FIVE This is the Word which has the key that allows us to get to know our world, both the world that surrounds us and the more distant reality. FIVE comprises our five senses: taste, smell, touch, hearing and sight. Through them and from an early age all of us, regardless of our origin, build our knowledge at a personal and a collective level. At the same time, we form our identity as individuals and as members of our community. In our memory remain the smells of our childhood like the sea, the wet soil… lullabies and child games… the taste of just made bread… the softness of our mother's touch… the images of our first books…. As time goes by we widen all these experiences and share them with other people and other countries. As a consequence, we realize that the little things of our daily life bring us closer, together, more than they separate us. In these lines and on the following pages, FIVE project proposes to share all our experiences and expect to live new ones. Pablo Berrozpe (General coordinator of the project)

Agrupamento de Escolas de Castelo de Paiva - Portugal
Presentation of the Portuguese school
We are from Castelo de Paiva, a little village near the city of Oporto. Our school is called Escola Secundária de Castelo de Paiva and it has 900 students. It belongs to the Agrupamento de Escolas de Castelo de Paiva, which is attended by more than 2000 students.
Our school has been recently renewed, so now we have plenty of space and better facilities for all the th th students and teachers in Castelo de Paiva from the 8 form to the 12 form.
Our school has already participated in various Comenius Projects such as “H.E.L.L.O.”, “G.A.M.E.S.”, “Y.E.S.”, “H.E.L.P.” and it is now in “F.I.V.E.” Project.

The following pages will show you how we were engaged in all the activities held within the first phase of the project.
English Debating Society
T
he English Debating Society is an extracurricular activity implemented in our school by the English teachers and by thirty-seven students aiming at promoting the practice of using English as an important language of communication amongst the students. In the different sessions of the EDS students debate about different subjects of interest, such as euthanasia, the environment, homework, genetic manipulation, among others. We, divided in two groups, get together once a week and the rules used on debates are based on the same rules as the English Parliament. In the debate sessions we have three big groups: - an adjudicator that moderates the debate and dictates the rules of the debate helped by a timekeeper that controls the time; - the debaters (four teams of two speakers) that are divided in two sides (proposition and opposition); - and, finally, we have the audience, which can present questions or points of information to the speakers at the end of the debate. One of the most important characteristics of our
debates is that the student only finds out what the motion is on the day of the debate, more precisely fifteen minutes before the debate. Most important of all is that we all have fun during the EDS sessions, so it's a good way to improve our English and enjoy ourselves at the same time!

