I cannot believe it is the month of November already, as I find myself pondering the theory of time once again and allow myself to be crippled by anxiety as I look back at 2019 at all the things that I haven’t achieved. One thing is for sure, there’s always time to talk about social outings, therefore, if you have to attend a wedding this Autumn, consider it a blessing as we have you covered. The season gives you the perfect weather to wear whatever you want, saving you from having to make yet another annoying decision. Embrace longer sleeves without the fear of sweating through silk, wear a silk slip dress with a sleek layer, even better try a lush velvet, moody florals, or autumnal jewel tones. Speaking of celebratory news, we here at Ohlala have learned that in recent months, a growing number of luxury fashion houses like Gucci and Michael Kors have announced a commitment to more ethical fashion practices. Maison Margiela shared that after designer John Galliano’s meeting with PETA, the brand would go fur free, joining the ranks of brands like Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Tommy
Hilfiger, Prada and more who have long eliminated fur from their collections. This new wave of major brands championing sustainable fashion marks a great leap forward for fashion and we’re all for it. Luxury brands aren’t the only ones joining the fur-free movement. Macys announced that it will stop selling fur at all Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores by February 2021 which, in my eyes, can only be deemed as a positive.
DESPITE THE CHILLY CONDITIONS OUTSIDE, YOU CAN STILL HAVE FUN WITH FASHION AND LOOK ON TOP OF YOUR GAME.
Dresses with this much confidence should come with a warning.
A celebration that the very simplest of fabric, cotton, can offer a universally lighter state of style.
NS by Noof the luxury handbag label created by Bahraini designer Noof Al Shekar celebrates a milestone of 10 years of elegance with a pop up at Saks Fifth Avenue Bahrain.
Over the past ten years, Noof has created masterpieces combining her love for fine art, architecture and precious gems as well as her fascination with the intrinsic relationship between the spirit of architecture and the art of jewelry, resulting in a decade of hand-crafted handbags and clutches.
Each meticulously hand-crafted bag is conceived as a sculpture and
constructed as a wearable piece of art. The collection uses the finest materials of exotic snakeskin, lambskin, alligator, and Italian leathers. They are also encased in 18k gold and platinum plated solid brass frames hand-crafted by skilled goldsmiths.
For Fall/Winter 2019, NS by Noof found inspiration from the 50’s capturing that era’s aesthetic of elegance and pizzazz. This collection introduces new designs including Grace, a leather shoulder bag inspired by the late Grace Kelly and Layla, the evening python leather box clutch embellished with crystals inspired by the Parisian lido dancers of that era.
The pop up at Saks Fifth Avenue will also launch two exclusive designs just in time for the festive season, Jazi, an exotic python clutch featuring a front hand strap with a platinum plated design and fitted with a semi precious stone, and the new evening belt bag Mini Zain, a petite rendition of the iconic ‘Zain’ envelope bag.
NS by Noof is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, City Centre Bahrain.

What inspired you to launch Swayta Sha?
My father inspired and embedded into me the love, culture and the making of this fine art. My family has been present in the fine art of jewellery for quite a long time, surpassing over a century now. My love and endearing passion for this fine art at a very young age grew through watching my family work in their own jewellery store. When I arrived in Bahrain an artistic calling awakened me and my passion for jewellery making was rekindled from my youth. And today, that is what has inspired me to launch my own jewellery brand, Swayta Sha. Tell us about Swayta Sha and its DNA branding
I firmly believe that every single woman should be able to look at herself in the mirror and be appreciative of what she sees and who she has become. My pieces when they are designed, I see a woman who has transparency of thought, clarity and structure and the aesthetics of my pieces depict strength of character and womanhood. It is a lineage of love and beauty combined.
Young entrepreneur Swayta Sha, a true embodiment of the woman of today - bold, beautiful and ambitious. With a fire that was kindled in her from the very start, she has powered through life armed with diamonds and gold.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I come from quite the pedigree of artisans when it comes to the jewellery industry. Right from my early days I grew up looking at gems, jewels and gold. I come from a family of jewellers, my great grandfather was a jeweller to the Nizam of Hyderabad, back in 1890 and his jewellery sold across the globe. I arrived to this beautiful island fifteen years ago with my husband and thereafter I had two lovely children. My brand today is a true embodiment of the women of today - bold, beautiful and dynamic. It’s in my family’s DNA that created the finest pieces for Indian royalty for several decades. Today I am proud to have my collection of jewellery being showcased at one of the most prestigious stores in the world, Saks Fifth Avenue, City Centre Bahrain. This whole vision was nothing short of exhilarating and adventurous alongside a strong conviction that I would continue my family’s heritage to provide the best value and design to my clientele.
With her fierce passion in the fine art of jewellery and a keen eye for precious stones. Ohlala discovers how SWAYTA SHA has made a remarkable presence in the glittering arena of Bahrain.
“When I arrived in Bahrain an artistic calling awakened me and my passion for jewellery making was rekindled from my youth.”
You have a keen eye for precious stones, what is your favourite piece of jewellery from your collection? Why?
My love for precious stones is so vast that I cannot possibly narrow it down to one stone, however one of my favourites would definitely have to be the Dancing Diamonds collection which, in my opinion, is very unique and sparkling.
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
Starting my brand in Bahrain has been an exhilarating experience full of upsand-downs. There were numerous challenges that I faced, some of which I still face today but I choose not to fixate on these difficulties. I feel that all challenges begin within oneself and how one perceives them, but I derive my strength from my supportive family and great friends in Bahrain to overcome said challenges. Special thanks to my two dear friends Tosin and Saby who have always been extremely supportive and encouraging on the Swayta Sha brand journey. My biggest challenge to date would also have to include interpreting current trends and keeping up with the latest and ever changing preferences of jewellery

