The first issue of the style-guide Fashion&Beauty was published three years ago. The magazine was then available in just one Russian city. When we talk about Fashion&Beauty now, we are referring to a young but dynamically growing network. Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa, Krasnodar, Tolyatti and Samara, Perm, Sochi. The next logical step in its development is opening branches outside of Russia. The export version of Fashion&Beauty is debuting in Milan. This was the obvious choice for the Mark Media Group Publishing House‘s management. Buyers, models, designers, students, tourists - all flock to Milan from all over the world for vacation or work. Fashion&Beauty will truly become a reliable source of inspiration to all of them. The language of fashion is understood by everyone, and now you can look for the first issue of the style-guide in two versions: Russian and English. The brand‘s territory encompasses the most prestigious parts of town. Read it, this is one magazine that makes a truly enjoyable read. Such a rarity nowadays.

Editor’s L etter fashion shoot 20 people, 10 fashion shoot locations. 15 hours of work. Cameramen from TV channels. What appears difficultd at first, ended up uniting the team and contributed to the creation of an atmosphere of mutual trust. Every one of us was glad to participate in the project and did everything in order to achieve the best possible result.

I

have a special attitude toward Italy. Here’s where I grew up and changed my view about many things. I understand the Italians perfectly and feel like I’m one of them. At the same time, I know what it means to be a newcomer, I’m familiar with the difficulties of the language barrier and the feeling of uncertainty. When I arrived in Italy from Russia, I was the only foreigner in the college and later in the university. During that time of changes, I learned a lot. Eight years later, I’m trying to preserve my thirst for new things which is typical for tourists, but, at the same time, Milan is my city, my second home. Ever since I was a child, I have been assisting my mom in ordering collections for our boutiques in Russia, and my buyer experience lets me socialize with talented people who are passionate about their work and have an incredible flair for business and fashion. Italians and others, they all know Italy like the back of their hands. Very often, a fresh view of things is typical exactly for those people who travel a lot and are not sitting still even for a minute. People often turn to me for advice on where to go, from fashion boutiques to delicious local restaurants and exclusive resorts unknown to the general public. Fashion&Beauty Milan is created by people who marvel at beauty, discover new things for themselves, know how to get the most out of every day, and share it with you!

9 things that inspire me in September

The new business season is the time for global challenges and important decisions. Leaving carefree summer behind,I try to combine in my mind and in my wardrobe an office fashion dress code. Skirts are becoming a little longer and narrower, shirts-stricter and more glamorous, brogues or in special cases, high heels replace my favorite braided sandals. It‘s nice that fashion also in inspired cyclically and there, we are again on a similar trend.

Milan of Rosy Biffi Discovering the city according to the advices of the owner of Biffi boutiques. Biffi is one of the multibrand stores of high fashion with its management center in Corso Genova. Viva Milan to discover

Rosy Biffi In the late 60’s two sisters, Adele and Rosy Biffi, decided to open a women’s clothing store in Corso Genova 6, in the heart of the city and also an important historical area. In the course of time, the boutique consolidates a success also among men.

“The Italians have an innate sense of the beauty and the ability to mix elements of different lands in a beautiful patchwork.” In this way Rosy Biffi presents the peculiarity of the Italian way of life. A sense, that is reflected in fashion, and that characterizes the buyer of the Biffi boutique. There you can find high quality items which glorify the best brands and the work of creative luxury. Milan is a great little capital in which the work is at the center of the life, but where you can cut the space for relax, for museums, restaurants, for an evening on the couch or time-spending at home with friends.

Three advices of Madame Biffi 1. Visit the restaurants with the best Milanese cuisine. Cracco for “contemporary” version, Trattoria Milanese in Via Santa Marta for traditional dishes, and do not forget about risotto, the yel-

one weekend is enough for a trip abroad. In Milan the days are full of intense work, but evenings are for the family. 3. During my free time I move in city only by taxi. I also spend

a lot of time at home. Love to enjoy my house with its sofa, terrace and different kind of magazines to read. It is a perfect place for dinners with friends or business meetings.

Looking at the collections of Miuccia Prada it is becoming clear what her attitude toward vintage is. Perhaps as bright as her passion for the 40‘s is expressed, which inspired her to the creation of many collections, including this one. The new collection consists of two constants – vintage and hits. Here sloping shoulders and luxury cuffs meet up-to-date baggy jackets and wide skirts with good old knitted fabrics and bright leather details.

This season, fashion is governed by the Minimum Programme. Alexei Tibul discovers how the global simplicity trend has conquered this complex world of fashion.

Trussardi

Minimum Programme

Minimalism in fashion is akin to healthy eating in gastronomy - rather foundation, rather than a trend. Meat over an open fire and fresh vegetables can hardly be called an innovation, as well as the simple lines of garments from a single piece of fabric. However, the cyclical nature of minimalism is becoming a favorite amongst global brands as styles suggests that the desire to transform and reinvent regularly is inherent not only to the postSoviet nations. Autumn-Winter 2013 Season is declared by the fashion community as another milestone of minimalism. Ardent advocate of brevity Phoebe Philo‘s appointment as creative director of Celine, the queen of minimalism Jil Sander’s return to her own fashion house and triumph of Belgian Raf Simons at Christian Dior - all link to one thing, minimalism It is these designers that have risen to the forefront of the trend, and they were followed by all the others, even those whose penchant for minimalism has not been noticed. Designers have in mind austerity Haute Couture vision: simple geometric shapes, monochrome, not the usual gray-white, but juicy-colored, accessories and decor disapproval. Also the complex and bulky, almost architectural cuts and the most expensive materials - exotic leather, the finest wool, innovative techno fabric are demanded. Derek Lam and Proenza Scholuer continue to in the same vein, praising the geometry of the American Urban. And if Costume National or Stella McCartney were always distinguished with laconic design, it is really entertaining to see this effect in Valentino and Rochas collections.Even Karl Lagerfeld never ‘accused’ of the strict minimalism, gave in to the solid form of Chanel coat design. If we pay attention to the two-piece leather Marni suits and Hermes capes, it becomes clear that we see a qualitatively new landscape of this style. Very clearly the idea of new minimalism has been formulated by the new Balenciaga recruit, Alexander Wang, whose marble monochrome prints refer to Michelangelo, who simply cut off all unnecessary blocks of stone and left only natural laconic beauty. Designers know this, or should know that a minimalist design is not the notorious ‘simple’ but

the spectacular ratio of conceptual and visuality. In this sense, minimalism parts with the devotion to the uniform as the standard and becomes a way of expressing ideas. Celine and Jil Sander collections - the flagship trend shows, indicating the extreme lightness and earthiness: playful vector lines, reserved, but a generous palette, perfect cut designs of any complexity. For Valentino, Carven and Chloe, work with color, whether its deep rainbow tones or confectionery pastel shades, is not the antithesis of minimalism, but its instrument. Minimalism is the ability to focus on the most important thing. And if the 1990s and 2000s were featured with the display of luxury dominance over the fundamental qualities of things, in our post-crisis time of rapid information flow, constants attract attention. The main thing is a strong basis, all the rest being only a fascinating attraction. Alchemist Christopher Bailey managed to find a harmonious combination of sequins and safari prints with a decidedly minimalist style for Burberry Prorsum, and Emanuel Ungaro’s team managed to make even fur appropriate against the background of magnetic azure hemlines. Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackerman convincingly convey a sense of fluttering Gothic only with a sleeve cut or an oblique Lapel. Minimalism, it appears, is not the exception of details, but their exclusivity.

Valentino

Minimalism separ ates ITself from the attachment to uniform as the standard, and becomes a way of SELF expression.

You manage a big business and the company has your name, so tell me, how much you are involved in the everyday process of creating the collections of Donna Karan and DKNY?

