Jerry’s Seafood
Whether you linger at a restaurant table or perch at the large bar, you’ll enjoy irresistible creations like the incomparable Crab Bomb! Some menu highlights
WHERE IS IT? ON Second Street, in the heart of the Historic District in Lewes. WHY SHOULD I GO? THIS quintessential Lewes seafood restaurant is the home of the Crab Bomb. Now, what on earth is a Crab Bomb? Well, it takes about 50 crabs to make a Bomb because Jerry’s only uses the best of the crab – the jumbo lump – and there are only two lumps per crab. The crab meat is picked in their kitchen to ensure that there is no cartilage remaining. Then the lumps are gently mixed with Old Bay seasoning and mayonnaise. Lastly, the lumps are gently formed into a 10 oz ball approximately the size of a softball. This ball is popped into a hot, hot oven (500 degrees) and baked for about 15 minutes to a golden perfection. Served sizzling hot in a ramekin, the dish is seafood heaven, allowing
the diner to pick each jumbo lump with a fork. For those with a smaller appetite Jerry’s offers the Baby Bomb, which is 6 oz of the same delicious crab. Jerry’s also has an extensive menu of seafood, fish, meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Their fish and chips, served daily for lunch and dinner, has been hailed as comparable to the best in Britain. Stop in at lunch and try one of their salads, sandwiches or have the fire-roasted vegetables served on a rustic baguette. Pull a stool up to their 20-seat bar and choose from a wide selection offered at the full bar, then catch a game on their flat-screen televisions. ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW? JERRY’S Seafood is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, offers daily specials and has a children’s menu.

WHERE IS IT? ON SECOND Street at the corner of Market Street in the first floor of Hotel Rodney.
WHERE IS IT? ON SECOND Street, in the heart of beautiful historic downtown Lewes.
Sometimes the value lies not in the gem, but in the history behind it
WHY SHOULD I GO? ROBERTA Kozak started the original Jewelry Exchange back in 1996 in Chadds Ford, PA, inspired by her lifelong passion for jewelry. From the moment Roberta opened her doors, she insisted on a few core values: personal attention to clientele, making dreams a reality within a budget, and thoughtfully advising clients on purchases, sales, trades or redesigns. When customers come through the door, their best interests are always taken into account. At the Jewelry Exchange, the staff always try to make your visit a pleasant and fun experience. There is never any pressure to buy – it is a
friendly, casual atmosphere. The Jewelry Exchanges offer treasures from different time periods from all around the world. Some of the available pieces have a unique history, which the staff can relate and some come with a mysterious past. From time to time Roberta has purchased pieces of jewelry then handed them back upon realizing they were precious family heirlooms that the owner was reluctantly selling for financial reasons. Some of these people returned, tried to give the money back and ended up becoming long-term clientele. There is now a whole drawer of thank-you cards at the store. All of this makes Jewelry Exchange a magical place. It’s full of beautiful jewelry, laughter, and a caring staff that always has your best interests at heart.

The perfect fix for any sweet tooth... even if you have a few
WHY SHOULD I GO? IF YOU’VE got a hankering for something sweet, stop in this shop and prepare for complete chocolate immersion. No, you won’t personally be dipped into a vat of creamy chocolate, but just about everything else at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is. Take a look at their display counters: they’re full of chocolate-covered pretzels, peanut butter, mint and Oreo barks, truffles, buttercreams – more chocolate than you could ever fit in a box (though if you’re looking for a box of chocolates, they have those, too). The selection may seem overwhelming at first, but don’t panic – Roberta and Klaus Wuttke run this candyland, and they’ll be happy
to guide you and your sweet tooth to the perfect treat. Every day the Wuttkes produce a spread of sugary goodness: their creamy fudge is made from scratch using fresh butter, and their caramel is produced with Lewes Dairy heavy cream (stop by at the right time and you’ll see them make the caramel right in the store window). That caramel is the key ingredient in the famous caramel apples pictured above. If you’re selfless enough to give some of these treats away as gifts, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory has you covered. They make gift baskets for any occasion. Looking for a one-of-a-kind hostess gift? Bring in a bottle of wine and have it coated in chocolate for an edible (and drinkable) conversation piece. And don’t leave without a free sample – you’ll understand why they’ve been voted “Best of Delaware” for years.

Packard Reath Gallery Contemporary fine art in an historical setting
WHERE IS IT? WITHIN Hotel Rodney on the corner of Second Street and Market Street. WHY SHOULD I GO? THE Packard Reath Gallery was the first of its kind and caliber in the region and continues to be the primary source for fine art photography in the Mid-Atlantic. One art critic described the gallery as having “the best collection of contemporary photography in the East.” The mission at Packard Reath Gallery is to encourage an understanding and appreciation of fine art photography by the public, individual
collectors and corporate and professional groups. To this end, they feature one–person shows each month, highlighting the artist both in their gallery space downtown and in other locations throughout the region. From time to time the gallery’s artists and staff give talks on photography as part of their mission to help the public enjoy all that this medium has to offer. Art serves as both an inspiration and a motivator. The addition of good art to home and work spaces makes the difference between a mediocre environment and one that invites the spirit to soar.
