Entra então numa loja de conveniência de uma estação de serviço que fica perto. Uma realidade paralela o espera, assim como uma mulher casada que vai desbloquear a sua criatividade. Uma história da imaginação muito original e inesperada.

A screenwriter in a creative block abandons his girlfriend’s dog in a field far away so that he doesn’t have to take care of it. Soon repenting, he goes back to the place where he left it but the dog is no longer there. Nearby is a convenience store in a gas station. A parallel reality awaits him. Meeting a married woman is going to set his creativity free again. A story of the imagination presented in a very original and unexpected form.

Uma mulher perde o marido e tem de lidar com o facto de o corpo nunca ter sido encontrado. Lidar com os dois filhos e as dificuldades económicas levam-na a reatar a sua actividade como vidente mas as escolhas não são fáceis. Com um olhar seguro sobre a perda e uma excelente interpretação de Thekla Reuten, a actriz de “Marionette”, apresentado no Fantasporto de 2021 onde venceu o Prémio de Melhor Actriz, “Narcosis” é a primeira longa-metragem do realizador.

This is the Dutch candidate to the Oscars, the winner of the Cairo International Festival, the Netherlands Film Festival Best Film Award and the Audience Award of the Thessaloniki Film Festival. A woman loses her husband prematurely and has to deal with her and her children’s grief as his body has not been found. Coping with her children’s questions and a lot of economic difficulties take her to resume her job as a medium. But her choices are not easy. An absolutely top performance by actress Thekla Reuten, the actress of “Marionette” presented in Fantasporto 2021 and for which she was the winner of the Best Actress Award. First feature by this director.

Filme vencedor do White Raven do Festival de Cinema Fantástico de Bruxelas, é também uma deliciosa rede de histórias que fazem lembrar clássicos do cinema como “ET” ou “Basket Case”. Em tom de comédia, seguimos as vidas dos clientes de um café em Kabuchiko. Extra-terrestres, uma investigação do FBI, amores estranhos, e alguns assassinatos são os temas. O elo de todas estas histórias é Mariko, a dona do café que também é detective.

Winner of the White Raven Award at the Brussels Film Festival, this film is a network of stories, reminding us of cult classics such as “ET” or Basket Case”. In a comedic tone, we follow the customers of a cafe in Kabuchiko and we get to watch stories of each individual. Aliens, FBI investigation, strange love and murders are some of the themes revealed by this film. The link to all of these characters is Mariko, who owns the bar, but also works as a detective.

Cenas eventualmente chocantes – v.o. leg. port. Os irmãos Martha e Felix vivem numa casa grande e velha que lhes foi deixada pelo pai, o notório Carniceiro de Mons. Além desta herança, Martha tenta proteger o irmão que é, como o pai, um serial killer. Abusada no trabalho, Martha tem de encontrar o equilíbrio entre a violência de Felix e os traumas na sua própria vida. Filme vencedor do importante Prémio Cheval Noir no Festival Fantasia (Canadá) é mais um bom exemplo do moderno cinema belga de horror. Excelente interpretação de Eline Schumacher, no seu primeiro papel no cinema.

Brother and sister, Martha and Felix, live in a big old house which was left to them by their father, the notorious Mons Butcher. Apart from this inheritance, Martha feels she has to protect her brother who, like their father, is a serial killer. Abused at work, Martha tries to find the balance between Felix’ violence, his madness and the traumas of her very own life. This film won the important Cheval Noir Award in the Fantasia Festival (Canada) and is another fine example of modern Belgian horror cinema. Great acting by Eline Schumacher in her first role on film.

A Freak é uma agência espanhola de distribuição de filmes para festivais fundada em 2000. Durante todos estes anos, colaborámos com os criadores cinematográficos e produtores para impulsionar a exposição dos seus filmes no mercado internacional. A colaboração do Fantasporto com a Freak data de há muito. No festival já passaram várias das suas curtas-metragens na competição de cinema fantástico. Vindo da Agência Freak passa no Fantasporto 2023 na competição Cinema Fantástico a curta-metragem “El Umbral”. O Fantasporto agradece a excelência desta selecção, é de visão obrigatória para todos os amantes do fantástico.

Freak is a Spanish festival distribution agency founded in 2000. During all these years we have collaborated with film creators and producers to boost the exposure of their films in the international market. The cooperation between Freak Agency and Fantasporto comes from a long way back. Some of its shorts have been competing here. And this year we have “El Umbral” in the Fantasy short competition. Fantasporto thanks Freak for the excellency of this selection, a must for all lovers of fantasy.

A boy tries to put together all the pieces of a ferris wheel but he is not very successful. One of the pieces escapes under the bed, his family portraits fall from the wall and horrendous creatures chase him. What do they want? A story of fear and tenderness. One of the best fantasy shorts ever.

