he is quite active and well loved in the 204FM community. 204 Admin Elaine Tumbokon is perhaps one of the busiest persons in Winnipeg. Her hard work and generousity are paying off because tons of blessings are coming her way. In just 8 months, she earned the Tupperware 2 Star Director position level, not to mention the brand-new car and travels that Tupperware awarded to her. Elaine celebrated her birthday 3 weeks ago. At 35, Elaine is the epitome of beauty, success and fulfillment. She was glowing at the party, and it was obvious that her heart was overflowing with happiness. I thought of asking the birthday girl a few questions and sharing here her answers: At 35, how happy are you, and why? “Thirty five! Wow! That's getting closer to 40.... hahaha! When I look back at all these years, I am so much happy, contented and blessed to be where I am right now, surrounded by awesome people who I call my families and friends. I feel so loved beyond words can ever express. Above all, what makes me happier is God's goodness. I am
so incredibly blessed by Him, in many, so many ways.” You've been a great help to the Filipino Community in Manitoba being an Admin of 204FM. What drives you to do things that benefit the community? “I just love the people, I love being of help to them, in assistance and answering their queries the best way I can. What I like most about what I do is that with just being there for the community, unknowingly I am making a difference. It’s most rewarding to see a change of any kind that benefits the community as a whole. Being an Admin of this huge 204FM Facebook page is never easy, we encounter all the so called "walk of life" here, we deal with all the aspects of being on top of the fast-paced running posts -from buying to selling, from being moderator of complaints, solving issues, dealing with and stopping bashers, to policing illegal posts and more. But in a little over 2 years of 204FM’s existence in the community, I never got tired of doing what I do; it gives me joy as it gives me the sense of accomplishment. Sometimes in public, people recognize me and some even say "thank you" to

me for attending to their simple inquiries or questions; and they acknowledge those simple gestures that impacted their lives – like some were able to process their parents’ tourist application because I guided them even if they're strangers to me; or some were able to put up and obtain the license for their small business here in Winnipeg.” What is your goal for 204/Filipino Community in Manitoba? “I'd like to see 204FM exist even to the next generation, as I believe that It is a useful virtual page that can help not just the business people but the whole of the community in general. The vision is to have it running for as long as there is Facebook. In today's world, social media is the most effective means of marketing, and so by having 204FM, we've created virtual community connecting families, new friends, and creating new services and building small businesses. We've helped each other in so many ways. 204FM's Mission is to be a "Connected Filipino Community" in Canada, to grow its number of members, and for each member to individually positively grow because we are able to take advantage of the good stuffs available for us and about us being Filipino living here in Manitoba -- from 'bili na suki', Filipino bayanihan, to Canadian road discipline and surviving winter. We sell, we buy, we share,

we care, we give. We celebrate oneness and welcome inclusion (sponsor o hindi, may business or wala.. sige post lang ng post as everyone is welcome); putting end to unhealthy business competition to reap win-win situation, because 204FM is a huge strong market for everyone. The 204FM Admins are happy to help bring these tools for you. We feel a deep responsibility to make the most of our time here and serve you the best way we can.” What an amazing woman! She truly deserves all the good things she has right now. I wish Elaine good health, happiness and continuous abundance. By the way, exciting events are happening this month! A new branch of Jimel’s Bakery’s will open soon at the corner of Inkster and Sheppard, possibly before Christmas. On December 16 Saturday, 204 Filipino Marketplace will hold the Annual Christmas Party at PCCM from 11am to 3pm. Tons of raffle prizes will be given away. Everyone is invited, no entrance fee, just bring potluck food.

