heck out these pictures of recent giant greenback catches by fellow Filipino anglers. The bite this fall has been great at Pine Falls and on the Red River. Sadly, with the arrival of much cooler temperatures it appears that open water season is coming to an end.
Ice season however is just around the corner. If you have never been ice fishing or are looking to learn, we have a wealth of knowledge amongst the membership of the Filipino Anglers Association of Manitoba. One of our goals this season is help those interested in trying out

this fun winter activity. Join our public Facebook group for more information. Our next meeting is on December 14. More details to follow. Our most recent meeting took place on October 18 at Cabela's in Winnipeg. Those in attendance enjoyed free treats and a special discount courtesy of the store. We learned about advanced sturgeon rigging from Arnel Inocando and inflatable PFDs from Mike of Cabela's.

Is a demolition job against Trillanes in the works?
F
or someone who led a mutiny against the government, imprisoned for more than six years, ran for senator while lingering in prison, and won a Senate seat without leaving the confines of his detention cell, Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV is facing the biggest challenge in his life. This time he’s locked in battle against President Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte, the most powerful man in the country. That took a lot of guts. But like they say, “No guts, no glory.” And this time around, Sonny Boy might be thinking that for one more battle to fight, he just might get to taste the sweet flavor of glory. Even for just a moment. After all, this would be like David fighting Goliath. Yes, it would certainly be a moment
of sensational victory… more sensational, less victorious. And this begs the question: How is he going to repeat a battle that was more biblical than historical? But Trillanes must have a high regard of himself. The fact that he was able to organize and lead a mutiny against the Arroyo government bespoke of a man guided by a vision of patriotism and a mission of righteousness. He must have dreamed – nay, calculated! -- that whatever the denouement his mutiny might have been, he would have earned the respect of the people and rewarded with a seat on the Philippine Senate. Sonny Trillanes reached the apex of power and prominence by sheer guts. Vice presidential run
The Pulse of the Filipino Community since 1987
But having a seat in the august chamber of the Senate didn’t seem to satisfy him. He tested the murky waters of politics to see if he could make the big step to the vice presidency. There was no reason that he could have failed. He still had that quixotic fervor. He was “mabango” – untainted with no record or complaint of corruption – and he must have been very confident of himself of facing a packed field of vice-presidential wannabes, among which was the heir to the Marcos loot, then Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Little did Sonny know that amongst his rivals for the vicepresidency were two young ladies, one wearing the “yellow” color of the Liberal Party and the other wearing white polo shirt that seemed to suggest “purity of character.” Trillanes failed miserably in the vice-presidential race due mainly to lack of funds and lack of organization, The other, Sen. Grace Poe Llamanzares, who was an early front-runner but she fell out of the race because she couldn’t unload the “excess baggage” that her rivals accused her of. In the end, the “yellowista” Leni Robredo, the widow of the popular late Jess Robredo, won the vice-presidency. She defeated Bongbong Marcos by some 200,000 votes. The small margin of Leni’s victory gave Bongbong enough reason to file an electoral protest and recount, which is now before the Supreme Court acting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET). Undaunted by his political setback, Trillanes took his anticorruption crusade to the Senate. Last February, Trillanes dropped a bombshell when he claimed that Duterte had secret bank accounts. He challenged Duterte to disprove allegations that he had P2 billion in transactions in three bank branches from 2006 to 2015. He also claimed that Duterte’s commonlaw wife Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña had almost P200 million in bank transactions between 2004 and 2009. Duterte denied the allegations. Trillanes then asked the Office of the Ombudsman to release Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) records showing Duterte’s flagged transactions in various bank accounts. AMLC denied Trillanes’ request.
