AUGUST-OCTOBER 2020

Amidst the turmoil in our world today, it would come as no surprise that people are experiencing some degree of fear and anxiety. But the people of God can speak into the culture a message of hope. There is a loving God who is in control of all things. There will come a day when He will reconcile all things to Himself and sin and death will be defeated forever. Believers can experience for themselves and share with others the good news of the hope and security that is found in Christ. Faith Radio is here to help. We want to be a source of gospel encouragement to our listeners. We carefully choose messages and music that point people to Christ. We also pray for you, so let us know how we can help you in your walk of faith. As we keep focused on Christ, we can put faith over fear.

FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

We have heard from many of our listeners over the last few months who have shared how Faith Radio has helped them fight their fears. One listener wrote, “Faith Radio, you are such a comfort in times of distress.” God is using our ministry to help people grow in their faith. One listener said, “This station has been a blessing to my soul, especially during this season with COVID-19. Listening to the music and different programs has helped me refocus my mind.” A listener from Montgomery shared, “I have struggled with anxiety for years. Listening to your ministry helps me remember to put on the armor of God. The messages I hear daily help strengthen my faith muscles.” God is at work in our community. He is using this ministry to encourage us to have faith over fear.

The National Day of Prayer was different this year because of social distancing, but the participation in praying for our country was stronger than ever. Since communities couldn’t gather, Faith Radio led the way by airing four different prayer segments throughout the day, and our listeners testified they were greatly blessed to participate and hear from pastors in their community.

Our “Prayer Time for Pastors” gathered via web-based video conferencing as we prayed for each other and our communities. Pastor Rick Warren has shared on Faith Radio, “Pastors are the most underestimated change agents in any city. Their collective influence on residents each week is staggering.” We are thankful for the many opportunities we have to be a source of encouragement to pastors! During these days we have been promoting “FAITH OVER FEAR,” and so many of our listeners have affirmed the great peace and comfort that we have provided from God’s Word. One of our faithful donors has provided for us to give away a dozen of these shirts. If you would like one, contact Billy Irvin at (334) 207-3598. We have limited numbers in sizes M, L, XL, and 2XL to bless you to share “Faith Over Fear.”

Our staff is serving our listeners and our community in many extraordinary ways. We have been very intentional in sharing God’s Word and helping point others to Christ in our crisis. We have been sharing the many verses in the Bible that encourage us to lean upon the Lord, not our own fear or understanding. Additionally, we have created special website pages to provide extra resources for growing your faith during a time when our nation is riveted by fear. 6

FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

As our country was hit by the virus pandemic, listeners called upon us to encourage others to pray for our nation and light up their cross as a reminder of God’s hope! We were blessed to have some extra crosses to give away, and these have allowed listeners to shine in their communities with the reminder of God’s faithfulness and hope. Not only have we been sharing the hope of Jesus Christ over the airwaves, but Billy Irvin was honored to represent Faith Radio as part of the delegation launching the “Ribbons of Hope” campaign on the steps of the Alabama State Capitol. Billy joined a group of area pastors who prayed for our health care workers and government leaders in Alabama. We celebrated with our ministry partner in Haiti, 4VEH. For 70 years, 4VEH has broadcasted God’s Word in their native language. Faith Radio partnered with them over 10 years ago to provide our broadcast in Haiti for those who want to hear the English language. We have heard many stories over the years of people who tuned in to learn English, but learned something far more important - how to have a saving eternal relationship with Jesus Christ. Haven’t we all faced hardships this year that have brought about feelings of worry, anxiety, and fear? Whether related to our health, our finances, or our family, fear is a powerful emotion that can paralyze us and cause us to lose our joy. At Faith Radio, we want to help you find victory over the fears in your life. To overcome fear, we need to know what it is and how to fight it. Several of our featured speakers on Faith Radio have recently addressed the subject and provided biblical clarity to help us overcome the grip of fear. 8

