Last Monday, January 25th, the Manitoba Craft Council announced its 2021 Bursary Fund Recipients and yours truly was one of the awardees. From their website: "The Manitoba Craft Council Bursary Fund was created to encourage the artistic development

of Manitoba craft artists across the spectrum of craft media. Proposed projects should be targeted towards professional development activities that may include taking a course or workshop, upgrading or expanding technical and design skills, attending
a conference, and/or assisting in other areas of personal craft study." My bursary award will go towards furthering my study of Natural Dye processes through an online course at Maiwa School of Textiles. In this article, I want to share with you what this means for Masagana Flower Farm. When I first planted flowers with the intention to sell in 2018, I was blown away with how much my small garden had produced. A lot of stems were sold and so are the ones that didn't make the quality check and stayed behind. My house was filled with fresh flowers and so did my compost bins. Even though I know that once

the flowers have completely broken down and go back to my soil as an amendment, it was still unsettling for me that the flowers I produced only had one use, as fresh flower bouquet. Later that Fall, I discovered fibre farmers in East Manitoba who cultivated dye gardens. These mindful farmers and fibre artists grow indigo and flowers that became botanical dye sources for their wool yarns. It took an eco-printing workshop at one of these farms in January 2019 to awaken my curiosity to this alchemy, an experience of the magic of plants. The rest as they say is history and the unfolding story of my journey has grown into a web of interconnected relationships between plants, natural dyes and fibers, soil health, slow made crafts

Winnipeg winners bring home record LOTTO MAX jackpot $60 million windfall largest-ever in Manitoba John Chua admits he was a little disappointed when his wife, Jhoana, woke him up early in the morning on January 23 to tell him someone in Winnipeg had brought home a massive $60 million LOTTO MAX jackpot. “I was jealous of whoever won… not knowing it was me,” he recalled with a laugh. John, who regularly picks up tickets on behalf of his family, started buying them online with PlayNow. com in November when retail sales of lottery tickets in Manitoba were restricted as part of public health orders. When John blearily checked his PlayNow.com account early the morning after the January 22 LOTTO MAX draw, he says he didn’t see anything to indicate his ticket was a winner. Then later that day he received an email from PlayNow.com, and everything changed. “I thought it might be a Free Play or something. But it said $60 million – I was confused, so I checked on PlayNow.com when I got home,” he explained.
“And there it was; I didn’t see it earlier in the morning.” John – who is sharing the win with his wife Jhoana Chua, mother Angie Chua, and uncle Ben Lagman – did actually win two Free Plays…along with a $60,000,020 prize; the largest lottery jackpot ever awarded in Manitoba and the biggest payout ever in Canada from a ticket bought online. The group matched all seven winning numbers for the draw – 11, 21, 23, 25, 28, 41 and 43. “He always plays jokes – he’s a joker, so I didn’t believe it,” Angie recalled her son telling her their family was about to be multi-millionaires. “I believe now that it’s real,” she continued as the family filled out the paperwork to claim their prize. “Now we’re not just dreaming any more.” John, who noted that even though his family’s lottery dreams have come true he’ll probably keep playing – “It’s a lot of fun,” he chuckled – credits options like
PlayNow.com, lottery subscriptions, and remote ordering and pickup of lottery tickets as being important to allow players to keep playing when sales at retail were temporarily suspended. “Being able to do it online was great,” he said. “People talk about what they’d do if they win the lottery, but that won’t happen unless you buy a ticket.” The group isn’t sure exactly what they’ll do with their winnings yet, but one purchase John says he and his wife will be making soon is a home for their growing family. “I wasn’t really expecting anything – I was hoping for just a little to put toward a house,” explained John. “There’s a lot of things that come to mind – but I’m going to take my time. I want to be wise. We’ve got kids and need to think for our future. I just want to take the time and do the smart thing.” “It’s a huge blessing,” added Angie. “We’re all very thankful – we just needed a little bit and we got a lot.”

