MVP Hopeful for Gilas’ race to Rio
T
he path to Rio Olympics is undeniably tough with powerhouse teams- France, Canada and New Zealand on the hunt. The Road may be tough but Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Manny V. Pangilinan has high hopes for the national team, Gilas Pilipinas. Gilas is on the works in forming the best possible team as they prepare for the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament on July 5-10 on our own turf. Philippines will be facing the toughest teams in the group (B). PH will kick off its bid against France on July 5 and will face New Zealand the next day. Group A includes Canada and Turkey. Only one team will make it to the 2016 Olympics in Rio. “Of course (the expectation is), no less than the opportunity to

participate in Rio. I’d like to see Filipino players, Filipino athletes belong to the Olympic movement again, not only in basketball but in other sports,” Pangilinan said Saturday night. “We need Filipino fans to come out there fully and support the team. I think it will be a big boost to the team’s effort,” he said.
Senate approves speed limiter in buses
T
he installation of speed limiter in every public utility buses, as well as trucks, has been approved by the senate committee. This is to prevent and minimize road accidents related to overspeeding. No public utility bus will be allowed access in any roads, streets, or highways under Senate Bill 2999 unless such device is installed. The Bill proposes a maximum speed limit of 60 kph for travelling in EDSA, and 80 kph for expressways. A fine not exceeding P100,000 and suspension of franchise will be imposed on bus operators who will fail to comply. According to Senator JV Ejercito, road related accidents increased in the past years and overspeeding is one of the primary causes. He added that bus riders are most at risk when exposed to these kinds of accidents based on a study conducted by the UP National Center for Transport Studies in 2014.
Filipino Journal Ron Cantiveros
February 5-20, 2016
"The study gives emphasis to the fact that a bus is six times more at risk than a car, and five times more than a jeepney," Ejercito said. "We have long been shocked by news reports of over speeding buses and families instantly losing their loved-ones due to freak accidents. This Speed Limiter Bill is our solution to eliminate killer buses. Let us not wait for another bus accident for us to act on this,” he said.

Vic also revealed he apologized to his children regarding the change in his priorities. Pauleen and Vic were married on Saturday evening at St. James the Great Parish in Muntinlupa City. A lesson to learn from a 6-year old orphan who makes people smile as reported by CBS Have you smiled today? I guess not! Lately, a CBS News host at the end of his broadcast, in the Facebook YouTube with more than 35 million views, told a story of a 6-year old orphan in Savanah, Georgia who has an enormous power , the power to lift the spirit. According to the CBS on the road reporter Steve Hartman " this little boy is sick and tired seeing everyone is sad every time." Why most people don't smile? Have you been in some banks, or in some restaurants or just in a coffee shop, or in one of the offices in downtown? Have you noticed that the majority of people look sad while working in the front line, an office worker or the tellers; or a server; or a barista, or a receptionist? I have so much time to go around and to meet many people in all walks of life. And I could count few happy faces, mostly sad.

that a 6-year old orphan will give toys expecting nothing in return except smile, of course he is paid handsomely in hugs," Hartman said. A 6-year old orphan who made people smile? The story of this 6-year old orphan boy is so heart warming making people smile whenever he gave the toys. People smiled. People found themselves caught by the power of this little boy to lift the spirit. telling us that we have forgotten this special spice in life. Compare yourself to this 6-year old orphan who has the mission to lift the spirit, to let people smile. I have been to many places, and I do observe that most people do not smile. So serious that probably he or she has had a worst night and bring that sadness in the work place, in the restaurants, in the coffee shop. Or he or she is bored with his or her work. Do we have to live up to the Manitoba's slogan or tagline? And how many muscles are used when you smile? "One deep-fried-Zen adage advises: It takes 13 muscles to smile and 33 to frown. Why overwork? (The Washington Post, 5 Dec.'82) Or do we need to invite this 6-year old orphan to lift our spirit, to make us smile, and to make the true meaning of being a Friendly Manitoba. And to beat the heart of the continent with glee! Don't OVERWORK! SMILE!
And most of the time, I wonder if the tag line for Manitoba is just a tagline or a cold slogan: Friendly Manitoba? How friendly are we when most people have difficulty to smile? Understand the latest Provincial tagline: Heart of the continents. It beats! In what way? Lets go back to the story of this 6-year old boy whose father died when he was 4 years old; and then, lately, his mother died on sleep. He said that it's sad that his mom died lately. "But there is another side of his grief", the reporter said. "One day, the little boy told his guardian that he is sick and tired seeing everyone is sad all the time. And he had a plan to fix it, continued by the reporter, "And the boy told to his guardian to buy small toys." The boy and the guardian went downtown in Savanah,Georgia and started giving away the toys to strangers. (Next Issue: Rodrigo Duterte and Everyone who received Donald Trump? What do they the toys smiled. "It it is so have in common?) overwhelming to some people

Roach: Pacquiao may still consider fighting
O
bservers, including Freddie Roach, think the boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, will still continue fighting despite announcing his retirement after his fight with Timothy Bradley this April. Roach says a lot depends on whether Manny wins the senatorial race or not. Pacquiao is running for senator under the party of VP Jejomar Binay and currently ranking at 8th place among other senatoriables. Looking at a possible scenariodefeating Bradley will make him WBO welterweight champion. He may be prompted into defending the title even though he’s already a senator. “I do know Manny well, though. He would love to be the senator who defended his title someday. I don’t think
this fight with Bradley is his last fight for some reason,” Roach continued. “I just don’t see it because he has a lot left in him. His work ethic is still great. I’d be disappointed if this was his last fight. I’ve been with him a long time, we had a great run. I’ll support whatever he does,” Roach added.