Analysis of the results of the questionnaire on TASTE and final comment:
T
he first and the second questions are related with our childhood- the food and flavours we didn't like but that we like now. The first question is about our memory related with flavours. Most of the people (48%) said that they just remembered a few of the flavours; then, 24% said a lot and the rest, 14%, don't remember. From these answers we could perceive that the majority of the inquired people still remember the flavours of their childhood, which is good because they remember how good or bad the food they ate tasted. The second question is about something that we didn't like as children and that we like now. Most people (86 %) replied affirmatively; then, (12%) gave a clear “no” and, finally, 2% said “I don't know”. From these answers we could conclude that with the time people start appreciating some food that they didn't like when they were children. The third and the fourth questions are related with the different dishes in the other parts of the world and the dishes that are original from our own country. The third question was about trying different dishes from other parts of the world and the options to this question were “quite a lot”, “not quite” and “not at all”. Most people (68%) replied “quite a lot”; then, 24% said “not 5
quite” and, finally, 8% chose “not at all”. From these answers we understood that most people, and probably mostly the young people, like to try new dishes because they are trying something from different cultures, and the remaining 8% are probably the ones that prefer the traditional food to other dishes. The fourth question is about the ability that people have to recognize the traditional dishes. Most people (46%) answered “with difficulty”, 38% said “easily” and the remaining 16% said “no”. With these answers we could conclude that most of the people, even with difficulty, can recognize the traditional dishes. The fifth question refers to the connection between the five senses and it asks if the sense of taste is related to the other senses. Most of the people that replied the questionnaire answered affirmatively which means that most of the people have already experienced and acknowledge the connection between the senses. The sixth question is related to the frequency in which the people take their breakfast and, as most of the people answered that they take breakfast every morning, we can assume that they know how important breakfast is, as it is the first meal of the day.
Agrupamento de Escolas de Castelo de Paiva - Portugal
The seventh and the eighth questions are related to eating habits. They are about how people think that the type of food they eat affects their health and how often they eat fast food. A great number of people recognize that the food they eat affects their health and they occasionally eat fast food, which means that they are careful with their health and their eating habits. In question number 9 the students were asked if they usually looked at the information provided on the food packaging which should always be done because we should always know what we eat. The results showed us that most of them read it, but only sometimes, which is better than nothing. We have also found out that only a few of the inquired people don't do it at all. Question number 10 wanted to find out if the students thought that schools should guide students on a healthy and balanced diet, which we believe should be a priority for schools. Almost everybody answered affirmatively, because it is an important task. Once again only a small share of the students answered negatively, that family is the one that should take that responsibility. th The 11 question tried to discover how often students prepare traditional dishes at home and the answers were a little bit divided between “only in special occasions” and “every day”. There isn't a correct answer to this question but we should eat traditional
food often or every day, not only because it is a way to preserve our culture, but also because most of the times it is a great way to s a v e m o n e y. I n t h i s question, like in most of the above questions, only a tiny part answered “no”. 70% of the people who answered question 13 stated that there are markets or exhibitions in the region they live in where they can find traditional products that can be bought, tasted or consumed. However, in question 12 most people (64%) answered that they didn't know of any institution or school where they could learn about the traditional way of cooking, which means that people know where they can find traditional products even though they don't know of places where traditional ways of cooking are taught. In the 14th question, 34 people (68%) answered that there are some food items and products related to festivals and celebrations completing question 15 where 35 people (70%) said that the traditional food is not vanishing from the region. This means that traditional recipes and some types of food are still being used and cooked by the population, especially in typical celebrations and festivals. 6
Agrupamento de Escolas de Castelo de Paiva - Portugal
Question 16 asked if we thought that the European Union should promote and support the traditional food and products from each region and the majority of the answers were affirmative. Most of the students thought that the European Union should support it. Almost no one answered “no or that they didn't care. General comment/conclusion: When we analyze the results of this questionnaire about taste we came to a lot of conclusions. At first, we realised that the majority of the people that were asked have memories of some flavours from their childhood, but since that time, they have learned to appreciate other new dishes and flavours. In fact, most of the people like to try new dishes, especially from other parts of the world, but only with difficulty can they match a dish with its country of origin. We also perceived that a great number of people who answered the questionnaire said that there was a strong connection between the sense of taste and other senses as they complement each other. These people also take breakfast on a regular basis and only occasionally do they eat fast food in their families. Furthermore, the people who replied the questions also believe that people's health is associated with the type of food they eat. Despite this recognized importance, only sometimes do most people read the information provided on the food packaging. They also think that schools should guide students on a healthy and balanced diet but they don't know if there are some institutions or schools where people can learn about the traditional cuisine in their region. The majority frequently, or at least in special
7
occasions related with some types of dishes, prepare traditional dishes at home, a habit they believe is not disappearing. They conclude by saying that the European Union should promote and support the traditional food and products from each region.
The Project Logo
T
he Portuguese students were divided in eleven groups. Each one had to represent in the logo the three elements of the project: the multiple intelligences, the European Union and the five senses. After all groups had made the logo, they chose the best to compete against the logos of the other schools. At the end the Portuguese logo won the international competition and now the Portuguese logo is the logo of

n order to choose the cookie to represent our school we selected three traditional ingredients (mint, honey and rye flour) and each group had to create an original recipe using them. In the end we had twelve different cookies. We gathered together to taste them all and we elected the best one. At the same time we also selected the packaging. The same groups created a model of the packaging and presented it to the group. We elected one and we made some changes to improve it, for example we decided that the cookie packaging should have a pentagonal shape symbolizing the name of the project F.I.V.E.; furthermore, it should also show the nutritional value that the cookies had.

