The aM37 is the result of two years of research and development, challenging the status quo of the nautical world and combining the best in innovative technology and bespoke craftsmanship. The powerboat was a true team effort, bringing in the most experienced Aston Martin designers to style and create a truly unique product.

Aston Martin’s master craftsmen who worked on cars such as the One77, Aston Martin Vulcan and the new DB11, provided their automotive experience, which was reinterpreted onto the boat to give outstanding results. The new day-cruiser is offered in two versions with the AM37S expected to reach speeds of 50 knots.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s EVP and Chief Creative Officer, and his design team collaborated closely with naval architect Mulder Design to ensure every element of the project was carefully considered. Sharing creative expertise and specialist skills, Quintessence Yachts engineered the Aston Martin design into an innovative powerboat for the yachting world.

Elixir had a busy viewing schedule at her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, hosted by luxury yacht builder Amels. The beautiful vessel is a creation of customisation through the Amels Limited Editions project which allows the owner to create the very personal and characteristic yacht they want, but much more quickly than a full custom build.

Amels delivered Elixir with absolute top quality, on budget and more than a week ahead of schedule. With the owner on board, Elixir spent her first summer season cruising the Mediterranean.

The owner collaborated with exterior designer Tim Heywood and interior designer Laura Sessa to create Elixir’s holistic design full of eccentric contrasts: dark meets light; masculine worldliness meets curvaceous elegance; relaxed comfort meets clean contemporary style – this superyacht has it all.

The faultless application of jet black gloss –extremely challenging to perfect – around the superstructure, contrasts with the natural tone of the oyster white paintwork.

The look is completed with the gleam of stainless steel railings and aft deck pillars, plus black sun awnings and uprights.

Elixir boasts magnificent outdoor spaces, with a huge Sun Deck at 25 metres long and a luxury space of 155 square metres. Guests can enjoy the large and beautifully integrated 3,000-litre Jacuzzi on the Sun Deck, or dine in the cool shade of the Bridge Deck aft. After relaxing in the Beach Club and sauna, the generous swimming platform provides the perfect moment for a dip in the water.

Despite the short timescale, Laura Sessa created an ambitious interior design of changing moods and perspectives with a high degree of customisation in the lighting and loose furniture. Sunlight reflects in high gloss materials and sculpted crystal, ensuring the interior is bright, airy and connected to the sea outside. Velvet and silk fabrics are shining and luxurious. Organic forms and intriguing symbolic patterns add mystery.

“We want to give the guest a different impression in different spaces on board the yacht,” Laura explains. “The range of textures, the patterns of foliage, mother of pearl and marble were part of this scope. The contrast of light and dark woods – bleached maple to ebony Macassar – make the interiors very scenographic.”

At the entrance to the Main Deck saloon, the cabinet with backlit onyx was specially designed for the owner, serving as a bar for guests.

Velvet and silk fabrics add to the high gloss and shine inside, carrying the idea of bright and airy conecting to the sea outside.

On Main Deck port and starboard, folding balconies open up for an al fresco dining vibe and uninterrupted views of the sea. Captain Simon Ladbrooke, Owner Representative, said: “Looking at the quality of the interior, the finishing and the workmanship, I have a very critical eye and it’s just faultless, it really is.

“It’s quality that I can appreciate and understand. There’s been a great, great team working on this project,” he added.

Luxury BrITIsh boat builder, Fairline Yachts, added to the excitement of the boat show season by releasing the first computer generated imagery of its stunning new Targa 63 GTO. To demonstrate just how much of a buzz this model is generating, the first series production boats have already been sold to customers – even before the first model is produced.

So, what makes this vessel such a standout? The first ever annual Sea Festival was a 10-day celebration in Bahrain that promoted the various connections the island Kingdom has to the sea industry, including pearl diving, dhow making and much more.

