editor’s note A question that was going around my head the last days! Can truly fashion considered as an art form or is just a worldwide, successful and hard industry? They’re many and different answers about that question. Especially, they are 2 “armies” the one that believes that fashion is just clothing, a sinister busyness with many immoral and unhealthy problems, and the other one that sponsor that fashion can have an original art form! And the truth is that both sides got their points! For example, the first thing that it comes to people minds when they hear the world “fashion” is beautiful or not anorexic models, expensive and fascinating clothes, shoes and accessories, magazines, photo-shootings, runways, parties and general a fan “glamorous thing”. And we can’t deny that fashion isn’t like that or that the main point of that “glamorous thing” isn’t a way to makes us want more and more, makes as want all this luxury, all this way of leaving, makes us shopaholics with no taste, nothing of what we buy and if we like what we buy, unstoppable trend followers! With their only reason - Money-. And of course we can’t blame fashion industry about making money but we can blame the fake glamorous overdose on the media and the victims of that trap (fashion victims + shopaholics). That’s the one side of the coin, the side that in most known and maybe the side that we mostly see, or want to see! But as everything in this life, fashion has another side too, a more artistic one and I believe especially from young and unknown designers! Clothes that have been inspired from art pieces like paintings, and we can’t forget the Haute Couture collection of YSL at 1965 inspired by Mondrian! Who can deny that the dresses of that collection are not a piece of art! Also clothes with the purpose to sent a messenger even that is an ecological or an antiwar or an ironic one for our way of life, the way our society is! Then Haute Couture! A period of handmade beautiful and unique dresses! Thinking of that and seeing the definitions of art “The products of human creativity. The creation of beautiful or significant things. A superior skill that you can learn by study and practice and observation.” We can say that they are quiet relevant to all the above! So my opinion about the whole “fashion art war” is somewhere in the middle! Both sides exist. Maybe the worst one is bigger and stronger but there is also the light and original one. The thing is which one do you chose to follow! I would like to clarify, I didn’t blame fashion industry for making money! hehe Xxx FAUVE

PROFILE
Ibu Martha Tilaar From Nada to Prada by KATIE Ibu Martha Tilaar is not just any business woman, she is a philanthropist, a communicator and a woman. Ibu Martha’s dream was to beautify Indonesian woman by using the natural resources of her country to help preserve through science that ancient knowledge. She studied with Shamans, worked with scientists, got a few big breaks, made is through some difficult times; Now she is one of the most powerful women in Indonesian culture. Though, her power is passive and it is her heart that speaks with gentle kindness. What started as a young girls dream has become a multi-brand conglomerate Cosmetic and Beauty Range that appeals not just to the rich, but all levels of society. This was Ibu Martha’s dream. Why are you so passionate about cosmetics? Actually I am a tomboy. I went to school as a teacher first. My mother said, “You look so bad. You have to make yourself look better. Or your students might be afraid of you”. It was because I liked to swim and my hair needed treatment from the chlorine. So, she took me to her friend who was so beautiful. It inspired me to be like her. What does beauty mean to you? I want to preserve my culture in beauty. That is different from the philosophy of the west and east. The west believes everyone is born beautiful, but you have to know how to make yourself beautiful. In our country, beauty is an expression of the inner and outer beauty. The philosophy of the expression of inner and outer beauty, in Sanskrit, is Rupasampat Wahyabiantara. It’s a holistic approach. That’s why we drink Jamu, use make up and also take supplements.
12
How do you express your inner beauty? Just smile. It’s simple. Positive thinking. Tell me about when you left Indonesia to go with your husband to the United States? I was very poor at that time. We stayed in a military barracks in Bloomington, Indiana. It was very simple. I put an advertising of a coconut tree, an Indonesian house, and a mickey mouse with the words, “I am a teacher. Would like to babysit your children while you are at work or at university. Please call me.” Suddenly, I had 13 kids, small and big. I was used to children. What happened when you finished the scholarship and returned to Jakarta? How did you start your business? I had a big dream. I told my family I wanted to use natural resources of Indonesia to beautify the Indonesian woman and the world. My
dad said, “That’s a big dream. How much money do you have?’ I said, “I don’t have”. [Chuckles] SO I have to sell everything. My family helped me in the spirit of Gotong Royong, an Indonesian phrase for working together. I needed 2,500 dollars to start. My sister gave me 30%, brother gave me 10%, and my father gave me 30%. We started very small in a 4 X 6 meter salon. It was a garage. We have air condition, hot and cold water, and a generator. Even though it was small, we had what we needed. We used all of our products from the states at that time. I had to do a promotion, but I had no money. I called the newspaper boy who goes to the embassies. I wrote down on a advertisement, “I am an American licensed beautician. Would like to serve you. Please call me.” Serving them was very important to them at that time. I knew this. It was 1970, at that time, no one had the credentials I had and could speak English. What was the turning point with your business success? The location was near the embassies at that time and all the foreign ministers wives came. We were growing so fast. It was spreading by word of mouth. I went to my dad and asked him if we could use the entire house as a salon and live in the garage. So, we did for 6 months. I know you have a Martha Tilaar School, and focus a lot of your attention on supporting Indonesian women. Can you talk about why it is so important to you. It is something I have been doing since I first opened my business. At night I would train young girls in beauty. There were so many maids at that time, but they were unskilled labor. I had to teach them. Later on in my life, I met a Indonesian girl, when I was in a Hong Kong airport. She yelled out to me. I was a bit scared because she looked so thin and sick. She told me “I was 16 years old when my parents sell me into sexual slavery and prostitution.” They wanted to sell her because she was beautiful. After 6 years, at the age I met her, she had contracted HIV AIDS. So, they threw her away. So, I could not get her out of my mind. Until a friend said to me, “We have a spa product. Why don’t we open a franchise? So we can train all the girls from the rural areas, free of charge. We now train 4,200 young girls from all over Indonesia, from the poorest areas. We work with the government now to help us find the girls who need help. In the past, we had people who went in to find them. We believe in beautifying women, so we have to beautify their soul, their mind, their heart. What does the Martha Tilaar brand symbolize? It is to give products that represent the identity of the eastern women, with our natural resources, based on our climate, on what we eat and so on. We live in the subtropical. I cannot use the same product from the West in the East. You get a lot of pimples because it is oil-based. For us, it is water-based. All the ingredients include rice, honey, lemon, lime. When I start getting back to basics, I ask, “Do you want to use my natural cosmetics?” They said, “You cannot put food on my face”. My aim is to use the natural ingredients, holistic, to beautify the woman. I was using the local wisdom with global. Everyone thought I was a crazy woman. I went down into the village with my grandmother; she lived till 107 years old. We studied with the shamans, healers, and traditional medicine men on ways to preserve the body and keep it healthy. How did you take that information and make it useful? When one shaman dies, a library burns. Our habit was to share by word of mouth. Not like the Chinese who wrote everything down [TCM]. The idea from a professor I had read was, if you are can glocalize [glocalization] beauty products. There is something unique about that. We can now say that we are experts in Asian skin and exotic Asian colors. What brands do you have now? We have 9 brands. I wanted to be consistent about what my dream was. However, there isn’t only one type of Indonesian woman. There is the rich, middle, and low. So I have to cover everyone’s needs. Champaka is for low, Mirabella, Sari Ayu, Biokos, and Pac is the newest.