I’m trying to participate in every process, but in such a big company as ours, you work in a good way, especially when you are surrounded by good people. Therefore, in each of our departments there are incredibly talented people who have been working with me for many years and take into our team new employees. I’m using all of my energy to adhere to our brand philosophy, to remain true to our clients, and at the same time to keep abreast of new technologies.

Cara Delevingn, FALL WINTER 2013 DKNY

You see yourself as a revolutionary or a conformist of fashion?

DKNY

With the appearance of many democratic fashion brands how do you see the future of luxury?

For me, a celebrity is a woman who has a personal life as well as a public life. I do not see a celebrity in a different way than any of my clients. Of course, it is nice when celebrities choose our dresses for the red carpet. It is also a pleasure to co-operate with some creative people. For example, we have created dresses for the concert program “Back to Brooklyn” for my friend Barbra Streisand. You are the famous philanthropist. When did you realized that charity is so important for you?

When you achieve a success at the young age, as it happened to me, apart from your will, you have a desire to give the world something in return. I was lucky in many senses, and my way of giving something back is to use my name and possibilities to appeal to the people and inspire them for the changes in the areas of life that are most important for me.

Think of your most inspiring creative project.

It is motherhood. Honestly, nothing can be more creative.

The market of the desire items, including beautiful, hand made clothing from luxurious fabrics, will always exist. In fact, our passion for luxury will never die away. A few tips `how to stay fashionable in the cold season`?

Black cashmere always looks amazing during the day and the night, no matter how cold it is outside. Clothes with simple and direct lines are in fashion this season, it does not matter whether it is a dress or a pantsuit. As for me, during the cold season I wear a body under all of my outfits and always take a cashmere scarf with me. Do you get the inspiration from Russia?

Of course I do. I love Russia, love its art and style, and feel a strong connection with this country. We organized a huge fashion show of DKNY in Moscow, and we have five stores in Russia and four DKNY stores of accessories. I do appreciate it’s past and do respect it’s future.

DKNY

DKNY

How much are you interested in the Hollywood industry of celebrities?

DKNY

DKNY

I do not think about myself in this way. I create clothing that emphasizes the pluses of the female figure and are suitable to the modern life style. In the 1980s, I was considered to be a revolutionary, because I felt that even a business woman has to be and look feminine, and not try to imitate the men. I still believe that to dress like a woman, no matter what kind of dress code you have, is the most effective way to present yourself.

une 27th Istituto Marangoni of Milan presented the 2013 edition of the Fashion & Degree Show: fashion parade of the best creations of the students, after the events that took place in London and Paris in June. For the first time in their educational career, the young designers from 92 countries around the world have seen their dresses being presented officially to a professional audience comprising of esteemed fashion experts and representatives of famous brands in the industry. It is definitely a great opportunity for these young designers to be noticed by various Italian and international fashion houses. At the end of the show the respective winners were nominated into a competition of 3, which involved Milan, Paris and London. The winner for 2013 was Stefanie Jaeger, a student from Switzerland, who presented a collection inspired by the forms of nature. She won a supply of printed fabrics for her final collection and also the possibility of a 6-month internship at a well

established design house and also world wide recognition on vogue.it. After the catwalk some of the guests were invited to the Degree Show, which was presented through innovative installations. One got to see the best works of the students of fashion design, fashion business, fashion styling, interior design, visual design and industrial design. You always go to evenings like this with a lot of expectations, both on the part of students, who have the opportunity to see for the first time the anxiety of an actual fashion show, and on the part of all those who participate: companies, school teachers, press, but also friends and parents“, said Roberto Riccio, Group Managing Director. „It‘s the time when the work of years experiences its very first public ‚mise en place‘, and everything has to be perfect because it is for the perfection and the detail that we work every day, which is universally recognized as a symbol of excellence of the Made in Italy brand.“ fashionandbeauty. it

DISCREET LUXURY Guglielmo Miani, executive director of Larusmiani, explains what makes his brand unique and talks about foreign clientele and about his love towards Italy. Text: Valerio Venturi; photo: archive Larusmiani

Бутик Larusmiani расположен на улице Монтена полеоне, 7, самой престижной в Зо лотом Квадрате.

Guglielmo Miani Charismatic executive director of Larusmiani and the president of Montenapoleone association since 2013. Successor of the company, symbol of Made in Italy, a talented businessman and an expert of the global luxury market.

40

fashionandbeauty. it

F

rom the discovery of one of Milano’s oldest boutiques to the discovery of a clothing brand and manufacturer/ distributor of fabric, Larusmiani best represents the essence of ‘Made in Italy’. This is their world, a brand dedicated to the creation of high quality clothes for those seeking a higher level of luxury. We spoke with with Mr. Guglielmo jr., CEO and president of Larusmiani Montenapoleone about fashion, the fashion system, the changes in taste with regards to luxury consumers, the brand strategy and for the future of upcoming collections, inspired by Russian tsarinas, ‘100% British’ mystery and Sherlock Holmes. This is for women and men who love quality.

Tell us something about Larusmiani.

Larusmiani was established in 1922 as a tailoring unit on Via Manzoni. Later, in 1929 the boutique was opened. He dressed many famous people from the city (businessmen, journalists, entertainers etc) and foreigners such as the Prince of Edinburgh, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton. All of them were in love with the high quality of the material. We were the first to import into Italy fine English fabrics and we soon became the largest importer and began reselling it to the most important tailors here. Then came packaging. In ‘54 we opened a boutique in Montenapoleone, which was the oldest on the street. From tailoring we evolved to packaging, and from Miani,

Exclusive interiors of the store frames women and mens collections that are inspired by the skills of Italian tailors and elements of different world cultures.

Who are your customers?

Sophisticated people that are searching for something special and unique. We do not offer ostentatious luxury, but exclusive products. Our main customers in Montenapoleon are Russian and Chinese. Are your customers satisfied?

‘‘Milan is associated as the center of fashion. I love this city and want to see it as a worthy competitor on a global scale.’’ the brand soon became known as Larusmiani. Larus means “seagull” in Latin, a symbol of freedom. Did you keep the craftsmanship?

Certainly. In addition to the collections and boutiques, we started to design and produce Italian fabrics and today we export more than two million meters. This is our core business as opposed to Zegna, and we have evolved in drapery while maintaining our tailoring. Are your collections much appreciated abroad?

It’s true. In fact, a year or so ago, we were looking for partners around the world to spread Larusmiani. A new design direction well represented at the Montenapoleone boutique by British architect David Collins. What are the characteristics of your clothes?

Larusmiani’s latest women’s collection A/W 2013-2014, inspired by tsarist Russia.

The high level we speak of is true “handmade”. We have 40 tailors, which today is not very common. Coupled with the strong knowhow about the textile industry, it enables us to combine high quality with creativity.

Without a doubt. The Russians for example, have changed, they have learned to recognise that quality doesn’t always have to mean ostentatious. Ten years ago some people used to ask us for the most expensive things, but today, they choose out of taste and quality. The scenario is evolving. What are the key values of Made in Italy?

We Italians know to translate the evolution of the global culture into products that are always evocative and eye catching. We must continue to be authentic by combining tradition and innovation. Larusmiani is a 100% Milan. What do you think of your city?

Milan has an incredible untapped potential and it’s liveable. It can compete with London, Paris, NY, despite its size. 46% of the people in the world identify it as a city of fashion. This happens because it has a creative calling. I love her and wish to see her be more competitive on a global scale. What is the mood of the men/ women winter ‘13 collection?

For men, we were inspired by Sherlock Holmes, modern gentlemen and “British”mystery. For women, the inspiration (colors, prints ...) is from the treasures of the Kremlin and the Russian tsarinas.