All photos & articles available online!
Last September, Duterte claimed that Trillanes had “a lot” of bank accounts abroad – in Hong Kong, Australia, and the U.S. Trillanes called it “fake news” and Duterte a liar. Trillanes meets Rubio The Duterte-Trillanes feud has gone international when Duterte accused Trillanes of being a “traitor.” The accusation is based on what U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio said in a tweet: “Senator @TrillanesSonny & I discussed U.S.#Philippines alliance, combating corruption & protecting #humanrights amid their narcotics crisis.” Trillanes confirmed he met with senior US government officials, including Senator Rubio during his recent trip to the U.S. He said his meeting with Rubio focused on “enhancing RP-US relations, corruption, and the human rights situation in the Philippines,” which is pretty much what Rubio said in his tweet. Trillanes also denied a newspaper report that he went to the U.S. to convince officials to stop the state visit of U.S. President Donald Trump, which is scheduled for November. But in a radio interview last October 22, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar was asked to comment on whether Trillanes should be charged with “treason.” Andanar said it would be up to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to study such “legal matters.” It’s interesting to note that last year, Rubio and two other U.S. senators wrote a letter to the U.S. State Department after they visited the Philippines. They expressed “grave concern about the campaign of extrajudicial killings and human rights violations under the Duterte administration.” In response to Andanar’s comments, Trillanes – Duterte’s toughest critic -- said he “pushed for the interests of our country, which are not necessarily the same as the interests of Duterte.” Act of treason While the verbal exchange between Trillanes and Andanar had remained civil, Duterte’s hordes of social media netizens and trolls attacked Trillanes accusing him of treason, which begs the question: Where is all this leading? It is a known fact that Duterte hates Trillanes for a variety of
FilipinoJournal.com
reasons. Foremost of which are the “war on drugs,” extrajudicial killings, alleged corruption by members of Duterte’s family, and corruption by administration officials. He even went as far as to accuse Duterte’s son, Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, of being a member of a Chinese triad that smuggles the illegal drug “shabu” into the country. Although Duterte’s “war on drugs” has so far eliminated more than 10,000 drug users, these are mainly poor people. Powerful politicians are believed to be protecting operators of “shabu” manufacturing laboratories. Last October 11, Trillanes described the draft report on the P6.4 billion “shabu” shipment from China being routed by Senate blue ribbon committee chairman Sen. Richard Gordon as a “mere coverup.” He said that those behind the entry of the “shabu” shipment are not being held answerable to the law. "Suspected drug pushers and users are wantonly killed in the streets while the people behind the illegal drug smuggling are merely subjected to a lifestyle check. This is a clear case of cover-up by Senator Richard Gordon to please his political master," Trillanes said. [Source: SunStar Manila, 1011-17] Last October 19, Trillanes filed an ethics complaint against Gordon for committing “slander” and “unparliamentary acts.” Trillanes said Gordon called him a “peddler of gossip” in a Senate blue ribbon hearing on the P6.4billion worth of smuggled “shabu” on August 31. But it was Gordon who first filed an ethics complaint against Trillanes who had threatened to file plunder charges against Gordon over alleged corruption in the Red Cross. And now, the DOJ is going to look into Trillanes’ alleged treasonous act because of his meeting with Rubio in the U.S. If the DOJ determines that there is a probable cause to file charges of treason against Trillanes, then the DOJ could initiate a detention order against Trillanes. And once again Trillanes could find himself behind bars for the second time in his life… and probably for life, too. Which makes one wonder: Is a “demolition job” against Trillanes in the works?