In an accident, her husband and her daughter die. One day, constantly harassed by the men she meets, she helps a young mute girl. Together they are going to face the perils of the road and the children’s traffickers. A lot of suspense and tenderness in the winner of the Audience Award at the Cinemalayan Film Festival.

O realizador é conhecido por “Asmodexia” (2014), a sua primeira longa-metragem apresentada no Fantasporto, e “After the Lethargy” (2018).

Josué's life revolves around the old grocery store he inherited from his father and the care of an insane brother whom he must keep locked up. The bar, his faith, and his friendship with Abigail, a street girl, are his only escape valves. But Josué's routines are violently altered the night his brother manages to escape. Josué will try to cover up the brutal misdeeds of his brother, but the perverse reality of the events will turn his existence upside down, forcing him to face his macabre destiny. The director is known “Asmodexia” (2014), his first feature and presented in Fantasporto, and “After the Lethargy” (2018).

The Thing Behind the Door

Uma jovem mulher vê o marido partir para a guerra antes de terem o desejado filho. Sabendo que o marido morreu e na posse de um livro demoníaco, ela vai tentar trazê-lo de volta dos mortos. Mas que seres são aqueles que estão num casulo? Um belo exemplo de novo terror fantástico a que não será alheio o facto de um dos produtores e argumentista, ser o ilustrador e designer Jean Marc Toussaint que esteve no Fantasporto em 1996 e depois foi mesmo o autor do cartaz do festival em 1997. Para os amantes do horror fantástico.

A young woman sees her husband leave for the war before they can have a much-desired child. Knowing that he has died, in the possession of a demonic book, she is going to try to bring him back from the dead. A fine example of the new horror, surely with the influence of its writer and one of the producers of the film, the designer Jean Marc Toussaint who visited Fantasporto in 1996, having later created the poster of the festival in 1997. Not to be missed by the fans of fantasy horror.

When the legendary spy Pál Markó, returns for an unresolved case, András finds out that a single human gesture may cost him his life. The film has received Best Film, Actor, Actress and Screenplay in the Hungarian Film Week in Los Angeles.

Excelente interpretação de Ivo Saraiva e uma realização dinâmica de Tiago Santos nesta sua primeira longa-metragem.

In an apocalyptic world the routine of the days and hours are the only company of a survivor. He deals with the difficulties of solitude, hunger and fear which rule his life and faces the threats around him. What noises are those that disturb his peace? Who haunts him? Who does he chase? Fine acting by Ivo Saraiva and a dynamic direction by Tiago Santos in this first feature.

Cenas eventualmente chocantes – v.o. leg. port. O presidente da poderosa Gojo Conglomerate manda matar um a um os yakuzas e quase todos os seus opositores. Depois, anuncia que vai concorrer a “mayor” e que a sua cidade terá mais segurança se ele for eleito. Mas uma brigada especial e secreta da polícia vai investigá-lo e derrotá-lo. Com excelentes interpretações, especialmente de Hitoshi Ozawa no papel do chefe da equipa policial, este é um dos melhores exemplos do thriller japonês, cheio de acção mas não descurando a construção das personagens.

The president of the powerful Gojo Conglomerate sends to death most of the yakuzas and almost all of those who oppose him. Then he announces he is running for mayor and says his city will be safer with him in charge. But a special and secret unit from the police is going to investigate him and defeat him. With fine acting from all, especially Hitoshi Ozawa in the role of the head investigator, this is one of the finest examples of Japanese thrillers, filled with action but not forgetting the construction of the characters.

Ferdinand Lapuz é um multipremiado produtor filipino, condecorado pelo governo do seu país.O filme é sobre Liz, de 45 anos e solteira, uma psicóloga pediátrica que trabalha com crianças especiais. Passou muito tempo da sua vida a tratar dos seus pais doentes. Depois de eles morrerem, Liz está sozinha e resignada a uma vida solitária. Por conselho dos seus amigos Marco e Lauren, Liz começa a simplificar a casa onde vive e conhece Josh, de 26 anos, um jovem antiquário. Esta foi a primeira longa-metragem da realizadora Joji Alonso. O filme recebeu o Prémio do Público no Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival e o de Melhor Actor, para Kit Thompson no Houston International Film Festival e, mais importante, o Prémio Especial do Júri desse festival.

Ferdinand Lapuz is an award-winning Filipino film producer, awarded by the Filipino Government. The film is about Liz, 45 and single, is a clinical psychologist who works with special and gifted children. She has spent much of her adult life looking after her sickly parents. After her parents passed, Liz finds herself alone and resigned to a solitary life. Upon advice of her friends Marco and Lauren, Liz begins downsizing her home and meets Josh, 26, a young antique dealer. It received the Audience Award at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and won the Best Actor award for Kit Thompson at the Houston International Film Festival and more importantly, the Special Jury prize from the same festival.