Fashion wardrobe The beginnings of a career. I was born in Padua, where I started my fashion career by working with Luigi Sartori, a businessman who supplied luxury brands. In 1981 I met the man who would become my partner in life and business, Graziano Mancini, who at the time was the Sales Manager for the Claude Montana label. Graziano would go on to hold important positions for Armani, Bublos, Kenzo, Calvin Klein, etc. He’s the one who introduced me to the Milan social scene. My years with Valentino. My work with the Maison Valentino as Sales and Marketing Manager was a fundamental experience for me: I organized the showrooms of Milan and Paris and had the responsibility of presenting the new collections from the New York office to our most important accounts. After meeting Valentino, I understood that fashion is an art in every way, shape, and form. Ten years with him flew by, and I devoured beauty and style every minute of it. Milan and my new project. After a period of time in London as a buyer for the Retailer Browns South Molton Street, I moved to Milan, where I gained invaluable experience at the legendary Azienda Marzotto, licensing company for Gianfranco Ferrè. This was the moment when I began my career as an entrepreneur: I started a business with the stylist Vania Sommariva. I created the brand Must Have km0, looking for a vehicle with which to communicate the philosophy of “zero kilometers” in the context of fashion. We direct the production of the apparel and accessories collection, making exclusive use of Italian workshops … everything “Made in Italy”.

A lifetime in fashion The entrepreneur and founder of the Must Have km0 fashion brand opens her wardrobe and her soul, telling us about her life’s story and her ideas about style.

«My interior pieces can say a lot about me and my story. Ancient globe is an and less desire to explore something new, every accessory reminds of a memory.».

«Look that is never disappointing. Must Have km0 shirt, Valentino embroidered jacket, Birkin Hermes and Jackie Ray Ban sunglasses.».

My inspiration. My partner Vania and I try to produce clothes that we would like to have in our own seasonal wardrobes, as well as classics with some contemporary touch-ups. We research the current trends and work through them until we arrive at our own personal style. Fashion is like a menu in a restaurant: by changing ingredients you get different dishes that each chef calls his or her own. With my brand I wanted to take all of my experiences and squeeze them into a single vision, so as to then make them available to all women who love beautiful things. My outf it.I consider my personal style to be simple, a contemporary bon ton that makes me feel comfortable in any situation. I don’t own many outf its. An example? A few little black dresses that,

Graziella’s Wardrobe:

20 shirts 5 vintage bags 8 silk scarves

by adjusting the f inal touches, can become the perfect outf it for a particular event. Among my accessories, I am completely devoted to my bags: the Hermes Birkin bag, the Cabat by Bottega Veneta … Gloves and a hat f inish the look. And I also collect glasses, both new and vintage. Perfumes? I’m not a fanatic. For years I wore Chanel N.5, then I moved to Creed and Gucci Rush. My favorite style.I love the 50s and 60s: in the United States, in France, and in Italy those years gave birth to styles that still inspire the fashion world today in all of their various forms, from suits and evening dresses to jeans and leather jackets. Watching a f ilm like “To Catch A Thief ” or “A Place In The Sun” is still a wonderful source for inspiration. fashionandbeauty. it

Birth of a supernova Heroes of fashion reportage are not only the stars of show-business and magazine editors, but are also simple girls, who thanks to their personal blogs, made their style a public affair. One of the supernova bloggers, Kristina Bazan, told Fashion & Beauty about her love story with fashion. TEXT: Anastasia HVATOVA; photo: personal archive of Kristina Bazan, Alyona Chendler

A

few years ago, the description “such a job is a dream of every young girl,” corresponded exactly to the position of fashion editor in a glossy fashion magazine, but today, ambitious fashion girls choose a career of blogging. Free packages of clothes and cosmetics, travelling, shootings and interviews for fashion magazines – this is a quality of a beautiful life that is directly proportional to the number of followers on your personal internet page. In the blog of Swizz blogger Kristina Bazan, you can find the brand Louis Vuitton together with Chopard jewellery and democratic Mango that will not make you challenge the success of this blog.

Knocking onHeaven’s door

Kristina created Kayture fashion blog in 2011. At the beginning of her career, she was completing some cool and dressy looks from her wardrobe and her boyfriend James was taking the pictures against the picturesque Geneva landscapes. Today fashion brands personally send Christina outfits for her shoots, and she and James travel around the world to find new photo themes. “My blog is like full-time work that brings in the money and takes all of my time”, says Kristina. “Interestingly thanks to blogging, I acquired knowledge of businesses, marketing, branding and accumulate experience working with leading fashion brands that

propose collaborations. I should say that I grew up together with my blog, even in the context of fashion. Now I tend to think that “less is more”, whereas several years ago I preferred bright things. The fact that I am a minimalist in fashion, doesn’t hamper me to be a maximalist at work. I am a perfectionist and a workaholic, and structure and simplicity helps me reach the best results.” Her results are really impressive. One of the most important and favorite projects of Kristina is the Louis Vuitton video campaign shooting, coincided with the opening of a corporate brand boutique in the Swiss Gstaad. “It was so impressive”, says Kristina. “During the shooting there were huge cameras and a big team of professionals.

Simplicity gives a feeling of comfort, I don’t like when it’s too much, it suppresses me. We were shooting non-stop for two days. I was completely satisfied with the result and realised that I really enjoy working in front of the camera. So now I’m trying my hand at acting too.”

FASHION BALANCE

Kristina does not reduce her blog activity, instead, she adds new photos with completely different styles almost everyday. In general, Kristina’s style is pretty iconic and trendy. As any girl, she loves jeans and leather jackets, uses high heels and sometimes animal prints and sequins. But her main passion is accessories: “Accessories are a key part of the image, so never save on them. I am sure that finding a good bag among mass market brands is very difficult. The difference in quality and appearance compared to designer bags will be enormous, while a great pair of jeans you can find in almost every shop. Among my followers there are people with different incomes, that is why, as a blogger, I am trying

to find the right balance between the designer items and the not so expensive ones from high-street. I like to mix mass market items with expensive accessories - Jimmy Choo shoes and Christian Dior bag. Plus, I like Erickson Beamon and House of Lavande brands. Just add one accessory of these brands and the simple look will transform into a dressy one. During the autumn and winter I go crazy about hats, gloves and scarves, mixing them in a different way. The best hats are from Maison Michel.” Experimenting with styles is something a lot of fashion girls enjoy and now Kristina too is experimenting with the image of a daring rock’n’roll diva. “I’m obsessed with biker boots and I am sure that they will add bonus points to any outfit. A cool pair of boots are the Chanel biker boots. I do like the fact that, despite the classic brand positioning in its collections you can find cool and exciting items. I love Valentino and have been obsessing about their new studded bag. Also I

trousers , Guess by Marciano bag , B-Low belt, hat , H&M Icons peep toe shoes, Randa

do appreciate the designs from Isabel Marant, and before the autumn comes I must find the perfect coat!”

SUITCASE RULE

Life of a successful blogger is about travelling and frequent flights, and Kristina knows the rules of how to pack a suitcase. “I’m not a perfect traveler and I still have some difficulties to pack my luggage. Of course, I try to improve the rules from trip to trip, but usually I try to bring my entire wardrobe. I advise first, to decide how many outfits you need for your trip, including daily and cocktail looks, then to choose different accessories for these outfits. It always helps to take a picture of the look when it is ready, with the appropriate accessories, shoes and bags. I never leave the house without basic items from my wardrobe: simple white or gray shirt, black and classic blue jeans, black shoes, a pair of high heels and ballerinas. That’s the whole secret.” fashionandbeauty. it

BEST FOR KIDS

What is common between fashion and silly games? Both give children the possibility to transform and travel into the world of adults. Text: Ksenia Nekrasova; photo: archives of press services

Lanvin Petite

Every girl is a little princess and deserves to dress as one. Fashion magician Alber Elbaz has created a romantic collection for these little royals. In Lanvin children‘s collection everything is inspired by adult fashion – air dresses, double-breasted coats and warm cardigans, and as the main accessory a tiara with a scattering of stones.

