This month I found myself pondering why the Internet has revolutionised the way we shop on such a large scale. Because of the numerous advantages and benefits, more and more people these days prefer buying things online over the conventional method of going into stores. Don’t get me wrong I’m still ‘Team Shop’ for the experience and aesthetic of it all, but, I do find myself recognising that convenience is the biggest perk that shoehorns me to shop online. Where else can you comfortably shop at midnight whilst laying in your pyjamas? There are no lines to wait in or cashiers to track down to help you with your purchases, and you can do your shopping in minutes. Online shops give us the opportunity to shop 24/7. Also, there is more variety. The choices online are amazing. You can find almost any brand or item you’re looking for. You can get in on the latest international trends without spending money on airfare. A far greater selection of colours and sizes than you will find locally are at your disposal. Plus, the stock

is much more plentiful, so you’ll always be able to find your size and colour. Some online shops even accept orders for out-of-stock items and ship when they come in - hurrah! Sending gifts to relatives and friends is easy, no matter where they are. All the packaging and shipping is done for you. Often, they’ll even gift wrap it for you! Now, there is no need to make distance an excuse for not sending a gift on occasions... The older I’m getting the more I’m finding that I’m sounding just like my mother. Now, on that rather bewildering note, I’m off to enjoy my Pumpkin Spiced Latte which has finally (and thankfully) made its inaugural return to The Middle East.

A fusion of modern design and evocative elegance distinguishes the bold, eclectic spirit of the new Gucci Eyewear collection, which spans across different decades and inspirations to define the real sense of individuality and freedom of expression. The Pre Fall Styles introduce polished textures and precious embellishments that reimagine the retro flair with intricate craft, either rendered through glazed striped motifs, hand polished surfaces or jeweled decorations of crystals and studs. Salvatore Ferragamo launches their Autumn/Winter 2019 collection

Family, the cultural continuity between generations, and power – all have been central to the spirit of Salvatore Ferragamo. It is a quiet power that distinguishes the house, a power Paul Andrew and Guillaume Meilland explore for Autumn/Winter 2019 and figure into the zeitgeist as an antidote to its pervasive unrest. The revelation comes in a kaleidoscopic display of identity and all its nuance: impossible to characterise in one attitude or gesture, their women refuse easy definitions and instinctively embrace a politics of togetherness.

FLOWERY ALLURE.

Giambattista Valli created a feisty collection for H&M that reads like an eclectic recap of his style. He calls it an “abecedario”, apropos, which in Italian means a dictionary. The collection: a selection of timeless pieces meant to be mixed and matched according to personal style; items designed to last and be cherished for a long time. It’s all about style more than fashion. Giambattista Valli, in fact, believes that one half of the work is done in the atelier, while the rest is up to the clients and their personalities. Each one different, each one unique.

Dresses take center stage, drawing a garden of fashionable pieces. Long gowns hug the bust and flow below the waist, movement highlighted by lace edging, beautiful prints, a widening of tiers on a tulle gown. A dramatic red dress opens up in giant ruffles at the shoulders like the wings of an angel. Micro floral prints and a fluttering of ruffles give long sleeved or sleeveless dresses a rococo dash of French politeness, which carries on in the demure short dresses. Legs for miles characterize the racier section of the collection, made of womanly short dresses that sculpt the body, bare shoulders and swarm in delicate motifs. A flowery tutu with an asymmetric ruffle is as quintessentially Valli as a black, curvaceous bustier dress with flaps. Blouses and little cardigans ooze the same feminine spirit, conveyed through micro ruffles and flower embroideries.

L’ALLURE DE LA RUE.

In order to cater the Valli girls of every generation, Giambattista Valli created a series street-inflected pieces that nonetheless retain his unique sense of femininity and embellishment. A black hoodie swarms with flower motifs, while a print of lips runs all over the t-shirt. Decorative embroideries give preciousness to the simple sweatshirt. A logo on the chest is straightforward, in a fresh way.

ACCESSORIES.

The Giambattista Valli x H&M collection encompasses a wide range of jewelry and accessories to freely play with. The string of pearls is the key item: modeled on the style Giambattista himself wears; it features a mouth pendant that is molded on the designer’s own lips. Then there is GBV rings and earrings, sword earrings, VALLI GIRL earrings, Lolita sunglasses. High heel sandals and booties share the stage with flat slippers. Shoulder bags are small and demure, adding posture. Animal print scarves, socks and decorative stockings complete the image. The elements to play with are feisty and varied. The interpretation is up to all the aspiring Valli Girls.

For the newest campaign, Valerie Messika has chosen to cast three contemporary icons that break the codes of Parisian jewellery. “I wanted to create a trio of girls, a gang that would represent women in their diversity and each of whom, whatever their age, would embody a type of beauty,’’ says Valerie Messika about the three new Messika faces.

