Filipino golfers representing Winnipeg led by Manny Aranez won 3rd place honours in the Inaugural Fil-Can Intercity Golf Tournament held in Calgary, Alberta last month. Based on the popular Ryder Cup format, competing teams of Filipino golfers from Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg came together to showcase the best in Filipino golf talent in the Canadian prairies. Edmonton took home the championship while Vancouver captured 2nd place. Vancouver plays host to the 2023 tournament next summer.

Immigration Advisory Council Wraps Up Summer Tour

Manitoba’s Immigration Advisory Council hosted a series of public meetings to inform its recommendations on improvements to Manitoba’s current immigration policies and programs. The Council sought input from Manitobans on a wide range of topics, including the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. Manitoba’s current immigration policies have been successful in attracting new immigrants to the province, and the Council wants to ensure that these policies continue to meet the needs of Manitobans. The public meetings were an opportunity for Manitobans to have their say on how Manitoba’s immigration policies can be improved. The focus of the council includes: building on promotion to attract and recruit more immigrants and business investors to the province; streamlining the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program, especially with regard to setting the right balance between the province’s regional labour market, economic development and community needs; and fostering Manitoba’s settlement and integration programs and services, as well as foreign credential recognition programs, to encourage labour market attachment, improve foreign credential recognition and bolster immigrant retention. A total of twelve meetings throughout Manitoba were held this summer. Cities and towns included Winnipeg, Beausejour, Dauphin, Swan River, Thompson, Brandon, Neepawa, Altona, Steinbach and Arborg.

The Annual Randy Viray Financial Charity Golf tournament was a huge success! Over 144 golfers took to the fairways and greens at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club last month, raising money for the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation and St. Gianna's Building Fund. The annual tournament now in it's 23rd year was organized by Randy Viray, and his team of volunteers. The event was a huge success, thanks to the hard work of the organizers and the generosity of the golfers. The charities are grateful to everyone who participated in the tournament and helped to make it such a success.

The Department of Migrant Workers is set to impose stricter initiatives to ensure the safety of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), focusing on domestic workers such as the creation of a "white list" of recruitment agencies. According to DMW Secretary Susan Ople, the department wants to take a "right-based" approach in its securing the welfare of the OFWs. The Philippine Overseas Labor Offices is also tasked to review its current and create new verification guidelines for OFWs. Part of DMW's plans is the also implement stricter guidelines that would cater the qualified and fully-trained domestic helpers for deployment.

Iasked my late grandfather, when he was still alive, how his childhood and teenage life was. He was born in 1915, so for him it was the 1920s and the 1930s. He had many good stories to tell about those decades. He was raving about his experiences, both the happy recollections and the not-so-happy ones. To his perspective, his generation was the best. I enjoy asking my mom (born in 1947) about her teenage days, in the 1960s. She has lots of happy memories culled from it, especially about her school friends and her cousins and the times they spent together. In the 2060s, when my now 13-year-old son will have been in his 50s, he will surely tell his children (if in case he will have had children by the time) about how great his childhood and teen life was. He will be referring to the 2010s and the 2020s. He will surely reminisce about his happy (and even not-sohappy) childhood and teenage life. Despite everything, the 2010s and the 2020s will, for him, be the best time in his life. Every time my son and I talk about life, I tell him about my own childhood and teenage experiences-in the '70s and the '80s. Many of my great experiences, as well as sad moments, were of those decades. It's sad, if we really think about it, that people from the previous centuries were all long dead and gone, so no one from them can tell anymore how great their own young lives Everywere. decade is great. It has both the good and the bad sides. No single generation has the monopoly of having the best of times. DSWD to give cash aid to indigent students until September 24

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will provide assistance to indigent students every Saturday until September 24, Secretary Erwin Tulfo announced last August 18th. Tulfo said in a palace briefing, DSWD will give out P1000 for elementary students, P2000 for high school students, P3000 for senior high school students, and P4000 for college students or vocational courses. Up to three beneficiaries per family are allowed. The cash aid will help students from poor families to buy their school supplies or whatever they need in school. Families can book an appointment or walk-in designated DSWD offices with the student's enrollment certificate and school ID.

PALACE: Expect more sugar warehouses inspection in the coming days

On August 18 at a press conference, Press secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles mentioned that the Bureau of Customs had exercised its "visitorial powers" in a warehouse in Pampanga as part of the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr to check warehouses that could be hoarding smuggled sugar amid issues in importation and rise in the price of the said commodity. After the inspection of the Pampanga warehouse, another operation in Bulacan was also conducted. No further details were provided as of this writing, as Malacanang is not sure if the operation has been finished. But one thing is for sure, Cruz-Angles said, the operation will be a series of raids. Representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry and Sugar Regulatory Administration have inspected the Pampanga warehouse to check if there was a hoarding of sugar.

Fifteen Filipino women entrepreneurs are probable recipients of the Federal's $55 million fund announced by Mary Ng, the federal minister of international trade, export promotion, small business, and economic development, last Monday when she graced the forum for female entrepreneurs organized by MP Kevin Lamoureux, Winnipeg North, at MinisterPCCM.Ng said: "Funds creation was the result of plenty of evidence that women business owners represent a segment of the economy that has faced plenty of barriers to accessing capital for years."At the PCCM forum, Minister Mary Ng emphasized that they will work much closer with the women entrepreneurs of Winnipeg with the help of the Women's Enterprise Organization of Canada which is based in ManyWinnipeg.questions were raised especially the need for a business plan to apply for a loan, and someone suggested that there should be a clearing office to help the female entrepreneurs to hurdle some of the myriad requirements for business loans. Federal and provincial support for taxes and lessening the government's bureaucracy.