What is school for me? For me the school is the place where I make myself as person, in two senses: 1.- Center of education 2.- Social center
As this the school covers all the ages, from the nursery to the highest studies - near university -. Of the last ones, we have in school varied high, technological, socia high schoolsl… The school also offers two models of languages A, Spanish English, and B, with Spanish - Basque. In school we can also find several libraries, computer rooms, a workshop and a laboratory that make it possible for the teachers to add different videos or other materials to make lessons easier and more interesting. We can also take part in one of the exchanges that are offered, for example this one we are doing. And there are also trips to many places where we receive explanations and we learn many useful things All this work has been recognized in not only in the Basque Country, with the golden Q and many others awards, but in Europe, with the EFQM. 9
School works with many values, with different workshops or activities and subjects as Ethics, in which the pupils learn how we have to consider different points of view… As a Christian school, there is also Religion as subject and work with it, making us, the pupils, learn the Christian values and offering the students the option to take part in different activities of this religion. It also helps different humanitarian projects, making pupils take an active part on them. Every year, during Christmas, the students bring food that is sent to the people who are not able to buy it, in a project called Operation Kilo. We also help Cáritas and other organizations in Africa and South America, sending money that is collected by the students Domund- and receive the visit of different missionaries of such

continents, who help us to learn more about these places and the problems their populations have. This is the school for me and I am glad to study in a school that is so committed with the society’s problems and that offers such varied education.
LOGO Our teacher told us that we should draw and paint a logo for the Comenius Five. This project is about our senses, so the logo we had to paint should have a relation with that. We did the painting alone and it had to be original and colorful, so it was difficult to draw because we had to use our originality. When we finished, the teacher chose the best one to publish it in the Comenius website. There were a lot of different logos, some of them reflected all the work they have done,
other ones were funny, but the one, which the teacher chose to publish, was the most original and best done. Some days later, we went to the computers room and there, we could see the logos from all the different countries. All of them were beautiful, but we could only vote the one which was the best done according to our viewpoint. All of the countries which participate in this project chose the logo they liked most, and the one which obtained more votes was the Portuguese one. So that was the painting which won. 10

QUESTIONNAIRE ccording to the responses to the questionnaire obtained in Spain almost all the students coincided answering some questions: They like know some flavours they didn't like when they were younger and they think there is a strong connection between the sense of taste and other senses. A high percentage of the students have breakfast every morning and they eat fast food occasionally. Also most of them agree that there are markets and exhibitions in Spain where traditional products can be bought, tasted or consumed and they think the European Union

associated to certain celebrations or festivals in Spain. A sixty percent of the students agreed answering they like quite a lot trying different dishes from other parts of the world and they absolutely think people's health is associated with the type of food they eat. They denied traditional food is disappearing in Spain, however, their answer to the question about if there are any institutions or schools where you can learn about the traditional way of cooking in their region was “yes”.
should promote and support the traditional food and products of each region.
Around sixty-six percent of the students think that they can hardly identify one dish with its original country and that they just prepare traditional dishes at home on special celebrations and occasions. They also agree that schools should orientate students on a healthy and balanced diet and only sometimes they read the information provided on the food packets.
However, there were different opinions about other topics: Just a half of the students have memory of a lot of flavours from their childhood and they think there are only some certain food and products 11

PACKAGING
O
ne of the activities of our FIVE Comenius Project has been packaging. We enjoyed making some packages to pack our FIVE cookies. In the Packaging Workshop we learnt how to make different types of packages. One of them was to make a small bag with an envelope to put in it our cookies. T h e second activity was to make a bigger box with cardboa rd to put inside t h e cookies. We used the colors orange and brown, because there are usually used as a reference for sweet things. Then, everyone could decorate his or her box with stickers and some other accessories. The final result was incredible because all of us had used the same materials but the boxes were very different. Some of the packages were formal but there were very funny boxes too. We enjoyed a lot using our creativity to
make our FIVE packages for our FIVE cookies.

