MAGAZINE THE POWER OF READERSHIP MAGAZINES! up by 0.9 crores - IRS Q1 2019 AS THE SUPERHERO All media is growing, and Print continues to grow despite the general belief that Print is declining. Readership is largely influenced by two things - literacy level and your disposable income. If you have money, then only will you buy a newspaper. Luckily in India, both those things have moved upwards. Ashish Bhasin, CEO - Greater South and Chairman & CEO - India, Dentsu Aegis Network and Chairman, MRUC I am very happy that Print is growing across all languages, and that Print titles in Digital are doing well too. The Print industry in India is still robust and effective, unlike in the Western world. Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands, India What is disappointing is the fact that niche publications that serve an important segment have consistently been ignored. A different methodology must be used to ensure correct findings for such publications, but sadly both Neilsen and the MRUC Technical Committee have so far not done this. Hormusji Cama, CEO, Mumbai Samachar I am happy to see that Print numbers are growing because it also proves the point that everything is not wrong with Print, and Digital is not the only way to go forward. It justifies the argument that Print has an established sort of acceptance. Indranil Roy, CEO, Outlook Group
PRINT IS GROWING No. of additional readers added since IRS 2017 Dailies - 1.8 crores Magazines - 0.9 crores Total number of Print Readers - 42.5 crores
Magazine Advertising actually works! INCREASE WITH 38 MILLION NEW READERS.
EDITOR’S NOTE Stay in, stay safe! COVID-19 is absolutely the biggest news story of our time and there is no denying it. The pandemic is affecting everything that we can think of - economy, health and our social lives. And our role as journalists is not only to bring you reliable & trustworth news but also to keep you occupied and engaged while you are stuck at homes, during these exceptionally challenging times. I realised that working remotely was difficult for us, not because I missed my super-coordinated team (thanks to technology like zoom, we are well connected), but meeting deadlines and other approvals took a toll on us. Yes, we have decided to remove a few sections such as travel and spaces that features hotels and destinations at this time, and added more stories on decor ideas to keep you busy and stimulated during this home bound time. adding pastels, to ways with terrazzo, and doing up your kids room; it should give you enough revamp and re-do ideas. Finally I am cautiously optimistic that this hard time will pass soon, but in the meantime while we are in the midst of protecting our physical selves from this virus, let us also endevour to protect our mental health. So, my advice, try to take a day off from all work and enjoy some quality me-time. Call on old friends and say sorry for not being in touch. Relish good meals and sleep a lot. Immerse yourself in a book or get on that DIY project, that your office work has kept you away from. Or you can always, like our stylist Yukti Kasera, dance your heart out on your favourite numbers. Be it helps her stay sane!

a great experience
An avid reader since 2015, I simply enjoy every page that TIHG The Luxurious Black presents. Each page spells reality – the life size images, the smooth and well-written text, above all the language and the tone talks about how in simple ways you can do beautiful things to your house. I also like the food pages very much. As a family we are Thirteen glorious years and still going strong. TIHG as foodies a magazine always shows us the way through sections and love to eat at different restaurants. I would like to like Shopping Pages, Special Features, TIHG Decor, see more articles with regards to restaurants across InColour of The Month, and other articles. As an interior dia, mostly from tier II and tier III cities. India has some of designer, and a big fan of TIHG, I am keen to see more the best food culture and we are keen to explore new articles related to home decoration and decor tips. Also, food culture always. please if possible feature more homes that have beautiful interiors and are visually appealing. I also like gardenrashmi pathare, Mumbai ing so it would be nice to see articles on greens. namrata bhatija, Pune Colours Are In

a green World Its time to buid a green future. Time to start implementing green ideas. And all this can be achieved by growing plants and vegetables in the small gardens in your backyard. I have been reading TIHG since the past two years and I must confess that the magazine is a real crusader of greens. It is perhaps the only magazine that cares for the environment and thinks about the future. Each one of us can make a difference by growing plants at home or by keeping small pots in corners. It truly is time to think for a certain change. A change for the future generations. muthuraj nadar, Tamil Nadu
home vision We all dream about building a dream home. A home that has all the comforts of a modern dwelling. TIHG helps us realise those dreams by showcasing some of the most beautiful homes from across the world. However, I believe a dream home is a place where there is enough space for movement, less cluttered and has enough coves for natural sunlight to penetrate. Whether it is a big house or a small home, it is important to keep the surroundings inside and outside clean and vibrant. Taran gogoi, Assam The Ideal Home and Garden April 2020 |