Where do you produce everything and what is different about the way you produce your products? We use all the local wisdom. We do a lot of research. For example, for whitening the skin, we use Langsat fruit, it’s a fruit found in Kalimantan. It’s very rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. We use this as a whitening agent. We use all natural ingredients, so we have to understand what it inside of them. Its not longer about listening to our ancestors, and what they say is right. We explore each natural ingredient through a scientific testing process. We sent our scientists to Holland. Because they occupied us for so many years, they know a lot about our natural resources. We looked into the areas of their research in ethnobotany, the species of plants and their benefits, and medical anthropology. We have such a wide range of species that we have to invest a lot of money in technology; equipment to tell us what is inside of these plants and how we can use them for beauty products. You cannot say to a customer, “My ancestors say that this is good for that.” No. Cannot. [Chuckles] I got everything from the indigenous people and I write it down and I tested it scientifically. What were you greatest challenges to overcome? How did you handle the difficulties that came your way? They don’t recognize women. Our culture is patriarchal. If I want to get a loan from the bank, it’s very difficult. That is why I had to take a partner. We were very lucky to joined with a very famous pharmacy company in Indonesia. We separated in 1990 because they wanted to sell. Then there was an economic crisis, so no one could buy American products, they were five times the normal price. Everyone looked at my shop and said it was so cheap compared. They did brand-switching. Everyone was down, but my sales went 400 percent up. 67 percent of companies were closing at that time. I prayed to god that I wouldn’t have to close up. Our company was 70% women. I would have been devastated. It was a lot of responsibility. I felt I had to do something. So, we created a lipstick from the indigenous people of Sumatra. I asked a local batik woman what the main color of the area was. It was yellow and red. So I made a lipstick of gold and red. It was 2 lipstick colors in 1 lipstick mold. The sales were huge and helped us through the economic crisis. In 1995, we struggled to get our products out there. No one really believed in Indonesian products. They wouldn’t let us rent out space in the malls. They were all selling western products. People believed it wasn’t as good as western products. I said to the man, “So, you will become a slave in your own country. You have to fight for me. You are Indonesian, but you are a slave.” He didn’t like that one. So, he said, “OK, I will fight for you.” The evolution of your Cosmetics brand is truly inspiring, what would you say to young Indonesian women struggling to find their own power and independence in an increasingly competitive world? We give beauty classes and we teach the philosophy for inner and outer beauty. How to fast, we teach about the goddess Dewi Saraswati. The women have four hands, while the man has two. The first hand, the women has to have strong faith, the second hand the women has to communicate positively, friendly, clearly. The third hand, you have to educate yourself, you must go to school. The fourth hand is a lotus, symbolizing that the women must be strong in happiness or sorrow. What is your next big project? We are building a Museum in the village where I was born. It is to motivate the younger generation of that rural area. It is the story of my life, my family, my career from small to big. The idea is share, “If I can do it, why can’t you?” What do you think of Fauve Magazine? It is my first time looking at it. It’s really a very modern magazine. It’s really lifestyle. And at the heart of it, its Asian influenced. Its wonderful. www.pacbeauty.com

ANTI FASHION
Modeling & Anorexia
BY KATIE The truth of the matter is that 20 years ago Fashion Models used to weight 8% less than the average woman. Today, they’re weight is 23% less than the average woman. Just look at Fashion TV, all you see is skin and bone. The fact is that most runway models meet the body mass index for anorexia. What we don’t openly talk about is that a certain sample size has been set by the industry. If you want to keep working, well, you’re going to have to go hungry. The days of Cindy Crawford and Beverly Johnson are over. Ranging between a size 4-6 during their career, they would now be considered a plus size model. Plus Size models have now shrunk from size 12-18 to a size 6-14. Supermodel Tyra Banks has been speaking out for the industry to change their ways. In her open letter to Vogue she wrote, “…if I was just starting to model at age 17 in 2012, I could not have had the career that I did. I would’ve been considered too heavy. In my time, the average model’s size was a four or six. Today you are expected to be a size zero. When I started out, I didn’t know such a size even existed.” Why is skinny so attractive? I don’t have any answer for it. Other than it is the cultural norm today that was set by the industry. It doesn’t feel like there is much we can do about it. I’m a model. I chose to do this. Therefore, I have to cow tow to it if I want to keep working. It’s pretty simple. However, I don’t have to fall prey to images of “thin-spiration”. Heroin Chic. Kate Moss and company who made it popular, the billboards, magazines ads, photographic “art” are now littered with images of rail thin beauties. A lot of what I’ve seen in images isn’t actually that beautiful to me. How many times I see models in the flesh, proverbially speaking, who embody nothing of that photographic promise. It’s all about the picture. But, the picture is just an illusion of beauty. It isn’t what actually is. It’s about creating reality, but keeping it illusive from the majority. This isn’t surprising. Photography and fashion have joined to create a new genre. It has become about artistic endeavor, capturing that which goes unseen in the world we walk in. Artistic endeavor has always been controversial, and more often than not, elitist. It’s our own doing. We have given it power. Anything that has power has either taken it from the meek or been given it by those who felt diminutive. Its not our job to empower what may or may not be false, but to see it for what it is, appreciate its beauty if there is any, not attach too much value to it, and move on appreciating and loving and finding ourselves beautiful just as we are.
