Floyd Mayweather snubbed the press conference at Resorts World Manila (RWM) disappointing writers and photographers who waited for almost nine hours for his appearance. The media conference was set at 3 p.m but it was already past 11 p.m. when RMW Corporate Communication head Joee Guilas officially announced that Mayweather was not coming. The 42-year old undefeated American boxer reportedly went to see beauty doctor Vicki Belo

in Makati and was expected to proceed to the RWM but was seen shopping at Greenbelt instead. Fight fans initially thought that Mayweather was going to announce an update on his projected rematch with Pacquiao, whom he beat in their May 2015 showdown.

204 Neighbourhood Watch heads for spring cleaning of parks and playgrounds

S

pring has sprung and the truth to the matter, is the best time to the clean the parks and the playgrounds and at the same time, to recover some needles, separate plastic bottles from condoms, and other tasks to make the surrounding clean and livable. And the 204 Neighbourhood Watch is on the run to focus on the spring cleaning tasks. "A productive evening last Thursdy, we found and removed a lot of used condoms and baggies from the Valour Community Centre park and playground. We thank our

patroller Pastor James Castronuevo for officially opening the Mabuhay Baptist Church as one of the 204 Neighbourhood Watch quarters we need a venue at the West End," says Leila Castro, head of the group. Another highlight of the evening is the Climacosa brothers, Rommel and Rhodel (owners of Climacosa Services and business owner at AIM World Rhodel is also an active 204 Neighbourhood Watch patroller) handing to us their $2,000 dollar donations. This fund will be used as

204NW helps more neighbourhoods set up of their own patrolling group, and for various safety initiatives and projects of the group. Thank you, Rommel and Rhodel. We also thank Bakerite for providing the weekly patroller snacks. By Wednesday, April 3rd, 204 Neighbourhood Watch will be joining the Wolseley Watch in its launch of spring patrolling. 204 Neighbourhood Watch mentored Wolseley Watch and helped them with patrolling logistics.

“Rash of homicides ‘taxing ‘ police.” Deadly record: city could break murder mark as police investigate 10th homicide” “Gone too Soon, “ “Multiple cops assaulted in string of incidents”, “Winnipeg police unit to target guns and gangs!” “Shootings propel rising homicide rates” “Man charged in teen’s death” “Forum to focus on fear of violence in faith community.” These are the blaring headlines and blurbs in the various newspapers after the record breaking homicide cases reaching a mercurial high of more than 10 homicides cases, more than doubled as compared the number of crime cases against lives and properties in the same month last 2018. And as a background, in 2018, the following media coverage on the proliferation of methamphetamine is alarming! LIke: at CBC: “Drugs, particularly the growing use of methamphetamine are fueling crime in the city and putting a huge strain on City Police Services:”and in Global TV: “Rise in violent gun crimes connected to the rise of meth use!”And in the Sun, the headline is nerving: 2018 in Review: Meth, violence and a city in crisis!” And in Free Press: “Meth, madness and misery, cheap, easy to find incredibly powerful and addictive crystal meth is holding Manitoba hostage!”

And will keep you trembling with the stats in 2017: Possession charges for meth 890% increase since 2012! And I repeat 890% increase since 2012! Winnipeg as Narco-City since 2012, no wonder people are screaming for safety, people in the various communities are arming themselves against people , especially those, repeat offenders to raise havoc in my family or in your family. And in the last issue of the Filipino Journal, the regular column of Dr. Denise Koh, Manitoba’s Chief Occupational Medical Officer and a Medical Officer of Health in Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness, writes: “Methamphetamine or meth is a powerful, highly addictive manmade stimulant known for its euphoric effects and the energy it triggers in users. The drug is cheap, relatively easy to get and make, and the high lasts for several hours. On top of that, there is NO IMMEDIATE ANTIDOTE, such as naloxone for opiate users.” And read this with so much attention, as Dr. Koh writes further, “Meth use is quite prevalent in Manitoba. In fact, it is now the most-reported primary drug of use among people accesssing care at Addiction Foundation of Manitoba (AFM) facilities, with an increase of ovder 50% over the last few years. The Manitoba Nurses Union reported