Roger Le Grand Park Unveiling Ceremony Monday, November 20, 2017 | Written by City Councillor Mike Pagtakhan, Point Douglas Ward
T
his morning, in the Point Douglas Ward, I had the honour and privilege of hosting a park renaming. Joining me was the entire student population of 600 plus students of Meadows West School, Winnipeg School Division dignitaries, several neighbours and members of the Meadows West community, teachers & staff of Meadows West School, and Mr. Roger Le Grand's family. Today was indeed a great day for the Meadows West Community! We celebrated the spirit of advocacy, community engagement & collaboration, and of Mr. Le Grand's vision & unwavering tenacity that transformed an essentially barren green space into a relevant community amenity!
I still remember my initial conversations with Mr. Le Grand. In 2010 the Meadows West Community became part of the Point Douglas ward, and in early 2011 Mr. Le Grand and I had a meeting where I learned quickly about many of the "issues" of Rose Hill Park from the poor water drainage, to the ageing playground structure that had many safety issues, to the need for more seating. Needless to say it was an enlightening meeting. I immediately discerned a couple of things: that the park needed lots of work and secondly that Mr. Le Grand was a very passionate advocate! To ensure the redevelopment of Rose Hill Park reflected the needs of the community, both Mr. Le Grand and I felt the importance of doing public engagements with the students & with the community. The public engagements ensured that the students were able to select in a democratic fashion which playground amenities they wanted and that the community was able to select the kinds of fitness stations along the fitness trail. The public engagement process also revealed that the community wanted to see several picnic tables along with a shade shelter and seating area.
Mr. Roger Le Grand, whom the park is named after, grew up in Winnipeg’s North End where he attended Robertson School, Andrew Mynarski, Tec Voc and Sisler High School where he graduated with extra credits. He graduated with a Bachelor of Education and Pre-Masters in Education from the University of Manitoba and has been an educator with the Winnipeg School Division for 40 years. Mr. Le Grand has been the Principal for Meadows West School for the past 11 years. Roger Le Grand has always had passion to teach young people, and his love of learning is something he has always wanted to share with others from an early age. It has been truly an honour to work alongside an inspirational gentleman. A wonderful person who has been a great leader for the school, parents and especially the

Meadows West community. As an educator, community member and a lifelong North Winnipeg resident, Mr. Le Grand has dedicated himself to advocating for children and the importance of learning for all. Foremost 20th century poet, William Butler Yeats said that "education is not about filing pails, it's about lighting fires." Mr. Le Grand's vision was the spark and bright flame that inspired me, the students and the community for the redevelopment of Rose Hill Park. I thought to myself, what would be the best way to honour the incredible story of the student & community collaboration for the park, than to rename this park as Roger Le Grand Park. Nearly one year ago today, Winnipeg City Council unanimously supported my motion to rename Rose Hill Park to Roger Le Grand Park. When Winnipeggers come

to visit the park they will come to know of the vision & passion of Mr. Le Grand and of the wonderful community effort that I think truly defines our City!

Jets on the rise
T
he Winnipeg Jets have been on quite the winning streak except for the OT loss earlier this week on the road against the Colorado Avalanche. The Winnipeg Jets pounded the Minnesota Wild 7-2 at Bell MTS Place on Monday, November 27. Seven different players scored for the Jets - Joel Armia, Mark Scheifele, Jacob Truba, Mathieu Perreault, Kyle Conner, Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler. Secondary scoring from the 3rd and 4th lines are also contributing to the team's success. Quality goaltending from Connor Hellebuyck and is amongst the top 10 goalies in the NHL with a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 2.35.
As of Thursday, November 30, the Jets record 15-6-4 places them in 2nd in the Western Conference, 1 point behind the St. Louis Blues and 2 points ahead
of the Nashville Predators. The Jets host the Las Vegas Golden Knights and Ottawa Senators this weekend at Bell MTS Place. Go Jets Go!

Chot Reyes proud of Gilas team
T
he Philippine national basketball team has a lineup of versatile players. This was the assessment of Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes after the team posted with a pair of wins in the first leg of the 2019 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers. Gilas defeated Japan 77-71 in Tokyo last Friday, and followed it
up with a 90-83 shellacking over Chinese Taipei at the Araneta Coliseum on Monday to go 2-0 in Group B. Reyes said the team was built so that it’s not onedimensional because it has a lot of weapons. Reyes also said that the Gilas team players will no doubt lay it all on the line for flag and country.

iddle of a green light. Running at a good speed. Trying to be as observant as I could while crossing a busy intersection.
Then… before reaching the roadside where the traffic lights were… I had a split-second glimpse on something that was coming… directly towards my door! I knew what was going to happen and I had no time to react. The driver of a little car STRANGELY decided to step on the gas pedal instead of the brake while turning left, consequently crashing into my poor travel buddy.
15 Glorious Quotes about the Joy of Christmas CHRISTMAS is not always a happy time for everyone. But GOD wants us to find joy in the season and the celebration - not necessarily because of circumstances, but because of the REASON for the SEASON. JESUS came so that we could haves GOD's joy in all things. If you're struggling with sadness, anxiety, or loneliness at this time of year, I pray that these quotes and verses bring you strength and
joy. 15. "Joy is not necessarily the the absence of suffering, it is the Presence of God." Sam Storms 14. "And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with GOD. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call His name JESUS." He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give Him the