Always Be Prepared for a Literary Counterattack (On Being Openminded and Emotionally Strong in This Cyberworld)
M
Once you expressed something in public—whether on a social-media platform such as Facebook or in a real-
life conversation--whether it's your wall or turf or not—but because such postings get into the newsfeed of people on your FB friends list or you inadvertently include others in the conversation, then your sentiments or whatever expressions become open to comments, criticisms, disagreements or agreements, or accolades. Meaning, anyone is now free to express her agreement, disagreement, or countercomment, even if only for the purpose of discourse and sharing different perspectives. After all, let's admit it—every time we express something, we expect a reaction. But we have to remember that the reality though is, not all reactions will be favorable or parallel to our sentiments. There

will be disagreements and even counterattacks! We should be prepared for all that. It's for our personal refinement in the end. Anyway, don't you want an open and free discussion? That's how ideas develop. Every eureka moment is a hit or miss, trial and error, verify and validate, confess and confirm, or a collaborative process involving various minds. If you are easily offended or too sensitive to take a disagreement against whatever you have said, then I could imagine you were one of those who never or rarely participated in class discussions during Philosophy or Logic class in university or even in Theology class in high school. At the end of a discourse, knowledge is power and composure is a shield.

Pyramid Plumbing & Heating: Ready to heat up winter!

Dustin Ready and Mike Buenaventura teaming up for Pyramid Plumbing and Heating providing plenty of options for your home this winter.

n the last 18 months Pyramid Plumbing and Heating has gone through some immense changes attributed to growth. Mike Buenaventura came aboard almost 24 months ago and has brought with him some fresh ideas, and new customer service concepts. Now the team has grown. Adding 4 full time experienced technicians, a service foreman and an experienced sales advisor; all to better serve homeowners. “I think we have made some great strides in letting people know that we’ve been here for over 39 years servicing Winnipeg….” and in doing so they’ve added to the team. Dustin Ready, their most recent addition comes with over 12 years of HVAC sales experience. The cliche, He’s seen it all, could certainly applies here. When we ask Mike (Residential Manager) why he is so excited to add Dustin? “It was an easy decision for us to bring him on board” claims Mike. “when we met with him, he was very confident in being an “option provider” rather than a “product pusher” Providing plenty of options is
what we like to rest our laurels on, as seen on many tag lines and the the company’s various social media videos. Installing new equipment is only a portion of what Pyramid offers. Servicing is almost as big if not at certain times a larger component. Adding Gord Caron to the team was “Huge” “A couple of years ago 1 install crew and a couple of service guys were a manageable team. Now almost tripling that team required a leader. That’s where Gord’s experience was almost “plug and play” using Mike’s words. Bringing with him over 15 years of HVAC service management experience, Gord is able to assist in Pyramid’s growth whilst maintaining it’s commitment to service excellence. If you look at Pyramid’s reviews online; they certainly appear to being exceeding their customer’s expectations and more. The team at Pyramid is able to fully help you with the following services:
FilipinoJournal.com
Furnace / AC Sales Furnace / AC Annual Maintenance Furnace / AC 24 hr Service General Plumbing Advanced Plumbing Filter Sales Duct Cleaning HRV Sales and Service New Homes and Retrofit The Pyramid team always encourages open lines of communication with the homeowners. “I always want to be available. It’s what the client deserves” Mike adds. Home comfort systems are large investments, and servicing them is very vital to the health of the system and more importantly the safety of the family. There are always a lot of questions that arise and he wants to ensure that they are always answered. Feel free to drop in at 1600 Church Ave, or call the office 204-6945088 to meet Mike, Dustin, Gord and the team at Pyramid Plumbing and Heating

Puerto Princesa Underground River (Part I) by Gem and Lita Anis
C
onsidered as the world's longest navigable subterranean river until 2007 discovery of an underground river in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula that wanders for 153 kms. (95 mi.) through a maze of underground limestone caverns, the Puerto Princesa Underground River (also called St. Paul Underground River) is declared as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature in January, 2012. The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park with a large limestone karst mountain landscape located about 50 kms. north of Puerto Princesa where the underground river is found has been inscribed by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a World Heritage Site since 04 December 1999.
Gem & Lita at the river dock.
The Province of Palawan, an island with 849,469 inhabitants, is one of the 81 provinces of the Philippines (Davao Occidental with Malita as capital is the newest province as of 30 October, 2013). Considered the "Island of the Gods", the province of Palawan, the fifth largest in the country, is composed of 1,780 islands and islets having a long irregular coastline of 2,000 kms. Palawan with its sugar-white sandy beaches, spectacular sea and landscape, amazing wildlife, and 5-star hotels and resorts, has become a world-class destination for travellers from all around the globe especially for those who appreciate the majesty and beauty of nature. From downtown capital Puerto Princesa it took us an hourand-a-half through quite scenic
winding roads, villages and farm lands along the way to reach our three-day accommodation Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa that arranged our travel tour including permits with the Tourist Information Centre to allow entry to the underground river, strategically located in the heart of Sabang Beach. Sabang is a small village used as entry point to the Puerto Princesa Underground River. From Sabang wharf port, wearing our tangerine-coloured vests we took a 15-minute motor boat ride to the shores near the subterranean river with a big sign board that bears the underground river's name. After docking at the beach we followed a 5-minute jungle trail to reach the docking area of the underground river. Be careful as you walk the trail - wandering monkeys sometimes snatch plastic bags or food from tourists. Once you reach the dock area you have to register and queue up to wait
for your turn. Before boarding the paddle boat with outriggers to keep the boat balanced at all times every one of us was provided with a headset phone and a helmet (hard hat) as bats hanging their heads over from the cave roofs have a tendency to poop. The helmet will also protect you from loose stalactites falling from above the ceiling limestone caves. Stalactite is a type of cave formation like icicle deposit of a mineral (calcium carbonate) that hangs from the ceiling limestone caves.) Each boat has a capacity of eight (8) passengers plus the boat guide who gives information and running commentary while viewing the formations (that's why you need a headset) inside the pitch-dark recesses of the caves. Each boat is also provided with a searchlight which is usually given to the passenger sitting at the front
of the boat. The boatmen guiding the tours are registered at the tourism office and speak English well. Only ten (10) boats alternate in ferrying people in and out of the cave. Entering the cave, you'll smell the strong scent that comes from the guano of the urine of bats that abundantly live inside the cave. Inside it's common to hear the bats chattering. Swallows and swiftlets also fly around the cave. The inside tour takes about 45 minutes to an hour - the subterranean river is 8.2 kms. long but only 4.3 kms. of this are easily travelled by tourists. If tourists wish to travel the other 3.9 kms. they have to obtain a special permit. You'll be mesmerized by the natural beauty and splendour found through the path from this amazing underground river.

