Can you describe Fendi with one word? Elegance. What is elegance? Minimalism. It brings out the beauty of order, values that are not associated with the pretentiousness of our age, with the abundance of gold rings on fingers or massive chains on chests. But it’s also important not to go too far. When I was little, my mother always dressed my sister and me in black. No matter if we were on the beach, outdoors or at the playground. Strangers often took us for the orphans. “Poor kids!” they said. My mother was entertained by those comments. And she always answered to them: “They are not poor, they are in fashion.”

So Fendi is fashion beyond trends? Yes, we don’t support trends. We create elegant clothes for every day.

You have grown up in such a famous family. Could you share some reminiscences with us? My sister and I grew up in our mother’s studio. I remember her constantly at work, bent over a desk. If I wanted to say something to her and called her “Mother”, she would never pay any attention. Only if I screamed “Signora Fendi,” would she lower her gaze to me. Apart from my time in the studio, I went to school, but I studied reluctantly. I was born into fashion without choosing it. Moreover, I think fashion chose me. For many years I’ve asked myself the same question: Was fashion everything I wanted to do? Because, in fashion, it is not easy to grow and make it to the top of the profession. Only now have I realized that I am in this business because I really like it.

We offer comfort. If you take a look at our collection, you will see that it is very personal. I always advise to own a quality item, rather than one that’s cheap and gaudy. Our accessories are beautiful outside, but they are even more interesting inside. It’s like a surprise, a mystery between a thing and its owner, like a private luxury available to just a few.

выбрала меня. а протяжении многих лет я задавала себе один и тот же вопрос: хотела ли я в самом деле работать в этой индустрии? годами я поняла, что хотела. отому что мода – это моё призвание и самое большое увлечение в жизни.

According to Fendi, how can one be stylish? For instance, the best way to highlight the waist would be to wear a dress with a wide Fendi belt. This belt can also be worn with a pullover, which is definitely the top piece of the winter season. Meanwhile, for the accessories, it is necessary to have a small clutch bag and an envelope baguette; they are timeless; but also one big practical bag with two handles. For sunglasses, consideration should be given to aviators or to large black glasses. Punctual ladies need a large male-style watch. For adding colour to the outfit, it is possible to wear a light silk scarf or a wide belt.

В детстве мать любила одеть меня и сестру во все чёрное, независимо от того, шли мы на пляж или на званый ужин. езнакомые люди смотрели на нас как на сирот и вздыхали “Бедные детки!”. ою мать подобные комментарии очень веселили. на всегда отвечала: “ ни не бедные, а модные”.

Вы росли в такой знаменитой семье. Можете поделиться воспоминаниями? ы с сестрой росли в ателье матери. на проводила дни, склонившись над рабочим столом, или носилась по помещениям. Если я хотела ей что-то рассказать и звала ее “ ам, мам”, то она никогда не обращала на меня внимания. И только, когда я громко и четко выкрикивала “ адам енди”, она наконец одаривала меня взглядом. В школе я училась неплохо, но неохотно. В 18 лет уже работала в семейном бизнесе. Я попала в моду, не выбирая этого. Иногда я думаю, что мода сама

Не так давно у вас появилась коллекция детских вещей ... Я пережила настоящий шок, когда узнала, что моя 17-летняя дочка решила сделать меня бабушкой! ы начали покупать детскую одежду, но многие вещи не отвечали нашему вкусу. огда же я во второй раз стала бабушкой, да ещё и постоянные клиенты стали искать в наших бутиках одежду для детей, я поняла, что пришло время для создания новой линии.

Fendi – это мода вне тенденций? Да, наша марка не идет на поводу у моды. ы создаем элегантные вещи на каждый день. ни не ослепляют, не сшибают с ног, а комфортно носятся, как в суете большого города, так и в сельской глуши. Я всегда советую: лучше выбирайте простые качественные вещи, чем оригинальные и плохого кроя! ы стараемся делать все наши творения красивыми не только снаружи, но и с изнанки – так, чтобы между владельцем и вещью сложились особенные отношения, чтобы для окружающих оставалась какая-то загадка. а мой взгляд, настоящая роскошь – это всегда что-то скромное и очень личное. Как выглядеть в стиле Fendi? у, например, чтобы подчеркнуть талию, я бы посоветовала надеть простое платье с широким ремнем от Fendi. от же ремень будет отлично смотреться и со свитером – главным предметом гардероба зимой. Аксессуары вне времени – это лаконичный клатч и сумка-конверт “Baguette”. у и неплохо иметь хотя бы одну большую

Recently you launched your first kid’s collection … I was subjected to shock therapy when I learned that my 17-year-old daughter is going to make me a grandmother. We had to buy baby cloths, which sometimes did not fit our taste. When my second grandchild was born and also customers began to ask for kid’s clothes, I realized that the time was right.

