EFFECT Let the light shine through with sheer textiles – they are one of the biggest trends of spring and summer 2024. The best way to wear them in this part of the world is in applied details or as an outer layer.

Missoni showcased a collection filled with transparency and styled it with a twist: layering the pieces for a less revealing outcome while fully embracing the trend.

Looking for a different way to add the trend to your outfits without showing any skin? Tory Burch enveloped handbags in a beautiful translucent material to help you in this mission.

From all the styles, we think that Brandon Maxwell did the best job with see-through flared trousers that can be worn with mini dresses or jackets. We absolutely love them! 16

OHLALA ICYMI

This month, our news roundup is inspired by the collections celebrating the New Lunar Year – the Year of the Dragon – starting on February 10. Check them out!

Italian Red Maison Valentino's 2024 Chinese New Year Collection highlights one of the brand's mainstay hues, Rosso Valentino. The capsule deepens the luxury label's reverence for local culture and Chinese tradition. It redefines classic maison elements, and the red VLogo sets the tone of each item as a tribute to Haute Couture and craftsmanship. For the women's selection, an iconic red dress and VLogo Jacket add a festive flair to classic Valentino designs, while the Valentino Garavani VLogo Signature slingback, VLogo Locò mini bag, VLogo Locò bucket and VLogo Moon mini bag – all highlights of the new collection – find themselves reimagined in the Rosso hue. For the maison's men's selection, red and beige debut as complementary colours, seen on the Valentino Garavani One Stud sneakers and VLogo tote. The colours create a comforting and joyous atmosphere while delivering an optimistic outlook for the New Year.

What's the Time? To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, IWC Schaffhausen presents a limited edition of the Portugieser Chronograph. The timepiece is powered by the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, a robust and precise mechanical chronograph movement in a classic column-wheel design. It features a 41mm stainless steel case, burgundy dial, contrasting gold-plated hands and appliques. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this watch's gold-plated rotor of the automatic winding system takes the shape of a detailed dragon, visible through a sapphire glass caseback. In addition, the case ring features an engraving of YEAR OF THE DRAGON 2024. The piece comes with one black calfskin strap and a burgundy rubber strap. Burgundy is a charming shade of red, symbolising the vibrant colour of fire, traditionally used to welcome the Lunar New Year in China and promises longevity and luck.

Mystical Jewels Begüm Khan is a Turkish jewellery brand founded by Begüm Kıroğlu in 2012. It combines mystical Eastern culture with modern elegance, creating unique designs. Her pieces always reflect the wonders of fauna and flora. This time, the brand's new eye-catching icon is the dragon, a symbol deeply rooted in Chinese mythology and culture that is a source of inspiration for quirky creations. This new icon is not just a celebration of the Chinese New Year but a testament to the designer's genuine interest in the country's culture and traditions. The dragon family, crafted with 24-carat plated gold on bronze, embellished with semi-precious stones and crystals, meets the Begüm Khan woman as a reflection of China's millennia-old history and perception of beauty.

All About the Dragon In homage to the Year of the Dragon, MAX&Co is launching a Lunar New Year capsule. The mythical creature is incorporated throughout the collection in bold or subtle ways. Vibrant and joyful pieces include a maxi sweater – or mini cardigan dress – starring an intricate dragon motif embellished with detailed embroidery and sequins. A cableknit jumper is also enlivened with the same design. Elsewhere, the dragon is celebrated more abstractly, though no less striking. A knit skirt set has a graphic intarsia pattern corresponding to mythological scales. Casual T-shirts accompany these pieces. Available to a global audience, these creations are intended to go beyond the celebrations for the many seasons and years to come.

Chinese Lettering BOSS celebrates with a collaboration with novelist and calligrapher Feng Tang in a dragonthemed capsule that draws inspiration from Chinese calligraphy. This collection embodies the essence of belief and courage, heralding the New Year with anticipation and dreams. Feng Tang takes cues from Chinese characters and traditional patterns, crafting a modern and minimalist calligraphy style that showcases the dragon character as the hero motif of the collection. These exclusive pieces embrace classic red and black tones with milky white accents. The collection features a range of men's and women's items, from classic collegiate-style baseball jackets and casual sweatshirts to knitwear pieces and T-shirts. Singer and actor Leo Chen takes the spotlight as the face of the campaign.

The 35.2mm-diameter case, also crafted in white gold, houses a selfwinding 26-330S calibre and meticulous finishing is visible through a transparent sapphire caseback. A patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches is used for the bracelet ensuring optimum comfort. IN THE NAME OF

LOVE Chopard have welcomed new designs to their beloved Happy Hearts collection.

38

www.ohlala-magazine.com

JEWELLERY EDIT

S

ince its launch in 2009, the Happy Hearts collection combined the maison’s iconic dancing diamonds with the heart motif. The line is very dear to Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Artistic Director, and it offers a contemporary approach as the pieces can be worn alone or stacked thanks to their wide range of colours. The collection now welcomes a matching pendant and bangle set featuring a dainty heart in pink opal edged with diamonds and a larger mother-ofpearl pendant. Following the trend for oversized jewellery, the pendant in ethical 18-carat rose gold features a large, reversible mother-of-pearl heart with a rose gold ‘C’ logo on its back and a small heart with a dancing diamond. The other pendant is also in ethical 18-carat rose gold, featuring a pink opal heart surrounded by diamonds and a small heart with a dancing diamond with a coordinating bangle. Pink opal gemstones play the leading role in these new Happy Hearts additions. With a soft and delicate colour, the opal is mainly found in the Peruvian Andes. Regarded as a heart chakra stone in traditional Indian medicine, it is said to have soothing properties on emotional wounds, bringing a feeling of peace and serenity. It also stimulates imagination and creativity and encourages open-mindedness and self-acceptance. These powerful emblems naturally resonate with the Happy Hearts talismans. Express your love this Valentine’s Day by gifting your significant other with these pieces.

FROM BOTANY TO POETRY The Parisian house Van Cleef & Arpels is bringing emblematic floral creations that contemplate the wonders of nature.