KODE RED KRISPY BAO Rings the Alarm for Fried Chicken Lovers and Clinches Top Billing in Fried Chicken Fest 2021 January 25, 2021 (Winnipeg, MB) – The votes have been tallied and the results are in! Congratulations to Meal Set Bistro the winner of Fried Chicken Fest 2021 as voted by the foodies and fans.Their entry the KODE RED KRISPY BAO swept the top spot but it's clear from the chatter online and among foodies and fans there were no slouches in this year's friendly and flavourful competition. Fried chicken lovers made organizers proud again this past week. Big kudos to the team at CRSPYBNCH who placed second with their Cheat Day Sandwich. The Block and Blade's Twice Fried Mother Clucker with the crunch heard 'round the world and Little Bones Wings's Raging Rooster TIED for third place. Honourable mention from the fan votes goes to Tommy's Pizzeria for their punchy Spicy Chicken Sandwich featuring a halo of flaming hot Cheetos. Congratulations also goes to Yard Burger—the first place Judge's Choice selection for Fried Chicken Fest 2021 as chosen by Chef Allan Pineda. He adds, "This one hit from a bunch of angles. His second and third place picks go to deer + almond's Tribute to Don and Roughage Eatery's La Bomba UnChicken Burger respectively, with an honourable mention to CRSPYBNCH for their Cheat Day Sandwich. Fried Chicken Fest was on track to produce close to $1 million dollars of economic impact on the local economy and this will have a tremendous spillover effect for the restaurant industry and the push to #saveMBrestaurants. More than 40 restaurants from almost every corner of Winnipeg put forth a stunning array of fried chicken dishes that were not only visually appealing but delivered on flavour and fun for Manitoba foodies. It was the best year ever and organizers weren't even sure if it was worth doing during a pandemic but it's clear foodies and fans were delighted by this tasty distraction from the daily headlines. The office of Kevin Lamoureux, MP for Winnipeg North, provided local assistance to make the online meeting possible. As a Member of Parliament, Mendicino represents Ontario’s federal electoral district of Eglinton-Lawrence. As Pope Francis writes, "Certain truths in life can only be seen with the eyes cleansed by tears." 3. Call a friend and share your sorrow, share your pain. With the help of your cell phone, you can call your best friend or, interact with your friend. Talk to them to ease the pain. has been a very challenging year and he expects the next couple of months to be equally difficult, but he also remains hopeful. “I see brighter days coming and that is because our government has had the backs of Canadians. We’ve provided support and relief to people who need it, whether you're a worker, a business owner, or a family. And in addition to that, we have the most number of vaccines per capita in the world, so there is every reason to be hopeful and optimistic that by this fall we will have vaccinated everybody that wants one, and that's when we will start to see life get back to normal.” Having covered a wide array of topics in the allotted fifteen minutes, Minister Mendicino expressed appreciation for the federal government’s continuing positive relationship with the Filipino migrants of Canada. "Under our government, we have seen the Filipino-Canadian diaspora grow to nearly a million and that is quite a remarkable achievement for your community, so at a very high level let me just say that it is an honour for me to be a friend to the FilipinoCanadian community!” Kris Ontong is an award-winning community advocate and a finalist in the 12th RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards. He is the co-founder of Barangay Canada, and hosts its weekly video podcast.
5. Take a bath or take a power nap or sleep. Cleansing your body with warm water is so relaxing and I am mesmerized by the gushing sound of water as if everything is washed away, down to the drain. After taking a bath, you emerge as a new you! I love to take naps, to be exact power naps. You are in a different dimension, in a special sphere of reality. After waking up, I feel relax and different. Much more if you have at least an 8-hour sleep when your body is totally at rest. And waking up is a blessing. These suggestions by St. Thomas Aquinas are easy to follow. When sadness strikes, try some of these remedies. For myself, I have found that these remedies have worked well during the pandemics when you cannot go shopping, or visit your family members or friends.

