QPAM’s Santacruzan brings the best of Quezonians in Manitoba
T
he early morning of Saturday May 28, dark clouds hovered the horizon and this led to change the alternative venue for the Quezon Province Association of Manitoba’s annual Santacruzan. The Maples Community Centre became the safer place to celebrate the colorful festivity honoring San Isidro, the patron of harvest; and Virgin Mary, the patron of Mayflower Festival. Sagalas and consorts arrived and excited to celebrate the most colorful fiesta. Food and aranyas were set up and the site of the mass was ready inside the centre. At midday, the sun came out and the officers decided to conduct the procession outside of the community centre . The weather cooperated with the festivity. The event was headed by 2011 Hermano & Hermana Mayor Norman & Candy Padilla, Hermanito & Hermanita Mayor Don & Anna Cymbalisty. The sagalas, from Reyna Elena “Jaimarie Jesmyne” to the angels, wore the traditional
costumes and consorts wore barongs. Two religious images, San Isidro and Virgin Mary, joined the procession and the officers, members and guests of QPAM rendered the song “Dios De Salve” while the procession went by. After the procession, the mass was

Gaano Ka Ka-Ipokrito?
(On Hypocrisy, Dishonesty, and the Courage to Live an Honest Life)
N
agsisimba tuwing Linggo. Araw-araw nagyoyosi. I think being hypocritical is a natural human tendency. Everyone falls in the folly of being a hypocrite once in a while. Therefore, what separates one human from another in that aspect is his ability to control that tendency or minimize his hypocrisy. The more honest one is with his words and actions and with his dealings, the less hypocrite he is. Following this premise, the worst hypocrites are those who proclaim that they are living honest and religious lives, imposing on others their faith and beliefs, yet continuously do things that defy the very teachings of what they believe in and what they are preaching--citing the weakness or imperfection of man as an excuse for their failure to practice what they preach and to abide by the teachings of their faiths. “Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have.” It is also the failure to practice those virtues that one preaches or to heed the teachings of the religion one believes in. Considering our very weak nature as humans, who harbor hypocrisy deep within each of us albeit in varying degrees, the question now is how hypocrite are you? Here are just a number of hypocritical ways many people fall victims of. The more you can see yourself doing these, the more hypocrite you are. If you think that you are guilty of all these then, sad to say, you are a very hypocritical person. But of course, there is a way to lessen the hypocrisy in your heart--by practicing what you profess or preach and by not criticizing activities other people do which you yourself also engage in. How Hypocritical Are You? - You go to your church regularly, and force your children (in case you have children) also to attend church; but you don’t
practice the teachings your religion asks you to. - You criticize other people for having liberated views--yet you also engage in some liberal activities like gambling, smoking, or drinking alcoholic beverages. - You smile at and talk with people you know, including people you don’t like; but you talk negative things about them behind their backs. - You impose on others your faith or your beliefs, but you Be mortgage mortgage free-faster with thethe right mortgage for right yourself don’t practice what you Be free-faster with right mortgage for now. right for now. Or, in Simple Words There are many simple things one does every day that may be considered hypocritical. And most of these a person does out of seeming courtesy or to please other people. But what he does not realize is that to do these things continuously without the will to stop them is to live a dishonest or hypocritical life. Yes, everyone has a tinge of hypocrisy inside him, but this doesn’t mean that he couldn’t improve himself in this aspect. The best way to overcome one’s hypocrisy is to say what you mean and mean what you say. If you don’t have the courage to do this, better yet just shut your mouth.

Review:
Fun at the Little Shop of Horrors! by Rod Escobar Cantiveros
Hilariously brilliant! This sums up the over-all performance of Winnipeg dentiststurned actors in the “Little Shop of Horrors” as presented by the Manitoba Dental Association for the first time. Tricia Magsino-Barnabe led the complete turnover of personality, from the dental chair into the stage at the Prairie Theatre Exchange in a 4-day fundraising initiative for cultural groups. And this all-dentist
musical “Little Shop of Horrors” became the perfect venue to show their singing, dancing and acting powers. Magsino-Barnabe maintained Audrey’s persona with fluidity of acting and singing and her role did not upstaged other characters but instead, she has become the binding force of the whole ensemble. And this had led other characters to shine, like Seymour, acted by Wally Mah. Wally Mah expanded his role with ease in acting and singing. Both Tricia and Wally blended well as
they both gave enough spaces for other actors to engage the inherent acting and singing talents of other characters. Both Tricia and Wally have been involved in stage performances in the past. Tricia was the lead actress when Rainbow Stage presented the Broadway hit “Miss Saigon”; as Maria in “West Side Story” during her senior years at Glenlawn Collegiate and other radio and television appearances. Wally Mah, on the other hand, had been on stage in musicals such as, “It’s A Wonderful Life”
The cast headed by two leading actors, Tricia and Wally, gave a souvernir to Kayla Gordon, the director of the all-dentist musical “Little Shop of Horrors”. At the back were some of the cast members.
and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Harvey Spiegel whose Mr. Mushnik role is so natural with a singing voice that showed his hidden talent in a musical. When’s his next performance? Randal Warkentin, as Orin Scrivello, DDS and Mrs. Luce, almost stole the show. As if it were a “SNL” (Saturday Night Live) revival, Randal had all the energy and natural capability to let the audience engaged with his strong character. Indeed, he has added flavour to the discriminating taste of Audrey II and of the audience of course. The four lovely ladies, Kristin Cuthbert, Natalia Ksiazkiewicz, Kelly Regula