Ponz by Leila Castro Leilacastro.ca@gmail.com
L
ast June, I attended the Psychological First Aid training session at Norwest. During the self introduction, someone mentioned about volunteering for 204 Neighbourhood Watch. It was Ponz Mapuyan. We did not know each other but I was happy that he knew about the initiative. I just started the 204 Neighbourhood Watch at that time. It was like a tiny flame on a match stick, there was uncertainty if it would set a big fire, or it would just easily be extinguished by challenges. Ponz reconnected with us after two months. It won’t be proper to say that our group found him, because it is the other way around, 204 Neighbourhood Watch is very fortunate that Ponz found our group and decided to devote time as volunteer in our weekly patrolling. Ponz directed us to opportunities of collaborating with community resources. His ideas and inputs helped shape 204 Neighbourhood Watch. Ponz discovered his passion for social services and community volunteering early in life. His father was a military man. Both his parents were community leaders inside the Basa Airbase camp in Pampanga. Having the same leadership quality, he took care of his siblings and supported one of the barangays in the camp as the Kabataang Barangay Chairman. Ponz completed post secondary education at the Philippine Air Force. He was always a scholar and took advantage of every opportunity to learn. He went to College of Law at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Prior to migrating to Canada, Ponz was a corporate executive, and a teacher of English and Philosophy in a university. He often gets invited as a motivational speaker. Ponz arrived in Canada in 2013 with his wife Cristina, and four children Maegan (19), Kean (17), Frankie (13) and Leilan (10). I told Ponz that I’d like to interview him, as it will be nice for the community to know what fuels his passion for helping the community. How did you start your career in social services here in Winnipeg? “I was originally a volunteer at Rene Deleurme Centre, the St. Vital and St. Boniface Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Program – Support for New Comers under the Louis Riel School Division. I
November 5-20, 2017
have contributed a lot to them. Because of my knowledge of the English language being a graduate of Bachelor of Arts with major in English, I have helped them with my English conversation class. I have also helped them with my cooking and nutrition class. Because of my involvement with my socio civic organization back in the Philippines, I was also able to assist them in starting a program for the First aid and CPR. At the same time, I was also responsible for starting their women driver’s program over at the south. At present, I work as Skills Development Worker with Norwest, a non-profit organization for health and social services. I am based at Blake Gardens Community Resource Center. “ You work as a Skills Development Worker, and after work you continue helping the community through volunteering. What motivates you to devote a lot of your time to helping people? “When we were new immigrants, things were a bit easier for us. Adjusting and integrating ourselves was actually not difficult because we’ve got everything. We were lucky because we were connected with the proper resources (the St. Vital and St. Boniface Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Program – Support for New Comers), where I was also volunteering my knowhow. Any question that I asked, we were given access to it for free. The social services and community volunteering that I do right now, why am I doing these? Because we’ve been fortunate. I am actually returning everything now, paying it forward.” As Skills Development Worker in north of Winnipeg, you are immersed in a community where there are many Canadians including immigrants and refugees that are experiencing life challenges, such as homelessness, joblessness and substance abuse. Prior to coming here, was this your expectation of what Canada is like? “Personally, I did not expect Canada to be the place where there is homelessness, joblessness and drugs problems. When we came here we were thinking, it is not for me and my wife; it is for our kids. We have gone past the stage wherein we still want to get somewhere. My wife and I would always say ‘been there done that’. So, when we got here, we were not really expecting anything for ourselves. We came here for our kids. We have observed that in terms of the baby boomers or those raising kids, Winnipeg
The Pulse of the Filipino Community since 1987
