Fashion History The iconic French house Givenchy has launched Catwalk, a book presenting a comprehensive overview of the brand’s haute couture and ready-to-wear collections from their debut in 1952 to today, showcased through original catwalk photography. It opens with a concise history of the house before exploring almost 180 collections, organised chronologically. Each era in Givenchy’s history begins with a brief overview and biography of the new designer (with names such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Julien Macdonald and Matthew M. Williams), while individual collections are introduced by a short text unveiling their influences and highlights. The title is illustrated with 1,200 curated catwalk images, offering a unique opportunity to trace the development of the house’s founder and powerful line-up of creative successors.

What’s up, Doc? The Italian brand MAX&Co. has launched That’s All Folks!, the latest chapter in their &Co.llaboration series. The capsule is a partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products for Looney Tunes-inspired spring and summer 2024 pieces. As a reference to the ‘90s, it imagines the cartoon characters heading to New York City to see their favourite band live in concert. The creations have grunge influences with iconic styles from the decade, like cropped, striped tees, slouchy pin-striped trousers, satin slip dresses and plaid skirts. The collection is reimagined with playful cameos from the Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, Marvin the Martian and more. The highlight goes to the funky sweaters.

Luxury Goods The jewellery house Tiffany & Co. announced the debut of Tiffany Crest, the latest Tiffany Home collection from Lauren Santo Domingo, the brand’s recently appointed Artistic Director of the home line. The collection is inspired by family crests of the late 17th century, which were featured on Chinese export porcelain. Embellished with recognisable Tiffany & Co. symbols and iconography, it is comprised of dinnerware, drinksware and table linens. The designs feature numerous themes from the house’s long-standing legacy. Jean Schlumberger’s iconic Bird on a Rock is perched atop an opulent shield motif in orange and blue background, inspired by the official flag colours of New York City. Within the shield itself, archival dragonfly designs pay homage to the famous Tiffany lamps, diamonds and hammers to depict the brand’s craftmanship legacy, and maple leaves for the New York state tree.

From the Middle East to the World The Saudi Arabian fashion house Leem have been expanding their presence in the United Kingdom becoming the first Middle Eastern clothing brand to launch on Selfridges.com. One of the most prestigious department stores in the UK, Selfridges carries well-known names such as Valentino, Prada and Stella McCartney. Leem is a reference in modest fashion with seasonal collections that please their growing loyal customers globally. Launching on Selfridges.com was a pivotal point in the brand’s growth strategy, mentioned Miles Young, Managing Director at Al Hala Group, Leem’s parent company. “We were thrilled to be expanding Leem’s presence internationally through our launch on Selfridges. com. he new watch combines floral sapphire with a central tourbillon. With just 50 pieces available, the MP-15 Takashi Murakami is the first limited-edition Hublot timepiece with a central flying tourbillon. “Our customers do not want to choose between technology and style: they want both, with no compromise on either. Our mission is not to fulfil their expectations but to surpass them. Our MP-15 is designed to do just that. It magnifies the sapphire, a material only the Hublot manufacture is able to work at this level, both in terms of complexity and geometry,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO. For this model, Hublot have fused the case, movement and dial in a unique arrangement. In the dial’s customary location sits the complication, with the hands occupying a peripheral position. At the centre is Hublot’s first series-produced central flying tourbillon – unique and different from anything they have created before. This central flying tourbillon features an impressive power reserve of 150 hours, almost a full week, an exceptional technical achievement for this type of complication. Hublot have also designed the tourbillon without an upper bridge. All its components are skeletonised. This makes it easy to appreciate how much work has gone into developing the MP-15, in which some of the gears and all of the tourbillon components – which appear to float in space – are visible. The timepiece is surrounded by Takashi Murakami’s iconic motif, a flower composed of 12 petals made entirely of sapphire. The bloom features soft curves and bold, generous volumes. In this piece, Hublot’s aim was to create absolute transparency in order to maximise the luminosity of the MP-15: sapphire case, sapphire case-back, sapphire crown, translucent flange and strap. The sun will never merely shine on this floral work of art; it will pass straight through it, illuminating its curves and reliefs. “Up until now, my work has focused on colour. It was a really exciting challenge to start a whole new chapter focussing on absolute transparency. The forms and volumes are perceived completely differently. With Hublot, we were able to preserve the individuality of my floral motif, but with a unique and different identity which was purer and perfectly in tune with Hublot’s mechanical universe. I’m very proud of the result!” said Takashi Murakami

