Women of Courage

Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage. -Maya Angel PART I March is the international women month. I am proud to share the stories of three Pinay Winnipeggers who I admire for their wisdom and courage.

Rochelle recently opened the Middle Eastern restaurant Les Saj with two co-owners. She is married to a Syrian. Mary Mallari or more popularly known as “Mama M” is social media personality and Papa Dee’s co-host in AYOS Live FB. She is always full of life, what many of you don’t know is just two years ago she lost her husband from cancer. She had to endure hiding pain and suffering just to fulfill her husband’s dying wish.

Julie is a WFG advisor who loves sharing about her knowledge in financial literacy. Julie has helped a lot of people in dealing with labor issues. For 9 years, she served as president of a worker’s union in a large company.

Rochelle Rochelle is married to Baravi, a Syrian. Their love story started in Dubai. Baravi is shy, the quiet type, not aggressive, “torpe”, respectful and family oriented. As described by Rochelle, “He is not flirty.” Rochelle fell for Baravi because of these qualities. Baravi courted Rochelle the Filipino traditional way to the extent that he followed her when she transferred to a different city in UAE. When Rochelle finally gave her “yes”, it was followed by a wedding in Dubai, then in Syria attended by Baravi’s relatives.

When asked what is the feeling of being married to a Syrian, Rochelle said she is very happy with her married life with Baravi, and with how her in laws are treating her. “I converted to Muslim. I was a Catholic. The Emiratis and Saudians, specially the conservative ones, married women wear the abaya (only the eyes are exposed). For the Syrians and Lebanese, what is important is covering the feet. So wearing pants by a married woman is ok as long as her feet are covered. I am lucky that Baravi did not demand from me to put those kinds of cover.

To him he is happy where I am happy, so if I am not comfortable doing something, then I don’t have to do it. My in-laws are so warm to me. When I gave birth to my firstborn, they went to us in Dubai.

My mother in law took care of me and the baby. She cooked good food for us. Another thing I am lucky about the family of Baravi is, while Muslim men may have many wives, I did not see that practiced in his family. His dad only has his mom for his wife. His brother also has one wife.”

Rochelle and Baravi have 2 children. They were both born in Dubai. I asked Rochelle what it is like raising half Flipino and half

Syrian while living in Canada.

She said that at home they speak three languages, Tagalog, Arabic and English. Whatever are the positive values from the mentioned cultures, those are what she imparts to the kids.

Rochelle would like to correct the stereotyping on Muslim people.

“In our country (The Philippines), sometimes we associate them with Abu Sayyaf, some Filipinos think that Arabic are mean and full of pride. Ever since I started working in Dubai, I realized that the good and bad about the person has nothing to do with the ethnicity or religious belief. Even with Filipinos, sometimes we encounter those with such attitude. I also have friends who married Filipinos who cheated on them and physically abused them. I never experienced those with my husband.”

I asked Rochelle, how did the idea of putting up Les Saj come up. “When we were new here in Winnipeg, we would go around to look for authentic food that we ate in Dubai. It was limited here which gave us the idea that perhaps having a restaurant will be a good investment. Initially we thought of just to-go place or food truck, until we found this nice big venue at St. James that would be good spot for the restaurant. But we were thinking, how are we gonna do it?

Baravi talked to his cousin in UAE, a businessman. He encouraged Baravi, he said that he will help.

He shipped to us here in Winnipeg the Les Saj kitchen equipments.”

Rochelle is happy about the feedback she’s been receiving from her customers. “We were able to capture all the tastes (Pinoy, Middle Eastern, Canadian) according to one of our clients. It is our aim for them to enjoy good quality food, to get the value of their money. With our good customer service, we make it a point to go extra mile, as long as it is something within what we can provide. All ingredients are natural and fresh (no cubes), and meat are not pre-frozen. They are certified halal. Because we want total authentic experience, we had equipments and other tools shipped here from UAE - the oven, the saj (this is where bread is made), molder of falafel (similar to the one used to mold polvoron), and others including restaurant decors. It feels good to be seated in a restaurant feeling that you are in another country. Others who entered our restaurant said, look it must be authentic because the cook are Syrians. There were Syrian refugees who started with zero English. But now I am so proud of them as they are now level 4 in terms of English. They also enhanced their customer service skill. We teach them how they deal with people. We have one Syrian refugee employee who

went to Turkey because everything he had back home are gone, then he came to Winnipeg. He was jobless but then we helped him, and he proved himself. His life is ok now. Les Saj currently employs people from various multicultural groups which include, Syrians, Filipinos, Indigenous and others.