Once Upon A Time Most of the time, fashion takes inspiration from the past decades to create the trends of today, but this season they even went back to their childhood, highlighting the main characters that have accompanied all of us throughout our lives. This is a dreamy and imaginative moment for fashion which allows us to enter a fairytale world, marrying fantasy with reality. The fall/winter 2014 runways have been transformed into enchanted forests where the dresses and atmosphere lead us directly into the magical stories of heroines, princesses and fairies. Flowers and nature dominate the scene, next to sheer and delicate decorations of animals. Of the many designers who are following this trend, Dolce & Gabbana is an excellent stand-out example. Their collection is a luxurious fairytale where Gothic and medieval inspiration is surrounded by a whimsical woodland. It was like Little Red Riding Hood was walking on the catwalk. As a consequence the use of the cape for this winter season has become a must have; if there was ever a time to wear it, it is now! A touching story of the sculptor Gio Aramini worth sharing During a trek around Lake Como, I was amazed by some cute wooden animals that decorated the hills all the way to the Swiss border. I was wondering about the artist that had created dozens and dozens of beautiful and funny pieces and left them there for people to enjoy the fairytale atmosphere of the forest. So when I met an old couple taking a walk hand in hand, I didn’t lose my chance to ask them who this sculptor was and I was lucky to find out that he was in front of me. This man is an example of how a life tragedy can be adapted in a positive way. You can see from the first moment that the relationship between Gio and his wife Mery is made of a powerful love for each other. And in fact, they had to find a lot of strength and hold on to each other after an accident that changed their life 8 years ago, the death of their son. I admire Gio greatly for generating creative energy from what he went through. His will gave birth to a world of beauty that he created around his vacation house over Cernobbio. I immediatly fell in love with the tough but life-affirming story of Gio and it’s our pleasure to show some of his works on the pages of this issue’s fashion editorial.

Я восхищаюсь удивительной стойкостью и талантом Джо. н создал мир невероятной красоты вокруг своего летнего дома в ерноббио. In what way do the surroundings influence the interior? Holland Park is rightfully considered one of the most prestigious districts of the city. It is flawless from an aesthetic standpoint. Victorian facades with elegant mouldings, a stunningly beautiful park where you can breathe the air of history – all this has left me with a lasting impression. What was the goal you followed while working on this project? I always pursue the same goal and that is to exceed the best expectations of my clients. I always rely upon the personality of whoever is going to live in this space to shape the concept of each project. It is as if I were writing a story for them. 54

One can clearly feel some influence of the Oriental culture on the interior. Where does it come from? London started absorbing cultural peculiarities of various countries ever since Great Britain turned into a colonial empire. The Oriental style gained popularity in the 19th century. This building was constructed at that time. What is essential to the design of an interior that will remain modern regardless of fashion trends? I suppose you need to have a refined taste and be daring enough to dispel stereotypes. I can easily combine antiques with contemporary art objects or mix the oriental with the western.

What kinds of materials have been employed in this interior? My idea was to create a very tranquil space in light tones. The walls are covered in natural silk textile wallpapers and I have used black stained bamboo for the flooring to create a contrast.

Как на интерьер влияет среда? олланд-парк по праву является одним из самых престижных районов города — он эстетически безупречен. Викторианские фасады с элегантной лепниной, удивительно красивый парк, где ощущается история, — все это произвело на меня большое впечатление.

Что необходимо для того, чтобы интерьер выглядел актуально независимо от модных веяний? ожалуй, для этого нужны хороший вкус и дерзость, позволяющая ломать стереотипы. Я запросто комбинирую антиквариат с предметами современного искусства, а Восток соединяю с Западом.

Какую задачу вы ставили перед собой, работая над этим проектом? меня всегда одна задача — превзойти лучшие ожидания клиента. оздавая идею проекта, я всякий раз отталкиваюсь от личности человека, которому предстоит жить в этом пространстве, я как будто пишу новую историю.