rue to Chopard’s commitment to sustainable luxury, this new series of 41mm-diameter watches is crafted in ethical 18-carat yellow, white or rose gold. They come in four combinations of ethical gold and gems set in a subtle colour gradient: yellow gold and pink sapphires, white gold with blue and purple sapphires, white gold and tsavorites and rose gold and spessartites. Echoing the sparkle of the bezel setting, each of these models features the emblematic eagle-eye, radiating-patterned dial in the luminous hues that define the collection’s identity. They also bring Swiss landmark references. The Alpine Eagle Summit model in yellow gold features a Golden Peak colour bearing the name of the rocky summit in the Swiss part of the Mont Blanc massif. The two white gold watches are respectively adorned with a Zinal Blue dial, whose blue and purple reflections reproduce those of the eponymous glacier standing proudly in the heart of the Swiss Alps, and Vals Grey, recalling the silvery reflections of the quartzite stone found in the canton of Graubünden. The last timepiece in this series, crafted in rose gold, features a Pink Dawn dial, reminiscent of the sun’s early light as it rises over the mountains in the morning. All around these glowing dials, a setting of baguette-cut gemstones, patiently matched to form a subtle colour gradient, lights up the watch bezel and echoes the dial colour. The timepieces beat at the rhythm of the brand’s Chopard 01.15-C self-winding movement, which is visible through a transparent sapphire crystal caseback. Developed in Chopard’s watchmaking workshops and certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). The word Chronometer embossed on the dial is a reminder of this label of precision and excellence. The Alpine Eagle Summit is a tribute to the grandeur of the environment surrounding us, which Chopard remains determined to protect.

Guest Experience Manager Fanor took us through to an intimate welcome area. ‘Marhaba’ echoed as we walked through, heading downstairs to one of their two libraries. In the House of Inspiration, I was immediately transported into a magical world. This enchanting space was every bibliophile’s dream, with books ranging from great philosophers to cars, Versace and How Not to Die. While I lost myself in this opulent room of knowledge, they checked us in seamlessly. Walking outside, every sense was brought to life with the sound of water, the smell of honeysuckle and an abundance of tree species with the crystalline serenity of the lagoon calmly running through the middle of the property. Spanning over 280,000sq/m of lush greenery with a massive bird population, the resort functions across two areas, Zulal Discovery and Zulal Serenity. We stayed in Zulal Discovery, which is dedicated to families and welcomes guests of all ages. There are 120 rooms and suites, all with health and wellness in mind. They have a ‘no devices out of your room’ policy, which helps with a deeper connection to nature. There is a magnificent swimming area with a heated chlorinated pool and a cooler saltwater pool that forms part of the lagoon. Lifeguards are visible until 8pm and there is ample space on the plush recliners with fresh towels and water on hand.

The rooms have been inspired by the ocean with a great emphasis on Qatar’s rich heritage. Beautiful neutral colours amplify Zulal’s sustainability ethos with exquisite natural textures, lines and eco-friendly fabrics. Our Discovery Junior Suite was peaceful and elegantly furnished encompassing 59sq/m that includes a reclining area, an en-suite bathroom, a dressing area and a private balcony. The bathroom had a generous bath, perfect for taller guests. We loved the refillable pump-action bottles in the shower for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. The shaving kit offered a reusable biodegradable razor alongside a wooden comb, manicure set, hand soap, refillable hand cream and a hairdryer. The rain shower was simply glorious, with a convenient seated area inside the cubicle. The king-sized bed was nothing short of luxurious. It felt like sleeping on a soft cloud while the duvet enfolded me like the gentle embrace of Mother Nature herself. They offer a range of pillows on a pillow menu and all the high-quality linen is eco-friendly and biodegradable. I must say, the in-room wellness minibar was by far the highlight. They stocked the fridge with a selection of juice and two trays of juicy plump berries, energising date balls and dried fruits. It was the perfect nibble between meals and left us feeling invigorated and satiated. A really nice touch was a delectable selection of fresh tea leaves and flowers, ready to brew in teabags big enough to sit cosily in a teapot and plenty enough for two. We decided to explore and found ourselves at the exquisite restaurant Aizoon. Seated right next to the lagoon, Rony the restaurant manager, came over and made us feel like royalty. While we enjoyed the sea breeze, we sipped on refreshing mocktails; a personal favourite, the Kiwi Cucumber Crush with added lemon, basil and honey. It hit all the right notes, a beautiful culmination of sweet, sour and slightly spicy. We loved the lunchtime buffet with a succulent carvery of meats for my son and a crisp and fresh salad bar for my taste buds. The choice of homemade vegan ice creams was the creamiest and tastiest I have had in Qatar. Incidentally, www.ohlala-magazine.com