We correct the thinking when we sometimes hear comments that our taxes go to refugees, and that they are parasites. They are proving that they came here not to become a liability, that they also know how to work.”

Our menu has many variety to accommodate those who are not so adventurous when it comes to Middle Eastern food. We also receive comment that our place is very welcoming, the staff are warm. The venue is comfortable, and ambiance is different. And lastly, people say that we at Les Saj are all nice and humble, that is a big factor.”

Rochelle shared to me that for her, there is no such thing as perfect life, perfect place; there is nothing perfect. “You have to learn to embrace what you have, to be contented. Do not look for things that do not belong to you.

Be thankful with what you have.

Do not be braggy, always remain a humble/low profile person. It feels good to be humble, everyone is comfortable in talking to you.”

Rochelle added, “I told myself, for the Filipino, I will do this to inspire people. This is Women Power. It is about taking courage to take risks. Don’t depend on other people if you want to reach your dreams. If this is your dream, just go for it, do it, don’t be afraid. Until you achieve it. I used to be a Sales Manager of a hotel, I was selling hotel rooms. At that time I said to myself, how I wish I own the hotel. Because I was just making rich people richer.

Our journey is not easy.

But we are happy because of the overwhelming support we get from people based on reviews on google and social media. It means that we are doing something good. As what Adam (a Les Saj co-owner) said, we are here not just to make money, we are here to share what we have.”

ike Horror, Suspense Thriller movies are usually a hit with adults and even young ones who are in for some kind of puzzling and riveting mysteries. This penchant surely originates from the human tendency to challenge one’s sense of comprehension.

For this issue’s contributor’s column, we are featuring again Caillou Pettis; this time with his review of the Mystery/Crime movie Game Night, which is currently showing at selected theaters in the city. *Caillou Pettis is a Calgaryborn film critic, actor, director, and writer. He reviews films, old and new.

Game Night (A Film Review) An extremely clever script mixed with brilliant comedic performances from both Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams makes Game Night an entertaining treat.

A couple named Max (Bateman) and Annie (McAdams) enjoy getting together with their group of friends on weekends for a fun and entertaining game night that often includes charades and various board games. Max’s brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) shows up one weekend to play game night with the group. After an entertaining night, Brooks invites Max and Annie to a game night that will be hosted at his house, to which the two agree to do so. However, when the day eventually arrives, and the couple go to Brooks’ house, absolute chaos mixed with comedic mishaps occur throughout the night.

This film is directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the reason before I went to see it, I was extremely nervous.

The two previously directed the 2015 remake of Vacation, which was disastrous. Virtually nothing about that ninety-nine minute,

unfunny film worked. Fortunately, Game Night was far from that. It was wonderfully directed, armed with a surprisingly witty script by Mark Perez.

Bateman brings his all in Game Night, proving himself to be one of the funniest actors working today. Practically every time he was onscreen, laughter was sure to ensue; and his character has a certain likeability that will have you rooting for him all the way through. The best aspect of Game Night, however, is McAdams as Annie. She is not a film character that is completely oblivious to the things occurring around her for most of the entire motion picture.

When things quickly take a turn for the worse in the film’s opening thirty minutes, people are unaware to things unfolding in front of their eyes, but that quickly changes.

McAdams is also a scene-stealer, as her dialogue had me laughing consistently throughout this mystery comedy. Additionally, her character is not reliant on a man to save her in every scene, and this is something extremely praiseworthy.

Some of the most hilarious and entertaining scenes in the film occur with her fighting some of the film’s antagonists.

Tone is a big issue with Tone is a big issue with Game Night unfortunately. We can literally watch a scene in which an individual has just gotten kidnapped and some even killed, and then the next scene we see two characters discussing if they want to have a baby or not.

Going from one very brutal and dark scene to instant comedy can be a bit jarring from time to time.

Viewers will more than likely get used to it after a while much like I did, but it took a little bit of time.