and Angela Thomas sang with gusto and automatically gave the 60’s ambience and colors to the musical. Tom Colina suprisingly gave justice to his role and became compatible with the stage presence. The rest of the cast have proven that acting is in their blood! On the whole, the premier all-dentist musical presentation by the Manitoba Dental Association is the first step for more field trips into the legit theatre to showcase their untapped singing, dancing and acting talents. So, when you make an appointment with these dentiststurned actors, just ask him or her to sing before drilling your molars. It is worth the trip to a dentist!

“Heads will roll”
hile President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III has yet to make good on his oft-repeated promise – or threat -- that “heads will roll,” one of his controversial appointees took the honorable way out of an embarrassing situation. Sensing that the cards were stacked against him, Bureau of Corrections Director Ernesto “Totoy” Diokno pre-empted P-Noy by quitting the day after P-Noy told reporters that Diokno was in a “no-win” situation. Privileged friends When the Leviste “prison break” scandal erupted, P-Noy refused to take immediate action against Diokno, his longtime friend. But when Diokno tendered his “irrevocable resignation” during their meeting at Malacañang last May 31, 2011, P-Noy awkwardly announced, “public interest should always prevail over friendship.” In hindsight, I think it would have been better if P-Noy fired Diokno the moment the scandal erupted and then made that statement, which would have made him look like a decisive leader who would discipline or punish his friends if they committed a grave error in their jobs. Nevertheless, Diokno’s resignation saved P-Noy from the agony of not having the courage to fire him. Once again, P-Noy had to deal with a sensitive issue that has been haunting him since the August 23, 2010 Rizal Park hostage-taking fiasco where eight Chinese tourists from Hong Kong were massacred by the hostage-
taker. In that bloody incident, PNoy’s “shooting buddy” -- Rico E. Puno -- was criticized for “running away” from his responsibility as Undersecretary of Interior and Local Government who had oversight on security and police matters. A subsequent Department of Justice investigation panel recommended that Puno, together with several others, be charged criminally and/ or administratively; but P-Noy ignored their recommendations and instead absolved Puno of any malfeasance. Since then Puno avoided the media and went “underground.” Other than unconfirmed news report that he was in “training” at the FBI Academy in New York, his whereabouts was a mystery. Then after an eight-month hiatus, Puno resurfaced a few days ago, like a grizzly bear coming out of hibernation. However, he insisted that he had always been around doing his job. Oh yeah? Besides Puno, another “shooting buddy,” Land Transportation Office Administrator Virginia Torres, was under fire over the controversial Stradcom deal. P-Noy fended calls for her resignation or firing by ordering her to take a 60-day leave of absence. She’s been off the radar screen since then; however, it remains to be seen if she would return to her job when her “sabbatical” ended. Privileged prisoners But while the Diokno scandal has simmered down, another scandal erupted involving former Maguindanao Governor
Andal Ampatuan Sr. -- the alleged Maguindanao massacre mastermind – who was reportedly given VIP treatment at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig where he is being detained pending his arraignment for the massacre of 58 unarmed civilians last November 23, 2009. After being informed of the special treatment accorded to Ampatuan Sr., P-Noy fired another “heads will roll” salvo against those who were complicit in giving Ampatuan Sr. VIP privileges, which included getting a massage from another prisoner outside his cell and having 13 visitors all at once, a violation to the “three visitors per inmate” rule. And hear this: according to the massacre victims’ lawyer, Atty. Harry Roque, Ampatuan Sr. was seen dining at the five-star Hotel Sofitel in Pasay City. How nice. The report about Ampatuan Sr.’s VIP treatment prompted DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo to suspend the jail warden and other jail personnel. But it shouldn’t stop there; suspension is just a mere pinch on the ear. P-Noy should make good on his promise that “heads will roll” if he wants to instill discipline in the country’s prison system. P-Noy is also concerned that the wheel of justice has been turning at a very slow pace. The Department of Justice prosecution team ought to be reorganized and replaced with topnotch prosecutors who have the ability to parry the delaying legal tactics that the defense lawyers employ. The defense lawyers know that delays could weaken the government’s case against the Ampatuans, which could end in a mistrial or – God forbid! – acquittal. As they say, “Justice delayed, justice denied.” Corrupt government officials And on top of all these problems, P-Noy is faced with the task of cleaning up the Bureau of Customs. Indeed, corruption is so widespread at Customs