40

www.ohlala-magazine.com

JEWELLERY EDIT

I

nspired by the beauty and harmony of blossoms, the pieces showcase the virtuosity of the maison’s diamond craftsmanship, exhibiting some of the world’s most enchanting High Jewellery, jewellery and timepieces. Founded in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has long drawn inspiration from nature and, in 1970, the Rose de Noël collection was launched – named for the unique, winter-blooming Christmas Rose. Originally in pink coral, yellow gold and diamonds, the pieces have since embraced joyful variations, moving with the times to marry the sparkle of diamonds with the reflections of white or grey mother-of-pearl, coral and chalcedony, as well as chrysoprase. The Rose de Noël mini pendant features yellow gold, lapis lazuli and diamonds and, to create these gleaming, coloured flowers, Van Cleef & Arpels’ expert gemologists select materials of the highest quality. White mother-of-pearl brings iridescent reflection; lapis lazuli, an intense and uniform shade of blue. It takes several years to source perfectly matched ensembles due to the stones’ rarity. And the diamonds, of course, meet the maison’s standards of excellence: D to F for colour and IF to VVS for clarity. The Fleurette collection motif features seven round diamonds forming a delicate corolla. The meeting of rose gold and diamonds creates a radiant harmony unfolding as a delicate flower. The collection includes a necklace

with five motifs as well as the new Fleurette ring, introduced in 2022, boasting a widened body set with diamonds of decreasing size, giving the illusion of a weightless corolla elegantly accompanying every gesture. The brilliant Frivole creations are crafted from white gold paved with diamonds. The five-flower bracelet embellishes the wrist with sparkling diamonds sitting in perfect harmony with the nine-flower necklace. The Between the Finger Ring presents a dialogue between three flowers in mirror-polished white gold and a diamond-paved flower invoking the exuberance of blooming nature in springtime. The gorgeously whimsical idea of a garden in which time is gauged by a variety of flowering plants opening and closing at specific hours of the day – the floral clock envisaged by Swedish botanist Carl von Linné – formed the principal for two brand-new timekeepers: the Lady Arpels Heures Florales and Lady Arpels Heures Florales Cerisier. The latter features a 38mm case in rose gold and diamonds with a dial of rose, white and yellow gold, pink sapphires, yellow and white diamonds, white mother-of-pearl and miniature paintings all held on a shiny pink alligator strap. The watches’ three-dimensional dials tick by the hours with the opening and closing of 12 corollas and telling time becomes a poetic spectacle as the flowers blossom and close at random, recreating the scenery of the dial every 60 minutes.

Bejewelled

Expression Roberto Coin’s winter collection brings new lines to fall in love with.

42

www.ohlala-magazine.com

JEWELLERY EDIT

Precious New Year According to Chinese astrology, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon and Roberto Coin created a limitededition capsule inspired by this Oriental legend. The mythical creature symbolises strength, power, wisdom, nobility, good fortune and success. And the jewels representing it are a mix of imagination, elegance and technique illuminated by diamonds and enamels, with rubies placed like magic eyes. A dragon to wear and always carry with you so you can touch it when you most need its strength. A symbolic talisman to give you a year of victories, happy relationships and a flourishing life to enjoy.

Game On The jewels in the Domino collection are made of rows of identical elements that are repeated along the entire surface. Just as in the pieces of this ancient Chinese game, the gems replicate the same chain reaction effect, giving a sense of constant movement. The gold is treated like a precious stone and each component of the collection is worked like a miniature artistic sculpture. The black and white diamonds that light up the entire line give it a sense of depth with an exotic design – the result is a dazzling aesthetic.

Ultimate Elegance Roberto Coin chose to leave the rules of classic fine jewellery behind when he created the Sauvage Privé collection. Its revolutionary shapes and colours intensify every woman’s deeply instinctive, unconventional essence. With these jewels, the designer celebrates women he considers courageous and irresistible. The pieces’ unrestrained geometry goes beyond innovation; the same impulse is reflected in the unusual choice of stones. Black jade, which is extremely difficult to cut, is the shiny, forceful star of the collection. And the malachite, with its naturally unique pattern, is the perfect advocate for the company’s mission: to dedicate an exclusive piece of jewellery to every woman.

a Prairie are known for innovative solutions in the skincare field. Their new Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Mask has been designed according to the brand’s Science of Haute-Rejuvenation principles, which seek to empower and reactivate the skin’s natural rejuvenating capacity. The mask aims to recreate the most sought-after aesthetic procedures with a needle-free approach. This two-step night treatment recharges the skin using a patented macro-infusion technology. The effect of the Macro-infusion Technology is enhanced by key active ingredients of the proprietary Haute-Rejuvenation science: the Platinum Multi-Peptide and La Prairie’s Exclusive Cellular Complex. Thanks to their synergy, the Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation mask ignites skin’s power of renewal. This mask is a two-step night treatment designed to work during the skin’s most active renovative phase. RECHARGE Encased in sleek single-dose vials to preserve the formula’s integrity, the Ultra-Potent Concentrate’s goal is to recharge the skin with essential components, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and collagen. Together, they help increase moisture in the skin to plump and smooth after being delivered via the Macro-Infusion Technology. REACTIVATE The Ultra-Sensorial Cream comes in the signature Platinum Rare Collection’s diamond-shaped vessel and seals hyaluronic acid, collagen and ceramides in the complexion to support the reactivation of key rejuvenating processes. In the cream phase, the skin benefits provided by the Ultra-Potent Concentrate are supported and sustained, allowing for a restored appearance over time. A Dazzling Scent F

The beloved fragrance house Bath & Body Works are launching a new addition to their vast collection: Luminous.

eeling fabulous and gorgeous, leaving a memorable scented trail is something we all would love to achieve. The new Bath & Body Works fragrance, Luminous, is on a mission to help let your scent linger in the air. According to a Bath & Body Works survey, 77% of consumers love getting complimented on the scent they wear and 83% say they wear a fragrance for themselves rather than to impress others. With this idea in mind and to understand its customers further, the beauty brand is encouraging users to express themselves by sharing how Luminous makes them feel. The #ShareYourShine campaign is asking wearers to share how this new aroma makes them glow from the inside out and tag @bathandbodyworksarabia. “Our customers view scent and fragrance as part of their identity, so by bringing an elevated yet accessible product to a passionate community, we have all the makings of a sharing and engagement campaign that celebrates our customers and is anchored in empowerment,” said Jamie Sohosky, Chief Marketing Officer at Bath & Body Works. Luminous was created to make every day and night feel like a special occasion. The beauty retailer partnered with master perfumer David Apel to bring the inspiration to life through this bouquet. “The ingredients selected were very intentional – I wanted to give the fragrance a multidimensional signature with warmth, levity, elegance and most importantly, power and trail. Luminous moves with you and is a manifestation of what inspires you to live authentically and fully,” said David Apel. Luminous blends three luxe notes for rich decadence, warmth and sweetness. Ruby currant is a new and on-trend take on the dark red berry note; gilded iris is an in-demand luxurious ingredient; and praline amber provides a warm, gourmand note to the fragrance that leaves a lasting trail. It’s available in 20 products, including various forms for which the brand is known, such as Eau de Parfum, Moisturizing Body Wash and Body Cream. The luxurious scent with vanity-worthy packaging is perfect for a gift or those looking to refresh their fragrance for the upcoming warm season.

