We are together once again in Evteks, the world's second largest home textile exhibition which is one of the top destinations for new business ties in the industry. Being a fast growing exhibition and hosting global home textile player, Evteks is of critical importance for especially European brands. As Western companies lost large portions of their domestic markets due to the crisis over the last years, now they regard Turkey as an exit door for recovering.
EDITOR The companies involve closely Turkish market which consumption increase rapidly in contrast to Europe. They also try to benefit from Evteks for making contact with other buyers from neighboring countries in the region.
Evteks gains value as Turkey is on rising trajectory in terms of design, innovation and quality and so it is a significant event for companies in crisis that have to canalize their sales from domestic market to abroad. We know that there are many companies that stay out; even they wanted to participate in the exhibition. We hope that fair organization takes advantages of the existing conjuncture and opportunities because we do all know that Evteks has a great potential and will have more strong position thanks to more effective global promotion. With exhibitor and visitor numbers, Evteks shows the level Turkish home textile reached, as it is followed with a great interest by both domestic and foreign buyers

Evteks has been offering big opportunities also for Turkish companies that aim to be a global player in the industry. Companies which invest on R&D, produce unique pattern and designs, can meet with leading buyers in an event in their own country. I believe coming years will be much better than previous years. We are optimistic, hopeful and happy. I wish you successful exhibition… İlhan IŞIK

Mr. Ali Türkün, General Manager of Türteks Textile, answered questions of Fair World Home Textile Magazine and shared with us his views about the fair organizations. Q - What do you say about Heimtextil Frankfurt, if you compare it to Evteks? A.T. - Both of them are significant for Turkish industry. Evteks now proved itself to the whole world. The fact that foreign exhibitors as well as domestic companies want to exhibit and market their products in Evteks, shows that it is a real and established international event. The most features of Evteks is that you can all people there from East or West and North or South and all of them can get what they want. It is a clear indication that momentum of Evteks is steadily increasing. But if we compare it with Heimtextil, first, Heimtextil's experience on fair organization brings it to forefront as keystone of the European fair organization. Is is regarded as an event that should be certainly followed, by not only exhibitors but also buyers. And it maintains to keep its value up because probably it is the biggest international trade fair for home and contract textiles. Although there is a decline in fair organizations in recent years, the fact that Heixtextil has again rise in terms of visitor number this years, means that Europe and America started to overcome the crisis.

Q - What do you think of contribution of exhibitions on Turkish economy and your trade volume? A.T. - Surely fairs contributed highly to Turkish economy and they were so helpful in terms of Turkey's promotion. Europe who see us as imitator and copier in the past, now noticed Turkey's rising quality and creativity. As a result of this situation, many Turkish companies found mutually a chance of safe working as their trade volume increases. Now both sides know very well each other and understand what they want. So it enhances gradually work load and quality.
“Europe who see us as imitator and copier in the past, now noticed Turkey's rising quality and creativity.” Q - How do you evaluate general situation of the sector? A.T. - When we evaluate it as sectoral, Europe's production background and its current situation bring that question to our mind: Will this production problem's turn to come to us tomorrow or day after tomorrow? But we think that both our associations and government follow closely this issue. It is clear that states which don't make production face big challenges. So if every company adopts itself to new conditions, we can continue to be there.
Q - How will 2014 be for you, could you make an evaluation about it? A.T. - 2014 showed quickly us it will be hard. It will be economic and political mobility in domestic markets. As a result of it, I hope it doesn't hurt our country and manufacturers. I think those who export, won't affected so much as long as global markets keep on their rising.

Q – What do you think about effects of Europe’s dire straits on textile sector? Of course it is inconsistency to say that we aren’t affected by the crisis. But every crisis is also an opportunity and now we, home textile producers, are the most important producers of the world. We, as Akarca Textile, opted to find new markets, new customers in order to tackle with the crisis and it made us as company more dynamic and strong.

Q
Q– Contrary to Europe’s shrinking economy, what should Turkey do to come out of the crisis stronger?
As I said, the world is really big and now Turkish home textile producers meet very little of the world’s home textile requirements. Also there are 2023 targets declared by the government. Concordantly we, home textile industrialists have a lot of goods to sell to the world. For me the solution is possible only by exporting high value added products…
Q – You moved to your new building, what are your new investment plans? We are very happy with the new building which has a 10,000 square meters of indoor area with production floors, office spaces that we planned ourselves all the way. As we move here, there were some investments in terms of both machinery and capacity increase and renewal. We plan to make investments for finish, touching and printing in the same building for the near future.