Chloe Junior

Designers of Chloe Kids clothing continue to drive simple styles, soft fabrics and delicate colors, adding to the brightness of the color red.

ARMANI Junior Great fashion designer Giorgio Armani in his new collection has managed to combine sport cut model with actual trends. These clothes fit each other seamlessly thanks to single style direction of „urban chic“. This style is dictated by the children‘s desire to conquer new heights.

Stella McCartney Kids

Being a mother of four children, Stella McCartney knows what parents and kids need. Adding to adult clothing line playful elements, the brand designers have found the formula for an ideal children’s collection. Clothes don’t hamper the movements and leaves the space for childish escapades.

48

fashionandbeauty. it

Junior Gaultier

Little Marc Jacobs Marc Jacobs children‘s collection is a real style manifest of little rockers. It’s full of black but there is a place for bright knitwear and original prints. Being trendy, coats, jackets and waistcoats, dresses, jeans and t-shirts of Marc Jacobs still remain comfortable.

Jean Paul Gaultier children’s collection combines elegant and casual looks and surprises with a variety of ideas: the designer worked with the camouflage theme and rock-and-roll style, and with graffiti pictures. No wonder that the collection is inspired by urban landscapes of Paris, the favorite city and fashion capital of the designer.

DKNY

Comfort, style and feminine silhouettes are typical of Donna Karan which is why you find this reflection not only in the collections for the adult woman but also for kids. Gucci

David Charles

Dresses of London brand David Charles are for special, grand events. In most of the cases they are created in the way that could fit the Queen of England. Black velvet dress with a soft pink color bow on the back looks reserved, and at the same time festive. A girl in such a dress will feel like a real princess.

Inspired by the Scottish check, Frida Giannini children’s collection transfers all the charm of the 50‘s. It is about no waist dresses, pleated skirts and short sleeves. Outerwear, as for adults, reflects such fashion trends as leopard prints and fur decoration. Little girls want to be like their mothers, and the designers of Gucci fashion house helped them in this, creating a cape of „adult“ grey color.

One of the favorite decoration elements from the house of Chanel is the pearl. This season the pearl has won all the catwalks across all fashion capitals. Designers decorated all possible items with the pearls: scarves from Isabel Marant, sunglasses from Moschino Cheap & Chic and clutches from Valentino. CHRISTIAN DIOR

Color, is what according to Christian Dior, gives true value to jewelry. The ever-creative director of the House of Victoire de Castellane’s jewelry line used this thought as inspiration for this piece that took over a year to create. The new jewelry collection Cher Dior is traditionally dedicated to him. The collection has turned out to be a fantastic explosion of colour. The rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are made from yellow or white gold and are generally studded with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, tourmalines, and garnets of different colors.

VAN CLEEF & ARPELS

The jacket is the choice of a modern gentleman but it was invented by French peasants in the XIV century!

I

think the jacket is a key item of men’s clothing, as it is able to interpret the personality of a man, and is also elegant and at the same time conf ident. It’s a ‘happy’ garment, which can be used for several occasions. You can wear it to work or to less formal occasions. As a complete suit or with a pair of jeans. It’s almost always the right choice to wear a jacket, it suits every man. Personally, I like jackets that have clean

lines with particular cuts and fabrics that help create a unique look not inf luenced by seasonal trends. I prefer items that do not depend on the taste of the moment and at the same time provide a high quality, original style. I choose garments that have an attention to detail and are timeless. My personal style is an expression of my attitude: decidedly masculine, a little bit‚ ‘rough’ or ‘gypsy’ but with the soul of a gentleman.

Men Style Shoes

CONFIDENT STEP

Clothes may not always tell a lot about a person. In the case of colored shoes one glance at their owner’s feet is enough to learn something about him.

66

fashionandbeauty. it

T

he history of men’s shoes roots deep in the past. Their ancestor was just a piece of leather wrapped around the leg to protect it from injury during the hunt. Up to XIX century shoe art developed at its best - almost all currently known models of men’s shoes had been invented then. These are oxfords and derbies, and brogues, and monks, and many others. It was only in the twentieth century that the modern shoes industry started, the ones that can be seen on men now days. Today, all well-known fashion houses design their collections, trying to offer comfortable and gallant shoes. The fashion for men’s shoes is certainly less prone to radical changes. But, nevertheless, from season to season designers are trying to bring in some innovations, delicately adding new colors, textures and patterns. So this fall the eternal classic is at the helm of shoe trends, however, sometimes

supplemented with bold imagination and the spirit of modernity. In general, the collection of men’s business footwear is presented in neutral colors: black, shades of brown, gray and beige. But for casual style shoes designers have spared no color. Any saturated colors, either a deep emerald green and dark blue, or bright green and red are in trend. In addition to one-ton models designers widely use prints with stripes, checks or animal patterns. Classical men’s shoes has unusual finish. For example, such as decorative stitching or colored sole. A combination of skin contrasting textures - smooth skin with a matte, rough - with soft gives a special charm to classical men’s shoes.

Victoria Lopyreva is a TV presenter, model, popular Russian blogger, and expert on world travel, beauty and healthy living

V

ictoria Lopyreva started her meteoric career several years ago, when she won the “Miss Russia” national beauty contest. Her number of followers on Twitter and Instagram is growing rapidly, and the paparazzi are keeping a close eye on her relationship with the promising young Russian soccer player Fyodor Smolov. Victoria, you lead a rich social life, work in television, take part in filming and charity projects, and are active on social networks. How do you manage to do all of this yet still look so amazing?

“I have to!” responds Victoria with a smile. “I am a public person, always in the limelight, and so I simply have to be in great shape.”

You have many online followers, what are they mainly interested in?

Everything to do with my day to day life: fashion, TV, travel, entertainment, charity work. Girls ask me to share my diet, they ask for advice on how to please a guy, build relationships, how to lose weight, what to wear on a first date.

You took part in a photo shoot for Fashion & Beauty in Milan. Do you have a favorite place in the city? What is it?

There are many fine hotels in Milan, but I always stay at the “Four Seasons”. For me, it is the place from which the city starts. My second favorite spot is the Teatro alLa Scala. Ever since my first visit I have been enchanted by its atmosphere, and the spirit of the Milanese opera house. Of course, I have to also mention the San Siro soccer stadium, where Inter and AC Milan play. I have had a bit of an interest in soccer ever since my first appearance on “Football Night” on the Russian TV station NTV, and do so even more now (laughs). I love to just wander around the city and pop into the boutiques and many Milanese cafes. For those who want to see a different kind of Milan after shopping in the center, I recommend a trip to Naviglio Grande and a walk around the area of the Milan Channel.

By the way, about shopping. The collections of which designers do you like this season?

Mc Queen, Chloe, Gucci, Elie Saab, Тom Ford. I also like the increasingly popular Vionnet brand. Name five things which you couldn’t imagine yourself without.

If talking about external trappings, the first thing would be my watch. Everyone knows that I’m a fan of fine watches. Like any woman, I can’t walk past a shoe boutique. I love jewelry - earrings, rings, bracelets. A fashionable bag is a must for me. Oh, and perfume - I feel naked without it.

convenient for the both of us. He has games and I have shoots, we are constantly traveling. We haven’t even sent out the invitations yet. However, my wedding dress is almost ready. I’m keeping the name of the designer secret, and making it a real surprise for everyone! jacket, McQ by McQueen skirt, Co|Te hat, Super Duper bracelet, Marni earings, Yanush

What do you always keep in your makeup bag?