Real Retreat February is the month of love, and self-love is the best way to celebrate the occasion. Fernanda Langhammer visited Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain for a pampering escape.

S PA S P O T L I G H T

T

he year has only just started, so it might be a bit early to think of taking a break, but the habit of caring about your well-being should be a year-long practice. For me, the ultimate way to care for myself is to go for a spa treatment. I headed to the newly opened Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain to pamper myself and indulge in their Private Villa spa setup. Yes, the hotel is all you can expect and a bit more, offering different experiences to cater to all their guests’ needs. Raffles are known for creating a world of beauty, wonder and inspiration and I knew it would be the same in their Bahraini property. The hotel is nestled behind large intricate doors opened by staff dressed in traditional Eastern-style attire. It’s such a nice detail that shows a personal touch, like being welcomed to someone’s home (palace). I love that there are no revolving doors. When entering the space, it feels like you step into a different universe. White walls with detailed patterns, loads of greenery (big pots with an array of various plants), and black accents compose the décor for a sleek yet cosy space. The clever use of natural light is also a key element in giving an organic atmosphere in this spotless interior. The contrast of light and the plants’ brightness caught my attention the most, and I could have stayed there soaking in all the beauty for hours, but I had something even better planned for my day. This month, Raffles will open their Spa Wellness Villa concept, a really unique approach to wellness on the island based on timelessness and longevity experiences. A three-bedroom villa converted into a beauty haven – two rooms for couples’ treatments and one for single therapies. The space is truly distinct, offering a real sense of privacy as each offers its own facilities. In the centre of the secluded villa, a beautiful pool invites you to rest and unwind. The concept also has a pedicure and manicure area, and a setup for a relaxation room where you can decompress even further.

S PA S P O T L I G H T

But my spa treatment was not happening there this time. Wiwin, the Spa and Wellness Manager, welcomed me into one of the private villas where my pampering journey would happen. She explained that to give a customised and personalised experience, they also offer treatments in the comfort of guests’ own villas while staying at the property. As the villas have an utterly sheltered space, the massage bed can be positioned by the private pool and with the nice weather these days, the relaxation reaches an elevated meaning. As I had the villa for myself, I was invited to use all the amenities in the comfortable bathroom and leave my belongings in the closet. I got changed into one of the robes available, with the option of a fluffier one or a lighter material; I went for the latter as it was quite a warm day. The products used at Raffles Spa are from Dr Burgener Switzerland’s collection, a brand specialised in personalised skin care that creates highend formulas and protocols to treat an array of concerns and goals. I was then introduced to Intira, my therapist for the day, who explained that I was going to embark on the signature treatment: the Royal Arabian Indulgent. A two-hour session inspired by the Arabic culture and rituals that includes a full-body scrub and a personalised massage. We started the journey with a foot ritual; in my opinion, there is no better way to begin a relaxing time than the touch of warm water on my feet. The gentle scrub with salt and essential oils from Dr Burgener Switzerland emanated a lovely scent. I then moved to the massage bed, where Intira started with the scrubbing. She kindly asked about my preference for the pressure and, for me, when it comes to exfoliation, it’s the lighter, the better. I then took a shower to remove the residues and returned for the massage part of the journey.

52

www.ohlala-magazine.com

My skin felt smooth and clean. Before lying down, Intira lit up bakhoor incense, known for its relaxing benefits, as an extra element of this signature treatment. The oil used in this therapy is oud with its rich aroma and earthy notes. I have to confess that I am not the biggest fan of this type of scent, but this one was very light and had a delightful tone. The massage started on my back, where I asked for some extra attention, and moved to the other body parts in rhythmic movements. I could feel my muscles relaxing and all the stress and tension melting away. The whole spa concept is to give guests a personalised experience, so I also had a mini facial, ideal for dry skin. Intira cleansed my complexion and applied a Dr Burgener Switzerland Hydra Filler Mask with hyaluronic acid to bring glow and suppleness by hydrating the skin at a deep level. While the mask was acting to deliver goodness to my tired face, she gave me a lovely scalp massage. After 20 minutes, she removed the mask and massaged the serum into my complexion, followed by Dr Burgener’s Hydra Balance Face Cream. It was time to say goodbye, but before leaving, a beautiful silver tray containing green juice, chamomile tea and delightful sweets was waiting for me. What a treat! WELL-BEING

AMPLIFIED OHLALA visited The Diplomat Spa for a full-body renewal to start 2024 in a state of pure bliss.

here is nothing better than beginning the New Year with a pampering experience. OHLALA headed to The Diplomat Spa at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa to embark on their Holiday Bliss Package. The comprehensive treatment includes a gentle exfoliating scrub, a full-body relaxing massage and a hydrating facial. The hotel is situated amidst the liveliness of the Diplomatic Area, which led us to anticipate that this would be a spa exuding a bustling city ambience. However, we must say, we were pleasantly surprised by its secluded and tranquil surroundings. Upon entering the reception area, one is greeted by a spacious layout complemented by a delightful fragrance and a serene ambience. The Spa and Recreation Manager, Tamar Badzagua, welcomed us with her beautiful and friendly smile and guided us on a tour of the facilities. After completing a form that included inquiries about our health and massage preferences, ensuring a memorable and personalised experience uniquely tailored to our needs, we proceeded to the spa. The spa is located in

