URBAN WINES SUNSET DRINKING
BY katie truman
A refined-meets- casual new venue for competitively priced quality wines and gourmet cuisine at sunset..., or for that matter, at anytime It is highly probable that you may have whizzed past the Europeanstyle, double storey building sticking out like a sore thumb on the Sunset Road intersection. You’ve no idea what’s inside, but it might be in your best interests to stop. Launched June this year, as the name suggests, Urban Wines, Wine Shop and Lounge is all about wines and more. If like me, you’re European, Bali is a slap in the face regarding wines, where over-inflated prices are the norm and some varieties hard to acquire, making wines seem like a luxury item.
Indonesian-owned, managed by BITES! Hospitality management and overseen by a self-confessed wine buff with years of F+B hospitality, Urban Wines deliberately keeps their 300-plus wine selection reasonably and competitively priced: a combo of good relationships with wine suppliers, insiders’ knowledge and clear mission to keep prices real rather than high mark-ups and tidy profits which, as we all well know, some establishments are guilty of here.
sofas and timbered floors. Note wine bottles are stored in what appears to be every nook and cranny (even the ceiling), while the small wine cellar at the rear houses more premium wines. This building was carefully renovated to give it a “vintage European” feel; in fact I’d swear I was in Europe, in some Alpine lodge or whatever, apart from the fact that patrons here are freely puffing away on cigarettes without fear of a nasty ticking off or fine.
Quality, but good value wines – sparkling, red, white and rose, from New Zealand to Napa Valley – retail in the downstairs shop in consumer-friendly displays, with prices starting at around Rp. 200,000 (and that’s for Australian labels) and opening promos covering two bottles for Rp. 350,000 and three for Rp. 500,000; plans for 2015 include monthly wine promotions. Free tastings and samples are also occasionally available, subject to wine suppliers.
With a feel of a private club and a word-of-mouth establishment (getting quite buzzy on the weekend) the scene is set to indulge in a glass (or three) of fine wines (from around Rp. 120,000), or a bottle or two, with, if needs be, selection advice from the manager. Alternatively, a decent selection of aperitifs, single malt whiskeys, gins and even sangrias and cocktails are available; all these can be soaked up with Canapés (such as smoked salmon on blinis with cream cheese, roasted duck rolls and marinated chicken wings), or that classic wine accompaniment, Cheese Platters with cold cuts.
Up the rough-hewn stone steps and you surprisingly, you enter an intimate, softly-lit wine lounge, with candlelit tables, sink-in comfy leather
– 20 –
And get this, there’s even a French Chef, originally native Parisian, lurking in the small kitchen; he can organize on request, small private dinners, hosted upstairs at the rusticstyle wood dining tables These can be set menus of four to five courses, or chef can whip-up a customized surprise dinner paired with wines, or dining guests can choose their own accompanying bottles. Cuisine and culinary techniques are essentially French, but with world flavours, local produce and some unusual twists (the palette cleanser here is lemon sorbet with Szechuan peppercorns drowning in vodka and served in a cocktail glass!). Dishes could include Salmon Tartare, Marseillesstyle Shrimp and Calamari Bisque,
insanely tender US tenderloin steak and slow-cooked pork belly, with caramelized crispy skin, rounded off with traditional Bread and Butter Pudding accompanied by a pumpkin and tarragon mini-crepe. These private dinners are evidently popular, given the number of repeat patrons. So next time when you whizz past and are now aware what Urban Wines is all about, maybe you’ll be tempted to drop in for some sunset drinking… without the sunset. quarzia
quality/price ratio is also very important for our client. S: I guess others know better!!