Ice Fishing: Safe Use of Portable Shelters and Heaters

ce fishing participation has exploded in recent years. With so many new anglers to the sport, there is bound to be a learning curve or two. Unfortunately, in the worst possible scenario, doing the wrong thing can result in not even having the chance to learn from your mistakes. Two local anglers lost their lives last weekend due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. The couple was discovered unresponsive by other anglers in their
zippered-up portable pop-up shelter on the Red River at Selkirk. When using any portable heating system such as propane-fuelled units like ‘sunflowers’ or Buddy heaters, it is imperative to provide proper ventilation for them. Our instinct when using portable shelters and portable heaters during ice fishing is to seal up every possible source of cold air to keep the warm air in. However, if you do not permit some access for fresh air, the

resulting build-up of carbon monoxide can be deathly dangerous for anyone inside. • All ice fishing shelters have built-in vent flaps usually located at head level on at least two sides of the tent. Always have these open when using a heater. • For more ventilation, open one of the windows part way or all the way to ensure that fresh air is always getting exchanged. • An invaluable piece of equipment, especially if planning to spend time overnight on the ice is a portable CO detector alarm which can be purchased starting at $30. A common mistake is to place the alarm on the floor of the shelter. For maximum safety, place the alarm higher up in the tent such as in the cargo netting on the roof or attach it to one of the higher poles as CO is lighter and will collect at the top. • If you begin to feel dizzy, light-headed, short of breath, or disoriented at all while in your shelter, open the door and step outside immediately for fresh air. • Check your portable heater unit and propane source for damage and proper working operation regularly throughout the season. Filipino Chefs Flex Their Food Fest Creativity by Primrose Madayag Knazan Food Blog on Instagram and Facebook: Pegonaplate
Fried Chicken Week, Le Vegan Week, and La Poutine Week have brought foodies out in droves to try creative spins on mundane dishes. Filipino Chefs across Winnipeg show off their creative flavours and fun takes on Canadian cuisine. Chef Rommel Regadio of CRSP BNCH started as a home cook. His family opened CRSP BNCH and Sea Level 100 (at the same location) offering street foods featuring Japanese, Korean, and Filipino flavours. Their first fried chicken sandwich was a foot long with egg salad and banana ketchup. However their Cheat Day sandwich with Nashville fried chicken between two grilled cheese sandwiches received second place for Voters Choice and Judges Choice honourable mention. Across the city in Sage Creek, Chef

Noel Sorriano of Block and Blade Restaurant made a deep-fried sandwich with chicken and curry sauce. Chef Noel trained as a chef apprentice for eight years then was an executive chef at a Saskatchewan convention centre before the pandemic brought him back to Winnipeg. Chef Noel’s sandwich tied for third place for Fried Chicken Fest Voters Choice. Hopefully their Pulled Pork Fried Cheese poutine for La Poutine Week is equally successful. Chef Charlie Villapando of Charlee’s Restaurant in Elmwood graduated from the Red River College Culinary Program. neighborhood following and Filipino community support. Chef Charlie wanted to create a dish reminiscent of late night Chinese food with garlic fried rice, salted fish, and fried chicken. Their Palabok Poutine for La Poutine Week has all the flavours of Pancit Palabok over cheese and fries. Chef Charlie also offers Filipino poutines on the Champs food truck menu (same location as Charlee’s) with sisig, caladareta, or kare kare. Chef Eejay Chua from Baon Bistro/Manila Nights joined forces with Chef Aiden Thanh Tu of Khao House to create the Fried Chicken and Ube Waffles. Graduating from the Red River College Culinary Program, Chef Eejay worked at a Kananaskis resort and Winnipeg hotels before gaining restaurant experience under Filipino Chef Norm Pastoran. Chef Eejay now offers Hawaiin spam musubi infused with Filipino flavours such as salted egg, tocino, or bagoong, available for order online along with the Baon Bistro/Manila Nights Valentine’s Day dinner special. Chef Ben Fernandez from Uptown Alley has an extensive knowledge of international cuisines after 25 years’ experience working on cruise lines. Food is a family passion after helping his son open Grumpy Joe Restaurant in the Philippines, and his daughter working alongside him at Uptown. For Fried Chicken Fest, Chef Ben