THE COLLECTION

Bahrain’s independent jewellery designer, Azza Al Hujairi, participated at the Metal & Smith Fall Edit for the first time. Bahraini Jewellery designer Azza Al Hujairi showcased her designs at the prestigious Metal & Smith Show in New York City. The Fine Jewellery brand, Azza, has built a reputation in the Middle East for having unique and fashion-forward pieces that reflect the designer’s inspiration from history and mythology connected to Bahrain. The designer is mostly popular for introducing pearls into everyday wear as contemporary pieces of jewellery, making them coveted by millennials, gift shoppers, and the international market. After changing into my fluffy robe and slippers I laid down on the heated treatment bed as I was asked as to whether or not I wanted the curtains to be closed. I was advised after the treatment that my skin was dehydrated as it quite literally drank up this solution, whereas other skin types would have had a steamed towel to remove the excess.

Before and after applying Nordic Detox Mask onto our skin – their rich cocktail of antioxidants that encourage healthy cell turnover and provides powerful protection from free radicals - she went on with a lymphatic face drainage, massaging firmly and deeply our face with different serums, allowing them to penetrate into deeper layers and clean our face from toxins. The add-on eye treatment further amplified the luxury of it all. She opted for an oil-free moisturiser as per our skin concerns and topped it with an SPF 30 mineral non-tinted moisturiser. We were impressed with the products that we couldn’t help but leave with both the cleanser and toner to elongate the fabulous results. We much appreciated the massage on our decolletage that really helped to relax and heighten the experience. I think I fell asleep, which is a first for me, but I can officially say that I received a bonus of some added (and much needed!) beauty sleep.

Nothingquite prepares you for your first time in the Maldives. No matter how many times we had Googled Vakkaru, sinking our feet into the resort’s sandy shores, hugged by clear blue waters, was a sight (and feeling) that far exceeded all of our expectations. The result is the creation of amazing spaces for guests to connect with each other and the environment around them. We can attest to this being 100 percent effective!

The outdoor rain shower is an absolute highlight, made for those Snapchat stories to garner all the FOMO from your followers. There’s a separate living room which is SO comfy for afternoon naps and quiet reads whilst the 32m2 private pool and private beachfront terrace make outdoor living a necessity here. You accommodation faces the azure waters of the lagoon and at every turn you’ll find that, visually, Vakkaru Maldives is EVERYTHING it promises to be. Don’t forget to make the most of all the different areas within your private quarters to top up the tan and swim to your heart’s content.

The standouts of this suite were in the little details. It is, hands down, one of the best gourmet mini bars of any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. To top this off, you get all your standard amenities like cosy slippers and bathrobes, and sustainable luxury bathroom amenities.

Like in all the rooms, Vakkaru goes the extra mile to provide guests with sunbeds and yoga mats, a beach bag and flip flops, bicycles and even butler service. What more could you ask for?

Nubiyan Twist

Since its inception in 2017, the island’s exciting touristic festival has attracted more than 8000 international and regional visitors and has hosted over 30 international and local artists. ndigo Restaurant and Bar at The Merchant House is a fabulous spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a beautiful garden terrace that one cannot help but adore. Executive Chef Rob Shipman is a renowned artisan in the kitchen which allows every visit here to be one where you’re left wholeheartedly satisfied. I’d never had the privilege of indulging in breakfast there, so, I took this as the perfect opportunity to rabble my girlfriends together and head towards The Merchant House. An added bonus of visiting here is that you can use their handy valet service, so you aren’t wasting time looking for a parking spot. Girls just want to have fun (and food) after all.

Chef Rob spent months developing this menu of over twenty dishes, and it’s every bit the decadent and rich items that you’d come to expect of him. This is a restaurant that continues to push the envelope in Bahrain, and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying one of their dinners, you’d know what I mean. There are items on this menu that don’t exist elsewhere in town. So if you’re looking for a “treat yourself” breakfast or a nice place to take your significant-other to start your weekend, I would recommend this. There are the familiar items you’d expect for breakfast, albeit executed very well with premium ingredients. Smoked Salmon with crushed avocado on sourdough bread had us all Instagram Ready as it was presented beautifully on a slate slab, but, it wasn’t long before we were making the most out of the sharing concept that’s welcomed here at Indigo. Just as well really, as the French Toast served with mixed berries and vanilla cream made its way to our table I thought there was going to be a fight as to who would have the first bite. I volunteered myself (as I’m kind like that), and it was masterful in every sense of the word. This brioche bread soaked in egg, vanilla and cinnamon had my tastebuds dancing for joy. The festivities continued as I indulged in the syrup that had been infused with coffee syrup, ground from the beans themselves in a pestle and mortar. Now, here’s a little nugget of knowledge for you… French Toast is translated into ‘Pain Perdu’ which means ‘lost bread’, and it’s rather ironic that after trying this that you’d find yourself certainly lost without this beauty besieging your options for breakfast on a morning in Bahrain.

business. Of course, you also have classic Benedict’s and omelettes to appease your morning hunger pangs as well. The richness of hollandaise, and the creaminess of the egg just makes me very very happy when it comes to their Eggs Royale. Now, I can’t mention happiness without spotlighting The Blueberry Pancakes which are the lightest, tastiest ones I’ve ever had and are served with a decadent drizzle of blueberry syrup for extra bonus points. It’s some seriously intense stuff that is every bit as delicious as it is heart-stopping. Me? I love it. This must be what dreams are actually made of.