US to fund Philippine camps under EDCA
T
he US congress has allotted 66 million USD for the building of 8 military camps in the Philippines under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) as stated by US Ambassador to the Philippines, Philip Goldberg yesterday during e media forum. “Let me point out that we have about $66 million in foreign military funding in process for the Philippines and we expect that there will be additional sources of funds for both carrying out EDCA to military construction funds and also to increases in what we call the maritime security initiative,” Goldberg said at the Pandesal Forum in Quezon City. “So we will work through all of those figures and also working with our Congress,
which of course you have to deal with as well in terms of what the Philippines may bring to the table,” he added. The ambassador also made it clear that the US will not construct a new military base under EDCA.

Horoscope Getting closer to a certain person could boost your chances of success. Your drive is very strong and determined in reaching your goal. It would be best to sort out your priorities to avoid being overwhelmed.
Collaboration on an exciting and creative project could make you busy this week. This could be worth your while as long as it doesn’t clash with your career and other responsibilities.
This week will give you the opportunity to work on your priorities, especially in the financial sector. Think about an item if it’s a good investment before purchasing it. It pays to be very careful in not wasting your time and your resources.
You might doubt yourself due uncertainties in your direction. Someone may encourage you to follow your own steps, but you are not confident enough. Try to take baby steps in pursuing your goals. Clear your mind and things will fall into place.
This is a positive week to apply some lifestyle changes. You’ll make better progress if you focus on your new year’s resolution at this time. Opinions on personal matters may clash with that of a significant other. You need to discuss it in order to make progress.
Determination in resolving an issue or a project will pay off this week. You might need a heart-to-heart talk with your family or friends so that they can understand your situation as they may have different opinions on how you can move forward.
Don’t be in such a hurry in pursuing a creative project or a potential romance. Instant results could work against you so take your time and reflect on things. Things may work out better over the long term.
You could lack confidence about a plan or a relationship as this week may encourage you to clear away your emotional baggage. This is a good time to face whatever is holding you back so that you can forge ahead with your enthusiasm.
A decision is important in taking advantage of an opportunity. Your friends may counter you in your enthusiasm on a particular project. Don’t take them seriously and just embrace the possible good outcome.
PAHALANG
This is a great time to team-up with a person or group who share the same ideas with you. Your friends seem to support your cause but you may experience some friction with some members of the family. Adjusting your perspective a little bit can make a difference.
You seem eager to forge ahead, but a part of you may be dreaming of freedom to do your own thing. You’ll have to work on it, especially if you have big plans for the future. Align your reality with your dreams and goals to attain them.
Trust your intuition as it may be telling you something important. This week encourages you to speak out your ideas and opinions. Doing so may put you in an odd situation but at least you are doing something that you feel is right.

House bloc- President Aquino accountable for the deaths of SAF 44
M
embers of the independent bloc of the House of Representatives stated yesterday that President Aquino is to hold accountable for the deaths of the SAF 44 in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last year. “Taken in its totality, the onus of responsibility for the Mamasapano massacre falls squarely in the hands of President Aquino,” the bloc said in its report. The repost was presented by Representatives Martin Romualdez of Leyte, Lito Atienza of Buhay and Jonathan de la Cruz of Abakada. According to the House bloc, Aquino, as chief commander, failed to execute and provide guidance and leadership in the planning which led to the grim outcome of Oplan Exodus. “He approved and directed the mission using inputs from a limited circle of subordinates, principally then suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima and SAF chief Getulio Napeñas,” read the report. It is reported that Aquino was in Zamboanga City along with cabinet members and highranking military and police officers on the day of the police raid. “In fine, he was in a position to have stepped in at the early stages of the firefight and prevented the heavy loss of lives. That he did not order a more determined effort to rescue the troops and… perhaps
even to the extent of talking directly to his peace partner, MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) chairman Murad Ibrahim, to stop the firefight instead of ‘bureaucratizing’ the ceasefire and rescue operations has fuelled suspicions that he actually issued a ‘stand down’ order to the troops,” read the report. “The MILF must share responsibility for the deadly outcome of this campaign… they should have taken every available step to turn in the high value targets (suspected terrorists) in accordance with their commitments under the ceasefire and related agreements with the government,” read the report. Former senator Richard Gordon questioned why Aquino failed to order a signal to coordinate with MILF to cease hostilities right away.

Gordon firmly pressed that as president of our country, Aquino swore to execute all laws in the country including protecting police officers.

Parehas naman ang aming paniniwala, iba lang lens ang ginagamit namin,” she said. Roxas is focusing on making national policies, while Robredo is focusing on addressing local issues.