has a good reputation with kids. Relatively quiet compared to other highly organized cities. We spent quite sometime over at Vancouver as tourist before we proceeded here. We just stayed in a hotel. That is why I know about the problem on drugs at downtown east side of Vancouver. Here we find syringes on the playground. There, they are on the streets. So, what did I see when we got here. It is no different. My wife and I have also travelled a lot as she used to be a flight attendant. We’ve seen the bad side of most of the countries we’ve visited. It is no different. Canada compared to the Philippines, we have resources here. Here in Canada we talk of legalizing certain drugs like marijuana, because they know that they (the government) are capable of regulating it. In the Philippines, we do not even talk of regulation, more so there is no control. Here it is much better. There are organizations which people could actually join in order to address various concerns. In the Philippines, if I start talking over the radio, the TV or the newspaper, I will have death threats for breakfast. Here, I have been a member and have been fighting for the rights and concerns of the new comer refugees, and here the government listens. In the Philippines they don’t. they threaten you when you speak for or on behalf of a certain marginalized underprivileged people. Here the government provides funds. People support it, you can even do fund raisings here. Just state what your purpose is and the people would help you. Back in the Philippines it is zero.“ Why do you think Canadians are experiencing the mentioned problems?
“Laxity of most Canadians in disciplining their children, so the latter can experiment on the things that they are not aware of or not familiar with such as drugs and alcohol. We have lots of cases here of drug dependency as well as alcohol dependency. While they are still young, children should be well grounded. We talk of discipline, we talk of what ails us, or Winnipeg or Canada as a whole. But it is how people were brought up.” What do you think we can do as a community to help alleviate these problems? ”As a community, we should have the initiative to start something and keep it going. Let’s be part of a group that is doing something relevant. The time to do it is now, we don’t have to wait to die. I believe in M.A.D. which is Make a Difference. You know me, I am fond of acronyms. As we all observe, monthly there are initiatives in the Filipino community like gatherings and events. Look at the influence of the 204 Filipino Marketplace social media group. These are venues to initiate shift of paradigm. It is about time to take care of our community because it is our home now. As my Dad said, ‘We only have one life, make a difference’; while my Mom often asked, ’Why are you doing that?’ as a way of sanity check.” Ponz said he once asked himself, “If I am taking care of others, who will take care of me?” He came to the realization that it is what his wife Christina is doing. Actually, the entire family is taking care of him. He sleeps better because his needs are being met. Despite feeling complete he still volunteers because it is his way of paying forward. As Ponz mentioned, “As a volunteer, it is a good feeling when you do
something good for the community without expecting to get paid.” Ponz’s oldest daughter Maegan said that when you do something and inspire other people; those who think the same replicate what you do. Maegan has also been doing volunteer works. She was the champion of the Huntington disease initiative in high school. She is also a volunteer at the Canadian Cancer Society. A tiny flame we are, but I believe it has started to spark fire inside many people. For us 204 Neighbourhood Watch volunteers who stepped up to make a difference in the community, we are happy that we made the choice to volunteer. We maybe are small for now, but as Ponz said, our endeavor is like this line in a song - “It is better to light just one little candle, than to stumble in the dark.”
Ponz and Cristina Mapuyan.
As a volunteer, it is a good feeling when you do something good for the community without expecting to get paid. - Ponz.
204 Neigbourhood Watch Update : Patrolling Elwick and Alexander-Brooklands by Leila Castro | Leilacastro.ca@gmail.com
O
n October 18, the weather forecast warned of strong wind reaching up to more 100 km per hour. By evening, wind gust settled to less than 50 km per hour so we proceeded with our patrolling. We go out to spread awareness and patrol the neighbourhood for safety, but we ensure first that patrollers are safe before anything else. We gathered together at Maples Community Centre before heading to Elwick neighbourhood. Two new volunteers joined us. Jenny just recently arrived in Winnipeg. She was a banker in the Philippines. We were no match to Tita Adele who at age 72 walked swiftly and was tireless even after 2 hours of non-stop patrolling. Marilyn Magtoto, a Mortgage Specialist of RBC, brought us treats and hot coffee to drink before braving the cold and windy night.
We patrolled AlexanderBrooklands for the second time on October 25. First time patrollers Danae and Omar joined our walk. Danae is the community worker at Norwest at Alexander. She organized a safety forum with the community two months ago, where James Favel and myself were the guest speakers. Omar joined our patrolling group to meet more friends and to volunteer in the community. From Alexander Ave, we walked towards the busy Keewatin St then to William Ave and back to Alexander Ave. Patroller Fran collected from the ground a bucket full of hazardous items such as sharp sticks, metals and broken liquor glasses. We found a syringe on a busy roadside. We enjoyed the freshly prepared siopao, kababayan and pandesal donated by Bakerite and the arroz