Asia Jewellers, one of Bahrain’s best known jewellers, recently hosted an exclusive VIP event for the artistic Italian jewellery house Palmiero. Lovers of high-end jewellery gathered at the Merchant House Manama to see the latest collection by Palmiero.
Carlo Palmiero, the designer and founder of the jewellery brand Palmiero, attended the event to meet the jewellery collectors and introduce the ’40 Years – When Jewellery Meets Art’ collection. 40 years in the making since 1979, Palmiero’s jewels are unique objects, characterised by a refined and unmistakable style. Recognisable at first glance, Palmiero’s designs present incredible creative ideas transformed into inimitable shapes and colours – genuine pieces of jewellery art.
Palmiero’s jewellery and jewellery watches collections stem from a tradition of producing a limited number of pieces and completely unique designs, providing Palmiero clients the privilege of choosing a very personal piece. The designs are inspired by geometric shapes, nature, a dew drop on a blade of grass, or artistic references to the style of the great 20th century painters. Whatever the inspiration; genius, skill and passion shine through each piece, making them timeless precious objects, in a flawless union of past and present. Every single creation is entirely made in Italy at the leading jewellery making atelier in Valenza, considered to be the capital for Italian high jewellery. Each
creation is personally followed by Mr. Palmiero from the design to the finished piece. “The creation of a jewel and its uniqueness go well beyond designing its shape. Every element is fundamentally important for the success of every new creation. When a piece is created, I take care of every phase of its manufacturing, from the design and the material selection to the actual manufacture, by working together with a selected team of highly qualified designers, jewellery artists and artisans,” explains Mr. Palmiero.
To observe the breast cancer awareness month, part of the event proceeds were donated to Think Pink Bahrain Breast Cancer Society, a Bahraini non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the kingdom in regards to breast cancer awareness, education, and care.

Repossi will be displaying new editions and unique pieces including new High Jewellery collections in a novelty space designed to complement the signature styles: The Blast collection is inspired by tribal, African hand crafted and stacked gold bangles. Attracted by the idea of simple gold bands, Gaia Repossi remains loyal to her signature style, which combines the concept of stacking with floating diamonds. A selection of pieces from the iconic collections will also be showcased including Antifer, Serti sur Vide and Berbère.
Repossi was founded in Turin, Italy in 1920. It has emerged as an exclusive luxury jeweller, particularly renowned today for its iconic collections: Antifer, Berbère, Serti sur Vide. Since 2007, Gaia Repossi has been the Artistic and Creative Director of the House. She has

“Wings is both a beautiful and meaningful collection,” says Sara Prentice, Creative Director. “When we add to it we want to make sure any new jewels build on what we’ve already achieved. That’s why we’ve taken so much care in creating new Wings Embrace designs to incorporate the gemstones. The intricacy of the setting is part of what makes these new designs so special.” Each piece features the double wing design of one laid over the other. Feathers are clearly defined by openwork set with round white diamonds, while the palest of gemstones flicker beneath. Choices include pendants as well as rings that flutter above the finger. A growing demand for earrings is answered by a selection of studs and hoops, offering more ways than ever to experience the feeling of being held within Wings Embrace.
“The earrings in particular are statement pieces,” says Claire Scott, Head of Design. “Their bold shape draws attention to the face. For a more subtle effect, there’s the pendant held on a simple chain. Whatever you decide, these jewels have a richness of symbolism that’s made Wings such a popular choice for important birthdays or significant occasions.”
The House of Garrard introduces colour to its much-loved Wings Embrace design, balancing iconic silhouettes with the most delicate shades of gemstone.
Responding to demand, Garrard has enhanced Wings Embrace with new designs inspired by the iridescent colours cast as light passes through crystal. Pink and yellow sapphires and aquamarine catch the eye within the openwork of angel wings, which represent peace, purity and protection. Calibre cut, the stones create a seamless shimmer of colour on one side. Turn the jewel around and the stones’ setting is beautiful, their pale tones perfectly matching white, rose or yellow gold. The overall effect is subtle and delicate. It adds grace to the angel wing’s symbolism, while balancing the design’s bold silhouette.
THE HOUSE OF GARRARD IS THE LONGEST SERVING JEWELLER IN THE WORLD. ITS ORIGINS CAN BE TRACED BACK TO 1735, WHEN FREDERICK, PRINCE OF WALES BECAME ITS FIRST ROYAL PATRON. HIS ORDER MARKED THE START OF A LONG RELATIONSHIP WITH THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY, FORMALISED IN 1843 WHEN QUEEN VICTORIA APPOINTED THE HOUSE AS THE FIRST OFFICIAL CROWN JEWELLER. ICONIC JEWELS HAVE BEEN CREATED FOR EACH SUCCESSIVE GENERATION, INCLUDING THE DUCHESS

OF CAMBRIDGE’S SAPPHIRE CLUSTER ENGAGEMENT RING. SILVERWARE AND TROPHIES HAVE ALSO BEEN COMMISSIONED OVER THE CENTURIES, AMONG THEM THE ROYAL ASCOT GOLD CUP. THIS RICH PAST INFORMS A CREATIVE PRESENT WHERE HERITAGE AND DESIGN COMBINE TO BRING OUT THE BEAUTY OF THE PRECIOUS STONE OR METAL. FROM TIARAS TO TROPHIES AND RINGS TO REGALIA, EVERY GARRARD CREATION BEARS THE QUINTESSENTIALLY BRITISH HALLMARK OF HISTORY, CRAFT AND QUALITY.
The Fabergé Imperial collection is inspired by the jewelled splendour of the Imperial Romanov court, and evokes the rhythms of the Russian seasons, whether literal or metaphorical. The jewels, in true Fabergé style, demonstrate an intuitive interplay of rare coloured precious gems, diamonds and pearls with superlative hand artisanship, to capture and reflect the changing light, colours and atmosphere of each season.
In 1882 Peter Carl Fabergé took over his father’s very ordinary jewellery business. Together with his brother Agathon, he quickly transformed it into an international phenomenon. The success of the two brothers was changing the nature of the business. Out went the then fashionable style where diamonds prevailed. In came the design-led artist-jeweller with a penchant for colour through both stones and reviving the lost art of enamelling. They added objets deluxe to their repertoire, including objets de fantaisie such as the Imperial Easter Eggs, now regarded as pinnacles of the goldsmiths’ art. Today these are treasured in some of the world’s leading museums and private collections. The craftsmanship of all their creations was of the very finest standard. This formula of design and craftsmanship made Fabergé irresistible and the ultimate objects to own, as well as the gift of choice.
The celebrated series of 50 Imperial Easter eggs was created for the Russian Imperial family from 1885 to 1916 when the company was run by Peter Carl Fabergé. These creations are inextricably linked to the glory and tragic fate of the last Romanov family. They were the ultimate achievement of the renowned Russian jewellery house and must also be considered the last great commissions of objets d’art. Ten eggs were produced from 1885 to 1893, during the reign of Emperor Alexander III; 40 more were created during the rule of his dutiful son, Nicholas II, two each year, one for his mother, the dowager, the second for his wife. The series began in 1885 when Emperor Alexander III, through the intermediary of his uncle, Grand Duke Vladimir, commissioned an Easter egg from Fabergé as an Easter present for his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna. Initially planned by Fabergé to contain a diamond ring, the actual finished version, following specific instructions of the Emperor, included a ruby pendant of great value.