Vittorio Sgarbi, a famous face from Italian TV, is “Ambassador of Expo” for the Lombardy Region. "A unique opportunity for Milan and Northern Italy"

Everyone in Italy knows Vittorio Sgarbi: from Ferrara, art critic, writer, television host, famous for always speaking frankly and for his enormous knowledge of Italian artistic heritage. For several months he has been Ambassador of Expo for the Lombardy region. He has already made headlines for the proposal to bring the Riace bronzes, Ancient Greek statues displayed in Calabria, to Milan; in his opinion they are not exploited enough in Calabria. The proposal was rejected by the government. In all cases, Sgarbi says, "Milan is the largest city of Northern Italy's artistic heritage (it is more important than New York, in this sense)". His idea is to exploit Expo to show the world the richest art in Milan, Northern Italy, and the rest of the country. It is a golden opportunity for his countrymen: "Italy is a rich country, with a treasure of inestimable value lost in every square metre; thousands of the Italians know little or nothing of what we have. Italian art is strong and alive. The spiritual and our artistic tradition is something that economy depends on, especially our own. We must take care of it."

Patrizia, there are many public figures among your clients, whom you have helped to find their own individual style. How do you approach the process of image creation? First of all, I look at the person. Not only how the person looks, but trying to understand his or her internal world: fears, problems, desires. I always pose questions about the profession, the intended career, the precise family situation and if the client is happy overall. This information is very important, since the image that I create will have a huge impact on his or her future achievements. For example I had a client, a very insecure woman working as a simple clerk in a bank. We made some changes in her image, and within just two months she obtained a very important promotion and had become a vice-director! Our appearance, then, is a reflection of our inner world? Without any doubt, but there is a reverse connection as well. By making changes in our appearance, we make changes in our interior world. When people are more comfortable with themselves, improvements occur not only in their own lives but also in the lives of people around them. How did you choose the team for your image-studio? I work with fantastic people. Our physiotherapist and masseuse Amal is originally from Marocco. The oriental methods relating to body language are much more advanced than the European ones. She works true wonders. Our team also counts a fully formed beautician Dalila. As well I collaborate with a plastic surgeon, a hairdresser and makeup artist, and a personal shopper. I, myself, carry out a lot of treatments, for example, the permanent make-up. And I also have my own program on how to fight excess weight. How does it work? The main idea is that in order to lose weight it isn’t necessary to refuse 68

everything. One needs to know the exact hours when these foods or others should be consumed. At the same time people lose weight only in problem areas rather than throughout the body. This means that hence breast size does not decrease and the skin doesn't look flabby.

VAL GARDENA Val Gardena is relatively easy to access and offers three ski resorts. Ortisei is the main settlement in the valley, Selva is the best known ski resort, and Santa Cristina links the two together. Wedding Italian Style

We have asked popular TV anchorman, designer and wedding planner Enzo Miccio to share some valuable advice with those who are on their way to follow the lead of these celebrities and have their own wedding ceremony in Italy.

Let us start with the wedding gown. What should it be like, and what designers do your brides usually opt for? I’d like to say it straight off that details are crucial to every bride’s image. This means you have to pay special attention not only to the gown itself but to other components of the look as well. Weird cumbersome hairdos are a NO! The make-up shouldn’t be too shiny or involve too many colours. You’d better know where to draw the line with accessories, too. You could either use one large-sized accessory or several small ones. The veil should be simple, particularly if the wedding dress features a lot of embroidery or lace. It is fine to choose a patterned veil if the dress is minimalist though. Many brides I work with tend to 84

prefer Armani Privè, Vera Wang, Jenny Packham or Oscar de la Renta due to the flawless fit of their dresses and their sophisticated embroidery. After spending many years alongside my clients I have scrutinized their preferences and launched my own line of wedding dresses – the Enzo Miccio Bridal Collection.

How do you choose a perfect location for the ceremony? First of all, I advise those who really want to have the best possible venue to turn to a professional wedding planner with many years of experience, and who knows the territory inside out. This person will be able to help you find unique historical locations that are somewhat less known to the public. Then the choice will depend on individual tastes. Italy is such a beautiful country that I find it hard to recommend just one particular place. If you love the sea, then Capri would be a great choice. If you prefer the hills, an obvious answer is Tuscany. Those who feel like something from a fairy-tale can get married in Venice with spectacular palaces and the Grand Canal in the background.

Which hotels would you recommend to newlyweds and their guests based on your professional experience? There are a number of 5-star hotels in Italy. But I do recommend investing a little time into finding something more picturesque, for example an old-time small inn out in the country. Places like that reflect the local atmosphere best of all. You and your guests will cherish the memory not only of the ceremony but also your stay at the hotel. What is the right approach to menu planning? It makes sense to consider the season and the region in which the couple is to get married. If it is by the sea, the menu should definitely involve fish and seafood dishes, both cooked and raw. Risotto is a must-have if the ceremony is taking place in winter in Milan. And regardless of the season and region I suggest that you include pasta into the menu as a symbol of Italian cuisine. Italy’s popularity as a wedding location is ever-growing. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin; these couples all said "I do" in this country

What should a couple do if they can’t afford to spend much time on organisational issues but still hope to have a fabulous wedding? What should they focus on above all? I would recommend hiring a professional wedding planner to save some time and spare yourself the trouble. However if you still prefer to organize the wedding on your own, you should first of all make a to-do list. The most important thing is to finalize the date and the number of guests. After that you can proceed to choosing the place and theme of your wedding. What kind of mistakes do couples often make when preparing for the wedding? And how can they be avoided?