Quarzia is a fashion brand created by 2 Italian Artists. When we first checked out their work we tought that their creative flair and outfits was incredible and wanted to know more. I was delighted when they agreed to complete an interview for Fauve Magazine. Read on the discover, amongst other things, what Quarzia is inspired by! S - Simo M - Marco May you tell us a bit more about yourself? Where do you come from? Where do you live? M: I come from Toscany –Always work in the fashion biz – Starting from accounting/finance then Marketing/ franchising and now more focus on the creative side and batik production. S: Coming from 2 beautiful cities of Italy, Venice and Florence , living between a couple of patches of paradise in Bali. When did you first realize that you were going to pursue fashion? And what is your number one passion beside fashion? M: I’m born in Prato, a small town known as a very good textile production center and location of many prete a porter fashion company. I tried something different but is probably in my destiny to work in fashion. I also like contemporary art and classic and also cinema. S: When I was a child, getting lost in fashion magazines and drawings. Singing under the shower!!!! You created these amazing print batik on silk. How this adventure started? S: Inspired and fascinated by the complexity of this technique, I’ve always loved to create modular patterns, and I found batik a prefect media to express myself. Batik in this case is an entirely hand made technique, very different from “print” and it proudly belong to the Indonesian heritage; it required such a fine and precise craftsmanship!I hope we can help to preserve this incredible art, ‘cause only trough our skillful artist Quarzia can thrive! Also, what was the most valuable thing you learned about “la Mode”? M: As a friend of mine said…”la Mode” pass but your brand must stay (alive)…..I also learn to observe S: About “La Mode” and life : everything is constantly changing, all is impermanent !!! What is your signature? M: Silk batik…..bright color….. challenging color combination. S: Colors hues and elegance. What are you known most for? M: For our original product and his high quality. Our
How would you describe the ‘Quarzia’ Woman? M: Intelligent and acculturated, able to recognize and appreciate a unique work …. Independent and social…… with Style and Elegance in her DNA. S: I think is more important that the woman who wears Quarzia define herself!! we dress very different women and for sure the common thread is the touch of elegance that our silky batik are able to convey…. What is that makes fashion, Great/Superb FASHION? What is that X-factor quality that lifts a garment or a collection to higher level? M: When creativity, quality of fabrics and good facons make an original and wearable product. S: For me is when extreme creativity/originality meet functionality and they happily marry under “high quality”. Where do you seek inspiration? M: Book and bookstore…. Internet… tribal art and old textile …….but nature itself is the best inspiration S: For patterns : in the most inexhaustible source that is nature… for the style : all my friends’ clothes, my clothes and my fav designers’ collections!! Can you describe the work involved in utilizing textiles and prints for your new collection? M: We usually buy raw textile ready for dyeing and the decorate them, that mean a lot of color test when you start a new collection then we do the color combination or group of color that we apply in our new pattern/ motif… after that we start to talk about model. S: Not sure if I get the question: It’s a constant work in progress, we don’t create a collection in a classic way, we add new styles and get out old ones from Quarzia core collection. How do you discover your textiles? Do you travel the remote parts of Indonesia in search of that certain fabric? M: We did it but usually there is no follow up from those suppliers in the remote area of Indonesia so didn’t continue any relationship… and yes we love to buy textile, sarong and scarf from the place that we visit. S: Inspirational textiles can comes from every place I go, and Indonesia is for sure a good source for them… it’s such a surprise ,sometimes, to find the finest silk still hand woven in the middle of nowhere…. If you could give women one piece of fashion advice, what would it be? M: When you find that “piece” ….go for it. S: Less is more!!! Last one! Tell us something about your next collection that nobody knows, yet! M: …..brown – violet – blue – yellow….something is missing and we don’t know what..!!!...YET S: I don’t know yet either!! ahahahaha Jl. Oberoi 3A, Seminyak-Bali malas@quarzia.it www.quarzia.it

Predicting the Trends on Bazaar Fashion Festival 2014
BY rai