that cleaning it up is likened to cleaning up the Payatas garbage dump: “Mission Impossible.” The recent arrest of a Filipino businessman, Lynard Allan Bigcas, a permanent resident in the United States, unraveled a huge car smuggling network in the Philippines. In its investigation, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) linked powerful politicians and ranking government officials to the car-smuggling activities. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation also confirmed that some of the cars smuggled to the Philippines were reported missing in the U.S. The NBI also revealed the existence of a “black book” containing the names of influential and powerful people in southern Philippines, which include a congressman, a governor, a mayor, a police colonel, politicians, and other ranking government officials in the region. Rampant smuggling Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez has been under fire for the recent spate of smuggling activities. He also fell short of projected revenues, which could be attributed to rampant smuggling. A couple of years ago, during the Arroyo administration, China
9
reported exporting $20 billion to the Philippines. However, for that same year, the Philippines reported importing only $12 billion from China. What happened to the $8billion discrepancy? It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the goods were smuggled in with the connivance of customs officials. Alvarez, who serves at the pleasure of the President, appealed to P-Noy to give him more time to curb smuggling activities. He said that smuggling cannot be stopped overnight but he promised that he’d curb 80% in three years. But it’s been almost a year since Alvarez became the head honcho at Customs and so far no progress is being made to stop smuggling. To corrupt officials, smugglers, and fixers, it’s “business as usual.” And some might even say, “It’s never been better!” The question is: Should PNoy give Alvarez another chance? Or should he let go of him and appoint someone who has the cojones to go after smugglers regardless who they are or who are protecting them? P-Noy needs a pitbull, not a poodle, to go after smugglers. Alvarez is no pitbull. Mr. President, please make good on your promise that heads will roll.

Winnipeggers get Agaga! on Jet’s return! by Hot Rod Cooking
S
uddenly, tuesday morning’s sun went up earlier in the prairie sky and without further ado, Winnipeggers got agaga! At last, after fifteen years of hockey deprivation, a hockey team is back! The news got sucked in on the broadcast media! Tv and radio hosts had become more agaga on the greatest news ever received in this far white wide north of the centre of the globe! And as if Winnipeg had become the centre stage of hockiness! Alas, Winnipeggers, at most, Manitobans, are alive again! Adrenalin and testesterone are high again! Winnipeggers woke up from the haitus to superheated news of the decade! “I could not believe it, man?” “Wow, i will postpone our wedding plan... ticket first!” On the eve of the announcement, the city dwellers never had a chance to sleep on Monday night and had become insomiacs for final news on the return of the proverbial jet hockey team to the h20 deluge land of the prairrie from the land of jam and cracker nut Atlanta Georgia. By night, programmers and
officers had all the paraphernalia for possible announcement. The Forks would be the site of the hockey slambang and at MTS would be the place where the hockey biggies would crack the biggest eggpectations about the return of the hockey! Winnipeg again is on the hockey map? At the Forks, the parking lot was a makeover for a floor hockey game. Young and old played. And as Lady Agaga sings and pardon Lady Agaga, I would localize her song: “I do not care if your white or a black, a native or Filipino or chinese, or Canuck or a yankee... do not just be hockey nut...but a buyer of the first 13,000 season tickets! Boom! We were born this way! Die hard jet fans tried to relocate their jerseys! “Mom, where is my jet jersey?” Remember, son, we had to get rid of those heartaches...it is gone.” “Mom, did you? Fifteen years mom, i was still on the edge of my puberty and hockey is my rite of passing to adulthood, and now i will be deprived of showing to my friends that I have been a jet hockey nut?” “Surprise, son...you even not have
had attended the moose game regularly.” “That is not true, Mom, i do follow the Canucks since day one and i know that they can beat the Boston guys!” And many moms and dad had been looking around to find the old jet jersey. One young guy had a worn-out t-shirt with Hawerchulk printed at the back. Someone asked: “ Can I buy your t-shirt...i love Dale!” “No, this a family heirloom...eh.” “I will help you to put that t-shirt at ebay...more money.” And all that Tuesday, many jet fans had been wearing t-shirt and hockey jerseys with Jet hockey players printed at the back. Sellane and Hawerchuck overshadowed other players like Hull, Caryle, Domi,(see those pics). Ron, my son, has the jet jersey! Wow! I am impressed! The return of the hockey team in Winnipeg has become the mantra for everyone....hotels put their signs: Welcome Back, Jet! There was a sign along Pembina: Happy Birthday, Tina... and Hockey is back, sweetheart! T-shirt dealer had kicked Bateman with a t-shirt souvenir: Bateman sucks! $40.00 man! And wonders of all: hockey puck being played
made of compressed can drink; a ball, and the presence of clone Stanley Cup! While Assinibboine River is raging, up to the benches along the walkway, beers flowed! Hamburgers clogged their mouths! Lips licked the lucious ice cream and coffee defined the energy driven Forks goers! For sure, cash registers will be ringing again and hopefully, Winnipeg Downtown will be turned into a land of yayayaland from the land of bores and downton hangers-on! And of course, more panhandlers would multiply as crowd becomes denser and moneyed! I remember the Winnipeg Arena ( i took hundreds of photoshots before it was demolished) as the centre of jockey jokes and frustrations. Until it had become obvious: “Jet is going to the other planet! Winnipeggers could not financially support the Winnipeg Jet! It sucked! Were we a third class city? Look at Alberta: two great hockey teams- Oilers of Edmonton; and Flame of Calgary! And now, Winnipeg would not hold the hockey team? Poor wWnnipeggers! Poor politicians! Cheerypickers, aha! That’s it...we’re cheap! We’re totally in the frostlike existence! And when the Winnipeg Arena was boldozed, dream of having a hockey game went with the dust