20
I have from a good source, Kate Moss, would go heavy on the cocaine before a big shoot as to fulfill the waif promise. I’d say a heavy coke habit would get the job done. When I was working in Jakarta, I would be on shoot with a Russian model who only ate about half a gram of shredded carrots. Apparently, that’s a full meal. As a working model, I hear all the stories of extremism that comes out of Hong Kong agencies. It’s like a cavalry of Eastern European girls. They are measured every week. If they are a centimeter plus, they are done, out, fired. Pretty radical. Modeling history has certainly undergone change. Sure there was the waif. But, at least people are starting to appreciate different sizes of beauty. Look at Doutzen Kroes and Kate Upton who bodies are different than the industry norm. The latest star to break the mold has been Lara Stone. Though, even she admits to insecurity when surrounded by an entire industry of skeletons. “Most of it”, when Vogue asked her what part of her body she wasn’t keen on. Calvin Klein has named her the face of the brand. It’s a smart move. Every time I see a perfectly thin girl, with perfectly perk tits, wearing the perfect clothes, well, I think one would lose hope on it. Now put in a gorgeous woman who has a semi-relatable body and you might sell more underwear. You might be surprised that by showing a beautiful woman who looks halfway healthy, that the image might actually empower the female set of society by their realization, “Hey, I can look good in that too”. And, they subsequently, buy your shit. That’s all I’m saying. I’m going back to my frozen yogurt. What up.
HEALTH BY VERONICA Overlooked by the beauty routines, your feet also deserve some attention. The difference between the overall image of the feet and who cares about them, does speak for itself, especially in warm places where they are more exposed. Most men do not realize, but dry feet or with long-dirty nails is not a nice reference when attracting the opposite sex. After hands and teeth, the feet are the next thing I look at a man... And I confess that more than once I missed a Prince Charming with black feet! Most of us are not aware of the role they play in our health and wellbeing, but several elements affect this body part. DRYNESS: Affecting very often, especially when using open shoes. Extreme dryness can cause cracked heels. Banana: crush a ripe banana and apply on your heels. Leave it on for 15 minutes and remove with warm water. Lemon: squeeze a lemon and apply with a cloth on heels and leave on for 10 minutes. Hydrates heels and helps heal and disinfect the cracks. Maximum hydration mask: 1 very ripe avocado + 1/2 plain yogurt. Mix the ingredients and apply on the feet. Cover each foot with a plastic bag to keep warm. After 20 minutes, rinse the feet with water and apply a moisturizer with particular emphasis on hard and rough areas, give yourself a massage on the sole and the contour of the ankle. Extreme softness: Soak your feet for 10 minutes in a hot water bath where you have added 1/2w cup of apple cider vinegar. After drying, apply a good dose of almond oil.
22
SWELLING AND FATIGUE: If your job requires you to spend many hours sitting or standing, this is another uncomfortable inconvenience. A general rule to prevent swelling of the feet is to avoid excess of salt, alcohol and coffee, as they cause fluid retention. Walking barefoot: On the sand or fresh grass (better wet) is a real cure for your foot health, tones muscles and joints streamlines improving blood circulation. Other simple exercises: Walking on heels or tiptoe, jump rope, try to pick up objects with your feet and doing ankle rotations. If you work sitting, feet always placed on a box or something similar about 10 cm high. Tired & Aching Feet Bath: 1 handful of each - chamomile + pennyroyal + mint + bay + 2 l of water + 1 pinch of baking soda Boil the water, remove from heat and add the herbs. Let stand, strain the liquid and add the baking soda. Add hot water in a bucket with the mixture to make a foot bath for few minutes. FUNGUS: In places where there is excessive moisture, it is necessary to avoid, and sometimes treat, fungi that can affect the toenails. Daily, you should wash well your feet and dry thoroughly to remove all moisture. Try to wear slippers at the pools and public showers. When do the pedicure, cut nails straight across to prevent sticking into the skin and possible infections. Water and Vinegar: Place in 1 liter container of warm water a glass of apple cider vinegar. Soak feet in the mixture for 20 minutes, twice a day. Dry carefully.
Garlic: Add a clove of minced garlic to a bottle of clear nail polish, 7 drops of lemon and 3 dropt of white iodine. Leave to stand for one week and a apply a layer daily for two weeks just on infected nails. Essence Tea Tree and Lavender: Apply directly on affected area at least three times a day. CORNS & CALLUSES: Often, are caused by overuse or inappropriate footwear and heels. There are some measures you can take to reduce them: After a hot foot bath, rub calluses with lemon juice or castor oil. Eat food rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin E combined with a diet of whole grains. Avoid fats, fried foods, sugar and alcohol. Eliminate red meat from your diet, caffeine, chocolate and soft drinks. BUNIONS: Applying ice to the area of the bunion can calm inflammation and pain, also walking barefoot. Hot baths with salt are also recommended to reduce inflammation and ease pain. ODOR: Great enemy of your feet (and romantic evenings ...). Causes include the presence of fungi or bacteria, sweat, altered nervous system, hormonal imbalances, medications or metabolic problems. If you wear socks, use natural fibers.
Herbal bath. At night, wash your feet with an infusion made from medicinal plants (Sage, Horsetail, Thyme, Walnut, etc.) Boil 2 liters of water and add 4 tablespoons of the herb mixture. Let boil for a minute and rest for 10 minutes with lid. Strain and add 2 tablespoons of sea salt or baking soda. If you add few drops of lemon and peppermint oil to the water, you will be protected by a natural deodorant. Soak your feet for a few minutes and then dry well. Chlorophyll (liquid or tablet) also has a “deodorant” effect on your body. Too much salt, meats and animal fats, alcohol and coffee hinder the elimination of toxins. A diet rich in fiber such as fruits, sprouts and vegetables (especially salads) is recommended. Bali Zen Garden suggests you a couple of recipes to help you take care of your feet from the inside: Relaxed Feet Juice: Beet + Carrot + Cucumber. Take it every three days for cleansing your kidneys and restore acid-base balance. Coleslaw Salad: White & Red Cabbage thinly sliced + Shredded Carrot + Nuts + Raisins + Yogurt Vinaigrette. This fresh salad contains lots of Vitamin A & E, that will help your feet to keep at bay the calluses and bad smell. balizengarden@gmail.com

GOSSIP
by SHANti
Bali has been getting hot lately, and I don’t just mean temperature-wise. You, yes you. I know what you’ve been up to. You don’t think that driving to the bukit for your weekend tryst, or cleaning up the white powdery mess means that word doesn’t get around? I know. I know everything. Anyway, I’m already over it, let’s move on.
