had the potential and ability to be a beacon of joy and peace to millions. It just had to endure the journey. You have endured your journey, now is your time to shine. We are coming to the end of the year and the journey has not been smooth, but each and every one of you are filled with amazing potential. You are unique and wonderfully made. You have a reason and a purpose to be here. So no matter what you have gone thru, that does not define you. You are not a product of your circumstances. You are defined by what is inside you. And

“

much like the Christmas Tree that now stands proud and beautiful in Rockefeller Center, you also can walk proudly into 2021 knowing that great things are in store for you. You will change lives and create opportunities for all the families and communities you serve as you step into the new year. We know that this upcoming year is going to provide you with opportunities to show the world the potential that is inside you. This is your year and we are so excited to see you shine. Merry Christmas To All,

Each of you are unique and wonderfully made. You have a purpose in this world, to change lives and create opportunities.

WHY AM I THANKFUL To me, the Christmas/Holiday season is all about gratitude and appreciation. The incredible challenges of 2020 have been severe worldwide. They have tested everyone beyond question. I fully appreciate how everyone at EXIT Realty has risen to the occasion arm-in-arm with a positive mental attitude, while providing excellent service to all of our customers and clientele. I’m proud of each and every one of you, and I consider it an absolute blessing that the magnetic draw of this company has attracted people like you. Each individual has rolled up their sleeves, put their work boots on and done exemplary work. I am so grateful for you and all you do. EXIT has a superb reputation everywhere because of this mindset and this dynamic action. I salute you and congratulate you for your courage, optimism and enthusiasm under tremendous stress, and for your resilience no matter the circumstances. EXIT Realty Corp. International is tailored specifically to be the largest and most productively successful real estate operation in the world. You and all of our Associates are the special assets forming its foundation. In this regard, I am especially thankful, grateful and appreciative for being blessed with the opportunity to introduce sponsoring with the EXIT Formula of single-level residuals into the real estate industry. My request in this regard is that every EXIT Associate throughout North America take on the very special mission of sponsoring – at a bottomline minimum – three well-intentioned, good-hearted, success-oriented people to help build and stabilize EXIT. I know there are many who will do much more than this. Some make a business out of it, and this pleases me beyond all measure. Just imagine - 10% of the top for as long as they stay with the company, plus a 7% retirement payout and a 5% beneficiary bene-fit! This is my idea of a perpetual Christmas present. I want and expect over 100,000 salespeople who love and respect this com-pany. I fully appreciate all of your efforts in this regard. Your life will simply blossom when sponsoring becomes your specialty. Think three per year, every year. When you do, WE OWN IT! On behalf of everyone at EXIT, I wish you and yours the very best of everything now and always. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a very successful closure to 2020. Next year is going to be absolutely FABULOUS!

Residual income is passive income that comes in every month whether you show up or not. It’s when you no longer get paid on your personal efforts alone, but you get paid on the efforts of hundreds or even thousands of others and on the efforts of your money! Chief Executive Officer EXIT Realty Corp International Article from realestateindustryleaders.com DECEMBER 14,2020

HEART AND SOUL I am an information junkie and one of the many newsletters I receive is from The Motley Fool, which is all about investing. I was interested to learn about their Ownership Portfolio which focuses on the stocks of companies where the founder is still in control. The return on this portfolio has been a whopping 650%. There’s a lot to be said for the success of companies where the visionary who founded the company is still in charge, and I believe that speaks to who we are at EXIT Realty. EXIT is a 24-year-old, privately held company founded by Steve Morris whose hands are firmly on the reins today. Steve created our unique business model, the EXIT Formula, which is the foundation of a company built on human potential. He then attracted like-minded people who believed in his vision and who wanted to put their heart and soul into it, too. We’re witnessing a revolving door of CEOs in the real estate industry, some of whom have no real estate experience whatsoever. They signed on because they received a package, and they have a parachute. Some are paid a fortune when they leave. And on to the next. Motley Fool studied companies like Zoom and Fiverr and discovered a picture of stakeholder management where the founders are in control. They have an expansive mindset with a vision to create something

Chief Operating Officer EXIT Realty Corp International Article from EXIT MOMENTUM, VOLUME 10, ISSUE 11