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority hosted the very first Sea Festival with an aim to celebrate the Kingdom’s rich link to the sea, tying it to several traditions and activities such as pearl diving and dhow making. The Sea Festival was part of the activities organised for the Manama Gulf Capital of Tourism calendar of events. The festival included a series of activities including an underwater photography exhibition, 3D virtual tour, simulator, interactive fish tank, live performances and a food and beverages area. The public also had the opportunity to purchase Bahraini pearls from merchants. Hadag talked to His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, CEO Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority, to learn more about the Sea Festival

Where did the idea for the Sea Festival begin?

Sea Festival comes within the calendar of events under Manama, The Capital of Gulf Tourism for the year 2016, and these events aim to revitalise the tourism sector in the Kingdom. This event was the ideal platform to promote Bahrain’s history associated with the sea, which has seen significant developments and changes over the past years. The festival will also serve as an educational experience about our ancestors’ station link to the sea for visitors from outside the UK and generations of new citizens alike to learn.

Which sectors of Bahraini business and talents did the festival showcase and promote?

Dhow makers, fishermen, boat owners and competent photographers, dealers of pearls and jewellery as well as sellers of marine sports and sea equipment and artisan professions connected to the sea, such as makers of fishing gear for traditional diving, alongside traditional music groups and many others.

Did the festival include the launch of products or local boats and ships?

The festival had a workshop on the Dhow industry, as well as a dedicated area to other professions connected to the sea such as traditional fishing tools like the Algergor (nets) and Alhadrah, and a section for clothes, fishermen and old divers’ sections.

The Sea Festival was the first of its kind in the region.

What are the future plans for the Sea Festival?

We aspire to make the Sea Festival an annual event, bringing more surprises and excitement for visitors, and becoming the best festival of its kind in the GCC. We want to be distinctive, effective and unique so that our visitors always have something to look forward to in the coming years.

How would you describe the Sea Festival for visitors?

It celebrates the attachment of the sea to the Kingdom of Bahrain through highlighting the popular traditions that resulted from the interaction of our ancestors with the marine environment, such as the ships industry, pearl diving and fishing, and the contribution of these activities in the development process for Bahrain during the first constituent years.

Tents will include exhibitions of marine activities that prevailed in Bahrain. And to the side of the tent will be a technical installation of dhows illuminated with lights that float above the water.

On the sidelines of the festival, a group of marine sports competitions are organised to give an enthusiastic atmosphere and to complement the festive surroundings.

One of the most anticipated happenings of the year will take place in December; Qatar International Boat Show 2016 (QIBS’16) is back with an exciting line-up for industry enthusiasts and boating fans. Here’s what you can expect at the 4-day event…

Show 2016 will enthrall visitors once more during its fourth edition of the annual event. Under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar Prime Minister and Interior Minister, QIBS’16 will see an amazing programme of activities and networking opportunities on offer for its visitors.

Following on the show’s remarkable success, that has attracted more than 50,000 visitors from 88 countries, QIBS’16 will witness the participation of major manufacturers and exhibitors, leading international and GCC companies, that are currently active in boat and yacht manufacturing and marketing. This includes Gulf Craft, Seas & Deserts, Behnemar and Benetti. Specialised Qatari companies will also play a prominent part of this year’s show as QIBS’16 showcases local talent and marine expertise through market leaders such as, Halul Boats and Balhambar.

This year the highly anticipated show will showcase exhibitors and impressive motorboats, luxury yachts and unique dhows. These will be displayed both on

land and water and be complemented by exhibitor chalets, representing many of the top names in the maritime industry, both local and international, along the marina walkway. Furthermore, there will be a number of food and beverage outlets and an array of captivating side events happening on a daily basis.

The popular yearly event has welcomed some key organisational changes for 2016. At a press conference hosted at Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Hitmi was announced as the new Chairman for this year’s show. AlHitmi is one of the founding fathers of the maritime industry in Qatar and he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to support the fourth edition of QIBS.

In addition to a new Chairman, Al Mannai Events, the organisers of the show, has created a new management team to lead this year’s show, including Qatar’s established hospitality and events leader Nader Samaan as Director of QIBS. Samaan said: “QIBS is an institution in Qatar’s annual events calendar and it is a pleasure to be part of the new dynamic team at Al Mannai Events, who all bring a

wealth of experience to ensure the show’s success for another year.