Behind The Design
Kritika Soni, Designer/Artist, Kara Sabi
Kara Sabi is all about... Finding and appreciating beauty in imperfection and reflecting that idea through handcrafted ceramics. It draws from the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi that believes that nothing can ever be perfect, permanent or complete; and that the process of ageing enriches the experience of life, rather than diminishes its quality of life.
I wish to remind everyone to appreciate and acknowledge natural ageing and inconsistencies; to not see it as a flaw, rather cherish it and embrace the imperfections in their daily lives. I aim for my designs to be thoughtful and provocative and to be sort of an antidote for the standerdised mass produced items available. Kara Sabi collection includes wall decor (installations), sculptures, tableware. I draw inspiration from... The changes nature brings along with it in its course of time. I am drawn to architectural ruins, weathered walls, fading wood, broken or chipped edges, peeling paint and anything that bears the mark of time. What it once was and what remains today is what really excites me the most and I try to explore that space in my work.
Design to me... A culmination of personality, functionality and aesthetics. A good design should be purposeful experiential (be able to evoke an emotion in a person) and at the same time reflect who you are as a person.
What I’ve always loved about my work... The creative space for imagination and experimentation, the tactility of the material, a perfect combination of technical skill and intuition and the fact that because clay comes from the earth, it has a way of keeping you grounded and humble.
Through my designs...
I’m currently working on...
Setting up my own studio (I was working out of a community studio until recently) and simultaneously doing up interior décor for an upcoming café. Agenda for Kara Sabi in near future... take up more projects for doing décor for residential and commercial spaces. Marketing strategy... Social media presence works as a great platform in creating key exposure for Kara Sabi. I keep posting new works on Instagram. Harnessing the power of social media is not only cost effective but it also enables to reach a bigger, global audience. (karasabi.com)

ust because it's not a room in transitional sense, doesn't mean it should be neglected. The hallway is the first thing you or your guests see when they enter your house, so it is actually the first space that decides the tone and vibe of the rest of the home. According to Yovnne Purcell, its a good idea to spruce it up a little with some clever ways to make it look like an essential part of your home and not just a pathway into your house.
Style File
-Colours Are Good A coat of paint will brighten up any dark hallway and with so many bright and cheerful paint options, you don't really ned to stick to whites. You can also brighten up your hallway by using graphic wallpaper with vertical stripes or use removable wall paper or peel and stick wallpaper and decals. An easy way out is hanging a wall art and using this space for a gallery wall or a picture ledge shelf for your favourite art or family portraits. -Expand With Mirror Another good idea is to use a large mirror which not only reflects light but also gives
the illusion of space, especially in small spaces. -Get Floored Putting down a bright mat or a runner can define the space and make it feel instantly warmer. -The Fifth Wall Another thing you can do to brighten an entrance hallway is to paint the ceiling in a contrasting colour to the walls or you can go a step further by wallpapering the ceiling. -Add A Little Something If you have the space, simple storage is a great idea for shoes, boots and schools bags to keep bedrooms tidy and will give your hallway another purpose. You can use a storage bench or if you have a narrow hall there's some great wall mounted storage available to keep the floor free of clutter. Use a narrow console in your hall to display trinkets and mementos. Keep coats in the closet and display hats and pretty tote bags on hooks or coat racks. TIHG

