ohit Bal’s spectacular Grand Finale show brought the curtains down for the Summer/Resort 2016 edition of India’s biggest fashion extravaganza – Lakmé Fashion Week. Mumbai’s iconic landmark - St. Xaviers College served as a befitting venue for the spectacular show and all its grandeur. Rohit’s collection inspired by ‘Illuminate’- the Lakmé beauty statement for the season, featured the glamorous diva, Kareena Kapoor Khan as the showstopper. The high priest of Indian fashion, Rohit’s interpretation of ‘Illuminate’ was a presentation of his fabulous craftsmanship, eye for detail and par excellence design aesthetics. u

setting and left the viewers dazzled and mesmerized. Esteemed guests such as Shobha De, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Puri, Aarti & Vijay Surendranath, AD Singh, Mehr Rampal, Yash Birla, were witness to the majestic setting with 90 models strutting down the runway in Rohit’s intricate garments. The stellar illuminate looks for the female models were crafted by Lakmé Fashion Week makeup expert, Natasha Nischol, in collaboration with TIGI hair experts. Each look on the runway was complemented with the Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Lip Shimmer range of lip colours that delivered rich colour sheen and sparkle. Ace makeup expert Namrata Soni was leading the team creating looks on the male models. Talking about his finale collection, Rohit said, “As always, working with Lakmé proved to be action packed affair. Thrilled to be back as the Grand
Finale designer after four years, I designed a collection of red carpet ready garments that are high on allure, incorporating floral patterns and colours that are bright, apart from my eternal favourite –ivory and muted gold. Literally a celebration, the entire show was conceptualised to reflect the sparkle of a crystal and bring alive the “illuminate” theme” Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation at Lakmé said, “Lakmé’s beauty statement for the season – Illuminate is about creating a soft, luminous, ethereal glow for the Indian woman. The sartorial masterpieces made with meticulous detailing and attention reflected his love for the colours - ivory and subtle gold. The finale saw a grand showcase of haute couture designs that were contemporary yet rooted in Indian heritage and aspired to accentuate every Indian woman’s radiance. Infused with floral motifs, the collection was high on glamour and ideal for the Indian red carpet. The Illuminate theme beautifully translated into the décor of the show with mannequins adorned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals, stunning lighting effects and the breath-taking location. The 3D mapping effects projected on the beautiful heritage structure of St. Xaviers College highlighted Rohit’s quintessential creativity and ingenuity, and also mirrored the resplendent glow of the Illuminate range. Rohit’s understated collection provided the perfect balance to the illuminated

ABOUT SONAM PARMAR Sonam Parmar leaves a trail of glitter wherever she goes! Born and raised in Pune and trained at the School of Fashion Technology (SOFT) located there, Sonam’s label can best be described as Live-Love-Sparkle. Hailing from a family who has a business of their own sewing machines and other products important for the garment industry, Sonam grew up with all the necessary information required to make an entire outfit. For her, designing is her better half. Sonam’s signature style has oodles of fresh colours and an eccentric dose of bling. She also strongly believes in magic, fantasy and miracles. Comprising of over 70 ensembles for a beautiful summer wedding, ‘ELEMENTS’ blossomed on the runway, inspired by Nature’s four glories– Earth, Water, Wind and Flame. This season, Manish charmed the audiences with unexpected, yet glamorous variations to traditional yet modern Indian couture. Tailored ponchos and overlapped trousers; cocktail dresses with graceful sari drapes; off-shoulder jumpsuits with Victorian trails, all make for playful additions to a bridal wardrobe. The stunning Jacqueline Fernandez ina pastel pink gown and sheer cape and the dapper Arjun Kapoor in a midnight blue kurta and pants closed the show to thunderous applause. espite prevailing misconceptions, if you’ve got darker skin, you’re not immune to the effects of sun damage and premature aging. While the rules of cleanse, moisturize and SPF apply to everyone, darker tones do need unique care. We asked Dr. Mona Gohara, assistant clinical professor at the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology in New Haven, CT and a key promoter of skin care awareness and sun safety in non-Caucasian populations, about the chemistry and concerns of darker skin:

What is the basic skin biology of people of colour? There are three layers which comprise the human skin-the epidermis, the dermis and fat. Within the epidermis there are pigment producing cells called melanocytes; melanocytes produce melanin which is the substance that confers skin colour. We all have the same number of melanocytes, regardless of complexion–the browner you are the more melanin you are producing. In short, melanin determines skin colour.
What are some of the common skin issues affecting people with darker skin tones? Are these issues different than people with lighter skin tones and if so, why? Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a condition which occurs more frequently in individuals with darker skin. It is localized skin darkening which occurs after trauma or inflammation. For example, when people of colour get a pimple, for some reason melanocytes “rev” up and produce more melanin. As a result, when the lesion fades, the skin gets darker. The same phenomenon applies for cuts, bruises and resolving rashes. To treat PIH, you need to use an SPF of 30 or higher everyday, and give it time. Other remedies such as hydroquinones, retinol, glycolic acid, and chemical peels can also help speed up the process. Melasma is another type of skin darkening that happens in individuals of African, Latin, Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean descent. Patients with melasma notice brown or gray-brown patches on the cheeks, bridge of nose, forehead, chin or upper lip. Although the exact cause is unknown, it is thought that pregnancy, birth control pills (or other hormone therapies), and some medications, together with sun exposure, may trigger this disease. Again, judicious application of SPF 30, or higher, and fading creams which include hydroquinone, are best forms of treatment. There are some natural alternatives that treat both PIH and melasma as well, including soy, coffee berry extract, and licorice root.
Does a darker skin tone mean skin is slower to age? What should every dark-skinned person include in their daily skin care regimen? People of color have more melanin, which provides “built-in” protection against the damaging effects of the sun. Because of the high level of melanin, darker skin tones show fewer signs of aging. In fact, a medium brown African -American person has a natural SPF of 13.4, versus a fair skinned Caucasian who has a natural SPF of 3.4 Plus, since melanin is a natural antioxidant, it protects against free radicals–the damaging particles that attack collagen and elastin and cause wrinkles– people of color have a tendency to have smoother, firmer skin longer. To boost the protective effects of melanin, you should apply an SPF of at least 30 and a serum or cream rich with antioxidants such as vitamin C and E, coffee berry, kojic acid, and/or retinols. Daily SPF of 30 or higher is a must for everyone because darker skin can develop skin cancer. Because some physicians and patients erroneously think that brown skin is exempt from this disease, this misconception lends to a delay in diagnosis and treatment. There is no question that people of color are less likely to become afflicted with skin cancer. Sadly, however, they are much more likely to die from the disease. Because skin malignancy is curable if caught early, there is no reason for an increase in mortality to exist. cleansers, moisturizers and serums have antioxidant ingredients like vitamin C/E, coffee berry extract, licorice root, and soy (to name a few). Retinols (vitamin A derivatives) can help improve overall skin health when used properly in small amounts. Regarding cosmetic procedures, such as laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and fillers, are there any that you recommend for people with darker skin tones or any to avoid? People with darker skin tones should be careful before having certain cosmetic
procedures. Botox, and injectable fillers have been studied and proven to be safe and effective in combating signs of aging in brown skin. Although micodermabrasion and laser resurfacing are options for those with darker complexions, you’re more likely to have post inflammatory hyperpigmenation and scarring after these procedures. If you do decide to try one of these treatments, make sure your doctor is proficient in performing them on a non-Caucasian population, otherwise permanent skin damage may result.

Cancer Foundation’s Diversity Task Force, which focuses on educating minorities regarding this What skincare ingredients should darker skin tones avoid? What should they look for and why? You should avoid products that are abrasive or irritating since they can contribute to hyperpigmentation. Steer clear of skincare that contains the following ingredients: fragrances, alcohol, propylene glycol, lanolin, dyes, or alpha hydroxy acids in high concentrations. Also, avoid cleansing with a puff or loofah, which can cause irritation. Look for broad spectrum SPF with natural minerals such as titanium or zinc oxide and make sure your