a separate building, and alongside it is the health club, which boasts a well-equipped gym featuring a wide range of hightech equipment. Tamar shared that the space has a great community vibe and loyal members. Furthermore, we were informed about the availability of a sauna and steam room, providing guests with the option to utilise them either before or after their workout session. Back at the spa building, it was time to meet Sophy, the therapist, and enter the door to embark on a fantastic journey – little did we know what awaited. The corridor is dimly lit to set you into a calming mode with blue lights on the floor (blue is the colour associated with calmness and peace). Before reaching the treatment rooms, there is a fantastic space with a small waterfall, a wooden bridge, loungers, and plants, creating a relaxing ambience. After crossing the bridge, you’ll discover a fountain under a skylight dome, allowing natural light into the area. Men find solace on the first floor, while the second floor beckons ladies with charm. Guided by Sophy, we arrived at the very spacious treatment room. The room boasted a generously comfortable massage

bed, accompanied by a range of amenities to enhance the bathing experience, including a bathtub, an in-room toilet and a refreshing shower. Guests are enveloped in an atmosphere of enchantment, where every detail is meticulously crafted to ensure their stay is a symphony of convenience and unparalleled comfort. It’s noticeable that there are no city noises, only melodic soft music and a distant water sound from the fountain – we were eager to leave behind worldly concerns and fully immerse in the rejuvenating experience of mind, body and soul. Scrubbing your skin from time to time is very beneficial as it removes dead cells for better moisturiser absorption. It also unclogs the pores and eliminates product build-up. We had the coffee scrub with milk. The antioxidants in coffee improve skin texture by smoothing and rejuvenating it. Sophy’s gentle pressure made it an enjoyable experience. The scent of coffee instantly transported us on a sensory journey. After the full-body scrub, a shower was required to remove the product residue while Sophy prepared the bed for the massage. For the Balinese treatment – a traditional therapy with a

modern twist – she chose lavender oil. This type of massage uses a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy to stimulate blood and oxygen flow and bring a sense of well-being and deep relaxation. Sophy’s expert touch worked wonders on our tense muscles, providing us with a blissful sense of relief. Last but not least, it was time for a facial. We went for a brightening treatment that would restore some vitality to our lustreless skin. She started with deep cleansing, moving to a gentle scrub. She applied a moisturiser to perform a lymphatic drainage massage focused on stimulating lymph nodes to enhance circulation and eliminate toxins. She then added a thick mask layer using a brush and moved her fingers to the scalp performing a massage to improve circulation in the area. She ended the facial with a serum and moisturiser. All the products at The Diplomat Spa are from PHYTOMER, a French brand that believes in the sea’s properties and the power of natural ingredients.

Before leaving, we had a delightful elderflower tea while checking our phones, feeling pampered and relaxed. Staying away from any screen for more than two hours was another additional benefit of the treatment. Transformed into a renewed being, from head to toe, we basked in the exhilaration of the session. It far exceeded our expectations, and we can confidently say that Sophy stands among the finest therapists we have ever met. If you are looking for a total reboot, visit The Diplomat Spa to start 2024 with a renewed vibration.

DR HALA ABDULWAHAB

IT’S A COMPLEXION

MATTER Inspired by our Ohlala Spa & Wellness Awards 2024 launch, we spoke to Dr Hala Abdulwahab, Consultant Dermatologist at Dermacare Skin and Laser Centre, about her career and beauty treatments.

68

www.ohlala-magazine.com

OHLALA VOICES

OHLALA – What made you go into medicine? Why did you choose dermatology as your speciality? Dr Hala Abdulwahab – Being part of a medical family, opting for this career path felt like the most natural choice for me. From the beginning, dermatology was my passion, driven by a fascination with beauty and clarity. The vast realm of skin reflects everything happening internally. My parents paved the way and inspired my journey in this field. OHLALA – The dermatology field is vast. What is the part of it that you find most fascinating? What made you create the Dermacare Skin and Laser Centre? Dr Hala – Contrary to common assumptions, I am fascinated by both the general dermatological aspects and the cosmetic side of the skin. My dream was to establish a top-tier medical centre offering comprehensive skin care services. I take pride in saying that after years of dedication and hard work, my dream has come true. What makes it even more special is sharing this achievement with my sister, Dr Heba, as we worked together to establish Dermacare Skin and Laser Centre. OHLALA – Can you highlight some of the treatments offered? What are the most sought-after therapies? Dr Hala – Our centre is equipped with the latest treatments in dermatology and cutting-edge body contouring techniques. Staying up to date with advancements is a priority for us. Dermacare offers state-of-the-art treatments covering various aspects like acne scarring, pigmentation and body contouring. We provide lasers, peels and microneedling with and without radiofrequency. The focus on hyaluronic acid fillers, hybrid fillers and immunomodulators reflects the demand for these sought-after procedures. This is all, of course, besides offering our expertise in all general dermatology conditions for adults and children. OHLALA – Looking young is a popular trend; however, do you think the results are more than aesthetic? What is the emotional side of it? Dr Hala – Maintaining a youthful appearance is popular, but it’s crucial to do so within reason. Enhancing features in harmony with one’s age tends to yield more natural and beautiful results. As a dermatologist,

guiding patients towards treatments that enhance their existing beauty rather than completely altering it is our responsibility, and it’s a vow both my sister and I take to heart. Considering the emotional and psychological aspects is crucial before any treatment, as these factors play a significant role. Addressing underlying emotions and mental wellbeing is essential to achieve optimal and satisfying results for the patients. OHLALA – How important is it to keep a skincare routine at home? Do you believe that topical solutions genuinely help to maintain a healthy complexion? Dr Hala – Maintaining a solid skincare routine at home is crucial for preventing issues and supporting various treatments we perform in the clinic. Choosing the right routine tailored to one’s skin type – whether dry, oily or mixed – is essential for effective care and optimal results. OHLALA – The Middle East has a harsh environment for the skin. What would be a good skincare routine for this part of the world? Dr Hala – Especially in the Middle East, using a broad-spectrum sunscreen is crucial. The hot and humid environment underscores the need for protecting our skin. While tailoring the routine to our skin type is vital, never forgetting sunscreen remains the most crucial step in maintaining skin health. OHLALA – Please tell us more about your philanthropic initiative, the Dreams Society. Dr Hala – The Dreams Society is a cherished initiative aimed at giving back to the community. Recognising the importance of joy and playfulness, especially for children facing illnesses, the organisation fulfils their dreams – ranging from simple wishes to elaborate experiences. It’s a successful effort emphasising the significance of giving back and maintaining the positive momentum in the community. OHLALA – On a different topic, what do you like most about Bahrain? Dr Hala – What I love about Bahrain is absolutely everything. It’s wonderful to have such positive appreciation for Bahrain. The kind and friendly people, the inclusive environment and the sense of community coming together contribute to making it a special place.