“The aim is to keep pace with development and modernity of Qatar and the GCC’s blossoming maritime industry, in order to explore new markets and fulfil the desires of customers. This year we have injected new blood into the show to develop a new vision for the future, evident in the new look and feel for the show that’s been developed,” he added.

With the GCC and Qatar marine market growing rapidly, QIBS serves as an ideal maritime networking platform and a key business driver for the sector boosting regional marine industry. Despite its small size the Qatar market has an active leisure marine sector and the current 1,200-plus marina berths in the country is being increased both by current projects under construction and others planned. The new Valentino Spring/Summer 2017 collection sprouts from a highly imaginative exploration of doing.

Who decides when a piece is fully completed? It is its author. Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection is inspired by the exhibition at The Met Breuer in New York - Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible, which explores the theme of the unfinished through over 500 years of art history. This idea of non finito was the thought process behind a Valentino menswear collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli who decided to interrogate themselves on what the mind can assume and the hand can accomplish. The graceful silhouette is defined by an idea of pragmatic modularity: shirts, blousons, dust coats and high waisted trousers are produced in the same fabric, just like uniforms. Unsewn linings create overlapping effects. Loose stitchings run through certain parts of the items as if forgotten tackings. On the shoes, staples and stitching reveal the sum of all parts. The condensed colour palette made of black, blue, flat grey, dyed blue and canvas écru underlines the aim to perfection.

It has a three-day power reserve from one barrel, is water resistance and the best thing is that it’ll be a limited edition of 300 pieces.

Ferrari GTC4Lusso

Whereas the outgoing shooting brake, the Ferrari FF, was so named because of it’s four-door and 4WD configuration, the GTC4Lusso adds to that with four-wheelsteering as well.

The ouTgoIng FerrarI FF was a highly successful model for Ferrari, offering comfortable travel for four in a highly powerful package. In addition, the four-wheel-drive chassis boasted incredible levels of performance and safety despite the car’s considerable length. Ferrari’s new shooting brake, the GTCLusso, adds to all this with new features and new technology making it even better in terms of comfort and performance.

To the untrained eye, Ferrari’s new shooting brake, the GTC4Lusso is very similar to the FF. This is because the new car’s designers were told that the Lusso must have the same exterior dimensions – length, width, height – as the outgoing model.

However, they were also told that the new car must look better, boast better performance, and be more spacious and comfortable than the FF as well! Make magic, in other words.

And magic they have indeed made. On closer inspection, you’ll see that the GTC4Lusso has had a significant revamp on the styling, looking sharper, more modern and stylish, yet with classic Ferrari lines, especially along that long sweeping bonnet and at the rear of the car. Although different, it’s still unmistakeably Ferrari.

The interior has been significantly redesigned too. Again, looking more modern and futuristic, one of the most significant advantages is the inclusion of the passenger-side controls in the ‘dual cockpit’ design. This means that the passenger can essentially act as co-pilot, with their own information, audio and navigation controls on the dash in front of them.

It still comfortably seats four passengers, with an added 16mm of legroom in the rear over the FF, and an added 50% of storage space throughout the car, with up to 800l in the rear for luggage and so on. This is a Ferrari that you can easily stow your golf clubs in? Never has power been so practical! There’s also a lovely, light and airy atmosphere to the whole passenger cabin thanks to the front-to-back panoramic sunroof, essentially creating a ‘glass dome’ effect.

In terms of performance, the GTC4Lusso still boasts that glorious Ferrari V12 engine. It is phenomenally powerful, putting out 690hp and 697Nm of torque, making for a 0-100km/h time of just 3.4 seconds. This is in spite of the fact that the new engine is also more efficient and economical that the old one.