Dr. Gohara recently published a review in the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology entitled “Skin Cancer in Skin of Colour.” She is also a member of the Women’s Dermatologic Society where she sits on the Service Committee, and is the Chair of the organization’s Young Physician’s Task Force. Guests may also opt to swim with sting rays and sharks, or to embark on a fishing excursion. oving into 2016, the iconic Jeep® Wrangler – the most capable and recognized vehicle in the world – adds a new special edition to its lineup, along with updates to its Sahara model. A one-of-a-kind combination of open-air freedom, off-road capability and on-road refinement has brought Wrangler’s popularity to an all-time high, and new additions for 2016 are sure to continue that trend. New for 2016 and hailing its name from the notorious Jeep trail in Telluride, Colorado, the Wrangler Black Bear Edition adds special content to the exterior and interior of the best-selling Sport model for a distinctive on- and off-road look. Originally introduced on the 2015 Wrangler, the Rubicon Hard Rock Edition carries forward the capabilityenhancing features of the Rubicon model while including a nine-speaker Premium Alpine audio system and Low Gloss Black grille with High Gloss Black inserts. Returning for 2016, the Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition offers value to customers with unique exterior and interior

The Jeep Wrangler Black Bear Edition – available on Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited – builds on the Sport trim level by adding special content to the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The Black Bear Edition is available in nine colors: Billet Silver, Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Hydro Blue, Hypergreen, Rhino and Tank. On the exterior, Black Bear features a heritage “Wrangler” hood decal, topographical Black Bear Pass trail hood decal, off-road rock rails, Satin Black grille, Mineral Gray bumper applique, standard premium Sunrider soft top or optional body-color hard top, 17-inch five-spoke black wheels and added traction with Silent Armor tires, and black tail lamp guards and fuel fill door. The interior of the Black Bear Edition features black cloth Sedoso seats, a
leather-wrapped steering wheel with black accent stitching, Iron Gray bezels, grab handle vent rings and door handles, sport bar grab handles, all-weather slush mats, standard air conditioning, and the Connectivity Group and Power Convenience Group. Black Bear Pass is a popular Jeep Jamboree trail in Telluride, Colorado, and is featured in Jeep brand’s Badge of Honor program.

Sahara Model Updates For 2016, the Sahara model – both Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited – receives updates to its exterior and interior appearance. New features include a body-color bumper applique, modified 18-inch wheels with Granite Crystal painted pockets and polished surface, and modified “Sahara” logo. Additional design touches include high gloss fine silver metallic seven-slot grille throats and iconic headlamp rings, Satin Chrome steering wheel bezel, and Quick Silver grab handle, bezels and vent rings. Also new for 2016, Sahara offers an optional interior package featuring Olive Green leather seats with Cattle Tan accent stitching throughout.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock Edition The Rubicon Hard Rock Edition, available on either Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited models, is the most capable Wrangler in the lineup. Based on the Rubicon model, it is equipped with Wrangler’s part-time four-wheel drive system that has electronic-locking front and rear Dana 44 axles that receive power through a Rock-Trac transfer case with a “4-Low” ratio of 4:1. A 4.10 axle ratio, front and rear, is standard as are Tru-Lok locking differentials. With a six-speed manual transmission, the Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock edition has an impressive crawl ratio of 73.1:1 that makes it a breeze to negotiate any obstacle.
Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition The 2016 Willys Wheeler Edition features upgraded hardware, including a Dana 44 rear axle with Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential and 3.73 gears, BF Goodrich KM Mud Terrain LT255/75R17 tires, rock rails and a Jeep Trail Rated Kit that includes a D-Ring, tow strap and gloves in a Jeep-branded bag. This works with the Jeep Command-Trac 4x4 part-time,
two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio to give the Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition its improved off-road chops.
Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition The 2016 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition is a tribute to U.S. military members with military-themed exterior and interior design cues. The Freedom Edition is available as a Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited model and is offered in Firecracker Red, Bright White and Hydro Blue, plus Black, Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, Hypergreen, Rhino and Tank. Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition’s exterior features new hard “Oscar Mike” fender badges and decals on the hood and rear quarter panels, new optional tan Premium Sunrider soft top with deep-tint rear windows, Granite Crystal-painted 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, Granite Crystal-painted grille and front and rear bumper inserts, body-colour fender flares, side steps with matching black tail lamp guards and fuel fill door, and optional off-road rock rails.