OHLALA LOOKBOOK

Back to

BASICS

MAX&Co. present a Spring and Summer 2024 (SS2024) collection of multifaceted creations that carry a relaxed yet stylish essence. For their SS2024 collection, MAX&Co. went back to the 1990s for inspiration, with the concept of wearing casual pieces in an elevated way. It celebrates the ease of getting dressed in functional and versatile pieces. The lines between masculine and feminine are blurred with creations that are tailored-chic and sporty with city staples and vacation wanderlust vibes. The collection aims to transcend trends and dress codes with lightweight layers such as fluid nylon parkas, shirt jackets and cotton drill bombers – all-season-long essentials. The new take on tailoring is not limited to office hours, and the pieces are paired with sustainable trainers (created in collaboration with ACBC) and lacedetail T-shirts. Denim also plays a central role as one of the favourite textiles, even structuring pleated midi skirts and bustiers. Party-ready looks are similarly multipurposed, as couture-inspired silhouettes are recharged with a youthful, sporty energy. Lace tunics, minimal knit dresses, and satin bustiers are worn with biker jackets, blazers and denim. For high summer, fun meets glamour – courtesy of lurex, satin, embellished disco-ready jumpsuits and mini and maxi dresses with poolside appeal. Vintage designs are a result of a dive into the archives for inspiration. Legacy pieces like the washed leather jacket, ‘90s-style slip dresses with lace inserts, earlynoughties boho tops and biker jackets are repurposed with a modern twist. The crisp minimalism is disrupted with touches of whimsy and glamour, like lush foliage and wild animal prints. Laid-back pieces where nothing is confined – be that the occasion or season. @maxandco

FASHION CONNECTS

FRANCE AND BAHRAIN

T

The much anticipated final fashion show of Fashion Week Paris to Manama will take place this month and we’ve got all the details.

he third edition of Fashion Week Paris to Manama (FWPM), an initiative from the French Embassy in Bahrain, took place from October 21 to 26, 2023, and the final fashion show happens on February 1. During the week dedicated to fashion, a series of workshops and a competition were held on the topic: The Journey of the Abaya from Yesterday’s Culture and Heritage Outfit to the Sustainable and Fashionable Piece of Tomorrow. By organising the third edition of FWPM, the French Embassy confirms its longstanding commitment to promoting young talents in the country and contributing to the consolidation of a creative and sustainable fashion industry in the Kingdom together with the best French, Bahraini, and regional partners. Bahrain, like France, is home to a wealth of talent that deserves to be better known – ‘Make it Iconic’ as they say in France. Before October’s week-long FWPM, a local jury composed of Noof Alshekar (NS by Noof), Sara Noorudin (JAY) and Mervyn James (Maraya Training Center) selected the 15 designers to participate in the programme. 80

www.ohlala-magazine.com

The chosen talents received mentoring sessions on technical and creative aspects from the local jury and Razan AlArayedh (Razan AlArayedh fashion brand founder) to refine their creations to be showcased at the end of the fashion week. To prepare for the final show, the designers met Donya Al Mousa, stylist and creative consultant from TPBT, and her team to discuss scenography and accessories to complement the outfits, as well as Amal Sanad Al Makna (founder of Kyan Jewellery), who created customised pieces for each designer’s masterpiece. Participants’ star creations were inspired by the competition theme and judged by the jury. They also worked together with the MB Models International team for fittings and a rehearsal. On October 21, the designers presented their masterpieces to a jury including local and international experts and representatives: Huda Al Alawi (Director of Communication and Promotion, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities), Faisal Al Arayedh (Associate Director – Creative Sectors, Tamkeen), Hamid Alasfoor (General Manager, Maraya Training

Center), Nada Alawi (CEO and Creative Director, ANNADA), Professor Jean-Pierre Al Esmar (Academic Vice President, Royal University for Women), Alexandra Von Canisius (Head of Retail, Tyrano and Saks Fifth Avenue), Marie-Laure Charrier (Deputy Head of Mission, French Embassy in Bahrain), Paul Kaplan (Fashion Design Teacher, Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) Paris), Jason Muller (Hydur Workshop), Nezha Najih (Business Development Director, Marya Training Center) and Denis Ravizza (Co-Founder and Art Director, ESMOD Dubai). The following day, the 15 selected designers individually met the three international experts: Denis Ravizza, Paul Kaplan and Yaser Albeer (founder of the Designers Hub Dubai and Creative Director, Yaser & Mayasa Co.) at the Pearling Path Visitor and Experience Center. Each presented their six-piece collection created for the final show of FWPM and received valuable feedback and advice on how to improve it. Throughout the week, the designers had the opportunity to participate in intensive workshops and talks at the +973 Artisanat Creative Entrepreneurs premises, which is an incubator for creative talents. And the international experts met with Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design students of the Royal University for Women to talk about their experiences and careers and enrich the young people’s knowledge about the field of international fashion. The climax of this exciting FWPM is the long-expected fashion show that happens this month. It combines creations from last year’s competitors and the new talents of FWPM 2023. The final show exhibits the five awarded designers from the 2022 edition with their new capsule collections, as well as the 15 selected 2023 designers with their six-piece collections and masterpieces. The winners for 2023 will be revealed and given their respective awards. The FWPM 2023 show is hosted by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) and will take place at the Pearling Path Visitor Center in Muharraq. The FWPM 2023 is organised by the French Embassy in Bahrain and supported by Tamkeen, in collaboration with +973 Artisanat Creative Entrepreneurs, Maraya Training Center, Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) Paris, Alliance Française Bahrain, ESMOD Dubai, The Designer’s Hub Dubai, Yaser & Mayasa Co. and the Royal University for Women. Moreover, the FWPM 2023 is endorsed by more than 35 strategic partners and sponsors from Bahrain. OHLALA had the opportunity to talk to Denis Ravizza and Yaser Albeer when they were in Bahrain to understand more about their roles in this unique initiative. www.ohlala-magazine.com