VİNO KADİFE
Mr. Latif Sarnık, Vino Kadife General Manager, answered Fair World Home Textile Magazine's questions. Q - What will you say about Heimtextil Frankfurt, when compared to Evteks? Heimtextil Frankfurt is undoubtedly the largest textile fair, area size as square meters, infrastructure, accessibility, planned physical structure, accommodation facilities, integrated rail system throughout the city and the Frankfurt Airport, the busiest airport in Germany made Heimtextil a brand. Heimtextil is the biggest presentation field for the world's leading export oriented companies. The exhibitions are significant in terms of both country promotion and product promotion. After China, Turkey is the second largest exhibitor country that it shows strength of Turkish home textile. However, although Evteks is the smaller Heimtextil in terms of size draws much more visitor. Evteks visitors are based on more placing orders than Heimtextil. So it makes manufacturers happy. We, manufacturers, desire that Evteks will be number one of the world with area size, contemporary architecture, substructure and transportation ahead of Heimtextil.

Latif SARNIK
Q - Could you brief us about contribution of exhibitions to Turkish economy and your trade volume? It is true that exhibitions contribute economies. Exhibitions play a key role in opening up companies to the world and meeting them with various foreign buyers. This year Evteks expects about 150.000 visitors. As visitors hold meetings with companies and placing orders, spending for transportation, accommodation, food and private expending, they get currency gain to country. Fairs should encourage companies for R&D studies and innovation. It will make them more innovative, competitive and dynamic. So fairs play a great role in promotion of countries. We, as VİNO, believe to represent strongly in fairs thanks to our R&D works and innovative designs.

Sunday AKYAR
Q - What do you think of the industry's general situation? Turkish home textile provided to differ from Far East companies through product quality, reliability and steady service. But if you ask, is it in what it deserves, of course not. The fact that the industry makes production with world’s most expensive energy weakens its competitive feature. Energy is a problem that Turkey should solve because the main problem with the current account deficit is lack of domestic energy resources. Also Turkish home textile manufacturers should be interested with smart textiles. It means to produce technical and functional textile. Turkey get only a share of 1 billion from smart textile market of $70 billions. Companies which dominate global markets in smart textile are supported by government promotions.
Ercan HACIARABACI
If the state makes using smart textile in certain area obligatory, cash value of our production and export will increase on the basis of kilo. Q – How will 2014 be for home textile industry, could you assess briefly it? What happened in our country and in the world affects closely economy, 2014 will be an election year for Turkey. We had local election; we all witnessed how the currency follow a fluctuating course before the election.
Latif SARNIK
Turbulence in currency and politics affected the economy, so effect of the fluctuating has been stagnation in the industry in the first quarter of the year. With a fall in the exchange rate after the election, there has been a stir in the economy. I hope that presidential election in August won’t affect negatively the economy. I predict a growth of 4 percent in 2014. Actually it’s not enough; the growth should be over 5 percent. We, as VİNO family, continue cau-
tious and steady growth. We will present our new products to customers in Evteks, Hometex, Heimtextil and Shangai.

Mr. Engin Mercan, owner of M. Emin Textile answered questions of Fair World Home Textile Magazine for Evteks issue. Q - What will you say about Heimtextil Frankfurt, when compared to Evteks? Evteks is an exhibition organized by Turkey, there is no competition here. Everybody should support it. Heimtextil has its own way of doing things; Evteks has its own way. But everybody has to support it. Q - Which one of them are at the forefront in international platform? Heimtextil stands out in terms of organization but Evteks comes to the forefront in terms of business.
Mr. Engin Mercan
Q - Could you brief us about contribution of exhibitions to business economy? I recommend everyone participate in fairs regardless it is small, medium or large scaled. Q - What do you think of the industry's general situation?
Q – How will 2014 be for home textile industry, could you assess briefly it? 2014 will become more risky and thorny but it will be better for all companies that attach great importance to R&D, quality and collections, that strive to improve and develop its own collections and company like its own child. But those who regard thing called R&D (AR-GE in Turkish) as ARakla-GEtir (Pilfer-Bring in English), of course, will have hard times. Q - What will we see this year's Evteks in the sense of products? Nothing, we will see largely copied things... Meanwhile Our company will launch a new collection in Evteks which has have a lot of techniques, pattern and quality. Its sales organisation in domestic market will be with Mr. Mete Bronz, Metebronz Furniture, who a household name around the industry.

