I feel that I can’t avoid talking about the theme of the month: love. What I appreciate most about this feeling is that it is just everywhere, from small gestures to significant romantic actions. You can fondly like some people very much but also feel it for certain things. At this exact moment, I am absolutely in love with the new trends for Spring and Summer 2025 (SS2025). I am a huge fashion enthusiast (those who know me are very well aware of that), and talking about styles for the new season is something that I adore. Inspired by an 1883 gold padlock brooch that symbolised protection, a central theme since Tiffany’s founding in 1837, the collection now includes narrow and small-scale iterations of the Lock bracelet, pendant, earrings and ring. These new creations are crafted in 18-carat rose gold and adorned with rare pink sapphires, one of the most sought-after gemstones in the sapphire family. The Ocean’s Future

Prada collaborates for the third time with National Geographic CreativeWorks, to continue its exploration of the groundbreaking Prada Re-Nylon initiative. This series of four documentary films highlights the origins and impact of the collection, featuring actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Sadie Sink, SEA BEYOND ambassadors Valentina Gottlieb and Giovanni Chimienti, and local National Geographic experts. Prada ReNylon, regenerated from plastic waste recovered from oceans and landfills, reflects Prada Group’s commitment to sustainable fashion and reducing reliance on new resources. This initiative ties into the SEA BEYOND educational programme, conducted in partnership with UNESCO, to raise awareness about ocean preservation. Preppy Redesigned

Weekend Max Mara and Sebago have teamed up for a three-year co-branded collaboration, debuting with a Spring and Summer 2025 capsule with a refreshed take on Sebago’s iconic Dan penny loafer. This classic design, originally popularised by 1950s Ivy Leaguers, remains a hallmark of the classic American preppy aesthetic. Crafted from smooth brushed leather, the loafers feature handsewn details, a durable waterproof sole with moulded rubber heels, and an unlined beefroll upper for effortless style. With this collaboration, the Dan loafer gets a modern update with micro studs, a detachable tassel for versatility and Weekend Max Mara butterfly studs subtly adorning the sides. Available in black, burgundy and brown, they are rebellious and perfect for any season.

Kenzo and Japanese graphic artist Verdy worked on a colourful collection, the Kenzo Verdy Market, packed with playfulness. First shown during the Spring and Summer 2025 runway show, the collaboration highlighted the artist’s bold pop graphic style reimagining Kenzo’s house codes through three charming characters: Winky the Tiger, Deezy the Flower, and Bimpy the Elephant. The collection features a mix of ready-to-wear pieces and lifestyle products, including cosy blankets, plush backpacks, decorative carpets and snow globes. Special pop-up activations were held in iconic locations like Dubai Mall, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann and Hankyu Osaka, adding to the buzz. To celebrate, Kenzo created a video game-inspired campaign, where Verdy’s characters embarked on an adventure with a nostalgic 2000s' aesthetic and an exclusive soundtrack by Japanese rapper Young Coco.

Boucheron’s Creative Director Claire Choisne breathes life into Frédéric Boucheron’s wild vision with Untamed Nature, a 28-piece collection celebrating the raw beauty of flora and fauna.

Boucheron’s 2025 Histoire de Style high jewellery collection, titled Untamed Nature, is a masterful homage to Frédéric Boucheron’s vision of the natural world – wild, raw and unconstrained. Claire Choisne, the maison’s Creative Director, reinterprets this legacy, crafting 28 avant-garde creations that seamlessly merge nature and the human form. These transformable pieces celebrate Frédéric’s work and how jewellery interacts with the body. From ivy vines to thistles, butterflies to dragonflies, the brand’s founder’s fascination with untamed flora and fauna shaped his creative ethos. Unlike his contemporaries, who often favoured stately blooms and regal beasts, he sought inspiration from nature’s overlooked yet resilient elements – wild roses, clovers and even wilting leaves. His devotion to detail, supported by a library of over 600 botanical and scientific studies, lives on in the maison’s archives, which continue to inspire today.