on the city’s last bite! We were as if the third world hockey city! We do not deserve this suffering, man! Just watch CBC hockey nite and gulf dark ale beer and eat a mouthful of potato chips! And that was the beginning of the generation of coach potato, eh? I love hockey and my two sons love it so much...one time, i was with them watching the game...and because i was so emotional, especially in the dying seconds of the game and i would be in the losing side, i do shouts and snuts! “Dad, sit down.” It is only a hockey game,” my son John would say out of embarrassment. And when the Moose was enshrined into the hearts of the Winnipeggers, I was out of the line. For me, Winnipeg Jet has no replacement! I just watch their poster: And thru my blistering eyes, it looks like the Jet behind those images! Good omen i suppose! First from the land of the rampaging Coyotes; and then to the mighty smash of the Thrashers! And Ron has to work hard to drive him crazy to the Drive 13,000 hockey season tickets! And he has the story! At my age, I just went Agogo last Tuesday at the Forks! “Don’t be a drag, be a hockey king! AMEN!

Jinkee Pacquiao begs off to guest live on ‘Ellen’
J
inkee Pacquiao admitted she refused the offer to guest on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” because she lacks good command of English. Although she confessed that she regretted passing off the chance to guest on the prestigious show, she
explained she is just being true to herself. The wife of Manny Pacquiao also feared she is just exposing herself to criticism for her incorrect grammar. Her limited English might also put her on trouble if she happens to say
differently than what she intends to say during the live interview. She said she could have readily agreed if the offer is for a taped interview. On the comment of some people that she has already became a “Material Girl” for her penchant for shopping the most expensive signature bags, shoes, accessories and clothes, Pacquiao’s wife just said she doesn’t mind it at all. She also revealed that she will personally announce to the public if the promised visit to the Philippines of socialite Paris Hilton, whom she met during Manny’s last fight with Sugar Shane Mosley, will push trough. Filipino performers who have guested live on “Ellen” were international singing sensation Charice Pempengco, young singer Ralph Salazar and Arnel Pineda of the American rock band Journey.
Kristine Hermosa to continue showbiz career after giving birth
A
ctress Kristine Hermosa is now six weeks pregnant with her first child with husband Oyo Sotto just over five months after their wedding on January 11. The pretty actress said she and Oyo are very happy and excited because they didn’t expect having a baby so soon. She also said that the coming baby further strengthens their relationship with each other. Hermosa acknowledged that motherhood will change her life completely particularly when
it comes to dividing her time, priorities, and knowledge on being a mother and how to raise a child. To this end her mom, Alma, and mother-in-law Dina Bonnevie have advised her not to stress herself and to eat only healthy foods. After giving birth, Hermosa said she would devote full time on her baby and will definitely breastfeed. If given the choice, she said she will continue her showbiz career because she believes it is God’s will for her to act and inspire people.