And there is a certain model around town, yes from Russia, who may or may not have a bun in the oven- she is with child. She’s not saying anything until she’s a few more months along, but keep a look-out and you may notice a little something coming along. And judging by the dad, that’s going to be one good-looking baby!
A new photographer-model in town from Sydney was known to be courting the attention of nearly everyone he could manage. We know for a fact that he was planning to have a shoot run in a certain Seminyak mag, but when he was denied by first the editor, then the photographer intern, in blunt fashion, he withdrew from the publication with only days to go until the deadline. Good thing they got an even better photoshoot. Baby, it’s suppose to work the other way around- they want to sleep with you and you do so to get your photoshoot published, not throw a hissy fit when you don’t get boned! No one owes you anything!
We heard there has been some model drama going on in Jakarta as well! You see, when a model outgrows Bali, she goes next to Jakarta next. And the agent in charge check out Jakarta and brings a certain brunette Aussie with her, well, sparks do fly.
Anyway, so the Japanese Gym Freak with Ibu Make-Up, skinny Mongolian and the Chee-A-3 were all hanging out late one night, and decided to play a game of Black Jack. Everyone started taking it off… Gym Freak and the Mongolian were the first ones naked, then everyone else followed. Everyone was straight though, so the Mongolian got to watch as everyone got in the pool and started going after it. The Indonesia MC Doom, you know who he is, just broke up with his boyfriend, the Australian senator. I can’t name any names, but I know he was kind of heartbroken afterwards. It’s hard for a senator in the closet to find a good man! You think you have it bad? You have no idea!. “Choux, Andie, dis-moi oui! Cheri…” Did Romeo find his Juliette? Will a new saga start? Will they write a chapter? Well, we’re not sure if he will or not, but he’s certainly not going to kill himself for her. I even think he won’t, and he may or may not have something going with one of his co-workers…
Oh! And beware ladies! Remember, whoever you’re dating at the moment could very easily be your next EX-boyfriend or girlfriend. I have a dear friend, Polish-American, who lent money to a now ex-boyfriend, and since then he has gone back to Melbourne, and was recently spotted at a Spa with his new girlfriend! Ladies, remember, no naked photos and no lending money! It is for you own good, I love you and I want the best. If you must, buy them clothes, sex toys, dinner and send them bikini photos. Besides, then they can show the photos to their mates and then there is the added bonus of flirting with your bf’s bff. Makes for great sex, trust. And what’s with all these little pre surfer boys running around for the Oakley Pro thing? I know more than few twenty-somethings who have hooked up with teenagers, even a few with underage girlfriends! If you ever needed proof that women get better with age, there it is. Why take a baby-fat angel face when you can have a proper woman? These little tykes have it figured out. Ok that’s all for this month, my loves, keep it freaky and don’t forget to email me if you have anything else to shareshanti.says@gmail.com. I’ll tell everyone. I promise.

MAGALI PASCAL bourgeois-bohem’ Designer by JULHENRY Amazing Designer, Magali Pascal was born and raised in France. Fashion was always her passion and does it successfully! Lucky for all of us, Magali brought in Indonesia the Parisian Casual-Chic Elegance that all women love to wear. I had the pleasure of meeting Magali at METIS and this is what transpired.
Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What’s your educational background?
Where do you get your inspiration?
I grew up in ‘’Moret sur loing’’ a small historic town near Paris, also known to be the home town of the famous ‘’impressionist’’ painter Alfred Sysley. It’s a place where every summer music and art festival are organized, so in a way I grew up amongst it.
Travelling is probably the most inspiriting part of the creative process. While traveling I always look for the vintage adress, ‘’the retro detail’’, last season for example I was inspired by some 50 s bathing suits i found during a trip to Tokyo, and this was the ‘’key start’’ of the whole collection. Blogs are also very inspiring.
Why Bali?
Who are some of your favorite designers?
I was still at school when I first came to Bali. I was studying fashion in Paris and during my holidays I followed a group of friends that had just started their own label. It was sort of ‘’Intership’’ where I developed patterns and designs and enjoyed the experience of the island’s life style. I was only 20 years old and I knew I was going to go back.
I’ve been a Fan of Isabel Marant since she started about 15 years ago in Paris , she has now gone international. I love the ‘’casual chic’’ of her pieces and the fact she always follows her own inspiration rather then the current fashion movement.... Also, as a Parisian girl I love Lanvin and Chanel for the ‘’sophisticated, timeless chic pieces.
When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
What are your favorite colors to work with and why?
I always loved visuals and aesthetic. At shcool I was studying textile design, photography and arts , but that was when I met Irish fashion Designer Sharon Waushob in my last year before my diploma that I knew fashion was going to be my way. I spent 6 months in her Parisian ‘’atelier’’ learning everything from concept to realization, from technical drawing to patterns and prototypes, all the way to the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week. Where did u study & get graduated as fashion designer? I studied at ENSAD (Ecole National Superieure des Arts Decoratifs de Paris) for 5 years, where I learned general Art skills, and I specialized into fashion design the last 2 years. What does fashion mean to you? Fashion is for me an aesthetic that reflects a personality and an attitude, it translates a certain emotion.
I like ‘’all’’ the colors and I use all of them, just depending on the mood I want to give to a collection. Last season for my summer range ‘’Candy color’’, I used a palette of Pastel colors that evoke the 50’s era. Tell me about the process of sketching a design. To create a collection it first starts with finding its ‘’concept’’, its ‘’theme ‘’. Again, for me, this can be inspired by a picture, a feeling or a garment itself. Then I create what we call a ‘’mood board’’ with all kind of visuals related to this theme and from there I start sketching. The collection is usually divided into different ‘’families’’ inside the same theme. How would you define your personal style? I don’t shop much in Bali so I get to wear my own pieces a lot. Magali Pascal pieces are inspired by the ‘’parisian bourgeois-bohem’’, chic pieces, wearable from day to night. What do you think about Fauve magazine and blog?
What matters to you most as a fashion designer? To follow your own feelings.