PLANTS

Nature’s botanical wonders have always been central to the maison’s creations. Take Vaccinium Microcarpum, the resilient lingonberry. Known for thriving in extreme conditions, a cascading brooch reflects this hardy spirit. Detachable stems allow versatile wear, from brooch to necklace, while the intricate openwork and snow-set diamonds elevate the 84 handcrafted leaves. This marvel required 3,600 hours of meticulous artistry. Similarly, the Avena Sativa tiara honours the gentle sway of oat grass. The lightweight head jewels feature delicate diamondpaved spikelets, dancing with each movement. Their multifunctional design transforms them into brooches, demonstrating innovation in hair jewellery. The Cyclamen Elegans is celebrated in asymmetrical earrings and a ring that capture its grace. Painstakingly set with 101 rose-cut diamonds, the petals radiate a soft luminosity. In contrast, Daucus Carota, or carrot flower, finds its charm in a fluffy diamond-studded brooch. Its intricate clusters embody purity and innocence, introducing fresh inspiration to the collection.

INSECTS

Boucheron’s insect-themed pieces breathe life into these tiny marvels. The Bombus Terrestris, or bumblebee, dazzles with its lifelike wings of engraved rock crystal and mother-ofpearl. A concealed runner mechanism allows this bee to take flight as either a ring or brooch, a feat of technical ingenuity. Equally captivating, the Lucanidae Cervus, or stag beetle, celebrates strength with its diamond-encrusted design. With a simple press of its hidden mechanism, it transforms seamlessly from brooch to ring. Through these exquisite creations, the brand masterfully captures nature’s resilience, grace and adaptability.

SEA’S THE DAY

Looking for a new spa escape, Bushra Hakim found herself at Thalassa Wellness & Rehabilitation Center at Sofitel Bahrain, where a journey inspired by the sea left her fully rejuvenated.

I’m usually a creature of habit when it comes to spas, rarely venturing beyond my tried-and-tested favourites. But, after hearing great reviews from my colleagues about the spa at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, I was excited to give it a try. Thalassa means sea in Greek and brings inspiration from the ocean, with treatments and therapies rooted in marine elements. Intrigued and curious, I decided to make the drive from one end of Bahrain to the other – and what awaited me was worth every kilometre.

Upon arriving at the hotel gates, I was directed to the private entrance of the spa and was delighted to find reserved parking for guests heading there just for a pampering day – an excellent start. As I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the spa manager, Catrina, who handed me a consultation form to fill out. While I settled in with a cold towel and a glass of refreshing lemoninfused water, she explained the treatment planned for me. It was to be an 80-minute OLIGOMER PURE invigorating, energising, re-mineralising Balneo and massage treatment, a signature offering designed to detoxify, relax muscles and energise the body. My wonderful therapist for the day, Mary Anne, introduced herself and led me to the ladies’ section of the spa. Walking through the automatic wooden door felt like entering another world. It was as if I’d stumbled into a secret lair, away from the world. The space was made up of wood, where candlelight and dim lighting set the mood perfectly for some me time. I was given a quick tour of the facilities, which included a seawater swimming pool exclusively for women, a mixed freshwater pool, sauna, steam rooms and a serene relaxation area. The changing area, however, was a personal favourite. An architectural delight, it featured a high domed ceiling with a radial flower motif and a striking crystal chandelier. It was luxurious, serene and the perfect introduction to what was to come.

Draped in a plush robe (lightly scented with a soothing fragrance) and slippers provided in my locker, I was ready to begin. Mary Anne led me to the hydrotherapy room, where a multi-jet tub awaited. But first, the treatment commenced with me lying on a bed as she used Phytomer’s Marine Mist to create a calming atmosphere. She guided me through deep breathing with Phytomer’s Relaxing Serum, setting the stage for the session. Using a natural sea sponge, she performed dry body brushing, gently exfoliating and stimulating circulation. This was done to relax and exfoliate the body for maximum absorption of the steps ahead. After, I settled into the perfectly warm seawater tub, the jets were activated, which targeted different muscle groups in succession, with minerals in the water keeping me afloat. The sensation was both invigorating and soothing, as the water pressure worked away at any tension in my body. Phytomer’s OLIGOMER PURE bath powder and the Oligoforce Invigorating Enforcement Serum were added to the water. These products, rich in marine minerals, are designed to reduce fatigue, relieve muscle tension and promote overall well-being. To enhance the experience, Mary Anne gently massaged my scalp and forehead. She also left me with a cold towel and lemon-infused water to sip as I soaked, allowing me to completely unwind. The bath lasted about 20 minutes, leaving my skin feeling silky and my muscles relaxed. Following her instructions, I took a quick shower without soap to allow my skin to continue absorbing the mineral-rich water.