From flowing floral dress Biyan, to collaboration art-fashion Mel Ahyar, and glowing in the dark apparel Danjyo Hyoji, Bazaar Fashion Festival 2014 give something more than expected for the fashion trends 2015. With a row of designer names noted for, Pasar Indonesia and Bazaar Fashion Festival (BFF) 2014 cannot be denied as a promising fashion event. And in fact, it does. Several names that have been long transverse in the fashion world in Indonesia like Biyan, Sebastian Gunawan, Oscar Lawalata, Mel Ahyar, or Barli Asmara, as well as others truly show their best collections. Indulging the eyes of audiences and some of them are giving hope to be a trend in the coming years. Designer Biyan opens the fashion week with the presentation of his collection “Seruni”, a combination of inspiration between Japanese art and Indonesian tribal motif Sumba. We see a light kimono coat, flowing dress with chrysanthemum motif, tulle
– 34 –
blouse and dresses with embroidery motif, coat and jacket with tribal accent. All of them are impressive. Asymmetric layering technique made a simple silhouette and contrast, between masculine and feminine, bright-light and dark-intense, or pure and strong. These collections are strong, cool and very stylish. Fashionably fabulous and it succeed as opening act of the fashion week which was being held on 22-26 October 2014 at Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan, Jakarta. This event is also presenting IPMI (Indonesian Fashion Designer Council) Trend Show 2015. Besides the impressive collection by Biyan, there are about 30 designers and brands who participate in this event. Among them are Danjyo Hyoji, Monday to Sunday, Lekat, Populo Batik, TIKprive, Sutanto Danuwidjaja, Adrianto Halim, Stephanus Hamy, Yongki Budisutisna, Widi Budimulya, and some IPMI designers such as Didi Budiardjo, Era Soekamto, Mel Ahyar, Yogie Pratama, Kanaya Tabitha, Rusli Tjohnardi, edbe by Eddy Betty, Danny Satriadi, Carmanita, Austere by Tri Handoko, Tuty Cholid, dan Oscar Lawalata. From all the presentations, some of them wowed audience with the
collections and also through the packaging of the show itself. For example, like what designer Sutanto Danuwidjaja did. He made a breakthrough show with very-cooland-artsy and very well prepares presentation. For his collection entitled “Eccentric Oriental”, Danuwidjaja make a collaboration with Grace Liem for accessories and Ikie Morphacio for body painting. Fancy dresses with rich ornament and embroidery techniques formed detail resembling image such as tree, phoenix, waves and dragon. The embroidery figure then being clipped and arranged on the items so that it will look like the painting as three dimension pieces. This collection gives the impression that is provocative, feminine, glamorous and also elegant at the same time. Danuwidjaja presents nine cocktail dress with the silhouette of fitting the vibrant colour and solid as the fuchsia, blue, green, red, yellow and gold. The element of orientalise converted into a three dimension figure. Then there is eight pieces of accessories made of various content; ranging from embroidery to the slab of metal. Danuwidjaja is also presenting an acrylic sheet laser techniques cutting shaped dragon worn by the semi-nude male model

and looped in a body or put it on the shoulder. He closed the show with two cocktail dresses for kids and a white dress full of an imitation of floral from top to toe. What-ashow! The presentation that is not less spectacular also served by Danjyo Hiyoji, the fashion label and company managed and directed by Dana Maulana and Liza Mashita. A collection of ready-to wear for men and women is completed colours fluorescent orange and green. This fluorescent colour, which there are in the cap, t-shirts, pants and the laces of a shoe, was ablaze when lights out. The concept was somewhat like similar with a fluorescent lamp that as playing in the night club. Danjyo managed to astound and amazed audience in the performances this time. Not only because the game of a fluorescent lamp, but also the attraction of the collection itself are interesting; as ornaments and motives were given on t-shirts, loose shorts and sporty shoes. It’s a promising trend for 2015! And we cannot wait to see the next struck from this label. Meanwhile, designer Barli Asmara presents 48 batik dresses and Indonesian’s traditional gown ‘kebaya’ collection that inspired by
traditional costume from palaces of Solo and Yogyakarta composed in such a way to look more modern. Using taffeta fabric, satin, velvet and tulle, Barli brings elegance and fancy into women’s wear entitled “Royal Javanese”. The collections dominated by evening dress, then the silhouette bustier. He also put detail embroidery and fringe on some items as well as ornamental carved Javanese belt. The use of black and gold is believed to be a symbol of graceful and elegant colour count of Java. Mel Ahyar makes a very best collaboration between fashion and arts (yet again!). For her collection “Suvarnabhumi,” Mel decided to have collaboration with one of the renowned illustrator named Diela Maharani. We have seen her breakthrough collection once she worked with Yona Yu, illustrator for her Spring Summer 2014 collection “Les Marioettes”. What now? Diela gives a life into the theme by her eclectic style mixed with the vibrant patterns and colors that translated into a rich detailed bright illustration. Both Mel and Diela mix the concept of eclectic cultures and historical background. Mel tried to converse the acculturation of technique old tradition of hand embroideries and beadings with the modern technique of digital prints. Digital printed organdie then give a new textures and shape like durable paper stiffness with the embroidery