the resort only uses honey, including white royal honey from Kazakhstan and coconut sugar in desserts and mocktails. Zulal is completely dairy-free with a strong emphasis on plant-based cuisine, which suited me perfectly. But, they also have the best Wagyu beef, according to my son, and serve only organic chicken and vegetables and fresh seafood at the restaurants. At Acacia Restaurant, they have an Urban Cultivator where they grow micro greens and herbs under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. During my solo dining experience there, I was treated like gold by Ali, the restaurant manager, and Jerry, the restaurant supervisor for Acacia and Malbu. The star of the show was the hot grape leaf stuffed with a flavoursome lentil filling with tones of citrus, along with my favourite, muhammara and micro greens. The next evening, Ali enticed us to the Mediterraneanstyle beach club Malbu, where children are allowed. The aroma of grilled seafood on the open fire and the ocean air fills your soul with a deep sense of contentment. I also tried Al-sidr restaurant, on the Zulal Serenity side of the resort, where my taste buds were treated to their Pan-Asian cuisine. Eating the Detox Curry was the moment my soul left my body. I wanted to swim in it. A coconut base infused with lime leaf, sweet basil, red chili and galangal. The kitchen maestros graciously give out any of their recipes and they also have a cooking studio where you can learn to make various cuisines and attend workshops. For a more casual dining experience, the lagoon-side café Casuarina offers daytime light meals and snacks. Zulal, the Arabic word meaning pure natural water, focuses on the Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine (TIAM) system of well-being. It is a diagnostic approach to guide guests’ selection of programmes, discussing the appropriate therapy to sustain health and well-being. I met with Orranat, my consultant, at the Discovery Oasis reception to find out which packages were suitable for myself and my son. Orranat was gentle and intuitive as she guided me through a questionnaire about my health and background. We settled on the Stress Reset and Burnout Recovery 76

Retreat, which included my diet, daily treatments, activities and tools to take home to continue my holistic approach. My son joined the kids’ club suited to his age, the Falcon Studio for eight to 12-year-olds. His activities included exploring the environment (identifying birds, insects and plant species), sketching and rock painting. They have clubs for all ages and a range of options to stimulate physical activity, creativity, family connection and to develop positive, lasting habits. My treatments included a signature full-body Tadleek, which was a deeply relaxing massage enhancing blood and lymphatic flow, an Oriental scalp massage, to release tension from the head, neck and shoulders, the incredible Al-Qadam, a rhythmic foot massage that soothes tired feet and enhances relaxation, and Al-Batin, an abdominal massage that goes deep to alleviate the tension we carry that causes digestive issues. They were all done by different professionals. All the therapists used sweet almond or coconut oil on my skin and the therapy rooms were beautifully serene and calm while soothing all the senses through gentle music, touch and the essence of essential

oils. After my deeply relaxing scalp massage, therapist Kedar entered the room and performed an incredible Reiki session on me using crystals, singing bowls and energy healing. By the time I left the therapy room, I was floating. I could not have been more relaxed. My final session was Pranayama Breathing, guided by Aarti. She took me through various very effective deep breathing exercises in the exquisite yoga studio and showed me some stretches to maintain flexibility and release tension. I also had the opportunity to use the extensive gym facilities. The fitness trainers were extremely helpful and friendly and the equipment was topof-the-range. Zulal takes elegance and tranquillity to the next level. oing out for dinner is always exciting, mainly when you have something to commemorate. Our party of four went to Teatro at Downtown Rotana to celebrate my son’s birthday. However, what Teatro is offering is an unparalleled experience that will transform any night into a special occasion. The fun Le Petit Chef is a dinner show available in more than 61 locations worldwide, and it has just arrived in Bahrain. Teatro is found on the fourth floor, and right after stepping out of the lift, we were welcomed with a big backdrop display where we took fun pictures with food-related props. It was such a great way to put us in the mood for what was going to happen next. The beautiful mezzanine restaurant now has six unique tables where the dining journey happens. A high-quality projector placed on the ceiling transforms the tables into a big screen where the animation is played. Our entourage had two curious little eight-year-olds who couldn’t wait for the spectacle to start. We were asked to arrive 30 minutes before to get ourselves prepared. We received a few instructions, such as keeping the plate perfectly centralised in the light and the white tablecloth as flat as possible. The lovely Loubna, our waitress for the night, introduced herself and took our drinks orders. In no time, the music started and it was showtime! The entertaining performance began with a quick presentation from Le Petit Chef, the smallest chef in the world measuring only six centimetres. The duration of the four-course meal journey is approximately two hours and there is a unique film for each dish. As soon as the animation featuring the adventures of Le Petit Chef to prepare the dish – suffering hilarious misfortune at times – finishes, the actual plate with the wonderfully cooked food appears on the table, what an amusing way of eating!