Briefly explain your designs and brand. Animals and nature have always been a passion for me since I was a child. By creating detailed animal portraits and giving them individual expressions, I want to spread more empathy for animals. Most people that live in cities tend to lose some of their connection to nature. I have therefore developed a brand with interior decoration and gift items decorated with my designs to try and re-establish our bond. What is it about animals that inspires you? Animals are fascinating in so many different ways and we have a lot to learn from them. We live in our human societies and tend to forget our own natural instincts. Living in artificially created surroundings we do not spend as much time in nature as we actually need. By paying attention to animals, decorating with them and having them around we can live a little closer to nature. What materials do you use for your art and how challenging/easy is it to work with? My preferred media at this point is graphite drawing. Somewhere in the motif I add a little colour, using pastel, coloured pencils, water colour or airbrush. This way I have a black and white drawing with a special twist. I love it. I always use top quality materials and acid free art paper for longevity. It is also easier to work with and the result gets so much better. I spend 1-3 months on each drawing putting in a lot of detail. Researching before starting the first sketches is important to create the effects I am looking for. My biggest challenge is finding time for everything.
What is the biggest trend in design for 2020? I think that the trend is to produce high quality products that last and can change hands. The "wear and tear" mentality is loosing ground. We are moving away from artificial materials such as plastic and taking better care of the environment with sustainable productions. What are your future plans in relation to your inspiring work ? I like to see individuality everywhere. I want to develop my work towards more animals, threatened animals but also vegetation, plants and flowers. I want to produce more art, more products and more books with my themes showing nature and animals in a way that is inspiring, positive and decorative. I am also looking for more collaborations with environmental organizations and companies for sustainable development in the world. What is design to you ? Making every day objects that are easy to use, beautiful to look at, good quality and inspiring. *The Team met her at the Ambiente Fai

MAKING INDIAN CRAFTS SHINE! Exquisitely closing the gap between Indian artisans and craftsmen, and the interior market, Fanusta is here to reinvigorate the Indian crafts space.
anusta, is a brand that is named on two fundamentals in the sphere of handcraft, Fan meaning ‘art’ and Usta symbolizing ‘master’. It is no wonder then that Fanusta has created a continuously growing ecosystem for traditional craftspeople and contemporary designers to co-create and take Indian art and craft to multiple spaces globally. They aim to rediscover and celebrate the traditional art and crafts of India through the creation of home products that are a unique combination of age-old mastery and new-age design. The CEO and Founder, Shailander kumar discovered that there is a vacuum when it comes to platforms for local artisans and craftspeople. There are hundreds of artists who face problems selling products, earning healthy margins and working on new designs. So, Fanusta was started to provide multiple avenues for these ingenious artisans and craftspeople which would allow them to perceive their art as a profitable revenue opportunity and not just a part-time hobby. The artists and craftspeople work with Fanusta’s team of designers to develop novel décor products that can make art functional while also exposing global designs to traditional art and crafts.

At Fanusta, one can find everything for their home or office decor and interior needs. From wall arts, sculptures, table decor to furniture and utility products, most of which are hand-crafted and art-infused. Locating and onboarding artists is the main challenge that they face with spirited vigor. From providing them regular income to allowing them their creative space, Fanusta takes decisive steps to ensure that the artists feel connected, protected and supported by them. And the result of these efforts are the mesmerizing Fanusta products that are a unique amalgamation of art meets functionality. Arts forms are splendidly used here on furniture, kitchen utility products, wall arts and a whole lot of other products, that give a feeling of both traditional crafts as well as contemporary artisanal products. Indeed, Fanusta is artistically reinventing Indian craft and is now looking to expand the avenues for these artisans and craftspeople even further by launching INDESIGN by Fanusta, their interior designing arm, where they introduce the products of their own artisans and craftspeople to the Interior designing sphere. In 2020 they are also planning to open five “House of Fanusta” retail cum experience stores across the country along with INDESIGN by Fanusta interior solutions, which will provide a one stop destination to get any space designed skillfully. Fanusta’s unique approach is successfully gearing to provide even wider exposure to Indian artisans and craftspeople, by bringing a plethora of opportunities to experiment and innovate with their moving crafts. tihg