put together a breaded ground chicken patty with bacon, apple slaw, and mac n cheese. Last fall's Le Burger Week entry was a tapa burger with a sushi rice patty, asian slaw, and a fried egg. Both burgers are still available for order from Uptown Alley. Chef Maureen Gelvis-Pfueger of Monuts Café in Osborne Village went to school in the Philippines for restaurant management, which included basic culinary training. She always loved to cook and started making healthier dishes after getting involved with body building. A hobby of selling protein
doughnuts at the gym became Monuts Café where she offers gluten-free vegan protein doughnuts. For Le Vegan Week, Chef Maureen offered a Baon Box with an adobo mushroom & cheeze sandwich, crispy kangkong chips, atchara, and a Turon protein doughnut for dessert. The popular Baon Box was a hit and the café extended hours to accommodate demand.

WARMING HUTS v.2021 NEW PROJECTS UNVEILED Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10:30am Warming Huts v.2021 revealed at the junction of the Assiniboine River and Red River No formal program; local Warming Hut creators will be available to interview
T
he Forks, Winnipeg – The 11th annual call for Warming Hut submissions was once again a global event with submissions from over 150 international artists and architecture groups. This year was the first time the competition received submissions from Albania, Brazil, Libya and Yemen. The new 2021 Warming Huts are on display at The Forks. “We are grateful to continue the Warming Huts competition and tradition during the pandemic, safety celebrating art, architecture and outdoor amenities at The Forks,” says Paul Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, The Forks Renewal Corporation. “In a year like no other, we are still able to bring these beautiful art and architecture structures to The Forks to be enjoyed by the public.” The Forks is grateful that lead partner, the Manitoba Association of Architects, continues to support the initiative. “We are so pleased that Warming Huts v.2021 was able to continue this year despite some very obvious obstacles,” said Doug Hanna, President of the Manitoba Association of Architects. "We congratulate all those whose submissions were selected and hope that the Huts are able to bring some normalcy to the way Manitobans experience winter while visiting The Forks.” All submissions were reviewed by a “blind” jury, meaning they have no background information on who submitted the designs or where they are from. The jury, consisting of experts in both the arts and architecture worlds, chose three winning huts.
The winners are: Divergence, designed by Thomas Cheney Architects from Seattle, Washington, USA; Hot Landing, designed by AtLRG Architecture Inc. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and Yöhäus designed by Karina Leong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and Jeremy Chan (Hong Kong). Both Leong and Chan graduated from the University of Manitoba Bachelor of Environmental Design Program. “There’s always a buzz about who our invited artist or architect is. This year, to honour the world’s ‘keep it local’ messaging, we got the originators and instigators of the whole competition to create once again,” says Jordan. “It’s kind of like bringing the band back together in a way. We asked them to create one and of course they gave us three.” They have created three new pieces for Warming Huts v.2021: Assembly, The Benesii and Sunspot. Another local addition to Warming Huts v.2021 is the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba with their Warming Huts, Sharing Circle and Seating Portal. “The Faculty of Architecture is excited to be continuing our involvement in the Warming Huts tradition,” says Karen Wilson Baptist, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. “We are especially thrilled that the students, led by Eduardo Aquino and Peter Hargraves, took this opportunity to focus on the ongoing issues around homelessness in our City. experiential education enhances what our students are taught in the design studio and we are thankful to The Forks for allowing us to be part of this exciting event.” The 2021 Warming Huts will join approximately 30 Huts from previous years on The Winnipeg Foundation Centennial River Trail and in Arctic Glacier Winter Park. Current COVID-19 guidelines regarding access to the Warming Huts are being maintained. Warming Huts v.2021: An Arts + Architecture Competition on Ice, was announced in June 2020 with an open call for submissions
through the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), the American Institute of Architecture, online at archiforum.com and other prominent architectural websites, and is also supported by the Manitoba Association of Architects (MAA). The winners were chosen in November 2020. Warming Huts v.2021: An Arts + Architecture Competition is made possible also through the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts. In keeping with this year’s restrictions, no winning teams from outside the province have travelled to Manitoba.