“In a mentoring situation, the main elements I am looking for are the collection’s coherence, the deepest expressivity of the collection’s concepts and the message of the story behind the creations.” - Denis Ravizza OHLALA – How did fashion enter your life? What is your first memory that connected you to this field? Denis Ravizza – Fashion entered my life by observing how my parents were dressed on a daily basis and for social events back then, they followed the latest trends and were quite daring. OHLALA – Sharing knowledge is an important aspect of making us humans. How did you decide that teaching/ mentoring was something you wanted to do? Denis – Having spent most of my career working in the fashion industry as art director and creative director for various brands in Europe, America and Asia, the time came to give back all the expertise I had accumulated to the young generation of fashion entrepreneurs, either to the students of ESMOD Dubai The French Fashion Institute or to outsiders who did not get the chance to study fashion academically. OHLALA – In your opinion, what is the most important aspect of mentoring? How do you help young talents succeed in their career paths? Denis – The most important aspect of mentoring, particularly in fashion, is the ability to adapt knowledge and transfer it individually, case by case, particularly in this field where each individual has a different creative mind. I help young talents to structure their creative ideas with a customised methodology which contributes to sound research and development, leading to coherent and meaningful collection concepts. Once the results are achieved and aligned with international standards, my next interventions are to support their brands through various aspects. OHLALA – How did you get involved in the Fashion Week Paris to Manama (FWPM)? What is your view of the project? Denis – I was invited by the French Embassy to the Kingdom of Bahrain to be part of the jury panel, to review the selected designers’ collections, and, as an instructor, to conduct lectures and workshops with the designers. I fully support and find the project initiated by the team at the French Embassy to be very innovative and impactful for the participants. As France is historically the reference in fashion, sharing culture and transmitting expertise are key aspects of fashion. OHLALA – When observing the creations, what key elements were you looking for? What was your overall impression of the presented pieces? Denis – In a mentoring situation, the main elements I am looking for are the collection’s coherence, the deepest expressivity of the collection’s concepts and the message of the story behind the creations. Another important criteria in my book is the designer’s knowledge and skills in making the garments of their collection.

www.ohlala-magazine.com

OHLALA – What did you like most about being part of FWPM? Can you highlight a specific moment? Denis – What I liked most was the collection development workshop I conducted with the designers, which was about getting them to express and reveal creative ideas that most of them did not know they were capable of. I was amazed at seeing the participants putting in all their energy during the workshop. The most memorable moment was hearing from many of them: “You changed my life and my way of thinking.” OHLALA – You came to mentor, but what did you learn from this experience? Denis – I learned how impactful the cooperation between two countries can be, Bahrain and France, in that specific case and the meaningful contribution to an individual’s personal and professional enrichment. OHLALA – What would be your golden advice for those starting in this industry? Denis – My golden advice for those starting in the fashion industry is to first learn the basics from a fashion school such as ESMOD Dubai, which is only one hour away from Bahrain. A fashion designer needs creative, technical and business skills to start his journey in the fashion industry.

“In my opinion, the essential aspect of mentoring is to provide practical solutions.” - Yaser Albeer social media, but guidance is missing to implement and establish a sustainable business. OHLALA – How did you get involved in the Fashion Week Paris to Manama (FWPM)? What is your view of the project? Yaser – The French Embassy contacted me and I loved the project since it aligns with my values of supporting local talents. Also, I appreciate their support in achieving fruitful cooperation in the field of fashion together. OHLALA – What was your overall impression of the presented pieces? Yaser – I guided the designers during the one-to-one mentoring sessions throughout the creation process and confection of their pieces for the judging panel. It was evident that the designers need more guidance in order to challenge themselves to build and develop their skills. OHLALA – What did you like most about being part of FWPM? Can you highlight a specific moment? Yaser – I liked the idea of sharing my expertise. Thanks to my experience in the regional market, I provided the local designers of the Kingdom with a range of wider fashion views to challenge themselves by developing their designs or changing their way of thinking.

OHLALA – How did fashion enter your life? What is your first memory that connected you to this field? Yaser Albeer – Since I was 10, I used to go to my father’s textile shop in Baghdad, a 100-year family business. At that time, I was selling fabrics to ladies and I grew up with designs, colours and fashion. One of the funny memories was that the customers were not taking me seriously as I was a student in the engineering field and still going daily to the shop as I already was passionate about fashion and fabrics. OHLALA – Sharing knowledge is an important aspect of making us humans. How did you decide that teaching/ mentoring was something you wanted to do? Yaser – During 20 years spent in Dubai, I noticed many local talents did not achieve their dreams due to a lack of knowledge and experience. For this reason, I thought of mentoring them and sharing what I had learned to encourage them through offering knowledge blended with experience.

OHLALA – You came to mentor, but what did you learn from this experience? Yaser – I learned a lot about the fabric history in Bahrain. It was interesting visiting Bani Jamra and discovering the weaving techniques. I learned more about the variety of fabric suppliers available in the Bahraini market. The workshops organised by the French Embassy and +973 Artisanat Creative Entrepreneurs were an amazing experience, and I look forward to further cooperation in the future. OHLALA – What would be your golden advice for those starting in this industry? Yaser – Work very hard. Your fashion business can grow worldwide, but you need to learn the essential keys!

THE HEAT! Spring and summer fashion is coming to stay. Find out what to wear in the hottest months of the year to enjoy the happy season in stylish looks.

A

nd even though winter hasn’t arrived yet (it’s definitely been warmer than previous years), spring and summer trends are already invading the fashion world. In the Middle East, we are more than ready to embrace the styles the new season is bringing as we barely took the heavy coats and boots out of the wardrobe. The trends see a mix of prints, colours and full-on metallics, but with a more minimalistic approach to cuts and silhouettes than usual – no more super volume (still some, but purposely done) or shapeless structures. Apart from sheer fabrics that have been seen everywhere (and that’s why it’s our OHLALA Fashion Picks this month), denim is the other star textile. Flower prints are always a safe pick during the hot season and, this time, they are as bold as can be – forget delicate patterns – with roses being a top pick. Accessories are always the best way to transform a look – consider belts your best friends for the season. Take inspiration from our favourite looks and styles to plan your spring and summer outfits! 84