It is also likely that the designs for kid’s rooms are going to be less thematic. Keeping the shell of the room neutral allows for the use of prints, while adding colours to the space through art, accessories and rugs. Gowri Adappa, Principal Architect and Co-founder, A Design Co. “Today, a millennial home is a weekend refuge and a launchpad to take on an increasingly busy week. Seamless social spaces which keep the occupants connected and private sleeping areas and nooks for the occasional moment of quiet are the key ingredients to a well laid out floor plan for a living environment in the contemporary city.”
Image: Jignesh Jhaveri
Robert Verrijt and Shefali Balwani, Principal Architects, Architecture Brio “For millennials living in dense metropolises, space saving solutions become key. They require practical and adaptable open arrangements. You can for example remove dispensable walls between rooms and and replace them with objects to optimize space. You can also overlap activities to create semi-defined and multi-use spaces. This ideology ensures that the verandah becomes a shower, the terrace becomes a dining room and the kitchen can be merged with the living room. While freeing up space, it allows for multiple activities to take place simultaneously in the daily routine.” The Ideal Home and Garden April 2020 |

Ali Bakir Baldiwala, Partner, Baldiwala Associates “The younger generation is open to trying new styles and also combining ones that have been around for ages. They believe in conscious luxury, they have ethics and morals they like to work with. They spend on important pieces and selective areas and balance their expenses well. The approach of “showing off ” the house is no more with expensive works but the fact that they have designed the space with eco-friendly materials etc which holds more weightage than the generic expensive materials used. Therefore, we make a conscious effort of making full use of resources and craftsmen within our country, which helps local artisans and vendors to prove their mettle and of course facilitates employment in general.”
Sarah Sham, Principal Designer, Essajees Atelier “For the millennial, luxury doesn’t mean marble or gold, sometimes it can mean the highest quality of wood used in a simple, clean way. Monotone spaces are every millennial's dream and reflects the aesthetic of now- blue on blue on blue. There’s never too much of a good thing! Furthermore, cement is one of the millennial's favourite materials. Put it onto a wall to make the space come alive with more warmth and more texture.”

Dikshu C Kukreja, Managing Principal, C P Kukreja Architects "The millennials’ perception about the built environment is more transient than seen ever before in history imagining it from the perception of a nomadic culture. With a fast paced life and jobs that take you from one city to another, nuclear families are becoming the norm. This also sometimes compels individuals to co-live with other young professionals. Therefore, homes become temporary commodities and not a lifelong investment for them. The designs also reflect this perception by being more flexible, more modular, and more interchangeable, in terms of multiplicity in use of a single space."
Farah Ahmed and Dhaval Shellugar, Partners, FADD Studio “The millennial generation is more inclined towards the uniqueness of a space - something only they have and speaks to them. Millennials are not afraid to experiment; they are more open to suggestions and innovative ideas. They are also open to changing things in a short time and often don’t want too many permanent things. There is always a “what if I get bored...?” And therefore “give me something that’s easy to change”. So we would tell them that they could change the facade and move the furniture anywhere in the house. So there’s room for change too.” The Ideal Home and Garden April 2020 |

Shilpa Jain Balvally, Principal Architect, Studio Osmosis “More and more millennials are putting down their phones and exploring nature, shattering the stereotypes many have of young people. Being surrounded by society and interacting with people virtually constantly needs extremely natural or calming spaces for them to strike a balance. Reflective of this is millennials increasingly experimenting with happy mood based colours.”
Manav Patel, Principal Architect and CoFounder, MS Design Studio “Millennials are an ambitious & achievement oriented lot and in the process they are deprived of the pleasure of being amidst nature, the serene green environment & the ivory being. Its them who need the most to be in the natural green environment to de-stress themselves. Added to this, the land getting dearer day by day makes it highly improbable to have an expansive outdoor garden. Thus our efforts are towards bringing the outdoors green into their indoor living space through the concept of vertical garden.”