Adapting to Change = SURVIVAL That’s a strong statement and Darwin’s quote was originally referring to evolution, but it is not only dinosaurs that die out. Businesses that fail to adapt and change also fail to survive. In this fast-changing world it is imperative that people in our industry learn to adapt to those changes, or their success in the industry will die. This is true not only in the real estate industry but also in other industries, as well as in many aspects of life. Consumers are being bombarded from all angles with online marketing from competing companies, including companies offering to buy their homes and claiming to make their lives easier. There are companies that are embracing a technology-only model. The REALTORS® who will succeed are those who are flexible in their thinking, embrace technology and ensure that they are educated about their local market so that they become a trusted advisor to their client base. Never is there a time where the public needs a trusted advisor more than today. Now is the time to embrace the tools and technology that EXIT provides and become comfortable with those tools. Remember to also feed your mind with powerful podcasts like Bob McKinnon’s Leader’s Path and the Brian Buffini Show. The REALTORS® who will thrive will combine that knowledge with technology, while focusing on building relationships in order to build a business that is sustainable into the future. This year has unfolded in a manner that none of us ever expected. We have been thrown a curveball that has not been seen in 100+ years, which has caused a range of emotions. There is uncertainty and fear in people who are unsure of their future livelihood. There is anxiety about health and finances, and governments around the world are struggling to adapt so that they can lead in the best interests of their people. There is a lack of human connection that has an unseen but profound effect on all of us. So, while we must embrace technology, we must balance that with the human element. We must adapt and find a safe way to connect with each other. It is evident by the number of award winners in our recent virtual recognition ceremony that many of our EXIT associates have learned the importance of adapting in this quickly changing environment. Our superstars have quickly mastered how to balance health protocols and technology to market and sell properties. Some of our agents have experienced their best year ever. I have also seen many examples of ingenuity in maintaining personal connections in a time where people are craving human interaction more than ever before. From our executives to our regional owners to our broker owners, EXIT leaders stepped up and never waivered. Our trainers and coaches stepped up and gave fully of themselves, and I commend their efforts. It is time for all of us to reinvent ourselves, just as Steve Morris reinvented the real estate model when he launched this great company 24 years ago with a drive and focus that fanned his incredible idea into flame. I have never felt so proud to be part of the EXIT family. One of our brokers recently made this statement on Facebook and I could not agree more: “If there is a recurring message in 2020, and there is, we are not to take a single moment for granted.” Sheila Tidwell, EXIT Realty East Nashville. Let’s remember to be thankful for every moment and every smile we give and receive. Let’s live with an attitude of gratitude, tolerance, and kindness. Let’s never forget the importance of the human connection in everything we do. 8

A Half a Billion Dollars Changes Lives

S

By exitrealty

teve Morris, Founder and Chairman of EXIT Realty Corp. International, recently announced that the single-level residual income paid to-date by the company to EXIT associates across the U.S. and Canada has topped a half a billion dollars.

“If someone were to set about creating a real estate company founded and built on human potential, they would invent a unique business model which fosters an atmosphere of mentorship and offers a pathway to unlimited income. Then they would work to strengthen each individual from the inside out, providing the tools for them to learn and grow, not only as real estate professionals but as parents, spouses, friends, and neighbors. This is the company Steve Morris created,” said Tami Bonnell, EXIT Realty’s CEO. The company’s business model known as the EXIT Formula provides the opportunity for real estate agents, franchisees and regional owners to earn an income stream in addition to taking listings and closing transactions by helping to grow the company. During economic upheavals like those caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic where real estate was declared an essential service in some areas but not all, receiving a paycheck from EXIT’s corporate offices helped many associates weather the storm when they couldn’t serve clients. “EXIT’s Formula not only provides the opportunity to earn an income during retirement and leave a legacy, but it also helps to fill the gaps between closings for busy, productive agents,” said Bonnell. “Through all facets of life and through all market shifts for the past twenty-four years, the EXIT Formula has changed lives a half a billion times. EXIT Realty truly is real estate, humanized.” See the original article on EXIT Realty’s blog site: RealEstateIndustryLeaders.com

OBSERVATIONS

FRANKE JOEHL

Director of Operations EXIT Realty of Alabama & Mississippi

That’s a Wrap This past year has definitely been a wild ride. Every time I thought I had something figured out, there was something new to learn. I’ll always remember the lessons that this year taught me. Hindsight will always be 20/20 Of course, there are exceptions to this rule, but never regret your decisions because at one point it was exactly what you wanted. Things will change, and you’ll grow from the choices you’ve made, so use them as life learning experiences instead of regretting the actions that temporarily led you off track. Find your own Magic 118 Days. That is the amount of days that Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom was closed this year. That was 118 days that I had to find my own magic.