a 1,200% increase in meth-related emergency room visits since 2013. There have been numerous recent meth-related violent incidents, like the latest victim, a young and hopeful man, Jimmy Adao, Jr, who met his untimely death from a man fueled by meth. After all of these reality checks and balances on the prevalent of meth, would you consider that the City of Winnipeg has been a narco-city for many years and getting worse every year? The Winnipeggers deserve a safe city, a city where newcomers had longed to stay and live and raise a family? What happened to the victims, and to their families? Lives are stolen by people who are addicted to meth and in most cases, the perpetrators are known to the police as repeat offenders, the recipients of what we called: “revolving door kind of justice” when these criminals and killers are back to the community to raise hell! I cannot blame those families who have many plans to have a safety home, a safety place for their children: most homes now are secured by special locks, some have installed CCTV, and built a cross-bar to avoid intruders high on drugs; and to top them all, they want to be armed with guns to protect themselves and their children. And who will be the next victim? Someone you love most, or some of your friends’ children? or the children of the police officer, judges and elected and appointed members in our government? Jimmy Adao, Jr, known to us as Jimboy, had all the ambitions in life but his life was cut short and now he is a part of the hair-raising crime statistics in the city known as Narco-City of Winnipeg!

The Road to Heavenly Hana

M

aking the most of our travel to Maui, the Valley Isle and the best island on earth according to the Conde Nast Travelers, we considered it mandatory to challenge the beautiful drive along the world-famous road to heavenly Hana. (When will you come to this place again?) This time it is more about the journey through valleys. beaches, bamboo and lush rainforests, waterfalls, landscapes, and cliffs than the final destination. The famed Hana Highway (Hwy. 36) of 53 miles along the coast of Maui with no billboards and no signs along the way to indicate stops or points of interest twists and turns 617 times on very narrow two lanes often going down to one and passing over 56 picturesque aging one-lane bridges. So by necessity we take it slow; this is not a trip for tentative drivers or those prone to carsickness. (Note: Billboards are banned in Hawaii since 1927 thereby enhancing the attractiveness of the Aloha State. In addition to Hawaii, three other states in the U.S. prohibit billboard advertising - Vermont in 1966, Maine in the early 80's and Alaska in 1998.) We start our journey from the cool, laid-back town of Pa'ia with a full tank of gas early at 8:30 in the

morning. (Avoid driving at night.) An old sugar mill town and now surrounded by sugar cane and pineapple fields, Pa'ia is known for its wide variety of art galleries and antique shops. Driving time is approximately 3 hours to Hana, much longer if you stop at the numerous sites along the way. Just a few minutes east we experience Ho'okipa Beach Park, a mecca to windsurfing . Ho'okipa means "hospitality" in Hawaiian. Surfers have flocked to this white sand beach since the 1930's due to its wind-blown waves breaking across a system of reefs across the bay and

The good news is that the answers are now out there and easily accessible. Seek the truth and you will find it. Make sure you probe more deeply than you might think to do. Palace says Polong’s ‘drug video’ mere black propaganda Malacañang thru Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the video linking former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte in the illegal drug trade is just black propaganda. The video said to be the first episode of a series titled “Ang Totoong Narco List,” was uploaded on YouTube on April 1. The video showed a list of code names allegedly being used by principals and their kickbacks which were deposited in the bank

accounts of the supposed drug lords. The male narrator in the video claimed that the code name “POLODELTA-TSG01” was the Presidential Son Paolo Duterte based on his initials. The video further tagged Agriculture Undersecretary Waldo Carpio as Polong’s supposed dummy in the transactions. Carpio is the brother of lawyer Mans Carpio, the husband of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