Screech! Boom! …pushed my car’s door in, giving a little bump on my left knee and shattering my glass window completely; sprinkling all the little shards of broken glass onto every corner of my eyes’ points of view. Luckily, I was okay. My car’s engine was still running good, and I was able to still pull it over at the sidewalk, so I wouldn’t interrupt the traffic. I got out of my car, almost unharmed. Almost. I had little bruises on my left hand, caused by the pieces of broken glass. The driver of the other car and her husband were already outside and seemed relieved to see that I was okay. I was, of course, glad to see that they were okay, too. At the adjacent side of the street, the couple parked their car, which had only minor damages on the bumper and left headlights. We talked. Admitting that they were at fault, they let me take pictures of the incident and her license. And guess what? Student driver’s license. She was just starting to learn how to drive, apparently being instructed by her husband at that time. This gives the reason for the adverb that I used earlier—strangely. She was an inexperienced driver who had probably panicked at that moment, prompting her to step on the gas pedal rather than on the brakes.
To my friends who had met my ultra-rare HONDA Jaguar (BMW ed.), revolutionary three-wheeldrive (3WD), very cheaply priced but highly valued old CIVIC, which I named “HaHaYeah.” (It was a classic, sturdy car that I had fun with by adding funny, customized emblems on it. And its plate letters were HHY, thus the name.) Hahaha! Yeah! To it I already said goodbye. Written off. Oh man, we’ve been through a lot. Thanks a lot anyway, buddy! This accident gave me a smack upside the back of my head. It made me realize how dangerous my car was. It had a broken airbag system (SRS light was always on), which I kept on ignoring. My bad. No airbags opened during the accident. If the collision was worse, then my injuries could have been fatal. I might have not been here at all, sharing this story. There are just too many things in life that aren’t part of what we can control. And especially to my Christian friends, please take a deep breath and give a little time to ponder on these couple of verses written by Kings Solomon and David. The prudent sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keeps going and pays the penalty. Proverbs 27:12 | NIV
For the factors that you can control—and we’re not just talking about unsafe driving here—if any act is obviously or proven to be harmful to you, then stop or avoid it as much as possible. I know, I know…easier said than done. But, let’s just use this little story as a reminder to ourselves, all right? Now, what about the other things that aren’t within our control? What else can we do? Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. Psalm 37:3 | NIV Keep our faith, do good works, and always ask for God’s guidance. Stay safe people! Thanks for reading! Have a good day! *Robin Allan Banaag is an engineer in profession. He's a member of Filipino Members Chapter - Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (FMC-EGM), a board member of FilipinoCanadian Technical Professionals Association of MB (FCTPAM), and a music enthusiast whose favorite hobbies aside from engineering works are singing, playing the guitar, writing songs/poems/short stories, and critical thinking. throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." Luke 1: 30-33 13. "I truly believe that if we keep telling the CHRISTMAS story, singing the CHRISTMAS songs, and living the CHRISTMAS spirit, we can bring joy and happiness and peace to this world." Norman Vincent Peale 12. Rejoice, that the immortal GOD is born, so that the mortal man may live in eternity." John Huss 11. "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given." Isaiah 9:6 10. "When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at CHRISTMAS time. Why are we not grateful to GOD for filling our stockings with Legs." John R. Rice 9. "You can never truly enjoy CHRISTMAS until you can look up into the FATHER's face and tell Him you have received the
CHRISTMAS gift." John R. Rice 8. JOY is STRENGTH" Mother Teresa 7. "Take out CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS, and December becomes the bleakest and most colorless month of the year." A.F. Wells 6. "As the bells ring out the joys of CHRISTMAS, may we also be alert for the final trumpet that will announce HIS return, when we shall always be with HIM." Allan Redpath 5. "I am with you always." Matthew 28:20 4. "You may be lonely, poor, and cold, neglected by the children, forgotten by your friends, yet you may have the glad CHRISTMAS joy in your heart as Paul had, shut up in prison cells at Rome." John R. Rice 3. " Hark the herald angels sing, Glory to the Newborn King." Peace on earth, and mercy mild, GOD and sinners reconciled!"
Charles Wesley 2. "Rejoice in the LORD always; again I will say rejoice." Philippians 4:4 1. "If we could condense all the truths of CHRISTMAS into only three (3) words, these these would be the words: 'GOD WITH US.' We tend to focus our attention at CHRISTMAS on the infancy of CHRIST. The greater truth of the holiday is HIS Deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this Promised baby is the OMNIPOTENT CREATOR of the heavens and the earth!" John MacArthur I pray that you can keep these quotes and verses in mind when you feel your joy faltering. At CHRISTMAS time - and all throughout the year - JESUS is with you. Take joy! May GOD richly bless us! Merry Christmas!