I like comparing a wedding ceremony with a cake as both consist of various ingredients. You have to know how to select and mix them well. You should pick a theme for the wedding, determine its main shades, choose flowers, and combine it all together paying close attention to every single detail. For example, quite often couples do not take their guests’ preferences into account. This is a very bad mistake to make! It is essential to plan all movements of your guests thoroughly in advance, especially if we are speaking of a destination wedding. Another important thing is to find out if anyone has an intolerance to certain food ingredients. You might have to replace these products or prepare an alternative menu. These seemingly inconsiderable details in fact do make a great difference and show your guests how much their presence means to you.

На чем нужно сосредоточиться в первую очередь? тобы сэкономить время и нервы, советую обратиться к профессиональному организатору свадеб. о если вы предпочитаете заняться подготовкой праздника самостоятельно, то в первую очередь стоит составить список того, что нужно сделать. амое важное – определиться с датой и с количеством гостей. осле этого можно приступать к выбору места и темы свадьбы. Каковы самые типичные ошибки при подготовке к свадьбе, и как их избежать? не нравится сравнивать свадьбу с тортом. н состоит из разных ингредиентов, которые нужно суметь правильно перемешать. о же самое происходит и с подготовкой к свадьбе. еобходимо выбрать тему, определить основные оттенки, подобрать цветы и декорации. ри этом, нужно обращать пристальное внимание на каждую деталь, ведь в итоге все компоненты должны гармонично сочетаться. А как лучше подойти к составлению меню? Здесь нужно брать в расчет время года и регион, в котором пара решила пожениться. Если это на море, то в меню обязательно должна быть рыба и морепродукты, в том числе и сырые. Если же свадьба будет зимой, в илане, то тогда не обойтись без ризотто. о независимо от сезона и выбранной области, я бы включил в меню пасту как символ итальянской кухни. Говоря о винах, я бы отошел от классических правил сервировки и оставил бы напитки прямо в бутылках – чтобы по этикетке гости смогли узнать сорт и происхождение вина.

Scientific cuisine

It's not enough to be a chef to do molecular cuisine. One also needs a good knowledge of the laws of chemistry and physics and to be able to put them into practice. In Italy, the good name of molecular gastronomy rests on the chefs and amateur chemists Ettore Bocchia and Daniel Facen. We asked the latter what purpose is served by scientific experiments in the kitchen, and why the future belongs to them: Most people think that our cuisine is unhealthy. In fact, it is not. We do use additives, but who doesn't? The substances we choose are completely safe. Molecular cooking is a science about ingredients and the best way to cook them. For example, we often put meat, fish and vegetables in a vacuum and then dip them in hot but not boiling water, and cook them in this way. It takes, of course, 88

much longer, but the food preserves all its beneficial properties, while at higher temperatures some of the vitamins get lost. One of our goals is to show that there are many more ways to cook food than most people think. For example, emulsification. This is a procedure in which drinks and solid foods are made into foam. We also transform ingredients into jelly and place liquids in very thin-walled spheres. It would be quite a challenge to repeat this at home. We use specialized and expensive equipment, whereas not every household has even a conventional food processor! I don't expect, of course, that people will immediately start to treat molecular gastronomy with great respect and confidence. Everything takes time. But I am convinced that 20 years from now, people will do justice to our ideas, and will start to use them in their own kitchens.

The secret of fluffy polenta: My polenta is not too thick, and its consistency is more like a light cream. This is because I use only 100g of flour for ½ litre of water, and not 200g as is specified in the classic recipe. ANDREA BERTON Today, Andrea Berton is one of the most brilliant Italian chefs. He began his career in the kitchens of such preeminent masters as Alain Ducasse and Gualtiero Marchesi. Andrea earned his first two Michelin stars for the restaurant Trussardi alla Scala, where he was the chef before opening his own establishment Ristorante Berton. INGREDIENTS: For polenta: ˚ ½ litre of water ˚ 100g cornflour (the best is farina di Storo) ˚ 3g salt For parmesan fondue: ˚ 250g milk ˚ 250g cream ˚ 150g Parmigiano Reggiano (2 years old) For melted butter mix: ˚ 30g butter ˚ 5g corn flour

PREPARATION: Bring the water to the boil, put in the polenta and salt, then stir, cover and leave for 50 mins. At the end add more salt if needed. Do not let the polenta cool down. At the same time boil the milk and the cream and wait until the mixture thickens. Pour it into a thermomixer, add the parmesan and whip until smooth. Then put the fondue in a bowl and keep it warm. Melt a piece of butter in a separate saucepan and sprinkle it with corn flour.

