s designers, their take on the design process is intuitive while an out of the box approach to colours and fabrics gives their creations a singular vocabulary elegant, experimental, and dramatic. The current fascination with nomadic cultures as well as their interest in the hi point of the Islamic art, has kept the duo busy with their upcoming collections. With a flagship store each in Delhi, Ludhiana and Chennai, the label also retails from Kimaya and Aza, Studio 8 and Aara Fashions in Dubai, as well as Sanskrit in Hong Kong. The label was established in the year 2000. The aesthetic reflects their passion for couture as well as our rich and diverse textile and craft heritage. The influence of craftsmanship of nomads, the wanderers and the traveling tribes as well as the vivid cultures of Central Asia and undivided India have been a constant source of inspiration to the designer duo. Their body of work reflects their passion for re visiting ancient Indian workmanship and gives it a contemporary twist. The journey as creators, artists and revivalists is to strike a balance between the two worlds and to keep the relevance alive, by ways of re interpreting crafts, developing a range of hand crafted textures - their repertoire is extensive. The silhouettes keep the edginess alive with a measured mix of kitsch and couture.

HIRAETH - AW COUTURE 2016 Hiraeth by Rimple & Harpreet Narula, puts the audience in a nostalgic trance at the India Couture Week today. Bespoke remnants, drawn out of fond memories, are brought to life on the runway against a warm backdrop created by the lush drapes of antique textiles. The travelogue comes to life with a riot of motifs inspired by the visual delights from the flea markets of the world. The audience’s mystical journey moves through quaint locations from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Samarkand, Bagnoregio, Palampore, Baluchistan with ancient relics of birds, beasts, paisleys, trellises and cartouches expressed through the embroidered motifs. Each ensemble has a story of its own to tell. Uniquely designed in luxurious drape of vintage textile in ethereal hues ranging from ivory, gold, marsala, midnight blue come together to make magic on the runway. Adding grandeur to the outfits, regal cloaks, dramatic jackets and sheer robes enhanced the classic silhouettes. Hiraeth, a collection that spelled couture royalty, found its crowning glory in the Minar lehenga worn by the talented Yami Gautam. The Minar lehenga features stunning hand embroidered motifs derived from a Mughal monument lit up under a star-spangled midnight sky. Inspired by a Mughal monument that Harpreet stumbled upon during his recent visit to Benares, the showstopper lehenga boasts of tall, strong embroidery depicting Islamic architecture. Uppekha

U

ppekha, a business graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University, dropped her promising corporate career with Cadbury Adams in 2009, in pursuit of the glitzy entertainment industry. In 2010, she won the Miss India Canada Worldwide pageant and went on to secure the title of First Princess Miss India Worldwide at the world finals in Johannesburg, South Africa. Thereafter came a slew of local commercials for various brands including, Blackberry, Clairol, Home Depot and others, and then a role in Mike Myers’ The Love Guru. In 2012, Uppekha decided to move home base to Mumbai, a city she had visited briefly only once before, and explore the increasingly popular Bollywood Entertainment Industry. In 2015, after 3 years of navigating through the unknown and culturally alien industry, Uppekha had successfully completed 2 festival films, 2 commercial film releases, over 20 TV commercials and had become a much sought after host for live events. Yet she felt quite unsettled with many things she had seen and experienced while living in India. This prompted her to pen down the #RapAgainstRape, which went on to become an international internet sensation, and a catalyst for discussion and change in the way women were regarded and treated as in the Indian society. She had been interviewed by leading news journals and appeared on several shows, including Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, CNN and Canada AM. A year later, while still battling gender equality issues through spoken word and other art forms, Uppekha spends much of her time on her TV set, as the only Canadian on Prime Time Indian