caldo cooked by Rene Castro. Some patrollers say that other than the happiness out of helping the community, the delicious snacks is also something to look forward in our Wednesday patrolling. 204 Neighbourhood Watch patrols every Wednesday and we need more volunteers. You’re in a phase when you’d benefit from relax and recharging. After eleven months of activity, the twelfth should be dedicated to meditating on your progress and your goals for the coming twelve months. It’s also an opportunity to release feelings and situations that drain your energy. If you can do this now, you’ll make the best possible use of your recuperation period. It’s an excellent time for collaboration and teamwork.

This is a chance to clear out any baggage you’ve collect in recent years. We’re talking about a deep clean rather than a superficial dust and vacuum. While you’ve likely been at this on and off over the past couple years, there’s no time like the present to continue. It’s the perfect time to make apology, clear away emotional clutter, and enhance vitality.
There’s a chance that a golden opportunity could come your way that adds to your workload but is too good to miss. The aggressive that’s responsible for all the hard work you’ve done lately is still very much in focus. While you’re quite the canny operator and not easily fooled, be sure from that everything’s in order by checking the details and fine print. You’ll be eager to make allowance even if it means compromising a little.
It may come as no surprise that one association is red hot right now. You’ll also find you learn a lot from others, especially when it comes to monitoring your reactions to key situations. The people around you can teach you much about what’s important to you and where you might need to change your attitude. They have clue at the potential for profitable deals.
Shine!
T
o Shine - is to live so that others would see Jesus in us! To Shine - is a principle to a rewarding life! We are so blessed to learn about SHINE. This word made us
think of getting our life better in our relationship with our family, friends, acquaintances, all the people we meet everyday, but most of all, our relationship with our loving GOD.

