Sleeping Beauty • Jana Nedzvetskaya, 15’ (Rús) Um bailado subaquático traz consigo outra beleza. Um casal real sem filhos tem finalmente uma herdeira que se revela um verdadeiro monstro que torna a vida no castelo insuportável. O assédio da governanta, que é afinal uma feiticeira malvada, amaldiçoa a família. Felizmente, há por lá uma fada boa.

An underwater ballet adds extra beauty. Outro magnífico retrato dos tempos modernos pela mão do realizador grego Vassilis Mazomenos, um visitante assíduo do Fantasporto que já lhe entregou um Prémio Carreira em 2001.

In a world dominated by the pandemic and violence, a few portraits of daily life. Questions about paternity, the aloofness and the silence among people, the completion of love, despair. The civil services in a weary country. Who is sane and who is mad? Another depiction of modern times by Greek master Vassilis Mazomenos, a habitué of Fantasporto and honoured with the festival’s Career Award in 2001.

O realizador malaio foi já muito premiado internacionalmente, conhecido por “The Elephant and the Sea”, Prémio Especial do Júri do Festival de Turim, “Woman on Fire Looks for Water” (2009), que recebeu uma menção no Festival de Cannes, e “The Tiger Factory” (2010) que passou no Festival de Cannes e Menção Especial no Festival de Tóquio.

Quando uma mulher que desconhece lhe bate à porta, força a entrada como se o conhecesse e não se quer ir embora, a sua sanidade vai ser posta em causa ao decidir plagiar um livro do pai. Com um belo argumento do realizador Paul Wilkins e de Guy Free, com Luke Mably, o actor de “28 Days Later” de Danny Boyle, e Andrea Deck de “Homeland” e “The Crown”.

A writer in a creative crisis returns to his family house in the country only to find his childhood traumas, especially related to his deceased father. When a woman knocks at his door, acts as if he knows her well and seems never to leave, his sanity is going to be put to the test as he decides to usurp his father’s writings. With a fine screenplay by director Paul Wilkins and Guy Free, the films counts with Luke Mably, the actor of “28 Days Later” by Danny Boyle, and Andrea Deck from “Homeland” and “The Crown” reputation.

Retrospectiva o Cinema de Lapuz – v.o. leg. ingl. “Ekstra” (The Bit Player) é uma comédia dramática social que segue o dia aparentemente normal de Loida Malabanan que inicia mais uma jornada de filmagens de uma telenovela como figurante. À medida que as filmagens se desenrolam, temos uma ideia do sistema de produção e da exploração dos trabalhadores marginalizados como ela.

“Ekstra” (The Bit Player) is a socio-realist drama-comedy film, it follows a seemingly usual day in the life of Loida Malabanan as she embarks on yet another shooting day of a soap opera as an extra. As the shoot goes on, we get a glimpse of the truth in the ruling system of the production as well as the exploitation of the marginalized laborers like her.

A woman walks to the nun school where she is going to substitute a teacher. “Good luck with those devils” says the nun who welcomes her. But she is a peculiar teacher and her students are not so normal either. Winner of the Best Short Award in Screamfest.

Uma mulher na barcaça onde vive, é atormentada pelo Medo em pessoa. Premiado com o Prémio do Júri nos festivais de Tokyo, Chicago Horror e Melhor Curta de Horror no Venezia Shorts. O realizador trabalha em Hollywood e em Inglaterra e participou nos efeitos especiais de “Star Wars – The Force Awakens”, “Interstellar” e “The Dark Knight”.

A woman living in a barge is tormented by Fear itself. Film with several awards, namely Best Horror Short in the Tokyo festival. Its director is working in UK and Hollywood and participated in the special effects of films such as “Star Wars – The Force Awakens”, “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight”.

Retrospectiva – O Cinema de Lapuz – v.o. leg. ingl. A Sarah é uma enfermeira numa maternidade pública. O hospital está num tumulto com mulheres grávidas em diferentes etapas da gestação. Tem pouco pessoal e por isso Sarah é obrigada a fazer um turno duplo. Observando as mulheres que entram e saem da sua enfermaria, ela nota bem quem vai dar à luz pela primeira vez e quem é veterana. As enfermarias estão esgotadas. Duas mulheres e os seus bébés partilham uma cama pequena enquanto as que já estão em trabalho de parto ficam nos corredores. Sarah aceita tudo naturalmente já que o seu coração e mente estão nos seus problemas pessoais. Este é a primeira longa-metragem de Eduardo Roy que faleceu recentemente. Foi a vencedora do Deauville Asian Film Festival, venceu ainda o Prémio de Novo Realizador no Las Palmas Film Festival e teve uma Menção Honrosa no Vancouver International film Festival. Eduardo Roy Jr foi o realizador de “Lola Igna” (2019) e “Pamylia Ordinario” (2016), ambos exibidos no Fantasporto.

Sarah is a nurse at a public Maternity Hospital. The hospital is in a frenzy, with pregnant women in different stages of labour. It is short on staff, so Sarah is forced to put a double shift. Observing the women coming and going in her ward, she notices who is a first timer or a veteran. Meanwhile, the wards are overcrowded. Two women and their babies share single beds while those in labour are spilling unto the hallways. Sarah takes all this in stride, her heart and mind more on her own personal pains. his is the first feature by Eduardo Roy who died recently. This film was the winner at the Deauville Asian Film Festival, the winner of the First Time Director Award at the Las Palmas Film Festival, the winner of a special mention at the Vancouver International film Festival. Eduardo Roy Jr was also the director of “Lola Igna” (2019) and “Pamylia Ordinario” (2016), both screened in Fantasporto.

Aisha e o irmão Adin vieram da Bósnia sozinhos para a Holanda. Um realizador espanhol, Elias, vai ouvir a sua história e investigar com ela a razão do desaparecimento súbito do irmão. O que descobrem é a arrepiante verdade que os põe em risco de vida. Um exemplo de bom cinema, mas também um tema actual que deve incomodar todos. 1ª longa-metragem de ficção deste realizador holandês.

The horror of the migrant children who vanish without a trace in Europe and human trafficking. Aisha and her brother came from Bosnia alone. A Spanish director, Elias, is going to film her story and help her investigate how her brother suddenly disappeared. What they discover is a terrifying truth that risk their lives.