The heavenly vault as a background. Diamonds as shooting stars. The moon as a complication. Its 250 watches in 18-carat rose gold represent a mechanical and poetic work brimming with enchanting precision and craftsmanship.
The first Happy Sport watch with an astronomical complication represents the height of sophistication, finishing and functions. The traditional seven dancing diamonds waltzing around it in step with wrist movements are the unique signature of this collection that remains as successful as ever 26 years after its birth. And since Happy Moon is the first moon-phase watch in this collection, it is equipped with numerous subtle touches corresponding to celestial attributes.
Like the rest of the case, the Happy Moon’s bezel is made of 18-carat rose gold – an ethical gold that since July 2018 Chopard has committed to using in all its creations – and adorned with snow-set diamonds. Its dial features a poetic and luminous starry background, made of aventurine glass, a material recognisable by its deep blue colour and the glittering effect of its inclusions. To complete the night-sky appearance, Chopard has dotted it with gold studs and threads tracing the outlines of the most famous constellations in the Northern hemisphere. At 6 o’clock, the small seconds takes the form of the North Star, an age-old reference point, finished using a classic textured goldsmithing technique. Finally, Happy Moon displays the moon phases beneath the Chopard logo.
The graceful elegance of this starry sky would not faithfully reflect the Chopard spirit if it were not based on undeniably robust watchmaking fundamentals. The 96.25-C calibre driving the Happy Moon was entirely developed and produced by Chopard Manufacture. This movement offers automatic winding via a micro-rotor, thereby endowing it with the convenience required for daily wear as well as the finesse essential for a feminine interpretation. Its 65-hour power reserve is extremely rare for a ladies’ watch, as is its chronometer certification by the COSC.
The moon-phase display is so accurate that it will display a mere one-day deviation from the path of the heavenly body after 122 years. This astronomical precision is the hallmark of the watchmaking care that Chopard applies to the production of its ladies’ complication watches and which is entirely equal to that lavished on their male counterparts.
Chopard is a family-owned company imbued with a strong sense of independence, which means the various stages involved in making Chopard watches are conducted internally. Movement development; design of the finished product, gold casting; stamping and machining of cases, movement parts and bracelets; traditional hand-crafted decorations; surface treatments; polishing; assembly; adjustment and quality control: this entire range of watch production operations is fully mastered in-house by Chopard and applied to each watch bearing its name. Chopard’s Geneva workshops also perform the steps involving jewellery skills such as gemsetting, surface finishing and various artistic crafts.
CHOPARD’s Happy Sport line welcomes a horological and metaphorical jewellery creation of unprecedented sophistication, as HAPPY MOON raises its eyes to the sphere of feminine Haute Horlogerie.

16Get into the habit of using a cuticle cream–your nail beds will thank you.

11
When applying face creams, always apply in an upward motion to not cause wrinkles.
17To remind yourself to remove your makeup before bed, keep some makeup remover wipes by your bedside table!
18End your showers with a burst of cold water- it’s great for your circulation and de-puffing.
12
Getting into good skincare habits is everything - especially when it comes to eye creams. It’s kind of like exercise - you only notice how much it was working for you once you stop doing it.
19If you’ve been drinking or are feeling puffy, stick a face roller in the freezer and de-puff your face in the morning while drinking coffee.
20Use thicker creams in the winter when it’s more dry and lighter creams in the summer. Always use SPF.

Foundation is the skin-colored shield that is applied to the face to create an even, uniform color to the complexion, to cover flaws and, sometimes, to change the natural skin tone. In the world of beauty, foundation could be one of the hardest aspects of makeup, because choosing the right shade, coverage and tool to obtain the perfect complexion is often challenging. This is because the wrong foundation shade can look unnatural and completely ruin your makeup look, so here are some tips on our favorite foundations to use based on your skin type, your preferred finish, and your coverage needs.
Most foundations have different types of coverage, such as light, medium & full. If you love your skin, and you’re looking for something to wear on a daily basis, choose a foundation that says sheer or lightweight like the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Coverage Foundation, Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Foundation, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Illuminating Natural Skin Perfecter, Erborian CC Crème. If you want to even out your skin tones a little and you’re looking for a medium-coverage foundation, go for something like Zoeva Authentik Skin Foundation, Sephora Collection 10hr Perfection Foundation, Kat Von D True Portrait Lightweight Medium Coverage Foundation, Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr Soft Matte
Longwear Foundation, Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, BECCA Skin love Foundation
And if you want to hide any blemishes, redness, and hyper-pigmentation and you’re looking for a full beat face for Instagram, go for a full coverage foundation such as Smashbox Studio Skin Full Coverage 24-Hour Foundation, Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation, Make Up Forever Matte Velvet Skin Compact, Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick
How you apply your foundation is totally up to you. If you wish to have a natural skin finished look, go for a Beauty Blender sponge as this will give the most natural and perfect finish to your complexion. PRO TIP: The best way to use the beauty blender sponge is when it’s damp instead of soaking wet. In this way, the beauty blender won’t absorb all the foundation. However, if you want to apply foundation in the traditional way, you could always revert back to the foundation brushes like the Sephora Pro Foundation Brush #49 because of the cat tongue shape that will give you a medium to full coverage finish and you could also use Sephora Pro Flawless Brush no. 56 as it is a rounded dense brush that gives you a full-blown coverage. PRO TIP: Layering is the key, apply the foundation into the brush in little amount until you get the right coverage you want to achieve. In this way it will prevent you from over blending due to the amount of foundation you applied in the beginning.
We are forever looking for that perfect canvas when it comes to our foundation so Kimberly Pongos – National Makeup Artist for Sephora Middle East has pointed us in the right direction.