The next part of the treatment was the massage. The dimly lit room, warmed to perfection, felt like a cosy cocoon shielding me from the chilly weather outside. Mary Anne asked about any areas of concern, and I mentioned the tech neck and stiff shoulders that had been bothering me. She also inquired if I’d be comfortable with a stomach massage –something I’d never tried but was open to experiencing.

The massage began with another spritz of the Phytomer Marine Mist, infusing the air with tranquillity. Instead of traditional oils, she used Phytomer’s Ultra Nourishing Body Cream, which felt luxurious on my skin and something that was much needed for my dry winter complexion. Starting at my feet, she gave meticulous attention to every detail, moving upwards with slow, deliberate strokes. Her touch was both firm and gentle, striking the perfect balance. Often overlooked, the core is an essential muscle group, and the massage of my stomach left me feeling unexpectedly restored.

The highlight, however, was her focus on my neck and shoulders. Her intuitive hands seemed to zero in on every knot and source of tension, melting them away with expert precision. By the time she worked on my back, I was so deeply relaxed that I must’ve taken a power nap without even noticing it. When the therapy ended, I was escorted to the relaxation area, where I was offered a selection of teas. I chose ginger, which felt soothing against the backdrop of the cold weather. Reclining on the lounger, sipping my tea, I reflected on the exceptional experience I had just enjoyed. Every detail, from the personalised care to the ambient setting, was thoughtfully curated to ensure complete relaxation and rejuvenation.

Reluctantly, I returned to the changing room, taking a moment to absorb the luxurious surroundings one last time before getting dressed. As I left the spa, I made a mental note to return – next time, with plans to fully explore the rest of its incredible amenities and make the most of the ladies’ day offer that runs every Monday. Whether you’re in need of a quick recharge or a full day of pampering, this is the place to be. I, for one, cannot wait to go back.

OHLALA – Have you always wanted to work in hospitality? How did you start your career in this field?

Ekaterina Akatcevich – Hospitality has always been a passion for me. My journey began in 2001 at the Rocco Forte Astoria Hotel Saint Petersburg, part of the prestigious Rocco Forte Hotels Brand. I started as a trainee in housekeeping while studying tourism and hospitality management and economics at university. From those early days, I was captivated by the energy and opportunities this industry offered to connect with people and create unforgettable experiences. I have been working with the Marriott brand for 10 years, from Moscow, then Qatar and now Bahrain. Every step since has been a deliberate move to deepen my expertise and deliver excellence in luxury service.

OHLALA – If you could highlight one moment in your career, what would it be and why?

Ekaterina – I must highlight, not one, but two major moments in my career – first, when I moved to Doha, as a Director of Operations for The St. Regis Doha, and entered the luxury world within Marriott International. The second amazing step forward was moving to the beautiful Kingdom of Bahrain, as Director of Operations for The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain. It’s not only a career milestone but also an opportunity to contribute and work with the values that The Ritz-Carlton carries, something that has inspired me throughout my journey in this industry.

OHLALA – What makes you love what you do?

Ekaterina – It’s the people – both the guests and our Ladies and Gentlemen. I love creating environments where guests feel genuinely cared for and where teams feel empowered to deliver exceptional service. Hospitality is about building connections, and each day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference in their lives.

OHLALA – You have a Food and Beverage (F&B) background. How does this experience help in your current position?

Ekaterina – My F&B background has been invaluable in shaping my approach to operations. It taught me the importance of attention to detail, creativity and adaptability. These skills are crucial when managing multiple departments and ensuring every touchpoint aligns with our brand promise. F&B is also at the heart of many guest experiences and my background allows me to elevate these moments strategically, you must have high intent, at all times.