BERLAGE LYCEUM - AMSTERDAM
T
he Berlage Lyceum is a secondary school in Amsterdam, offering education for children aged between 12 and 18. We are an urban school situated very close to the centre of Amsterdam. The building itself was constructed around 1917 in the Amsterdam School style of architecture. It is a listed building because it is a fine example of this style. The most representative architect of the Amsterdam School was Hendrik Petrus Berlage. Although he was not the architect of our school building (that was Westermann), our school has been named after him since 1967. We currently have 1200 pupils divided between the two buildings. We offer three types of education. In the B building we offer vwo and havo levels and the A building houses the mavo students. The different diplomas (mavo/havo/vwo) lead to a variety of further and higher educational possibilities. Our school is completely bilingual - English/Dutch. For the first three years, our havo and vwo pupils receive approximately half of their subjects taught in English using English language materials. In addition they receive five lessons of English per week. In their senior years last two or three years they continue to receive five hours of English whilst they work towards sitting their IB certificate in English in the last year. The other subjects revert to Dutch because they need to sit their Diploma 13
exams in Dutch. Our mavo students practice their English skills during their music, P.E. and drama lessons. Furthermore, they have three project-weeks where English is the leading language. Our international atmosphere is also reflected in our foreign language teaching. These are taught as much as possible in the foreign language. We have a large number of native speakers teaching in these departments. A case in point, is our Spanish department in which all the teachers are native Spanish speakers. Spanish is an optional subject and is currently the most popular foreign language in the school. English is compulsory for all pupils. We are part of this Comenius project but we will also actively participate in the TILA project (Telecollaboration for Intercultural Language Acquisition). Last but not least: we are a Mac-school. That means we work a lot with Apple computers and that we are a member of the Dutch Mac school-network. We have I-pad classes. Ipads inspire creativity and hands-on learning with features that are not found in any other educational tool, on a device that students really want to use. Students engage with content in interactive ways, find information in an instant, and access an entire library wherever they go. I-Pad takes learning to a whole new level and the Berlage Lyceum enhances that.

RESEARCH RECIPES Apple pie: Apple pie is a fruit pie in which the principal filling ingredient is apples. You can add raisins or currants. It can be served hot but also cold. The filling is firm and gentle and the pastry is slightly crunchy. The bottom and side are made of pastry and the filling consists of small slices of apple, currants and raisins. The top side is formed by a grid of strips of dough. The filling is visible through the grid. Apple pie has a long tradition in the Dutch kitchen. In the first printed Dutch cookbook from 1514 there was already a recipe for Apple pie. Coffee with a slice of Apple pie has become part of Dutch culture and is available at almost every restaurant.

WELCOME TO IEVA SIMONAITYTE GYMNASIUM!
O
ur gymnasium is located in the centre of the small town Priekule 20 km south of Klaipeda, the only seaport of Lithuania. The history of our school reaches more than 70 years. Our school is named after the famous Lithuanian writer Ieva SimonaitytÄ—, who spent a part of her life in our town at the end of the 20th century. The school museum presents the facts of her life. The overall capacity of the gymnasium is 576 pupils. It is a special kind of gymnasium because we have students aged 6-18. Currently our team of teachers involves 68 qualified employees. The school aims to foster, in cooperation with parents, a caring school community in which it strives to develop each dimension of the pupil: the spiritual, moral, aesthetic, intellectual, 17
physical and emotional. We take part in different local and national projects, contests, competitions. In 2010 our school team won the national Legal knowledge competition for pupils and visited the European Parliament. This year our school team won the National Euroscola contest. The award is a possibility to become a Member of the European Parliament for one day at the Parliament's premises in Strasbourg. Our students are good at sports, music and dancing. Also they are involved in some innovative programmes in case to improve their communication skills and to gain their life skills too. The project F.I.V.E. is the first international project for our students and teachers and we hope to reach all our aims successfully.