Thalassotherapy uses the restorative powers of the sea for your health and wellbeing so we channeled our inner mermaid and raced to the award winning SOFITEL BAHRAIN ZALLAQ THALASSA SEA & SPA.
Driving into the impressive grounds of the 5* Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, you know it’s going to deliver. This beach family resort is home to the Middle East’s only award winning Thalassa Sea & Spa. This was the main appeal for us, but, we learnt that this resort has something for everyone. Sofitel Bahrain is a spa hotel in a land of opulent hospitality, with nine hectares of private beach. The resort is set amidst beautiful, well manicured landscape and offers extensive leisure facilities from tennis and
squash courts to culinary diversity. There’s a Kid’s Club, a beauty salon, and an extensive gym. All in addition to the world class Thalassa Sea & Spa.
Having travelled the world visiting a multitude of spa brands, it is clear to see that Sofitel Bahrain is more than just a spa, or rather a hotel spa, it’s a complete experience. Here you have everything – the vision for wellbeing is reinforced by the resort, with healthy eating options, the onsite eateries and all of the sports and activities including swimming and yoga. All of these facilities and services can be enjoyed to give you the optimum holistic
wellbeing experience that extends beyond your time at Thalassa Sea & Spa. This haven of wellness puts the Middle East firmly on the global map of truly world class spa destinations.
Thalassa Sea & Spa can be accessed via the hotel itself or accessed via its private entrance - perfect for anyone only visiting the spa itself. The entrance to the spa is surprising for a hotel. It’s airy with an open ceiling space the height of 2 floors, and spacious, with a collection of world renowned high-end products to peruse through while you are attended to. Soft lighting, precious wood and delicate fragrances combine in the sophisticated and contemporary atmosphere of the 2,000-square-meter center devoted to beauty and relaxation for body and mind. Furthermore, you can make use of their wonderful facilities on a complimentary basis, such as the indoor infinity freshwater pool, seawater pool with hydrotherapy circuit, hammams and sauna with any spa treatment purchased. The moment the door opens to the spa zone, your journey starts. The ambiance was set with earthy sounds and intentional guiding lights. My husband and I were shown to our locker rooms to change into our robes and then we were led down to our treatment rooms for the Seawater Hydromassage Bath. I sank into the bath guided by my therapist as the water jets pulsated in a directional rhythm fixating on alternate points of my body. This was pure bliss. Deep relaxation. The kind where you think you’ve been sleeping for an hour, when it’s only been minutes. Throughout this 30 minute treatment the music was soft on the ear in the background and flowed through a sequence that complimented the treatment that I was receiving. All of my senses were ignited during this journey of
serenity ignited from the restorative powers of the sea.
Thalassa Sea & Spa clearly have a passion for wellbeing and it showed through the wonderful senses of the treatments that we encountered. Here, they offer treatments traditionally found at a spa, with a twist, such as their Phytomer
Signature Oligomer Spa Replenishment Holistic Treatment, which uses a selection of active ingredients over 90 minutes to allow you to immerse yourself into the heart of brand Phytomer’s DNA, to recharge the body’s batteries and continue on your holistic journey. A creamy no rinse scrub that combines Oligomer® Crystals, with its remineralising benefits, with Porphyra Conchocelis powder, and its exfoliating properties, for an ultra-soft, velvety and fortified skin was applied first. This no rinse scrub was perfect as I always feel as though going to the shower to rinse off somehow disrupts my zen psych, but, with warm wet towels I allowed myself to wind-down. This specific massage produced a fully encompassing holistic approach from the tips of my toes to the ends of my hair. My therapist ensured that this treatment provided the perfect balance between light strokes and presses and between deep tissue massage and a gentle hand massage allowing for an instant rejuvenating effect and incomparable relaxation. The hubby can certainly pamper me more often!
The treatment as a whole was deeply relaxing and re-energising, at one point I fell into such a deep slumber that I actually woke myself up snoring in the Couple’s Room - much to my Husband’s delight. This new body
treatment offers a unique multi sensorial experience based on Oligomer®; Phytomer’s mythic active ingredient with remineralising and fortifying benefits. The results? Well, my body has never felt more relaxed, re-energized and deeply revitalized. Finishing my treatment with my head faced down was something that I’m not used to when it comes to a massage, but it was welcomed as a comparable to when you’re left faced-up, as the back massage is always my favourite part and should always, in my opinion, be the last step. We also enjoyed sipping on the delicious ginger tea as we were hugged by the towering armchairs in our treatment suite. To finish off our pampering for the day we decided to enjoy a Paraffin Spa Manicure and Pedicure - something I’d never tried before but would highly recommend. My poor dry hands have been quite literally peeling away as-of-late, as have my husbands feet due to the change of weather and the use of air-conditioning throughout Bahrain. As the treatment gloves and socks were placed onto me I fell into a cocooned-like state. The heat of the wax opens pores and increases circulation to the hands and feet with the added bonus of helping to alleviate sore muscles and joints. This was the perfect way to end the Thalassa experience, but it was with a heavy heart that we had to leave. Although, next time… we will be sure to pack our overnight cases and stay overnight to elongate this sensorial experience.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your job role
I had a religious upbringing, and my father was my role model of leadership and professionalism. For 15 years, I successfully managed 10 towers of freehold - I received the “Certified international real estate expert” license which gave me the right to buy and sell in 62 countries. I published the first specialised real estate book to incite positivity and ambition amidst the young generations.
I’m proud to say that I was named the most influential woman for three consecutive years in one of the magazine’s polls. Some hard family circumstances shaped my way and made me an inspiration to others. My “Grandmother’s golden bell” crowns my life and professional experiences which integrates with the “Golden Gate” project that the design combines Bahraini sail and Indian gold.
I founded a flexible payment mechanism for investors and a program that establishes long-term relationships for residents. I love travelling, driving Formula1 cars, soaring and diving. As you can see, I’ve had and continue to have a busy life!
What role do you think global media plays, or can play, specifically in promoting gender equality?
This is very important and absolutely needed. It showcases their achievements to give them the full support to be a role model for others to be influenced and act upon.
Do you think that women’s positioning in business is fair? Or do we still have a way to go?
With 14 years of experience in Bahrain’s real estate market, EMAN AL MANNAI, as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for The Bahrain Bay real estate project, Golden Gate, has achieved outstanding marketing success for several leading real estate projects and has supported her career with her academic expertise and relevant certifications.
I believe that In Bahrain it is fair - however, in the world we have a long way to go. There is a huge support mechanism from the supreme council of women alongside the media. What advice do you have for other women who are looking to start a business or continue to grow in their career?
My main message would be to always believe in yourself no matter what, invest in yourself by education, relationships and networking . Don’t give up if you never fail you will never learn. Never stop, keep going and build your own empire.
“My main message would be to always believe in yourself no matter what, invest in yourself by education, relationships and networking.”