Game Night also suffers occasionally from a rushed script.

Many scenes feel like scenes set up

for the next big scene which will be bolder and funnier, but it would have been nice to ease off the brakes for a bit to let the script breathe. It would not have been a bother to me if the film was a tad longer, as the characters are indeed likeable and it is loaded with comedy throughout to keep audiences laughing and entertained. A longer running time would have not gotten on most viewers’ nerves due to these factors.

The film also looks marvelous; thanks to the great cinematography

If you have a big group of friends, then you might want to go all together to see Game Night.

At its core, the film itself is about friendship, family, and teamwork, so it would be great to see it with friends.

Extraordinarily clever and funny, Game Night stands out significantly amongst the crowd of rather dull comedy films released in recent years. To reiterate, the great performances of Bateman and Adams make the film an amazingly engaging watch.

Way Out

O

ur grand daughter, while in London last year, decided to take the underground train to her destination. So she paid her fare and descended into the depths of London to catch her train. But getting out of the station can be a scary experience for her who is unfamiliar with the system. If you don't find the exit, you can quickly get lost in the tunnels.

Being alone in a sparsely populated underground tunnel is an unsettling feeling, so I believed her when she said she doesn't want to get lost. Needless to say, she was so glad when she spotted the sign that says, "WAY OUT" and followed it to safety.

Paul reminds us that when we are vulnerable to falling into sin. "GOD is faithful; HE will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, HE will also provide

LORD, keep us mindful that YOUR Presence with us in times of temptation means that we need not fall. Give us the desire to seek YOUR "Way Out" so we can know the joy of living a life that is pleasing to YOU. GOD is actively working to keep us from the danger of getting lost in sin.

•15 years old, 1st Degree Black Belt, Instructor of the Winnipeg Sikaran Arnis Academy •Grade 10 at the Maples Collegiate On Saturday, February 17, 2018, a tournament hosted by TK Taekwondo was held at Beausejour, Manitoba.

Many martial artists from Winnipeg all the way to Kenora, Ontario and Saskatchewan came and competed in this tournament. My experience on this tournament was thrilling. Despite having a few but tough competitions, I won gold in all 4 of my events; hand forms, weapon forms, arnis sparring and point sparring. I was also one of the judges and referees for the intermediate belts competitions. I saw good fighters and everyone fought hard, I could sense that everyone really prepared and trained hard for this tournament. It was a successful event.

Congratulations to all the martial artists, mostly the youth who came out that Saturday. Congratulations to your parents! I am sure they are very proud of all of us. Big thanks to all the martial arts instructors who prepared and trained us to become better with our martial arts skills and talents.

There were 19 of us from the Winnipeg Sikaran Arnis Academy. We brought home 17 gold medals, 15 silver medals, 12 bronze medals, 2nd place for the Team Demo, and one of our hard working members, Micah Jei Ragudo won the Grand Champion Title for the Beginners Division. Preparing for any tournament is not easy but it is fun. We train four times a week, 2 hours a day. We use active games to build up our stamina, we try to master our hand and weapon forms again and again, our instructors make sure that we are capable of defending our belt levels, we are always reminded of the WSAA’s four pillars of teachings; Honor, Excellence, Respect and Discipline. And at the end of many weeks of preparations, the parents would do a potluck to boost us up. #ItsMoreFun #WinnipegSikaran. We are the future of martial arts in Manitoba!

House attempts to regulate school field trips

T

o ensure the safety of students during offcampus activities, the House of Representatives is now finalizing a proposal that will regulate school field trips.

In a joint hearing, the committees on basic education and culture as well as higher and technical education this week approved the creation of a technical working group (TWG) that will fine-tune House Bill 5121 which seeks to regulate educational field trips.

The proposed “Educational Field Trips Act” seeks to regulate the conduct of off-campus activities, such as field trips, by all public and private schools and educational institutions directly or indirectly operating within the country.

The bill expressly states the policy of the State to instill health and safety consciousness

among the people and to maintain honesty and integrity in the country’s educational institutions.

It provides that no field trip shall be undertaken without the written consent of the parents or guardians of students.

There shall be no punitive measures or activities such as examination related to the educational field trip that will put the students who could not join the trip at a disadvantage.