on its edged. It looks like we see 3D details as well on illustration that applied as details. This collection is presented in two main colour palettes, black and tan with the burst of vibrant colours. Talk about collaboration, designer Eddy Betty invited his partner Ley Sandjaja to present a well collaboration in a collection called “pele-mele”. In French, the theme of this can be defined as the concept of something or contrasting one to another. For this collection, Eddy combining different texture especially against the exploration of jeans. The impression of jeans that universal contrast toward hand-woven materials (from Sumba and Badui region). This integrated could be interesting. Hand-woven Sumba has a strong character, while Badui more modern as having the bright colour such as green, orange, blue and yellow stabillo. The collections are diverse from a blouse, jumpsuit, coat and long trousers and skirts. It gives the impression that casual, free and also relaxed. Do we spot the name of Oscar Lawalata? Yes, he has two presentations of collections this time. The first a collection that he had presented is “Timor” at the White Cube Stage. This collection is very thick shades of traditional touch and feminine. Then there is “I Am O” collections at Runway Stage; fashionable in simplicity. The utilization of typical
– 36 –
motives of Indonesia attached to the modern look as a tank top that and a blouse t-shirts, and a shirt. Oscar plays with plain and soft colours without many details. Very simple but chic. Through this collection, Oscar seems to send a message to any woman that you have to feel “confident” and be yourself. Everyone must be put a smile on the face at the end of the show when Oscar come out and appear with similar look to his model on runway. I hear ‘encore’ from the seat. All in all, designer Sebastian Gunawan closes the fashion festival with his impressive collection entitled “Melange des Senses” on Sunday, 26 October night. Inspired by the Danish painter Johan Laurentz, Sebastian Gunawan explores the characteristic of paintings and turns it into his clothing design. Using a dark colour as background, Gunawan made it contrast with the beauty of the details such as floral. The collection is a touch of couture and could be seen as well through the rose-shaped embroidery which applied over tulle, taffeta and lace. The details of embroidery are done very carefully, neat and beautiful. The collections dominated by midi dress, ball gown, mermaid dress with ruffle accents forming a ribbon at the waist or shoulder, and asymmetrical ruffle. This is a classical couture that impresses us much. Gunawan never made audience disappointed to attend his show. *

Men’s Fashion Week Jakarta
But I do believe that men can have style. Unfortunately, some of them cannot have fun like women do. They cannot accept changing trends easily. This happens because changeability might be seen far away from being ‘manly’ or could be girlish or ridiculous. Instead of trying out trends, men decide to choose to play ‘safe’ then; wearing their t-shirt and jeans or button-down shirt with dark trousers. They do not want to look stupid and take a risk that makes them visible and got mocked.
BY rai
Are men interested in fashion? Women might be interested in fashion, read style magazine and playing dress-up. How about men? It seems they are still afraid to leave their comfort zone.
In addition, some of us maybe still think that womenswear are allowed to be fabulous, exciting, gorgeous, ridiculous, breath-taking, desirable, and wonderful. While, menswear can only be two things; look weird or boring. Thus, it challenges menswear designers; how far can they go? “Because we believe men want (or need) change and have some fun with fashion as well. And this is the time to leave the conservative way and play with the shape and colours.”
– 42 –
Those optimistic points of view made some menswear designers feel confident to show their ideas and collections in Plaza Indonesia Men’s Fashion Week (PIMFW) 5th this year. Being held from 23 to 27 September 2014 at Function Hall Plaza Indonesia, 20 designers or brands take a chance. They are Samuel Wong (Singapore), Chris Jasler (Phillipina), Joe Chia (Malaysia), Bin House, Phillip Iswardono, Iwan Tirta Private Collection, Isis (Andrea Risyad, Amot Syamsuri Muda), Patrick Owen, Alleira, Rumours Fashion Group, Adamist (Indonesia), and some international menswear brands like Lacoste, Aigner, Brioni, Boss, Emporio Armani, Ben Sherman, Timberland, Columbia, and Ermenegildo Zegna. “I think, men need something new and reveal their character, no longer be afraid to try different look,” said Samuel Wong enthusiast. Bringing brand Evenodd, Wong presents his black and white dominant collections. At first glance, some people might say the collections look weird; especially for
leather crop top or short-skirt pants. “Nowadays, it’s common to have unisex apparel, men and women can wear it”, said Wong.