Member of Advisory Committee for Construction, real estate and services sector.
Name a strong female role model that has provided you guidance to where you are today.
There were lots of women in my life who inspired me, but the most important woman was my mother, she is so punctual, dedicated, caring and courageous.
What do you hope will result from WPS 2019 in terms of actions and takeaway messages for the participants?
I hope all the women who attended will learn from other women’s experiences. I left WPS 2019 learning so much from the other speakers and I felt inspired as a whole.
The buzz word surrounding WPS 2019 is “movement” - how do you see yourself engaging with the movement of Women Leaders in the Middle East?
I feel grateful that I’m not the only woman who is running a business, which is a huge relief as I continuously receive support from my family and from other women like me too.
What role do you think global media plays, or can play, specifically in promoting gender equality?
Media has a huge role in showing the world that us as women continuously create marvellous achievements.
Do you think that women’s positioning in business is fair? Or do we still have a way to go?
We are definitely improving when it comes to females positioning in business, but we still need more time to get to an equal standpoint.
In your own words, what did this years WPS 2019 represent?
I’m so amazed and impressed at how many successful women there are in our society and the goals that they have accomplished. What is the main thing that you’ve taken away from WPS 2019 yourself?
I’m humbled at hearing about lots of other women’s experiences and I’ve allowed myself to reflect on my own journey. What advice do you have for other women who are looking to start a business or continue to grow in their career?
I deal will lots of tenants each day, and some of them are new in starting their businesses, I noticed that some fail and some succeed, the failed ones didn’t do their business plan nor the financial studies, but the successful ones educate themselves by asking, learning, and were mentored, and had a business plan. I always advise people to plan ahead and for the ones who grow their career, of course, again, plan your goal and be INNOVATIVE and be different.
“There were lots of women in my life who inspired me, but the most important woman was my mother, she is so punctual, dedicated, caring and courageous.”
HALA AHMED SULAIMAN, is the Founder and Managing Director of Beyond Borders Consultancy which is focused on providing strategic management and communication consultancy and is also a Co-Founder of AlRawi Media WLL, an innovative and award-winning audiobook application specialised in Arabic Books.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your job role
As a sole founder I Beyond Borders Consultancy was established in September 2016 offering strategic management and Communication services. My experience mounts up to 25 years in the fields of Strategic Management and Communication and launching start-ups in both the Public and Private Sector. I’m very proud of AlRawi which is an audio-based social network, application and platform that crosses all borders with its digital capability in audiobook creation and publishing of rich and engaging Arabic content, scalable to multiple languages. This Company was co-founded with myself and two of my partners Mohamed Ebrahim and Ameera Al Qubait. AlRawi as an application currently has more than 500 books in 10 different categories that has won several regional and international recognitions, continuing to grow at all levels. Name a strong female role model that has provided you guidance to where you are today. My mother and late father are my role models. They have brought me up to be educated and independent and to believe in my abilities and to pursue my ambitions to the maximum. Role models start from home.
What do you hope will result from WPS 2019 in terms of actions and takeaway messages for the participants?
The event is an opportunity to network, develop B2B opportunities, learn from each other’s experience and take away best practices and/or how to avoid potential downfalls. There are many great stories out there. WPS should also transform into or work with a digital website and platform as a promoter for women achievements irrelevant of their nationality. The buzz word surrounding WPS 2019 is “movement” - how do you see yourself engaging with the movement of Women Leaders in the Middle East?
We do not need a “movement”. Women are appropriately empowered in Bahrain and we are
looking at advancement opportunities for women in the various sectors. What we need to do as women is to seek opportunities and personally achieve our own potential. We need to ensure that education, job opportunities and equal opportunities are sustained for all genders with a focus on women as they are also responsible for the upcoming generations. What role do you think global media plays, or can play, specifically in promoting gender equality?
I like to call it promoting “equal opportunities” rather than “gender equality”. The media needs to work with the various stakeholders to ensure a social and community-based mindset is developed. Selection or opportunities should not be based on gender – the mindset needs to develop and create a mindset whereupon when applying for an opportunity or when candidates are sought – they are selected based on competency and capability. Do you think that women’s positioning in business is fair? Or do we still have a way to go? Statistically, women in Bahrain have become more engaged in the world of business due to the vast amount of enablers and opportunities through the entrepreneurial ecosystem, e.g. Startup Bahrain, Tamkeen, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Bahrain Development Bank, Bahrain Economic Development Board and of course the Supreme Council for Women. All of these organizations are playing a role within their set of roles and responsibilities to ensure appropriate programmes are developed. However, I believe there is still a lot of work which needs to be done in the areas of financial literacy, issues related to
legal implications, investments, shareholders and partnership topics/issues.
In your own words, what did this year’s WPS 2019 represent?
I think the event is successful. It should continue for many years to come. It should become a GCC and regional brand with the aim to create networking opportunities, B2B opportunities, an educational and knowledge platform. Ideally would love to see all organisations with the purpose of serving women, be more actively engaged in this event. It is an effort by a young woman and her team in the private sector which should be commended and taken further. What is the main thing that you’ve taken away from WPS 2019 yourself?
There is still so much to learn from other people who have had different experiences. We need to continuously work on appreciating and understanding each other, our challenges and try to work together to guide each other in the various areas and sectors. WPS can be an amazing platform for mentors and mentees. In each one of us is a special story and achievement which is worth sharing and perhaps with such events, gatherings and forums we can guide each other and give a helping hand based on our areas and years of expertise.
What advice do you have for other women who are looking to start a business or continue to grow in their career?
The opportunities are out there. Go out and Grab them. Read, educate yourself and seek the information. Achieve your potential to the best of your abilities. It is ok to fail because we will learn from our mistakes and it is ok to fail knowing that you have tried your best. Continue trying and doing your best until your passion, hard work and dedication takes you to the right steps towards opportunities, growth and success.
“They have brought me up to be educated and independent and to believe in my abilities and to pursue my ambitions to the maximum.”
SAHAR QANATI, PR Director at GFH Financial group is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to business. Over a decade of experience spanning from her time in Ernst & Young Bahrain, has allowed for the diversified strength that this woman showcases on a daily basis.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your job role. I am currently a PR Director in the Corporate Communications Department at GFH Financial Group, where I handle the development and execution of the Group’s PR, events and marketing communications activities. I have more than 12 years of experience in internal and corporate communications and prior to joining GFH, I worked for six years at Arab Insurance Group (ARIG), the region’s largest insurer, where I was an assistant manager in the company’s Human Resources department, providing support on internal communications, employee engagement and events. I began my career with Ernst & Young Bahrain in 2006 and I hold a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Bahrain. Finally and most importantly I am a mother of two little angels, Sofia and Bader who are my life!
Name a strong female role model that has provided you guidance to where you are today.
People always compare me to my late grandmother, Zahraa Baljeek. She was a woman of character with a strong personality and special traits of decision making and determination. Although I was very young when she left us, I am proud to have taken some of her characteristics, which have made me who I am today. What do you hope will result from WPS 2019 in terms of actions and takeaway messages for the participants? What is the main thing that you’ve taken away from WPS 2019 yourself? In your own words, what did this year’s WPS 2019 represent?
The mentoring sessions during the summit were a great platform for students to meet women in different careers and learn a lot from their experiences, which will help them have more clarity when choosing their future careers. I honestly left the event feeling more confident, positive and looking forward to achieving more after seeing all these strong women leaders! And, I think it was the overall ambiance of the summit that made us want to be more competitive and achieve more. Being a mother and juggling motherhood and career, I was inspired by the stories of mothers who own businesses or are successful employees and learned valuable skills from listening to how they have dealt with guilt about being working mothers and wanting to shine. I must say I was impressed and I think this is what WPS represented this year… “successful mothers in the business world”.
The buzz word surrounding WPS 2019 is “movement”how do you see yourself engaging with the movement of Women Leaders in the Middle East? Do you think that women’s positioning in business is fair? Or do we still have a way to go?
We are as strong and capable as men and I believe we are given the equality we deserve in the GCC. I have to say, the Middle East is a broad term but in Bahrain specifically, with the support of the Supreme Council for Women, I believe we have reached equality! Today Bahraini women are managers, directors, heads and even board members. What role do you think global media plays, or can play, specifically in promoting gender equality?
I believe the media has an important role to play in highlighting the importance of diversity and gender equality. This can be done by more frequently showcasing the many success stories and contributions of female executives and through the featuring of female experts in key business stories and interviews more frequently.
“She was a woman of character with a strong personality and special traits of decision making and determination.”
BAHRAIN BAY embraces you with its infectious energy and always leaves you satisfied and their Friday Brunch certainly continues this mantra.
Idefy anyone to arrive at at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay and not be utterly entranced. Unequivocally the most awe inspiring, voguish structure both by day and night. It sits regally upon its own private island. Needless to say, that filling this majestic hotel with suitably chic dining experiences was a walk in the park for renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck. CUT is all about the incredible fayre produced by its kitchen and the added bonus being the outrageous views that diners are afforded across the gulf and the city.
In order to describe the décor and ambience of the restaurant I will coin an analogy from fashion. Some outfits are timeless and can be dressed up or dressed down depending upon the occasion. This can also be said for CUT. The attention-todetail, fine glassware and crockery, even for Brunch all enhance the overall dining experience. Brunch is served every Friday between 12pm and 3:30pm, but from the moment we arrived until the moment we grudgingly departed, we didn’t once feel that this resembled the usual brunch experience in any way. Perhaps this is due to the formula applied, where diners choose 10 dishes per couple and they are delivered to your table by attentive, knowledgeable hosts who kept an unobtrusive watch on our progress and didn’t bring additional dishes unless they sensed we were ready to progress. The menu is divided into five tantalising sections. ‘From the sea’ offers the most modish dishes alongside classic staples such as Ceviche, Scallop Crudo and Pan Seared Black Bass. It hardly feels necessary to point out that each dish we sampled was prepared perfectly and presented in ways that didn’t just make the dishes even more appetising, but deterred us from dismantling or demolishing such exquisite staging right away. The beauty of choosing brunch is that many of the dishes appear on the fine dining menu daily, yet in this context you’re able to easily share with your companions.
‘Grilled over Hard Wood and Charcoal’ had me salivating before my eyes could make their way down the list of options.
Organic Chicken Satay, Prime Beef Sliders served in brioche buns with house made pickles, Steak Frites with sauce bearnaise and fresh arugula are just a sample of the smoky and seared sensations. The flavours of each meat are not overpowered by the kiss of wood smoke and the quality transcends anything I have experienced before. At regular buffet style brunches, I would have been jostling with fellow diners at this station, but not here as I

