Not All Good Fruits Get Contaminated by Rotten Ones (On the Strength of Character)

A

s one metaphor claims, “Put one good fruit beside several rotten ones and the infection will eat away at the good fruit.” Yes, that is true for literal fruits. That's how helpless fruits can be when contaminated or infected by molds or bacteria. However, when it comes to humans, that metaphor does not apply all the time. While many humans can easily get affected by bad influences, turning them into bad ones over time; there are individuals who have a strong

sense of disposition that no matter how hard bad people try to lure them and influence them, they remain firm with their sense of self and principles. Metaphors are often just metaphors. They don't apply to real-life situations all the time.

Philippine Midterm election validates the relevancy of President Duterte's presidency

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is the real winner, after the mid-term election as a "de facto" referendum for his presidency, making himself more popular by outshining most of his opposition. Most of the successful senatorial candidates under his helm are in top eleven slot, outlasting the so-called Liberal Party’s “Otso Diretso was fully annihilated by the popularity of Duterte. Being the most contentious election, many political parties, with sixty-two senatorial hopefuls, have to wage war against black propaganda to win the war of words and money, aimed at Duterte's favoured senatorial candidates. Fear of the Duterte's control of the senate, as claimed by his opposition and the critics, to pursue his many plans to eradicate drugs, tone down corruption, alleviate the decades of financial inequity and poverty; and for the most of what Duterte's plan to change the form of the government from a unitary system to a federal system. "Nothing will change if Federalism is not introduced," Duterte said in one of his briefings with the media."We will not move forward, we will be doomed." For Duterte, to effect the change, and to cure the

dysfunctional governance, Federalism is the answer as he prided himself that the Federalism planned for the Philippines is inspired by the Canadian federalism, for growth. But many critics, including the major media, have mobilized their arsenals to stop the introduction of Federalism, which, can only be obtained is to change the 1986 constitution which mandated a backward approach for the future. "The 1986 Constitution is the single stumbling block and this must be changed to enhance and sustain the economic growth. Added to his opponents' arsenal, he is accused of selling the Philippines to China, as other vocal media exponential claims, that the Philippine will become

one of the provinces of China. As the positive result of the mid-term election, President Duterte has another three years to make some drastic changes and the only way to more effective and efficient in governing the country is the probably imposition of the revolutionalry government. effectivley Duterte has now the majority in the senate to mobilize the many changes in the government thru a charter change, more wars on drugs and corruption and to top them all, the give every Filipino a decent way of living. And would this three remaining years of his presidency, opposition and critics claimed that after the Federalism is adopted, his term will be extended because of the change of the Constitution, making the current president as the prime minister. Thus,Duterte will be empower after his 6 terms. "Ayaw ko, pagod na ako! (I do not like anymore, i'm tired already.), Duterte said. The top 12 winning senatorial candidates based on the partial returns include Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Bong Go, Pia Cayetano, Bato dela Rosa, Sonny Angara, Lito Lapid, Imee Marcos,

Francis Tolentino, Bong Revilla, Koko Pimental and Nancy Binay. Duterte's power to change the country for a better one begins finally after eliminating those who

government as Honorary Consul and later on, as Honorary Consul General, to serve the growing Filipino community. And this made them much busier to attend to the needs of the growing Filipino community at the time when the Provincial Nominee Program had contributed the rapid increase of the Filipinos arriving and living in Manitoba. Both are now retired from their professions, both are still active in fund-raising and other community events. Another award honouree is Sadao Ono who brought the tradition of sushi preparation in Winnipeg when he opened his restaurant EDOHEI in 1988 at the downtown area, considered as the 1st sushi bar in Winnipeg Ono arrived in Canada in 1972, and worked and opened a sushi bar in Winnipeg. And thru the help of his wife Sachiko, Makoto, his son; and Mari, her daughter, worked hard at EDOHEI, creating an authentic Japanese cuisine. The Ono family took great pride in presenting the Japanese cuisine to the Winnipeg Community. They used only the freshest ingredients from select international seafood markets such as Vancouver, Halifax, New Zealand, Australia and Hawai. EDOHEI proved to be a very popular sushi bar with Winnipeg and his clients from the neighboring city and towns. Ono-san mentored many assistants who learned literally at his hand. Leading these trained assistants to open their own sushi and fusion restaurants over the years in Winnipeg and elsewhere. On February 25, 2012, after almost 25 years, Edohei Sushi and Japanese Restaurant closed its door for good. And the Ono family has

taken its rightful place in creating a legacy for the Japanese dining in Winnipeg. Ono-san's culinary legacy continues at the Japanese Cultural Centre, 180 McPhillips St, where he holds Japanese cooking classes, and his active involvement in the kitchen with the Centre's regular Donburi lunches, Ramen days and other major centre's special events. And JCAM's Japan Pavilion at Folklorama, Ono-san's legacy in the sushi and in the Japanese cuisine continues. Piano-Oriented Classical Music by aLfie vera mella elfideas102@yahoo.com

I

may be an aficionado of the contemporary Pop and Rock genres of music; however, Classical is another genre that I love listening to. Seldom do I encounter

people who are into this kind of music, especially among the younger generation. It’s time that they start discovering the music

whose origins stretched far back to centuries ago. In Classical music, there are also different kinds—depending on the instruments used or on the amount of instruments employed in one composition. Symphonies are the ones often associated with big orchestras. Sonatas are usually the ones that involved only a solo or a few number of instruments, typically the piano.