Sanchit Arora, Studio Head Architect, Studio Renesa “In this era, the phrase “less is more” has gained appreciation alongside “work less and live more”. Keeping this in mind, the age of minimalism and shared architecture is what dictates the design for residences for millennials. While designing a house, as opposed to earlier, our millennial clients prefer to keep all bedrooms to an equal size while allotting more space to the shared spaces such as living/dining and other recreational areas as well as the open/ outer context. Thus the way they live and interact with the built environment is key to designing their homes- commonality comes from a willingness to engage, not just architectural questions of bedroom areas or structural solutions.”
Kruti Garg, Director, Design and Interiors, Abha Narain Lambah Associates “Homes are always an extension of the owner’s personality and in the new millennium, the one aspect which guides the design of the space is comfort, style and flexibility along with the ease with which the space can transform itself from a minimalistic interior to a classic blend of eclecticism. While designing a dynamic space, it then becomes important to understand what are the constants and what are the variables which create the impact of a certain style and reflect the character. The spaces are therefore designed in a neutral palette with classic silhouettes and forms which are then accentuated with splash of colour, or accessories to give it the style quotient as desired by the client." From 1926 onward the brand was appointed as the supplier of furniture to the Italian royal family, the Savoia dynasty. Since then, Poltrona Frau has furnished the homes of numerous prominent people, grand hotels, the interiors of the Expo Turin 1928, and the lavish transatlantic Rex(ocean liner)-pride of the Italian Navy, among others. The brand consists of three divisions residential, interiors in motion and contract. While the residential division has been a part of Poltrona Frau since the beginning, the interiors in motion division was founded in 1984. Poltrona Frau creates interiors for trains, yachts, helicopters and airplanes and has collaborated with award winning airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Alitalia and Etihad Airways. Furthermore, the most prestigious projects of the contract division include

the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Jockey Club Innovation Tower in Hong Kong and the Macro Museum in Rome; and most recently the Jio World Centre (Dhirubhai Ambani International Convention & Exhibition Centre) in Mumbai. How has Poltrona Frau’s journey in India been so far? What sets you apart? India has been a long and fruitful journey for Poltrona Frau. Our foray in India dates back to 2009 and it was in the form of an equity joint venture with the TATA Group. We set up our first showroom in 2010 in Mumbai and subsequently in 2013 in New Delhi through the joint venture route. The significance of our brand and the credibility of the TATA Group
Special Feature
helped us establish our foot print. Poltrona Frau has expanded its presence to Surat, Pune and Hyderabad. Other cities like Indore, Bangaluru, Kolkata are under discussion. The brand also operates in neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Sri Lanka through dealer owned showrooms. Our USP lies in the fact that we are probably one of the only Italian furniture companies who have entered the market directly with our own investment and in a truly multinational way. This allows us to channelize our efforts and resources to manage multiple challenges and opportunities. Being an established brand in the luxury/lifestyle industry, how did you reposition your brand keeping tough competition in mind? Poltrona Frau has collaborated with over 200 leading global architects and designers, and is present in over 100 countries. Currently, the brand boasts of 14 flagship stores, 142 single brand stores and around 400 multi-brand stores globally. Through a constant innovation of tradition, the brand designs and produces luxury sofas, armchairs, beds, storage units, cabinets, chairs, tables, furnishing accessories and directional systems. Poltrona Frau offers tastefully furnished environments that reflect the personality of those that use them. The brand uses natural materials(leather, wood, marble, metal etc) without embellishments, in such a way that it enhances and emphasizes their quintessential qualities. These natural materials are made unique by finishes and technologically advanced processes that are specifically designed by the brand to make them proprietary design materials. The fact that eight out of our ten bestsellers are from our modern collection designed over the last ten years is testimony to the fact that innovation in design and trend has worked for us. How do you see the Indian luxury market? India is a very vast and widely spread out market for luxury goods. An Indian consumer is a very well read, well traveled and mature customer. Even in rural India, consumers are well aware and willing to invest on luxury brands and products of intrinsic value. A certain section of our buyers are from such rural segments. In general, most affluent and economically well to do people are our consumers. But surprisingly, also some farmers, young self employed millennials and also corporates. Do you plan to tie-up with other e-commerce sites? No, currently we sell through our own e-commerce site and only through Italy. We shall roll out the same for rest of the world in due course.
What are your expansion plans? We are planning for showrooms in East India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and possibly one in Central India. In addition to this we are pursuing hospitality, auditorium and parliament seating projects in India. How do you see the future of retail in India shaping up in the coming years?
The Indian retail scenario has changed dramatically over the last decade. From a point in 2016 where Mumbai had only had three branded imported furniture showrooms, today in 2020 there are nine such showrooms and hence the visibility for brands and also choices for consumers have improved greatly. India has been witnessing growth all over the country. TIHG