was asked my preferences as to how they should be cooked and they delivered accordingly. No queuing, no delays.
‘Pasta and More’ is certainly an understatement. The Cavatappi Pasta ‘Mac & Cheese‘ was a triumph of all things ‘comfort food’ . It was indulgent, creamy and the pasta even retained some bite. The bolognaise was not simply ‘bolognaise’ but Veal Bolognaise accompanied by the best Parmesan Cheese obtainable. Every element was constructed of the best ingredients and to a standard that can only be enjoyed here at CUT.
‘Chef Wolfgang’s Favourites’ are now not only Chef Wolfgang’s favourites but mine too. The prime steak tartare was rich and almost creamy in texture with accents of sharpness and acidity in all the right places. It was a festival of flavours in the mouth. On this occasion I decided to challenge myself and order a dish which I never would consider under these circumstances. Buttermilk Fried Chicken, synonymous with down home cooking surely couldn’t be gourmet, could it? My gamble certainly paid off as this wasn’t just home cooking, it was home cooking at Wolfgang’s house! The chicken was unfeasibly moist and sweet which was offset by the sourness of the buttermilk. The coating was spicy and had an unbelievable ‘crunch’. Each dish in this section of the menu was one
which your mother or grandmother may have cooked for you and this familiar, homely feeling added to our sense of enjoyment.
It was the best-timed pause in proceedings that I have ever experienced before ‘The Sweets’ were delivered to us. We mourned all that had gone before, wishing we could repeat every single course but our spirits were lifted by the encore. Decadence in the form of salted caramel brownie with Dulce de Leche ice cream and Medjool Date Cake were complemented by the unexpected in the form of Banana Sorbet and Apple Lemongrass Mille-Feuille. It was in this area that the brilliance of the minds of those behind this menu most impacted upon us.
There is no way that I would hesitate to recommend Brunch at CUT by Wolfgang Puck unreservedly but I do feel it necessary to issue a warning with this. Visit once and you will be certain to return.