OHLALA – The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain is an iconic property in the country and recently celebrated 30 years. How do you feel about being a new member of its team?

Ekaterina – It’s an absolute honour to join such a prestigious property with a rich legacy of excellence. As one of the most respected hotels in the region, The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain has set the benchmark for luxury and exceptional service. I’m especially privileged to work with very professional Ladies and Gentlemen under the leadership of our General Manager, Mr Bernard de Villèle, who has been recognised as General Manager of the year 2023 in the region. His dedication to excellence and vision for the property inspire me every day, and I’m eager to contribute to this extraordinary team.

OHLALA – As the new Director of Operations, what do you expect from this position, and what impact do you want to create?

Ekaterina – I see this role as an opportunity to refine operational excellence while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. My goal is to ensure every guest interaction reflects The Ritz-Carlton’s commitment to excellence. I also aim to empower the team to grow professionally and bring forward new ideas that enhance the guest experience.

OHLALA – How do you see the property moving forward in the next few years?

Ekaterina – The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain has a strong foundation, and I see its future anchored in continuous innovation and sustainability. With evolving guest preferences, we will enhance our offerings to ensure relevance while maintaining our luxury standards. Strengthening our community presence and embracing cutting-edge hospitality trends will also be key to maintaining its position as one of the most respected hotels in the region. We are constantly innovating and moving forward, with a start-up mind setup.

OHLALA – What has caught your attention the most in the four months you have been living in Bahrain?

Ekaterina –The extraordinary warmth of the people and the rich cultural heritage of Bahrain have been truly remarkable. It’s a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, and the sense of community here is heartwarming. I’ve also been impressed by the strong appreciation for hospitality in the region, which aligns perfectly with my passion to really live by Ritz-Carlton’s famous motto, saying that we provide the finest personal service and facilities, we enliven the well-being of each other and create Ritz-Carlton guests for life.

LaRocca embraces love with an Italian accent in February. Fernanda Langhammer headed there to try some of the Valentine’s dishes and signature recipes.

Think of an Italian escape without boarding a plane – visiting LaRocca Ristorante & Pizzeria Bahrain will give you this exact sensation. This charming eatery in Saar reproduces the feeling of walking on a cobblestone pavement in a lovely village and finding a hidden gem that makes your appetite, say, ‘pasta, per favore!’

With an enchanting setup in the outdoor area with cute round and square tables displayed with red and white tablecloths, it exuded love vibes on the day of our visit. To celebrate the Valentine’s month, the entire place was decorated with stunning red roses, candles and majestic red cloth. Just as in Florence, well-known for its grape windows, LaRocca created a Ring

For a Rose red door with a cute bell where instead of a drink, you get a beautiful flower. The motto for the theme is #meetmeatlarocca, which lets you make it a romantic encounter or a Galantine’s moment – friends’ love can also be celebrated in this magic scenario.

The outdoor space is really well used, with a pizzeria corner where you watch the chefs preparing this Italian food staple in an imposing pizza oven. Inside, the vibe changes a bit, and you get a trattoria-like décor and setup.

A semi-private table caught my attention and brought to mind a touch of someone’s dining room. In a few words, it has a cosy, unpretentious, homely and enthralling ambience.

Nouf, the lovely owner of this unique eatery, and William and Fe, both in charge of our service, elevated the experience. Nouf explained every little detail and concept and exuded passion for her boutique dining spot that can be felt throughout the place.

It was time to start the dining journey. We sat at a beautifully decorated table and the first bite that came was the homemade foccacia served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was soft and warm and a sign of the wonderful spread we were to enjoy. The Salad Tartufo Ros’e was the first dish and was composed of spinach, mixed lettuce, wild berries, toasted pine nuts, parmesan and freshly shredded black truffle, to my delight (I love the truffle’s intense and earthy flavours). The dressing was made with truffle and rose drizzle, and it had a sweet acidity that was well-balanced and spot-on. Suppli al Funghi followed, arancini balls filled with mushroom and mozzarella, pesto drops and balsamic glaze, served with pomodoro sauce. It was such a delight to cut it in half and find stretchy, melted cheese and a touch of mushroom encapsulated in a thin wall of fried dough; it was absolutely delicious. Sometimes, these popular starters are very doughy, but at LaRocca, the filling is the star of the show, yum!