CREATING THE LOGO
Creating the n a m e o f something new is always a rough task. You can't think of one simple phrase or word that woud describe your creation best. You spend hours, days, sometimes weeks thinking of that one simple name that would fit best, and sometimes it might seem so stressing that you might just want stop doing everything. This is something similar to what some of us have gone through when the task to create a logo for our project was announced. Of course, it was much easier for us - we already had hints: the name of the project F.I.V.E., the theme of it 5 human senses, 10 countries participating. But it was a harder task than looked at first. Even though, it was fun and creative thing to do. Our school has created 6 logos overall. All of them were different and had different meanings some funny and interesting, others serious and very original, with a deep meaning. Also, some of us had created drawings rather than logos, that could be used later. Our students took this task seriously and interpretated the topic in their own ways: „I wanted to create a logo where all my thoughts could fit in. The main question was how am I supposed to do it? It was very difficult to concentrate on one exact thing, because I know so much about all of these five different senses. Finally I came up with a thought that
was actually all I wanted to say: our COMENIUS project “F.I.V.E.” helps us to get away from our ordinary life, it is a chance to run away from monotony.“ - Roberta. We finally decided that a logo should be a short, but expressive drawing/picture, that would show the main idea of the project. That's why we chose a few of little logos. The main point of them was to express how we understand this project, what it can give to us.Our main logo, which was chosen as the best one and was publicated in the website, described all we wanted to say. The letters are going from left to right and are rising, because through this project we have an opportunity to go „up“ make new friends, visit their home countries, try to get to know their cultures and in that way - to educate ourselves socially and academically. We wanted to say that while we all are so different, we are the same too we share same senses, we're living in the same world, and only by making closer bounds with people from different countries we will be able to make a difference in our future life, which only is going to work right if everyone will communicate to each other. That's why the letters were filled in with the map of Europe. Flags of countries are used to describe each participant. Once the voting started we noticed that our logo is not getting too much of attention . Later tings got even sadder overall we got 1% of all votes. We now understand that our logo might had been too simplistic, and most importantly it 18
Priekule ieva Simonaityte Gymnasium - Lithuania
didn't say anything about five human senses what is the main idea of this project. Oh well... We like Portugal's logo a lot though! In conclusion we'd like to notice that all this logo creation process was a lot of fun. We got an opportunity to share our creativity with everyone, work with our friends and compare our work with others'. Even though this time we were not very good this time, we stay optimistic not all geniuses are noticed at the beginning! Other logos that our students have created:

THE QUESTIONNAIRE In the beginning of October F.I.V.E crew from 9 countries started the questionnaire about food, which was taken by 50 people from each school - parents, students and teachers. The results of the survey for our Lithuanian group seem to be quite interesting and most of the time unexpected. Let's take a look at them. Surprisingly only one half of the people who participated in the survey remember the certain tastes from their childhood, and what is even more interesting (and quite weird) - even 84% people from Lithuania didn't like the food they were eating in their childhood, but now they eat and (hopefully!) like it.
Priekule ieva Simonaityte Gymnasium - Lithuania
Another really interesting thing that is shown in survey results - Lithuanians apparently aren't big fans of food from different countries! Results say that less than one half of the people try out foreign food and only 24% can tell where the certain foreign dishes are from. That, actually, is a very weird fact, considering the amount of restaurants of different cuisines in our country (and they all seem to be full all the time!) Talking about the health of our people, results are not exciting either - according to a survey, only 54% of respondents have breakfast regularly. 28% say that they have breakfast sometimes and 18% don't have breakfast at all. The results are unexpected, and knowing the fact that a good day should start with a good breakfast - we might know now why some of our students feel so sleepy every morning! One quite good fact considering the eating habits of Lithuanians comes from the survey according to it Lithuanians almost don't eat fast food that much - 8% of people eat fast food 5 times a week, others - once a month or less. The survey shows that people know that their health is strongly connected with their food ration. Most of our students and their families cook at home. Food that we eat everyday is simple, sometimes not truly traditional (for example we all like pasta and noodles, and cook it at home very often), but when it comes to holidays (Christmas, Easter, etc.) - 76% of us make and eat traditional dishes, which is a good thing traditional food doesn't seem to disappear from our region. According to that we think that European Union should promote and support
the traditional food and products from each region. We think that in that way traditional food would get more attention and old traditions wouldn't “die”. In conclusion we would like to notice that we were quite surprised by the results of our survey. Some of the facts of our school seem to differ from the whole country's stereotypes. Well, in order to fix that, we are sure that during this project we are going to learn more about different cultures and their food, various habits, and, of course - we'll share our properties with all the others!
Traditional Cuisine of Lithuania “Who eats well, works well“ this saying describes our traditional food. Traditional Lithuanian food is filled with simple, but tasty dishes. Wild berries, fruits, mushrooms, herbs and vegetables take an important part of the diet across the four seasons. Lithuanian dishes often contain potatoes, rye, beet roots, dairy and meat. There is a big choice of heavy cold snack table, inherent in all the Baltic countries kitchens. It serves a variety of cheese, curd products, smoked meat and fish products, jelly. We are known for our soups, pancakes, potato dishes and desserts. 20

Here are some of our traditional dishes: Skilandis Minced meat is stuffed into pig stomach with garlic. It is then cold-smoked and matured. Many smoked meat products are popular in Lithuania.
Šaltibarščiai / Barščiai Borscht (Cold / Warm Beetroot Soup) Cold borscht for summer contains shredded beets, cucumber, dill, and green onions with cold soured milk or kefir. Sides are most often potatoes either hot boiled or fried, or a sliced hard-boiled egg.
Juoda Duona Black Rye Bread Bread has played a role in rituals and c e r e m o n i e s t h r o u g h o u t Lithuanian culture. The dark rye bread is fragrant and heavy. It can be served with any meal of the day, though it is not seen as often these days.

The questionnaire: some comments 70% of people asked claim they have few memories connected with a particular flavour from her/his childhood and 82% associate tastes which they do not like in the childhood. In our school there are a lot of educational programmes devoted to the healthy lifestyle and the students are aware of the issues. This is visible in the questionnaire because over 74% declare that he/she eats breakfast every day, 90% occasionally goes to fast food restaurants and 76% thinks that people's health s associated with the type of food he/she eats the quality of food. More than a half of people asked (58%) prepare traditional dishes at home. 62% associate dishes to certain celebrations and festivals and 42% do not agree with the statement that traditional cuisine is disappearing nowadays. Simultaneously 86% thinks that the European Union should promote and support traditional and local cuisine. The people asked are open to trying new dishes from other countries, parts of the world (72%) and they can easily identify the dish with its original country (74%).

8 Geniko Lykeio Volos - Greece
GREECE Volos is a coastal port city in Thessaly situated midway on the Greek mainland. It is the capital of the Magnesia regional unit. History Modern Volos is built on the area of the ancient cities of Demetrias, Pagasae and Iolcos. Iolcos was the homeland of mythological hero Jason, who boarded the ship Argo accompanied by the Argonauts and sailed in quest of the Golden Fleece to Colchis. To the west of Volos lie the Neolithic settlements of Dimini, with an acropolis, walls, and two beehive tombs dating to between 4000-1200 BC, and Sesklo, with the remains of the oldest acropolis in Greece (6000 BC) and in Europe, one of the most characteristic examples of Neolithic civilisation.