If you’re on the hunt for some flavourful Italian food, you’ll find it at PRIMAVERA. With the introduction of their Chef de Cuisine, and the recent launch of their fabulous Rustico Lunch, The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain there is no other place you should spend your Saturday afternoon.
The premise here at Primavera is that guests and diners will experience the very best Italian fayre whilst drinking up the tremendous views of the gulf from the veranda. Housed within the Ritz Carlton’s vast, lush grounds, the setting is tranquil and airy. When the first Ritz hotel opened its doors in 1906 it was heralded as one of the greatest hotels of all time. Today the brand carries this legacy. It follows that each dining venue represents the very best of the best, whether that be Thai, Traditional Arabian or Italian. Chef de Cuisine Delfino Sanfilippo Chiarello has created the Rustico lunch menu to showcase the tastes, textures and colours which typify the stunning selection at this trattoria moderno. Purity and simplicity are at its core whether that be the stylish, clean lines of the décor or the menu as a whole. The décor is a fusion of contemporary and homely. Dark and light interspersed with quirky, colourful artisanal crockery which adds an element of authenticity and personality. The mixed antipasti arrived on a breadboard, an impressive selection of Cicchetti to whet our appetites. Bruschetta and charcuterie were familiar staples but as we explored further, we discovered some delicious Mediterranean morsels. Panzerotti resemble small calzone pizzas, understated parcels which certainly packed a punch. The crunchy casing housed an unctuous, creamy mushroom filling. I was also introduced to Carrozza which is essentially a deep-fried mozzarella sandwich but this description is too simplistic. The contrast of textures and the fabulous quality of the cheese make this such a special appetiser which I may not have sampled otherwise. Alongside these were bitesize portions of Eggplant Parmigiano, Bresaola and a beautifully vibrant caprese salad. It encouraged us to graze and take time to savour each element. Pasta and Pizza typify the way in which simple ingredients can produce stunning results. The baked pasta with a combination of bechamel and zingy tomato sauce was rich and decadent. In contrast the Mushroom Tagliatelle was fresh and light. The sauce clung to the strips of al dente noodles allowing the flavour of the mushrooms to take centre stage. Pasta or ‘Primi’ courses as they are referred to in Italy aren’t meant to be filling but rather a precursor to the main event or ‘secondo’ . In addition to the quality of the pasta dishes, the hand stretched pizza dough created a wafer thin crust that highlighted skills and dedication to delivering authentic dishes just as they would be in Napoli.
“The sauce clung to the strips of al dente noodles allowing the flavour of the mushrooms to take centre stage.”
Although pizza and pasta are fabulous examples of what Italy has to offer many aren’t aware of the fabulous fish and meat dishes. The Rustico Saturday menu offers an introduction to this in the form of Braised Beef with Polenta and Red Mullet Livornese style. Livornese style sauces originate from Livorno in Tuscany and once again hinges on the quality of the simplest ingredients to allow for a truly homegrown culinary experience. Tomatoes, olive oil, capers and garlic provide a sumptuous sea in which the Red Mullet can swim. The fish was cooked to perfection with crisp skin and mouth-wateringly moist flesh.
Polenta is yet another Italian ingredient which demands appreciation. The creamy polenta provided the perfect vessel for the deep, rich braising juices from the beef. The beef, despite being extremely tender, held together perfectly and was infused with the flavours from rich stock. Molto Bene! And so to dessert, which was as indulgent as it was veritable. The Godfather of all things ‘dolce gusto’. Each spoonful left me craving the next. The
perfect symphony of sweet, creamy and chocolatey. Equally, the fruit slice topped with chilled crème anglaise and fresh fruit also served as the perfect finale to such a fine lunch.
Primavera offers an exciting and indulgent alternative to traditional weekend brunches or buffets affording fine dining quality with the variety expected of a brunch style menu. Served between 12 and 3pm, it’s ideal for couples, the whole family or indeed, more convivial gatherings. The Italian Guitarist Stefano ‘Stevie’ Arcieri adds another dimension to the dining experience. Quality, authenticity and simplicity at their very best. Rustico Lunch is an opportunity which should not be missed. Just like Grandma would have wanted it!