Getting MORE done by switchtasking
An evening with the MFBC and Sharon Evans
T
he MFBC had another successful event well attended by the members to listen to the coach, author, speaker and trainer Sharon Evans. She has a technology background, has been in business for 9 years (3 businesses), and is a board member of the Women’s Business Owners of Manitoba. Sharon’s presentation focused on how to get “MORE”. She presented a short exercise and statistics on how MULTITASKING can take longer than using your time more wisely by concentrating on one topic/task at a time. She went on to present facts about SWITCHTASKING a culprit of inefficiency and low productivity in the work place. Save time by only doing one thing at once. Women are usually better switch taskers than men - this fact caused chuckles amongst the MFBC members. She shared tips about managing e-mail responses, as e-mail itself is also slows down work flow. Tips included to set an out of office reply to let clients and anyone e-mailing you know that you have a time period in your day to respond to e-mails. This way you are not spending your day exclusively on e-mails - this is the same for phone calls - set your message to state the time period you are available. She went further to share advice on how to make people (your employees, clients and loved ones) feel important by practicing proper smart phone etiquette which is a fast growing communication trend that requires a conscientious effort to keep ensure respect in our business and personal relationships; so, do not talk and text at the same time.
Final thoughts from Sharon ranged from - finding your “niche” passion, making that your career guide and really showing people what that is about ( perhaps writing a book!!! Check out Sharon’s book Zoomfactor). The information above only describes the tip of the iceberg when it comes to bringing focus and clarity to aspects of your life in business. Also, it was a great inspiration to meet two home grown successful businesses run by two young and dynamic Filipino Business owners Tia Provici of PROVICI Cosmetics and Mike Nava owner of Connect Four Clothing who shared their experiences, challenges and successes in business ownership. Their shop was the venue of the evening was full of ideas, advice, fun, motivation, and inspiration that evening not to mention fashion! It is beneficial to meet with other members of our business communities and to bring back valuable friendships and information to improve our business and personal lives. If you missed this presentation and wine and cheese event, don’t miss anymore! We would be happy to have you join us. Next MFBC meeting will be held at Canad Inn’s on June 16th at 7 pm.. Keynote speaker is Christine Dubyts of Dubyts Communications Inc. who will be covering Branding your business - Members are free - Future members and guests $20.00. Please register for the event at register@ mfbc.ca Big Thank you to: Sharon Evans 210-1600 Kenaston Blvd.

After
Before To get the look:
Step 1
Step 2
To start you want to make sure your skin is nice and hydrated so the makeup can sit properly on the skin. Prep your skin with Radiance Serum for added nutrients to tone and tighten the skin. Apply our Wrinkle Relaxant Crème for added hydration. This moisturizer restores elasticity and collagen production in the skin to slow down the formation of future wrinkles.
Apply Vanilla Eye Shadow to the brow bone for brow highlight. It is a matte shadow so anyone at any age can wear it.
Step 6 We added some warmth to the cheeks with Peppermint Blush.
Just log onto www.provici.com or visit Tia at PROVICI Cosmetics, now located at 233 Mc Dermot Ave. or call (204) 957-1544 for more info.
Step 4
Step 3 Take Serene Eye Shadow and apply it to the entire eye lid. Using this light pink keeps it fresh and opens up the eyes.
Step 7 To finish off the look we filled in her lips with Tearose Lip Pencil. It’s a soft plumy pink lip color shade.
To line the eyes use the Precision Angle Brush with the Mahogany Crème Liner (a chocolate brown instead of black) and line the top of the eyelid only. Do it in a fine line so it defines the eye but is still natural and not noticeable. Then apply mascara in black waterproof to prevent it from running from the sun’s heat.
Step 8 If you like some gloss add Super Candy Gloss on top.
Step 5 Clean away any eye shadow fallings before starting with the skin. To add a dewy glow to the skin we used our Mineral Sheer Tint. This Mineral Sheer Tint is a moisturizer, sun protector and foundation all in one that reduces the appearance of fine lines. In the summer it’s great for a quick on the go moisturizer and foundation in one! Set the t-zone to reduce shine with Sand Mineral Powder. Products used

Pacman vs. Lagman
C
ongressman Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, returning a “hero” after he beat Shane Mosley, interpellated congressman Edcel Lagman on the floor of the House of Representatives. Lagman is in favor of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, which is now pending in the House, while Pacman is against it. The following is a blow-by-blow account of their bout: Pacman: Mr. Speaker, I rise to interpret the gentleman from Albay on his stand on the RH bill.
Speaker: Interpret? Or do you mean to say, interpellate? Pacman: Same thing, same thing. Speaker: For the information of the gentleman from Sarangani, “interpret” and “interpellate” are not the same thing. Which one would it be, Mr. Congressman? Pacman: Interpolate? Hmm… Listen, all I want is to ask the gentleman from Albay a few questions, okey? Speaker: It’s not interpolate, it’s interpellate! Pacman: Same thing, same thing. Speaker: Okay, okay. Shoot!