standing applause could be headed to Patrick Owen and ISIS. It’s a full seat shows and not to mention that some audiences have to stand and blocking the runway. Feel sorry for the photographer, but fortunately the shows are great and so do the collections.
It’s not only Wong that trying to convince men to leave their comfort zone. Wait till you see the explorations of jeans by Chris Jasler. With the brand Jailjeans, Chris shows the audiences of men’s fashion week that jeans no longer about denim with blue or black dominations. He plays blocking colours and creates it into variations look from red to yellow, blue, purple, and then pink! “It is weird”. A friend of mine comments spontaneously. It is, but takes a look a bit closer. Most of the jeans, even with the shocking colours, still give us the masculine look.
Owen, a young and talented Indonesian designer presents his bold prints and graphics collections. From maxi t-shirts, playful jackets and shorts, Owen seems trying to convince audiences that man supposed not to be afraid to play colours and have great bold prints apparel. After the show, men supposed to feel confident about wearing prints. With the same spirit of Owen, Andrea Risyad and Amot Syamsuri Muda, duo designers from ISIS, show their prints collections as well. Camouflage print with black background for top and pants, why not?
A well-known designer from Malaysia, Joe Chia plays ‘safe’. Without any details and too much colours, Joe is showing the collections that are dominated by black and white colour with loose and plain material; stretched into different options of vests, t-shirts, shirts, jackets and trousers. It’s memorable easy-breezy.
Last but not least, one of the brands which currently promising, The Goods Dept carries some wearable collections, not only because of their functions but also for the look. Among other things, you may not miss the t-shirt and shorts with star motifs, a purple-motif-jacket with hoodie, or the shirt that can be a mask covering the nose at once. A display that is indifferent but still fashionable.
Two batik brands, Alleira and Iwan Tirta Private Collections give other options. With the range of batik motifs and full colours, Alleira presents another idea about how to have a formal look with the batik style. They show us some suit and tuxedo batik and it might be this is the time to say bye to the old black ones. Meanwhile, you can have any kind of batik motif shirts and scarves from Iwan Tirta. Dare to play with batik and colours?
After all, maybe some of the shows presenting boring collections (imagine t-shirt and shorts, vest and tuxedo, or jacket and jumper) and yes, some of them are weird too (blocking colours, too many details, etc). But, some of them are not too bad. They are showing something weird but not too ridiculous.
Talking about the spirit of Indonesia, designers Phillip Iswardono takes a different way by showing his collections with traditional viscous shades. Phillip brought sarong, Indonesia’s tradition clothes as his main choice. At first glance it might look odd. But, do jeans when first worn also seeming not too fanciful, right? However, wearing sarong could be a second leap for men (especially for them who live in the big city like Jakarta) after dauntless wearing apparel with many details and colours. Or perhaps, Phillip has another plan.