First I like the idea of an ’’online’’ fashion magazine, Fauve publishes very personal interesting articles and cool photography. Now, I also love the organic recycle paper used for the print version. Finally Bali goes green ! :) www.magalipascal.com 27

SPIRITUALITY
karma KONVERSATIONS The 21st Century Goddess: Is she meant to reign alone? Part 1
by SWATHIMAA
A new season—and, hey, almost a new year—is upon us. If you put any stock, as I do, in the thoroughly misunderstood Mayan calendar, we’re surely looking at a New Age, as well. It’s only right, on this eve of eves, to wisely curl up on a comfy couch together and start our ruminations with the most searing question of our times: Do strong, successful, independent women need to become lesbians to find true love? I’ll go first. Note to Reader: This may sound like girl talk but boys, if you have half a brain, you’ll listen, too. We’ve all been there: Instead of a night of infinite possibilities, Girls Night Out too often turns into a huddled group examination of individual successes and (mostly) disastrous failures with the opposite sex. The conundrum, ladies, is that, as thoroughly fabulous as we are, we still find ourselves painfully unsatisfied down below and up above, in a word, ‘Single’. As ambitious modern women, we rightfully pursue dynamic careers, testing the limits of our internal clocks in order to fulfill our manifest destinies instead of opting for early motherhood. But, why should this automatically mean perpetual singlehood and a stream of short-lived, unfulfilling relationships? Whether it’s at the workplace, the bar, or the bedroom, one of the most common reactions by men—to who & what we are—is this: being ‘fabulous’ actually means we’re too strong and too intimidating. Unsurprisingly, we find these men, most men, too weak. Maybe it’s all in the translation. Women want real (strong) men and men want real (beautiful but submissive) women. So, how on earth do we meet, match, and marry?
36
feel more deeply and also gain power more quickly. And, we’re more beautiful. I don’t mean just better looking. We’re more beautiful. And, that’s the way God made us. By what means, you ask? Our womb. Through it, we create and nurture new life. We endure tremendous pain in the process, yet are willing to and capable of doing it again. And, we’ll protect that life with our dying breath. And, do it while loving a man and running a corporation and a household. Is it too much to ask to rule the world and French kiss…a lot…before exchanging our little black dress for maternity clothes? I think not. Spiritually speaking, we’re actually eight times stronger than our male counterparts. The energy we gain, for example, from meditating for 1 hour, takes a man 1 day of meditation to receive. Our secret? We are sacred symbols of Mother Divine, in human form. And, she is the Shakti (the power) of God. No wonder guys feel intimidated. But, they don’t have to. Men have their place. And, it’s not just to carry our bags or the 3 to 7 minutes, if we’re lucky, that they take helping us perpetuate our race. When a man and woman make love (translate: actually have sex, swap bodily fluids), something unique happens to each. We get half the man’s soul power. While we as women gain power quickly, we also lose our power quickly. Case in point: PMS. Men, on the other hand, are energetically—and I don’t know how to put this more diplomatically—thick as posts. They gain their power much more slowly. But, they hold it. When men and women make love, women gain the ability to hold their power longer and, therefore, we become stronger and stronger more quickly. Literally, for us, the Divine is the limit.
Ironically, the Dalai Lama gave us a ‘real man’s’ endorsement, proclaiming, ”The world will be saved by the Western woman.” This wise and humble visionary let the whole world know, unequivocally, that our strength is utterly required and aligned with the future of our planet. So, is the Dalai Lama the only real man around?
The lads get something extraordinary too, over-and-above the pleasure of being with a gorgeous, incredibly hot goddess. Our power, ladies, is infinite. And, our lover gets a taste of it, a direct experience of infinity. Then, one of two things usually occurs: he gets a healing (translate: he falls asleep); or he’s invigorated (translate: he runs off to be with his friends or goes and gets a beer). If he had enough presence of mind—and knew a few spiritual practices—he could hold that infinity and do unbelievable things with it (translate: be the man we know he could be). But, the best some guys can do is stay and snuggle for a while.
Let’s face it, his proclamation pushes men off their pedestals of power. Maybe they think they face a bleak future as submissive servants to female masters, running our households while we’re busy saving the world. Seriously? The idea of a subservient man at home ain’t appealing to any chicks I know. We want a great man, dammit! It’s time to revise this.
Let me segue here. We’ve all heard the saying, ‘Behind every great man is a great woman’. Clearly, women no longer feel satisfied in the shadow of their men. We’ve outgrown the kitchen and standing demurely behind the thrown. It’s been a hard-fought but natural evolution. Our newly claimed power doesn’t disturb the natural order of things. So, what’s our alternative, the next step?
First, we need to understand where our power actually comes from.
We stand side-by-side.
No disrespect to the Women’s Rights Movement but the fact is, women are, by nature, stronger than men. Obviously, I’m not talking musculature here. We have greater endurance, stamina, flexibility, intuition, sensitivity, compassion, and willpower. We
Next month, over coffee and scones, we’ll discuss exactly how this is done. For now, take time to revel in your divinity, girls! swathimaa@omshivaloka.com
NATALIE’s Art of Body the new Pole Fit studio
by RACHEL
Forget everything you think you know about pole ‘dancing’, put aside the fear and any thoughts of Demi Moore, pole fitness is a whole new game for girls of all ages to play. Nick Cave commented on it recently at the Ubud Writer’s Festival, saying its days of being associated with anything subversive have gone, it is now a workout routine.
“Pole fitness is for everyone, in fact our studio has a zero tolerance for any form of judgment, no one person is more suitable than another to experience the joy of learning pole fitness. We ask that our clients wear shorts and bare feet, simple tops that allow for freedom of movement; there are no fancy requirements at all.
Do you remember hanging with your girlfriends, around a tree, a washing line hoist, a lamppost and just feeling the urge to wrap an arm around and then fly loose? Pole fitness promises to bring that joy of freedom back, with the girlish pleasure we have of being with other female friends. And who remembers the nights you had more fun dancing at home getting ready to go out that actually being out..well that is the pole fitness idea, be yourself, dance, express, and free yourself.
Of course this is something derived from the clubs but has since been discovered as a great way to get fit, it’s a sassy, fun way to do it.”
Natalie Kashani has brought the Pole Fit concept to Bali and tells us how this all came about and what we need to do, actually very little, to become part of the new culture of core-strong, self assured and confident women who are taking it upon themselves to gain everything good from being a ‘girl’. The first thing is that pole fitness is not about being overtly sexual, it is about being sensual, using your body to interact with the pole in ways that develop both inner strength and confidence, and letting that guide you to an appreciation of your own ability to move with grace and elegance in routines that encourage you to develop a sense of sensuality as you move. Not necessarily for the show, but for the self, to expand your sense of who you are in your physical energy and your own appreciation of your femininity. “There are just so many ways of being sexy, it’s not about the high heels, our classes are done in bare feet, sexy can be shy, can be bold, can be agile or angular. The pole fitness routines are quite acrobatic, you learn a lot about balancing your upper and core strengths. At first we do warm ups, you don’t jump straight on to a pole. We walk and move to rhythms that work out the entire body, and only when you are warmed up do you start to interact with the pole. At first this will mean learning to hold it in the correct way, to turn without slipping, to balance yourself around and across the pole. It can be very liberating as the stability of the pole allows for freedom of movement and with this comes that extra boost of confidence. It is like having the perfect dancing partner, supporting and yet not controlling.”