As I expressed in previous interview, let everyone give weight to R&D operations. Let everyone produce new things, good things. Let them do better than manufacturers in Europe
Evteks is an exhibition organized by Turkey, there is no competition here. Everybody should support it. Heimtextil has its own way of doing things; Evteks has its own way. But everybody has to support it.
M.EMİN TEKSTİL INTERVIEW Q - Do we have chance to see new things? We will see very few new things. Why so, because in home textile industry, it was the flock that are produced in the best way after the paint ball. But after the flock, we have brought nothing. The newest thing is flock after chenille and the paint ball. Digital printing has been already using after the flock. Only digital printing is developed. It is what everyone can do. It's so widespread in the industry because it needs a small investment. Q - Were there imported products in Evteks last year? Will they be this year, if it will; will we see it more or not? It will be almost same rate. The government tries to decrease imported goods but these products enter already to the country by any means. The fact that they get into the market put prices up.
In the past, you could bargain, you could haggle with buyer saving raw materials because they couldn't control it but now people have control mechanism. So you can't bring down the price of goods you sell by trimming material of goods. You are caught instantly. Now troubles are derived from it, because now the chance of being caught is close to 100 percent. So you have to manufacture what cost sheet can be hardly calculated so that they can't compete with you, calculate your profit. When he can't check it out, you can bargain with you to a certain extent. Moreover you have a unique product in the global markets, there is left no chance of bargain. Until when? It's till they copy what you produced. So you do what you can do, you sell what you can sell during that time. After that, direct bargain starts again. Now you can't say "I made a product and I'll sell it for five years". It's over. There is no such a possibility even in Far East which is a production region thus far, but now it's a consumption region. In short, different strokes for different folks. As a company, you have to set a course, have to set a trend.
Q - Will demand to imported products increase or reduce? In the past, someone who invents anything could sell or continue to produce it for long years. But now thing called trend is changing so rapidly that it was once a year, even it was once a decade. Now it is semi-annually. Today it's a trend, you are printing or weaving it yesterday and are selling it and it's over. There is always innovation, people want constantly new things. When people perpetually produce new thing, you can't follow them. So if you are so fast, you fall behind. In that time, prices and profits come down. Meanwhile there is production in factory; profit is not enough for you, that's so important. It means that if you have a business you can make production 7/24 in the factory then you can keep profit at scale what you want to be, because it's a regular business in that time. But when it's with ups and downs, when production slows down, you immediately make lose because profit is so low, but costs are same. So you have to carry out R&D studies, have to do good things, have to do contently different things that are unusual for consumer or customer, so they can't calculate cost sheets, including end consumer. You have to make production considering it because there are devices that can find cost sheets. There was no any device before. There are grammage meter on customer's desk in Middle East. Now people can cost grammage out, in the past there was no such a thing. So you could sell your products with price what you wanted, even the world's the largest buyer do the business like this. ®

Mr. Bülent Endez, owner of the Pijon Textile answered questions of Fair World Home Textile Magazine for Evteks issue. Q - What will you say about Evteks and Heimtextil Frankfurt in terms of visitors? First I would like to say that both events are the largest exhibitions in home textile industry. They attract many visitors from all around the world. Now there are people from all over the world who are waiting the exhibitions in the increasingly globalized industry. If we need to say something about Evteks, it is a proud event. Visitors find a gradually developing and well-arranged exhibition every year.
Levent ENDEZ Bülent ENDEZ
Q - when we compare them to each other, which one is in the forefront, can you tell us briefly? Both of them are on par with each other. Turkish and European home textile industries shares concurrently same seasons. As you see, knowledge isn’t limited with just one person or a company, now everyone knows and learns something. Both of the exhibitions are in the forefront. Now productions are so familiar and similarities on products have been increasing day by day. Of course, two fairs are successful. As long as exhibitors and visitors are pleased with them, they will achieve to be in the forefront. It is disputable which one is better but as long as everyone do quality business that represent very well their companies, exhibitions will have better.

