JACK JOHNSON IN BETWEEN DREAMS
DIGIPAK ANALYSIS
This is the front cover for the folk/indie solo singer Jack Johnson. Conventionally many indie bands/musicians often don’t include a ‘perfect’ portrait of themselves on the front cover as they want their indie style music to be portrayed to the audience. In comparison the majority of pop genre albums often have a full on portrait of the singer on the front as it is a typical convention for them to have. There is an obvious colour scheme of black and yellow throughout the digipak. As they have edited an original image to create a silhouette of Jack Johnson by a tree. Yellow and black are contrasting colours, so it makes the image stand out well against the background. There is also vital information given on this front cover, being that this is a Special Edition of his album and there are also the bonus tracks added. This is to draw the audience in so it is more likely that they will buy this.
This is the inside of the digipak and the first two pages of the insert within the digipak. You can see that the colour scheme of yellow and black has been carried though as yellow is the predominant colour. There isn’t much text within the digipak itself, as they have placed extra information within the insert, such as song lyrics and exclusive images that fans can appreciate. They have placed the insert within the white triangle so that it is easily viable and accessible for the buyer. They have carried through one style of typography throughout which helps tie all the aesthetics together. Also having a picture of the artist combined with the rough handwriting photo in the insert allows the audience to feel connected to the singer and enjoy the digipak to its fullest.