And men might be needed to experiment a little more and caring more about how they look, the way the clothes fit and what they feel. They are supposed to leave their comfort zone and trying something new or a bit strange. Someone must be a trailblazer to break the stereotype. Changing the trends and convincing that changeability is not girlish, but human. Maybe, after that in a couple of years, men no longer feel shame to talk about fashion. *

Manicures are a girl’s best friend way before diamonds were. They make her happy, make her feel better and powerful – ordering people around feels much more fulfilling when you do it with a pointed index finger that is perfectly shaped and polished. The wonder world of groomed ladies fingers goes far beyond the square shapes with round corners and red color. From basic grooming with a classic coat of nail polish to beautiful and intricate
nail art, the manicure has become a fashion statement on its own, complete with trends and constantly altering designs. So far, manicures have always been a common guilty pleasure in Bali – there are many competitive places that offer a classic manicure and gel services with a wide variety of polish colors. But those crazy, gorgeous, arty, out-of-this-world nails, that will turn heads at the bar when you pick up your drink, are still something we could have only seen on celebrities’ photos and in our dreams. However, lucky we are – the dynamic creative duo behind THIS IS A LOVE SONG brings us Nail It! – The boutique nail bar that is going to help us fulfill all our manicure desires. A Nail It! Manicure is less about the cuticle clipping, nail filing, and hand massaging, and more
about the nail art. By the way, the basic classic grooming here is the cheapest on the island – only 110k with the NCLA polish, which not only has an awesome range of colors, but also rumoured to last longer without chipping. Stephanie – the mastermind behind this cute little spot is the passionate victim to the world of manicures herself, always sporting something wild and beautiful on her fingertips. So she decided to help us to go beyond the classic manicure and be more adventurous. From natural to faux treatments and a la carte polish and nail wraps – the limit to the nail design is only your imagination. If you want to leave the worries behind in regards to chipping and smudging for the next two weeks, plus have that moist “just did the nail polish” look – a coat of gel is
which is everything you can think of including 3D nail art on your acrylic nails. Both gel and acrylic removal for Nail It! work is free.
your best option. It can be plain or completed with decal stickers, airbrush nail art, foils, crystals – you name it! If you are after those mad pretty claws, that Rhianna and Gaga love to sport – choose acrylic extensions and don’t be shy about the length and shape. The hottest thing now is ‘stiletto nails’ – long, curved, animalistic tips sharpened to a point and painted bright colors or covered 3d nail art or embellishment.
screen one. If you’re lucky, you will meet Stephanie herself and she will tell you everything she knows about pimping up you fingertips – and she knows a lot! – and will help you choose what will suit you best. Nail It! aims to transcend and transform every aspect of the traditional manicure. As one of my best friends likes to say: “ Life is too short for boring hair” and this can be perfectly applied to manicures. Beautiful hands are every woman’s weapon – go crazy with it.
You’re going to love the Faux Packages menu - TIALS have always been quirky with the names they choose for every thing they create. Plain Jane (acrylic set with a plain colour), Arty Farty (acrylic set with gel nail art), Rolling Stones (acrylic set with rhinestones, crystal, caviar), Hoochie Mama 2D (ghetto acrylic nails that mixes all types of nail art such as stones, decals, piercing, airbrush) and Hoochie Mama 3D, – 45 –
If you’re dying to make your nails look like a piece of art, but not ready to commit to acryl or gel? Here comes the best (in my opinion) option from the Nail It! Menu – nail wraps. These are basically the stickers that you put on your nail, wrap you nail in it tightly and file off the excess. As a result, you’ve got the fanciest nails ever. Think galaxies on the surface of your nail, or mirror foil, or some celebrity face… (this one is kinda strange tho… :) The quality of the image design that you get with nail wraps is amazing, you can’t do that kind of thing with nail polish art – it is like digital fabrics printing compared to the silk

fashion HOROSCOPE Aries Today marks the start of an extraordinary 7 day alignment between the Sun and Venus, one that starts today in your relationship sector but will end in your financial sector. It’s now that the Sun’s reality checks and focus on ‘what is’ comes together with Venus’ desires and expectations and a sense of what can be. After the relationship journey you’ve been on this year and with Mercury still holding the door open to second chances, this is when it all starts coming together. Taurus Just as the Sun and Venus align in your work sector, beginning a 7 day alignment that will eventually end next week in your relationship sector, the Moon gets in on the act. It’s the Moon’s return to your work sector today that will ensure you have your finger on the pulse and ear to the ground, adding to the fact that you’ve already got your eyes, heart and mind on the same page, with a mix of foresight and hindsight to draw on. It’s time now to start bringing things home. Gemini As they draw closer to your work sector the Sun and Venus are making their final days in a fun, playful, romantic and creatively charged part of your chart count. While there is always a gradual slide from a more playful period to one where you need to have your work hat on at this time of year, this time around the change is going to be more abrupt. This brings a chance to prepare for the future, committed to finding and maintaining a balance between work and play. Cancer Right in the heart of some of the busiest days of the year an alignment between the Sun and Venus in your home and family sector brings the focus onto home and family matters. With both leaving in 2 days time this would have been the case anyway, but the difference their alignment makes is that the Sun’s reality checks and Venus’ desires and expectations are on the same page. This allows you to focus on ‘what is’, while also being able to see what could be.