Ammonia Leaked from Ice Plant in Navotas Prompting Nearby Residents to Evacuate
A
n ice plant along the North Bay Boulevard of Navotas City had an ammonia leak; thereby prompting authorities to have nearby residents leave their houses and temporarily stay in evacuation centers. As vapors released from ammonia are deadly to humans, Mayor Toby Tiangco himself was on top of the situation, ensuring that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and ambulance vehicles were on site. Tiangco stated that they prioritized the evacuation of all residents first followed by an investigation of what brought about the leak.
As of posting, Tiangco assured the public that the leak was already under control. Meanwhile, the mayor disclosed that the ice plant under investigation was owned by his mother. Because of the event that transpired, he had ordered the Bureau of Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) to issue closure order. Issuing a public apology to the residents for the trouble the incident has caused, Tiangco said that they will take care of the cost should anyone be hospitalized and expressed the willingness of his family to coordinate with the city government should the need arise.

Child car seat law’s full enforcement deferred

hile the Child Car Seat Law was already implemented last February 02, full and strict enforcement would not begin until several months later. According to Roberta Valera, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Deputy Director for law enforcement, they will “not begin apprehending and ticketing violators until three to six months from now.” He further stated that enforcement not only consists of apprehension, it also covers dissemination of information and warnings. Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade echoed that they have also considered the current pandemic situation; hence, there will be no apprehensions made for the time being. Under the Republic Act 11229 signed into law last 2019, the mandatory usage of car seats applies to children 12 years old of age and below, with a height of 4’11 and below. This follows that the car seats are expected to be suitable for the child’s age and height and be mounted in the rear seat of a vehicle. PATIENCE IS KEY WITH PLD By Ryan Reyes
H
opefully the fresh wounds of the Patrik Laine-PierreLuc-Dubois trade have been healing well enough for you. Personally it was difficult for me to hear that the Jets were shipping the young Finnish sniper to Columbus along with Jack Roslovic in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois and a third round draft pick in 2022. Flashbacks to the Selanne trade, and concerns about Winnipeg losing yet another young talent soon gave way to hockey logic. This one trade solved more problems than just Laine & Roslovic wanting out of Winnipeg and PLD needing to get out of Columbus. On the ice it addresses the Blue Jackets’ need for a top-tier goal scorer and for the Jets it helps solidify a previously weak centre position. What Winnipeg gets with Dubois is a bonafide premier centre that is just entering the upswing of his career. He’s a good two-way player that’s excellent during 5-on-5. He drives possession and makes others around him better. His awareness, skating ability and agility are elite. Are you excited yet Jets fans? The biggest questions now are who is he going to play with on his line and when is he going to hit the ice? It should be a no-brainer that PLD should slot in at his natural position, centre. However don't be

There’s a chill in the air and in your heart as Venus enters Aquarius on Monday, moving the planet of love into your sector of privacy. For the next couple of weeks, you might feel more distant from loved ones as you become more and more introverted. This is a period of aloofness as you work on your inner healing. It’s not a great time to be social or start a romantic relationship.
On Monday, Venus enters Aquarius and your sector of thinking and communication. It’s time to get logical about your financial situation, Sagittarius. While many associate Venus with love, the planet also controls how we spend money. You might suddenly get the impulse to do some redecorating, buy some fancy clothes, or take a trip. However, this wouldn’t be wise in the long term.