s it is oftentimes said, ‘behind a man’s success there’s a woman behind ‘... And of course behind the man’s failure a woman also maybe behind him. Look what happened in this country from 1972 up to 1986. I don’t have to elaborate. Even people who have no keen sense of history know what I wanted to share. I read last week an article in the Philippine Star written by one of the best writers in the country today, Alex Magno where he detailed Zimbabwe’s strong man Robert Mugabe, 93 years old, rise to power in 1980 up to his downfall after the country’s military placed him under house arrest few weeks ago.. I like particularly when he ended his article and I quote:’ There’s a lesson for all leaders thrust to power by events larger than themselves. They must be larger than vainer men. They must learn to be humbled by the responsibilities of power rather than aggrandized by the trappings of high office.’ I hope the three above sentences will be carefully read by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and most especially people close and and who have his ears. Puerto Princesa Underground River (Part II)
F
rom the wide entrance hall called "Daylight Hole", the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River winds around limestone caverns gliding past countless and beautiful speleothems of stalactites (hanging from the cave ceilings) and stalagmites (inverted stalactites rising from the cave floors formed from the drippings of minerals above) in all shapes and sizes and other limestone rock formations. The cave, pitch-black and only lighted by the searchlight provided to each boat, opens up
to an impressively huge cave chamber known as the "Italian Chamber", so named by Italian speleologists, towering some 80 meters high making it look like a grand cathedral capped by a big dome. Inside the cathedral is a phallic structure that rises in the middle resembling a giant melting candle called by the boatman as "The Great Candle" with lines and contours formed by nature. Also on the right side is a rock formation known as "The Holy Family" similar to the Nativity. You could clearly identify the characters as Jesus, Virgin Mary and Joseph.

house restaurant in the province capital city, the Ka Lui, famous for menus of seafood and vegetables, where you have to remove your footwear before entering the eating area. However, for exoting dining try the sizzling crocodile "sisig" or "natamilok" (mangrove worm) at the Kinabuchs Grill & Bar. Unlike the pork sisig, the crocodile sisig has health benefits - good for asthma and heart, low fat/cholesterol and it's also an aphrodisiac! Best time to visit PPUR new wonder of nature is from January to May when the sea is more calm and the weather more sunny.
Palawan is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park, a major sanctuary with most unique and beautiful coral reefs with a great diversity of marine life like whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles, and wrasses. Divers and snorkelers from around the world come here to see and explore the twelve sunken World War II Japanese shipwrecks. United States Navy liberation of the Philippines sea battles between Japan and U.S. occurred here in the island of Palawan particularly at the Coron Reefs located in Busuanga also famous today for its seven enchanting lakes surrounded by limestone cliffs. Before flying back to Manila Ninoy Aiport for one hour and fifteen minutes by Cebu Pacific we have a memorable gastronomic experience at the most popular native wooden
After passing through the cathedral comes the vegetable and fruit market section as described by our hilarious but informative guide with rock formations similar to large cabbage, corn, carrots, cacao fruit, banana blossom, and "sayote". There is also a giant "mushroom-like" limestone figure that also resembles a huge "jellyfish". With a little imagination one formation looks like a nude girl with butt exposed and bears a similarity to Hollywood actress Sharon Stone as coined by our boatman. And then the cold water that emerges directly into the sea with its lower portion subject to low and high tidal influences flows through a straight portion quite similar to a tunnel of a highway coined as the "EDSA", a reference to a major highway in Manila, Philippines. The inner section of the Edsa is the turning point of the boats. After an amazing boat ride we headed back to Sabang port.

Arnel Pineda Is Again a Revelation November 24, 2017 | Club Regent Event Centre and making his own music— something that he had already been doing even before his having become the frontman of the legendary American band. He released his first, self-titled solo album in 1999. His sophomore work, titled AP, followed in 2016. This year, Pineda embarked on a North American tour, backed up by equally prolific and virtuosic session musicians—guitarist Perf de Castro (formerly of Rivermaya and Triaxis), drummer Wendell Garcia (Triaxis, Barbie’s Cradle, and Pupil), bassist Don Morales, guitarist Butch Victoriano (South Border), and keyboardist Raffy Mendoza. The Winnipeg leg of Pineda’s tour was successful, as evidenced by the size of the audience that attended it and the rapturous response to every song that Pineda and his band delivered with electrifying energy and gyrating gusto. Despite the lack of any Journey song on the setlist, the whole experience was still worthwhile, as this was compensated by Pineda’s dishing out in stellar glory equally engaging Pop Rock songs that
included Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”; Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Paradise City” and “Sweet Child o’ Mine”; Sampaguita’s “Nosi Ba Lasi?”; a beautiful semiacoustic rendition of Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There for You”; and the apt concert closer “Heaven” by Bryan Adams. Pineda treated the audience with also a few tracks from his recent album that included “Ewan Ko Ba” and “Owe,” CDs of which were made available at the venue’s lobby. A couple of times did Pineda said thank-you and goodbye to the audience, but the crowd just kept on shouting for more. Pineda and his crew happily obliged, satisfying the concertgoers at the end of the night. And then humbly posing for pictures at the lobby after his high-octane, tiring performance, Pineda delighted his fans and the rest of the production team. The show was a success. This was made possible by the hard work of everyone involved in the production—promoters, volunteers, photographers,