Sure we have some deficiencies but I believe that we’ll make up them as soon as possible. First of all, I think that there is lack of promotion. Evteks can’t make enough promotion. That is why it has fewer visitors than Heimtextil. The only way to enhance it is promotion. TV, magazines, press conferences... Even customer satisfaction is a kind of ad. I believe that Evteks increase number of visitors this year and next year.

I believe that Evteks increase number of visitors this year and next year.
Q - Do you have any special preparation? We don’t have any special work. We already try to keep product quality and innovative studies at the highest level. I think that our products shape the market. We are a company which makes production by following closely what consumer and the industry need. So we will attend Evteks with the current product range. Q - You moved to your new facility, which applications do you make related to roller blind there? In new facility, we decided to gather all process of production under a single roof. After yarn turn into product in weaving loom, it needs finish process, so we included a random-access machine to our facility. As you know, the most meritorious part of roller blind and zebra products is finish process, so we do it in our own facility. ®

"Dilara Güneş, Budget Manager of Güneş Leather Marketing Inc. Ltd. Corp, answered questions of Fair World Home Textile Magazine for Evteks volume." Q - First, could you introduce yourself to our readers? I'm Dilara Güneş, I'm working for my family business for two years. Ever since my childhood, I have been in textile industry and I delight in doing this business because the home textile is a industry that is dynamic and very open to new ideas. As a young businesswoman in the industry, it is so exciting for me to follow innovations, then adapt and offer them to market you operate and get positive feedbacks.
Dilara Güneş Budget Manager
Q - As a experienced businesswoman in the textile, what do you think of the future? Q - What is the basic rule for success in the business? In general terms, the basic rule is to know what you want, focus on goal and set the right strategy on the path to that goal. It's the same for the textile industry. Of course it is an industry that is affected by crisis ups and downs, so it is significant to provide against this kind of situation, to constitute a crisis management plan and improve your strategy in order to succeed in the business.

As you mentioned, Bursa is Turkey's home textile locomotive. If you look back centuries, the textile industry's history goes back nearly 1,500 years. In the period of Ottoman Empire, Bursa was the center of weaving. First of all, I would like to say that to be in the textile industry in this kind of city gives me big excitement. If we assess Turkey's future in the textile industry, Turkey is a favorite country for Europe in recent years. We have some rivals in Far East, but especially leading European buyers prefer Turkey to manufacturers in Far East in terms of quality, opportunities, creativity and service possibilities because they can't find them in Far East.

INTERVIEW
Well-known brands in clothing and home textile are manufactured in Turkey. The country's textile industry structure, its technical equipments, qualified human power and potential are at an higher level than other countries, but we of course have some shortcomings. Design is a vital for the industry's future. As that is in product, service and other all subjects; the fact that we cooperate with design world and follow new trends on design will make our success easier. Q - What does a company need for a stable future? First of all, it is so important to institutionalize because to be institutional brings with stability, should bring with it. Setting targets in the short, middle and long terms, planning, producing projects, analyzing and following rightly the industrial market, doing R&D investments, keeping up with the technology are important steps in this sense.
b But now even women have at least as strong opportunities as men in recent years. I believe that now women and men work in same conditions. Surveys show women's dominance increase rapidly in the business world.
b
Q - How is to be woman in a male dominated business world? Working and making money of woman is the first step of freedom and it's crucial. I started to work for my family business thinking like that. A woman's chance of building a career is slimmer than men in our community. But now even women have at least as strong opportunities as men in recent years. I believe that now women and men work in same conditions. Surveys show women's dominance increase rapidly in the business world.

INTERVIEW
BURTEKS
Mr. Ahmet Yediler, owner of Burteks told about general situation of the sector for Fair World Home Textile Magazine's Evteks issue.
Costs, hence prices of dye finishing applications in Turkey are higher than the world's textile finishing prices because of high cost of energy, petroleum chemicals and dye. So domestic fabric manufacturers can't compete with imported products in global market sales, because any protective measure isn't taken by the government. Therefore it isn't reached desired levels in quality.
Mr.Ahmet Yediler
We, as Burteks, have come a long way about it. We achieved desired touching and visual quality in upholstery fabric finishing in terms of both price and quality. We ensured our customers' satisfaction
As a result of cooperation with our partner, fabrics which are produced by customers and dyed, finishing by us will come onto the market in the next days to get quality products that will block imported fabrics which became monopoly in Turkey in the recent years. Our efforts have been reducing foreign dependency and offering attractive prices as well as best quality.