FIRST ACT The little chef started working on our first course of the night, Bouillabaisse, a traditional Provençal fish soup originating from the port city of Marseille. As you can imagine, the entertaining short movie takes place on the ocean, where he deals with sea creatures in a fantastic animation. Made with prawns, crab, fish, octopus, clams and mussels, this dish is a classic staple in French cuisine. My dining companion said it had a spot-on ocean flavour, not overpowering, and the bisque itself was creamy, with the seafood cooked to perfection. A slice of a crunchy baguette with saffron aioli accompanied the soup. I opted for the vegetarian menu (even though the animation shows Le Petit Chef preparing iconic French dishes, you can choose a menu according to your diet). I had the cream of mushroom soup made with wild types of funghi; it had a distinct earthy tone and perfect creamy consistency. There is also a kids’ menu, and they were served a smooth sweet potato soup with coconut foam, a great option to please their young palates. SECOND ACT This was everyone’s favourite – most definitely the funniest one! Poor Le Petit Chef is carefully harvesting the ingredients for our salad in his garden when he needs to handle an intrusive mole… I don’t want to spoil it for you, but I have to say that it doesn’t end that well. Our burrata with gazpacho dressing was a bit all over the place as a result of this disturbance.

CHIC EATS

The refreshing salad was composed of tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, olives and arugula, with a burrata as the main character. When we cut it, the white, chewy ball leaked a perfect creamy filling. The sweet, rich interior was runny, yet it had the expected distinctive curds, an absolute winner with its fresh and delicate flavour. The kids enjoyed a comforting mac and cheese that they absolutely loved. THIRD ACT It was time for the main course and, if the previous animation was the funniest, this was the one that really played with all our senses. While Le Petit Chef was grilling Le Boeuf, a USDA tenderloin beef cut, to the guests’ preferences, a smoky scent invaded the room. It was as if we could literally smell what was being cooked in the show playing in front of our eyes. But the experience didn’t end there; an alarm blasted, and plates with glass domes entered the room. When they were lifted, a cloud of smoke escaped, giving us a sense of magic. Not only did a medium-rare piece of meat appear on the plate, but also delightfully grilled vegetables. My companion couldn’t stop complimenting the steak. It had a warm red centre oozing with juiciness and tenderness with great natural flavour, slightly charred on the outside. He tried the accompanying demi-glace sauce, but the meat had such an excellent quality that it was unnecessary to add anything else. The vegetables included baby potatoes, asparagus, mixed carrots, broccoli and cherry tomatoes, all grilled to a distinct charred flavour. Mine and the

kids’ plates came with a vegetarian burger (originally chicken for the kids, but these are non-meat eaters) that truly embraced the grilling experience. FOURTH ACT After having our appetites taken care of, Le Petit Chef embarked on a journey to prepare our dessert: Crème Brûlée. The creamy custard has traditional burnt sugar on top that Ajay, one of the maestros of the night, created with his cooking torch at our table to add its iconic crunchy top layer. LAST ACT The dining experience ended with fireworks on our tables, but as we were there for a special occasion, the screening changed into a cupcake celebration and a special Happy Birthday message from the little chef. I have to say that the kids’ reactions to each misadventure of Le Petit Chef were the best part – such a memorable night that will be remembered for years to come! he first Maserati GranTurismo was introduced to the public 75 years ago with the release of the classic A6 1500. Today, this globally renowned sports car manufacturer is breathing fresh life into GranTurismo’s lineage with the unveiling of a new modish model. OHLALA was invited by the team at Maserati Bahrain to test drive the brand’s latest creation, an opportunity we whole-heartedly accepted. EXHILARATING EXTERIOR The moment our eyes met the GranTurismo, we were captivated by its unique yet immediately recognisable lines. Maserati have maintained the classic proportions that fans of this two-door, four-seater sports coupé have admired for so long, while managing to further enhance its already massive appeal. The elongated bonnet announces the car in style, a feature that kept us staring at the front end for quite some time, taking in the sheer beauty of the design. Adding to the fresh and sporty feel of the face are vertical lights that lead the eye to the car’s black front grille, with gloss black slats and brushed chrome outline, complete with the brand’s iconic 3D trident logo. Shifting our attention to the flanks, we appreciated the intersection of the bonnet and central body with the three iconic Maserati air vents. Adding to the sporty prowess of the GranTurismo is the sloping roofline highlighting