Leo Today marks the start of an extraordinary 7 day alignment between the Sun and Venus, one that will see the Sun’s reality checks and Venus’ desires and expectations not only align but fight to take the lead. Beginning today in your communication sector this won’t end until both return to your home and family sector, where already preparations are being made. With Mercury in his final days in retrograde motion in your communication sector, this is a chance to give your heart, the past and the future a voice. Virgo The timing of the Moon’s return to your income sector couldn’t be better, returning with a nose for money just as the Sun and Venus, in their final day, move into alignment and just as Mercury’s final days in retrograde motion is bringing a smart head for money and 20/20 hindsight. The next few days are critical for income matters, more because everything is going to be obvious and laid out for you to see and to pick and choose from. Libra In the final days of your birthday month Venus catches up with the Moon, beginning a 7 day alignment that will see the planet of desire and attraction challenge for the lead. This is giving your heart a much louder and stronger say in defining your intentions for your new solar year and the journey ahead, but in a way that also allows you to keep your eyes open, head in the game and an intuitive edge that puts everything into perspective. Scorpio While the Sun and Venus are both moving through your sector of subconscious thinking, imagination and review, in the closing days of your old solar year they have very different objectives. Venus is taking your heart on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, while the Sun is wrapping up on your old solar year with realistic objectivity. This makes their alignment today and for the remainder of this old solar year especially empowering, with a chance to keep it real while still able to appreciate the wonder of the past.

Sagittarius In any circumstances the Sun and Venus’ alignment in a social and serendipitous part of your chart today would have created some serendipitous conditions, but even more so because this is the start of a 7 days alignment that will hold until after both leave. With the Sun focused on the more practical aspects of personal and professional networking and Venus on triggering the laws of attraction expect fate to be working overtime, working to put you in the right place at the right time. Capricorn While a huge amount of water has passed under the bridge over the last 11 months, as the Sun and Venus align in your career sector everything is going to seem to come together, in one last push to bring things home. It’s not just that the Sun’s objectivity and Venus’ professional desires and expectations come together today, but the fact that your professional instincts will also merge with a mix of intellectual savvy and hindsight. All of a sudden you’re able to see where you’ve been and where you’re going. Aquarius There is a bit of a false sense of escapism in the air today, that belies just how dramatically the professional pace is set to pick up in just a few days time. Yet while a sense of wanderlust, curiosity and adventure in the air today is making it hard to remain focused and is encouraging you to play hooky, it’s a chance to focus on the big picture. Once the pendulum swings to a more professionally charged reality you’ll be kicking yourself that you didn’t take the chance you have now. Pisces While a 7 days alignment between the Sun and Venus won’t end in your financial sector this is where it starts today and with both in their final days, this is a chance to put your reality checks, desires and expectations on the same page. This comes just as the Moon’s return will sharpen your financial instincts and while Mercury’s final days in retrograde motion is bringing a smart head for money and 20/20 hindsight. All of a sudden everything is coming together and starting to make sense.