Pacman: Huh? Bang! Bang! Speaker: What I mean is go ahead and ask your questions. Pacman: Well, you said, “shoot,” and that’s what I did. Bang! Bang! He he he… Lagman: Mr. Speaker, may I ask that you tell the gentleman from Sarangani to stop his antics. Speaker: Will the gentleman from Sarangani stop his antics? Pacman: Mr. Speaker, I am a world champion, not an antique! Speaker: Okay, okay. Let’s move on, Mr. Champion! Pacman: Mr. Speaker, I move that we kill the Reproductive Health bill because it’s killing babies. Lagman: Point of order, Mr. Speaker. We’re debating the bill, not voting on it. Speaker: The gentleman from Sarangani is out of order. Please proceed with your interpellation of the gentleman from Albay. Pacman: Mr. Speaker, I’m not out of order. Actually, I’m in good shape after beating Mosley in the ring. He he he… Speaker: Okay, okay. Proceed with your interpret… Interpol…
shucks! I mean, interpellation! Whew! Maloloko ako. Pacman: Okey, Mr. Speaker, my first question is: Does the RH bill require men to use condoms? Lagman: That’s one method of artificial contraception that can be used. Pacman: Does it require women to take birth control pills? Lagman: That’s another method of artificial contraception. Pacman: I believe that any method of artificial contraception is a sin. Don’t you think so? Lagman: Well, I read it in the newspapers that your wife was taking birth control pills until you took a stand against the RH bill. Pacman: Well… err… I wasn’t aware of that. Lagman: And is it true that you were using condoms, as well? Pacman: I wasn’t aware… err… I mean… err… Hey! I’m supposed to be the one asking questions, not you! Lagman: Do I take it then that you’re not denying using condoms, Mr. Champion? Pacman: Mr. Speaker, the gentleman from Albay is out of order! Lagman: Mr. Speaker, I’m just trying to make a point that if it’s okay for the gentleman from Sarangani to use condoms why shouldn’t it be okay for all men to use condoms? And if it’s also okay for his wife to use birth control pills, why shouldn’t it be okay for all women to use birth control pills?

Speaker: The gentleman from Albay is in order to ask the interpellator questions to support his own arguments. Continue. Pacman: I want to be on record that I believe that the best method to control birth is cebilacy. Lagman: Cebilacy? What is that? Speaker: I think what Mr. Champion meant was “celibacy,” right? Pacman: Same thing, same thing. Lagman: Is the gentleman from Sarangani then saying that he is practicing cebilacy… I mean celibacy, because he is no longer using condoms and his wife is no longer taking birth control pills? Pacman: I’m not practicing cebilacy right now cuz I want to make more babies. I have four kids right now and I want 10 more! So for the next 20 years, no condoms, no birth control pills, no cebilacy. Lagman: You want to have 10 more children? You are contributing to overpopulation, Mr. Champion! Pacman: I’m just obeying what God told me to do: “Go and multiply.” Besides, the great politician Amang Rodriguez used to say, “Politics is addition.” And since I believe in God and I’m also a politician, my slogan is very simple: “Multiply and add.” Lagman: Mr. Speaker, I think I’m going crazy! I quit! Speaker: Me, too!

Even Better than the Real Thing (On Meeting One’s Personal Icons)
E
very person looks up to some icons—music, literary, political, sports, or of any other forms of art and showbusiness. These icons are obviously a reflection of the person’s passions. Perhaps in these icons the enthusiast can see himself, or he could well relate with what they’re professing. Or, he simply enjoys or admires their works. For instance, a music enthusiast will definitely look up to certain artists or a bibliophile to some literary authors. The politically inclined will certainly get excited upon seeing in person the likes of US President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. A big fan of sports will definitely go ballistic if he sees Canadian hockey star Wayne Gretsky or American
basketball player Kobe Bryant or even Filipino international boxing champ Manny Pacquiao. As for me, whose longtime and most favorite genre of music is Rock, I get starstruck every time I watch music celebrities in concerts and, most especially, when I get the chance to meet them in person. I’m not a big fan of autographs and merchandise signing; I rather have photographs taken of me with such music icons. In the many years of my being a music fan, I have had the chance to meet many music icons and had photographs taken of me with them. These included Peter Coyle and Jeremy Kelly of The Lotus Eaters, in August 2002; and Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon of China Crisis, in December 2002;
when these classic English New Wave bands toured the Philippines in separate occasions. Here in Winnipeg, I met Mark Osegueda of Death Angel, when the USbased Filipino-American Thrash Metal band played The Zoo on April 15; the Vancouver-based Canadian songwriter/accordionist Geoff Berner, when he played West End Cultural Centre on April 30; and the Toronto-based Canadian Metal band Anvil, when the trio (Steve “Lips” Kudlow, vocalist/guitarist; Robb Reiner, drummer; and Glenn Five, bassist) performed at Pyramid Cabaret on May 24. However, the ultimate Rock experience I and Charina with our son Evawwen had had so far was the day we met Bono of the Irish Postpunk band U2. On May 27, a small number of fans including us had gathered at the parking lot of Burton Cummings Theatre, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Irish quartet, who would be rehearsing for their Sunday concert at Canad Inns Stadium. Around 7 p.m., guitarist David Evans (better known as The Edge), bassist Adam Clayton, and Paul Hewson (better known as Bono Vox) arrived at the venue. Perhaps because the crowd was small, U2—instead of heading straight into the theater—stayed outside for a while, greeting fans, signing autographs, and posing for pictures. When Bono got near us, Charina caught his attention by shouting, “Bono, I love you!” Then Charina took the opportunity; she said, “Bono, can I take a picture of you with my husband and our son?” Bono smiled and said, “Of course”; and