he venue was full house! Buzz was all around. One could feel the energy and excitement amongst the crowd. Local power bands Traffikk Jamm and The 12/21 lifted the spirits of everyone to an even higher level as they each dished out their set of engaging songs. The crowd burst out their suppressed anticipation when the main star of the night finally appeared onstage—lively, bubbly, ready to rock and bring the house down. Many in the audience were expecting Journey songs. That was understandable. After all, Arnel Pineda catapulted to charismatic worldwide popularity when Journey’s founding member/guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain had ultimately decided in 2007 to hire Pineda as their band’s lead vocalist—and the rest was music history. Pineda has already on his sleeves two released Journey studio albums with him on the mic—2008’s Revelation and 2011’s Eclipse. Every time Journey would be on a sabbatical, Pineda would pursue performing on his own, guesting on TV shows,

FAAM Jam on December 14 Why you should join the Filipino Anglers Association of Manitoba
I
f you are reading this article in Angler Management, there is a good chance that you are at the very least a casual angler. Sport fishing for Filipinos in Manitoba is right up there with basketball, karaoke, and line dancing in terms of popular pastimes. The relatively recent explosion of ice fishing in this region has us Fil-Cans fishing all year round nowadays. The creation of an association that serves the interests of our unique community is something that I feel has long been needed. There are many benefits to being a part of a group of like-minded individuals. As a fledgling organization, let me outline a few points that will hopefully interest you in helping us to grow. 1. A strong collective voice representing the views and concerns of our community. There are perpetually going to be issues, initiatives, and policies regarding angling in this province. Things as macro as E-licensing to micro level stuff such as the closing of a waterway access point could be items that we would weigh in on. With FAAM, we plan to have our viewpoints and input heard by the powers that be. 2. Sharing of knowledge amongst anglers. I learned half of what I know about angling through networking with other enthusiasts.

‘Talking fishing’ as many of you can relate, is almost as fun as actually going fishing itself. During our bimonthly meetings, we encourage members to share fishing reports, tips, and techniques. Whether through casual conversation, from someone ‘on the mic’, or on our online pages, you will definitely

become a better angler and help others learn things as well. 3. Group events and fishing trips. From association derbies and competitions to organized excursions and family daytrips, we plan to have fun all year long doing something we all enjoy. Dip your feet into the world of competitive fishing with various events for fun or for prizes. Explore new waters and experiences as part of our group. Don’t have a boat, not a problem as we have many members who would welcome new mates on their vessels. 4. Store discounts and special offers. Much like several other angling associations in the province, we plan to negotiate a few store discounts for our members. 10% off at local tackle retailers for all card-carrying continuation on page 25

FAAM members is something all of us addicted to this expensive hobby could use I’m sure. As a group we would also be eligible to receive occasional special VIP offers from companies and manufacturers. 5. Much like our name suggests, we are family. From our family-

friendly atmosphere to our camaraderie as fellow anglers, we welcome any and all to become a part of our association. We are not a group of elitists, meaning you don’t have to know much if anything at all about fishing to be a productive and valued member of the group. Many of us speak Tagalog, some of us speak Ilocano, and almost all of our existing membership at the very
least understand Filipino (not just the bad words). We are also not a long time group of friends that would be intimidating to break into. The majority of us have only met through this first year of the association. Looking to expand your knowledge about the sport? Looking to meet new fishing buddies? Looking to fish new waters and species? Looking for
an activity and group that your entire family can join? Basically we have something for everyone who decides to join FAAM. These are only a few of the reasons. Members can be involved as much or as little as they wish or are available to be. We meet every second month at different venues. Our next meeting is our AGM at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Check the accompanying poster for
complete information. We hope to see you there. Please join our public Facebook page to keep up to date regarding upcoming meetings of the association.