the overall aerodynamic design of the vehicle, dropping dynamically to emphasise the curve of the pillar – also featuring the trident logo. The 20inch wheels at the front and 21-inch at the back, coupled with prominent brake callipers, hint at the sporty performance of this potent-looking sports car. At the back end, we immediately noticed the fresh, full LED taillights, the design of which is a mix between the brand's classic boomerang and harpoon forms. The brushed chrome accent above the rear trident logo and the chrome-plated exhaust terminals add further touches of class to the distinguished exterior design. INTOXICATING INTERIOR Once inside the GranTurismo, we sat in amazement absorbing the sheer mastery of what Maserati have managed to accomplish. Even though we expected only the best from this luxury brand, they still managed to surprise and impress us with the intoxicating nature of the interior. The pure and contemporary feel of the luxurious cabin is achieved through the seamless merging of Italian artisan tradition and state-of-theart technology. What was also instantly recognisable to us, was how every interior component is devoted to functionality, with all controls in touch format. The absence of a gear lever means the space now features a series of useful compartments that we found to have a great spacious impact.

The quality craftsmanship of the distinctive dashboard stood out to us, with its slim and elegant upper section appearing to soar over the main part underneath. Other must-mention interior features include the sporty yet comfortable seating in both the front and the rear, along with the new multifunctional sports steering wheel. The more we looked around the cabin, the more we noticed the use of topend materials and an obsessive attention to every detail. INFOTAINMENT & TECHNOLOGY Although the look and feel of Maserati’s latest GranTurismo is beyond impressive, it was only once we took a good look at the included tech that the car began to raise itself well above other would-be competitors in the luxury sports car segment. Firstly, we found the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) system to deliver an unparalleled digital experience, providing fluidity and responsiveness, as well as allowing for online updates and customisation. Additionally, we admired the new, tailor-made digital interfaces that provide an exceptional setup. The GranTurismo houses a 12.3-inch central display and an 8.8-inch comfort display. We recognised how both touchscreens are ergonomically positioned to facilitate easy access to the controls and the system is very user-friendly. Maserati’s exclusive new quick gesture control allowed us to effortlessly control the cabin’s temperature without taking our eyes off the road ahead. Even more impressive was the reconfigurable heads-up display that minimises driver distractions by projecting key information such as speed, maps and directions directly onto the windscreen. Our other must-mention tech features include the 12.2-inch digital dashboard that wraps around the steering wheel and the classic Maserati digital clock with multiple customisable functionalities. Additionally, the exceptional Sonus faber sound system and the digital rear-view mirror that changes into a display for the rear-view camera raise the GranTurismo to an even higher level of excellence.

PERFORMANCE & SAFETY Once we managed to pull ourselves away from the delightful design details, it was time to get the new GranTurismo out onto the road. Maserati has powered the GranTurismo with its performance focused engine, The Nettuno. The Nettuno is a six-cylinder engine with twin-turbos, giving you 490hp in the Modena engine and 550hp in the Trofeo engine trim. In any engine trim, you are pressed back to your seats with a smile spread from ear-to-ear. We were pleased to experience the control delivered by the steering, braking and suspension system. The car is not only super-fast but effortlessly handles corners, even at higher speeds. We were also impressed that the GranTurismo has an all-wheel drive transmission for the added traction to keep you safe on slick roads. A rotary dial on the steering wheel enabled us to select between four driving modes. COMFORT mode can be engaged for a relaxed journey, GT for everyday city driving and SPORT for an exhilarating dose of performance experiences. The Trofeo Engine trim is also equipped with the CORSA driving mode for the extra track performance the Italians are known for. The GranTurismo gave us an interactive driving experience by being equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance and safety features. TROFEO The Trofeo is the version with the highest performance capabilities in the new GranTurismo trims, powered by the Nettuno engine. The explicit focus is on performance, while never sacrificing comfort. This trim level is suited to enthusiasts of sports and adrenaline-fuelled performance, based on a high-performance engine paired with an elegant and luxurious silhouette.