Of course, we had to try one of the pizzas (after seeing the special oven, it would’ve been a big miss if we didn’t). We had the Pepperoni Picante, with mozzarella and marinara sauce. According to the information on the menu, the dough is stretched by hand and is slowly proven for 36 hours. Letting the dough rest for this long adds a particular flavour and texture, which makes it perfect. When served straight from the oven, piping hot, it’s even better. The honey drizzle and chilli flakes added a delicious touch. For mains, we had one of the best risottos I have ever had in my life. Risotto is technically a simple recipe, but many places get it wrong. At LaRocca, the Risotto Funghi e Tartufo was cooked to perfection. The super creamy rice had the right texture and the truffle flavour was neither overpowering or barely there; just the right balance. It was everyone’s favourite dish.

We also tried the Beetroot Tortellini, which looked like a rose bathed in white sauce – so beautiful and right on the Valentine’s theme. It had a sweet touch and the dough was super light. The other pasta dish we had was the Amore Picante, which was basically a spaghetti pesto with burrata cheese. However, it was presented in the form of a show, with William placing the spaghetti in a jalapeño parmesan wheel while pouring the hot green sauce on it and mixing everything in there to extract the flavours from the cheese. After plating it, he shaved some jalapeño parmesan on top and decorated it with toasted pine nuts and a big blob of burrata cheese. What I loved most about it was that I like my pasta with a lot of sauce, and this dish had a generous amount. The sauce flavour and smooth texture were mouth-watering.

We moved into the last part of the menu: Dolci (desserts). We had two classic and popular picks: Tiramisu and Crème Brûlée. The first was served in a glass and was very soft with a subtle coffee flavour, while the second was all you expect from this traditional dessert: smooth texture, fresh vanilla seeds and perfectly thin hard sugar crust on top. I am not very fond of sweets, but it was absolutely delicious. And last but not least, we had the Cocoa Cradle, a special dessert crafted for the Valentine’s menu. A chocolate case, heart-shaped, filled with chocolate mousse. It comes with a little hammer to break the heart and a special message inside – I loved its theatricality. The dark chocolate flavour was right up my alley as I don’t really like super sweet desserts.

OHLALA GOT BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE NEW MINI COOPER S, A FUN, FAST AND FABULOUS MOTOR CAR.

How can one not get excited when getting behind the wheel of a brand-new MINI Cooper? This month, thanks to the team at MINI Bahrain - Euro Motors, OHLALA was fortunate enough to experience the latest release. The encounter left us even more infatuated with this iconic brand.

REFRESHED EXTERIOR

Laying eyes on the new MINI Cooper S was like seeing a long-lost love who had gotten better looking over time. Although the familiar shape of the MINI we have all come to appreciate over the years was still obvious, the improvements to the exterior have given it a more mature posture. We found the brand’s ‘less is more’ approach to design clearly reflected in the sleek lines, clean surfaces and balanced proportions of the 2025 model.

From head-on, the captivating presence is defined by several features. These include its octagonal front grille, short overhangs and round adaptive LED headlights. Not only has BMW ensured the latest MINI model comes with powerful LED technology as standard, but it also offers optional cornering lights delivering improved side visibility. There are three different light signatures for owners to choose from.

No matter the angle from which we viewed this three-door, we found it an agile-looking compact car with a modern personality.

At the sides, we appreciated the posh alloy wheels, constructed from recycled aluminium to reduce both weight and carbon footprint.

At the rear, we liked the prominent new triangular taillights that give an additional dose of distinctive charisma. Interestingly, no visible exhaust pipe is present on the 2025 model.

CLASSY INTERIOR

Once inside the Cooper S, the modern yet familiar cabin captivated our interest. This 2025 model houses a minimalistic interior that combines clear forms with surprisingly generous space, along with a new central instrument. The fit and feel of the fabric, knitted in a unique 2D technique, proved first-class. We also loved the design of the chunky steering wheel with a stylish fabric strap replacing the third spoke.