38
So how did Natalie meet her first pole? Living in Canada she had an apartment next to a pole dancing studio and having grown up attending Performing Art High School and always a dancer she had to give it a try…and fell in love! So opening the first Pole Fitness Studio in Bali is bringing her love to a place she loves. On Jalan Mertanandi, above the photographic gallery Toast, she has installed seven poles for different styled classes. There are pole workshops that are regular classes that build up the knowledge of pole work over time, these are suitable for the absolute beginner and the more experienced. There are ‘drop in’ classes for people visiting the island and those that wish to see how they feel about the pole. There are also Bridal Pole Parties for brides to be and their friends to celebrate in a fun safe and sexy environment, there are even tapas served and in fact you don’t need to have a bride-to-be to have a pole party. Natalie also holds classes without poles that strengthen the core called Goddess Bootcamps and Pre-natal classes, again no poles involved, that are designed specifically for pregnant women who want to keep limber and strong during their pregnancy. A range of clothing for workout is also available from the studio that is set to open very soon, this November. Classes have already been filling up through the web site , so visit www.theartofbody.com or email ns@ theartofbody.com to make a pre-booking. So grab your place on the poles ladies, it is time to begin!

ZEN GARDEN Take a breather
by PURNa
Are you thinking about improving your health regime these days? Or, are you one of the concerned and conscious green travelers who are proactive in implementing eco tourism by choosing fresh and organic yet still tasty foods with cozy ambience that will make you feel like home?
oil and when it is necessary they chose extra virgin olive oil for salad’s dressings. They avoid using creams, flowers, and artificial flavors. They also provide small references to explain and to help you be aware of the nutritious benefits from what you eat and drink for your mind and body.
Conveniently located at Jln. Mertanadi 46 Seminyak, approximately 500 meters from the Kerobokan road, with an attention grabbing pink becak ( a traditional public transportation that are still very common in Java) when you first enter the parking space and a very eye catchy combination of green and pink Buddha which represents fresh nature, love and peace, Zen Garden is a perfect option for thoughtful and health - conscious culinary lovers who also crave for a little garden retreat amidst the hectic life of Seminyak.
For a vigorous starter of the day, the Japanese touch of Miso Soup with mushroom and leek or tofu and daikon rich with antioxidant which is essential for our immune system is worth mentioning.
From the outside, I bet you will have a second thought to enter as the door is more appropriate in a normal house than a typical restaurant entrance but keep on moving and you will understand why I called it a little garden retreat. Passing through the main casual inside and outside breakfast and lunch area, you will be pampered by a cute little garden allowing breezes to give calming effect at your stay while at the same times will cool you down even when you simply sit at the colonial designed seating or the comfy bean bags in the garden, sipping your favorite tea when enjoying the conversation with your company, reading the latest international and local English magazine collections, or enjoying the free Wi-Fi while listening to soothing and relaxing music selections and overviewing the mini swimming pool available for everyone and kids who opt for swimming or chilling out. The owner Rudy and Veronica are passionate and adventurous food lovers who meticulously and enthusiastically developed a restaurant with the concept of combining organic foods, laidback atmosphere, and contemporary, minimalist interior design with a glimpse of cosmopolitan touch for those who long for healthy lifestyles, comfort, and novelty. As two dynamic partners who value the importance of embracing change, they indulge their loyal customers with new ingredients and flavors every day. In addition to that, to add a personal touch, they are creatively and directly involved in the food making processes by predominantly incorporating their French and Spanish recipe heritage with the Indonesian flavor. All the foods and drinks are fresh and unprocessed. Most of the vegetables and fruits are produced locally and their juices are pure without water, ice and sugar. They use minimum
During the hot day, a presentation of oriental beef salad served with tender teriyaki slices of beef, thin cucumber and tomatoes bathed in a mix of Asian herbs and spices vinaigrette also deserves your attention. There are also a la cart salads for both vegetarian and non vegetarian. The juice lovers may try Tropical Tornado which is a combination of orange, melon, pineapple, and kiwi. This juice is rich with vitamin C to kick start your day. The bromelain and enzymes of pineapple are perfect to heal your stomach and the melon will restore your energy level. They even have Those Days, a mix of carrot and broccoli which are an excellent source of magnesium and beta – carotene to strengthen your organism the days prior to menstruation, dedicated only for women in their ultra sensitive moments. The tea addicts will be indulged with worldwide tea selections from Srilanka, South Africa, Nepal, Argentina, Russia, England, and Indonesia. They have herbal, bio, and private world selection teas namely the renowned Roobois which is a great antioxidant, Bio Liquorice tea which that stimulates our celebral faculties, and Masala an ayurvedic tea recipe that will awake your senses. Before leaving, savoring home baked gluten free cakes or strawberry and blubbery parfait is truly perfection. And every Wednesday and Friday, from 2 – 5 pm, when you need a spiritual insight about your career or knotty relationships, thought provoking tarot cards reading will be a recommended alternative for your enlightenment. It only serves breakfast and lunch from Monday till Saturday at 9 am – 5 pm and last but not least, a day time at Zen Garden is a smart move and an ideal quick escape to recharge and revive your energy. Gaile Far from sweet
by julhenry International Model, Gaile was born in Macau and raised in San Francisco . She is no stranger to the Fashion Industry, cover’s magazines, catwalk, commercials TV, movies and she’s doing it amazingly. When Gaile effortlessly executes that killer strut like a sartorial superhero while approaching a photographer’s cameras, make no mistake: the pro is not phoning it !!!