Valtellina has it all – snowy mountains, boundless green meadows, scenic rivers, fresh air and, of course, a distinctive cuisine. Though not sophisticated, the food is very substantial and is made exclusively with local ingredients. One of the local staples is buckwheat flour. The main local dish, pizzoccheri, wouldn't have existed without it. It is tagliatelle, handmade from brown flour with local Casera cheese, potatoes, savoy cabbage and butter. The locals are so proud of their culinary invention that they even inaugurated a whole Academy of pizzoccheri in Teglio, the town which is considered to be the birthplace of the dish. Something else the Valtellina people are proud of is polenta taragna, also made with buckwheat flour. It is reminiscent of porridge mixed with Casera cheese and butter. Don't miss fried dumplings, called sciatt, made with the same ingredients. Another dish cooked only in Valtellina is taroz or potato, green beans and cheese gratin. And one of the favourite valley desserts is a fruitcake made again from buckwheat flour, with raisins, figs and nuts.

Italian and Russian entrepreneurs gathered together to discuss new opportunities for business collaboration between Italy and Russia and to celebrate the emergence of two new projects by publisher Elena Bugranova. Two years ago she introduced Fashion&Beauty magazine, distributed all over Russia, to the Italian market. In our interview the entrepreneur describes the infinite potential of the Russian market and her personal role in it.

Could you please tell us more about your collaboration with the famous high-end Portofino Yacht Club? We are also very happy to announce the launch of Portofino magazine in collaboration with the same-name yacht club that’s scheduled for April 2015. It will be an annual collectible issue that actually has more in common with a book than a magazine and will be hand-presented to each person who moors their yacht in the prestigious bay.

I'm staying! ARMAN AVETIKIAN From: Samara, Russia Job: Clothes designer How long living in Italy: 8 months What did you do before moving here? I started to study design in Samara but quickly realized that it was useless. The education was very costly but didn't have any purpose. Nobody explained anything much to us. I decided to gain experience in the Samara knitting factory. I just went there when I was 19, and they took me. At first, of course, they looked on me with suspicion. There were no young people working there, and especially no guys. But after some time everybody got used to me. A few years ago I created my 104

own brand, called “Froy”. It started with knitted sweaters, and now I am about to launch trousers and ponchos.

Why did you choose Italy specifically? I like the way design is taught here. Now I am a student of Milano Politecnico. And in terms of work there is more scope for creativity in Italy. We make our clothes in Tuscany, and there is an enormous selection of fabrics and threads of every possible colour! You can think of any unimaginable style and then realize it. What don't you like in the new country? I’m a little embarrassed that Italians love kissing and hugging so much at every possible occasion. I am quite

a restrained person and always try to stick to verbal greetings. But with Italians it’s not so easy! I especially don't like bureaucratic delays. It requires much more time to start your own company here than in Russia.

And what do you like? Mostly all of it! And especially the coffee. In Russia, for example, one needs to go to a bar, sit down at a table, order a coffee, convince the waiter that one doesn't need anything else, ask for the bill, wait for the waiter to come back, pay, and then leave. So much trouble for just one cup of coffee! And in Italy it’s all very quick: you have barely walked in and you are already drinking coffee directly at the bar.

А что нравится? Да в принципе все! А особенно – кофе. Вот, например, в оссии надо зайти в бар, сесть за столик, дождаться меню, заказать кофе, убедить официанта, что больше ничего не надо, попросить счет, подождать, пока официант вернется, оплатить и только потом уйти! только проблем из-за одной чашки кофе! CANNES FAIR The French Riviera is no stranger to the superyacht culture, and the Cannes Yachting Festival is the world’s leading in-water boat show where enthusiasts get the rare opportunity to take advantage of their sea trials, excellent for anyone who ever felt like taking a 50 metre yacht out for a spin. This year the Monaco Yacht Show hosted their 24th edition in Port Hercule. The important networking platform for B2B and B2C is an excellent opportunity that the hosts are aware of and they ensure that visitors are in the enlightened company of prestigious partners: Ulysse Nardin, Baccarat, Porsche, and Avakian.