She is also entertaining several film offers and aims to straddle both the small screen & the big screen successfully, while using her fame to bring awareness to issues she is passionate about. She made her debut as a supporting actress on the top-rated show in May 2016, playing the scheming and conniving new daughter-in-law, bent on creating havoc for the show’s goody- two-shoes family matriarch. Her Hindi & English speaking character Monika Modi, has become widely popular with Indian audiences because of the ‘NRI Flair’, and Canadian English accent she has brought to her character. he El Retiro Park is one of the romantic places in Madrid. Legend has it that at the end of the 19th century, a young Cecilio Rodriguez, head gardener of the El Retiro Park, strolled hopelessly in love around the park grounds with his beloved, the youngest daughter of the Duke de Fernån Núùez, an owner of an important area of the garden. His devotion to the girl was such that he decided to create a very special gift for her. He wrote and drew a botanical study, his project was the construction of a garden where his love would be cyclical and eternal, like the four seasons. The vegetation of the landscape was comprised of plants adapted to all seasons so that at any time of year, the parterres would remain in flower and the colours

His secret passion was discovered by the girl’s father, who instantly stopped the project of the garden of the four seasons. anadian singer songwriter and animal activist Stephanie Braganza has released the official music video for her new rock single, ‘Chains of Silence.’ Braganza has been an avid animal activist for over two years, participating in Toronto Pig Save’s events with fellow animal activist Anita Krajnc, and performing her music at

The thought-provoking video houses a powerful message and promises to incite discussion amongst its viewers. ‘Chains of Silence’ also marks Braganza’s first foray into the rock genre. The song was written by Braganza and her co-writer, Colin Stewart. The track

Dreamy Design House In the Heart of the Douro.

esigned to be a “new experience for design lovers”, the Covet House is a place specially conceived for professionals of the interior design world. Located on the Douro River bank, 15 minutes from Porto’s historical centre, the COVET House is a traditionally built manor, filled with remarkable architectural details that hold the glory from a noble past. Its interior, projected by Covet Lounge, features furniture pieces from some of the world’s most recognized and prestigious furniture and lighting brands - Boca do Lobo, Delight Full, Brabbu, Koket, Essential Home, Maison Valentina, Circu and Luxxu. The COVET House is adorned with an unbelievable view over the River, and its Southern facing front ensures a full day of splendid sunlight. With a gorgeous swimming pool for long dives and an amazing space to take long sunbathing, this house looks fresh, eclectic and playful, perfect to enjoy life. Still, outside the house, it’s possible to see a beautiful and antique chapel, which is an integral part of the house that clearly shows a Catholic past, very characteristic of the Portuguese people and, in the garden, wide cages with beautiful peacocks inside gives an exotic and luxurious atmosphere. Walking inside the house it’s possible to understand how stunning the mixture of styles is: vintage pieces with modern elements, soft with strong, feminine with masculine – all together. Living and dining rooms are common and it’s possible to see a charming fireplace with a big and luxurious chandelier and two beautiful and velvety sofas and several charming corners filled with details and charming pieces. the house. Even, on the first floor, there is a large and light kitchen, great to prepare

comfortable and inviting chairs. It feels homey but luxurious and artistic at the same time with many gold pieces, to make the decor somewhat precious, like a gem, and to add a touch of femininity—like a spark. Gold makes things more exciting. The impact is augmented by the floor to ceiling windows, where the sun gets in and afford a relaxing and sunny atmosphere to these divisions. Thinking about renovating the concept of master bedroom, Boca do Lobo brought out a whole new concept to the suite. Black and gold are the colours that stand out in the different pieces that match up together bringing a luxury and seductive ambience into the bedroom. Gold leaf and black lacquer are the main materials in the room, mixed put with details such as insects and brass handmade nails. With a perfect retro universe, Essential Home Suite in partnership with Delight full created another bedroom full of sleek lines presenting the knurled details on the walnut sideboard and the modern dressing table enhanced by the classic elegance of the irregular shades of the marble table lamp. Looking closely, you can almost see Greta applying powder in from of the mirrors.