When did you start modeling? I started modeling at 14.. I was walking down the street and was scouted by two Italian photographers who asked if I wanted to do a fashion editorial shoot for them.. I did the job and they later introduced me to a modeling agency in San Francisco and that’s how it all began... So what made you decide to make it a full time job? In the beginning I was only planning to model part time as I was still in school.. It more for petty spending cash and for fun... But my agent back then just came back from Hong Kong and looked me in the eye and told me that I must go and try the Asian market, so I did for a summer and haven’t stopped since then. What do you think of this Fashion World? Fashion is a form of art! The body is like a canvas and allows an individual to express themselves freely everytime... What misconception do people have of modeling? That they don’t eat.. Well we do! At least all the ones I know... It’s also pretty hard to say how models act or behave as there are so many type of personalities in general, but one thing is for sure! I know that models are creative and very independent. They are like a sponge and you can throw them anywhere in the world and they will adapt and survive... A tough cookie!! Do you have a favorite moment from your career? I love every good and bad moments in modeling because of the experience.. I’m always learning from when it’s bad and loving it when I’m meeting new and interesting people all over the world... Its inspiring and I believe this is definitely one of the benefactor of working in the fashion world..
What is your Fashion Industry survival secret? Beauty only goes so far in this industry, but its charisma, being professional and the way you treat others that defines you... Trust me! No ones like a Diva!! This industry is always going up and down so you never know who will become someone someday or someone that becomes a no one one day... Have fun, enjoy and treat others the way u would want to be treated and that is the survival to life itself. What’s your go-to designer statement piece in your closet? I have about 20 pieces of vintage dresses which I collected since I first started modeling. They range from $15 to $1500 .. They are colorful, fun and from different time periods.. I love every piece even tho I can’t fit into some of them anymore, still they are my most precious items in my closet. Before coming to Bali, you have traveled the world and worked for many designers. Who have you worked for? I’ve worked with brands like Shiseido, Folli Follie, De Beers, American Eagle Outfitters, Etc... What inspired me the most was working with Vivienne Tam, she is absolute fabulous...A woman who would’nt give up on her dreams and made it big in a tough market.. We are now friends and she still gives me pointer everyone I see her.. Xoxo All that traveling and spending your days on the set can be very tiring, what is it that you do to unwind? I turn off my phone and give myself a little break from the world.. Take a bath, listen to music, cook or just lay there and do nothing.. It’s always nice to give time to yourself without disturbance and when you feel charged.. Well your phone is still there! If you could describe yourself in 5 words, which words would it be? Fun, fun, fun, fun and fun! ;)

OMUNITY PROJECT ECO-TOURISM VILLAGE
BY VERONICA The lack of opportunities in the country side is very often emptying small villages in many countries in Asia. Young people do not find studying opportunities and work possibilities and move to the big cities. There, their lives are not better, many times even worse, but coming back to their origins is not easy without a future perspective. Sudaji in north Bali, the home village of OMUNITY project, was having the same problem. Balinese has been an example of harmony and spirituality based on the nature respect and consciousness. This is one of the main pillars of their culture and beliefs. Due to the quick tourism development, many of these traditions and culture elements are dangerously disappearing in the villages. The impact and influence of tourism and technologies is too strong, and many young people forget to keep their family customs they have practiced during many hundreds of years. This also can be a very bad impact in the near future in the tourism industry of the island itself, destroying the magic of Bali and becoming like any other touristic spot in the world. Following a desired vision that Zanzan had about his village for many years, he founded in 2010 OMUNITY project. He also was an emigrant himself; he had to leave his village to be able to get education and a decent job when he was very young. His own experience on the tourism industry brought him the idea of a sustainable project: human vs. environment & traditions vs. modernity. OMUNITY is an example of efforts focused on the preservation of culture and traditions in order to improve the future of the community and its members. These are the ongoing and near future projects of OMUNITY project: • Sudaji as a Eco-tourism village • Organic farming of rice cooperative • Community cooperative for projects to develop the infrastructures of the village (main project future Junior High School construction) • Woman project for Weaving Cooperative (using organic materials) • Implementation of plan for control of wastes and plastics • Bio gas from the wastes kitchen program (using organic wastes to generate gas for cooking) • Organic brown sugar cooperative (creating OMUNITY brand to sale) • Yoga platform project in the middle of the rice fields. 56
Returning to basics - what their ancestors understood and practiced, they seek to educate and inform both locals and visitors to bridge the gap between environmental concerns and human interests through practical education and sustainable community events involvement. Living in Harmony Finally, the preservation of village traditions is of paramount importance to this community. Organic farming has always been the Sudaji way. Actually, the word “Sudaji” in Sanskrit means “holy” or “ancient” knowledge; this is what they would like to share with the world. When visitors arrive to OMNITY Bali (Om + Community in Bali) they are “living with” and “amongst” the community and local people of Sudaji. They get to experience first-hand real Balinese people and culture participating in daily life as part of the community. They will also get involved in their community ongoing projects, as well as deeper knowledge of the future ones. Ideally, the visitors of OMUNITY will take with them this message and apply to their own life once back home. The harmony with nature, the social and economical development following a balanced pattern, all soaked with the spirituality that allows us to take time enough to be conscious of our actions (something already forgotten in our western culture). OMUNITY wants also to get the visitor’s perspective and advices letting them the opportunity to ask and suggest during the meetings with the members involved in each project. By returning to traditional values and practices they help in restoring the earth to a point before chemicals threatened our existence. A world without plastic, dangerous chemicals and fertilizers. www.omunitybali.com

YAZ everything comes from ONE secret BY KAYCSIE “All painting is always an invention. Artists make decisions that build on one another until they reach something new”, Yaz Fromonesecret. Founded in 2009, one of the most leading and contemporary gallery in Bali. Yaz’s invention has more like Hip Hop and Underground culture to catch all the visitors attention and he is taking his success to another level in Europe this year.
hurrying the process only working longer hours. Yes, we have a lot of project with the gallery called From 1 secret , we are working on internet website so that we can expose and share our work to the rest of the world , and we are opening soon in Paris , with a lot more coming but i can t really tell you right now, it will be a surprise...
What brought you to Bali? What was your profession before painting? Have you always been in painting?
I’ve heard that you have just completed a decor for The Circus, one of the top restaurant and bar in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Well, a few years back I was working in Finance over in Paris but I was already into painting since I was a child experimenting different stuff with my little pencils box... A while ago I went to see an exhibition of Gauguin and I have to say that really inspired me to move around the world and also to start doing a few exhibitions in galeries all over Paris. And Bali was on my path so I followed it... How would you describe your art work? What inspires you?
Yes it was incredible to be in this beautiful place in Malaysia, with a lot of work involved i must say but we are very happy to have put the best of us in this project.