Moreover, students shall be given activities in school to compensate for their inability to join a field trip. They also shall not be given a failing or incomplete grade for failure to join a field trip.

Erring school officials, teachers or responsible school personnel shall be penalized with imprisonment of one to two years and a fine of P100,000 to P500, 000.

The bill's author, Rep. Scott Davies Lanete (3rd District, Masbate), said the Department of Education’s current policy on educational tour, as detailed in Department Order No. 52, series of 2003, has been "a toothless tiger when it comes to the safety of students."

Lanete said it is high time for the country to adopt stricter measures in ensuring that schools will comply with the Department Order by penalizing noncompliance. As long as there is no law penalizing non-compliance, students will continue to be exposed to accidents risks, said Lanete.

PH bet is first-ever Miss Multinational crown

T

he first winner of the Miss Multinational pageant is a Filipina.

Sophia Senoron was crowned as the first winner of the Miss Multinational pageant Monday night in New Delhi, India. The good news was shared by Arnold Vegafria, national director for Miss World and Miss Multinational Philippines. Sophia is a student of San Beda University and is currently taking up Financial Management.

Several Filipina beauty queens took to social media to send their congratulatory messages. Among them are the country’s first Reina Hispanoamericana titleholder Teresita “Winwyn” Marquez, Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann, Miss Universe 2013 third runner-up Ariella Arida, Miss Grand International 2013 third runner-up Ali Forbes, and Binibining Pilipinas-World 2007 Maggie Wilson.

Kris Aquino reaches out to Paolo Duterte’s rant Kris Aquino peacefully reaches out to Paolo Duterte in reply to the latter’s tirade against the EDSA People Power Revolution and to the actress herself.

The presidential son posted on his Facebook account last Feb. 20 that the commemoration of EDSA is a reminder of a broken promise of the past two Aquino administrations and the corruption that prevailed. Paolo also took a dig at Kris personally by telling her to avoid being

dramatic, go play PS4 instead and added an #eatshitanddie hashtag in the end. For her part, Kris kept her cool and reached out directly to Paolo through her social media accounts. She suggested that they meet and talk things through by having coffee or San Miguel beer.

he Winnipeg Jets are allin for their playoff run in a blockbuster trade with the addition of centreman Paul Stastny from the St. Louis Blues, and Joe Morrow from the Montreal Canadiens.

ouncing on a rare break in the deep freeze conditions this winter, FAAM members Alan Ali, Eric Labaupa, and myself decided to hit the frozen Red River for a quick hitter to try our luck at hooking into a giant greenback walleye. Late February is no longer primetime on the Red as a good portion of the migrating schools from the fall have begun to head back out to the lake. While we weren’t counting on fast and furious action like it often can be on early ice, there is always a hitter’s chance to stick a pig when dropping a line in the world famous Red River.

Starting out first thing in the morning, our Plan A was to target one of the deeper holes in the river where we’ve had success for big girls in the past. Readers may be familiar with this spot adjacent to the big Highway 4 bridge or as it’s affectionately known, ‘the bridge to no where’. Surprisingly, when we pulled up to the access point there was open water and thin ice signs nearby. With none of us interested in poking holes in a sketchy area, it was on to Plan B. We backtracked just slightly upriver and decided to try a popular area in front of the church.

Our main method of attack when ice fishing on the Red is to cover a variety of depths to start. We drilled holes starting in the middle going in a straight line back to the west shore. The main channel here was 30 feet under the ice. Each hole gradually got shallower with a noticeable sharp break at 19’ to 14’. The farthest holes closer to shore were hovering over 8’ of water. We then systematically

n acquaintance that he developed a sense of ownership for all the songs that he fell in love with during his youth, to the point that when such songs started to become commercialized or overly popular, enough for them to be embraced by also the common guy next door, he lost affection for them. He felt that these songs were no longer his. He felt dismayed.

He now disowned them because he felt that these songs no longer “speak” to him personally.

I don't share those sentiments.

To develop a sense of ownership for music is a dangerous thing. It makes a person selfish, snobbish, and elitist, thinking and feeling that no one else but he alone has the right to appreciate and delight in the beauty of music, whatever kind this may be. To believe that only he and no one else could

appreciate something is a height of selfishness and greediness.