You had a good run with the planet of love in your sign, but on Monday, Venus leaves your sign in favor of sociable Aquarius and your sector of value. This could make you a little too focused on possessions and what you “own.”

decade ago, many young listeners had consumed their dose of music by watching individual songs via Internet platforms such as YouTube. With the advent of streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal; however, people have started to listen again to full albums. And it's a good sign. The online album-listening somehow influenced many of these enthusiasts to go back to the ageold habit of devouring platters of albums and not only lone singles, as well as buying physical formats such as vinyl records and CDs, which are after all still available in the market, at record shops or, better yet, online stores like Discogs, Amazon, and eBay. Having said that, young listeners of today might want to backtrack and investigate what albums best represent the genre Sunny Pop, Art Rock, Post-Punk, and New Wave in the previous decades--genres commonly defined by their artistic and melodic quality.
1970s: Sparks - Halfnelson (1971) Roxy Music - Roxy Music (1972) Split Enz - Mental Notes (1975)
Final Note Listening to it randomly on the radio or YouTube may be convenient, yes; but nothing beats the experience of enjoying music via full albums especially when you physically own the CDs or vinyl records.

NIAGARA FALLS, “The Honeymoon Capital of the World”
by Gem and Lita Anis
F
or more than 215 years Niagara Falls has been known traditionally as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World”. The first honeymooners, Theodosia and Joseph Alston, trekked from Albany, New York, to Niagara Falls accompanied by a number of servants to help on the journey and nine pack horses. Theodosia happened to be the daughter of a future vicepresident of the United States. In 1804 two other high-society newlyweds, Jerome Bonaparte (younger brother of Napoleon Bonaparte) and his bride, Elizabeth Patterson, travelled to Niagara Falls all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana, by stagecoach. Thus, honeymooning at Niagara Falls was born. Three separate waterfalls thunder over high steep rocks to make the world famous and beautiful natural geological wonder of the world, Niagara Falls. The word Niagara comes from the word “onguiaahra” which means “a thundering noise”. Niagara Falls is a collective name for the three waterfalls from the largest to the smallest – the Horseshoe
Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls (158 feet high and 2,600 feet wide), the American Falls (167 feet high and 1,000 feet wide), and the Bridal Veil Falls, that straddle the international border of Canada (in the province of Ontario) and the United States via New York. The water that flows over Niagara Falls comes from four of the five Great Lakes: Erie, Huron, Michigan, and Superior, ultimately ends in Lake Ontario, from there water drains by way of St. Lawrence River, and finally to the Atlantic Ocean. Half of this water is diverted for hydroelectric power by the United States and Canada that had agreed to divide the tremendous electric power generated by several hydroelectric plants located on both sides of the Niagara Falls. Daredevil Nik Wallenda, the American aerialist, when asked why he wanted to walk on highwire strung high above the raging waters of Niagara Falls said, “It’s Niagara Falls. It’s one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world. Who wouldn’t want to walk across it?” On