It’s quite hard to describe what you create specially in Art , it s a mix of everything in your life , all your fears , all your joys. Everything inspired an Artist, What you see, people you met, but I totally understand that you have to ask me this question so I’m gonna try to honored it , so I m not sure I d call it inspiration really, more like a drive. I just get this urge in me to create something, so I paint, and take some photography in every amazing places that I visit. As for why I paint a certain subject, mainly ideas pop into my head, either that or see an amazing picture and I want to customize it.
What do you like to do during the free time? During my free time, I really like to travel in Indonesia a lot, not just Bali. Indonesia is such fabulous destination to visit, it has so many beautiful spots waiting to be discovered still. Which is your favorite restaurant in Bali? I have 2 favorite places in this Island, that are Metis and The W. They do have fine food. It is not just about the food, it is the services, reception and the assistance are consistent. The best in Bali. Have you read any of Fauve issues? What do you think?
How much time do you spend on creating a sculpture? Are you planning expand your work in future?
Yes, I have. I think the format is perfect, it keeps the magazine fresh and fun!
I enjoy the process of creating so I never get bored. The works can take months, even years, so I need to appreciate the process as much as the finished piece. Its meditative and cyclical, thought when there are lots of shows on it can get very stressful, as there s no way of
Any suggestions for the Fauve magazine? No, not at the moment. Keep up the good work! :) www.from1secret.com 63

Aries Now that you’re experiencing a turnaround and an improvement on the professional front, this is a good time to look at your professional image and look. This is less about dressing to impress and more about making the kind of impression that works for you. With Venus, planet of beauty spending her first full week in your work sector, your sense of style, especially when it comes to your work wardrobe, is likely to be spot on.
Libra This is a day for listening to your imagination and letting your daydreams run wild, as the Moon and Venus align in an intuitive and imaginative part of your chart. With your heart and instincts not only on the same page, but both having direct access to your intuitive centre, this gives you a chance to look beyond the facts and the obvious, to something deeper. Letting your daydreams flow will allow you to tap into your creative centre.
Taurus It was just a couple weeks ago that Saturn left your work sector, after a particularly tough 3 year visit, but you’re also likely to feel that the demands on your time and energy have eased back dramatically. While the Sun is staying on to ensure you don’t lose your momentum, it’s an alignment between the Moon and Venus in a playful, fun and romantic part of your chart that reveals just how easy it now is to find a balance between work and play.
Scorpio As the Moon and Venus align in a social and serendipitous part of your chart this brings the laws of attraction and synchronicity, which were already in effect, to a whole new level of intensity. It’s the Moon’s presence that gives you the intuitive edge to pick up on the subtle clues and hunches that have the power to put you in the right place at the right time, setting the scene for some serendipitous moments or encounters.
Gemini As you move into the closing months of the year life is starting to diversify and lose a lot of its pressure, especially if you have the right balance. Right now the stars are focused on your relationships, work, play and home and family life and so long as you’re putting the same amount of eggs in each basket, you’ll find that things flow a lot more smoothly. Even if things get out of balance you’ll soon feel it and find it relatively easy to fix.
Sagittarius An alignment between the Moon and Venus in your career sector puts your professional instincts and desires on the same page, at a point where it’s time to start wrapping things up and putting things on the path you want them to continue on. When Venus leaves your career sector at the end of the month there’ll be no more planetary activity until mid 2013, making this a time for narrowing down your targets, with listening to your heart and instincts essential.
Cancer Despite the fact that you are now in the early days of a busy new phase on the work front and you’re likely to be driven and motivated, this is being balanced by even more powerful forces in a romantic, creative and playful part of your chart. With heart and instincts on the same page today you’re able to negotiate, either with others or with yourself, to get the right balance between work and play. This is something that needs to be an ongoing mission.
Capricorn An alignment between the Moon and Venus in an adventurous part of your chart comes at the perfect time, for had it come even a week ago it would have lost its impact and would have had to battle against overwhelming professional forces and a sense of wanderlust and a desire for adventure would have been quashed. Yet a week on the professional focus has dialled back considerably and you may even have a chance to answer the call of the wild, daring to follow your heart and your imagination.
Leo Any short term financial pressure caused by the Moon’s return to your income sector yesterday has not only eased back, but transforms today to a stunning advantage. As the Moon and Venus align in your income sector for the only time this year, this gives you a chance to put your desires and instincts on the same page, getting a sense of what’s possible. This is likely to bring a new sense of confidence and a new sense of resolve. Virgo While your birthday month ended last month, until Venus leaves your sign at the end of the month there is a need to keep your mind and your options open. With the Moon and Venus aligned in your sign your heart and instincts are on the same page, making it important not to over think things or to stick rigidly to choices or decisions you’ve already committed to. As you learn more you’ve got to be ready to adapt your game plan.

Aquarius While the Moon and Venus align once a month, somewhere in your chart, their alignment this week in your financial sector is the only one here all year and is also the last time the Moon will align with any planet here, until mid 2013. As well as putting your financial instincts and desires on the same page, this gives you the intuitive edge to make what is a wrapping up time on the financial front count, giving you a clear sense of your priorities moving forward. Pisces An alignment between the Moon and Venus, planet of love, in your relationship sector makes this a special month for both putting your relationships first and for getting to grips with what you really want from your relationships and what they need from you. With your heart and emotions on the same page the truth will prevail, making this a month that is less about over thinking and more about feeling, trusting both your heart and instincts.

BEAUTY
Make-up 101 with YEANNE SEALED WITH A KISS Special thanks to Tini
Moisturise lips with Vaseline to avoid dry looking and chapped lips.
Apply concealer Cover All Mix over your lips contour and soften it out. It is necessary for a long lasting result but also to define your lips. Fixate your concealer with loose powder.
Apply lipliner, choose a darker color than your actual lipcolor. The edge of the lippencil should always be on the inner side of the lip. So the rest of the pencil leans over the lip and not on your skin, this is how you get a perfect line. Correct your lipcontour with the pencil. Enlarge it or make it smaller where needed for an even mouth. Make sure that your lips four part are even.
Apply China Red Lipstick, from the edges of the lip pencil and inward towards the opening of the mouth and make sure the lipstick and lippencil blend smoothly.
Finish with your favourite lipgloss. Apply over your whole lips and especially in the middle lips. The lipgloss makes your lips look larger since it reflects the light.