It all began when Trump and Kushner became business partners in their real estate business and Kushner ended up marrying Trump’s daughter Ivanka. Trump took Kushner under his wings, giving him several highprofile assignments that included overseeing the construction of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, strategizing an end to the IsraeliPalestinian conflict, and overhauling the GOP platform. Kushner became the president's right-hand man and, according to The Washington Post, was known to defend him in the early days of Donald's political career. Kushner even kept his own cancer diagnosis a secret so as to not distract Trump from important trade talks with China. But since President Trump left office in January 2021, shortly after the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Kushner has distanced himself from politics and reportedly said he wants a "simpler relationship" with his father-in-law, according to the New York Times. Recently, he and his wife Ivanka testified against her father regarding the January 6 attack, driving a wedge deeper between Donald and his daughter and son-in-law.Recently, Kushner praised President Biden, saying he thought Biden was making a “smart diplomatic move.”Initially, Kushner helped Trump cling to power. He was involved with Trump’s scheme to overturn President Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election. According to four people familiar with the matter, in the week following Election Day in early November of that year, Kushner took charge in overseeing the development of plans to keep Trump in office. Kushner repeatedly met with Trump and other highranking aides to Trump to discuss and map out possible strategies for multi-pronged legal battles and a scorched-earth messaging war against the victorious Biden campaign. The mole Then he decided to bail out when things went awfully nasty. He withdrew from the battle –which was getting bloody -- and started washing his hands. In a final act of betrayal, Kushner and Ivanka testified against Trump before the January 6th Subcommittee, which makes one wonder: Was Kushner the mole inside Mar-a-Lago who provided the FBI with information about the safe and other top-secret documents hidden at Mar-a-Lago?

ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2022, the FBI executed a search warrant on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump said in a statement that "a large group" of FBI agents was searching his Mar-a-Lago home, accusing the bureau of prosecutorial misconduct and suggesting the raid was politically motivated to prevent him from running for president in 2024. Then Attorney General Merrick Garland dropped a nuclear bomb! Omigosh! Garland claimed that some of the classified documents were of the “nuclear” type. Suddenly, the whole game changed. The FBI started searching for classified material about nuclear weapons.

In a stunning new development, the FBI seized 11 top-secret documents from Mar-a-Lago, some of which could cause damage to U.S. national security. The FBI is currently investigating allegations that Trump violated the Espionage Act and other laws related to national security.

Three sections of Title 18 of the United States Code are listed on the search warrant. Section 793 covers the unlawful retention of defense-related information that could harm the United States or aid a foreign adversary. Section 1519 covers destroying or concealing documents to obstruct government investigations or administrative proceedings. Section 2071 covers the unlawful removal of government records. Violating the Espionage Act carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Nuclear documents

Citing sources familiar with the investigation, the Washington Post reported that government officials were deeply concerned that the nuclear documents believed to be stored at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence could fall into the wrong hands.Separately, the New York Times reported the documents were related to some of the most highly classified U.S. programs, and that officials feared they were vulnerable to be stolen from Trump’s home by foreign adversaries.

Among the materials retrieved were classified documents, including some marked "top secret" that were only meant to be viewed at secure government facilities.

The Espionage Act of 1917 was established during World War I— protecting the spread of sensitive information that could harm the country or otherwise give an advantage to others.

Some Trump allies insist that potential Espionage Act investigation would only strengthen his standing in a 2024 Republican presidential primary. GOP strategists claim that he’d be unbeatable in a Republican primary. However, it’s not clear at this point whether he’d win the presidency in 2024, particularly if he would be indicted of violating the Espionage Act. Trump claimed that he had “standing order” to declassify documents. But to declassify documents, there is an “elaborate documented process for declassification,” which can take months.But Trump’s latest defense is: Everyone ends up having to bring home his or her work from time to time. But Trump is no longer in office – he’s retired. He had no business handling top-secret documents.Alawyer for Trump said that all investigations into Trump would stop if he were to announce he wouldn’t run for president in 2024.

The Washington Post said their sources did not give details about the nuclear documents, such as whether it involved U.S. weapons or those of foreign countries. Sensitive information about U.S. nuclear weapons is usually restricted to a small number of government officials, noting that material about U.S. weapons could be an intelligence coup for adversaries, and that other nations could see classified U.S. information about their nuclear programs as a threat. A Justice Department source told the Washington Post that topsecret intel like nuclear information would cause law enforcement to quickly want to recover any sensitive documents that are harmful to U.S. security.“Ifthat is true, it would suggest that material residing unlawfully at Mar-a-Lago may have been classified at the highest classification level,” said the former head of the Justice Department’s counterintelligence section. According to the Washington Post, allies of Trump, alarmed and shocked by the details in the unsealed search warrant, are starting to distance themselves and “go dark.” Nobody wants to be associated with any potential criminal act, particularly when it involves national security.
