Amy and her adopted son Adrian are on the run from her abusive ex-girlfriend, Judith. Desperate to stay hidden, Amy and Adrian take refuge in her family's abandoned farmhouse outside her Kansas hometown. Soon, a supernatural force from Amy's dark past begins haunting Adrian. The Grandson

Kristóf Deák, 119’ (Hung) – v.o. leg. port. A primeira longa-metragem vinda de um vencedor de um Óscar pela melhor curta documental em 2017 com “Sing”. O que começa como uma história sobre a exploração de velhos e esquemas por telefone para lhes roubar dinheiro, leva a outras histórias do passado. Rudi e o avô têm uma ligação muito profunda. Quando o avô é vítima de um esquema cruel, Rudi decide que não vai deixar os criminosos escapar. Um grito contra o abandono dos mais velhos. Realizador, argumentista e produtor húngaro, Deák foi vencedor do Óscar de Melhor Curta de Imagem Real em 2017 com “Sting”, filme que lhe valeu grande êxito de crítica. “The Grandson” é a sua primeira longa-metragem, baseada numa história verdadeira.

A first feature coming from an Oscar Live Action Short winner in 2017 with “Sing”. What starts as a story about scamming old people, takes us to stories of the past. Rudi who has a special bond with his grandfather who was a victim of a cruel scam. He decides that he is not going to let the criminals get away with it. But in order to get close to them, he has to become a different person. A call of attention against the indifference towards elderly people. Deák is an Academy Award winner Hungarian director, writer and producer born in Budapest in 1982. His short “Sing” (2016) earned critical appraisal and recognition, and many international awards, namely an Oscar for the Best Live Action Short Film. “The Grandson” is his first feature, based on a true story.

Um homem no fim de vida busca um recipiente válido para a sua riqueza. O mais próximo é um primo ainda jovem com quem não fala há muito. No entanto, o jovem génio pensa que já tem o seu futuro matematicamente definido e que não quer aceitar a herança. Juntos, vão à procura do sentido da vida. Mais um filme do multipremiado mestre polaco Krzysztof Zanussi. Illumination” (1973) foi Grand Prix de Locarno (1973) e premiado em Gdansk; seguiram-se “Quarterly Balance” (1975), “Camouflage” (1977) and “Spiral” (1978). Foi vencedor do Prémio do Júri do Festival de Cannes com “Constans” (1980).

A rich sick man in search of an heir to his wealth. The nearest is his cousin whom he has not seen for years, a mathematical genius. However, this young man thinks his future is already mathematically decided and doesn’t seem to accept his offer. Together they go to look for the meaning of life. Another feature by multi-awarded Polish master Krzysztof Zanussi, “Illumination” (1973) was Grand Prix in Locarno (1973) and awarded in Gdansk (1974); “Quarterly Balance” (1975), “Camouflage” (1977), and “Spiral” (1978). Winner of the Jury Award in Cannes with “ Constans” (1980).

Cenas eventualmente chocantes – v.o. leg. port. Anos 70 na Ucrânia Soviética. Os pais de um paraplégico são mortos em casa. A polícia investiga. O filho não pode ser o culpado. Num regresso ao passado, descobre-se um país em crise, uma família abusiva e as amizades que desafiam a morte. Um poderoso relato, por vezes chocante, sobre o abuso e as suas consequências na saúde mental. Este filme ucraniano é a segunda longa-metragem do realizador, considerado um dos novos talentos do cinema ucraniano.

The Seventies in Ukraine. The parents of a paraplegic are found dead at home. The police investigate the obvious crime. It is impossible that the son is to blame. Travelling to the past we discover a country in deep crisis, an abusive family and death-defying friendships. A powerful and sometimes shocking account of abuse and its consequences for mental health. This is the second feature of the director, hailed as one of the Ukrainian cinema talents.

Vinte e cinco anos depois da erupção do Monte Pinatubo ter devastado a sua província e ter apagado quase totalmente a sua herança cultural, os jovens Kapampangans não sabem ou nem querem falar a sua própria língua. Um rapaz, Jaypee, aventura-se pela paisagem coberta de cinzas e conhece Conrado Guinto, o guardião da sua língua, em processo de desaparecimento. É o reconhecido rei dos poetas Kapampangan. Conrado acha que Jaypee foi uma oportunidade enviada pelos céus para passar a sua herança para a nova geração.

Twenty-five years after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo devastated their province and nearly wiped out their cultural heritage, young Kapampangans find themselves unable and unwilling to speak their own language. One boy, Jaypee, ventures into the ash-covered countryside where he encounters the guardian of their vanishing language, Conrado Guinto, the crowned king of Kapam-pangan poets. Conrado considers Jaypee as a heaven-sent opportunity to pass on his legacy to the next generation.

During the pandemic, A gay professor meets with one of his students at a restaurant and go through their past and how human relationships have evolved. The effects of the pandemic, how society sees different people, death, life, culture, honesty, lies, love and treason, all dissected in a long dialogue that reviews past lives and personal tragedies. Retratos da vida quotidiana e dos extremos a que pode chegar e uma história de amor irreverente e comovedora que esconde problemas mais profundos. A mulher rica que quer um filho, a amante que deseja mais, o guarda que encontra a felicidade, a deficiente que vai para a cidade e conhece outros modos de vida. Ou, como diz o realizador, dois casais são decentes no início e felizes no fim. Mais um exemplo do grande cinema de Milcho Manchevski, vencedor do Festival de Veneza e já homenageado no Fantasporto.

Kaymak is an irreverent, unconventional and poignant love story. A young, rich couple are on top of the world, when a distant relative comes to live with them. Underneath its exploration of the eternal search for love, Kaymak tackles darker social issues – surrogate parenting, infidelity, woman’s role in family and society, human trafficking, sexual freedom… Another example of the great cinema by Manchevski, a winner of the Venice Film festival and Career Award of Fantasporto.