Flared trousers became popular in the mid-sixties and are a fashion reference to the ‘70s – Sony and Cher helped make them a must-have piece. I

t’s that time of the year again when the zeitgeist has unilaterally bestowed the honour on February of being that special month of love. Though we prefer not to limit the best of our affection just to this particular set of days. Any reason to share, celebrate and express this enigmatic driving force we call love is as good an excuse as any! It’s great to be in love, to give, to receive, to care and share! But why just be in love right there where you are? How about skipping the usual gifts this time around and doing something a bit more exciting together? The feeling of love moves us like no other, so this time, let it inspire you to grab that special someone and get away to a whole new world or at least the next best thing – a scintillating new destination! Go on, add a few new pages of sparkle and wonderment to your love story, here are some of our recommendations: BORA BORA, FRENCH POLYNESIA Emerging from the seas in the heart of the South Pacific, the island of Bora Bora is the jewel of French Polynesia. Famous for its breathtaking turquoise lagoon (quite possibly the most beautiful in the world) and stunning white sandy beaches, it’s the perfect setting for a romantic escape. Even during the peak season when the resorts are full, Bora Bora never feels crowded, affording couples that carefree solitude that is rarely experienced among other island destinations. Surrounded by natural beauty, the majestic Mount Otemanu stands proudly in the middle of a lagoon of the clearest water that reflects spectacular shades of turquoise and blue. The lagoon is ringed by a coral reef dotted with small, idyllic islets called motu, where elegant overwater bungalows offer couples a distinct sense of privacy and also direct access to the sea, a dream stay! Take an early morning swim together before breakfast or spend the evenings sipping on beverages while basking in the glorious sunset. For the adventurous, scuba diving and snorkelling together in the azure waters, admiring the colourful fish and gorgeous coral gardens, will create memories to last a lifetime. Then spend evenings holding hands walking the serene shores of the palmfringed beaches speaking sweet nothings and making heartfelt promises to each other. There are few better places to be in love!

ROME, ITALY For couples who find joy in sightseeing and exploring new locations together, there are few places that can top the ‘Eternal City’– Rome. Steeped in history, the city embodies a certain passion, prestige and inimitable charm. After all, these February 14 celebrations are in commemoration of a Roman priest named Saint Valentine, who’s fondly remembered as the patron saint of lovers, and for a good reason. Once there, let your inner Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck come alive as you ride around the city on a Vespa like in the 1950s' film Roman Holiday. Then don’t forget to stop at the famed Trevi Fountain. Legend has it that if you throw three coins in the right way, you might soon be hearing wedding bells. Visit the Spanish Steps and click the loveliest photos that will adorn the walls of your home. Or watch the city float by as you take a romantic boat ride down the Tiber River. If you share an affinity for history, there are some of the best museums, art galleries, exhibits and cultural centres to explore. Rome invites you to discover and get lost roaming its cobbled streets for hours on end while also taking regular breaks to indulge in some of the most delicious preparations Italian cuisine has to offer. Then, after it all, unwind in the most fanciful way by booking a table at a rooftop restaurant and taking in the spectacular views.

MARRAKECH, MOROCCO Marrakech is the perfect place to fall in love for the curious at heart. With a mix of European, Middle Eastern and African cultures, the famous ‘Red City’ is a place like no other. Immerse yourselves into this special atmosphere by first booking a stay at a riad, a traditional Moroccan house designed to resemble an Oriental palace. These intimate and luxuriously opulent properties leave you feeling as if you’ve stepped back in time. reece is the country that I have visited the most. The proximity to Bahrain and diverse scenarios such as paradisiac islands and magical mountainous areas make this country a place to explore over many trips. However, if you want to taste Greece without leaving Bahrain, Yamaz restaurant at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa will take you there. Chef Nikolaos Koulousias is the maestro of the culinary experience at this authentic Mediterranean-Greek cuisine destination. In his words, what makes his menu so special is that he uses fresh local ingredients and makes them authentically Greek. Yamaz is located below Maison Sushi and underwent a major transformation to resemble a laid-back restaurant by the Mediterranean Sea. In this case, the vast Arabian Gulf is what you see from your table. The décor is full of natural elements in tones of blue and sand that take over cushions, chairs and lamps – tastefully designed to make you feel welcomed. The ample space is covered by retractable glass doors and ceilings that can be closed in summer or left open during nice weather for a delightful dinner under the stars, with the sound of the ocean and Greek tunes – most definitely the place to be during sunset.

The restaurant is gorgeous, but we went there with one mission: to eat! The first dishes to reach our table were various cold and hot starters prepared with multiple techniques. In the hands of Chef Nikolaos, the Greek Salad comes with compressed tomato juice and capers (traditionally added in his hometown in Leros), organic feta cheese and oregano. The Yamaz salad is one of the signature dishes and comes with crunchy mixed leaves, honey dressing, sweet fresh figs and smoked halloumi (smoked in-house for 48 hours), a combination of flavours that takes you to Greece with a twist. There is a section on the menu called Crudos (raw). From that, we had the Ceviche Tsipoyra, thinly sliced seabream marinated in lemon, stacked with mango carpaccio and adorned with passion fruit – an unexpected mix which was super refreshing with an exotic touch – and the Lepto Mosxari, thinly sliced beef, truffle paste, rocket leaves and kefalotyri cheese. The presentation is crucial, as the ingredients are layered so you get them all in one spoonful. The hot starters arrived. Perfectly fried calamari, baby squid and seaweed accompanied by garlic and lemon aioli, a favourite of the table, as we kept chatting and returning for more. The Arni Crochetta, two pieces of slow-braised lamb croquette with feta fondue, pecorino cheese and smoked paprika. A clever addition to this dish is the subtle tanginess of lemon and orange zest in the breadcrumbs encasing the soft interior; a small detail can transform a dish. However, the best was the Troyfopita, a phyllo pastry stuffed with organic feta cheese, black truffle and honey glaze. This dish combines Greek staples that I adore: flaky pastry, highquality feta, delicate sweetness from honey and the earthiness of truffles – love at first bite! After a show-stopping start, it was time for mains. We tried Xtapodi, octopus cooked to perfection, accompanied by white beans, celeriac purée and lemon potato, which was set on fire in front of us to add a grilled and smoked flavour, divine! For meat lovers, Filetto Mosxari was a succulent

piece of beef tenderloin that went very well with fried polenta sticks, olives and tomato confit. The traditional Moussaka, the Greek ‘lasagna’, prepared with layers of minced meat, zucchini, potatoes and eggplant topped with a smooth bechamel sauce is a comforting dish for many and was done to perfection. From the mains, my highlight goes to Kritharotto made with orzo and seasonal seafood that’s saffron- and orange scented. Chef Nikolaos said this is a recipe from his grandmother, a one pot dish created with love. It is very creamy with hints of tomato and mint, with each seafood element cooked at its best and a beautiful citrus flavour. The desserts were made not only for our stomachs but also for our eyes. The Portokalopita is a traditional orange semolina cake topped with frozen Greek yoghurt Chantilly and orange jelly; very dense with a robust orange flavour, perfect to be eaten with a cup of coffee. The Mykonos Karavi is a fun-looking chocolate concoction – a chocolate boat filled with all sorts of chocolate recipes, from mousses to sponges balanced with hazelnut. And the last and everyone’s favourite, The Athens Castle, a reinterpretation of one of the simplest and yummiest desserts in the world: Greek yoghurt and honey. At Yamaz, it comes as a Greek frozen yoghurt with honey and a surprise interior of poached apple – an ingenious dessert and the perfect end to this Greek feast. I can say that Chef Nikolaos’ creations took me to Greece, with flavours I recognised in a heartbeat. However, they were so well reinterpreted that they became something completely new and unique. I am already craving some dishes and will need many more visits to satisfy that yearning!

