FCE Project Bulletin Foundation for Cross Cultural Education PO BOX 126, Wolseley, 6830, SOUTH AFRICA TEL: +27 (0)23 2310 208 E MAIL: info@fce.org.za WEB: www.fce.org.za The Foundation for Cross-Cultural Education (FCE) was established in 1991 and is called to make disciples of Jesus Christ by means of education and training. It is an international, non-denominational, and nonprofit making Christian organisation.
“The content of our training is to ‘know Christ’ and the practical implementation of our training is ‘to live Christ.” All training is missions focused and its aim is: to lead people to the person Jesus Christ, to a relationship which is not characterized by religious rituals and keeping of laws, but a life grounded in Him, to make them followers of Jesus Christ, to encourage them to make a difference where they live and work, by sharing Jesus Christ, to give them skills which can be used to bring transformation to their communities.
FCE cannot function in isolation and it is because of the wider body of Christ that we are able to be effective. As we respond to God’s leading and to the task of transforming communities we are continually faced with new needs and challenges. We cannot do it alone. I invite you to join us, to be a part of this journey of salvation, restoration and transformation. That may involve joining with us physically, prayerfully and financially. It may involve mobilising others to do the same. Whatever the case: it is a journey and I want to invite you to walk with us. Just like you, we know there is a world full of hurt and bondage out there. We can make the difference. Let’s do it! This Project Bulletin highlights some of the urgent projects in which we are currently involved .

PROJECT : COMMUNITY TRAINING CENTRE, KOTI NI EDEN, ZAMBIA
The schooling of children in rural areas has been neglected for many years. Because of economic hardships and a scarcity of schools, many children are unable to receive even a basic education. In order to provide schooling for children in remote areas, FCE initiated a community based project where parents assist with the building of a Community Training Centre, consisting of classrooms and other facilities. FCE in turn provides training material and teachers. More than 160 children are presently receiving excellent training because of this joint venture. Another 250 children are involved in child stimulation programmes, preparing them for school. Most children that attend the CTC have a poor diet. Hunger is a reality for them. A feeding programme has been initiated to see that there is adequate nourishment for the children. At the moment FCE is committed to provide one meal a day during the hungry season, December to May. This school also needs to become a model school for our teacher training college, which is within walking distance from the school. This would make life so much easier for our lecturers and student teachers, who often have to travel far for their periods of practical teaching.
Our CTC at Koti ni Eden, Zambia, is in urgent need of at least 2 more classrooms and an ablution block. The staff of the school also needs to have proper housing, as most of them are married and have children of their own. FCE is looking for partners who can help with this immense task. A church group from Australia helped FCE to build 8 classrooms. There is need for a further 2 classrooms. The ablution blocks also need to be completed, as well as housing for the staff. To feed a child monthly (1 meal/day): ZAR80 /US$10

PROJECT : TRAINING CENTRE, KALUNGU, ZAMBIA
Near the northern-most border of Zambia, close to Tanzania, God has in 2000 given FCE a beautiful piece of land next to the Kalungu River. This place has been developed into a haven of rest for weary travellers, with a lovely camping site, bungalows and also a training / conference centre.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The training that takes place includes discipleship-missionary training and agricultural training. FCE workers are involved in the community with child stimulation, agricultural guidance, primary health care and building projects. All of this takes place because of the great need for people to be able to help themselves, and not to remain dependent on hand-outs from outsiders. The need for a proper school for the staff children is urgent. For the moment, 3 classrooms as well as an ablution block would suffice. There is also a big need for an additional staff house. A vegetable garden has been established and the vision is to develop this not just to feed the FCE staff, but to have surplus, to add value by processing the vegetables, and to generate funds for the running or the whole training centre. The idea is that these gardens will also serve as an example and an incentive for the local people to grow a variety of vegetables for their own consumption.

WHAT ABOUT AN
FCE has 2 types of outreaches:
OUT Reach?
Exposure Outreach (+- 4 days). The aim of this outreach is to be exposed to the work of the Lord in and through FCE, and to experience the realities of cross-cultural mission work. During this short outreach, you might identify a project in which you would like to become involved. Project Outreach: Through the years, we have experienced that God’s people want to become involved and contribute to His work in some way or another. We are very blessed by these outreaches, as people are really taking a big load off our shoulders. We are encouraged when the work is completed so much quicker than we could have done it ourselves. These people are also exposed to the many different activities at our training centres.
Possible Projects to choose from:
Community school and training centreNeedlecraft Health Agriculture Building Kitchen Carpentry Electricity Maintenance (e.g. service of vehicles)
We are aware of the fact that it is already a big expense to come to us in Africa. Therefore we appreciate your contribution towards a specific project so much more. An outreach usually starts months ahead of time – praying, planning and motivating others to become involved. Except for choosing a specific project, the team will also be exposed to other activities at the training centre, for example:
Jesus film
Children's’ ministry Meals in a village
Needlecraft Prayer in the villages Visiting literacy programmes
Sleep-over in a village

to follow when organising an outreach:
Contact the Training Centre office either in Wolseley (SA) or Masaiti (Zambia). The office will send you a questionnaire as well as a document explaining exactly how FCE outreaches are organised. The contact person will fill in the questionnaire and send it back to the office. Send a copy to the Zambian office, as all outreaches are co-ordinated from there. (jannielise@zamtel.zm) The Training Centre leader or head of department in co-operation with Jannie Compion, will do a detailed project proposal and send it to the contact person. The co-ordinator will contact you to finalise the outreach and to answer any questions you might have. 3 weeks before the outreach: FCE co-ordinator will send a summary of all the information regarding the specific group to the contact person. He/she should make sure that any changes be clearly communicated. 2 weeks before outreach: Contact person sends list of names and passport numbers and final information back to FCE. This information must also be sent to the Wolseley office. (admin1@fce.org.za). We trust that no changes will be made after this communication!