Speaking of this instrument, here are some of my favorites in pianooriented Classical music. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Sonatas (1774-1799) Frédéric Chopin - Nocturnes (1827-1846) Eric Satie - Gymnopédies (1888) Sergei Rachmaninoff - Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (1934) Philip Glass - Glassworks (1982)

Final Note Many music enthusiasts think that listening to one type of music is cool. To me it’s not. The more diverse and varied one’s music taste is, the better. It makes one more openminded and less critical of things that she does not readily understands. Music eclecticism is the best way to go!

Robredo, the leader of the opposition, credited the efforts made by Otso Diretso’s candidates and volunteers to fight back despite the odds against them. Horoscope This period is about keeping your distance and putting your relationships into perspective to see what they’re really worth to you. If you’re concerned about the love that certain close people have for you, you shouldn’t try to compensate by being clingy or overly affectionate. Someone may ask you for an even stronger commitment.

This isn’t the time to make any more of a commitment to your relationship. You aren’t satisfied with your attitude toward things lately. Don’t forget that your partner’s characteristics may have something to do with it! You have take care of things. Take advantage of this reevaluation period. It doesn’t happen that often.

You might want to think about getting things straight with the people close to you. It’s possible you haven’t dealt with any problems you had in your relationships. It’s time to look at things again. You may have hidden certain things from yourself. You need to be much more honest about what you want in your personal life.

PAHALANG

Do you know about the trap that many people get caught up in - feeling so close to their partners that they often forget themselves? You may be asking certain questions about your feelings. Sometimes it’s easy to confuse your feelings with this kind of selfdenial. You need to think about how this affects your life.

You have a hard time resting your body and recharging your batteries. Nothing can hold back your flame for long. At the moment, you’re probably still going through a deep transformation that won’t allow you to slow down. Take the time to meditate and get in touch with your feelings. What is it you really want out of life?

You can be known for needing a lot of love, but you will never admit that to yourself, much less anyone else. Sometimes it seems as if you like feeling emotionally frustrated. The perfect meditate about whether or not this is true of you. Do you talk to other people about your emotional needs?

You probably aren’t worried about being conventional in your relationships. In fact, conventionality is often what causes you problems. If you’re wondering what morality is and what it’s based on, this is to think about these questions.

Your motto seems to be “everything is relative.” You may not be very accurate. However, paying attention to details doesn’t necessarily mean that you lose sight of the fundamentals. Your friends could tell you that. If you’re an artist, you might make an effort to be clearer in your expression and a little more down to Earth.

If you’re thinking about starting a relationship, moving in together, or getting married, you may feel a bit troubled by your decision. This isn’t a good time to make any big relationship decisions. Take advantage to reevaluate things objectively. There may be some issues to resolve before you go any further.

Everything was going just fine until now. You may feel like something is holding you back. If you believe the stream of chatter in your head, you will be regressing in every area of your life! For example, you may be afraid to go any further in your relationship because of your past failures. Use this time to lay the past to rest.

You’re no longer interested in superficial or frivolous relationships. You may be looking for some new values in your personal life. You need to meet different kinds of people and select friends who are really worth keeping. Don’t worry if you feel like taking a step back to get some perspective, because this is the time to do it. Relationships are too important to neglect.

You could find yourself daydreaming through your good and bad memories. You may want to take a little trip into your past to visit some old friends. This is an excellent period to break with some of the more negative ties to your past. If your partner is a little worried about you going back in time at the moment, reassure him or her.

he month of May is going by quickly and I wanted to use this opportunity to share an upcoming event, with all of you! Who: Our community, everyone is invited!

community has contributed to our Canadian heritage, economy and more. There will be many exhibits to enjoy, learn from and have fun at, as well as ongoing basketball tournaments happening in the Gym. I should also mention we will be having a nice spread of food that can be purchased for $2. Where:Maples Collegiate – 1330 Jefferson. When:Saturday, June 1stfrom 4-9PM. Why: Our Filipino-Canadian Heritage is being recognized at both a Federal level and a provincial level simultaneously.

Celebrating and recognizing our Filipino heritage every June is not new to Winnipeg but it is new for Canada as a nation. For the first time it will be celebrated and recognized from coast to coast to coast because last November the House of Commons in Ottawa passed a motion to recognize June as Philippine Heritage month in Canada. The Filipino community has been a huge part of both my life and my fathers over the years and this special event is our way of saying thank you and exemplifying the pride that

we hold dear to heart of our community, friends and family. If you are free on June 1st, I hope that you consider attending. The event is a come and go as you please atmosphere, so feel free to bring the children out you can take off before their bed times if need be. The event itself is completely free of charge, however, for a plate of food it will cost $2. In wrapping up I just wanted to give a big shout out to all of our dedicated volunteers and all of their continued efforts and hard work. June 1stwill be a blast! And I hope to see you there!