Oil absorbing sheets, rouge, mascara, and lip balm. How would you describe your style?

Regardless of fashion trends, I prefer stylish femininity. It transcends time and circumstance. Tell me a little of your plans, what projects will be delighting your fans in the near future?

From September a new television project called “Real Love” will be aired in which the audience will see me play the leading role. I’m also going to start presenting fashion-chart on MUZ-TV, in which I will comment on the most stylish video clips. I’m also considering a proposal to become the editor of an online magazine about beauty and healthy lifestyle. It is a topic that I am interested in and that is very familiar to me, I’m always writing about these kind of things on my blog. What inspires you?

Music, travel, nature... and love! The media is making a fanfare of your upcoming wedding. Are you ready for the celebration? Which dress is going to be your “main”?

Three leaders

Chanel changes the concept of beauty, creating a new cosmetic line of skin care products. This line has three creams: Le Jour, La Nuit and Le Weekend. They are like three guardians of the youth, to combat the first signs of the ageing. The secret of their high efficiency is in its composition: in the list of ingredients there are three main components that „reset the new time“ for the skin. Among the components there are the extracts of jasmine, incense and rose. The wrinkles and small imperfections disappear. A good example is a fresh face of Diane Kruger, who is honored to represent the brand.

I

n recent times, some very unusual ingredients have been found in cosmetics. Experts claim that these are not just a marketing ploy but are actually useful ingredients. Believe it or not, the use of such products are decided on an individual basis.

Rattling Beauty

The most popular outlandish ingredient right now is probably snake venom. The neuropeptide venom of the temple viper is generally used. It is considered the most valued as it provides excellent smoothing and “chilling” effects, and reduces the weakening of facial muscles (it does not completely block them and therefore does not product the effect of a mask). Cream with snake venom is considered a relative of botox. The labels also make the interesting claims that “it is an injection-free way to get rid of wrinkles” and “it is analog botox”, among others. However, the cream does not replace salon treatments. Sessions with a beautician provide instant results, which, unfortunately, domestic “helpers” cannot boast of. Creams with snake venom, like a time bomb, work from day to day to gradually provide a long lasting effect (as a rule, it is possible to assess and see changes after two weeks). They do an excellent job with the wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes, the nose, and around the nasolabial folds. It is necessary to apply such means when visible signs of aging skin appear. The only thing you need to remember: Snake creams are not combined with products which include acids, as they neutralize each other.

Glossary

Collagen Collagen is required in order to maintain youthful skin - it builds connective tissue protein. It plays the role of a “spring” in our skin, which can itself be compared to that of a sofa. If the “spring” weakens, then the sofa gets bedsores. It is the same with the skin - the skin begins to sag and stretch due to a lack of collagen.

Bee venom has long been used in medicine and cosmetics. There is particular demand for masks with “bees”. They improve complexion, smoothen fine wrinkles, and prevent premature aging. This is all due to the fact that bee venom helps produce collagen and elastin, which are the primary animators of the skin and are responsible for tone and “symmetry”. There are some negatives that should be noted - allergies to bee venom, although this only effects certain individuals (those who have a predisposition towards other allergies are more likely to be allergic to bee venom)

Another kind of outlandish means are snail creams, which are products made out of snail slime. The beneficial properties of this exotic ingredient were known even by the beauties of ancient Babylon and Egypt. For them, a mixture with snails was the symbol of eternal youth. The great Hippocrates used ointment with a snail slime base in order to heal wounds such as burns, inflammations and irritations. In the modern day, taking note of the experience of our ancestors, some cosmetic brands have started to produce unusual solutions which include snail guts. It must be said that such products are rich in valuable ingredients - they contain allantoin, collagen, chitosan, glycolic acid, and vitamins A, C, E, B6 and B12. Such a cocktail is perfect for skin with visible problems such as high fat content, “oily” shine, and acne. This mix of useful ingredients is perfect for tasks such as minimizing inflammation, getting rid of blackheads, acne and enlarged pores (thanks to its antibacterial properties), healing scars and marks, and aligning and “toning” the face. It also provides a lifting effect, rescues you from wrinkles, improves skin tone, and provides necessary vitamins and minerals.

A True Delicacy

7

88

fashionandbeauty. it

Besides venom and mucus, there are some appetizing things that can be found in modern cosmetics, such as black caviar. It is added to creams, shampoos, serums, and masks. And not by accident! It is literally saturated with useful properties. It is a real warehouse of vitamins (A, D, E, F), minerals (sodium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron), and amino acids. This powerful combination of active ingredients is an excellent method to fight wrinkles, helps the skin produce collagen, reduces the signs of aging, nourishes cells and charges them with energy.

Glossary

Mucin These days it is quite common to see the unusual ingredient of mucin included in cosmetic products. In fact, this ingredient is made from the mucus of live snails, which are specially raised for the collection of this valuable ingredient. Its main distinguishing feature is its presence of antioxidants, which help fight the signs of aging.

brand

Four dates in the history of the brand

1975 The Giorgio Armani brand began in Milan. There were two originators: Giorgio Armani and Sergio Galeotti. In 1976 they introduced to the world their first collection Giorgio Armani Borgonuovo 21, that brought fame to the new brand.

Awards For the contribution to the development of fashion, Giorgio Armani achieved several national and international awards, an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art in London and Rodeo Drive Walk of Style award. In 2000 Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York dedicated to Armani a personal exhibition that later was presented in prestigious museums all around the world - in Bilbao, London, Rome and Tokyo.

Giorgio Armani

Multi-layered makeup High quality of Giorgio Armani Cosmetics gives women confidence and accentuates their individuality. All the products of the brand complete each other. In every product there is a „hidden“ patented formula Micro-fil, in the base of which there is a combination of ultra-thin pearl pigments and spherical fillers that guarantee the purity of colors and intangible textures for a perfect mixing and layering.

Simple and exquisite style, elegance, high quality and noble luxury of cosmetics are the main characteristics of the Giorgio Armani brand.

New perfumes from Giorgio Armani - two elegant fragrances for men

90

fashionandbeauty. it

Giorgio Armani, famous couturier and fashion designer, released his first exclusive fragrance Aqua di Giò.

1999 Giorgio Armani was the first designer to set up an online store.

2000 Giorgio Armani launched his professional line of cosmetics. Till now it still holds a significant place in the beauty industry.

Fragrance with history In every fragrance Giorgio Armani expresses his vision and style. Eau pour Homme is the first men‘s fragrance of the fashion house (launched in 1984). Like the famous jacket that has become a key element of the Armani wardrobe, the fragrance has developed a reputation of a great classic perfume. Today there is a twin brother – Eau de Nuit with sensual notes of pepper, citrus, cedar tree and iris. Distinguished from its relative, Eau de Nuit is enclosed in a black bottle and is dedicated to the men who choose the elegance not only during the day but also during the night.

1982

Art to surprise This year, for the first time in the history of Armani fashion house, the maestro himself became the face of his creation. Two other ambassadors of new Eau pour Homme and Eau de Nuit became photographer Francesco Karrozzini and violinist Charlie Siem: two contrasting ways of developing excellence and art.

TEXT: MARINA HARLAMOVA; PHOTO: courtesy of press offices

In all colors Giorgio Armani: „It‘s difficult to describe «my colors» – it’s about all possible nuances suggested by nature. Expressive gray-blue color is like the sky before a thunder storm, bright blue is like a summer sky in the Mediterranean, all the shades from gray to brown, from beige to rust-colored imitate the colors of rocks and stones ... fascinating colors of flaming sunset - they were created in order to emphasize the beauty“

Psychologist Natalia Dorfman cites powerful arguments in favour of spa treatments and recommends some of her favourite places in Milan.