PORSCHE HAVE ADDED AN EVEN SPORTIER VEHICLE TO THEIR THIRD GENERATION SUV RANGE WITH THE CAYENNE COUP É
Porsche is an iconic brand that has gained an ever increasing international following and respect since its founding in 1931. They have constantly produced impressive offerings that are not only technologically superior to most other manufacturers, but are also beautiful to look at from every angle. Over the months and years, we at Ohlala have had the privilege of test driving an array of recent models, including several from the Cayenne collection. This collection began as far back as 2002 and has gone from strength-to-strength. This month, compliments of the fantastic team at Porsche Centre Bahrain, we were invited to inspect the Porsche Cayenne Coupé as well as to take it through its paces.
You may think that once you’ve seen one Cayenne, you’ve seen them all. This certainly is not the truth and we were immediately impressed by the dynamic new design of this third-generation model, complete
with sharper lines and a unique rear section. The roofline of this athletic looking vehicle has a sharper slope to it that falls away to the rear making it the sportiest-looking model in the segment. The roof spoiler accentuates this effect and is combined with a new adaptive rear spoiler that form part of the label’s new Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). This spoiler extends by 135 mm from speeds of 90 km/h upwards, increasing the contact pressure of the rear axle, whilst the PAA concurrently improves efficiency. The A-pillar and front windscreen are now flatter than previous Cayenne models, with the roof edge having been lowered by around twenty millimetres. The rear doors and fenders have also been redesigned, adding to this SUV’s powerful presence. An impressive 2.16 m2 fixed glass roof is fitted as standard, although a contoured carbon roof is also available upon request.
The interior of this mid-sized luxury SUV can be described in one word; fabulous! Sitting inside the cockpit we instantly noticed the abundance
of space on offer. This combined with the new eight-way sports seats complete with integrated headrests, ensure an unparalleled level of both comfort and support. All of the trimmings, fabrics, finishes and materials used are of premium quality and the overall design is simply stunning. In the back, the new Coupé features a rear bench that has the characteristics of two individual seats that are fitted as standard, although the familiar comfort rear seats can be fitted as an alternative at no extra cost. Once again there is plenty of head, shoulder and leg room, providing an exceptionally comfortable space for passengers. The 625-litre boot capacity makes this car practical for everyday use and this can be increased to 1,540 litres with the rear seats folded down.
As much as we enjoyed inspecting the exterior and interior of this marvellous machine, we were, as always, keen to get the vehicle on the road to see what the master designers at Porsche have managed to accomplish performance wise.
As soon as pressure was applied to the accelerator, a wide smile spread across our collective faces. The sound of the Cayenne’s sixcylinder, turbocharged engine was music to our ears as we began to surge forward along the tarmac at an exciting rate. With a three-litre displacement delivering 340 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, this sporty SUV has more power than one will ever need on public roads. With the Sport Chrono Package fitted in series production vehicles, this midsize SUV sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 243 km/h. We found the handling of the vehicle to be superb. With the PAA ensuring we stayed glued to the ground as we powered around corners and sped along the straights, we always felt in complete control of the experience. This feeling of security was hugely enhanced by an extremely efficient braking system and a multitude of standard safety features.
All too soon we were making our way back to Porsche Centre Bahrain, jabbering away at how impressed we were with every aspect of this new Cayenne Coupé. We strongly recommend anyone looking to buy a superior quality SUV to take one of these beauties out for a test drive and to experience the magic for themselves.
To arrange a test drive please contact Porsche Centre Bahrain on 17459 911. @porschecentrebahrain www.porschebahrain.com

According to various dictionaries, to have beauty means to “possess qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind.” It is a word that describes the totality of a person, appreciating many details about them. So, then, how did this once empowering and inspiring word turn into such a “taboo” concept? Why is it that the word alone is intimidating for women to think about?
I believe that it starts with how society has embraced this seemingly unrealistic perception of beauty. Now, the word beauty stands in for a woman who has Kylie Jenner’s lips, Cara Delevigne’s body, Zooey Deschanel’s eyes, and Angelina Jolie’s face—a crazily unrealistic idea.
In part, we do it to ourselves. Women put so much pressure on themselves to look a certain way based strictly off of what they see. Think about it, how often do you see an attractive girl walking past you, and you automatically are comparing yourself to her. She has nicer legs, or better hair, or is wearing nicer clothes. By constantly competing with this other girl, you are actually destroying all that makes you amazing. Or let’s say it was the opposite, you think that you’re way prettier than her, she’s inferior to you, that is still causing some major damage to not only your insecurities but her self esteem as well. If you’re constantly competing with those around you, you are putting way too much pressure on yourself to be perfect. A perfection that does not exist. Instead of judging and comparing, we should be asking ourselves what makes us feel beautiful. Is it waking up every morning and doing your hair and makeup? Then awesome, wake up and get ready because you want to feel confident and beautiful for yourself, not to impress others. Or maybe it’s listening to “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera on repeat in your car on the way to work. Then by all means sing along to it. Or maybe it’s being with a group of your friends and taking endless selfies. Always embrace what makes you feel beautiful, and do it for yourself, no one else.
MISS OHLALA PONDERS WHY IT IS HARDER THAN EVER FOR WOMEN TO FEEL BEAUTIFUL AND THE IDEOLOGY BEAUTY BEAUTY.