SHINE S - SERVE OTHERS - Ignite the Flame of Servanthood! It is a choice made in the heart by serving others. SHINE radiates humility to reach beyond ourselves; compassion to care for others; generosity to help others. (Matthew 20:28; Matthew 23:11; 1 Peter 4:10) H - HONOR GOD - Ignite the Flame of Excellence! Trust Him. Be Faithful. Be thankful in everything. Be steward and manager of someone else. God's blessings must flow in us to others. (Matthew 6:33) I - INSPIRE CONTINUALLY - Inspire the Flame of Excellence! A mind of excellence pursues God's vision and continually
increases competence, inspires courage and ignites passion. (Joshua 1:9) "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord, your God will be with you wherever you go." THE MORE CHRIST'S LOVE GROWS IN US, THE MORE HIS LOVE FLOWS FROM US. Let us love one another with the love of the Lord. God bless all of us! N - NAVIGATING VALUES Ignite the Flame of Integrity! Our character must prove our genuineness, authenticity, conviction, clarity and conviction. E EXCEL IN RELATIONSHIP - Ignite the Flame of Relationship!
We must earn the trust of others, that we are credible, we need to persevere and show we really care. (Matthew 22:29) "Love your neighbor as yourself." Let us love one another, pray for one another. It is a commandment to all of us. You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let you light SHINE before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16) Jesus said "I am the Light of the world, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life." (John 8:12)
’Yan ang Lodi Ko—Petmalu! by aLfie vera mella elfideas102@yahoo.com
I
find absurdity in those who comment against the use of the currently trending (in social media such as Facebook) colloquial words such as “lodi” (palindrome of idol) and “petmalu” (syllabic jumbling of 'malupet'/skillful, agile, or awesome). The commenter said, "Ano ba naman yan, mga salitang pang-skwakwa; ang baduy naman!" What an irony and a display also of ignorance. Why? The commenter was ridiculing those who use colloquial words such as lodi and petmalu without realizing
that she herself had just also used colloquial terms such as skwakwa (squatters) and baduy (having bad taste; uncool; untrendy). The point I was making concerning this is that newly coined words such as lodi and petmalu need not be ridiculed. Because, one, the urge or tendency to coin new words (neologisms) usually through word-spelling reversal ("lodi," from 'idol') or word-pronunciation reversal ("lodya," from 'idol') or syllabic jumbling ("petmalu," from 'malupet,' meaning "exceptional") to provide one's clique or generation its own codified lingo is a universal
(On Acknowledging an Ongoing Cultural or Linguistic Development) phenomenon; Second, almost every word in a dictionary has undergone this process known as linguistic evolution or development, usually starting from a word's initially being only a slang/vulgar to colloquial until it becomes a legitimized or dictionarized word through the passing of time, depending on the frequency or popularity of its usage. Therefore, to laugh at an ongoing cultural or linguistic development is absurd and antiacademic. Anyone who laughs at this does not have a long-term foresight. She fails to realize or foresee that these seemingly
funny words can become serious, legitimate words in the future. For instance, the word 'butterfly' is a legitimate word, nothing funny nor absurd with it. But, if one will research its etymology or origin, one might be surprised to find out that the word 'butterfly' was coined from the observation that such insect loved perching on butter or secreted cream-like substance, thus the coined word 'butterfly.' Funny during that time, but now it's a dictionary word.

The Last Leaf In the end, only those who don't really use colloquial words, ever, have the right to ridicule those who do, without becoming a hypocrite in the process. Besides, one has to realize that perhaps all the words in the dictionary began their linguistic lives as neologisms. So, one should acknowledge that the seemingly laughable new words that coined usually by teenagers have their validity in the bigger picture of linguistic development.

ISIS funds triggers Maute’s attack of Marawi
Credit Counselling • Credit Rebuilding
Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año said the Maute group attacked Marawi to justify the funding given to them by the middle-east based ISIS. Speaking to CNN Philippines' News Night on Wednesday, Año said the ISIS under Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi gave the Maute group at least $1.5 million for the Marawi siege. It took five months of fighting before the government finally declared victory against the extremist group on October 23. ISIS aims to create an Islamic State in Iraq, Syria, and in other parts of the world.

friends and former colleagues, Drs. Roland and Irene Guzman, her nephew Eddie and Estrella Silastre, and Jean Guiang Santoro,
another former Winnipegger and one of the most active leaders in Winnipeg since the 70's and moved to Oakville after her marriage. Hot Rod Grill offered the most popular Pork BBQ, sinigang na halibut, pancit, lumpia shanghai, and ginataang hipon with winter squash and leche plan as a desert. Garlic sauteed
mushroom as appetizer together with achara. Pat's culinary trip satisfied her longing for Filipino cuisine and everyone enjoyed the lunch spiced with stories about her stay in Winnipeg before moving to California twenty-five years ago. Pat visits Winnipeg twice a year to re-connect with her countless relatives and friends.

I
t was a magical night as the Winnipeg Jets pummelled the defending Stanley Cup champions, Pittsburgh Penguins with the 7-1 win.