92

fashionandbeauty. it

Natalia Dorfman psychologist

Psychologists explain the amazing feelings of relaxation that we experience from water treatment by the fact that the first 9 months of a person’s existence are spent submerged in water

W

ant the advice of a professional psychologist and author of training programmes aimed at women? Stop wasting time looking for a partner and ways to improve existing relationships. Focus on how to improve your life and your situation. Learn to ask yourself the simple questions: “how am I feeling right now?” and “what I can do to feel better?” Feminine allure begins with relaxation, pampering and focus on well-being. A visit to a spa perfectly addresses all these issues. Even a single visit to a spacentre can relieve nervous tension and stress caused by hard work, personal problems and hectic city life.

Body Wraps

BBody wraps are perfect for people who are tired from everyday worries, constant stress and “running in circles”, who simply want to enjoy the peace

and feel a sense of tranquility. Following wrapping, your skin will have a nice smooth tone; it will be moisturised and cleansed, becoming silky, firmer, refreshed with reduced age spots. Still another plus: it is a comprehensive solution to the problem of excess weight and cellulite, though it requires a course of 10 treatments. Stimulating the cellular metabolism, natural extracts smooth the skin and strengthen the tissues. The surface topography of the skin is improved, swellings and the “orange peel” effect are eliminated and drainage is provided. The procedure stimulates the removal of toxins and accumulated fluid in the tissues, improving skin elasticity and blood circulation.

Water Procedures AA wide range of water treatments is available at all Milanese Spas. These include

jacuzzis, all sorts of showers and cascades, thermal baths and underwater chromotherapy. The whole body benefits from rest following exposure to water, gaining in strength. Hydro massage – body massage using water jets – is an efficient and very pleasant massage technique. Water is conducted under pressure to the body with a profound impact, the water supporting the body in a practically weightless state. Underwater massage strengthens the muscles, improves blood circulation and joint mobility. Water procedures strengthen the muscles, improve blood circulation and lift bad moods. Water also perfectly adjusts the psycho-emotional state, relieving anxiety, fatigue, depression and stress.

Anti-stress massage

MMassage sessions using this method remove any sense of tension and release stress, the body is set up to regenerate and energise all of its systems for a long time. As a person spends most of his or her life in the upright position, the main burden falls on the back muscles and cervical spine. Anti-stress massage doesn’t just involve working with all parts of the body, but especially focuses on the back muscles, the muscles of the neck, head and neck area.

You will experience a surge of energy, feel healthy and full of vitality, and your body will return to its previous flexibility and ease. You will notice that absent-mindedness and sluggishness become things of the past. You will feel how your organism is full of new energy, spasms are relieved, muscle tension is relaxed and nerve endings are de-irritated. Anti-stress massage combines efficiency with optimal exposure of session duration, which is ideal to all those who value their time.

beauty rule

Bold and beautiful

Autumn makes corrections to the dressing room and make up bag. Beauty-favorites are changing. But the desire to be beautiful remains the same. Makeup artist Kate Mur shares some trade secrets, only for Fashion & Beauty Readers. Photo by Alena Nikiforova

1.

Before applying makeup, I recommend to clean the skin with alcohol -free tonic and moisturize the face and the area under the eyes with a cream. If you have oily or combination skin, use fluid texture (now it is Laura Mercier base). If necessary, you can make a light facial peels, then the tone will fall most naturally. Do not forget about your lips! They need regularly exfoliating and moisturising (Kiehl’s lip balm is perfect).

Kate Mur, m a k e up a rtist

Let’s consider an evening makeup with emphasis on the eyes. From the bottom eyelid to the top exagerated wide eyelines make it unusual. You get a very bright, dynamic image the autumn-winter shows demand. Just remember Anna Sui defile, where futurism and an appeal to the 60th are combined. Or grunge, loved by Rodarte.

94

fashionandbeauty. it

2.

To keep your eyeshadow in place for hours prime your eyelid with a shadow base or primer. (I like M.A.C Paints Bare Canvas). I recommend to put it on upper and lower eyelids in thin layer. Use the shading brush (MAC 217) or fingertips. And be sure to blot your lids with a tissue to soak up the excess oil.

3.

Apply satin ocher color shadow (MAC Patina) on the outer eyelid and gently shade, add a little highlighter under the eyebrow (The Balm Mary Lou Manizer). Next, apply pencil (MAC Teddy) on the lower, upper and inner eyelids and gently draw eyelines. Use only well sharpened Pencil. fix the eyelines with mat shadows of deep brown color (MAKEUP ATELIER Palette T22), this is best done with a flat brush. In this way your eyelines are becoming velvet.

4.

5.

This fall, thick eyebrows are back in fashion, so use a pencil (M.A.C Brunette) or shadows and comb them with a brush. For the best possible fixation use a transparent or toning gel.

Remove crumbled shadows and apply concealer starting from the inner corner of the eye to the outside, shading it softly with a brush or your fingertips. It is necessary to fix the concealer with a light transparent powder. Apply mascara in a thick layer. (I like Lash Queen Feline Blacks from Helena Rubinstein.) And a bit of imprinting mascara under lower lashes to enhance the effect of grunge.

6.

Next, Smooth the foundation (Armani Lasting Silk 04) over your skin so that there is no visible border along the hairline. I advise you to use synthetic kabuki brushcut flat (Sigma Flat Top Brush) or wet Beautyblender. To make the tone more radiant I add a drop of liquid highlighter (for example, Armani Fluid Sheer 20). Powder the T-zone area and under the cheekbones.

7.

Emphasize the face relief with corrective blush (Dolce & Gabbana Blush 22 Tan), using a natural brush (MAC 150). Shield the cheeks and jaw line. I used a coral TINT (Pigment) from Benefit as a blush. Next highlight cheekbones, back of the nose, upper lip line with a highlighter.

8.

With such intense eye makeup I’d like to leave lips neutral. I used vanilla balm 36.6. It shines on lips and has a nice shade of beige.

Miniature Varnishes

A

master with 30 years of experience, a star expert, and author of an exclusive line of products. She created a revolution in the beauty industry by turning ordinary manicure procedures into an art form.

Christina, it is said that you came up with the concept of combining manicures with hand care.

No one took my seriously when I started out. I wanted women to not only be covered in nail varnish, but to receive complete care for their hands.I therefore got the idea to transfer manicures through ritual. So I started to turn my dream into reality.I brought together an international team and found the best experts in beauty and skin care products.I studied all of the ingredients myself which needed to be included in the cosmetic products.Every detail was important to me, because I wanted to make a really high quality product.

98

fashionandbeauty. it

And you did it. Christina Fitzgerald varnishes are applied easily, dry quickly, and last a long time. So then, who came up with the name? Was that also you?

Yes, it was me. But the “name” of the varnish was not just given - each name has its own story, its own hero. You have probably noticed that mainly that the names dominate. In my collection there are even Russian names - Marina, Anna...I meet different people, and those that leave an impression on me become my inspiration, my muse. That is how a new shade is born, and after this a new name for a varnish. I know that you thought up a special manicure in which all the nails are painted in one color except for two of them - those on the middle and ring finger of the right hand. What is the reason behind this?

You could say that this is a Feng Shui

manicure (smiles). There is a reason why I chose these two fingers. These are responsible for well-being, and success in business and life. As well as this the ring finger is associated with love and understanding (the ancient Greeks believed that whatever passed through the artery went straight to the heart). I believe that it may bring good luck, or at the very least indicate happy occasions, that you are ready for pleasant changes. It is possible to combine completely different shades.I like a combination of light green and red varnish (for example, the British green Anna looks great with the crystal red Toy Box).It is on the basis that you can take one and supplement it with another. This kind of manicure is very effective as with it it is impossible to hide on the sides, it attracts attention! The most daring that I can advise of is to “adorn” French covering. Adding color brings “smiles” and is a highly original and interesting solution.