ALONG CAME A CARPENTER – INDONESIA’s NEW PRESIDENT
BY Elroy JaXson
Indonesia has a fresh President, affectionately known as Jokowi. In this writer’s opinion, it was the first time since the Independence of Indonesia, which was sworn in 3 months after the ‘Fall of the Reichstag’ in 1945, that Democracy took its course the way it was supposed to. The Power of the People, had won against the stigma of past Military dictatorships and the control of the ruling Elite. A simple man from a humble village background, who owned a reputable and fair furniture company, has just taken the reigns of the largest Muslim nation in the world, via Rock n’ Roll and the country’s fishermen. Indeed, times are changing. Joko Widodo is seen as a similar figure to Obama, interestingly enough the ‘marketing’ team who served in the Obama camp during his election campaign, so to had some members on Jokowi’s election trail. This months official TIME magazine depicts a somber yet wise looking Jokowi portrait, among the
resonating title, ‘A New Hope’. This was swiftly followed with further public-created satirical covers of TIME, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ quite fittingly Prabowo on the cover and ultimately ended with ‘Return of the Jedi’ and the future Gov of Jakarta, Mr. Ahok on the cover. Of course these are amusing prophecies of a future that might well be, or just the Photoshop renderings of a happy voters procrastination at the computer during his lunch break. The latter seems to be more convincing. Nonetheless, it was an interesting parody the country seemed to revel in. Let them. The people deserve a good laugh, seeing as there was no realistic outcome that Prabowo would ever lose. Allah forbid that the status quo of the ruling military ‘strong-man’ would be blindsided by an individual with little riches and a simpleton background. His competition was a brute, and the General had it in the bag. Prabowo had a roller-coaster of an election trail which resulted in a convincing loss and also a very odd, quite embarrassing music video that depicted an imbecile celebrity dressed in what seemed to be an SS uniform, holding the nations Symbolic Crest of Garuda above is head; eerily the video seemed like a NAZI propaganda campaign. To add more utter moronic behavior

acted by these paid musicians, they sang an election song to the tune of Queens ‘We Will Rock You’… without permission. Suffice to say the video was ridiculed on the global stage and YouTube – under strict copyright infringement from Queen – pulled the clip. It has now become a mythical unicorn, without any magic and a carrot as the horn (I intend no offence to unicorns or vegetarians). You can only watch it to believe the arrogance and nonsense this video represents. Prabowo, the main Lt. General in charge of the annexation of East Timor and its genocide in 1976, also led the military into Papua in 1996 and further human rights violations under the Suharto regime. Adding even more colorful credentials to his already ‘Sith Lord’ worthy reputation, he incited the 1998 riots against the Chinese in Jakarta. What a charming man. But enough of Jabba the Hut, we’re here to discuss the revolution of the humble Jedi. As Mayor of Surakarta from 2005, Jokowi implemented western business dealings in the Solo regency, which was positively hailed on a national level. He literally advanced the infrastructure and delivered to the ‘common’ folk easier access to health and fair trade facilities. After 7 years as Mayor, Jokowi was sworn in as the Governor of Jakarta in 2012. This was a period

of positive growth, as he again implemented his own strategy with the poor and less fortunate communities of Jakarta by walking with them, together in the slums of Jakarta, listening to their concerns and understanding their tears of frustration. He and his Padawan apprentice Mr. Ahok, shook the political world by being transparent in their decisions and even going so far as to - wait for it - publicly show their salary and recording all of their meetings and uploading them onto YouTube. Reasons? To battle internal corruption. What Insanity! How on earth could these two upstarts manage to shake the very foundations of a ‘corrupt’ cabinet? By openly addressing their stature and being a pure servant of the people. This is why those in politics decided to become Politicians, to serve the people. It was such a fresh approach, so… Human. Being a self-professed Metal Head, Jokowi was given a bass guitar
signed by Metallica – which was taken away from him, seen as a bribe – and also listens to Zeppelin, Lamb of God and Napalm Death. The Indonesian band Navicula supported his campaign for free and Sting as well as other international celebrities showed their support on Twitter and social media. Jokowi has stated Maritime growth and Tourism are his priorities; somewhere there will also be discussions of the Palm Oil industry to be regulated. His VP Yusuf Kallah is at the helm for a second time, a staunch but moderate Muslim who has stated in the past, “I would like to see marijuana come back into our Sumatran cuisine,” only adds to the cabinets positive influence it will have for Indonesia. More than 400,000 thousand supporters showed up for his electoral speech in Senayan stadium earlier this year in Jakarta. There was not one single bit of rubbish in sight afterwards. Zero. Jokowi and Kallah

have a tough job ahead of them, yet there doesn’t seem to be anyone else more suited for the task. Is Jokowi the ‘New Hope’? For now, Yes. It’s going to be an interesting 5 years; hopefully he doesn’t succumb to the Dark Side. But so far, everything has been impressive. Very Impressive. Well done Joko Widodo, we salute you Mr. President. Merdeka!