For me, music—whatever kind or genre this may be—Metal, Jazz, New Wave, Classical, Hiphop, Country, Punk, Progressive Rock, Pop, you name it—is for everyone.

Yes, music is for anyone who likes to listen to it for whatever reason.

Don't fall in the folly of thinking that something special is only for someone special like you. Because you are not the only special person in the world. In fact, everyone is special in many ways.

Don’t be selfish. Don’t be greedy.

Final Note As we grow older, we should also become more inclusive and welcoming of others; sharing all the good things with anyone who is happy to delight in them.

Festival du Voyageur wraps up 29th year & Bothwell inaugural international cheese carving competition Festival du Voyageur wrapped up it's 49th edition with great weather and enough "hého"s to tide Winnipeg over until next year.

Overall attendance this year was steady at 93,400 people over the 10 days of Festival du Voyageur. Tickets were sold-out on both Saturdays. Attendance at official sites was up this year, largely due to the addition of new official sites and the fact the Rendez-Vous on Ice remained open for all 4 days of expected programming.

Attendance at Voyageur Park was down 10 per cent from last year, which is due to cold weather on the first weekend and changes in ticketing – limiting the amount of people in Voyageur Park to manage capacity.

Kids dominated the 49th edition of Festival du Voyageur with double the children's programming and a new play structure to cater to all the children 12-years-old and under who received free admission.

The Bothwell Cheese Carving Competition on February 18, drew in huge crowds to watch six world-renowned sculptors carve masterpieces out of 40-pound blocks of Bothwell cheese. HGTV's Carver Kings' Paul Frenette won with his cheesy rendition of the Green Man. Miss Sandy Bay, a 15-time Festival du Voyageur Jigging Competition Champion headlined Festival duVoyageur's first ever Voyageur Pride night on Saturday, February 24. The evening welcomed everyone to celebrate the diverse community at Festival du Voyageur in partnership with Room Service, Queer People of Colour – Winnipeg (QPOC) and Sunshine House.

The 50th edition of Festival du Voyageur will be February 1524, 2019.

Teachers aren’t gunslingers If President Donald Trump had his way, teachers would be required to carry guns in school.

Yes, just like the Wild West where just about everybody carried a gun.

No license required. No “Second Amendment” to make it lawful to carry a gun. But in the Wild West, there was one exception: Teachers didn’t carry guns. There were enough gunslingers to scare psychos away from schools.

But those were the good old days when good guys – like Wyatt Earp and his brothers -- killed the bad guys. Today, there are no more good guys to go after the bad guys because the bad guys don’t carry six-shooters anymore; they carry “assault rifles” that can fire six hundred rounds a minute.

That would certainly scare the hell out of any good guy who’s armed with just a handgun.

And that’s probably what Trump had in mind when he suggested that teachers carry guns to kill psychos armed with “weapons of war” like the AR-15 that was used to kill 17 people at

the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last February 14. Trump had tweeted that there were “many signs the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed.”

The killer, identified as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, used a semi-automatic assault rifle in his murderous spree, which also wounded 14 other people including five with lifethreatening injuries.

It was reported in the news that the FBI was alerted six months ago after a YouTube user named "Nikolas Cruz" posted a comment stating "I'm going to be a professional school shooter" on the video site, which makes one wonder: What did the FBI do to stop Cruz from pursuing his evil plans? Could the FBI have the same nonchalant attitude in dealing with other potential terrorists?

But the FBI can’t be blamed for their perceived inaction. They don’t have enough manpower to deal with the problem. The

ast week, there was an almost muted celebration of the so-called EDSA revolution. Let’s look back not on the gathering of the people on that kilometer stretch of the highway but what happened when Benigno ‘Ninoy ‘ Aquino’s widow assumed the presidency.

There was a major overhaul on the local government level, removing local officials. Many governors and mayors identified with the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), the ruling party during the rule of

President Ferdinand Marcos were booted out and replaced by antiMarcos activists as rewards for their efforts.

That happened at the height of people’s euphoria after Marcos was forced into exile by the Americans to Hawaii. In the meantime a constitutional commission was created to dismantle the 1973 constitution and to install a Cory oriented one. The Aquino appointed OICs, ‘blessed’ by Cory magic prepared for the 1988 polls.