10

D ECEMBER 2020

Disney is a place that I can walk into those gates and truly decompress from my day to day life. Each of us has a dream, a heart’s desire. It calls to us. And when we’re brave enough to listen, and bold enough to pursue, that dream will lead us on a journey to discover who we’re meant to be. All we have to do is look inside our hearts and unlock the magic within. you are the key to unlocking your own magic. Find time for you, work maybe fun, but you need to take time for YOU! Deep down we all know that it’s important to make time to look after ourselves, not least so we can carry on looking after everyone else who needs us. Yet, we often don’t make the time because we’re too busy, or we’ve always got something more

Enjoy the

RIDE! important, or a demanding job takes up our time. There’s always reasons (excuses) to prevent us from putting ourselves first. Making time for yourself is so important that it shouldn’t be seen as a luxury. Time for yourself is time away from your To Do list, your list of responsibilities and commitments. It’s time away from the things you HAVE to do each day that sap not only your time, but your physical and mental energy. Be Kind. We’re all going though something different, and a few simple words can make someone smile. The good will come back around to you. Friends will come in and out of your life, and that’s ok. You’ll have work friends. You’ll have friends who you can have real conversations with. You’ll have friends who come around for certain stages of your life. You’ll have friends who become family. Surround yourself with people who make you happy and support you, but remember that you’re never too old to meet new people. Be Spontaneous. If you know me, I am a planner. You can’t just put me in a car and drive, I need to know when, where and how long. This year especially I have learned to be more spontaneous. I am blessed to live so close to Central Florida. This year I took multiple days, spread across multiple months at my favorite marriott resort in Orlando. These were booked with just about a week of preplanning, something that usually I plan months in advance. It was well worth it. These were time away with

just me and no one else. A change of scenery from my desk. Still working, but just in a different location with a heck of a view. Be Fearlessly Authentic. Life is too short and too precious to waste your time being someone you’re not. Find exactly in your heart who you are and let the world know. Why just fit in, when you were born to stand out! If you are like me, this past year was filled with the highest highs and lowest lows, but we have pushed through them. One thing that I love about working with this region and EXIT Realty is that we never see something as a complete roadblock and turn away… We Innovate, Adapt, and find ways around, over, and under to surpass that hurdle. I have never been happier about the decisions we’ve made and the opportunities we’ve taken. Changing Lives & Creating Opportunities is our Motto and in 2020 we truly lived up to that! Wishing You the best during the holiday season and cannot wait to see all of our successes in 2021! Thank You for being a part of my journey!

LEADERSHIP

<<<

LOGIC

BOB MCKINNON

Director of Leadership EXIT Realty Corp International Article from EXIT MOMENTUM, VOLUME 10, ISSUE 11

Routine Can KILL Your Dream There are times when a leader may find themselves and their project stalled out. Perhaps they’ve been in business now a few years and what they currently have is nowhere near what they dreamed of having. No matter how hard they work or how many hours they put into it, nothing seems to be working toward their goals. The frustration of being in this place is very troubling. Or maybe they’re a new broker/owner and are excited about having their grand opening. Filled with optimism, they share what they are planning to have there in a few years. In some cases that plan comes true and then some. In other cases, it does not happen for a long time and even then it is not what was planned. That is very typical when a person is working alone without help, without an administrator or a close support group. It only takes a few weeks for us to find ourselves in a repeatable, predictable rut we know as our daily routine. We are such creatures of habit; we love stability. We begin to arrive at the office at the same time every day, after driving the same route, stopping at the same Starbucks and ordering the same item after the same morning rituals day after day, only to discover in a few years we did not create what we set out to build. We must fight hard, push back on our tendencies to cement a routine. Here are a few suggestions that worked for me to help with the fight: One: After reading David Cottrell’s book, Monday Morning Choices, I began to take each week separately and design on Monday a week I would really enjoy. I always started by reviewing my goals and tasks every Monday morning to make sure I was centered on my dreams. Each week would be completely different, depending on what I wanted to accomplish. Some weeks were not in my total control due to meetings, deadlines, travel and needs of others. However, for the most part I was in control of enough to make plans and stick to them. Two: I would vary my office time on certain days and, being playful by nature, I always honored hump day on Wednesday. I put a treat in the middle of each week, such as 9 holes of golf, a huge exercise session or a happy hour with some friends, perhaps an early dinner at a cute place. Some days I started early and others with a breakfast meeting at nine. Sometimes I would stay a little late one night. (By the way, you really learn a lot about your team when you are in the office before or after everyone else from time to time.) Three: At the end of each work week, I gave myself a numerical grade from one to ten right on my weekly planning page, which I kept in a file the entire year. I then used that number to average my weekly results over time, knowing I must average 80% minimum overall, constantly. Notice that makes concession for 20% of my time to be stuff that happened out of my control and to allow for life itself. Do not be too rigid. In self-management, I have found we need a little grace. Four: Like a football team stops at quarters to evaluate and adjust, so do I. I cannot stress enough the value of a formal quarterly review of goals and related accomplishments or setbacks. This is structure, management which we all need, but it is a habitual routine buster. In addition, it allows for necessary adjustments that need to be made. Leadership is thoughtful and dynamic. Nothing stays the same for long. To stay on point and focused means you avoid the sticky daily routine. Stay intentional about growing. Stay flexible and you will naturally have followers.
