Tennis travelers have a wealth of options each year, both inside the United States and abroad. Every resort and every location has their unique selling-points, but very few have the ability to put an entire agenda of activities and leisure, specific for tennis players, at their disposal. At Omni La Costa Resort and Spa, however, it’s clear that the tennis guest has been taken care of, and then some.

Before even considering anything else, tennis travelers top priority is most often the programming the resort offers on a weekly basis. Cliff Drysdale Tennis manages the world class tennis program, and there is no shortage of play opportunities. The facility includes 17 total courts, including 4 red clay and 13 hard courts, including 7 lighted for night play.

An afternoon clinic offering is not something you’ll see at many resorts, but one that La Costa is proud to offer. It helps when the weather is 70 degrees and sunny almost year round.

“It’s fairly standard to have daily clinics in the morning at a resort, but we’re proud to offer the afternoon session so guests can have more options when they plan their stay,” said Bryce Cunningham, Director of Tennis. “We also have a great membership here at La Costa, so resort guests are able to mix in and play with players of a similar level.”

Of course, the adult program goes much further than daily clinics. Beginner players can participate in weekly Tennis 101 or Tennis 201 sessions hosted Wednesday and Friday, while advanced players and above enjoy the popular Wednesday evening 90 minute clinic. And regardless of your level of play, cardio tennis on Tuesday and Thursdays gives those looking for an amazing workout the opportunity to have fun while burning calories.

But what truly separates La Costa from the competition are the customizable packages and special event opportunities. With nearly a dozen tennis professionals on staff, guests can take individual or group lessons at any time of the day.

“Custom group clinics are definitely our most popular offering at La Costa and other CDT resorts,” said Katie Steck, Director of Experiences. “This opens up a guest’s schedule, and gives them the opportunity to customize their clinics so that they can work on specific parts of their game.”

Beyond programming, there is a strong professional tennis presence at La Costa. Each summer, the San Diego Aviators and World Team Tennis host home matches on the beautiful sunken stadium court. New for 2020, World Team Tennis is hosting the WTT Celebrity All-Star Match on March 1st, which will feature the likes of Maria Sharapova, Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, Sam Querrey, CoCo Vandeweghe, Taylor Fritz, and Madison Keys amongst others.

“Having the Aviators choose La Costa as our home club over the last five years has been fantastic,” Cunningham said. “The matches bring great energy to the club, and are a big hit with resort guests.”

Outside of tennis, La Costa has a plethora of amenities, many of which have been ranked amongst the best in the world. Sticking with sports, the resort features two pristine 18 hole golf courses, which have earned La Costa the Golf Digest Editors Choice award and numerous other accolades. The golf facility has been home to a number of PGA and LPGA tournaments throughout the years.

Step out of your athletic shoes and into relaxation at one of the nation’s highest regarded spa and wellness centers. The Spa at La Costa is committed to providing a relaxing retreat during your stay in Carlsbad while utilizing innovative techniques, organic ingredients and sustainable products. It was named “Favorite Resort Spa Nationwide” by American Spa in 2018.

Thinking of bringing the family? There’s no shortage of options for children with the Splash Landing Pools and popular waterslides. Can you say summer vacation? The resort features 6 pools in total, each of which has its own unique splendor. And if you find time to step off the resort property, downtown San Diego is just a short drive away with major attractions, as are the cozy downtown areas of Carlsbad and Encinitas.

Did we mention that the weather is almost perfect year round? There’s a reason they call it sunny San Diego, and regardless of when you’re looking to travel, the dry and crisp climate make Omni La Costa Resort and Spa an ultimate bucket list destination for tennis.