AN ELECTRIFYING

DRIVE

OHLALA SPENT THE DAY IN THE LATEST 2024 TAYCAN TURBO S THAT’S MAKING WAVES IN THE ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR SEGMENT.

O

HLALA is a fan of all things Porsche and we always relish the chance to get behind the wheel of any model we can get our hands on. This month, thanks to the team at Porsche Centre Bahrain, we got the opportunity to test drive the new, fullyelectric 2024 Taycan Turbo S. EXTERIOR Our first impression of the four-door sports saloon was that it carries the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. At the front end, the low and wide stance of the vehicle is particularly obvious. As a result of the compact drive components, the bonnet slopes down at a flat angle between two highly pronounced wings. The LED matrix headlights and the air curtains combine to form a visual unit that seems to float. The unique light signature with three-dimensional glass elements is further enhanced by the presence of four-point daytime running lights – both flatter and wider than those of any previous Porsche model. From the sides, we admired the sculpted contours of the new Taycan, along with the steeply sloping panoramic roofline. The short overhangs at the front and rear emphasise the car’s sporty proportions, whilst the

sleekly designed cabin sits on a wide body and 21-inch Mission E design wheels, both reinforcing the car’s lean and muscular look. At the back, the drawn-in C-pillar and pronounced shoulders of the wings enhance the width of the rear. A narrow, illuminated bar stretches from one side of the back end to the other and contains the Porsche logo made of three-dimensional-shaped glass letters. Further notable rear design features include an aerodynamically efficient diffuser and a spoiler that extends in three phases depending on speed. INTERIOR Slipping into the 18-way electric adaptive front sport seats, the driverorientated nature of the tech-laden cockpit was immediately apparent. The cleanly styled dashboard is a modernised version of the one fitted in the original 1963 911. The wing-shaped upper and lower sections of the dash stretch across the entire width of the car, where they effortlessly blend into the door trims. The instrument panel also features a clean, minimalist and ultracontemporary design, whilst the curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dash. All components are positioned to ensure the driver has everything required to drive the Taycan in easy view.

“The Taycan Turbo S houses two efficient electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear, thus making the car all-wheel drive.”

A novel inclusion in the interior is the compact direction selector switch in the instrument panel, replacing the classic lever in the previous models. The Taycan is equipped with two-plus-two seating as standard, but you can opt for a third seating space in the back if desired. With ample room on offer in the front and a comfortable seating arrangement in the back, this sleek sports saloon is not only aesthetically pleasing but functional to boot. INFOTAINMENT & TECH The highly innovative instrument cluster houses a 16.8-inch display with a modern tablet-like appearance. The driver can select between four display modes – Power Meter, Map, Extended Map and Reduced – each focusing on different aspects of the driving experience. A passenger display is offered as an optional extra. The elevated centre console features an additional 8.4-inch touch panel with haptic feedback. Our favourite feature of this panel was the integrated handwriting recognition that allows for the quick entry of street addresses. We also noticed that many classic hardware controls have been omitted, replaced by touch operation and voice control functions. The colour head-up display is another great optional extra, projecting relevant information directly into the driver’s field of vision. It features several display options, including a navigation display, a power meter and a user-defined view.

PERFORMANCE & SAFETY The Taycan Turbo S features a robust all-wheel drive set up with dual electric motors, one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rears. The model also comes equipped with the Performance Battery Plus as standard which enables it to produce 625hp. This allows the Turbo S to accelerate from a standstill with thrillingly fast acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds flat and it also pushes up to a top speed of 260km/h. Porsche have included a centrally networked control system for the car’s chassis that analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in realtime. Complete with adaptive air suspension featuring three-chamber technology, and four driving modes including Range, Normal, Sport and, Sport Plus, this metallic masterpiece is equipped to deliver a smooth and exciting driving experience. The all-electric Taycan can be recharged at home with 9.6kW of alternating current (AC). When out and about, the charging time from 5% to 80% is a quick 22.5 minutes when using maximum charging power at a charging station. This equates to 100km of range in just 5.5 minutes. With a battery capacity of 93.4kWh, the model allows for a range of around 450km. Lastly, it’s no surprise that Porsche have equipped the new Taycan Turbo S with a full suite of the latest driver assistance and safety features.

MISS OHLALA

Love

Language There are many ways to express your affection for someone, and Miss Ohlala brings three gemstones that are strongly connected to this honourable feeling. The relationship between love and jewellery is a historic one. The Ancient Egyptians used jewels to symbolise fondness and loyalty to their gods and loved ones. In Ancient Rome, they were exchanged as tokens of commitment and marriage; in the Middle Ages, rings were engraved with symbols of devotion and passion. Nowadays, many cultures worldwide use jewellery to express their deepest feelings. Some gems are directly connected to love – these are our chosen ones: The most popular gemstone is, undeniably, diamonds! They are revered as an unmatched symbol of everlasting love and commitment, commonly seen in engagement rings and wedding bands. Diamonds ignite romance with their luminous light, and their sparkle keeps it alive throughout the long journey of commitment. They also represent purity and strength of feeling. Ruby is known as a symbol of passion and fiery emotion. It is also a stone connected to the root chakra, providing a sense of self-confidence, which is great for those who lose their identity in a relationship. Its vibrant energy is believed to bring excitement and joy to romantic connections while keeping us grounded and secure with ourselves. The rose quartz and its delicate pink tone represent unconditional love; this gem radiates compassion and is considered a stone that opens the heart chakra. Its soothing energy heals wounds and promotes forgiveness and trust. Which is your favourite one?