GORGEOUS IN one HOUR

Express Beauty Treatments: beauty solutions for your face and body, giving yourself a healthy pause from the hectic city. Massages, toning and energizing full-body mud baths, and rejuvenating facials are on offer at a range of spas and beauty centers in big cities. These locales make it possible for everyone to take a short break from work, from shopping, or from seeing the sights and give themselves the gift of a rapid one-time beauty treatment that provides immediate results. Everything from spas (which often combine health with luxurious settings), to hammams (which have an Oriental atmosphere), to specialized beauty salons with avant-guard technology

Agorà Estetica Benessere

Core of the treatment

Quick beauty treatments are offered at the Agorà Estetica Benessere, a beauty center located near the Cathedral of Milan. One example is a facial that combines hyperbaric oxygen (pure oxygen pressurized above standard atmospheric pressure) and radio-waves, creating a bio-physical effect through the conversion of electromagnetic wave energy into heat, which is generated within the tissues through an electrode. The treatments make use of jaluronic acid, a substance that is present in the connective tissues of the human body and strengthens our skin and maintains its tone, but which diminishes dramatically with age, making way for wrinkles and blemishes. “First, a careful cleansing of the skin, a

100

fashionandbeauty. it

peeling, is performed. Then the face is treated with the oxygen and a phial of jaluronic acid is applied, which has a powerful hydrating effect, so as to send the active ingredients deep into the skin. After this treatment, a mud mask is applied and left on the face,” explains Francesca Pascariello, director of health and beauty at the center. “We work with radio-waves throughout the treatment because of their capacity to stimulate a larger amount of collagen and elastin, acting on the dermal level, and providing a firming and toning effect. It is a treatment that gives a full spectrum of healing results: at the cutaneous level thanks to the oxygen, while at a deeper level it has an anti-aging effect thanks to the radio-waves.” The treatment lasts one hour. “A single treatment gives instant results; for example, many clients choose to do it just before an important evening,” Pascariello adds.

Advantageous offer Treatment: hyperbaric oxygen and radiowave facial. Length: One hour. Effect: rejuvenates your face, emphasizing brightness and hydration. Price: 140 Euros. agoraesteticabenessere.com

Core of the treatment

“We offer three different philosophies of treatments to our guests, all based on natural products: Mu satisfies your desire for relaxation, Liberty emphasizes the freedom of body motion and the unwinding of physical tenseness, and Fluidity improves your energy,” explains Marina Canavosio, the spa director. “One of these rapid treatments is “the Liberty body wrap, which has a firming effect,” Canavasio continues. “It begins with a delicate brushing of the skin, which activates the natural

draining system of the body. A warm, nourishing mineral mud is then applied, combined with Armani body oils which help relax tense muscles and leave your skin soft.” For those who have another hour to spare, the spa manager recommends adding a facial treatment that gives an energizing effect. “A rejuvenating facial treatment can bring out your features and increase your skin’s natural glow. It is perfect for moisturizing and tightening your skin.”

Advantageous offer Treatment: Body firming with energizing facial massage. Length: 50 minutes for each treatment Effect: the body treatment eliminates impurities, firms your skin, and leaves it supple; the facial treatment moisturizes and improves the tone of your skin. The famous director Oliver Stone entrusted the design of his New York apartment to the decorator Geoffrey Bradfield, and was right to do so. By combining the director’s favorite colors, a wanderlust spirit, and the environment of the movie world, Bradfield turned the apartment into a fashionable cabin on a luxurious yacht befitting the movie mogul 106

Geoffrey Bradfield and Oliver Stone

A Creative Partnership The good relationship between the designer Geoffrey Bradfield (on the left in the photo) and Oliver Stone had an impact beyond the interior design workd – at the director’s request, Geoffrey Bradfield played a small role in his movie. Notably, the make-up process went amazingly fast. Having looked Bradfield over, the stylist sai, “He’s impeccable”, and let the designer onto the movie set.

In the entrance hall, there are posters to famous movies. The mirror and the console are custom-made, and the umbrella stand is a bronze Japanese vase from the XIX century

W

hen he was filming “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”, a sequel to his portrayal of greed from the 80s, director Oliver Stone couldn’t resist and acquired a new apartment himself. A New Yorker born and bred who grew up on the East River, Stone fell in love with the Manhattan place whose windows offer an enchanting view of the Hudson River. Designer Geoffrey Bradfield decided to utilize all the possibilities provided by this magnificent panorama. He had the idea to create an interior duplicating that of a cabin on a luxurious yacht. This formed the interior’s key line – a “navigation” style. Organizing the director’s workspace became an important task. “I made big window openings in the open-plan living room and added maritime theme details, for example, I designed a special rug decorated with loops of nautical ropes. This motif is repeated on several pillows as well,” says Geoffrey Bradfield. Yacht-like bright blue banquettes stretch along the walls allowing one to admire the views of the river. The similarity is completed by the floors of dark cherry resembling a yacht’s planked deck. You notice this is the home of a film director as soon as you step over the threshold. In his interior decore, the designer used posters to Oliver Stone’s most famous movies – “Born on the Fourth of July”, “Wall Street”, fashionandbeauty. it

Alexander”. To create the impression of a movie set, four big lamps used to illuminate actors during movie shoots were positioned in the four corners of the living room. The director asked that workspace be designated in the living room room where he can work on rough drafts and screenplays. That’s why the dining room table often does double duty. For bright color accents in the interior, the designer used Oliver Stone’s favorite colors – red and blue. The key decorative elements – paintings, sculptures, vases, were specially acquired in the process of arranging the apartment. There are only a few objects from Stone’s personal collection. The most important one among them is, of course, the Oscar statue. Geoffrey Bradfield insisted that the director bring the Oscar to the Manhattan apartment and placed it on the desk in the study. The designer fulfilled the assignment brilliantly, even though he was slightly scared by the responsibility, “How could I possibly stay calm when working with a genius Oscarwinning director? You expect him to have high demands.”

108

Details

The table plays the role of a work surface suitable for reading manuscripts when working on movies. The custom-made banquettes running the length of the living room emphasize the room’s similarity to a cabin on a yacht. The color palette in the apartment is dominated by the director’s favorite colors – blue and red, and the floor is decorated by a carpet with maritime motifs.

The Oscar received by Stone for directing the movie “Platoon” seems to be navigating the boats sailing along the Hudson on the other side of the window.

Ultimately, the designer and the director discovered a similarity in their views and preferences. “He hit the bull’s eye from the very beginning”, says Stone. “Geoffrey and I are kindred spirits.” Geoffrey Bradfield’s partner and Vice-President of Geoffrey Bradfield, Inc. Roric Tobin agrees, “We’ve had a lot of clients who couldn’t visualize what we were trying to do with their spaces. Oliver Stone instantly got our idea.” The project implementation wasn’t so effortless, however. The director is used to working himself into the ground – staying up way past midnight and being dead on his feet at the end of the shoot. He expected the same schedule from the designers. Geoffrey Bradfield and his team insisted on establishing a specific time schedule for the work. “I do my best work right before a deadline, and we kept to the specified terms,” says Bradfield, “However, considering the hardship of communicating with a client who was working abroad at the time, this was a true heroic achievement.”

The motif on the headboard continues the nautical-rope theme from the living room carpet. The headboard and the bedside table in the bedroom are made of fine dark-grey suede decorated with nikelplated nailheads. The sculpture “Modern Chinese Dinosaur” by Sui Jianguo

All the luxury of the sea Italian yachting for 2013, nautical salons and the most exclusive yacht clubs in the peninsula.