In Sync WIth nature
Four artists reveal what inspires them, why they paint birds and the thoughts that lie behind their creative process. Impressions: Benoy Sebastian
nIn taneja Nin Taneja, a Delhi based artist and coordinator for Nature Forever Society in Nasik works for the conservation of sparrows. Taking bird photos and making short movies on them, she takes inspiration from birds, who are the main subject of her artworks. She paints in oils, acrylics and watercolours. Observing their behaviour, helping preserve their habitat, her love for these beautiful birds is noticed in her everyday life. Birds to her share a special bond and symbolise the beauty of her spiritual growth. The artist is currently in the process of putting together all her birds photographs taken over a period of last five years on paper. Her latest collection is Birds of Delhi and Hill Birds in watercolours. The birds that she paints are out of a connection to nature and its quietness. They stir her soul, motivating her to rise above our earthly concerns and learn more about a greater world beyond our Earth: the spiritual realm.

Sangeetha Kadur Birds portray an exquisite charm of their own believes Sangeetha, an acclaimed artist. She ponders over their colourful feathers, their unique forms and features and their playful inquisitive behaviour that has long captured her attention. This fascination for birds transformed Sangeetha into an avid birdwatcher and gradually shaped her career as a wildlife artist. One of her ambitious projects on birds, was to illustrate the smallest, most agile, finely gorgeted, iridescent flying jewels of the Americas - the Hummingbirds, for an internationally acclaimed coffee table book, in collaboration with Gorgas Science Foundation, USA. As an artist and a naturalist, capturing a captivating glimpse from nature and bringing it upclose to the eyes of the viewer, carries a sense of responsibility Sangeetha feels. She adds that the intensity of focus required to first imitate and then recreate something with her lines and strokes is constantly challenging and yet immensely gratifying. If through her art, she can truly create a spark of wonder, a curiosity and an admiration that connects the two worlds, that of the illustrated and the existing, then, it indeed seems all worthwhile.

SMITA KAUSHIK
Smita graduated with a degree in painting in 2015, and joined an IT firm as a visual designer. She says that a regular pay cheque meant that she could paint for herself, and that’s how she started depicting only nature in her work. Her first major art project was with renowned artist Sangeetha Kadur. And painting the walls of a nature center on the computer from miles away, she realised the potential of painting digitally. Smita felt more confident about her work and herself, and this was just the start of many more wildlife-related projects. Coincidentally, most of them were related to birds. And today, after many art projects that are yet to see the light of the day, and some projects that were very successful, Smita feels that there is so much more to learn in this field. She is on the lookout for opportunities in India and abroad that will help her realize her potential and help her spread her wings in a splash of colour.