Like the FF, the new GTC4Lusso also boasts a highly sophisticated all-wheel drive system that makes for incredible grip and performance. However, the GTC4Lusso improves on this significantly with the addition of all-wheel steering as well. The rear wheels turn slightly to assist with cornering, and the improvement to the handling and safety is huge. The grip for such a long car is unbelievable – it handles pretty much like you’d expect any Ferrari to handle, except unlike any other Ferrari it can do so with you and three passengers on board!

The GTC4Lusso is the closest you’ll get to a limousine from Ferrari, which means that you don’t have to compromise on performance just because you need extra space. You get the best of both worlds! Power, AND practicality.

On first impressions, you’ll see that Shangri-La has successfully managed to blend its signature Asian style with local Arabic influence and offer a Far East meets Middle East sanctuary. We experienced the glorious ancient therapy of the Hammam topped off with an Asian Blend full body massage, each lasting 60 minutes. The knowledgeable staff and therapists were attentive and informative throughout the treatments – did you know that black soap is fantastic to remove dead skin cells?

This is just one of the great therapeutic treatments available. The spa menu is packed with authentic natural healing methods found in many Asian cultures. This was two hours of pure rejuvenation for the mind and body which we’d highly recommended for busy-bodies. Put down your phone, tablet and any other tech device; switch off and get your relaxation fix pronto –this is the PERFECT place for it.

Fine Dining Perfection

As far as food goes, the Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri has so much to offer with variety and quality being the top priorities. Diners can indulge in a range of international cuisines; pamper your palate with authentic Chinese food at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Shang Palace, or award-winning Vietnamese restaurant, Hoi An, whilst the all-day dining restaurant Sofra bld, and the elegant p&c by Sergi Arola with its traditional Spanish favourites, are also two great foodie spots. Enjoy pre- and post-dinner drinks at Al Hanah Bar or the informal Lobby Lounge, or relax by the pool deck with a fragrant shisha. For the ultimate in fine dining, we went to experience superb French cuisine at the glamorous restaurant, Bord Eau. You’ll enter a chic and elegant dining room, the kind that you’d expect to find in a grand manor house, decorated in opulent fabrics and furniture with large, comfortable chairs and warm mood-lighting to keep the ambience intimate and relaxed.

Bord Eau also gets two other crucial things right: the food and the service. Sophisticated French cuisine is prepared by passionate chefs who use seasonal fresh produce and serve each dish with an artistic expression. One of our favourite dishes is the Line Caught Sea Bass from “Concarneau” Bay – it’s slow cooked and comes with baby beetroot and fennel, topped with citrus vinaigrette. It’s the combination of tastes and textures that make this main dish a hit. Take the sweet, gentle and tender beets with the subtle taste and buttery chew of the sea bass, alongside the incredible citrus vinaigrette, which was simply divine, and you’ve got yourself a flavour-packed dish.

Suite Life

They had us at ‘each of the 214 rooms feature a balcony or terrace with a breathtaking view of the canal’ – but then we walked into the Horizon Club Deluxe Room and were in awe of the elegant archways and Arabian architectural flair; from the sophisticated bathroom style to the comfortable bedroom, and the picturesque balcony. This room type is particularly great for a weekend break because it comes with homely features and added benefits. You get a personal concierge service, 24-hour butler service, and personalised in-room check-in and check-out. But, best of all, for us, was the complimentary afternoon tea and canapés in the Horizon Club lounge – a welcomed respite to snack and chill out from sunbathing or a day out visiting the city’s many tourist hotspots! The furnishings are contemporary, the exclusive privileges abundant, and the staff incredibly helpful. If that wasn’t enough you have everything from a safe, a well-stocked mini bar, and even a stationery box (yes, there’s a stapler and sharpener too!). We’re not big on clichés but this room choice can only, rightly, be described as ‘a home away from home’.

Directions

Sweat the onion, garlic, celery and the mushroom in olive oil.

Add the tomatoes and hot chillis and let everything cook for 30 minutes on very low heat until the mixture becomes a smooth tomato ragu.

Place the ragu on buttered paper, and the raw fish slices on top. Cover and seal the paper pack.

Cook it in the oven for 20 minutes on 150 Celsius/ 360 Fahrenheit.