T

he passion for the sea could be a true luxury: innovative technologies, elegant designs, spacious and illuminated interiors are the characteristics that make one who already experiences life on board a yatch to dream further. Italian boating with brands such as Ferretti, Benetti, Baglietto and Wider, correspond to these demands with the Made in Italy style that is combined with high performance.

Some innovation Made in ItALY One of the yacht leaders in the peninsula, is the Ferretti group that unveils this year’s Ferretti 960, the new flagship of the brand Ferretti Yachts. It is a 29,20 metres long boat equipped with 5 cabins. The interior is particularly illuminated

thanks to the sliding glass doors. This illumination has been realised in collaboration with design brands such as Ernesto Meda and Poltrona Frau. “Elegance and functional innovation in a context of satisfying all the demands in terms of refinement and performance”, stressed Ferruccio Rossi, the a.d. of the group, that proposes some other new models, Ferretti Yachts 750 and Pershing 62 ‘ are among them. Its’ name is Ocean Paradise - FB263 the yacht, 55 metres, made of steel and aluminium, launched recently by Benetti shipyard, in Livorno. The illumination was highlighted during all the project, thanks to transparent solutions like the skylight in crystal. The yacht has a large aft with its “beach area” and sundeck with oversize swimming pool that adapts to the sea waves vibration.

Another Italian shipyard, Baglietto, takes megayachts direction, with Monokini 44m, that can accomodate 10 passengers plus crew, with interior inspired by the aviation design created by by Alberto Mancini. Wider, nautical company, was founded in 2010 thanks to Tilli Antonelli, ex-president of Pershing (Ferretti brand), aims for Wider 42 ‘ Cote D’Azur edition, a yacht that “proposes a new way of living on the sea, thanks to the lateral extensions of the boat that doubles the surface of the cockpit”, says Antonelli.

Nautical Exhibitions Nautical Salons give a possibility to know the new models, in some cases even to test them in the sea, to be informed with the latest trends, styles and technical innovations

and to make an appointment for the fans of yachting and yachting brands. The season starts in April 2013/2014 with the Festival de la Plaisance, Cannes, and extends from September 10th till 15th. In the peninsula there is a historical Yacht Club Italiano (chaired today by Carlo Croce) in Genoa with its summer headquarters in Portofino,

that in 1880 organised its first regatta devoting itself in the future to yacht diffusion, with regattas and cruisers; today the club has 1200 members. More younger is the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, founded in 1967, situated in Marina Nuova of Porto Cervo, with its area of 5.800 square metres. It has a panoramic terrace with swimming pool, restaurant, spa centre, solarium and 24 suites for the members of the club. Last year a new winter headquarters has been opened in Virgin Gorda, in the Caribbean. “We are concentrated on the creation of maxi regattas for superyacht and trying in the best way to represent Italian boating. The rice fields of the flat ground

Italy is one of the most important countries for the production of rice in Europe and in the world. This traditional culture is developed mainly in the country side of the Pianura Padana area, that is not too far from Milan and Pavia. These fields are criss-crossed by a complex irrigation system that feeds the crops. Among the most important artificial waterways is the Canale Cavour, fed by the river Po. The river reaches the fertile plains to the north-west of Vercelli and Novara, creating an impressive landscape of crop and water.

Mamma Rosa is an osteria with an amazingly large wine cellar. Over here you can order a dish that is considered to be a real `ode to the sea`, called “Risotto del Pescatore”, a traditional mix of shellfish, seafood and local rice. Fresh fish comes in every morning from the local fish market, and is prepared with the padano rice.

If you take a trip to the lake Como, visit the Raimondi restaurant. Here you can find a risotto dish with persian fish from the lake Lario. This is the best way to taste local fish that is truly delicious and extraordinary. This persian fish dish is for gastronomy lovers!

The chef of restaurant Nuovo Macello has a clear idea of cuisine as he proposes traditional Milanese dishes as well as moderate specialties. This is the right place for those who want to try, for example, risotto Milanese: a dish of “liquid” rice and saffron served with Ossobuco.

Hit Ingredients Life style

Celery Fresh celery is a fundamental ingredient in some Italian specialties. It is mainly used in fried dishes and often leaves a pleasant aroma.

Codfish creamed in milk

The Chef’s Recipe Restaurant Trat toria del Nuovo Macello Ingr edien ts: 1 cod fillet | ½ milk | ½ onion | 1 clove of garlic | 33 small potatoes | 3 sage leaves | 3 perine tomatoes | 3 anchovy fillets | 2 half sticks of celery

P r e pa r a t i o n : Soak a cod fish in fresh cold water for two days. Cut, bone it and remove the skin. Boil the potatoes not removing the peel until they are fully cooked. Then remove the peel and cut into cubes. Chop the onion and garlic clove together and fry them in a pot until lightly brown on top.

Marco Tronconi and Giovanni Traversone, Celery in cooking is used both raw and cooked. Raw celery is served with fresh vegetables, salads and for the preparation of snacks where it is used as a base for cheeses and creams. Cooked celery is a main ingredient for soups and recipes that have a grilled mixture with carrots and onions, and for the preparation of meat or fish. In our Trattoria Nuovo Macello, via Lombroso 20, we use it for the preparation of cod fish with whipped milk, one of the most representative dishes of our cuisine.

In a pan with olive oil, butter and sage, fry the slices of cod. Once cooked, place them in the pot where you had previously browned onions and garlic, add the boiled potatoes and fresh milk, cook on a low heat for about 1 hour stirring the mixture, breaking up into tiny pieces the cod until it becomes almost creamy but thick consistency. Serve it on a plate with polenta, dried tomatoes and celery.

Stevie Parle, The Dock Kitchen, L o n d o n

Stevie Parle started cooking professionally at the age of 16; after graduating from secondary school, he went to Ballymaloe Cookery School. Then there was the River Cafe where he turned out to be the youngest employee ever, cleaning fish and washing refrigerators for the first 6 months before he was let at the stove. Traveling around the world, from Japan to the Middle East, Stevie Parle worked everywhere, adopting new techniques and ways of preparing food, looking for the perfect ingredients and spices. These explorations have largely determined his culinary style. Later, he launched the “Mobile Kitchen” project: moving around different areas of London, each time creating a new menu based on his travels, on the season, or, for example, on a famous culinary writer. The result of this is The Dock Kitchen – a real restaurant which continues the tradition of offering the customers a new menu every evening. dockkitchen. co. uk

The Swedish chef’s restaurant has only 15 seats and serves elk meat, rhubarb wine, and tarts made of Icelandic moss. Magnus Nilsson, Faviken, Sw eden

Family legend has it that Magnus prepared his first dish when he was under the age of three. After graduating from the local culinary college, twenty-year old Nilsson moved to Paris so he could train in the city’s most celebrated restaurants. The several years spent in Paris improved his French, and forced him to return home. Looking for fresh ingredients and the best wines, he came across a northern restaurant called Faviken, located “in the middle of nowhere” (almost 600 km north of Stockholm). This extraordinary restaurant in the middle of 8,500 acres of pristine Swedish nature is very far away from any signs of urbanization and globalization. The restaurant needed a chef, and even though Nielson had fallen out of love with being a cook (his plan was to become a sommelier and a wine writer), his initial 3-month contract was extended until the present time. As a chef of Faviken, Magnus Nilsson cultivates the principle of fresh local foods. faviken. com fashionandbeauty. it

Structured wines aged in barrels are produced throughout Italy, but the regions most suitable for the production of fine wines are Tuscany and Piedmont. In Tuscany, they produce Supertuscan – like Sassicaia or Solaia (French tasting wine) – or Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile from Montepulciano, when talking about the most famous ones. Season after season, Jil Sander launches simple and refined collections, thought through up to the last details.