As you scroll down the menu items get a little bit more intense - in a good way, of course. How about the Pytti Panna? It’s a dish consisting of sautéed sausages, bacon, potatoes and vegetables topped with sunny side up eggs… which if you’re unfamiliar, is pretty much the best melt-in-your-mouth

dish you can put in your mouth. Trust me, I am a carnivorous enthusiast. Not enough food? How about the grilled Halloumi with smoked chipotle chilli jam, cherry tomatoes and date syrup? It’s a worthwhile visit when you want to have a nice start to your day or indeed to take someone out. I would recommend ordering three or four of the dishes and sharing them with your dining companion(s).

Now, don’t be surprised to see me hanging out there crying tears of joy into my coffee (served with delicious homemade biscotti) at every exquisite dish that is served. Trust me, it is THAT amazing. Served from 06:30 to 10:30am and 11am on weekends makes sure that you have the perfect excuse not to stay at home. What’s better than breakfast in bed? Breakfast at Indigo at The Merchant House.

BMW HAVE REDEFINED LUXURY WITH THE ALL-NEW BMW X7

When searching for a quality motor vehicle that offers comfort and performance along with an aesthetically pleasing appearance, one cannot go far wrong with a BMW. When we at Ohlala heard about the all-new BMW X7 entering the Kingdom, we could not wait to organise a test drive. Thanks to the amazing team at Euro Motors, we soon found ourselves en route to turn this desire into a reality. Being the first of its kind, the all-new BMW X7 xDrive50i is unique in its design. This is a large vehicle; however, its imposing presence is balanced out by its classy appearance. The prominent front end of the vehicle demands attention with its bold lines whilst the largest ever kidney grille gives it a distinguished feel. The shapely front LED lights are fitted as standard. Side-on, the high ground clearance of the vehicle is obvious and combined with the 22-inch, lightalloy wheels, gives the BMW X7 a solid looking stance. The large windows and long roofline accentuate the size of this SUV whilst the beautifully designed fender vents add interest to the vehicle’s flanks. The rear end clearly shows the sizeable dimensions of the BMW X7, which the designers have broken up with horizontal lines. Stylish features including the wrap around tails lamps, lower rear bumper and chrome tipped exhausts all complement the tail end of the car.

The optional smart key for the BMW X7 is very novel indeed. It allows one to not only do the basics such as locking, unlocking and opening of the boot, but also provides information on the car’s current status and allows one to alter various internal car settings from some distance away. Upon opening the doors of the vehicle, it was plain to see that BMW have successfully created their most luxurious SUV to date, one that is set to rival the likes of Range Rover. Along with this new standard of extravagance, this is also the brand’s very first true 7-seater SUV. Starting in the cabin area, we absolutely adored the Ivory White / Night Blue colour combo, along with the soft leather seating and beefy blue steering wheel. Glass effects on the start/stop button, shift lever and the volume knob accentuate the exclusive feel of this top-of-the-line SUV. The superb build quality of the entire cabin along with the use of highest-end materials and intricate finishings, left us hard pressed to think of any previous internal vehicle inspection, worthy of comparison to this level of opulence.

The second row of seating offers a huge amount of space and comfortably seats three large adults. BMW have also ensured that parents will have an easy time fitting baby car seats in this row. The third row of seats offer ample room and all seating throughout the vehicle is heated. Four-zone climate control is fitted as standard along with a three-section panoramic glass roof and ambient lighting. The luggage compartment is a generous size; however, it is made all the more so at the push of a button located in the boot, that lowers both back rows of seating. The push of another button returns the seats to an upright position.

The top of the dash houses a huge touchscreen that allows access to the latest version of iDrive. This user-friendly version displays hugely impressive graphics and resolution. The fully digital instrument cluster and the Control Display situated in front of the driver both feature a 12.3-inch screen. This system is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and ensures one has a positive, interactive experience. More than impressed with the aesthetics and functionality of the vehicle, we turned our attention to the all-important performance. The BMW X7 M50i is powered by a V8, 4.4 twin-turbo charged engine that produces 462 hp and 650 Nm of torque. This translates to a vehicle capable of surging from 0-100 km/h in around 5.3 seconds. Despite its large size, the BMW X7 carries itself with poise and grace offering stability, acceleration, breaking and handling of the highest standard. We could not believe how responsive this vehicle was and truly enjoyed every second of the ride. Along with the fantastic driving performance, BMW X7 features a full range of state-of-the-art driver assistance systems, especially designed to keep you in full control and your family safe, throughout the experience.

The verdict? BMW have raised the bar in the luxury SUV segment to a height that most brands will never reach.

This year, conversations around sustainability in the beauty industry boomed, while commitments to greater diversity and inclusion were cemented.

Even if you don’t care a lick about saving money, frugality comes with benefits that extend beyond your pocketbook and personal life. The truth is, frugality doesn’t just benefit “us;” it can benefit the planet we live on too. By making fewer purchases and consuming less, we can positively impact the environment in a number of ways and contribute to a wider sustainable community. We love fashion. We really do.