Comparative analysis of the results of the questionnaire on TASTE and final comment
T
he first and the second questions are related with our childhood- the food and flavours we didn't use to like, but that we like now. The first question is about our memory related with flavours. Most people from most of the countries said that they just remembered a few of the flavours; then, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania answered “a lot”. From these answers we could perceive that the majority of the inquired people, in most of the countries, just remembers a few of the flavours of their childhood. The second question is about something that we didn't like as children and that we like now. Most people in every country replied affirmatively. From these answers we could conclude that with the time people start appreciating some food that they didn't use to like. The third and the fourth questions are related to the different dishes from other parts of the world and the dishes that are original from our own country. The third question was about trying different dishes from other parts of the world. In countries such as Bulgaria and Turkey most people answered that they don't appreciate trying different dishes from other countries very much. However, in the rest of the countries, most people answered that they enjoy trying it. From these answers we understood that most people, and probably mostly the young people, like to try new dishes because they are trying something from different cultures. The fourth question is about the ability that 37
people have to recognize the traditional dishes. In most countries the answer “with difficulty” was the most popular one, in countries like Greece, Spain, Lithuania, Turkey and Portugal. With these answers we could conclude that most of the people, even with difficulty, can recognize the traditional dishes. The fifth question refers to the connection between the five senses and it asks if the sense of taste is related to the other senses. Most of the people in all countries answered affirmatively, which means that most of the people have already experienced and acknowledge the connection between the senses. The sixth question is related to how often people take breakfast and, as most of the people in every country answered that they take breakfast every morning, we can assume that they know how important breakfast is, since it is the first meal of the day. The seventh and the eighth questions are related to eating habits. They are about how people think that the type of food they eat affects their health and how often they eat fast food. A great number of people recognize that the food they eat affects their health and they just eat fast food occasionally. Only Bulgarian people admitted that they eat fast food more than five times a week.
In question number 9 we asked if people usually read the information provided on the food packaging, which should always be done because we should always know what we eat. The results showed us that most of them sometimes read it, which is better than nothing. Question number 10 wanted to find out if the students thought that schools should guide students on a healthy and balanced diet. On this subject every country had as the main answer “it is an important task”, only Bulgarian people think that it is not a priority. The 11th question tried to discover how often students prepared traditional dishes at home. In this question there was a big consensus and every country answered that they prepare these traditional dishes on special occasions. The next question, the 12th one, was intended to find out if there are institutions and schools where they can learn about the traditional way of cooking. Although most countries said that they don't know, in Bulgaria, Spain and Romania most people answered that these institutions and schools
exist. In the next question, number 13, every country answered “yes”, saying that there are markets or exhibitions where they can find traditional products that can be bought, tasted or consumed. In question 14, about some food and products related to festivals and celebrations, in every country most people recognized that they exist, but some countries think they have more food related with special days than others. This last question is related to the 15th question, where the main answer was “No”, that means the traditional food is not vanishing from the regions, with the exception of Bulgarian people who said that the traditional food is disappearing and the Dutch who answered that they don't know. This means that traditional recipes and some types of food are still being used and cooked by the population, especially on typical celebrations and festivals. Question 16 asked if we thought that the European Union should promote and support the traditional food and products from each region. Most people in every country answered affirmatively. The majority of the people also think that the European Union should support it.

General comment/conclusion
A
t first, we realized with these questionnaires that the majority of the people have memories of some flavours from their childhood, but, at the same time, they like to try new dishes, from other cultures. We also perceived that most people recognized a strong relation between the sense of taste and other senses. All of them have breakfast in the morning and they occasionally eat fast food. Furthermore, the inquired people believe that what they eat affects their health, in a good and bad way. Although they recognize it, most of them don't always read the information provided on the food packaging. They also believe that schools should guide students on a healthy and balanced diet but they don't know if there are institutions or schools where people can learn about the traditional food. In all countries, most people prepare traditional dishes at home on special occasions, a habit they believe is not disappearing. All of them conclude by saying that the European Union should promote and support the traditional food and products from each region. After analysing these results, we come to the conclusion that the people who answered this questionnaire give a great importance to the sense of taste and flavours are a great and unforgettable 39
memory to most of them. They also emphasise the value of the traditional food, which the European Union should support, and which they still prepare at home. The Portuguese Comenius team