“Have gun, will teach” So whose problem is it then? Trump and National Rifle Association (NRA) Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre are of the same mind about guns in schools: they both want more guns in schools. Trump wants to arm teachers to protect themselves and the school children. LaPierre agrees with Trump in the sense that arming the teachers would be consistent with his convoluted philosophy, which he reiterated during the recently concluded Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC): “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

The only problem with this is that oftentimes the good guys gets killed, simply because they’re under-armed and don’t have proper training in handling guns. Simply put, teachers teach children, not shoot people. But Trump and LaPierre believe otherwise. They’re convinced that teachers can be made into good shooters; that is, killing people. But that’s not what they were taught to earn their teaching credentials. They were taught to teach children, not to kill people.

It is interesting to note that when the shooting started at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, there was an armed deputy on duty at the school -- someone tasked, specifically, with keeping the students inside safe. Needless to say, the deputy was armed with a handgun, which was typically what most deputies would carry. So, when the mass murderer started shooting with his AR-15 in a rapid-fire fashion, the deputy on duty must have gotten so scared and he froze. For the next four minutes he stayed out of the school while the shooter murdered 17 people inside.

The problem in America today is that there is a proliferation of assault rifles. And Congress isn’t doing anything to rid the streets of these dangerous weapons of war. Their use should be limited for law enforcement purposes. And there must be laws that restrict their sale to civilians and minors. Stringent background checks must be enforced and people with mental health problems must be banned from purchasing them.

But nothing is being done about it. Lawmakers refuse to enact gun control laws for fear of losing the endorsement of the NRA and their campaign contributions. To be blacklisted by the NRA would spell the end of their legislative careers. In

other words, the NRA and their lackeys in Congress control the deadly game that has been putting the lives of school children in danger.

Never Again!

But the gruesome massacre of 17 people during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School changed all that. The survivors of the Parkland school decided to bring their case to the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida.

Finally, the dragon has awakened, ready to challenge the political dominance of the NRA that has for so long been at the apex of power. Indeed, the Never Again Movement could usher in the dawn of a new age in America.

All over the country the Cory magic was at work. Even two of the most well loved and respected mayors, Benigno Espino of Arayat and Armando P. Biliwang of the capital town of San Fernando were replaced.

Many of them never went back to politics, some attempted but thwarted. Few others made it and reclaimed their seats.

Jerusalem, "The City of Peace" (Part III) government, executive, legislative and judicial, are located in the New City including the Parliament and the residences of the president and the prime minister. The unicameral Parliament is The Knesset (means "assembly" in Hebrew) with 120 members elected every four (4) years based on nation-wide proportional representation. Aside from passing laws, the Knesset elects the President (currently Reuven Rivlin) and the Prime Minister (incumbent Benjamin Netanyahu). Make sure to bring your passport which must be presented to enter the Knesset. It also maintains a dress code - no shorts, jeans, tank tops, or clothing with political slogans. (crocs are only allowed if they are in navy, blue or black.)

Not far from the Knesset, the Israel Museum exibits archaeology and modern day art and also the fragments of the celebrated Dead Sea Scrolls regarded as the oldest manuscripts of the Old Testament ever found as discovered in the caves of the Judean desert in 1947.

utside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem is the so-called the "New City" of Jerusalem. With more than 800,000 people it is home to historically important religious sites, vistas and tourist attractions - so many of them that it becomes impossible to visit and see them all.

From our experience we suggest visiting the downtown district, the Knesset, Israel Museum, The Holocaust Memorial (Yad Vashem), Haas Promenade, Mea Shearim, and the Mount of Olives.

Although crossing between areas of the city takes time because of strict security measures from the time we leave the hotel our guided tour begins by exploring the very heart of the city's compact

downtown located around the three thoroughfares - King George Street, Jaffa Road and Ben-Yehuda Street where we find a bustling stone-paved pedestrian mall, also known as the "midrechov" in Hebrew (literally, pedestrian street) crowded with people, street performers, artists displaying their wares and lined with restaurants, cafes, shops, and apartment buildings. No matter what you're craving for make a quick stop at Cafe Rimon, a Kosher restaurant chain in Israel, open 24 hours or at Gagou de Paris for delicious French croissants.