RUPA SAMARIA A bird call is what has always inspired Rupa, the artist. She says that it is her attempt to give voice to the birds’ silent call for help, through a selection of thought-provoking art. On World Sparrow Day, March 2020, she decided to brin to life some of these beautiful creatures. She says that she urges everyone, especially the youth who are the future, to re-discover this world inhabited not by humans but by birds and thus ensure that we protect and save these unique and precious creatures. She pins her hope on the youth of today to educate others, be conscious of our responsibilities towards the environment and to fight for the survival of these lovely beings who are slowly disappearing. And if we don’t take steps now they will surely become extinct! Our world without birds would be like an artist’s canvas without colours. A world silenced, without the sounds of their heavenly notes. ur house in the Aravalli range is a project that is close to our hearts. It has been designed in keeping with our design ethos of sustainability hence both the material and the colour palette appear raw yet refined. The natural wood and earthy materials used throughout the house— from floor to furniture, are fleshed out with intricate care and detail. Everything that shares a footprint in the house is thoughtfully worked into, hand-cut or hand-sawed and meticulously put. While the overall theme of the house is contemporary, we have further enhanced it through the contrasting interplay of minimalism and maximalism. This aesthetic dichotomy is achieved by using a minimal neutral palette and dramatic styling using oversized mirrors, sculptures and art. Sumptuous finishes like that of muted and antiqued brass add accent to doors, sculptures, furniture and chandeliers. Vintage switches lend an air of old-world elegance into the mix. The diverse inventory of antiques, art and artifacts we have collected over the years from our travels across India and abroad show up everywhere in the house. Packed with custom touches and artisanal craftsmanship, our house boasts of four defined spaces: double height foyer, double height terrace, living room, and bar. While each of these areas has
86 | April 2020 The Ideal Home and Garden
its own soul and spirit — we have used sliding doors to demarcate as well as to unify them. One look at the home and you know it belongs to designers! And it goes without saying that the decor is forever in flux—whether it is to reflect the change in season or design attitude. The vertical volume of the terrace incorporates wooden paneling that seduce the eye to roam all the way to the top. During winters, this area morphs into a dining room. Wood and brass accents create a contemporary yet earthy vibe in the bar/family lounge. The living area is completely steeped in the minimalism-meetsmaximalism style with the wooden bay window area, brassaccentuated double door, and larger-than-life vignettes; this is indeed a meeting point for rich material interactions. The lobby, again, double height invites pools of natural light. An intricate cast railing enhances the staircase—the captivating reflection of which is captured in an imposing 20-foot mirror. The lobby area also has a fireplace which is enlivened with fresh blooms and birdcage mirrors. Overall, our home is a pleasing medley of dramatic accents, vintage elements, artisanal pieces and theatrical lighting, making it all seem like they have come together organically - over the years. It is an apt representation of our family, our values, and our love for honest materials and artisanal craftsmanship. TIHG

Interior Designer Sanjyt Syngh
vibrant space that soothes the youthful soul while maintaining a balance, is the brief that was given to designer Sanjyt Syngh before he began his work on this paradisaical residence. Designed for a young professional couple, the space is meant to provide an escape from the hectic work-life fatigue and stress that informs the owners’ life. And the designer has achieved this by providing a space that is distinctly different from a formal setup, both in terms of the look and the overall ambiance of the home. Located in a quiet residential lane in South Delhi, this 2400 sq ft corner property is blessed with natural light from its threesided view. The design plan incorporates this beautifully in order to grant natural enhancement to all that lies inside. Apart from this, incredible lighting fixtures from various brands have been incorporated to render the desired contemporary glamour to the space. In fact, each space within the house is planned keeping a different concept in mind. Distinctiveness is maintained by changing colours and materials with a strong focus on the details, while at the same time being markedly different from the formal setup that corporates offer. Therefore carefully curated art has been incorporated by Sanjyt into every space, using it to render awe-inspiring character to each space with pieces from the designer’s own studio, as well as reminders of the couple’s various travels.

Each space is adorned with modern furniture, in which most of the focal pieces have been manufactured and designed by Sanjyt Syngh Design Studio. The flooring is done in Botticino Classic, while the ceiling are amplified using wooden panels. The living area is specifically done in young fashion colours that is in line with their youth and personality. The dining area, that is a space where they come together to partake of food at the end of their busy day, is designed as a pristine space that transmits a sense of calm. The bedrooms have been meticulously designed, particularly the serene master bedroom that utilizes an unconventional palette. Special care was taken to incorporate a gym into the design plan, which was customized by the owner’s trainer, keeping in mind the couple’s hectic work schedules. Curated art and light has been melded into the design plan in a way that enhances the look of each space. The walls have been deliberately kept basic so as to direct focus towards the incredibly curated art and furniture accents. The place is exclusively designed in accordance with specific requirements and yet the appeal of the space is undeniably universal, both in terms of the look and the feel. TIHG