The Love Equation "The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves."--Victor Hugo This article may be considered a cliché; it might even be boring. However, it is timely that we are reminded of this, as it ushers the new year and anticipates the forthcoming "day of hearts." What better way to reassess and examine the true nature of our emotions, and how we can manage the same when it is purposely given to another or something, for that matter. For some, this season brings magic, joy, delight, and even ecstasy; full of promises of hope, happiness, and yes, love. What Is Love? Love is defined as "an intense feeling or deep affection." In another form, it is "the feeling of great interest or pleasure in something." Speaking of forms, it is interesting to note that love in itself has eight
different types, each for a specific representation and level of affection, as well as effect on a particular person. Here it goes: 1. Philia - Affectionate Love This type of love occurs among friends and family members. It exists among people with the same beliefs, ideas, extending mutual values and respect for each other. Also, it is not romantic; hence, commonly known as "brotherly [or sibling] love." Trust, openness, and gratitude are values lined for this type. 2. Pragma - Enduring Love Maturing through time, it often involves a couple who are subconsciously drawn to each other and have a special bond between them. It is borne of commitment and dedication for each other, with equal effort for the strengthening of the relationship. A couple chooses to "stand in love" instead of "fall in love" with each other forever. 3. Storge - Familial Love A natural or instinctual affection between
15 June 2012 he successfully made the historic 25-minute walk across Niagara Falls beginning from the US side and ending at the Canadian side. In 1952 the 20th Century Fox movie “Niagara” starring Marilyn Monroe was filmed in Niagara Falls. My wife Lita and I managed to visit Niagara Falls thrice and each visit we still couldn’t help but be awestruck at the sheer size and power of the mighty Niagara Falls. There are several exciting ways to see the falls. To feel the power of Niagara Falls experience the thundering sound of the rush from the 600,000 galloons of water falling per second Niagara Falls through the “Ride the Maid of the Mist” – a ride aboard a small steamboat that takes you close to the foaming torrent of water at the very base of the falls. Shiny blue raincoat with complimentary hooded poncho is provided. Experience also the “Cave of the Winds” trip for a close-up view of the American Falls and the Bridal Veil. This will absolutely thrill you - standing a mere 20 feet from the Bridal Veil Falls. You start by riding an elevator 175 feet straight down into the Niagara gorge, then you’ll be guided down a series of steps to the Hurricane deck. Niagara Falls is approximately 130 kms. (80 miles) southwest of Toronto, an average drive of 1 and Ride the Maid of the Mist half hours without traffic delays. As a part of the province-wide declaration of pandemic emergency until 11 of 14 January 2021 Niagara Falls is February 2021. Attractions are temporarily closed during the shutdown.
mother and child or vice-versa, or even among best friend, it represents infinite love through acceptance and deep emotional connection. The value of the relationship is strengthened through the memories created. Common manifestations are the sacrifice of one's self or personal time and pleasures and the quick forgiveness of harmful acts. Gratitude is a value exercised in this type. 4. Eros - Romantic Love Defined as passionate love displayed through physical affection--usually by means of but not limited to hugging, kissing, and holding hands--it is the desire for an admired partner's body. 5. Ludus - Playful Love An expression of flirtatious interest on the person admired, it is typically the initial stages of intimate love, or the "honeymoon stage" in a relationship. Its manifestation involves laughter, playful motives, and teasing. 6. Mania - Obsessive Love It is the obsession (or madness) of a person towards a love partner, which involves unwanted jealousy or possessiveness, commonly known as codependency. The imbalance of Eros and Ludus is a usual cause of Mania, such that, the person in

question is desperately in need of his partner to find a sense of self-value. Trust is a standing value against the occurrence of this form. 7. Philautia - Self Love It is a healthy form of love drawn towards the self in which one recognizes his self-worth. He accords himself with his personal needs and optimum respect. He also recognizes the responsibility he has to nurture his own emotional, physical, and mental well-being. After all, the love for self is what a person initially needs before he could even love another person. As one of the laws on love goes, "one cannot give what he doesn't have." 8. Agape - Selfless Love Lastly, the expression of unconditional love in any given situation, whether good ot bad. time not asking for anything in return. The purpose that it gives to a person in this act of love motivates him even more as far as to enrich the lives of those in need. I remember back in grade school when I was a teeny-weeny star scout; our moderator would always talk to us and remind us about Agape love and how it is important to be always kind and generous to others. Truth be told, there is no perfect love. It is actually a combination or balance of the above and how this applies to our relationships, in line with our purpose. A well-balanced form of love requires a sound and rational intellect and stable emotion. The opposite will be chaos. Overall, the kind of love that we choose exhilarates our sense of purpose in the way that fills our needs. Love moves in strange ways, but we are the ones who make that move concrete and possible. Love (the well-balanced form of it) makes the world go round. *Currently working at Philippine International Convention Center, where she began services 21 years ago, Kathryn Valladolid Ebrahim is an alumna of St. Scholastica's College-Manila; she finished a degree in Bachelor of Arts, Major in Sociology, at University of Sto.