Directions:

Cut the pumpkin into large pieces and mix with the sliced white onions, butter, and salt and pepper. Slow roast this in an oven at 120 Celsius/250 Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and fine blend the pumpkins and the onion with a touch of butter, cream and white vinegar until you get a very smooth paste. Mix together semi-dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, anchovies, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Sweat the white onion in melted butter and add the green peas. Cook until soft. Crush the cooked peas with a fork; add the grapeseed, olive oil and a touch of vinegar. Season the scallops with salt and pepper. Sear them on a flat bottom pan and glaze with fresh butter and lemon juice.

ABU DHABI THROUGH THE LENS

The Abu Dhabi Through Your Eyes photography competition announced the winners of its ninth edition during an awards ceremony held at Manarat Al Saadiyat. Hadag showcases some of the winners whose inspiration for moments captured came straight from the waterways of the UAE capital.

When it comes to sea views, canals, and all things marine, we’re really spoilt for choice for places to admire in the Gulf region. One such place where the beauty of the water exists in abundance is Abu Dhabi. There are bridges over meandering streams, breathtaking beaches, the enchanting mangroves and ports and marinas –all providing the perfect moments to capture a photograph.

This is exactly what some of the winners, of the 2016 Abu Dhabi Through Your Eyes competition did, and went on to win. The competition, organised through collaboration between the Office of Government Communications and TCA Abu Dhabi, invited thousands of aspiring photographers to share their impression of the unique spirit of Abu Dhabi. Photographers from a wide range of backgrounds went on to capture their personal perspective of the emirate within a single photograph, submitting their entries as a celebration of Abu Dhabi’s culture taken from their perspective.

Successful participants from both the main competition and the student category received their prizes from Sheikh Theyab Bin Khalifa, HE Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and member of the Executive Council, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General, TCA Abu Dhabi.

The standouts for us included an aerial shot of the mangroves by Mohammed Abdullah Al Hammadi who was awarded second place in the main competition, winning a prize of AED35,000. There’s also MHD Amer Ammar who won the National Geographic Al Arabiya prize for his striking image of the calm waters, summer skies, and a bridge in the distance.

Its 16GB card can hold up 240 images on average with a capture rate of 1.7 – 2.3 frames per second (now, that’s pretty impressive). Within a very short period of time, we were able to capture photographs above the quality and standard of anything we had managed before. The ingenious technology combined with the incredible functionality allowed for us to get going quickly as well as to constantly improve on our picture-taking skills. Despite having learned a lot about the camera, we would’ve needed far more time to master all of its ample capabilities. It’s enough to make you want to delve further into the world of photography!

Known as: Kingsodier bream

Grows to a maximum length of 35cm. General Features: Body deep strongly compressed from both sides covered with large scales fish color pink unblemished silver and usually the upper part be darker

Their Habitat: A demersal fish and located near rocky areas and coral reefs. Diet: Feeds on benthic invertebrates such as crustaceans (shrimp and crab) and sea worms, shellfish and mollusks.

Grows to a maximum length of 35cm. General Features: deep body compressed from both sides covered with fish scales medium silver color and bleach to be slightly darker at the top and usually the abdomen color Thumper towards yellowing.

Grows to a maximum length of 46cm.

General Features: : The small of it 6-15 cm called Maid and the big is called ( Beyah ) of 15-30 cm nearly body longitudinally compressed a little bit of both sides body coated cobalt disc smooth the overall color of the fish silvery dark and back while the sides.

Their Habitat: A demersal fish living in coral reefs and rocky areas.

Diet: feed on plankton, and small benthic organic material in the clay and algae floating objectsand marine worms and small fish.

5. Local name: Faskar Known as: Twobar Bream

Grows to a maximum length of 50cm. General Features: Body deep and compressed from sides, medium to large silvery body diagonal color to yellowish fins from the top of the head. Their Habitat: A demersal fish living in sandy areas near rocky areas and coral reefs and in herbal areas. Diet: They feed on demersal invertebrates and crustaceans.