he posed beside me, who was carrying Evawwen. Bono even said to Evawwen, “You cool little guy. I want to be like you when I grow up.” Charina asked if he and the rest of U2 would go to the Philippines, to which he replied, “I would love to.” The next day, we were surprised to see a picture of Bono with us in the local newspaper Winnipeg Free Press. Some kind of luck and chance? Probably but not totally. I always believe that you can never leave your fate entirely to chance. More than anything, you should have determination, hard work, initiative, and the confidence to pursue what you want to do. You work hard to accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself.
to watch one of the greatest bands in the world. We were only in the general-admission area, but it didn’t matter anymore. We already met Bono in person and the rare moment was immortalized in a few photographs. And that rare moment was indeed really better than the real concert. Nevertheless, we truly enjoyed the astounding show attended by about 50,000 people. I was singing along and dancing to the groove right from the very first song, “Even Better than the Real Thing,” through the concert closer, “With or Without You.” Why not? I’ve been an enthusiast of U2 music and the entire Postpunk and New Wave genre since the early 1980s. In fact, the first U2 music that I owned was a cassette tape copy of Final Note U2’s first album, which I bought Sunday evening, we finally headed to Canad Inns Polo Park in 1985.

ot every application filed with the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program is approved. The questions are: why was the application refused and what can be done about it? Why was the application refused? Some of the more common reasons for refusing an application include the following: 1. the province feels that the applicant may have stronger ties to another province or territory in Canada; 2. the applicant has been unable to establish that he or she has the ability and intention to establish permanently in Manitoba; 3. the documents or information provided has missing information or the information is not truthful; 4. the applicant cannot demonstrate sufficient settlement funds; 5. the applicant cannot demonstrate employability in Manitoba; 6. in general stream applications, the applicant does not score the minimum 55 points; 7. the applicant has not demonstrated training, experience, certification or licensing and language ability for long term

Horoscope This is one of the best periods for enjoying the fruits of success. Financially this is a time when money should come your way.
This is an extremely busy and active period for you. All the balls are in your court, and you have to meet with different people who all have a role in advancing your agenda.
It might be a good time to make a thorough scrutiny of the real you, an honest assessment of your face, figure, health and assets and seek to implement a make-over where necessary.
You will have a sense of awareness of your own limitations this month, leading up to your birthday phase, be they physical, emotional or even financial, as well as a sense of being confined and restricted. There could be some rivalry, hard feelings generated that could trigger off either of these reactions.
Extend warmth and friendship, as well as cooperation at work. All the trends, which started last month, will now gain momentum, focus and direction. You reach out to people in a rare show of warmth, connubial bliss and friendship.
Recognition, rewards, greater power and prestige, even your assets, property, belongings are enhanced greatly. The time is being truly generous, and you deserve it.
You may be making changes in your job/profession, in your relationships with colleagues and co-workers, health and diet. There may be some mental strain, or perhaps financial difficulties, particularly relating to held-up payments that are still pending, salaries or servants.
Long-distance and foreign connections, exchange and trade will be favored. You’ll travel a fair amount and may strike up a chance acquaintance who shares your views, ideals and ideas.
Once again, you’ll have to focus your attention on money matters even though there may still be some health problems nagging at you. Pending matters may come to an end.
This is a very playful period of the year, when you are inspired creatively and emotionally. After a period of selfprotectiveness, you are now more spontaneous and more willing to take risks.
Now the focus shifts on people and relationships, ranging from personal to platonic to just professional. You will realize that to help you achieve success your people skills need to be honed.
House or office may require renovation, refurbishing or expansion. Perhaps even a shift for either the office home factory/workplace. You want working conditions that satisfy you in every way, physically, technically and in the prevailing atmosphere and will take pains to achieve just that.