From the supportive and comfortable front seating, we were struck by the large central OLED display, situated where the rev counter of the older models used to sit. This distinctive 240mm display is the first circular OLED display in the world and is made from high-quality glass. It serves as both instrument cluster and onboard infotainment and assistance hub.

As the Cooper S includes no gear lever, there is instead a large storage space including a pair of sizeable cup holders. Our favourite feature of this section was the small area for a smartphone, complete with an elastic belt that keeps the device pressed against the charging mat. A generously sized glove box adds to the cockpit’s convenience.

We loved the little ways in which the interior design paid homage to the original MINIs. This is best displayed through the inclusion of the starter switch panel. Reminiscent of the original design, this small section now comprises five intuitive controls for the most important driving functions. These include a small key-like starter switch, volume control, experiences, drive select and the handbrake. Everything else can be controlled through the OLED display.

Space-wise, there was ample room in the cockpit, as well as plenty for two sixfooters in the rear. The 210-litre boot also offered more space than expected, fitting a large luggage bag comfortably. This area can be effortlessly increased to 725 litres by folding down the 60-40 split rear seating.

UPDATED TECH & INFOTAINMENT

Although we loved the exterior and interior designs, it was the in-car tech that really shone.

The previously mentioned OLED display pushes MINI to the forefront of forward-thinking mechanisation. By combining all vehicle information, this outstanding control system provides access to convenient operating functions for the driver and all occupants. We could also select between two visualisations.

We took our time going through the new MINI operating System 9, which was intuitive and easy to operate. Using the unique OLED display and voice-controlled MINI Intelligent Personal Assist, we found occupants now have more control, connectivity and personalisation options than in previous models. By simply saying ‘Hey MINI’ or by pushing the talk button on the steering wheel, we could activate the new voice assistant enabling us to operate the navigation, make phone calls, control the temperature, access journey information or just have a chat. Brilliant.

In addition, the OLED display offers a brand-new innovation in the form of in-car gaming. MINI, AirConsole and Mattel, Inc., have collaborated with UNO, the beloved card game, allowing stationary drivers to invite any passenger to a UNO Car Party via the infotainment system. We spent an hour or so taking advantage of this new inclusion and can report it to be very entertaining – a fantastic inclusion for the kids.

The 2025 MINI’s range of free intelligent connectivity features can be upgraded at any time. They are also kept up-to-date via free, over-the-air software updates.

SUPERB RIDE QUALITY

One of MINI's many claims to fame is its go-kart-feel driving capabilities. The new MINI Cooper S did not let us down in this area, and we spent a substantial portion of the day taking it through its paces.

Although the familiar feel of fun and freedom was certainly present on our test drive, we must add that the Cooper S seems to be a grown-up version compared to previous MINI models. The drivability has been polished, perhaps via the mindset of its BMW creators.

The 156hp, three-cylinder engine achieves a torque of 230Nm and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a respectable 7.7 seconds. When combining a quick-shifting gearbox with direct steering and a precisely coordinated suspension and damping system, we experienced nothing less than premium British small car, agile handling.

We were impressed by how effectively the car ironed out any bumps on the road, as well as the responsive steering and effective braking. These ensured we had full control over the vehicle at all times.

Thanks to the window design, the visibility of our surroundings was clear, with the side mirrors greatly increasing our peripheral vision.  The standard head-up display also ensured we could always keep eyes on the road ahead. Lastly, we found MINI Navigation to be extremely helpful. It assisted us with 3D visualisation and augmented views. It also provided up-to-theminute information on traffic conditions and even offered information on free parking spaces.

Safety-wise, we appreciated the camera and radar-based assistance functions. These included steering assistance and lane-keeping functionality when required. We were able to handle the stop-and-go situations confidently due to the inclusion of automatic speed and distance management.

OUR VERDICT

Whether focussing on exterior or interior designs, in-car tech or driveability, the new MINI Cooper S does not disappoint.