Tony Evans said that our worries have the capability to own us, and facing the unknowns and crises in our lives can overwhelm us. It can draw us from legitimate concern to illegitimate worry. Evans encouraged listeners to overcome worry by growing closer to Jesus Christ. Drawing near to Jesus in worship through His Word is a powerful antidote to worry. It helps us to trust Jesus even when the darkness surrounds us. Greg Laurie said that we need to learn to replace our thoughts of FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

anxiety, worry, and panic with Godly thoughts. One of the best ways to do this is through regularly reading and saturating our minds with His Word. Consistently setting our minds on the things of God will train our mind to think biblically about our problems and the world around us. It will cause us to have a proper perspective and be reminded of God’s sovereignty and goodness. It will grow our faith and help us to continually believe His promises. It will help us trade our worry for worship. Charles Stanley, on his In Touch broadcast, shared the familiar passage in Matthew 14 when Peter walks on water. He said that each day Jesus invites us to join Him on the waters of faith, but too often we allow our doubts, fears, and anxieties to turn our eyes away from Him. When we keep our focus on Christ, the worries and anxieties will melt away. We can overcome the fears in our life when we seek first the Kingdom of God. Each of these pastors shared common themes around how to overcome fear. They can be summarized as building your faith by staying focused on Christ through consistent worship and the Word. At Faith Radio, we have resources available to help you implement this pastoral prescription! Tuning into our daily teaching ministries and worship music will nurture your soul and help keep you focused on Christ. And when you focus on Jesus, your anxieties and fears will diminish. You will be able to put faith over fear.

TONY EVANS www.tonyevans.org The Alternative, heard on Faith Radio Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m.

GREG LAURIE www.harvest.org A New Beginning, heard on Faith Radio Monday through Friday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

CHARLES STANLEY www.intouch.org In Touch, heard Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m.

When fear strikes, let your faith break that stranglehold. God made a promise when He said in Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear. I am with you.” His promises don’t change. He holds us in His hands and will never leave us or forsake us. FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN APOLOGIST RAVI ZACHARIAS PASSES AWAY FAITH RADIO PROGRAMMERS PAY TRIBUTE Faith Radio programmer Ravi Zacharias, who was heard on Just Thinking weekday afternoons at 12:25, as well as Let My People Think Saturday nights at 7:30, passed away on May 19, 2020, at the age of 74. Zacharias announced earlier this year that doctors found a malignant tumor while performing back surgery. On May 8, he announced that his cancer was deemed untreatable. His ministry, Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, consists of almost 100 speakers who continue to carry out the work of RZIM. Upon hearing the news of his passing, myriad Christians, including many Faith Radio speakers, shared special tributes to Zacharias on social media and online. Charles Stanley of In Touch described him as “my friend” and “a great man of God,” adding, “He dedicated his life to explaining to others that Jesus answers the most profound questions and needs of the human heart.” John Stonestreet of Breakpoint wrote:

10

Somewhere in college I came to realize that Christianity wasn’t just something you did, and it wasn’t even just something you felt. Even more (though certainly not less) than a personal relationship with Christ, I was realizing that the Christian faith was, in fact, true. From Ravi, I began to understand the extent to which you could not only think about faith, but actually think with faith. Greg Laurie, heard on A New Beginning, tweeted: “We lost a real treasure and champion of the faith today. @RaviZacharias has gone to Heaven. Thank God for the thousands of lives he touched.” Tony Evans of The Alternative said, “Ravi vigorously defended the faith as a leading apologist for Christianity around the world. We as the church of Jesus Christ are stronger because of him.” A memorial service was held in Atlanta on May 22. Among the speakers were Jim Cymbala, Louie Giglio, Lecrae, and Tim Tebow.

WINNING THE WORRY BATTLE

by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations

Do you find yourself fighting with worry? The Bible shares a promise with us in 1 Peter 5:7, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” It is inconsistent and irrational for you to worry when you understand God’s sovereignty and His goodness to you. Worrying is also ineffective - it doesn’t change your circumstances! Our Christian programs and music heard on Faith Radio are designed to help you stay focused on the One who loves you and is in control of all things. At Faith Radio, we want to encourage you to pray about everything instead of worrying about anything. Would you partner with us during this season so we can continue to help you and others fight the battle with worry? Your earthly gifts help share the Lord’s instruction so that we can face the giant of worry and win!