Manny Pacquiao Offered $65 Million to Face a young and undefeated Mexican boxer
A
fter the successful fight with Shane Mosley, another interesting and tempting offer from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, reportedly offering our own Filipino boxing champion Rep. Manny Pacquiao a guaranteed $65 million to come to Mexico for a fight, and it’s rumored the opponent in mind is young and undefeated Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Slim would pick the opponent. Slim has a reported net worth of $74 billion, which currently makes him the richest man in the world according to
Forbes. Alvarez doesn’t turn 21 until July 8 carries a 36-0-1 win-loss-draw record, and has a dangerous fight with Ryan Rhodes on June 18, but he’s already a huge star in Mexico and is billed as the next great Mexican champion. Slim is allegedly negotiating now with Pacquiao’s team, including Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson. This was revealed by Singson, a long-time confidante of Pacquiao. Singson’s report came after Top Rank’s Bob Arum revealed that American boxer Floyd
Mayweather Jr. had turned down a $65 million offer from a Singaporean group to fight Pacquiao. With this offer we believe Manny Pacquiao will not turn down this proposal. But the big question is whether the side of Pacquiao will allow him to fight again on 154 weight divisions after having a lesson on the damage that he took against Antonio Margarito. Arum said that Middleweight is not suited for Pacquiao. In a latest statement released by Arum, he said that it would still depend on Pacquiao.

ureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Ernesto Diokno quit his post Monday as a result of the furor created by the unauthorized trip of convicted killer former Batangas Governor Jose Antonio Leviste outside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) two weeks ago. vacation stimulate further growth of the domestic base. The DOT also joined hands with the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) and Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) for programs to support the campaign.
Last March, the DOT has also endorsed Johnson & Johnson Philippines’ domestic tourism advocacy campaign “Basta Pinas,” which involves public relations and new media efforts towards getting the public to explore the Philippines.
Leviste’s custodian at the NBP, Fortunato Justo, is the only person facing criminal charges over the prison break case. Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) National Capital Region and the Intelligence Services agents arrested Leviste shortly after boarding his car outside the LPL Towers in Makati City which he owns. The NBI charged Leviste with evasion of sentence before the DoJ. His driver Nilo Solis, who was nabbed him, was charged as an accomplice.
As a result of the three-day investigation of the DoJ panel, Justice Undersecretary Francisco Baraan said a recommendation on the overhaul of the systems in place at BuCor and NBP will be submitted to President Benigno S. Aquino III. Meanwhile, President Aquino said during a press conference in Malacañang that Diokno’s resignation rendered the administrative case against him moot and academic. He also hinted that Diokno may be re-appointed to another government position.

earless. Exciting. Fun to watch... those are just a few ways to describe MMA fighter Eric Perez. One of Winnipeg’s rising stars in the Mixed Martial Arts world. I had the pleasure of interviewing him for The Weigh In, here’s Ten Questions with Eric C M FJ-Wpg Emerald Palace (Dec20-Jan05,2010)1.pdf Perez: Y K Width: 4” Height: 2.5”
1) How did you get your start in MMA? EP: 12 yrs ago I found an event online in Clinton, Iowa that was looking for fighters with ‘no experience’ . My friends and I had been working out together watching jiu jitsu instructional tapes and hitting pads for about a Creative Services

year or so. I decided to enter and actually had to pay a $50 entry fee and that was how I started. 2) Who is your biggest influence as a fighter? EP: Wanderlei Silva has always been my favorite fighter. I like his aggressive go forward style and the way he goes for the finish every fight. Another fighter I’ve always admired is Kazushi Sakuraba, I like the way he puts on a show for the crowd when he fights. He tries high risk, high reward moves to win fights but also to please the crowd. He was so far ahead of his time when he Pride Fighting was in its beginning. 3) If you could fight anyone, past or present, any weight class ... who would it be? EP: Kazushi Sakuraba. He is a showman and has a well rounded game. We would put on an unbelievable fight!

4) What’s your favorite “pig out” food once you’re done cutting weight” EP: I’ll eat just about anything that is bad when I’m done. I really enjoy and like to take advantage of my time between fights. 5) What is your walkout music and how did you pick it? Choke - Interlude It has no lyrics and it’s a song that doesn’t get old to me. Now that I’ve been using it for so long it helps me visualize while I train and calms me down when I get ready to walk down the ramp. 6) What sports outside of MMA do you watch and what team(s) do you cheer for? EP: I used to watch a lot of hockey. I don’t watch as much anymore because the game is not as enjoyable without fighting. Photo by: Michael Talastas, www.Li7Photo. Hockey was great in the 80’s and com early to mid 90’s, now, not so much. 7) Who was your team? EP: I used pull for the Edmonton Oilers. 8) Who would you want to star as you in the movie of your life? EP: I have no idea, a friend of mine said I look like John Leguizamo. I guess he’s pretty funny, it’s gotta be a comedy though. 9) To show the other side of a fighter... what was your favorite childhood toy? Hugh McFadyen | MLA, Fort Whyte EP: My bike, I spent a lot of hughmcfadyen@mts.net time riding my bike when I was a kid. 10) Last question: When can we see you fight again? I’m fighting September 10th at the Canadian Fighting Championship 7 show here in Winnipeg. It is my 6th appearance for this organization, it’ my home, my show and I’m looking to go 6-0 for the CFC. Thanks so much for the interview Eric! I highly recommend you get your tickets to CFC 6. With an Eric Perez fight, you’ll be sure to get your money’s worth!
